Bumpy Road Ahead for Ramana in TS

0

It is a foregone conclusion that TDP and BJP will contest Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) polls in alliance at the end of the year against the alliance of TRS and MIM. Indicating the continuance of the existing alliance with BJP, TDP Telangana unit president L Ramana said the present understanding between the two parties would continue. ” TDP-BJP is a winning combination,” he said.

Talking to Telugu360.com , after the taking oath as the president of Telangana state unit, Ramana recalled that how the two parties had won the elections for Hyderabad civic body. “So, I am confident that it will be a cakewalk for TDP-BJP combine in ensuing GHMC polls, if the two parties join hands,” he said. Ramana represented Jagitya Assembly constituency and for some time he was handloom and textile minister. However, at the advice of Naidu, he contested Lok Sabha polls won the Karimnagar seat. Ramana revealed that it was he who had persuaded his party boss Naidu to align with the saffron party during the 2014 general polls.

“I was the first one to moot the proposal of alliance with BJP. I requested party chief N Chandrababu Naidu to forge an alliance with the BJP, before the 2014 polls. The TDP-BJP alliance worked well in those polls. Even in the GHMC polls, our alliance will be a winning hands down,” he said. Going down the memory line, Ramana said in the 2002 elections, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) had won the Mayor post in a direct election in alliance with Bharatiya Janata Party which took the Deputy Mayor’s post. In the election, Ramana said, Majlis Ittehadul-e-Muslimeen (MIM) won 36 out of the 100 seats while TDP-BJP combine won 38 seats. Congress won 20. Of the remaining parties, Telangana Rashtra Samiti and Majlis Bachao Tehreek won two seats each while Telangana Sadhana Samiti won one seat.

Coming from weavers community Karimnagar district, it will be an uphill task for Ramana to keep the yellow flag fly aloft given the TRS influence in the district. The soft-spoke Ramana has a non-controversial back ground which is not so a great virtue in days of money and muscle power. In a state where the TDP is being portrayed as the “Andhra Party”, rebuilding the Telugu Desam to expectations of party boss Chandrababu Naidu is not an easy task. But, a win in the GHMC election is bound to change fortunes of both the party and Ramana. Party’s working president Revanth and Ramana will supplement each other in what they amiss.

Naidu assumes office as TDP national president

0

TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu set the target for the newly appointed state and central committees of winning the 2019 elections in both the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states. On Sunday Naidu assumed office as the president of the national committee of Telugu Desam Party. In a program organized here in NTR Trust Bhavan, the party headquarters, Naidu administered oath of office to the members of recently appointed party committees with a call to retaining power in Andhra Pradesh and forming the government in Telangana state by winning the mandate in 2019 elections.

Members of the national committee, including his son Nara Lokesh, who is appointed general secretary in charge of organization, those of the State Committees of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were administered the oath by Naidu before a huge gathering of party cadre and leaders of AP and TS.AP party president Kala Venkata Rao and Telangana unit president L Ramana were also administered oath.
Reminding the party leaders of the changed political scenario, which led to the creation of central committee and its importance, Naidu recalled how party founder NT Rama Rao created history in the country by bringing the TDP to power within nine months of forming the party on the plank of Telugu Pride and self-respect.

Naidu also narrated how NTR brought together the non-Congress parties in the country and formed the National Front which catapulted the TDP into a major player in national politics which later gave birth to United Frond and later NDA. Naidu called upon the leadership in both the States to respond to the problems faced by people and stressed on the need for taking Centre’s help in resolving them. “As a responsible opposition party in Telangana, the TDP will wage an uncompromising fight on behalf of the people,” Naidu assured.

Talking about the new committees, Naidu said, these committees were a mix of old and new faces, experience and freshness in the party. The Party president, however, cautioned each member’s performance would be monitored and evaluated and a progress report given every three months. “It will improve efficiency and make them serve people better”, he added.

TDP plans to enter Odisha after Andamans

0

TDP is planning to use it’s Andhra Pradesh president Kimidi Kalavenkatrao’s cotacts in Odisha to make inroads into Odisha where sizeable chunk of Telugu population lives. After winning the two wards in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the party is planning to spread it’s wings in Telugu areas of neighboring states like Karnataka, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Now the appointment of Kalavenkatrao has come handy for the party as he hails from North Coastal Andhra. He has good contacts with Telugu areas of Odisha state.

Party leaders from North Coastal Andhra are suggesting TDP national president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to think of entering Odisha. Over 30 lakh Telugu-speaking people live in areas such as Chatrapur, Berhampur, Parlakhemundi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur and Jeypore in Odisha. Senior TDP leader Gorle Haribabu Naidu on Friday urged TDP national president Chandrababu Naidu to look into the possibility of expanding to Odisha, by setting up local TDP committees. “There is vast scope for TDP to expand into Odisha and win some seats if the party contests next election,” he said.

