TDP selects Narayana for Nellore Town?

0

TDP has done several surveys on whom to field from Nellore Town and Nellore Rural assembly segments in 2019 elections so as to give a strong fight and win over YCP which has posted victories here in last elections.

In all these surveys, Municipal Administration Minister P. Narayana has become a favourite for Nellore Town as the public mood among different sections is stated to be in favour of his leadership because of his good work in the past four years. If TDP really finalises this choice, it will be the first time ever for Narayana of IIT fame to enter the electoral politics.

A long-time associate of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu right from Venkateswara University days, Narayana has been popular as the head of Narayana Educational Institutions till 2014. After that, he was given MLC post and made Minister in Naidu cabinet.

Meanwhile, YCP considers Nellore district as its stronghold next only to Kadapa. In 2014, the party won seven assembly segments while the remaining three were bagged by the TDP. Afterwards, Gudur MLA P. Sunil shifted loyalties to TDP.

This time, TDP is seriously thinking of giving tough fights to YCP by bringing in candidates with considerable money power and close contacts with local people. Actually, Mayor Aziz has been asking for Nellore Town ticket but TDP leadership has decided to move Aziz to Nellore Rural. There is a considerable Muslim population in Nellore Rural and choice of Aziz is being seen as a better one.

Leaders from the Anam and Nedurumalli political families have joined YCP recently. Seeing this, TDP seems bent upon attracting non-Reddy voters by fielding strong candidates from other communities.

Vizag North: Will BJP MLA join TDP?

0

Visakhapatnam North MLA Penmetsa Vishnu Kumar Raju is likely to quit BJP and join TDP ahead of the 2019 general elections. Rumours are spread in political circles that the TDP leadership has not appointed any party incharge for Vizag North assembly segment just because it wants Raju to contest next elections from here.

An outspoken and vocal speaker, Vishnu Kumar Raju has carried out his duties as BJP Legislature Party leader in Assembly all these years efficiently by countering TDP leaders in various debates on Centre’s injustice to AP after state division. But in the recent Assembly session, Raju’s role in passing of unanimous resolution became a point of concern for BJP top leaders.

At the recent Kakinada meeting, addressed by senior BJP leader Ram Madhav, the issue of Vishnu Kumar Raju not objecting to TDP’s unanimous resolution against Centre came up for discussion. Though senior leaders took objection to Raju’s role, the Vizag MLA strongly defended himself saying that the unanimous resolution was not formally passed by Assembly as voting was not taken up.

Raju faced criticism from within the party ever since and he was stated to have spoken about his likelihood of leaving BJP sooner or later with his friends and followers. Hearing about this, rival parties began efforts to invite him. YCP leaders asked Raju to contest 2019 elections on their party ticket from Vizag North. After he did not accept it, YCP had allotted this ticket to KK Raju.

Now, the TDP has kept its party incharge’s post in this segment vacant. Political observers are interpreting it as an indication of bringing in Vishnu Kumar Raju to make him contest on TDP ticket from Vizag North.

TV9 avoids PK speeches, but promptly telecasts TDP counters

0

TV9 today telecast Chandra Babu’s response on Pawan’s sensational comments about somebody conspiring to kill him. It also telecast response of other TDP leaders like Prattipati Pulla Rao, Chintamaneni and Babu Rajendra Prasad on Pawan statements.

Chandrababu responded to Pawan comments and said that there is police system in the country and one has to believe in the system. He also added that, his government doesn’t spare anyone if they try to create unrest in society. He also told, it is not correct on the part of Pawan Kalyan to make such comments.

Chintamaneni earlier reacted strongly to Pawan’s comments and challenged him to contest against him. He also reacted to “Assembly Rowdy” comment on him saying he will also win again like Shivaji (Mohan Babu character name in Assembly rowdy movie) from his constituency. Later, Babu Rajendra Prasad and Prattipati Pulla Rao also reacted very strongly to Pawan’s comments. All these statements found good coverage in TV9. It is very much understandable political parties reacting strongly against the comments made by political opponents.

However, TV9, which claims itself working for better society, completely avoiding giving coverage to one political party but promptly telecasting counter comments on that party is surprising. TV9 is not at all covering Pawan Kalyan meetings and his speeches either through Live or through recorded videos. In fact it is not even giving scrolling about Pawan Kalyan statements during his public meetings. If TV9 is mentioning something about Pawan Kalyan, you can make sure that it is about ruling party leaders condemning his statements.

