Will new KRMB chairman favour AP or TS?

1

While Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are engaged in a bitter water war over sharing of Krishna water for the past few weeks, MP Singh took over as new chairman of Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Wednesday.

SP Singh assumed office at a simple ceremony in Hyderabad.

SP Singh taking charge as new KRMB chairman triggered a debate in Telugu States whether he would favour AP or TS in the ongoing Krishna water dispute.

This is because, the previous KRMB chairman A Paramesham was accused of favouring Telangana.

The AP government even complained to Centre by writing letters alleging that Paramesham was favouring Telangana and sought a change of KRMB chairman.

Paramesham retired in May. The Centre made new appointment after more than a month.

SP Singh is facing a big challenge of holding meeting between TS and AP on July 9 to resolve Krishna water dispute. But TS government is demanding the postponement of July 9 meeting and hold it after July 20.

It remains to be seen what SP Singh will do now.

Five challenges before Revanth Reddy

1

Now that Revanth Reddy is set to take over as the PCC chief officially, he is sure to encounter several challenges en route. He carries youthful enthusiasm, derring-do and a charismatic approach. But, how he faces the challenges and steers the party through the troubles will decide his success or otherwise.

Here are the five big challenges that Revanth may soon face in the days to come:

CASH-FOR-VOTE CASE: Revanth Reddy comes with a baggage. He is an accused in the Cash for vote scam. While he was in the TDP, he was accused of trying to bribe Anglo-Indian MLA Stephenson to vote against the ruling TRS in an MLC election. The video clips and audio files of Revanth Reddy with Stephenson are in the public domain. The TRS government may try to rake up this issue. Now he is in the Congress, but the TDP vintage case might torment him.

PAST HISTORY OF PARTY-HOPPING: Both the BJP, TRS and his detractors in the Congress Party may try to pull out clips and comments from his past political avatars. They will use these to rile at Revanth Reddy. His earlier comments on Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi could be brought out of the closet. These will be of nuisance value for Revanth Reddy.

SENIOR PROBLEM: Tackling seniors would be a major issue for any PCC chief and more so for Revanth. Several senior Congress leaders are unhappy with the quick rise of Revanth Reddy. They would throw spanners in his work. The opposition could range from total non-cooperation to blatant opposition. Many could even lodge complaints with the high command against Revanth Reddy.

COVERTS IN CONGRESS: Handling coverts in the Congress would be a huge task for Revanth Reddy. There are several Congress leaders who have business and friendly relations with the TRS. They would leak information about their strategies and action plans to the TRS leaders, who could use the info to pre-empt him. How he handles them will decide his future performance as PCC chief.

HANDLING THE YOUTH: Living up to the expectations of the Congress Party’s young cadre is the fifth big challenge for Revanth Reddy. His biggest support comes from this sector and if Revanth gets bogged down in running the party, handling the seniors and patching up the warring groups, he would end up going the way of the past presidents. His term too would become insipid.

KTR praises Sonu Sood for social service activities

0

Telangana Minister for Industry and Information Technology, K.T. Rama Rao, on Tuesday appreciated actor Sonu Sood’s social service activities, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The actor called on the minister at his office at Pragati Bhavan, the official residence of Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, discussed with Sonu Sood the various works taken up by him in response to the calls received from people from across the country.

The minister told Sood that he emerged as a hope for many people in distress during the pandemic.

The actor briefed KTR on the works undertaken by him and his plans to expand the social service activities. He told the minister that he launched the social service work with inspiration from his mother. He also shared with the minister his views about Hyderabad and its people.

Sood was all praise for KTR for lending help to the needy during the pandemic. He said he was impressed the way the minister responded to people’s requests over Twitter for help.

After the meeting, the minister hosted a lunch for the actor and felicitated him with a shawl and a memento.

Last month, KTR had called Sood a real superhero. When someone, who received help from the minister, thanked him and called him a real superhero, he replied that he is just an elected representative.

“I am just an elected public representative doing my bit brother. You can call Sonu Sood a superhero for sure,” KTR had tweeted.

Sood too had responded to KTR on the microblogging site, calling the minister a hero.