He said TDP Andhra Pradesh state committee president Kala Venkata Rao had contacts with several public representatives in Odisha and his influence can be used for the benefit of the party. TDP said the party happens to be strong in Srikakulam district with the support of settlers from Odisha this would work in the Telugu areas of Odisha in favor of Telugu Desam party. “TDP will have a national outlook if it has the presence in Odisha, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar,” state vice-president PV Ramana and general secretary Sriakkulam Boina Govinda Rajulu said.

The party leaders said influential parties in Odisha may join hands with the TDP to win the support of Telugu people in several constituencies.

Purandeswari asks Naidu to stop acquiring farm lands

0

On the day Nara family’s take-over of Telugu Desam party from NTR family was complete with the elevation of Lokesh to the rank of general secretary of the party, NTR’s daughter D Purandeswari upped the ante against the TDP government. Purandewari, who is also BJP Mahila Morach in -charge, announced her opposition to the acquisition of fertile agricultural lands for setting up industries during her visit to in Pedana, Krishna district yesterday.

In no uncertain terms, the scion of NTR , who distanced Naidu’s TDP politics 15 years back, said taking the fertile lands in Machilipatnam (Bandar) area for the development of deep water port and associated industrial corridor was unfair. Pedana also falls in the danger zone of Naidu grandiose plan of Bandar Port development plan. Expressing surprise at the huge land bank being created by the state government with farm lands, she also, demanded Telugu Desam government to release a white paper on the lands acquired so far, plans to acquire more land in future along the with their fertile strength.

On Wednesday, local BJP of Pedana, organized a program to felicitate her on her visit to the town of Kalankari art. Many farmers met her and poured over their woes before her. She said she was especially opposed to the state government’s move to acquire thousands of acres of fertile land for the proposed Machilipatnam deep-sea port and port-based industries. Purandeswari, who was HRD minister in pervious UPA government, said she would soon meet farmers, who were facing the threat of eviction due to the proposed land acquisition in Machilipatnam and Pedana mandals in Krishna district.

She demanded that the government could acquire barren land to create a land bank.

The senior BJP leader demanded a white paper be released giving a clear picture on how much land acquired and how it would utilize the land acquired by it. She opined that if acquisition of agriculture lands continued, it would affect the food security in future, in view of the population of the growth of the country.

This is the second the BJP tried to embarrass the its ally TDP in the state in the past ten days. Last week, after a visit to Polavarm project, BJP Andhra Pradesh president K Haribabu said not a pie had been spent on the polavarm project by TDP government. ” TDP asking centre to reimburse Rs 1900 crore spent on Polavarm project, is unfair, as there was no physical progress on the project. Government should demonstrate its commitment to the complete the Polavaram project with the same commitment which it showed on Pattiseema project,” Haraibabu said.

Jagan predicts fall of TDP govt soon

0

Opposition leader and YSRC president YS Jaganmohan Reddy again predicted the fall of TDP government very soon. “The government’s days are numbered. There will be elections soon and the TDP will be bundled into the Bay of Bengal,” Jagan said in a gathering of farmers in Tanguturu, Prakasam district. Jagan was in the town to have a look at the tobacco auctions and console the families of tobacco farmers who committed suicide due to non-remunerative prices.

Had Chandrababu been pro-active, he added, the tobacco farmers would not be in dire straits. Reminding the assurance of Naidu that the low grade tobacco would be purchased at Rs 67, Jagan demanded Chandrababu keep his word on the tobacco price. Strongly demanding that the government come to the rescue of the tobacco farmers in the state, Jagan said TDP government had become insensitive to farmers problems.

Blaming the TD P government for the crisis the tobacco farmers were in, he said, the auction should have started in at January and ended in June. “But, now the tobacco auction is still on. If the tobacco is kept for a longer period and particularly during the monsoon, it tends to lose color due increase of moisture content resulting in lesser price,” he said. He called upon the farmers to fight and bring the government to its knees.

Leadership transition set in motion in TDP

0

Setting in motion the long pending transition in the party, 65 year old TDP supremo Chandrababau Naidu today appointed his son Nara Lokesh as the general secretary of the national committee. As a general secretary he is also made exofficio member in the politiburo, the highest policy making body of the party. With these appointments, Lokesh is expected to get unusual access to the party high-level meetings.

Following the bifurcation of the state Andhra Pradesh, Telugu Desam party is planning to become a national party by expanding its network outside the successor states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.Once it becomes a national party, there would be increased interactions at national level warranting appointment of a suitable leader, who can articulate TDP ideology in English, if not in Hindi. Now, the responsibility will fall on Lokesh, a Harvard business administration graduate.