If TV9 really wants to avoid Pawan Kalyan completely from their channel, they can avoid Pawan Kalyan comments as well as the counter comments on him by the ruling party. Long back, Eenadu used to avoid Dasari Narayana Rao name completely in their newspaper as well as in the ETV. In fact while telecasting movies in ETV, it used to cut the titles frame in which Dasari Narayana Rao name is mentioned as writer and director. Eenadu avoided both positive as well as negative news on Dasari Narayana Rao for a while. But what TV9 is doing is different – it is completely avoiding positive news as well as plain reporting of Pawan Kalyan statements. But it is very promptly telecasting when other party leaders make scathing comments on Pawan Kalyan or janasena.

In fact TV9 did similar strategy in 2008 and 2009 during PRP times. It used to completely avoid Chiranjeevi meetings or his comments but promptly telecast counter comments by the leaders of then ruling Congress Party. We will have to wait and see how people will respond on the selective coverage and selective presentation of TV9 (in case of Pawan Kalyan).

Mahakutami in Telangana: Split in anti KCR vote unavoidable

0

Mahakutami in Telangana: Irritants surface, commitment stays; Split in anti KCR vote unavoidable
The Congress bid to stitch up Mahagatbandhan type grand alliance in Telangana continues to face hurdles over seat sharing. The demand of TDP, CPI and the Telangana Jana Samithi for more seats is unpalatable to congress which does not want to depend on allies to come to power in the post poll arithmetic.

According to sources, the TJS wants 35 seats, while the TDP proposed to contest in as many as 21 seats. The CPI submitted a list of 12 seats which it wants to contest . As the allies make such demands, the congress will be left with just over 50 seats . However, the leaders of allies tell in private that this is only a wish list and ultimately there will be adjustment.

Meanwhile, the congress reportedly offered only three seats to TJS . Such a wide difference in what is sought by the allies and what is offered by the congress makes the seat adjustment an uphill task.
Once the number of seats finalises, there will be dispute over identifying the particular constituencies each party will contest as there will be competing claims in at least few segments. Subsequently, there will be a problem of satisfying the rebels to ensure united fight . Finally, the vote should transfer from one party to the other.

At the time of filing this report, it is learnt that the TDP and the CPI are ready to prune their claims substantially paving the way for a grand alliance. But, the TJS still remains stubborn. Meanwhile the Congress leadership feels that the TJS is an untested missile.

Besides, the TJS has sought the formation of a committee to prepare a common Minimum Programme which it calls the Martyrs agenda. The TJS is insisting that its leader Prof. Kodandaram should lead such a committee which not only formulates the agenda but would be monitoring such an agenda in case the grand alliance is voted to power.

Though the PCC chief is reportedly agreeable to such an idea, the Congress party has its own apprehensions over such a proposal especially with reference to post poll monitoring of the agenda. The Congress wants to confine the role of any such committee headed by Prof. Kodandaram to the drafting of the agenda only. The Congress fears that this should not lead to any claims for Chief Minister from the allies given the experience of Karnataka.

The Congress high command is not so favourable to accord to Prof. Kodandaram a position akin to UPA chairperson, according to sources in the party.

However, the congress is convinced of the fact that it cannot on its own dislodge KCR and is desperate to have alliances. The TDP and CPI are fighting a battle for survival and henceforth more than keen to join a grand alliance. Thus, the opposition finding the grand alliance a win-win opportunity is politically committed for such a conglomeration though the devil lies in working out details.

Meanwhile TRS has intensified its attack on opposition primarily aimed at frustrating the formation of any possible political alliance led by congress. . The primary argument of the TRS is on the role of Andhra leaders in Telangana politics . This refers to the presence of TDP led by Andhra Chief Minister , N Chandrababu Naidu in the grand alliance. KT Rama Rao spearheaded the attack when he specifically targeted not just the Congress but even Prof. Kodandaram.

Meanwhile even if the congress , TDP, CPI and the TJS manage to arrive at an understanding, there will not be a joint opposition taking on the KCR juggernaut. The BJP and the CPI(M) are not part of this opposition unity exercise making anti TRS vote split rather inevitable much to the advantage of KCR.

Stop defaming AP: TDP tells Jagan

0

The ruling TDP leaders have got yet another opportunity to tear apart criticism from rival parties as the High Court dismissed a petition for ordering enquiry into alleged irregularities in the setting up of IT firms in Andhra Pradesh in the past four years.

With greater force, TDP has begun making comments against the YCP and asked Jagan to at least stop defaming AP in front of the outside world by resorting to such baseless allegations about developmental projects in the state. The ruling party says that in his bid to make Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu unpopular, Jagan’s followers are only damaging AP’s interests as a whole.

Welcoming HC order, TDP Rajya Sabha MP Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar said that YCP leaders were not learning any lesson from such instances when the courts were outrightly dismissing their petitions of alleged corruption. He said that the recent petition was filed by former law officer Shravan Kumar and it was summarily dismissed by HC for obvious reasons of lack of truth and genuineness.