“Thank you so much sir for your kind words! But you are truly a hero who has done so much for Telangana. The state has developed so much under your leadership. I consider Telangana as my second home as it’s my place of work & the people have shown me so much love over the years,” wrote the actor, who has worked in many Telugu movies.

Will fight in all fora to protect rights over Krishna water: Telangana CM

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday reiterated that the state government would fight without any compromise to protect the interests of the state’s farmers, farm sector and its rightful share in Krishna waters.

He said the Andhra Pradesh government’s attitude and stand on Krishna river water sharing is harming Telangana farmers’ interests.

The state cabinet has already decided to get the state’s rightful share of the allocation of water and to continue hydel power generation to run Telangana’s lift irrigation scheme. Against this background, the state government has decided to make its voice heard in the courts, tribunals and in the coming session of the Parliament.

The state government has also been putting pressure on the Union government to finalise its share of allocation of water. It has decided to strongly put forth its argument before the tribunal, the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and other such platforms.

A high-level review meeting was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister on the strategy to be adopted to get the state its rightful allocation of water and the future course of action.

In the review meeting, which lasted for over six hours, the way Telangana was subjected to injustices for several decades in terms of irrigation water was discussed at length and in depth.

The meeting decided that under the self-rule, irrigation water problems should never crop up. The Chief Minister, who discussed the strategies to be planned and implemented, gave the necessary instructions to the officials.

Minister V Srinivas Goud, MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar, CM’s Principal Secretary S. Narsing Rao, Special Chief Secretary (Irrigation) Rajat Kumar, CM’s Secretaries Smita Sabharwal, Bhoopal Reddy, CM’s OSD Priyanka Varghese, Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar Rao, Advocate General B.S. Prasad and others participated in the meeting.

KTR makes woman labourer inaugurate Balanagar flyover!

1

Telangana IT minister KT Rama Rao on Tuesday sprang a surprise by asking a woman labourer to cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Balanagar flyover in Hyderabad.

KTR was invited as the chief guest to inaugurate this long-pending flyover.

Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Ch Malla Reddy and TRS MLAs belonging to Hyderabad were waiting for KTR to inaugurate the flyover.

After KTR arrived at the inauguration site, he spoke to few woman labourers who were present there.

They told KTR that they have been working on this site for the past two years.

KTR was impressed by Shivamma, a labourer hailing from Manigala village in Wanaparthy district, who told how they contributed to the speedy completion of this delayed project over the past two years.

Soon after, KTR asked Shivamma to inaugurate this flyover to everyone’s surprise.

KTR handed over scissors to her to cut the ribbon. After inauguration KTR said recognising the hardwork of labourers and respecting labourers amounts to respecting ourselves and thanked Shivamma for inaugurating the flyover.

The works on massive 1.30 kilometre six-lane flyover aimed to ease traffic woes in highly congested Balanagar area started in 2017 at a cost of Rs 387 crore but was delayed due to land acquisition issues.

With scissors not available, KCR pulls off ribbon

1

Apparently irked over the delay by officials in arranging scissors at an inauguration ceremony, Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao pulled off the ribbon from a door.

The incident occurred on Sunday in Rajanna Sircilla district but came to light after a video went viral on social media.

The chief minister was in Mandepalli village to inaugurate double bed-room houses built under the state government’s dignity housing scheme for people below poverty line.

Accompanied by a couple of priests and beneficiaries, the chief minister reached the entrance of a house to formally inaugurate it by cutting the ribbon. However, the scissors were not available. He enquired about the same and was looking around for someone to quickly bring it. After waiting for about 20 seconds, he pulled off ribbon from one side to complete the formalities and led the beneficiaries into the house.

The video has since been shared widely on the social media.

The chief minister on Sunday inaugurated several developmental programmes in Sircilla constituency, represented by his son and minister for industry, municipal administration, urban development and information technology K.T. Rama Rao.

The houses have been built in an area named after KCR, as the chief minister is popularly known. A total of 1,320 houses were built at a cost of Rs 80 crore. In the five storied building, each flat has 560 square area with two bedrooms, common bathroom, hall, kitchen and attached bathroom.