Even though Lokesh is just in-charge of party workers welfare trust, he has been playing important role in the network building of the party. The role he is playing in internal matters of the party reminds one the role Chandrabababu Naidu played during the time when NT Ramarao was the chief minister in 1980s. By working as coordinator of the party, Chandrababu Naidu took the entire party under his command in such a way that it made the coup in 1994 against NT Ramarao a smooth affair. in the past twenty years, Naidu used to deal himself with party internal affairs. He did not delegate the party internal organization work to any leader in the party.

Now, as chief minister , he is embarked on massive project of building the world-class capital city, Chandrababu is compelled to promote Jr.Naidu as the leader of the party slowly. In party affairs and governmental affairs Naidu doesn’t take anybody into confidence. One can see this in his style of negotiating with the Singapore with regard to the capital construction. Every crucial decision is taken by Naidu alone. He is ensuring his presence in every round of talks with Singapore. Normally, heads of the government, after signing the MoU, leave the matter to the senior officials and experts. No head of the state wishes to participate in the every round of talks with other governments. In the case of TDP government, as far as the capital city is concerned, nobody matters in the state government except chief minister Chandrababu Naidu. So, he is forced to promote his heir apparent to take care of the party affairs.

In the recent extended meeting of the party held in Vijayawada, senior leader Kimidi Kala venkata Rao suggested to Naidu that Lokesh be appointed general secretary of the party. Now, Kala venkata Rao is appointed Andhra Pradesh TDP president and Lokesh general secretary of the party.

For the past few months Lokesh has been going around the state inaugurating training camps for the party workers. He addressed youth and students. As the culmination of these program, the made public the assets owned by his family and family owned Heritage food. From now onwards, as general secretary of the party, he will play an extraordinary role in the party affairs. This appointment has catapulted him to the top slot in the organization. This is will pave the way for his take over from his father Naidu in 2019 by which time Naidu will be nearing 70. Party sources say after 2019 depending upon the political situation, Naidu may switch over to national politics like Mulayam Singh of Uttar Pradesh. Once the capital project takes off, the hype created by Amaravati would help the TDP sweep polls which eventually lead to the anointment of Lokesh as leader TDLP as it happened in the case of Akhilesh Yadav in Lucknow- this is the master plan of Naidu according to sources in TDP.

Naidu visits Singapore URA Gallery

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu today visited Singapore City Gallery which is popular as Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA)gallery. He was so impressed by the gallery, he is said to have instructed officials to explore the possibility of setting up such a gallery for Amaravati showcasing its long history up till now, when farmers in thousands came forward to offer their lands for the construction of the capital.

Singapore City Gallery was established in 1999, and is managed by URA, a statutory board under the ministry National Development, whose role is to plan and facilitate Singapore’s long term land use and physical development. Close to 200,000 people visit the gallery annually.

The Gallery showcases Singapore’s philosophy behind physical transformation of the city in the last 40 years to become “one of the most liveable cities in Asia. It also aims to explain how “forward-looking, long-term and integrated land use planning and partnership between private and public sectors is achieved” in Singapore. The Gallery also presents “creative solutions to balancing different competing needs, the life, work, play opportunities, extensive conservation efforts and urban design strategies to create a more distinctive Singapore.

‘Stop Pattiseema & complete Polavaram’

0

Stating that there was an urgency to supply water to Rayalaseema, YSR Congress demanded the TDP government to put the Pattiseema on hold and complete the Polavaramp project on war-footing. The party asked the TDP to stop deceiving people and dubbed the Pattiseema project as fraud and the interlinking of rivers was fake.

‘Inter-linking of rivers through Pattiseema is a waste of public money and it does not serve the intended purpose with faulty workmanship and we demand the government to expedite Polavaram which will benefit the people of Rayalaseema and Krishna delta,’ party spokesperson Perni Nani said here on Monday.

Though the project was declared open, the pattiseema is not linking the rivers as the work on aqueducts seems to be semi-finished.

‘It is only a showmanship but in reality there is hardly any benefit from the Pattiseema project while the benefits of Polavaram are permanent in nature which is why YSR has put in major efforts to bring the project to a take off stage,” Nani said.

‘We demand that Pattiseema should be put on hold and Polvaram should be taken up with all earnestness,’ he added.