TDP says that it was during Chandrababu’s regime in United AP that many IT towers were built in Hyderabad and that eventually made it a world renowned hub for software development creating employment to lakhs of software professionals now.

YCP should realise its folly and stop putting hurdles in developmental projects at least from now. Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra once again asked Jagan to accept Lokesh’s challenge for proving irregularities in any project now. During his time, YS Rajasekhara Reddy ordered many enquiry commissions but not a single one of that proved Mr. Chandrababu Naidu wrong.

Recently, BJP MP GVL Narasimha Rao tried to tarnish Naidu’s image by blowing UNO invitation out of proportions even as TDP leaders issued effective counters to him.

Planning and organised criticism by TDP were taking rival leaders by surprise. YCP and BJP would have to really toil hard to match Chandrababu team ahead of 2019 elections.

TDP members walk out of meeting with South Central Railway

0

TDP MPs walked out of a meeting with South Central Railway officials here Tuesday, demanding that their ‘sentiment’ for setting up a new railway zone at Visakhapatnam be conveyed to the Ministry of Railways.

“The MPs raised the demand for a new railway zone, but they too said it is a decision to be taken by the Government of India.

They asked the South Central Railway to convey their sentiment (on the railway zone) to the Ministry of Railways.

We assured them that their sentiment will be conveyed,” SCR General Manager Vinod Kumar Yadav told reporters after the meeting ended abruptly.

The YSR Congress and BJP MPs did not attend the meeting.

The meeting, convened by SCR General Manager, was to discuss ongoing railway projects in Andhra Pradesh and passenger related issues.

After the General Manager briefed the 12 TDP MPs about the railway works, the latter raised slogans, demanding establishment of a new railway zone at Visakhapatnam in accordance with the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014.

They protested the Centres ‘indifference’ on the issue and walked out of the meeting.

Outside the Electrical Traction Training Centre at Satyanarayanapuram, where the meeting was held, TDP workers staged a protest on the railway zone issue.

The MPs too joined the protest after walking out of the meeting and alleged that the Centre had been cheating the state over the railway zone by making contradictory claims.

Also, no problem related to the railways in the state had been resolved in the last four and a half years, they added.

“It is futile to attend such meetings,” they said.

TDP MPs Kesineni Srinivas, M Murali Mohan, Maganti Venkateswara Rao, K Ravindra Kumar and others attended the meeting.

Ex TTD Chairman to leave TDP to join Pawan

0

Much ahead of the 2019 general elections, the season for the aspiring politicians to change loyalties has begun and senior leaders are no exception to this.

All is set now for TTD former Chairman and ex Tirupati MLA Chadalavada Krishnamurthy to leave TDP and join the Jana Sena in the next few days.

A deeply devout person, he is said to have decided to change party soon and he has already met Pawan Kalyan and got assurances of enough recognition in the party.

The immediate reason for Krishnamurthy’s decision is given out by his followers who say that their leader was not treated well by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during his recent visit to Tirumala.

A senior leader, Krishnamurthy began his political career in the Congress party and served as the Nellore district Youth Congress president in the 1980s. He also served as the sarpanch of Nayudupeta town.

He changed loyalty to TDP in 1999 and contested successfully from Tirupati on TDP ticket. He was among the other leaders injured along with Chandrababu Naidu in the Alipiri attack.

Jana Sena is also rolling out red carpet to senior leaders from other parties if they are voluntarily coming forward in search of recognition.

Political observers say that the coming days will witness an increased activity of political aspirants to migrate to other parties for better opportunities.

The next election has indeed become the most prestigious like never before as TDP, YCP and Jana Sena are not going to let go of any small chance to change the election results in their favour.

In this scenario, second rung leaders and ticket aspirants will matter the most.

BJP not respecting federal spirit: AP Assembly

0

G Ravikiran

In a unanimous resolution, AP Assembly took strong objection to the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for not conferring special status on AP and for not implementing the other promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

As the current session came to a close, the ruling TDP took the opportunity and introduced the resolution to attack the Centre on bifurcation promises. The BJP AP leaders had no choice but to silently accept and support the resolution to avoid inviting greater disapproval of the AP people.
The Assembly made a scathing attack saying that “the BJP government at the Centre was not showing federal and democratic spirit with regard to AP promises. It should note that all parties in the country said in parliament that the special status is the right of AP people. This promise was made at the time of state division and was made by the then Prime Minister in the Parliament. Now the Centre was wrong in trying to refuse this in the name of 14th Finance Commission not recommending the same. Then how is it allowing 11 other states to enjoy tax concessions and other benefits of special status?”
TDP National President and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu used the occasion to portray the BJP as the main enemy of AP now while asserting that the people would also defeat YCP and BJP local leaders for their support to the anti-AP policies of the Centre.

