TRS or BJP?: L Ramana in two minds!!

1

T TDP president L Ramana is in a dilemma. His dilemma is whether to join the TRS or BJP. Though he has an open offer from the ruling TRS ahead of the Huzurabad byelections, he is also said to be in touch with the BJP biggies in Telangana. He is said to be weighing all options before taking a plunge.

Those close to him say that the TRS has offered him an MLC seat and a minister’s post. But, Ramana knows that he would be a minister for just two years. After that, he is not sure of getting a ministry. Also, sources close to him say that he is apprehensive of how KCR would treat him after he joins the party. As someone who knows KCR very well, he is unsure of KCR’s treatment.

On the other hand, Ramana is said to be looking for settling his son in politics. He feels that the BJP could offer him some kind of guarantee. The party could make his son the MLA candidate and if he manages to win, he would have a fruitful political career. Sources say that the BJP has assured to give ticket to his son. Several top BJP leaders, who spoke to him, have reportedly given him this assurance. Hence Ramana is said to be vacillating. He is consulting his friends, associates and supporters about his future political moves.

Ramana has been steadfastly with the TDP even while most of his colleagues and co-travellers have joined other parties such as the Congress, TRS and the BJP. Though the party’s support base was continuously shrinking since 2014, he remained loyal to the TDP. If and when he leaves the TDP, the party would become history in Telangana.

Huzurabad bypolls: Dubbak formula vs Nagarjunasagar formula

1

The Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party has begun its preparations for the Huzurabad byelections. The party feels that though Etela Rajender is yet to join the party, the BJP should start the ground work immediately. The BJP feels that it has to implement the Dubbak strategy and not Nagarjunasagar strategy.

In Dubbak, the party began the spade work in the constituency soon after the death of sitting MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy. Raghunandan Rao began meeting people and started wooing them. Even before the election notification was issued, he began his leg work and had covered the whole constituency. In Nagarjunasagar, the party was undecided about the candidate and waited for the TRS and the Congress to announce their candidate. A lot of time was lost in waiting for Jana Reddy or his son Raghuveer to join the party.

Also in Dubbak, BJP leaders adopted a carpet-bombing strategy and one popular leader after another toured the constituency and addressed public meetings. In Nagarjunasagar, fewer leaders campaigned and the fight was half-hearted. Though there was some initial dissidence in Dubbak, the party leadership had put its weight behind Raghunandan Rao. In case of Nagarjunasagar, dissidence and non-cooperation were too conspicuous to be ignored.

The BJP wants to follow the Dubbak model for Huzurabad. Party affairs incharge Tarun Chugh has held a meeting with key party leaders on Thursday and directed them to regularly visit Huzurabad one after another and hold meetings regularly. He also told them to organise party workers meetings on a regular basis. Key leaders were told to undertake an outreach programme in Huzurabad constituency.

The party feels that Dubbak formula will help defeat the ruling TRS. The party feels that the contest would be very keen and that the TRS will marshal all its resources to win Huzurabad. The BJP too should strain its every nerve to wrest Huzurabad, Chugh told the party leaders.

How BJP’s ‘secret operation’ sent media, Congress into a tizzy?

1

The ruling BjP at the Centre has managed to maintain complete secrecy and achieve complete surprise in the Jitin Prasada’s joining of the BJP. That Jitin Prasada was going to join the BJP was made public only after he left his home to meet Minister Piyush Goel.

Operation Jitin Prasada caught the Congress completely by surprise and it had no time to talk to him. The Congress did not have an inkling that Jitin was leaving the party. The BJP talked to him several months ago, but kept in under wraps. No statement was made and there was not even an off-the-cuff remark anywhere.

Even on Wednesday, BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni tweeted about a ‘big personality’ joining the BJP at around 10 am. Since he did not reveal the name, everyone began making guestimates. Many thought it could be Sachin Pilot and started making calls to him. Some felt that since Anil Baluni was from Uttarakhand, the Congressman could be from that state. It was only when Jitin Prasada reached Piyush Goel that it became clear that it was Jitin Prasada. Even before the media could reach Goel’s residence, both Goel and Prasad left for Amit Shah’s residence. Both president Nadda and Amit Shah were not present at the joining. This was done to mislead those who keep a tab on Nadda and Shah.