Myths and realities of Godavari – Krishna Inter Linking : An expert’s view

1

[intro]Telugu360.com has requested former Chief Technical Adviser to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO/UN), Dr. S. Jeevananda Reddy, to present views on TDP Government’s much publicized inter linking of  Godavari – Krishna rivers  this week. In this guest essay he discusses about Polavaram, Pattiseema projects and Inter linking of rivers[/intro]

I did the inter-linking of Godavari River with Krishna River during 1964-69 on many occasions of my travel in train Guntur to Visakhapatnam via Vijayawada to Rajahmundry. I used to fill Krishna water in a bottle at Vijayawada and put that water into Godavari at Rajahmundry and vice versa . I enjoyed this. Now i read a story (by Tanaya Singh in BetterIndia)which says that the TDP government is the first to inter-link the Godavari water with Krishna River. The story says the Godavari River water from Tadipudi lift irrigation was pumped in to Polavaram Right Canal and this reaches Krishna River Prakasam barrage. The TDP Government plan was to pump water of Godavari from Pattiseema lift irrigation project in to the Polavaram right canal to Krishna River.

Justice Bachawat Tribunal approved the inter-linking of Godavari River with Krishna River through Polavaram project [it is a multipurpose project with 960 MW of power production]. With this 80 TMC of surplus water in Krishna River basin becomes allotted water. In this AP share is 45 TMC. For Polavaram Project in 80s Chief Minister Anjaih laid the foundation stone but nothing moved afterwards. In 2004 Dr. Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy took over as Chief Minister of the State. He started the work [got most of the necessary approvals] including first phase of rehabilitation and right left canals excavation before his death. Dr. YSR’s government released excellent R & R Package. As part of this, Pulichintala project was initiated [I was a member of the CFE committee in APPCB which cleared the project – three collectors agreed with my proposal to give land to land for displaced]. If Dr. YSR would have been alive this project would have been completed and Rayalaseema would have benefited from the inter-linking of Godavari with Krishna. Here the water moves through gravity from Godavari to Krishna, which is real inter-linking of rivers.

Now present TDP Chief Minister says, he laid foundation stone to Tadipudi lift irrigation project so, it is his baby [inter-linking]. Unfortunately, NTR laid foundation stones for several projects but none of them started work. The Present TDP Chief Minister also laid second time foundation stones where NTR laid the foundation stones prior to 2004. With this we lost the flood water use from Krishna basin [8 projects]. All these projects were proposed in Congress time in 70s-80s only. TDP rulers simply laid foundation stones. Under Jalayagnam Dr. YSR initiated all the projects [proposed in 80s] by giving funds. Now, TDP government says, though they abused on Jalayagnam projects now they claim Tadipudi lift irrigation project is their own, so they own the inter-linking of the rivers.

A report in Andhra Jyothi, 20 June 2014 state that in Telangana under Jalayagnam 25 projects were initiated to irrigate 22,77,416 acres at a cost of about Rs. 21,506 crores. So far around 14,321 crores were spent on them. After Dr. Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy death in 2009, the later governments failed to speeding up the construction activity as: if they are completed the benefit goes to Dr. Y. S. Rajashekara Reddy. To complete the projects around Rs. 11, 440 crores are needed in which original estimate is Rs. 7,185 crores plus an addition of Rs. 4,255 crores [escalation costs]. However, the new government is playing politics and wanted to change the projects. Some of them are nearly completed. These projects include under Krihna River as well Godavari River. One of the major projects initiated on Godavari River is Pranahita-Chevella project that is expected to meet the drinking and irrigation needs in 7 districts out of ten districts of Telangana and thus bring down the cost of water grid project initiated at Rs. 40,000 crores.

Have you seen the water that flowed from Tadipudi lift irrigation project built by Dr. YSR government in to Polavaram right canal which was built by Dr. YSR government – it is a muddy water [irrigation minister & TDP leaders have a dip in that water] pumped in to mud canal [TV channel showed this – water flow cutting the banks and carrying red sandy soil with it and will deposit it in to Krishna River].

Tanaya Singh says in the write up the Pattiseema project is meant to supply water to Rayalaseema. May be the writer has no knowledge on the Rayalaseema projects and Pothireddypadu head regulator are not yet finished after Dr. YSR death – everybody is afraid that these are completed Dr. YSR will get the credit.

TDP leader including NTR were never interested to take up irrigation projects due to regional politics. NTR completed Telugu Ganga project with most of the money was given by Tamil Nadu Government to take drinking water to Chennai – but on the day of opening the canal breeched submerging vast cropped lands in Rayalaseema.

Inter-linking of Rivers – by definition, the water from One River joins another river through gravity. Lift irrigation does not come under inter-linking of the rivers as the flow water will not connect the two rivers. So, water taken from Godavari through Tadipudi or Pattiseema through lift irrigation will not connect the two rivers through water flow. Unfortunately no irrigation expert says this is not a inter-linking of rivers. This is our political experts!!!

Tadipudi was built by Dr. YSR government and Polavaram Right Canal was excavated by Dr. YSR government. TDP government simply lofted water from Tadipudi and put in to Right Canal. So, the credit of inter-linking [?] as propagated goes to Dr. YSR and not to TDP government. Tadipudi water is meant for Godavari district and not for Krishna district.

