KCR’s Dilemma: To Dilute and Not to Dilute the Cash-for-vote Case

0

Telangana chief minister K Chadrasekhar Rao is grappling with a Hamletian dilemma: to dilute the cash-for-vote (CFV) case or not, in order not to implicate his Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu in the case.

The central BJP is said to have advised him against going overboard on the case and vitiating the relations between the two states.

The advice, reportedly delivered to KCR through Governor ESL Narasimhan and some informal channels, if ignored, has the potential of shattering the dream of KCR to see his daughter and Nizambad Lok Sabha member Kavita in the union cabinet.

Though there has been no love lost between Telangana BJP and KCR, the central BJP is understood to have responded positively to the friendly vibes from the TRS recently. For quite some time TRS has been sending signals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amith Shah about its intension to join the NDA. KCR’s daughter, Kavita has gone on record that her party would have no objection to join NDA cabinet as it would help the nascent state get more assistance from the centre.  “If Prime Minister Modi invites me to join the cabinet we will consider it,” she told media some time back.

Highly placed sources in BJP told this correspondent that Modi was also not disinclined to take the TRS on board.

“The only hitch is TRS connections with MIM. We want the TRS to distance itself from MIM publicly to join the NDA government. The moment TRS jettisons the MIM, it is welcome to join the NDA cabinet,” informed BJP sources said.

TRS is not ready severe it relations with MIM before GHMC elections as it needs the support of Muslim minorities in Greater Hyderabad Municiapl Corporation (GHMC) area to win the election.  GHMC is the testing ground for TRS’ real influence in the capital where Andhra settlers outnumber the Telangana people. It was proven in 2014 Assembly elections when TRS ended up as poor third.  So, a defeat in GHMC elections would weaken his grip over the capital which in course of time undermine the chances of its return in 2019.

So, the TRS doesn’t want to antagonize Muslim minorities by jettisoning MIM before GHMC polls. It is said to have conveyed to BJP leadership in Delhi that it could not afford to do it  before GHMC elections. Though Kavita’s joining the cabinet has been put off for the time being, two parties are enjoy cordial relations.

Now, chief minister KCR has to choose between the BJP’s advice against implicating Naidu in CFV case or pursue his anti-Naidu politics and fall from grace of Prime Minister Modi. Pursuing latter course may put the dream of getting a cabinet berth for Kavita at risk.

Yellow Leaders’ Illogical Statements Put TDP at Stake

0

TDP leaders who are reacting on cash-for-vote scam are not only making statements that are confusing and contradictory but even funny at times.

It is known how Parakala Prabhakar and Yanamala Ramakrishnudu gave contradictory statements on the issue.

Then entered Chandrababu Naidu into the scene who said that KCR’s Government will fall if he’s arrested. This line not only sounded funny but illogical. While Telangana Government or KCR didn’t send any signals of arrest, it was Chandrababu who spoke his heart out with a national news channel.

Now, Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy went an extra mile and made a sensational statement that can apparently put party and him in serious trouble.

Taking on TRS party vehemently, Somireddy alleged that TRS was obstructing the bail of Revanth Reddy. How can a political party influence the court? Doesn’t he know that the Constitution of India facilitates independent and integrated judiciary? Is he trying create doubts among the people on the functioning of courts?—these are a few questions that are being discussed among lawyers who gather at tea stalls outside courts.

Legal experts said that Somireddy can face Contempt of Court for his alleged statements that are rival on the electronic media.

Congress Vie for Top Slot as War of Words Worsen

0

When two persons cross swords, it will undoubtedly become a great weapon to their common opponent. The situation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh seems to be the same. While the chief ministers of Telugu speaking states are embroiled in war of words, the party that last ruled erstwhile Andhra Pradesh is playing a clever dice.

The recent statements of Raghuveera Reddy, V Hanumanth Rao and Shabbir Ali serve as shining examples to the above said hypothesis. It has to be mentioned here that Raghuveera Reddy recently tore the TDP manifesto. The matter of debate here is—why should he resort to such things after a year? While this question might not even hog the required light due to the heated arguments between the chief ministers, a careful examination at Congress actions will definitely make you pause and ponder.

