Baahubali-2 created history in US – List of first weekend records

South India epic fantasy drama Baahubali : The Conclusion, which opened amidst heavy expectations last Friday, is on a record breaking spree at the box office in India and US. The sequel to the 2015 smash hit Baahubali 1 is punching out terrific revenues in all territories of its release. After making an epic start with earth shattering day one collections, the SS Rajamouli visual extravaganza dominated the box office over the first weekend. The film tore apart many records in US and here is the list of significant ones.

1) Baahubali 2 became the first Indian film to zoom past the $ 10 Million mark in overseas in just three days. This is a record of sorts and is likely to be unbreakable in the near future by any other Indian film.

2) Baahubali 2 surpassed the lifetime collections of the first part in the franchise in less than three days. The first part collected $ 8.45 million in its full run. Baahubali 2 notched up $ 4.5 Million on Friday ( including premiers) and went on to collect $3.4 Million on Saturday and $ 2.1 M on Sunday ( counting).

3) The film is set to eclipse the total collections of Dangal ( $ 12.5M) and emerge as the top grossing Indian film ever by the end of second weekend. Trade circles are expecting that Baahubali 2 will collect over $ 15 Million in its full run.

4) It is well known that Baahubali 2 is only the third Indian film in history to release in IMAX in US. The IMAX version of the film punched out $ 1.8 M by the end of first weekend and set a new record for being the highest grossing foreign film with IMAX format. The film has collected an average of $ 45 K per screen with its IMAX version. This is a huge record by any yardstick for any foreign film.

The film is expected to continue the dream run in the coming weekend too and more records are likely to be rewritten.

Rajamouli thanks ‘Baahubali’ fans for support

0

Filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli has thanked the fans of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” for their support after the films release.

“It’s only natural that a big project like ‘Baahubali’ faces hurdles during release. I must say that the enormous love and support that was given by ‘Baahubali’ fans made us cruise through the obstacles,” Rajamouli tweeted on Sunday.

“Thank you everyone who have been with us for the past five years encouraging us at every turn. You have given us such a big success that we can keep it in our hearts for the rest of our lives,” he added.

While the first part, “Baahubali: The Beginning”, released in July 2015 and minted over Rs 600 crore at the box office, “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” was supposed to come out in 2016.

However, the makers took time and released the film on April 28 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.

With an estimated earnings of Rs 121 crore from first day across four languages, “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” is said to have registered the biggest opening for an Indian film.

The film features Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah in the lead.

Now full priority to next two Telugu projects: Prabhas

Actor Prabhas, who is finally relieved of the “Baahubali” franchise after spending nearly five years of his career, says he will now shift his full focus to his upcoming two Telugu projects.

“I have a film each with directors Sujeeth and Radha Krishna. I might work on both these projects simultaneously. We will commence work on Sujeeth’s ‘Saaho’ from next month onwards. My full priority is on completing these projects,” Prabhas told IANS.

Asked about the possibility of signing a Hindi project, he said: “If something really interesting comes my way, I might do it. Right now, I only have these two Telugu films.”

The teaser of “Saaho”, a high-octane action film, was released with “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”.

Sujeeth’s film is slated for release next year.

Radha Krishna had previously told IANS that his film with Prabhas will be completely shot abroad.

“The entire film will be shot abroad and we are currently zeroing in on the locations. It will be a love story and we are yet to finalise the leading lady,” Radha Krishna had said.

Both these projects will be bankrolled by UV Creations.

Baahubali 2 dwarfs Hollywood biggies, emerges as top grosser in US on Thursday

Arka Media Works tent-pole film Baahubali : The Conclusion, sequel to 2015 smash hit Baahubali : The Beginning, has opened on a super strong note at the worldwide box office this week. The film debuted at No. 1 position in US as the premiers day gross breached the $ 3 Million mark, making it the first Indian film in the history to achieve the rare feat of emerging as the top grosser on Thursday emulating various Hollywood biggies like Fate and Furious, The Boss Baby and Beauty and the Beast.

The SS Rajamouli magnum opus is unstoppable in all territories of US and the first weekend figures are going to be mind boggling. Trade circles predicted the film to collect $7-8 million by the end of the first weekend, but considering the staggering start it is likely that the epic drama will notch up close to $ 9 million by Sunday evening. The visual extravaganza is largely benefitted by SS Rajamouli’s arresting narration and career best performances from Prabhas and Anushka. Made on a lavish budget, Baahubali franchise also stars Rana, Ramya Krishna and Nazeer in important roles.

Early morning shows of ‘Baahubali 2’ cancelled in TN

0

Early morning shows of S.S Rajamouli’s magnum opus “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion” were cancelled on Friday due to financial issues in Tamil Nadu, industry sources said.

“Tamil Nadu distributor K Productions owes Rs 15 crore to Arka Mediworks, the makers of ‘Baahubali 2’. Arka is yet to issue KDM for the release of Telugu and Tamil versions of the film in the state,” a source told IANS.

A theatre owner, on the condition of anonymity, said the issue is likely to be settled by the afternoon.