Pattiseema lift irrigation project – it is meant to serve the real estate interests in the new capital city only and not to take water to Rayalaseema. Rayalaseema get water only by completing the pending works on projects in Rayalaseema and Polavaram.

BJP wants Pattiseema to be named after Chandrababu

0

Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday turned tables on YSRCP Congress by asking the party to state whether it would support the Pattiseema project or not. So far, YSRCP has been posing the irksome question to chief minister Naidu to tell the people whether he was supporting the special status of not.

Today, state assembly took up Pattiseema Project issue for the debate. As the opposition leader Jagan was away in Pulivendula to participate in death anniversary of YS Rasekhar Reddy, deputy leader J Nehru spoke on the subject. Elaborating on the benefits of Pattiseema project, being taken up on Godavari, Naidu said the project was meant to divert Krishna water to Rayalaseema, which is a drought prone area.
“We want transfer 80 TMC Godavari water to Krishna barrage. The water thus saved in Krishna will be transferred to Rayalaseema. Now tell if you are opposed to taking water to Rayalaseema which was the objective of Pattiseema, or not,” Naidu asked and wanted straight answer.

YSR Congress leader Jyothula Nehru found difficult to answer in clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’ . He said his party was not opposed to linking of the rivers, but they were opposed to the way the project was being implemented. “We are opposed to the motive behind the construction of Pattiseema when Polavaram was to be taken up with more benefits. Pattiseema is not a irrigation project, but a money spinning project,” he said.

BJP floor leader, Vishnukumar Raju, who normally used to take critical stand against TDP on many issues, this time, became cheerleader of chief minister Naidu. He said as a civil engineer he knew more about Pattiseema than Nehru. ” It is amazing that the state government is able to finish the project in just eight months and one should appreciate the efforts of chief minister Naidu. Going an extra mile, he suggested to the house that the project should be named as “Chandranna Pattiseema scheme” to the cheers from the treasury benches.

Then Nehru described the BJP as the tail of TDP, which was objected to by Raju stating, BJP could cut tails of YSRCP if it wants. Chief minister also defended BJP stating that it was a national party and there was nothing wrong in Raju’s appreciation of TDP’s work.

YSRC adjournment motion disallowed

0

speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao disallowed the adjournment motion submitted by YSRCP on issue of special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The party wanted suspension of all the business and take up the issue and pass a resolution demanding the centre to bestow special status on AP.

The YSRC members trouped into the well and surrounded the Speaker’s podium demanding taking up of the motion. They raised slogans, displayed placards. Disallowing the motion, the speaker said the government was ready to make a statement on the issue and it would be followed by a discussion and a resolution also. “The adjournment motion has been disallowed. Your are not supposed to raise the demand again in the house and stall the proceedings. Mr Jagan, please ask your members to take their seats,” speaker said adding that a government statement was very much on the agenda.

Legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu appealed to the Opposition benches to cooperate with the government as it was ready to take up the matter as per agenda, agreed upon in the business advisory committee this morning. Jagan said the statement was a ploy to avoid the debate. “Why is the house taking up question hour after 12 instead of taking up the adjournment motion?” Jagan asked stating the statement of chief minister was only a ploy to avoid the debate.

TDP – BJP clash expected for Warangal seat

0

In an embarrassment to BJP, this time round Telugu Desam party, which smells anti-incumbency generating in Telangana state, wants to field its candidate from Warangal Lok Sabha constituency in the ensuing by-election , wresting the seat from its NDA ally. The party leaders are of the view that the chances of winning the bypolls have become brighter due to the anti-people policies of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Spiraling prices, growing opposition the cheap liquor promotion in the state, and corruption in the irrigation projects, inability to address the unemployment problem, failure in honoring loan waiver fully etc, the TDP thinks would work in its favor. So, the party, wants to field its candidate, to send at least one TDP MP from Telangana state to Lok Sabha. So, all TDP Telangana leaders are putting pressure on party president Chandrababu Naidu to take back the seat from Bharatiya Janata party.

In 2014 elections, following the electoral understanding between the BJP and TDP, the cycle party left the seat to BJP, which fielded Parameshwar Ramagalla against TRS candidate Kadiyam Srihari. While Congress fielded sitting MP Sircilla Rajaiah. The, BJP however, ended up poor third, despite Modi wave. Not to take chances, TDP wants to wrest the seat from BJP for the byelection to be held soon.