Barely two days after Raghuveer’s strong comments, another leader from Congress– Shabbir Ali  is taking on Chandrababu Naidu demanding his resignation, stressing that NTR’s soul will be at peace in case Balakrishna is adorned as Andhra’s CM. He even lashed out at K Chandrashekar Rao and said that he would launch a movement against anti-farmer policies of KCR Government.

Sources said that Congress leaders apparently want to back on this issue and are reportedly discussing their strategies on attacking two political parties with a single sword. Will Congress emerge victorious in its attempt? Can it vie for top slot in two states? Let us wait and watch as Rahul Gandhi is likely to tour Andhra Pradesh this month.

Can Babu Question Media of its Sources?-A Comprehensive Report

0

With the Anti Coruption Bureau’s probe into alleged cash-for-vote is looming large to TDP, its supremo and chief minister of Andhra Pradesh Chandrababu Naidu is time and again questioning the media of its sources—the medium through which the alleged sting operation went viral.

In an effort to defend the image of the party-whose MLA is arrested-TDP is launching a scathing attack on the media by asking as to how the media has been getting the sources.

It is a known fact that ‘press/journalism’ is considered as a fourth estate-one of the foundations-of any democratic country. Media- print, electronic and new-has always been shouldering a higher responsibility, not just in India, anywhere across the country for that matter.

In an effort to fulfill its responsibility, it undoubtedly becomes a ‘watch dog,’ to highlight whatsoever matter it feels harmful to the democratic system and presents before the public of the country for their judgment.

Media sources:

Media will have its sources in almost all government offices and none can deny it. Sometimes, such source can be a tea vendor and at times a top official. None has the authority to question the media from where it has got the sources, as per the prevailing international laws.

What happened in Watergate Scandal?

The infamous Watergate Scandal-occurred in the United States in mid 1970s-witnessed the involvement of the then US President Richard Nixon in break-in of DNC headquarters at Watergate complex.

When five burglars were caught by the-Federal Bureau of Investigation-along with the cash, the then president Nixon who was involved in the entire episode, denied to face the investigation.

In meantime, two reporters of Washington Post –Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodword-exposed the entire episode with complete details. They got the information from the then associate director of US Federal Bureau of Investigation Mark Felt under the nickname Deepthroat.

The US authorities never questioned Bernstein and Woodword as to who their source (Deepthroat) was.  They never went into the depth of media sources.

The world, however, came to know about the source when Mark Felt himself revealed that he was the source in Watergate Scandal in 2005.

Resignation of Nixon as US President:

Owing to the in-depth reports-with required proofs-of Washington Post, Richard Nixon stepped down as the president of the United States of America on August 8, 1974.

International Law:

The USA and South America have made an Inter-American declaration of principles of Freedom of Expression. According to Principle 8 of the declaration, media has the right to keep its sources confidential.

While Africa and others adopted similar principles to protect ‘Freedom of Press,’ European Court of Human Rights observed that protection of ‘media sources,’ was a key requisite of a democratic country in the case ‘Goodwin v UK,’ in 1996.

Although Indian media doesn’t enjoy such absolute privilege, just like how Goodwin v UK granted absolute Freedom of Press to Europe, any counter-action by the media v Chandrababu Naidu can result in similar declarations.

Naidu: T- Govt Will Fall if KCR Tries Arrest Me

0

Naidu  warned that TRS government would not survive a minute if he was implicated in the cash-vote-case and arrested.

He told this to a national news channel in Delhi.

According to the NDTV, which interviewed him, Naidu said, “if he (KCR) does like that (tries to arrest me), it will be the last day for his government.”

Naidu said the tapes and conversation in the tapes were doctored and accused that KCR was using fabricated tapes and the police to intimidate him and his party legislators.