Naidu said: “These parties are acting like the British Raj in colonial era. They are forgetting the fact that they are part of a democratic system. Our only question is why injustice is being done to AP without a stop even four years after division. The TRS in Telangana once supported AP cause but it withdrew that support now only because of the pressure brought by the BJP leadership. This kind of negative mindset is hurting AP people now and there they are causing more damage to future generations. People will remember this”

Mr Naidu deplored that the Centre was collecting huge taxes but not passing on the consequential benefits. It is treating AP people as its slaves and not as rightful citizens.

As usual, the YCP members were absent in the session. BJP Legislature Party leader Vishnukumar Raju had no option but to say that as a person born in Andhra, he would support the resolution silently as it was pertaining to the greater cause of the state.

Sugunamma officially denies quitting TDP

0

Tirupati MLA sugunamma has been in news for last few months. Initially she was in news because of the conflict with TTD officials. Later she was in news for absenting Chief minister’s program. After seeing this developments, media as well as social media reported about rumours on sugunamma leaving TDP and joining Janasena party ( https://www.telugu360.com/tdp-mla-joining-janasena/ ).

However, today she denied all those rumours and released an official statement regarding this. In that statement, she told she will not leave TDP and will continue in the party till the end. She also told, her husband late Venkata Ramana joined TDP because of the faith he has on Chandrababu Naidu. She added, she also has full faith on Chandrababu Naidu. She rubbished the rumours about leaving the party to join any other party and told that his political opponents are creating all these rumours to malign her image.

NBW conspiracy to target Chandrababu Naidu: TDP

0

Andhra Pradesh’s ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Friday alleged that the non-bailable warrant against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu by a Maharashtra court is a conspiracy by the Central government to target him.

Naidu, in his first reaction, said he was not afraid of the NBW as he did not commit any crime.

“During my entire political career, I always worked for the people,” he told a public meeting in Kurnool on Friday.

Judicial Magistrate First Class, Dharmabad Court (Nanded), N.R. Gajbhiye on Thursday issued the NBWs against Naidu and his cabinet colleagues, Irrigation Minister D.U. Rao, Social Welfare Minister G. Kamalakar and 12 others in a 2010 case pertaining to an agitation against the Babli Barrage on the Godavari river.

The police have been ordered to arrest them and present them before the court at the next hearing on September 21.

The incident took place when the TDP had organised massive protests against what it termed the “illegal constructions” of the Babli Barrage project by the Maharashtra government allegedly to divert the Godavari river water from Telangana region of the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

At that time, Naidu, who was the Leader of Opposition in the state, along with 40 legislators, had entered the barrage vicinity flouting prohibitory orders clamped there.

The police had caned some protesters and later arrested all of them.

Later, as Naidu refused to take bail, he was sent back to Hyderabad by a flight, and subsequently cases were filed against all agitators on various counts.

The TDP chief said he wanted to go to the Babli project site to lodge a protest as the project would have reduced north Telangana to a desert.

“Whether we are in power or in opposition, we always fought for the people,” Naidu said.

TDP MP Kesineni Nani told reporters in Vijayawada that the central government is resorting to a witch-hunt against the TDP chief for fighting against the injustice meted out to Andhra Pradesh.

Nani wondered how NBWs can be issued now when Maharashtra Police had stated that time that the case is being closed.

Nani alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President Amit Shah and YSR Congress president Jaganmohan Reddy have hatched the conspiracy. The MP, however, said nobody can do anything to Naidu as he enjoyed the people’s support.

Meanwhile, actor-turned-politician Shivaji said on Friday that a big conspiracy was being hatched against Naidu. He claimed that more notices would be issued to the TDP leader in the coming days.

Shivaji, who was earlier with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), had said last week that Naidu would soon get the notice as the Central government is looking to target him under what he calls operation ‘Garuda’.

However, BJP leaders in Andhra Pradesh denied that their party is behind the warrant against Naidu.

Naidu’s TDP pulled out of the BJP-led NDA in March this year. The party later moved a no trust motion against the Narendra Modi government.

Non bailable arrest warrant against Chandrababu Naidu

0

In a rather shocking development, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been issued non bailable arrest warrant by a court in Maharashtra. The notices were issued in connection with the protest done by Chandrababu and co against Babli project a decade back. Notices were issued by Dharmabad court in Maharashtra. Notices were issued to Chandrababu, Devineni Uma and 14 others.

The protest was taken up by TDP as Telangana people were at loss because of the Babli project. Then, Chandrababu and others were house arrested by Maharashta government. Later they were taken back to Hyderabad in special flight by Maharashtra government.

Is it Operation Garuda?
It is almost a decade since the incident and it is surprising that this case surfaced again now. Some people doubt whether this is part of Operation Garuda as actor Shivaji has been alleging. Moreover it is BJP ruling in Maharashtra.