But why so much secrecy? Last time in 2019, Jitin Prasada wanted to join the BJP. The Congress got wind of it fairly in advance and sent Jyotiraditya Scindia to convince him to stay back in the party. The BJP was left high and dry. So, this time the BJP wanted to outsmart the Congress and the media, which usually tips off Congress about the internal happenings in BJP.

Jitin Prasada is a prize catch as he is a Brahmin and Brahmins are politically very important in UP. With UP going to polls early next year, Jitin Prasada could be a very useful addition.

BJP to make Sharmila next AP CM, not Bharati: RK

0

The political developments in Andhra Pradesh are spiraling out of control. The court cases are threatening to destabilize the ruling YSRCP one by one. Not a day is passing without some court or the other making serious comments against the decisions of the Jaganmohan Reddy regime. The immediate threat is from the bail cancellation case in the CBI court. The use of ‘third degree’ allegedly on the rebel MP is creating controversies in Delhi.

The situation has come to such a sorry pass that the Modi-Shah are no longer likely to take a lenient view of the AP political scene. Considering the serious nature of the cases, the AP CM may even lose his bail in the CBI court. The BJP Delhi leaders are now discussing this question and how to formulate a super strategy to get a grip on the AP politics.

ABN Radha Krishna says that the Modi-Shah are not going to let Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy’s wife Bharati to become the next Chief Minister of AP. If that happens, Mr. Jagan Reddy would continue to retain firm grip over the AP administration. The BJP’s strategy is to use the Tamil Nadu strategy in AP too. They have successfully removed the influence of Sasikala in the AIADMK politics.

Now, the Modi-Shah plan is to bring Sharmila as Jagan’s successor to AP in order to weaken the YSRCP from within. RK says the BJP will totally change its tactics once the CM bail cancellation becomes an inevitability.

“Caste war” brewing in Telangana BJP!

1

A ‘caste war’ is reportedly brewing internally in the Telangana unit of BJP.

After Bandi Sanjay took over as Telangana BJP president in March 2020, who is from Backward Classes (Munnuru Kapu), the caste war has reportedly started in the party.

Reddys, brahmins and other forward castes in the party are upset at Bandi Sanjay giving prominence only to BCs and ignoring other castes.

Bandji Sanjay is reportedly giving more prominence to Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Aravind, who also hails from BC category.

Reddys, brahmins etc used to call the shots in Telangana BJP earlier but after Sanjay took over they feel sidelined.

Now, the possible entry of sacked health minister Etela Rajender from TRS to BJP has reportedly fuelled caste war further.

This is because Etela from Mudiraj caste also hails from BC category. Other castes fear that the entry of Etela will further increase the dominance of BCs in Telangana BJP and they are allegedly trying to block the entry of Etela by giving wrong feedback to party high command against Etela.

Etela meets Nadda but maintains suspense over joining BJP!

1

Sacked health minister Etela Rajender on Monday met BJP national president JP Nadda in Delhi amid speculations that he will quit TRS and join BJP anytime soon.

Etela was accompanied by BJP Telangana president Bandi Sanjay, party’s national incharge for Telangana affairs Tarun Chugh, former MP Vivek Venkataswamy etc.

Etela reportedly discussed about his role in BJP if he quits TRS and joins BJP.

However, Etela and BJP leaders maintained complete secrecy over what BJP national leadership offered to Etela if he joins BJP.

Etela is expected to return to Hyderabad and head to his Huzurabad constituency on Tuesday to meet his supporters before announcing the date for quitting his MLA post and join BJP.

Etela wants to tour his constituency and meet his supporters for a week before quitting TRS as well as his MLA post.

Rajya Sabha seat to Eatala, MLA ticket to wife: Speculation in BJP!

Ever since ousted health minister Eatala Rajender met BJP leaders ‘secretly’ at a farmhouse on Monday, it stirred up speculation in political circles as well as in BJP.