BJP sources told Telugu 360. com that no decision had been taken on the Warangal constituency stating the constituency is allotted to BJP. BJP argument is like this:

” The Warangal is going to bypoll due to resignation of Kadiyam Srihari. The constituency is given to BJP as part of alliance between TDP and BJP. As the election is part of the present LoK Sabha, insisting on taking back the seat is unfair.” BJP sources did not agree with TDP argument that the situation was conducive to TDP.

“This is wrong. It’s true that anti-incumbency is gaining ground against TRS government . That it works out in favor of TDP is a million dollar question. Because, the TD P image has been sullied in the cash-for-vote case. TDP should give handle to KCR to attack in by-polls. And by raising voice against TRS in the past 15 months, BJP indeed has become stronger. It would be better for TDP not to make it an issue,” the sources said. BJP sources refuse to be cited his name as the TDP had not made it intention public.

BJP turns the tables on TDP on Land Acquisition

0

In retaliation to the TDP’ attempt to put the blame on the BJP for Centre’s denial in according special category Status to AP, the saffron party is giving chief minister Naidu pinpricks over the ongoing land acquisition controversy in new capital development region in Guntur district.

The BJP has maintained honorable distance from the issue. It did not venture into defending the TDP’s attempt to build a world class capital when Janasena president Pawan Kalyan warned state government of serious consequences if it were to proceed on land acquisition, on Sunday.

The BJP leaders seems to have decided to adopt ‘wait and watch’ approach so that their party is not dragged into unwholesome controversy. While Andhra BJP leaders were silent, it was union minister Bandaru Dattatreya who pitched in to extend support to farmers’ rights.

“Acquiring lands for the construction of new capital is the State government’s responsibility. Hence, the TDP government should see that the farmers, who are surrendering their lands, are compensated adequately as per the Land Acquisition Act. They should also be rehabilitated at the earliest,” Bandaru Dattatreya said in Hyderabad.

He advised the TDP government against adopting hostile attitude towards the farmers, who are not able to reconcile to the fact that they are set to lose their multi-crop fertile agricultural lands for the sake of construction of the new capital in AP.

“The TDP government should try to convince the farmers to get their land willingly. The Centre is of the view that farmers should not suffer due to land acquisition. We want the State government to keep farmers interests in mind before taking away their lands,” Dattatreya said.

AP BJP leader Y Raghunadha Babu said though his party is in favor of constructing world class capital city for AP, it did not want the farmers to suffer.

“We would not keep calm, if the interests of the farmers are not taken care of while acquiring their lands for the capital city,” he warned when asked for a comment’

Talking to T-360 BJP state vice-president K Kapileswaraiah is also of the opinion that the TDP government should acquire only as much of land as is required for the construction of the capital city.

“TDP govt. spell out its stand on spl status”

0

Centre made it amply clear to YSR Congress that state doesn’t fulfill the criteria for according special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
Union ministry of industrial policy and development clarified this in a letter to party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

Stating this YSR Congress has demanded the TDP government to spell out its stand on the Special Status in wake of this, which clearly stated that the issue does not arise.

“In reply to the letter written by YS Jaganmohan Reddy to the Prime Minister on the special status, the department of industrial policy and development has replied that the package was already included and the State does not fulfill the criteria for getting any special incentives,’ Party MP Peddireddy Mithun Reddy said in Hyderabad Saturday.

The letter also said that industrial development is a state subject and the measures taken by the state will be supplemented on merits.

This clearly shows that there is no special package for the state and the industrial incentives cannot flow into the State.

This is time to assert ourselves and fight for the rights which YSR Congress is doing.
‘Where does TDP stand on the issue needs to be known,” he said.

Schemes ok MLAs are not : TDP Poor Score-card

0

The MLAs of ruling party, who enjoy enormous clout in the day to day administration and influencing the decisions at grass-root level have cut a sorry figure by scoring very poor marks for their performance. It is not known how serious the TDP supremo is about the progress reports he himself got prepared for the 175 MLAs of the party on their role in the implementation of all flagship programs of the government such as pensions, loan waiver, NTR vaidya seva etc. The progress reports have been given to the MLAs concerned in Saturday’s Telugu Desam Party’s extended meeting held in Vijayawada.

Over all, the the people are not happy with the MLAs, the survey conducted by the party president said. Only 33 PC MLAs have got good marks from the people while 23 per cent fared poorly with the people. Another 38 per cent received “not-bad” marks. The survey was conducted to know the people’s perception about the seven flagship programs of TDP government. After that subjects have been asked to reveal about their perception of the participation of the MLAs in the implementation of these programs.

Except Arogya Sri, schemes like loan-waiver to the farmers, and self-help group women did not find favor with the beneficiaries. Schemes-wise, the pension scheme scored well in the implementation by scoring 77 per cent approval while 17 per cent people were expressed their dissatisfaction. 70 per cent people are happy with the way the ration being supplied through the PDS system. Janma Bhumi committees have failed to fare well by getting a score of approval of just 38 per cent.