Telangana approaches NGT over Andhra’s irrigation project

0

The Telangana government has approached the National Green Tribunal to restrain Andhra Pradesh from executing the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme (RLIS) and to seek action against it for contempt.

The government filed a petition in the NGT praying for orders to stop the work on the project and action for wilful violation of the NGT’s judgment dated October 29, 2020.

It requested the NGT to hold physical inspection in view of the “aggravated form of contempt”.

“Restrain the state of Andhra Pradesh from executing Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme without the prior environmental clearance approvals from the Union Environment Ministry and Union Jal Shakti Ministry and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) as per Section 84 of A.P. Reorganisation Act, 2014,” reads the petition.

Telangana also sought against SPML Infra Ltd, the agency executing the actual work. The Union Environment and Forest Ministry, Union Jal Shakti Ministry, the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, the KRMB, and the agency executing the work have been made respondents.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government has also written a letter to the KRMB, seeking a meeting of the full board after July 20 instead of the meeting of a three-member committee.

Telangana’s Special Chief Secretary, Irrigation, Rajat Kumar, in his letter to the KRMB Chairman, said it was surprising that the meeting of the three-member committee has been called to discuss only the issues raised by Andhra Pradesh.

He demanded that this meeting be cancelled and a meeting of the full board be convened after July 20 to discuss critical issues raised by Telangana. He sought a discussion on revision of the water sharing ratio of Krishna river waters for current year, steps to stop construction of illegal RLIS and RDS right canal by Andhra Pradesh immediately, steps to stop excess diversion of water by Andhra Pradesh from Pothireddypadu head regulator, and other projects and issues.

Telangana also rejected the demand of Andhra Pradesh to stop power generation from Srisailam reservoir. The official pointed out that project was sanctioned by Planning Commission in 1963 as a hydro-electric project for supplying water to Nagarjuna Sagar project by power generation.

The letter mentioned that water supply systems in Telangana are predominantly dependent on lift irrigation schemes requiring huge energy inputs during the Kharif season. “As such, there is currently a severe power exigency in the state. Further, the process of power generation in Srisailam will ensure the transmission of sufficient waters to Nagarjuna Sagar project which is critical for meeting the needs of agricultural and drinking water requirements of Telangana,” reads the letter.

T’gana HC judge rejects request to recuse from Andhra farmers’ plea

A judge of Telangana High Court on Monday rejected the Advocate General’s request to recuse himself from hearing a petition filed by two farmers of Andhra Pradesh seeking orders to restrain the Telangana government from generating electricity from Krishna river water.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao took exception to Advocate General B.S. Prasad making the request without citing reasons and remarked that this amounts to “bench hunting”.

“This is in poor taste. We don’t expect the AG’s office to make such unreasonable request,” the judge remarked when the AG repeated his request without giving any reasons for it.

The AG later dropped his request, paving the way for hearing of the petition.

Earlier, the AG also made request to post the petition before a bench headed by Chief Justice Hima Kohli.

When the petition came up for hearing before the bench of Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao and Justice T. Vinod Kumar, Additional Advocate General J. Ramachandra Rao requested that it should be heard by a bench headed by the CJ as per roster of sitting arrangements.

However, petitioners’ counsel Vedula Venkatramana contended that the petition should be heard by the same bench since the petition involved issues relating to the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act.

Later, Justice Ramachandra Rao said the bench had got clarification from the CJ’s office that it should hear the matter. As the AG requested the judge to post it before the bench headed by the CJ, the judge said when the matter was clarified by the CJ’s office, how can it be conveyed to hear the matter.

It was at this point that the AG requested Justice Ramachandra Rao to recuse himself from hearing the petition.

After rejecting his request, the bench took up the petition for hearing. When the petitioner’s counsel presented his arguments, Justice Ramachandra Rao asked him if he was aware of the Supreme Court order that inter-state water disputes should not be heard by the high court.

Venkataramna sought one day time to go through the Supreme Court verdict. The bench later adjourned the hearing to Tuesday.