Though media reports claimed that the meeting was held under the leadership of union minister G Kishan Reddy at BJP leader Vivek Venkataswamy’s farmhouse on Hyderabad city outskirts, Kishan Reddy on Tuesday clarified that he had not met Eatala but spoke to him only over phone.

Eatala reportedly met BJP leaders Vivek, Jithender Reddy, DK Aruna at the farmhouse.

This meeting fuelled speculations that BJP national leadership has offered Rajya Sabha seat to Eatala if he joins BJP.

The BJP also reportedly promised to give party ticket to Eatala’s wife Jamuna to contest Huzurabad Assembly bypoll after Eatala resigns.

It remains to be seen whether these speculations will prove correct or not in the end.

There is complete silence from the Eatala’s camp on this issue for now.

Make YS Bharathi as AP CM: BJP strange demand!

1

The BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit has come out with a strange demand on Sunday.

AP BJP leader and former MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju demanded that YS Bharathi, the wife of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy should be made the CM of Andhra Pradesh immediately to bring some ‘change’ in administration.

Raju demanded YS Jagan to quit his CM post and make his wife Bharathi as CM.

Raju said Jagan failed on all fronts as CM and due to Jagan’s inefficiency, people in every household in AP were facing several problems.

Raju said Jagan completely mishandled Covid in AP due to which patients are struggling to get treatment, beds, ventilators, ICU beds in hospitals and also there is severe shortage of vaccines.

As Jagan failed to deliver, it’s better he quit from CM post and handover reins to his wife Bharathi to bring some reforms and change in administration.

He hoped that Bharathi might bring some change in administration and offer good governance to people.

With series of setbacks, BJP loses momentum in Telangana

0

The series of electoral reverses in Telangana over last two months have dealt a huge blow to Bhrataiya Janata Party’s ambitious ‘Mission 2023′ which it had set out for itself after the victory in Dubbak Assembly by-election and impressive performance in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls late last year.

Despite wresting Dubbak seat from ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in November and subsequent huge gains in GHMC, the saffron party failed to keep the momentum going.

with the TRS bouncing back after poor performance in the two elections, BJP suffered back-to-back defeats in the elections to two graduates’ constituencies of Legislative Council, by-polls to Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat and more recently in the polls held for seven Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The BJP, which was projecting itself as the real alternative to TRS, is suddenly finding itself on a sticky ground with questions being raised on its capability to provide a viable alternative to the TRS.

In Legislative Council elections in March, it lost the only seat it was holding in the upper house of the state legislature to TRS. The saffron party’s Ramchander Rao failed to retain Mahbubnagar-Rangareddy-Hyderabad, losing to TRS candidate Vani Devi, daughter of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao.

BJP’s performance was more disastrous in the other constituency. Its candidate Permender Reddy finished poor fourth in Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam.

The stakes were high for both the TRS and the BJP as the two MLC constituencies were spread over 70 Assembly segments or more than half of the total Assembly seats.

The setback hit the BJP’s morale ahead of by-election to Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat. The ruling party comfortably retained the seat with its candidate Nomula Bhagat trouncing his nearest rival and senior Congress leader K. Jana Reddy.

Bhagat polled 89,804 votes while Congress secured 70,932 votes. BJP’s P. Ravi Kumar got only 7,676 votes and lost its deposit.

The humiliating defeat in the bypoll slammed brakes on BJP’s forward march.

The saffron party’s worries did not end with Nagarjuna Sagar verdict. A day after Assembly by-election results, State Election Commission declared the verdict of the polls held to seven Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on April 30.

The TRS swept the polls to bag both Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation and Khammam Municipal Corporation and all five municipalities. TRS won 181 out of 248 wards in all seven ULBs. While Congress secured 29 wards, BJP finished third with 15 wards.

According to political analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy, after the victory in Dubbak by-polls, BJP presumed people of Telangana were fast switching over to the saffron party. “They imagined that KCR will now find it difficult to win back the trust of people in the State. This hope of their further strengthened when BJP performed better than expected in the GHMC elections, where the voter was divided on religious grounds. However, the subsequent results in MLC elections, Nagarjuna Sagar by-polls, and elections to the seven Urban Local Bodies, suggest that BJP underestimated KCR/TRS. The Pink brigade not just bounced back in these recent elections, but also consolidated its position as the numero uno party in Telangana,” he said.