“Talks are being currently held to settle the deficit. Shows are likely to open from noon,” the theatre owner said.

The Hindi version, however, has released in Tamil Nadu.

“The Hindi version didn’t have any issues because it’s being released nationwide by Anil Thadani,” the source added.

Meanwhile, “Baahubali 2” has released in other parts of the country and has been received well.

The film stars Rana Daggubati, Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan.

‘Baahubali 2’: Hype by makers, expectations by fans touch new highs

0

Why did Kattappa kill Baahubali? An enigma that has been on the mind of every Indian since the last 21 months, will finally get unveiled on Friday with the release of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”. If trade pundits and films experts are to be believed, filmmaker S.S. Rajamoulis magnum opus will set new benchmarks in Indian cinema.

Released in July 2015, ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ — the first film in the epic fantasy franchise — raked in over Rs 600 crore at the box office while leaving fans amazed with its grandiose sets, unprecedented action sequences and astounding storyline. Thus, fans across the world keenly await “Baahubali 2”, which will release in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam in over 6500 screens across India.

The film features Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Rana Daggubati and Tamannaah in the lead.

“I have sky high expectations from ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’ and I believe it’s going to make records. Expectations from first film were not that big. Despite that‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ worked so well. The way it performed is the reason why expectations are so huge from the second part,” Mumbai-based distributor Rajesh Thadani told IANS.

“This film has the potential to create new benchmarks in cinema. There have been films in the past which have had big hype, but ‘Baahubali’ is an exception. It will definitely open doors for the southern industry in other regions,” Thadani added.

Trade expert Taran Adarsh said “Baahubali 2” will get a “hurricane” at the box office, which has not witnessed huge footfalls for the last few weeks now.

“The weather may be hot and humid, but the box office is ice-cold… Await ‘Baahubali 2′ to reactivate film business… Expecting a hurricane at the box office,” Adarsh tweeted last week.

In north India, Delhi-based distributor Joginder Mahajan is expecting a “miracle” with the film.

“Advance booking for the film is doing great. There are discussions going on between exhibitors and distributors regarding the profits in north India. The hype of the film is really huge amongst the masses. It might break all the records at the box office,” Mahajan told IANS.

Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow said that they are witnessing an “unprecedented advance booking” for “Baahubali 2”.

“We have already sold over one million tickets across languages, even when the bookings have been live for just over a day. Though the film is largely perceived to be loved by South Indian audience, the response from Hindi speaking markets has been highly encouraging as well,” Saksena told IANS.

In South, “Baahubali 2” will release in around 650 screens in Tamil Nadu. According to trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai, it’s the biggest release for a film in the state.

“Even Rajinikanth’s ‘Enthiran’ and ‘Kabali’ released in just over 500 screens. The craze for ‘Baahubali’ is phenomenal and unprecedented. The buzz is bigger than it has ever been for a big Tamil film. Tickets are sold out everywhere,” Pillai told IANS.

Unlike other states, where the ticket prices have been hiked in huge numbers, in Tamil Nadu, the film’s ticket is being sold at the nominal price of Rs 120 due to the price cap by the government.

Pillai added that the film’s release timing is perfect.

“It’s the summer vacation for kids. The film is going to have a dream run for first four days as May 1 (Labour Day) happens to be holiday. It’s a very well planned release and I have been told the team locked the release date nearly eight months ago,” he said.

In Kerala, meanwhile, Global United Media is releasing the film in over 300 screens.

“This is the biggest release ever for a non-Malayalam film. This is the kind of film which doesn’t get made every day. Since the release of ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’, the total number of theatres in Kerala has increased which has automatically paved the way for a wider release for the second part.

“The film is going to set new benchmarks for Indian cinema,” Prem Menon, Managing Director, Global United Media, told IANS.

The buzz around the film’s release is even higher in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, say experts.

So, one can say that the stage is perfectly set for “Baahubali 2” to prove is mettle and set new records in Indian cinema.

CBFC member review on Baahubali 2

0

Baahubali 2, the most awaited film in the history of Indian cinema, has not been screened anywhere yet so theoretically the review shouldn’t come out yet. However, a prominent Censor Board member, who watched the film during the censor process of Hindi version, has reportedly divulged some key details that are worth to be mentioned as a mini review.

As per the CBFC member, Baahubali 2 is bigger than the first part in each and every aspect. Despite the runtime is close to three hours, there is not a single dull moment in the epic film. The visual effects in the action sequences this time are on par with the Hollywood blockbusters. And, the answer to the biggest question that held the interest of audiences on the second part for two long years – ‘Why Katappa killed Baahubali”, will leave everyone appalled and disbelieving, as per CBFC member.

The confrontation scenes between Prabhas and Rana will leave audiences awestruck. He added that their one-to-one battle is heart-stopping. “The duo fight like restless lions in a cage but something keeps them from tearing apart each other. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal what it is. The stunts, the spectacle, the performances, emotional quotient and the visual effects are superior to the first part. Audiences will come out very happy but they will also be very sad realizing that it is the end of Baahubali saga,” he concluded.