The farmers from Andhra Pradesh filed the petition amid the raging row between two Telugu states over sharing of Krishna river water. Telangana is demanding Andhra immediately stop work on the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, calling the project illegal. On the other hand, Andhra Pradesh has raised objection to Telangana generating electricity at Srisailam despite poor inflows in the dam.

TS Govt to encourage beer sales by reducing prices!

1

The Telangana government is seriously mulling a proposal to decrease beer prices in the state to encourage beer sales.

This is because beer sales fell by half in Telangana since March 2020 due to Corona outbreak as people stopped consuming any item that is cold with a fear that they may contract coronavirus if they consume cold items.

The Telangana government is heavily dependent on liquor sales to earn revenues. While all other revenue generating sources took a hit due to Covid lockdown and other restrictions, the excise revenue is coming to the rescue of Telangana government with steady revenue flow.

But beer sales dipping by half has been impacting TS government revenue earnings.

To overcome this, the TS government reportedly decided to cut beer prices by Rs 10 on each bottle on all brands.

The orders to this effect are expected in a day or two. It remains to be seen whether a reduction of just Rs 10 on each beer bottle will contribute to higher sales and increased revenue for Telangana government.

T’gana students protest at minister’s house, seek deferment of exams

0

Tension prevailed at the residence of Telangana education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy here on Monday as the students staged a protest demanding postponement of engineering and degree exams.

Demanding that the exams be conducted online, large number of students took out a rally and gathered outside the minister’s residence in Srinagar colony.

The students from Osmania University and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) staged the protest on a call given by National Students Union of India (NSUI). They pointed out that not all of the candidates appearing for exams have taken Covid-19 vaccines and hence the exams should be postponed till all students were vaccinated.

Police allowed NSUI Telangana unit president Venkat Balmoor and Congress leader Aamer Javeed to meet the minister. They demanded that the minister take immediate decision on exams.

Sabitha Indra Reddy, however, told them that no decision will be taken instantaneously. She, however, assured them that the exam centres will be set up wherever they desire. She said the education department is giving priority to students’ well being while making arrangements to conduct the exams.

With no assurance coming from the minister to postpone the exams, the students continued their protest near her residence. They raised slogans in support of their demand. The police then intervened to detain the protesters and shift them to police station.

Banjara Hills police registered a case against Venkat Balmoor and two other NSUI leaders.

Meanwhile, Telangana High Court on Monday refused to intervene in the issue. The court refused to take up a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) for hearing. The petitioner’s lawyer sought to move lunch motion but the court declined to take it up. Pointing out that the exams started at 10 a.m. on Monday, the court made it clear that it can’t intervene to stop the exams. It wanted to know what the petitioner was doing till the last minute.

Degree and engineering exams under JNTU began on Monday while the same under Osmania University are scheduled from Tuesday. At some exam centres, leaders of NSUI tried to stop candidates from appearing for exams. However, police intervened to arrest the protesters.

The state government has not conducted annual exams for SSC (10th) class and Intermediate (11th and 12th classes) due to Covid-19 situation. The students were declared pass and awarded grades on the basis of their internal assessment.

Krishna farmers file petition against TS Govt in TS High Court!

0

The farmers belonging to Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh on Monday filed a petition against Telangana state government in Telangana High Court.

The farmers filed a petition challenging GO No.34 issued by Telangana government last week asking TS Genco to produce hydel power at all irrigation projects on Krishna river up to 100 per cent of installed capacity.

The farmers termed the GO as ‘illegal’ and urged the High Court to quash GO 34.

The farmers told High Court that Telangana government is utilising GO 34 to illegally divert Krishna water in Nagarjunasagar, Srisailam, Pulichintala projects for hydel power generation due to which several districts in AP face danger of losing irrigation and drinking water.

The farmers moved lunch motion petition in the TS High Court.

The Telangana State cabinet has recently decided to take up hydel power generation in all irrigation projects to meet power demand for irrigation and drinking water schemes in Telangana.

This led to tussle between AP and Telangana with AP goverment complaining to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Jal Shakti ministry and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) against Telangana government.

Why is Sharmila chanting “Priya … o .. priya?”