He believes that like in any other State or in any other times, there is discontentment among the people of Telangana over the mismatch between expectations and governance but this gap is probably not wide enough to assume KCR-era would end sometime soon.

“Additionally, BJP does not have a credible counter-argument to take on KCR. Depending on religious propaganda alone might not help the saffron party win in a State like Telangana,” he said.

The analyst is also of the view emerging political scenario in India’s youngest State is not in favour of BJP. “While, Modi is being questioned for poor performance to arrest Covid-19 pandemic; deep-rooted Congress is not a pushover in Telangana. And now, the possibility of Etela Rajendra starting a new political outfit will only divide anti-KCR vote further, helping TRS prospects in 2023 elections to the State Assembly.”

BJP has had mixed fortunes in Telangana since it became a separate state in 2014. The party had bagged five seats in Telangana in 2014 polls held before bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

Despite all the efforts by BJP leadership to strengthen the party in Telangana, it bagged just one seat in 119-member Assembly in 2018 polls.

However, 2019 Lok Sabha polls came as a dramatic turn in the party’s fortunes in the state. The party put up its best ever performance to win four out of 17 Lok Sabha seats. It not only retained one seat but wrested three seats from TRS. In Nizamabad, BJP’s D. Arvind defeated K. Kavitha, daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

This performance raised new hopes among BJP of consolidating itself in the state. The party leadership started looking at Telangana as its second gateway in the south after Karnataka.

The saffron party started working for ‘Mission 2023’ to come to power in the state in the next elections.

Though TRS swept rural and urban local body polls held after Lok Sabha elections, the victory in Dubbak by-election gave a boost to the BJP. The party leadership suddenly started focusing on the state.

In a move to consolidate itself and build on the success in Dubak, BJP roped in its top leaders including union home minister Amit Shah and party national president J.P. Nadda for its campaign in GHMC polls.

The high-pitched campaign paid rich dividends as the party bagged 48 seats in 150-member GHMC. It was a huge jump in its strength from just four seats it won in 2016.

Though TRS retained power in GHMC, BJP succeeded in bringing down the ruling party’s tally from 99 to 56.

However, the saffron party could not keep the momentum going.

Jana Sena upset with BJP on Tirupati fake voters

2

Growing doubts are being expressed from all sides going by the way the BJP top leaders at the State and the Central levels handled the Tirupati by-election. The Jana Sainiks are especially angry that the BJP has forcibly taken away the ticket but has eventually failed to give a tough fight. What is more disturbing is that the BJP Delhi leaders themselves have failed to check the influence of large scale ‘bogus voters’ in the bypoll.

Leaders like GVL Narasimha Rao made eloquent speeches before the bypoll that they would prevent the YCP from using the fake voters. All other Opposition parties, including the Jana Sena, thought that the BJP would use the Central Election Commission to put the YCP leaders in their place. At the time of the 2019 election, the Modi regime used the CEC very conveniently to spoil the Chandrababu Naidu show.

However, nothing of that sort happened in the recent Tirupati bypoll. The BJP top leaders were nowhere to be seen after the polling day. BJP candidate K. Ratna Prabha made some complaints and also filed a petition in the High Court, which would be of no immediate help.

Overall, the Jana Sainiks are now feeling totally upset that the BJP has denied them a golden opportunity to damage the Jagan Reddy party.

BJP petition in High Court for repoll in Tirupati

0

The polling process in the Tirupati assembly segment held on April 17 became highly controversial. It became all the more damaging for the BJP. It is mainly because BJP nominee Ratna Prabha expected more votes in the Tirupati assembly segment. But, on the polling day, bus loads of outsiders arrived in the temple town and cast bogus votes in the very first hours of polling. Some outsiders were even caught with bogus voter identity cards.

