Weekend Box-office: Poor show from New Films
After a disastrous last week, Tollywood had good hopes on September 23-25th weekend. Young actors Naga Shaurya, Sree Vishnu and Sri Simha Koduri tested their luck with Krishna Vrinda Vihari, Alluri and Dongallunnaru Jagratha. All the three films received a poor response from the audience and they opened on a low note. Alluri and Dongallunnaru Jagratha will end up as massive disasters and these films will struggle to recover the digital expenses. Krishna Vrinda Vihari witnessed an upward trend on Saturday and Sunday but these numbers are not enough to recover the investments.
Tollywood had one more disastrous weekend at the box-office. Hollywood film Avatar had a re-release and the film performed well across the multiplexes. Balakrishna’s yesteryear film Chennakesava Reddy performed extremely well in USA and the film did decent across the Telugu states with limited shows. The past releases Brahmastra and Oke Oka Jeevitham remained low over the September 23rd weekend. The audience are now waiting for the next weekend and all the new releases Krishna Vrinda Vihari, Alluri and Dongallunnaru Jagratha will struggle to stay decent on the weekdays.
Triangular fight at the Tollywood Box-office
After a dull weekend, all the new releases fell flat. Three films Krishna Vrinda Vihari, Alluri and Dongalunnaru Jagratha are hitting the screens this Friday. The makers of Krishna Vrinda Vihari and Alluri are promoting the film aggressively. The promotions are quite low for Dongalunnaru Jagratha. Krishna Vrinda Vihari has Naga Shaurya in the lead role and the film is a romantic entertainer. Alluri is an action-packed entertainer that has Sree Vishnu playing the role of a cop. Dongalunnaru Jagratha is a thriller and is a Korean remake that has Sri Simha in the lead role.
All these three films are carrying decent expectations and are of different genres. All these three films will have a decent release across the Telugu states. Naga Shaurya and Sree Vishnu are waiting for success and these films are crucial for the actors. Keeravani’s son too will have to make his impact with Dongalunnaru Jagratha.
September releases struggling for Buzz
Liger is the next Tollywood film for which the audience are eagerly waiting for. The film is releasing tomorrow and a successful August comes to an end with Liger for Tollywood. A heap of small and medium budget films are testing their luck in September and the release dates are announced. Unfortunately, none of the films are carrying decent buzz and they are in struggling mode.
Vaisshnav Tej’s Ranga Ranga Vaibhavanga is releasing on September 2nd. The trailer was out recently but it fell short of the expectations. Jathi Ratnalu director Anudeep is presenting a small film First Day First Show and the film too is carrying low expectations. Satyadev and Tamannaah starrer Gurthunda Seethakalam is releasing on September 9th. Most of the audience are not aware about the film and its release. Kiran Abbavaram’s Nenu Meeku Baga Kavalsinavadini too is releasing on the same date and the makers are promoting the film.
Sharwanand who is struggling for success will test his luck with Oke Oka Jeevitham. The film sounds to be an emotional entertainer and the audience are not much interested about the film. None of the promotional content was impressive. Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra is also releasing on September 9th. Vishal will test his luck with Laththi and the film releases on September 15th. Sudheer Babu and Krithi Shetty starrer Aa Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Cheppali is releasing on September 16th. Regina and Nivetha Thomas starrer Saakini Daakini
will be in theatres on 16th.
Sree Vishnu’s Alluri will release on September 23rd. Naga Shaurya’s long-delayed own film Krishna Vrinda Vihari too will release on 23rd. Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: Part-1 will release on September 30th. For now, none of the films are carrying terrific buzz and are kept in the watchlist of the audience among the September releases. We have to wait to see if they will change with the trailer of the films and the promotional content.
Tough Times for Small Films in Theatres
RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 ended up as massive hits across the country and the audience watched the visual spectacles in theatres. Small films that released in the recent times did not fare well though the talk was impressive. Most of the audience are not ready to watch the films without stars in theatres. Vishwak Sen’s Ashoka Vanam Lo Arjuna Kalyanam received decent response but the film could not hold well on weekdays after a decent weekend run. Naga Shaurya’s Krishna Vrinda Vihari has been postponed twice after the release date has been announced. The distributors and exhibitors are not ready to buy small and medium-budget films for now considering the interest of the audience.
Rajasekhar’s Shekar is releasing next Friday and the makers are releasing the film on their own as they have no great theatrical deals. The filmmakers of small-budget films are left puzzled about when to release their films. June, July and August are packed with medium-budget films of tire two heroes. Several small films will find it tough to hit the screens in the coming months. By July or August, there would be a new bunch of medium-budget films getting ready. 2022 will have a tough time for small-budget films in theatres.