Is it NOT operation Garuda?
But on the other hand, others rubbish the argument that this is Operation Garuda. Because this case is in fact reminding people about Chandrababu’s fight for Telangana people in this election season. Such action may actually help Chandrababu in Telangana elections.

We will have to wait and see how this case unfolds.

Congress, TDP, CPI form alliance in Telangana

0

In a major development, opposition Congress, TDP and CPI on Tuesday joined hands to form a grand alliance to take on the ruling TRS in Telangana in the ensuing Assembly elections.

The leaders of these parties announced after first round of talks that they are forming the alliance.

This is the first time in Telugu Desam Party’s 35-year-old history that it is joining hands with the Congress in a state.

State Congress chief Uttam Kumar Reddy said they would try to bring together all opposition parties to defeat Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). The alliance will also seek support of all people’s organisations, employees, unemployed and women’s groups.

The leaders of Congress, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Communist Party of India (CPI) met at a star hotel in the city. This was their first meeting to form an alliance.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao last week dissolved the Assembly to go for early elections. The polls are likely in November.

The opposition parties have termed TRS chief’s action as undemocratic.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, TDP’s Telangana unit president L. Ramna and CPI’s state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and other leaders of the three parties held the talks.

Later, they joined leaders of other opposition parties to meet Governor E.S. L. Narasimhan and demand President’s rule in the state.

They said that free and fair elections were not possible in Telangana with Chandrashekhar Rao as the caretaker Chief Minister.

The state Congress chief later told reporters that the opposition parties have expressed their concern over KCR abusing power for the benefit of TRS. They said KCR had openly claimed that he had discussed with Central Election Commission to hold the elections in November.

“This is against the principles of democracy and against the Constitution. Holding of elections and formation of government is the duty of Election Commission and not the ruling party’s,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that Prime Minister Modi, CM KCR and Election Commission appear to be in connivance to suppress people’s democratic rights.

He said that the Election Commission had announced the schedule for revision of electoral rolls on September 1. The entire process was to be completed by January 4.

TDP chief leaves decision on poll alliance to Telangana unit

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu has left it to party’s Telangana unit to decide alliance with Congress and other parties for the Assembly elections in the state.

Naidu told the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders of Telangana on Saturday that it’s for them to decide on the alliance. He discussed TDP’s strategy with the party leaders.

Naidu reportedly dropped hints that he would not be in a position to campaign for the party in Telangana.

The TDP chief’s move comes in the wake of reports that main opposition Congress party is ready to have an alliance with TDP, the Left parties and Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS) to take on ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Thursday dissolved the state Assembly. The elections are likely to be held by year-end along with four other states.

While addressing TDP leaders, Naidu avoided direct reference to the Congress. He remarked that ups and downs were common for TDP in its 35-year history.

Naidu claimed that if Telangana is a revenue-surplus state, it was because of the efforts he made during his stint as the chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister said that he wants progress and prosperity of both the Telugu states. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi tried to pitch Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao against him by stating that Rao displayed maturity.

Naidu also criticized Modi for the manner in which he rolled out demonetization and claimed that this exercise failed to achieve any purpose and ended up causing inconvenience to the people.

TDP’s Telangana unit chief L. Ramna and other leaders told Naidu that TDP’s support base remained intact in Telangana despite several leaders crossing over to TRS during last four years.

TDP bagged 15 seats in 119-member Telangana Assembly in 2014 elections. However, 13 of its legislators have switched loyalties to the ruling party.

What will Janasena and TDP gain in early elections?

0

KCR announced dissolving of the government and most of the candidates contesting from his party. Suddenly Telangana politics became so hot and everybody discussing various aspects of this decision of KCR. One such debate is, in what way this elections actually help Janasena and Telugu Desam Party that have more stakes in Andhra rather than in Telangana.

TDP is almost confirmed to have an election alliance with Congress party in Telangana. TDP and Congress were arch rivals for last 35 years and they are allying for the first time in Telangana. KCR decision of early elections actually helps TDP in a way that it now has time to test the experiment and see the results. Had KCR not announced this decision, probably Chandrababu would have experimented this in 2019 elections simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections , Telangana assembly elections and general elections of India. The outcome of this experiment is difficult to predict and so, it’s kind of a risk for CBN. Because, on the one hand both TDP and Congress are now anti BJP and both have mutually complimenting strengths i.e. in Telangana, Congress is strong party while TDP has some cadre that is called as sleeping vote bank. At the same time the situation is vice versa in Andhra Pradesh. But, on the other hand, TDP has its foundation on anti congress philosophy. Already political opponents and some common people keep pointing that Chandrababu has diluted the principles TDP on which NTR founded the party. Now if he allies with Congress he will have to face strong criticism on this again. So this has both pros and cons. But Telangana elections has given Chandrababu an opportunity to test the experiment and see the results.