Now, the BJP claims that over 40,000 bogus voters have cast their votes in the Tirupati assembly segment alone. The bogus votes problem is also there in the remaining six assembly segments but on a lower scale. Taking a very serious view, the BJP has decided to petition the High Court of Andhra Pradesh seeking repolling in the Tirupati assembly segment.

It may be recalled that a very low voting percentage of just 50.58 was recorded in the Tirupati assembly segment while the remaining six segments reported above 60 percent with some of them even higher than 70 percent. Besides, the higher bogus voting is giving sleepless nights to the BJP.

Going by this, it is clear that the BJP may most likely lose deposit once again in the Tirupati MP seat. That would be very embarrassing for a national party that has hopes of winning the 2024 elections in AP

Will Jana Sena voters remain loyal to BJP in Tirupati?

It is now only two days for the polling day in the Tirupati parliamentary by-election. As CM Jagan Reddy said, the country’s whole attention is on this bypoll. The April 17 polling has drawn nearer amid rising confrontation between the YCP and the TDP. In the midst of this, the BJP has lost much of its edge with the Jana Sena Party nearly vanishing from the scene in the last and final leg of the campaign.

Though Pawan Kalyan campaigned for the BJP candidate, it was only in the initial days. Thereafter, a real gap developed with the Senani even skipping BJP National President JP Nadda’s election meeting. With this, doubts are being raised now whether the Jana Sainiks would vote for the BJP or not. The Pawan followers were already unhappy over the manner in which the BJP top leaders were not giving the importance that was due to their power star.

If a considerable chunk of Pawan fans and Kapus do not vote for the BJP, then which party will get their support? This has become the big question. The present bypoll has also become a sort of test for Pawan Kalyan and his party loyalty towards the BJP as a whole.

Political circles say that Jagan party is sure to get its expected high majority if the Jana Sainiks favour Dr. Gurumurthy. Else, it is going to be a tight rope walk.

BJP ultimate campaign to stop TDP in Tirupati

3

In the face of rising odds, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have started desperate measures in the Tirupati bypoll. They have begun a bitter campaign against the Telugu Desam Party. The BJP AP unit has started urging the voters not to vote for the TDP since it is a sinking party. The BJP’s argument is that the TDP has already lost its existence in Telangana and now it is going to lose its existence in Andhra Pradesh.

The BJP’s latest twist to its campaign obviously comes from the fact that it is failing to catch up in the campaign. From the beginning, the BJP AP leaders’ dream is to push the TDP to the third place by grabbing the second place in Tirupati. That is not happening at the ground level. On the other hand, the polarisation of the Hindu votes is also not happening in a big way. It became a huge dampener.

BJP AP leaders put their hopes on the Jagan regime to suppress the voice of Chandrababu Naidu and TDP leaders. However, a variety of factors including the anti-incumbency feeling are benefitting the TDP but not the BJP.

The BJP is asking the voters not to vote for a losing TDP. However, it is not able to convince the voters how it is going to win the Tirupati seat when it is not even able to make the temple attacks an election issue.

BJP voice lost in stone politics of Naidu-Jagan

The BJP national leaders thought of making a beginning in Andhra Pradesh by securing significant gains in the Tirupati by-election. However, they are facing one hurdle after another ever since their campaign began. The most severe blow came from Pawan Kalyan who did not share dais with BJP National President JP Nadda at his Tirupati public meeting. More unfortunately for the BJP, the stone pelting incident took place in the Chandrababu road show the same day.

In fact, quite a good number of BJP leaders attended the Nadda public meeting for which they made elaborate arrangements. BJP leaders Sunil Deodhar, Somu Veerraju, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and scores of others took active part. They launched unsparing criticism. But all that got washed out after the whole media attention shifted to the stone pelting on Naidu meeting.

Even the ruling YCP leaders and the police have turned their attention to the TDP allegations. Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy totally ignored the BJP show and solely attacked Chandrababu saying the TDP chief was resorting to fake allegations.

Doubtless to say, the BJP’s all out efforts to push its campaign suffered severe setbacks. The voice of Nadda and other leaders got totally lost out in the stone politics that followed. The BJP attempts to divide the Hindu voters were not going forward along the expected lines with State and local issues dominating the scene.