Report on Advance Booking of Baahubali 2: Exceptional

0

With just two days left for the release of ‘Baahubali 2’, advance ticket booking has opened in almost all the major circuits. And, the initial report is fantastic to say the least.

The exemplary advance booking has not just limited to the Telugu sates but similar eagerness is witnessed in circuits like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Chennai, Bengaluru and Punjab belt. In certain multiplexes and single screens, the tickets were booked within minutes. Although the film is being planned for a release in around 8000 screens, it still doesn’t look enough to satiate the eagerness of audiences. Similar madness is being reported in overseas as well.

Heeding to the craze for film and requests of filmmakers, the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana govt. have respectively permitted the exhibitors of Baahubali 2 to screen 6 and 5 shows a day respectively. In circuits such as Mumbai, shows will commence from as early as 6 AM, which is a rarity. Not even the Bollywood biggies have able to invoke similar euphoria in North India as Baahubali 2 did.

Considering all these factors, Bahubali 2 is expected to open to gigantic numbers across the world. Do we have the first Rs 1000 crore Indian grosser debuting in theatres in two days? Yes, say trade experts.

‘Baahubali’ has given Indian filmmakers license to go big: Rana Daggubati

Actor Rana Daggubati, who awaits the release of “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion”, believes the success of S.S. Rajamoulis “Baahubali” as a franchise has given Indian filmmakers the faith and confidence to go big.

“I think ‘Baahubali’ has proved it that when you’re making a film for the entire nation, it is bigger than any film made in one language. You could be a filmmaker sitting in Madurai and if you have a great superhero film to make, you have the faith and confidence to make your film because there’s a country of audience to watch it,” Rana told IANS.

Does he feel there is sudden urge to make bigger films, especially after the announcement of Mohanlal-starrer multilingual film “The Mahabharata”, to be made on a budget of Rs 1000 crore?

“I think it is amazing filmmakers have started to think big. ‘Baahubali’ has given them the license to go big,” he said.

In “Baahubali” franchise, Rana plays a fictional character Bhallaladeva, who locks horns over an ancient kingdom with his brother Amarendra Baahubali, played by Prabhas.

Asked if he finds surprising that a negative character vis-à-vis all the positive ones he has played so far has won him nation-wide recognition, he said: “It’s a Rs 450 crore war film and it will give you far greater visibility.”

“It is the biggest film in the country and even if I played any other character, it would have given me the same visibility. This is franchise cinema which is far bigger than any film that I have been part of so far,” he explained.

Rana, known for being part of films such as “Leader”, “Dum Maaro Dum” and “Department”, says he has always been on the lookout for projects that transcended regional boundaries.

“‘Baahubali’ helped me explore new avenues across borders. It has given us so much strength that even while sitting in Hyderabad, we could think of making a huge franchise-based film that will be lapped up by the entire nation. It has taught me to take content to wherever I want,” he said, adding the experience of working on the country’s biggest film helped him to “understand and portray a character better”.

“It is because of the experience of working with finer actors and a highly talented director. Everything I have learnt from both the parts of the film will reflect on whatever I choose to do next,” he said.

“Baahubali: The Beginning” had a phenomenal run at the box office. It ended up as one of the biggest grossers of Indian cinema.

Is there a sense of nervousness ahead of the release of “Baahubali 2”, considering part one was a huge hit?

“It is the same story audiences are going to watch after two years. It’s the continuation of what happened at the end of first part. When we were making part one, we didn’t realise how big it will become and where it will take us,” Rana said.

“The fact that it has become a brand and has been accepted even internationally, gives you so much more strength to make a greater part two. Ultimately, everything that we have made in this film is bigger than the first part,” he added.

Talking about “Baahubali 2”, Rana said things got easier while working on this project.

“When we were doing the first part, it was our first attempt in the war genre and everything was new to us. None of us even knew how everything that we are shooting will look in the end with visual effects. There were challenges every single day and it was a struggle to address them,” Rana said.

“Though part two was a physically taxing film in every which way, what we did here was we didn’t make the same mistakes we made in part one. We had bigger budget to shoot, thanks to the success of first part,” he said.

“Baahubali 2…”, which also stars Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Sathyaraj and Ramya Krishnan, is slated for worldwide release on Friday.

Baahubali gave indelible scars to Prabhas

Dedicating nearly five years for a single project might have been taxing for Baahubali star Prabhas, but the stardom and the craze he achieved after the success of first part made him forgot all the hard work and put him in a happy space. It is well known that the macho actor performed breathtaking action stunts in both parts. Unfortunately, these stunts have left some permanent scars on Prabhas’ body.

According to the exclusive reports in a leading news daily, while shooting for some war episodes, the actor got some scars on his body and they are so deep that they remain with him forever. Sources say that Prabhas shot for most of the risky scenes by himself without any body double.

Currently busy with the promotional campaign, Prabhas will soon commence shooting for his next project which is being directed by Sujith.