If this experiment is successful like Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samajwadi Party combination in Uttar Pradesh against BJP, he can continue the same experiment in Andhra Pradesh elections as well as 2019 general elections. However, if the experiment fails to get expected results, he will still have 6 months to either refine the strategy or completely discard it. So in both ways it will actually help Chandrababu, because in any case he doesn’t have much expectations from the party in Telangana.

Janasena party also has one advantage because of this early elections. Janasena party progress is like sine curve with party getting good response when there is some interesting activity and at other the times it gives an impression that the party is still in its baby steps. Because of this early elections in Telangana, Janasena party that doesn’t have stakes in Telangana will be benefited in a way that the party will be able to get its election symbol during Telangana elections and will have ample time to take the symbol into the people for AP elections. During PRP time, fans of the party were very tensed until last moment ,as many TV channels and media houses ran the stories that PRP may not get common symbol and each of the MLA may have to contest on different symbol like an independent candidate. Even though the party got the common symbol in the last minute it didn’t have much time to take the symbol into the people. So now, during this Telangana elections even if Election Commission refuses to give Janasena a common symbol because it is just a registered party but not recognised party, EC must give the common symbol during AP elections if the party gets reasonable votes in Telangana elections.

Also the novice party will have its first elections faced in Telangana 6 months before AP elections. The experience in this elections will definitely help the party refine its electioneering strategies for AP elections. At the same time even if it loses in all the seats in Telangana it doesn’t do any damage to the party in AP, because the party is primarily focused in AP because of social equations.

So KCR’s decision in a way actually helps these parties for their next AP elections.

NTR and Kalyan Ram no to TDP’s request

In a tragic road accident, actor and former TDP politburo member Nandamuri Hari Krishna passed away in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The deceased body was kept for public visit at his residence and the obsequies were carried out on Thursday with full state honours by the Telangana government.

As Hari Krishna served as a former minister and a politburo member of the Telugu Desam party, which was launched by his father and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh NT Rama Rao, it came as a little surprise to many that his body was not taken to the party office in Hyderabad before the final rites were performed.

Sources close to the Nandamuri family revealed that NTR and Kalyan Ram, sons of Hari Krishna, refused to take his body to the party headquarters. Though the TDP leaders wanted Hari Krishna’s body to be kept at the party office at least for few minutes as a mark of respect, Nandamuri bothers were against it and said no to their request.

During the final rites, TDP chief and Andhra CM Chandra Babu Naidu was seen draping the Telugu Desam party flag over Hari Krishna’s body.

It is well known that Hari Krishna and his sons stayed away from active politics after the 2009 elections due to various reasons. So, it seems his family didn’t want to make the death a political affair and denied permission to take the body to the party office.

TDP lagging in Social media: YSRCP in better position & Janasena leads- part:2

We have seen in previous article that TDP is lagging in social media compared to YSRCP and Janasena even though it enjoys good strength in mainstream media.

Click here for Part – 1

In this article we’ll see how YSRCP and Janasena faring in social media.

YSRCP:

YSRCP didn’t have much support in social media before 2014 elections. That is mainly because urban voters of united Andhra Pradesh believed the feed that mainstream media like Eenadu and TV9 provided to Telugu people regarding corruption cases on Jagan. But gradually YSRCP’s strength in social media increased as anti-incumbency started on ruling party. This is understandable, as any ruling party will start facing anti-incumbency after the cooling off period of first one year rule. Moreover, as YSRCP is the only opposition party, all the anti-government content in social media credited to YSRCP. Some achievement as well as failures of YSRCP as below.

  • YSRCP social media wings were successful in labelling Lokesh as Pappu of Andhra Pradesh. This did lot of damage silently to not only Lokesh’s image but also to the party.
  • YSRCP social media was successful in convincing people that mainstream media is pro-TDP. The word “Yellow media” was coined and publicized by YSRCP social media platforms (of course, along with Sakshi). To be frank, now many people in AP believe that many channels that pose as neutral also support TDP and part of yellow media.
  • YSRCP social media was active in publishing the news that mainstream media ignored. YSRCP Social media wing was successful in revealing the emptiness of various schemes of TDP that were praised by mainstream media.

However, YSRCP social media also had it’s own downfalls:

  • During Nandyala by polls, social media was overwhelming with videos and articles supporting YSR CP. Some analysts attributed this to strategist Prashant Kishore. But during Nandyal by polls, everyday tens of videos added in support of YSRCP and predicting massive victory for YSRCP. Many thought YSRCP is trying to manipulate social media voice.
  • Recently Jagan’s personal comments on Pawan drew ire of Pawan fans and netizens in social media and the volume of trolls surprised many and it busted the myth that YSRCP is the strongest in social media.