BJP manifesto gimmicks on depoliticising TTD

Some BJP senior leaders like Subramania Swamy have long been demanding the removal of the State Government control on the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). At the same time, they are not talking about similar steps in respect of all other temples in the country. The singular reason is the TTD is one of the largest earning temples in the entire world with lakhs of devotees making donations round the year and politicians clamouring for influence in its administration.

Now, the BJP has included the TTD autonomy issue in its latest manifesto in the Tirupati by-election. It has promised to bring the Seven Hills Temple out of the control of the AP Government. This would be done in order to protect the sanctity of the Devasthanam.

The BJP manifesto has also promised to bring the TTD under the one and only supervision of Dharmacharyas. Thereby, the divinity of the shrine would be protected in different ways. Other religious propaganda atop the Seven Hills Temple would be totally eradicated. The devotees’ many demands would be fulfilled without allowing political interference. These included the installation of the Sarabhaiah statue in Tirupati.

The BJP manifestos being released in times of elections in different states were raising eyebrows. Already, it promised Special Status to Puducherry even though the Modi regime has ruled out the same for AP in the past.

BJP questions eligiblity of YCP Tirupati nominee

1

Just a few days ahead of the April 17 polling, fresh questions are being raised on the eligibility of YCP nominee Dr. Gurumurthy to contest in the Tirupati by-election. The BJP has asserted that Dr. Gurumurthy is not a hindu and hence he is unqualified to contest in the SC reserved Tirupati parliamentary segment.

BJP AP incharge Sunil Deodhar has brought this issue to the force. He has demanded that the election officials take note of this and disqualify the candidature of the YCP nominee. These sudden and unexpected turn of events have put Dr. Gurumurthy into self defense.

In the absence of any alternative, Dr. Gurumurthy has begun providing evidence to show that he is a Hindu. Only the Hindu believers will be considered for the SC and ST status. All those converted to Christianity would not be allowed to enjoy reservations usually given to the SC, STs.

Now, Dr. Gurumurthy has released photos showing his pujas offered to the village deity before submitting his nominations for the Tirupati bypoll. He is blaming the BJP for using cheap gimmicks to get a few votes. Whatever, the BJP plan seemed to have served its purpose.

TRS, BJP fires on YS Sharmila

0

The ruling TRS and BJP in Telangana have lashed out at YS Sharmila for her outburst at Khammam on Friday.

Sharmila held a public meeting in Khammam to announce the launch of her political party in Telangana on July 8 on the occasion of her father YSR’s jayanthi

Sharmila tore into TRS, BJP and Congress while delivering her speech in Khammam.

She termed KCR as “Dora” and Telangana as “slave” and said Telangana is crushed under KCR’s feet like a slave (baanisa) is crushed under Dora’s feet.

Sharmila described BJP as a ‘communal party’ saying that the party has nothing to speak about except Hindu religion and raking up communal passions for political gains.

The TRS and BJP reacted sharply to Sharmila’s comments on Saturday.

TRS senior leader and chairman of Telangana Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy fired at Sharmila for her statement that she will bring “Rajanna Rajyam” in Telangana.

Gutha said Telangana people suffered a lot under Rajanna Rajyam as it is identified with land grabbings in and around Hyderabad, looting of Telangana water from Godavari and Krishna rivers, rowdyism, goondaism etc and Telangana people will never allow any party that has Andhra roots in Telangana.

Telangana people had already buried Andhra party TDP in Telangana and Sharmila’s party will also meet the same fate. He said few Andhra leaders like Sharmila are attempting to rule Telangana again and loot Telangana resources.

The BJP condemned Sharmila’s remarks saying that YSR family itself is communal as it promotes Christianity and Bible.

BJP leader NVSS Prabhakar questioned why Sharmila talked about YSR providing 4% reservations to Muslims on communal grounds when she was accusing BJP as communal.