Naidu  is in Delhi on a two-day tour to seek centre’s intervention in containing T-CM  Chandrasekhar Rao’s enthusiasm in tapping telephones.

Who is Naidu’s ‘Panneerselvam’ ?

0

Humor at critical times outwardly looks jarring. Critical times are no laughing stuff. It warrants all serious contemplation. The general understanding is that one must sympathize with the person involved in troubles.

It’s critical time for chief minister Naidu for he finds himself in a mess of his own making- the cash-for-vote. The sordid drama made the joy of performing the Bhumi Puja for ‘world class ‘capital for Andhra Pradesh short lived.

The sword of being summoned by T-ACB is hanging above his head. Chances of his name appearing in the FIR look bright. He is knocking at the doors of Centre for help. A critical moment for Naidu, indeed.

But comedians too take their art seriously. They argue that comedy or humor is not time out from real life, rather it is part of the life, critical or otherwise. Comedy, as it springs out of life, expresses a stubborn refusal to cave in under the weight of hard times.

This correspondent happened to witness such a comic scene seriously enacted by some TDP leaders this morning.

A couple of senior TDP leaders, who hold important positions in the government, are seriously discussing who could be ‘Panneerselvam’ of Chandrababu Naidu.

Panneerselvam is the guy whom AIADMK Jayalalitha appointed chief minister when she had to resign on moral grounds following the court convictions. Panneerselvam is embodiment of loyalty in Indian politics.

The point in the debate of TDP leaders is that what if Naidu steps down following his implication in the cash-for-vote case by Telangana government.

There has already been speculation among the well-wishers of Naidu that Lokesh is the best bet.

They are sure that Naidu would not stay a minute on throne if his name is included as accused.

According to an ardent supporter, he would not only step down, but also vacate Kuppam assembly seat to do electoral Agnipravesham and to reemerge blame-free like Sita of yore.

They are sure that this all will happen in case Naidu’s trip to Delhi does not produce any way out.

YSRC Lashes Out at Chandrababu, Demands Resignation

0

The cash-for-vote scam is now becoming a powerful tool for the opposition YSRC in Andhra Pradesh. The leader of opposition in Andhra Pradesh assembly, YS Jagan shifted his base to the national capital on Friday.

He has reportedly met the key leaders on Tuesday and is set to meet a few more, including the union home minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday evening.

Jagan has been reportedly appealing to the Centre that Chandrababu Naidu be made accused number one (A-1) in cash-for-vote scam.

Briefing the media post meeting, Jagan questioned as to why no action has not been taken on Chandrababu Naidu despite strong evidence supporting his involvement in the bribery case.

He went on to say that the media and people of the nation should come together to fight this issue. He further questioned as to how much money would be involved in the entire episode.

Jagan even demanded that Chandrababu Naidu, owing to these allegations should resign as the chief minister, and in case if he doesn’t resign he must be forced to do so.

Lok Satta party chief, Jayaprakash Narayan too responded to the issue and questioned if Chandrababu Naidu would resign in case it’s ascertained the voice on record was that of Babu.

It looks like YSRC got a strong reason to bank on this alleged scam even in the next general elections.

Mysteries Surrounding Babu’s ‘Alleged Phone Tapping’

0

With AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu taking up the alleged phone tapping before the Centre, the Telangana government clarified that no such stints were involved in this cash-for-vote scam.

On Tuesday alone, at least nine ministers of Telangana government reiterated that they didn’t resort to phone tapping.

Even as the Anti Corruption Bureau is being blamed over the investigation procedures, ACB chief A K Khan plunged into the scene and briefed the media that the investigation in cash-for-vote was done as per their protocol, involving professionals.

It is known that the police has no authority to leak any of the substantial evidences to the media when the matter is prejudice and ACB too clearly said that they didn’t tap the phone. The question of leaking them to the media, therefore, doesn’t arise, opined political  observers.

So, it is evident that the police in this particular alleged tape episode is on a safe land. Who is at blame? Whether telephone line was really tapped or is it a clever play of Stephenson?