Janasena

Janasena was the first Telugu party to recognize strength of social media and it officially launched social media wing Shatagni. It was first party to recruit content writers for party’s social media wing. Some of the achievements of Janasena Social media platforms.

  • When Kathi Mahesh or Sri Reddy targeted Pawan and there was no media supporting Pawan at that time, it was his fans and social media platforms pro-Janasena that fought against this character assassination.
  • The fact that there was no media support at that time got PK and Janasena sympathy and his fans battled through social media against any attempt to tear-off his party.
  • Right from 2014, PK fans were creating content in support of Pawan. Be it Uddanam issue, or any other issues he took up, his fans voluntarily brought out volumes of information regarding those issues and shared it through social media.
  • In April 2018, after Pawan waged war with mainstream media and many news channels sidelined his news, people started checking Pawan’s twitter account for the updates. For couple of days (Click here for : After Tweet war, Pawan’s twitter profile grows leaps and bounds ), Pawan’s twitter account grown faster than Modi’s and Kohli’s accounts.
  • Currently Shatagni, social media wing of Janasena, is very active in sharing the news of Janasena compared to social media wings of other Telugu parties

But social media strength may not necessarily equate to the overall strength of the party and it may not reflect in the votes also. But it definitely has the ability to “slightly” influence the mindset of voter.

We’ll have to wait and see how this social media strength will help the parties in 2019 elections.

TDP lagging in Social media, YSRCP in better position & Janasena leads – Part 1:

Of late, strength of political party in social media also has become a parameter to watch, for the analysts. There have been increasing instances where strength of the party in social media is attributed for the success of the party in elections.

During US elections even though, main stream media supported hillary clinton’s party, social media by and large supported Trump’s candidature president. It is not just in America, but across the world, all political parties started acknowledging the role of social media in deciding political fortunes of the parties. Before 2014 elections , entire social media supported Modi’s candidature for prime minister. Let us see how political parties of AP are doing in social media.

TDP :

TDP was very strong in social media before 2014 elections. In fact the credit goes to people rather than the party as most of the people supported TDP voluntarily post bifurcation decision. But now TDP is not at all strong in social media compared to YSRCP and Janasena. Even though it was strong in 2014, after coming to power TDP didn’t do anything to strengthen it’s presence in social media. Some of the failures of TDP in social media

  • While TDP’s political opponents were able to successfully label Lokesh as “Pappu” in the span of 3 years, social media wing of TDP could not defend or counter that.
  • At one point of time, AP government led by TDP filed cases on people creating trolls against TDP in social media. There’s no doubt some people crossed limits, but filing cases sent wrong signals on the government. It is actually inability of social media wings of TDP to counter such allegations.
  • Another strategic blunder by TDP social media is too much focus on “Operation Garuda” and BJP. First thing is, there are not many takers for this conspiracy theory among people, except TDP hardcore fans. Second thing is BJP has no stakes in AP. If TDP supporters think, by cornering BJP and alleging YSRCP and Janasena as puppets in the hands of BJP, that may prove costly later, if these parties suddenly change gears and target BJP too.
  • TDP failure in social media is clearly evident because of its inability to counter the allegations made by YSR CP and Janasena in social media. TDP was not even successful in projecting their successes in social media.

Even though TDP has lot of support in mainstream media, many people now believe mainstream media is biased and so they are not taking as is whatever the mainstream media is selling them nowadays. Because of this, even though there is lot of noise in social media, people are trusting the news publicized by social media, especially those news that mainstream media is avoiding. So, lagging in social media is actually doing silent damage to TDP’s prospects. It is high time TDP realizes this bitter truth.

Madam, are you not daughter of NTR?

0

While welcoming Kotla Hari Prasad Reddy of YCP in to BJP , Former Union Minister and BJP leader Daggubati Purandeswari emphasised the need to strengthen BJP in AP because of the yeoman help being rendered by BJP to AP. Ironically , no political statement in this decade is more ridiculous than this one. Incidentally, she spat venom on TDP for not acknowledging the voluminous funds, help and assistance of this magnitude from centre to Andhra Pradesh. More importantly, she accused TDP of misleading the people of AP by not appreciating BJP for the unprecedented and enormous assistance being given by centre to AP. What a joke ? Amusingly, she exhorted the people of AP to vote for BJP to have corruption free government. Purandeswari needs to realize that the people of AP are not fools and buffoons to be taken for a ride. They are matured enough to assess the level of help rendered by centre to AP. Everybody of AP knows that centre has given only that much towards Capital construction of AP, which is not even a miniscule of what it has given to Gujarat to erect the statue of a national leader. AP people are wise enough to observe what is being meted out to AP in the hands of BJP and how the state is being ditched and deceived by BJP in every possible way by forgetting all its promises and by showing scant respect to the provisions of AP Bifurcation Act relating to SCS, Polavaram, Railway Zone among many others. She shouldn’t assume that people of AP are blind, deaf and dumb.