BJP leaders slam TTD priest for likening Jagan to Lord Vishnu

2

Several Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Andhra Pradesh have castigated Tirumala Triupati Devasthanams (TTD) chief priest A.V. Ramana Deekshitulu for giving a divine allusion to Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy recently.

After being reinstated as the chief priest of the Tirumala temple following the state government’s decision to induct retired priests of Mirasi families, Deekshitulu allegedly equated the act to saving of Dharma by Lord Vishnu. He indirectly hailed the Chief Minister as one among the ‘Trimurthis’ keen to protect Dharma.

“It is an irresponsible and insensitive statement by (the) chief priest of Tirupati Balaji temple. It’s an insult to millions of devotees of Lord Vishnu,” said BJP state president Somu Veerraju.

He alleged that the state government has become ‘fully’ anti-Hindu and claimed that Reddy’s silence reaffirms this point.

BJP national secretary and Andhra Pradesh co-incharge Sunil Deodhar alleged that Deekshitulu removed the sanctity of the TTD’s chief priest post.

“Ramana Dikshitulu, by calling an on-bail CM an incarnation of Vishnu, you have insulted the God himself and crores of his devotees. With your boot-licking of an anti-Hindu family, you removed the sanctity of the pradhan archak’s post in TTD,” claimed Deodhar.

Likewise, BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member G.V.L. Narasimha Rao termed likening Reddy to Lord Vishnu as sacrilegious.

“Statements likening Reddy to Lord Vishnu by the chief priest of Tirupati Balaji temple is not just objectionable, but also sacrilegious. It seems a desperate YSRCP government under which several Hindu temples and idols have been attacked is orchestrating such statements by coercing the priests,” Rao claimed.

BJP-YCP bid to split Hindu votes in Tirupati bypoll

2

The BJP has adopted a two-pronged strategy to get maximum votes in the Tirupati by election. Its first aim is to use the Pawan Kalyan following to polarise the Kapu and the youth vote banks. The second objective is to split the Hindu votes to the maximum possible extent. The present bypoll is certainly going to be a big test to the BJP’s future chances and dreams for a stronger foothold in AP.

As such, BJP Political Affairs Committee Chairman IYR Krishna Rao has taken it upon himself the task of attacking CM Jagan Reddy along religious lines. He has launched a direct attack in current election campaign, saying that Mr. Jagan Reddy is giving freedom and space only for the other religion in the State. This Chief Minister is not allowing the Hindu organisations to grow or expand in any manner.

In the face of such outright attacks, the YCP is using its power to make the TTD priests voice their support for their party candidate. TTD Chief Priest Ramana Deekshitulu has been indirectly campaigning for the YSRCP nominee. He has even compared the CM to Lord Vishnu who gets reborn to re-establish dharma in the world.

The YCP leaders are confident that they will win even without a good chunk of the Hindu votes. But if the Hindu voters also supported in a big way because of the welfare benefits, then its candidate would be sure to get historic majority.

‘Boycott politics’ dominate Tirupati poll campaign

The rival parties began to challenge each other to boycott the Tirupati byelection if they have no faith in the system. It all started with Chandrababu Naidu’s boycott call on the parishad elections. The moment he announced this, the YCP began saying that the TDP is a sinking ship and it has no political relevance.

The YCP leaders are now asking why Mr. Naidu is not boycotting the Tirupati bypoll as well. It is better for the TDP chief to step aside since his party is sure to meet with humiliating defeat just like in the 2019 polls, local body and municipal body polls this year. The BJP too joined chorus and suggested the TDP quit the election.

On their part, the TDP leaders mounted a stinging attack, saying that it was CM Jagan Reddy who has no moral right to contest any election for that matter. The Chief Minister insulted the voters and boycotted the Assembly for over 3 years. He remained on the roads in the name of the Padayatra. He should have been in jail if not granted bail in the illegal assets cases. Moreover, the TDP has no faith in State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney only and has confidence in the bypoll.

The TDP leaders are also questioning the relevance of the BJP candidate in the Tirupati fight. It was well known that the BJP got less than one percent vote share in 2019. The BJP has a hidden agenda rather than making a genuine effort to win the support of the people.