Here are some possibilities as to how this conversation was recorded, according to the experts.

Stephenson, the nominated MLA to the Telangana government, approached ACB and submitted a written complaint to the bureau that he was being lured for MLC vote.

As a part of the same, police-based on the written complaint-can presumably tap the telephone calls of Stephenson. While ACB is stressing that chief minister’s phone is not tapped, it is not clarifying anything about tapping Stephenson’s calls.

Also, it must be mentioned here that smart phones in today’s market have an option of auto-record. Apparently, there’s every chance of Stephenson recording Babu’s conversation on his mobile phone and handing it to TRS (his party).

All in all, if Chandrababu Naidu is really convinced that his phone lines are tapped, he has every right to move the court. However, his arguments in public-as to how can chief minister’s phone be tapped-are not acceptable, for the Constitution of India guarantees no separate law for a chief minister.

Raghuveera Slams Chandrababu, Tears TDP Manifesto

0

Congress senior leader and former minister  for agriculture in erstwhile Andhra Pradesh, Raghuveera Reddy has made scathing remarks against Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu today as the latter is all decked up for ‘mahasankalpam,’ public meeting in Vijayawada.
Raghuveera Reddy, who tore the election manifesto released by TDP, at the time of elections last year, has said that TDP failed to fulfill 600 promises that it made before coming to power. Expressing his anguish over TDP rule, Raghuveera pointed out that Babu never granted any houses to the poor people.
On the contrary, he (Chandrababu Naidu) is renovating his own house, alleged Raghuveera Reddy. Chandrababu Naidu was setting up his camp office with a budget of three crore rupees, he added. He further said that TDP Government scrapped 12 lakh pensions in Andhra Pradesh.
A day after Botsa Satyanarayana jumped to YSRCP, it surprising that Congress leader Raghuveera, lashing out at Babu instead of taking on Botsa is apparently giving raise to new questions on Congress party’s strategy in Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana CM in Soup? Defamation Suits Filed in AP

0

Barely a day after Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s alleged tapes went viral on the electronic media, TDP cadre plunged into action. Several FIRs have reportedly been filed against Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekara Rao for allegedly defaming their party supremo and chief minister. The first report is presumably filed at Vijayawada, the city where Babu is scheduled to hold a massive public meeting.

It is known that Andhra Pradesh Government’s media advisor Parakala Prabhakar said they (the government) would see an end. It now looks like the dramatic changes that are being taking place in AP are first action measures.

Also, the TDP cadre is alleging that any official, who requires to tap telephonic conversations, need to seek the permission of the Centre, which didn’t take place in this particular place. How KCR is going to come down on these reactions is now a million dollar question.

0

HYDERABAD: Congress key leader, Botsa Satyanarayana resigned to Congress party and took membership of YSRCP on Sunday in the presence of its supremo YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Botsa Satyanarana, who held key posts when Congress formed government in the state, and even became PCC chief twice. Speaking about the need to shift to YSRCP, Botsa said this was the only political party that is an alternative to TDP in Andhra Pradesh. He even said that Congress didn’t deceive him in any way.

Speaking to the media post the joining formalities, Botsa said that TDP was damaging the future of the state. Also, he said that Babu was concentrating on urban development alone and ignoring the development of backward district–Vizianagaram. He even said  it can be presumed that all Vizianagaram Congress cadre joined YSRCP.

Babu Lays Foundation Stone for AP Capital

0

The Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has today laid foundation stone for Andhra Pradesh Capital formation in Amaravati.

Despite heavy criticism from the political parties over the recent alleged corruption row of Telangana TDP MLA Revanth Reddy, the party supreme doesn’t seem to defer any of his plans.

Speaking about the new capital of the residuary Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu said that he would make the capital an outstanding one in the world that would be on par with Singapore.

It may be recalled that Mr Naidu along with TDP delegation earlier visited Singapore and reportedly observed the designs of some key buildings.