Actually ,she should have fought against the center to do justice to AP people by taking a leaf out of the book of her iconic father in order to uphold the pride and honour of AP people. If she continues her words and deeds in the same fashion in future, It will be better for her to get nominated to Rajyasabha to become MP rather than contesting for Loksabha in 2019 where she would certainly lose her deposit despite being the daughter of a thespian like NTR.

Prof.K.Nageshwar – CBN indicates alliance with congress , TDP prepares to defend it’s political shift

0

Chandrababu Naidu has given firm indication that his party may join hands with congress in the ensuing elections. TDP has been a principal rival of congress since its inception both in the state and national politics. But, this changing political landscape in the state is redefining contours of relationship between TDP and congress. The special status narrative helps TDP to defend its major political shift. However, political circles are yet to agree on the electoral implications for TDP due to its proximity with congress, the party that bifurcated the state against the wishes of people of Seemandhra region.

It is true that the TDP was formed by NT Rama Rao to fight the Congress monopoly . But, it is also equally true that the TDP in its course of existence has seen many changes in the political landscape resulting in moderation and revision of its tactics. The United Front government for which N Chandrababu Naidu was the convener survived with the outside support of congress. Therefore , it need not be unusual if TDP firms up its decision to join hands with the Congress. In fact, today, Congress is no longer principal political rival for the ruling TDP.

Alliances mainly depend upon who is fighting whom. The TDP is pitted against the YSR Congress and the Congress is an insignificant player in the state politics today.

The first argument of the critics of TDP-Congress alliance is that the party has bifurcated the state against the wishes of people of Andhra region. The TDP and its supremo have been cursing the Congress for what they call most arbitrary bifurcation of the state. How can TDP join hands with Congress . But, the fact is that every political party except CPI(M) has supported the bifurcation. The united Andhra Pradesh would not have been divided without the active support of BJP. Yet, the TDP had electoral alliance with BJP in 2014. Still the voters did not mind as they were desperately looking for help from Centre and the BJP was poised to come to power in Delhi.

Similarly, the TDP now argues that the Congress is the only other alternate force to come to power at the Centre. The congress has already extended its full support for the demand for special category status. The Congress president Rahul Gandhi has personally favoured the idea.
The TDP leadership hopes that as the special status narrative fast replaces the bifurcation narrative, the voters would not mind its alliance with Congress. The Assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh are expected to herald Congress governments . If this happens, there is a possibility of favourable political climate for the Congress. The TDP hopes to exploit this to defend its possible electoral understanding with congress.

Meanwhile the TDP would immediately benefit from alliance with Congress in Telangana even as the political implication of such an understanding on the mandate in Andhra Pradesh is yet not clear. The TDP cannot survive in Telangana without any electoral alliances. The TDP has almost no choice except to tie up with the Congress.

The TDP is running a high decibel anti BJP campaign. As TRS moves closer to BJP, the TDP hopes to defend its alliance with Congress as a bid to isolate and defeat BJP

The anti Modi rhetoric would help TDP to claim that it would do anything and everything possible to halt or resist Modi juggernaut . In such a crusade, claims TDP even Congress is not an untouchable.

Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson election, stand of Telugu parties

0

Today is the election day for choosing Rajya Sabha deputy chairperson. Total strength of Rajya Sabha is 244 and 123 is the magic number. The post of the deputy chairperson had been lying vacant since June following the retirement of PJ Kurien. NDA’s candidate is Harivansh Narayan Singh for this post. Congress fielded, senior party leader B K Hariprasad for this. BJP has 73 members of its own, while the Congress has a strength of 50 members. TRS has 6 MPs, TDP has 6 MPs and YSRCP has 2 MPs.

TDP is supporting Congress candidate this time. After coming out of NDA, TDP is carefully planning its steps and in no situation it is supporting BJP. TRS got call from Nitish Kumar to support NDA candidate. TRS dilemma could be easily understood. He can’t support Congress as it is the main opposition party for him in Telangana. If it supports NDA, congress will slam him (KCR) as Modi’s pet.

YSRCP that supported NDA’s president candidate Ramnath Kovind also not supporting NDA’s candidate this time. YSRCP fans are blaming media for not highlighting this and arguing, had their party supported NDA they would have highlighted it and maligned their party image.

However, we will have to wait and see what the final decisions of these parties and whom their MPs will vote.