Much to the chagrin of CM chandrababu Naidu only 27 per cent beneficiaries have expressed satisfaction over the way the loan waiver was implemented. The people who were not happy with the scheme were 29 per cent. Similarly, the loan waiver to DWCRA fared poorly with the beneficiaries. About 34 per cent wowen were not happy with loan waiver while those satisfied with the scheme were a meager 27 per cent. The program touted as revolutionary by the government, the sand mining to SHG groups received miserable score with an approval rate of just 24 per cent. The approval rate of Arogyasri, renamed as NTR vydya seva got highest approval rate of 38 per cent.
It is not yet clear whether there was any column related to the performance of chief minister and other ministers. As the MLAs role is limited to the constituency only, it is important to know the rate of approval of the ministers and chief minister statewide.

Special Status : War Clouds Gather in Andhra Pradesh

0

The “special status’  is  generating too much heat in Andhra Pradesh. The remark of union planning minister Rao Inderjit Singh that no state was special, stirred up harnet’s nest in the state. political parties are sharpening their knives to attakc TDP and BJP. The BJP, however, is trying to distance itself from TDP on the issue stating Centre was ready to assist the state in every possible way in lieu of special status. For BJP the special status is a settled matter. 14 th finance commission addressed it  and matter is fait accompli.

Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi, who visited the state last week and assured to the people that was ready to visit any place to fight for Special Status, on Saturday telephoned APCC president N Raghuvira Reddy to inform him that he would go to any extent to fight for special status to AP. He said all Congress MPs are meeting on Monday in New Delhi to prepare an action plan. Raghuvira Reddy said APCC would formulate its own action plan.

Even CPM also pitched in. Senior leader Prakash Karat said CPM would fight for AP’s cause.
“Just because special status was UPA government’ commitment NDA is not supposed to deny the much wanted special status to AP. We will fight for it,” Karat said in Hyderabad.

Karat

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, who address party workers in Vijayawada today is said have opined that Andhra Pradesh which faced painful division should not be equated with other states for the application of general fund devolution formula.

Naidu

“Andhra Pradesh has been divided against our wishes. It was centre who thrust division on us. We were denied capital, revenue, water, power etc. To recover from the division A P needs special status. We want special treatment  from the centre. We will continue to put pressure on centre,” he told TDP extended meeting.

BJP however defended the union minister statement. Purandeswri, the rising star of BJP in Andhra firmament, said state’s requirements had already been taken care of by 14 th Fiance Commission. The 14 th Finance Commission had increased to devolution of funds to states up to 60 per cent to meet the growing requirements. And the centre was ready to extend all support to the AP, she told media in Vizag.

Capture

In menatime, Anantapur MP J C Diwakar Reddy, who is known for bizarre statements, today said in Vijayawada that chief minister knows it pretty well that the special status was not a realizable demand. “So, we are fighting to get more funds to state of Andhra pradesh,” he said rediculing Pawan Kalyan’s statement that TDP MPs were not doing enough on the demand.

Capture

“It seems he has a plan to hit the streets to get special status. We have staged dharnas in parliament, stalled the House and represented many union ministers. If Pawan Kalya is ready to lead us , we would  walk behind him,” he said in Vijayawada.

Naidu keen on wresting Warangal and Sanathangar

0

Notwithstanding the setback he has suffered in recent cash-for-vote (CFV) scam, AP CM Chandrababu Naidu is determined to take on ruling TRS in byelections to Warangal Lok Sabha and Sanathnagar Assembly constituencies. He asked the Telangana TDP leaders to get ready to face challenge and prove that TDP was the real alternative to TRS in new state. Warangal bypoll is necessitated by the resignation of Kadiam Srihari, who joined TRS cabinet, Santhanagar is sure to go to polls once the mystery  of resignation  by Talasani Srinvasa Yadava is resolved by the High Court.

In the backdrop of Congress’ heightened preparations for bypolls and the talk of Meira Kumar’s likely condidature from Warangal, on Wednesday,Naidu had summoned available Telangana leaders L Ramana, Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Aravind Kumar Goud and Krishna Yadav to his residence. He asked them to organize T-TDP general body meeting to discuss the strategy for Warangal byelection. Tentatively the meeting is scheduled on August 12. Naidu will also participate in the meeting. Naidu thinks that anti-incumbency in Telangana has been on the rise and KCR’s broken promises such as failure to come to the rescue of farmers, power shortage, steps like Osmania Hospital shifting, resentment among the students etc are enough to pull the rug under the feet of KCR in elections. As part of the strategy for elections, TDP leaders will up the ante against the TRS government by staging dharnas and organizing meetings regularly across the state including capital Hyderabad.