Babu even hailed the farmers who came forward and gave away their lands for the capital cause. He further said he would work for five days from Andhra Pradesh with an aim to build the elite capital city. Also, he urged the people of Andhra to extend their help for the same.

Taking pot shots at the Congress and the then UPA Government, the chief minister alleged that Congress went ahead with bifurcation of the state in a hush.

Meanwhile, Janasena Party, led by Pawan Kalyan came into the picture yet another time and demanded that the state be given special status with immediate effect. On the other hand, union minister Nirmala Seetharaman clarified that the Centre would extend all the required help in the formation of the capital city.

Briefing about the development of Hyderabad, Chandrababu Naidu said he brought recognition to the Nawabi city.

While the social media is apparently abuzz about Babu’s silence in Revanth Reddy’s episode, the chief minister remained tight lipped on the issue.

All in all, Mr Naidu seems to be giving top priority to capital city construction alone pushing aside some key issues and under development in the backward districts of Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.

It has to be mentioned here that it was due to Babu’s extra emphasis in the urban development brought Congress into limelight in 2004 in the residuary Andhra Pradesh. Whether Chandrababu Naidu is playing a safe dice this time or not remains to be a million dollar question.

Telugu CMs Cross Swords in Public

0

The cash-for-vote scam is now giving raise to war of words between Telugu chief ministers. With TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, in the status of the chief minister, warning his arch rival KCR that the matter would be escalated in case he opens his eyes, Telangana chief minister came down vehemently and said that even God couldn’t save him.
These remarks are now becoming topic of the town. Are there any underlined meanings or warnings behind these statements? The political experts in Telugu state are saying yes!
It is known that TDP is an ally of the ruling NDA Government at the Centre. Also, key leader from TDP is serving as the union minister too. By stating that the matter would be taken way ahead, the political experts opined that Chandrababu Naidu was hinting at the apparent possibilities of taking up the matter with the Indian prime minister.
The counter of K Chandrashekara Rao stressing that even Lord couldn’t save him can be regarded that prime minister Narendra Modi will not be of any help to Chandrababu Naidu in this entire episode, added experts.
Whatever the issue is, chief ministers crossing swords in public is undoubtedly not a good sign in the democratic set up. While Chandrababu Naidu should have reacted swiftly on Revanth Reddy’s episode, K Chandrashekara Rao should have not reacted to Babu’s comments.
All in all, as home minister Rajnath Singh reportedly said, an investigation should be taken up properly at a place that’s far away from sensationalism, it would be better if KCR remain silent and let the law take its course of action.
At the end, everyone is equal before law—Rule of Law. That’s the very essence of our constitution. Be it chief minister of whosoever, they can’t bank on their posts to escape investigations or is procedures as the Indian Constitution offers no immunity for any official in the matters pertaining to crime.

TDP amends party constitution for national status

0

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Wednesday amended its constitution, taking the first step towards attaining national party status.

With the party having presence in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana and looking to expand to other states, it amended the constitution to provide for a national framework.

A resolution to this effect was passed unanimously on the first day of the three-day ‘Mahanadu’ or annual conclave at Gandipet on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

The 34-year-old party dropped the word ‘Telugu Nadu’ and replaced it with India.

The amendments made in tune with the requirements also provided for a central committee and state presidents instead of one president.

The resolution was tabled after TDP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu addressed the conclave.

Naidu said this ‘Mahanadu’ was historic as it was the first after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.

The TDP is in power in Andhra Pradesh and is in opposition in Telangana.

Naidu said the party was planning to expand to other states.

“We are not only there in two states but can have presence in many as states as possible. We need to work out details,” he said.

The TDP chief said that with its credibility, the party can attain national status and play its role at the national level.

He said that in the last 34 years, the TDP despite being a regional party played a key role in national politics.

It was part of four out of five non-Congress governments at the Centre.

According to TDP sources, the party was trying to spread its wings to neighbouring states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka where a sizable number of Telugus reside.

The party already has a unit running in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