AP CM Naidu

Naidu discussed the elections to Sananthnagar and GHMC with city leaders Sayanna, Maganti Gopinath, Praash Goud, and Arikepudi Gandhi.

Aware that T-CM KCR would bank on the alleged involvement of Naidu in CFV to beat TDP in elections, the AP CM is readying the aresenal  to neutralize it by raising proven phone-tapping by TS government which he says illegal. While Telangana ACB has not conclusively demonstrated the role of Naidu, the  telephone-tapping by TS government is established truth. The cellular operators, who tapped the phone, in a petition in Supreme Court admitted to the tapping of phones. Later Supreme Court directed these companies to part with the call data in a sealed cover and furnish it to the trial court in Vijayawada. Now, the TRS government categorically informed to Hyderabad High Court that it did bug the phones, but was done lawfully. So Naidu wants to use this admission as a poll plank.

TDP stages Dharna “Drama” in Parliament

0

The problem of TDP in Parliament is that it is neither here nor there. Since the party is a partner in the Mody led NDA government it is not expected to shout like the Opposition in the parliament and rush into the well, at the same it can’t afford to remain silent when part-time politicians like Pavan Kalyan also started attacking it. This predicament of the party is making it butt of a joke even among the party MPs.

As if it is a reply to Pavan, who asked what were the TDP MPs doing parliament to get special status accorded to Andhra Pradesh, TDP MPs today staged a dharna demanding special category status to Andhra Pradesh.

The MPs led by Rajya Sabha MP CM Ramaesh demanded the implementation of all assurances given at the time of passage of Telangana Bill such as incentives to industries, grants to bridge the deficit created by loss of revenue of after bifurcation and granting the special category status .

Holding placards, the TDP MPs chanted slogans such as “grant of special category status” and “implement all promises made to successor state of Andhra Pradesh”.

The MPs finally ended up criticizing Congress for disrupting the house and  preventing TDP members from raising the special status issue in Parliament.

But, JC Diwakar Reddy cracked serous joke on the dharna.

The Ananatpur MP, who might have participated in a dharna probably for the first time in his political career, was not happy with party’s  perfunctory approach to these issues.

“This dharnas is staged perfunctorily,” he let the cat out of the bag.

” This dharna program has been taken up as a knee jerk reaction to Pavan Kalyan’s attacks. This won’t take you any where,” he revealed what is in his mind.

JC Brothers ko gussa kyon aata hai

0

Many leaders lost relevance after 2014 elections- some became irrelevant following their defeat while some following their defection. Popular as JC brothers, JC Divakar Reddy and JC Prabhakar Reddy, are not taken seriously in Telugu Desam party. Both switched over to TDP from Congress before the 2014 election. While Divakar Reddy won Anantapuramu Lok Sabha constituency, his brother Prabhakar Reddy Tadpatri Assembly segment. Their grip in local politics is pincer like. It is difficult to wrest the two seats from them, at least for the time being. For the first time, the brothers, find themselves powerless, despite being in a party that is in power. Diwakar Reddy used to say before elections that TDP would win 12 seats in district. It did. But, his contribution to victory is not credited to his account. One thing is true, the dusty town Tadapatri changed a lot during their heydays.

Naidu is also maintaining long distance from them. They also know what they are in TDP. Elder JC is not at all a visitor to NTR Trust Bhavan.

In Delhi, where any language other than Hindi is considered barbaric, Divakar Reddy doesn’t matter much. In TDP, unless you have the open endorsement of Big Boss, you are unwelcome in the corridors power. So, cynical has the Anantapuramu MP grown these days, he remarked, “MPs are being used as curry leaves. MPs, MLAs are sheer waste in this country. We don’t need any democracy. Who matters in Andhra politics in Delhi and Hyderabad? Prime Minister there, and chief minister here,” elder JC lamented some time back. They both are known for their off-beat and sensational comments. While elder JC spares none in his attacks including Modi and Governor.

Younger JC is always seen seething with anger. This time the target is Rahul Gandhi. Talking to media in his home town Tadpatri Monday, the angry MLA demanded that Rahul should first distribute ex-gratia to the families of farmers who committed suicide during Congress regime. “About 600 farmers committed suicide during the recent Congress rule in the district. Congress vice president should first console these families rather than harping on the suicides happened during TDP rule in the past one year,” he said.

Rahul is visiting Anantapuramu district to console the bereaved families tomorrow.

Prabhakar Reddy warned that, “We, along with family members of farmers who died, will stop Rahul Gandhi’s visit in 300 vehicles if he doesn’t first visit the families of those farmers who died when Congress was in power.”

Prabhakar Reddy is forgetting that during 10 year-rule of Congress, his brother was minister for some time and MLA for whole period.