YS Sharmila these days is regularly referring to the name ‘Priya’ during her private conversations. She is asking her close confidants to talk to Priya. Not just that, she herself is holding secret meetings with this ‘Priya.’ There is a buzz about this ‘Priya’ in the political circles these days.

Our investigations revealed that Priya is her political and media advisor. Priya advises her on her speech content, body language, modulation, usage of punch lines and also the strategy to be adopted to create a buzz about Sharmila and her to-be-born party. She is also taking care of Sharmila’s social media campaigns.

Now, who is this Priya? She is the daughter of Congress MLA from Tamil Nadu Rajendran. But, that’s not her ticket to fame. She is actually a key member of Team Prashant Kishore. Highly placed sources say that after she failed to make a splash, Sharmila approached Prashant Kishore for help. But, PK, who has more important things to do, has deputized his close confidant and colleague Priya. Since then, she has been advising Sharmila.

Priya is said to have guided her in making controversial statements that ensure that the focus is on her. Of late, Sharmila’s punch lines have become sharper and stronger. She is able to grab media space despite the fact that biggies like Eatala and Revanth Reddy are making the news. Sources say Priya is behind all these improvements. It is now being said that Priya is working hard behind the scenes to ensure that the party’s formal launch on June 9 becomes a major news story of the day.

Amid water row with Andhra, T’gana demands full meeting of KRMB

1

Amid raging row over sharing of Krishna river water, the Telangana government has demanded that Krishna River Water Management Board (KRMB) cancels its three-member committee meeting scheduled on July 9. Instead, it should convene a full-fledged board meeting after July 20 or later, including the points raised by Telangana in its agenda.

Telangana made it clear that it would not recognize Pothireddypadu project, which is being illegally constructed by the Andhra Pradesh government on Krishna river without any environmental clearances or allocation of even a drop of water to the project or any permission from the Green Tribunal.

The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (also known as KCR) late Saturday. The meeting resolved that Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, which lifts water for Pothireddypadu Canal, is also illegal.

The meeting vowed not to allow Potireddypadu project and instructed the officials concerned to put forth their arguments opposing the illegal Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme. It has decided to send Telangana issues to be included in the KRMB agenda immediately.

The meeting summarily rejected the 66:34 ratio so far continuing on Krishna waters between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It said the ratio should be 50:50 water allocation from this year onwards. Till the Tribunal makes the final allocation, the meeting proposed that Telangana and Andhra Pradesh should share 811 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water, 405.5 TMC each from the assured waters.

Ignoring the objections by Andhra Pradesh, the meeting also decided that power generation would continue at Jurala, Pulichintala, Srisailam, and Nagarjuna Sagar. It declared that KRMB has no right to stop the power generation. It said there are no agreements between the two states on hydel power generation.

The meeting rejected the misinformation campaign launched by Andhra Pradesh that the Telangana government is releasing water to the sea after generating power at Pulichintala. The meeting suggested to the Andhra government to utilise the water released from Pulichintala after the power generation through Prakasam barrage to fulfill the needs of Krishna district. This would, the meeting said, reduce the cost of power bills for lifting Godavari water from Pattiseema.

The meeting reiterated that Telangana government is utilising every opportunity lawfully to fulfill its needs to lift water for irrigation, to supply drinking water to Hyderabad and for the drinking water purposes through Mission Bhagiratha Scheme.

The meeting also resolved to generate 51 per cent clean energy as recommended by the Centre as environment pollution is increasing due to thermal power generation. The meeting also decided to implement the Centre’s guidelines through hydel power generation.

The meeting felt that it is ridiculous on the part of Andhra Pradesh to lodge complaints with the KRMB to stop power generation, when Telangana is utilising the water allocated lawfully in Srisailam to generate power from the project essentially meant for the power generation.

K. Chandrasekhar Rao said since Telangana has a terrain which allows water for irrigation through lifts, there is a need to generate more hydel power. He instructed the irrigation officials to lift water in accordance with the states right over the allocated water from Kaleshwaram on Godavari river. He instructed the officials concerned to generate continuous power from Srisailam, Pulichintala, and Jurala power generation plants. The Chief Minister made it clear that to safeguard the interests of farmers and the farm sector, the government would face any obstacles and problems.

“Telangana region is above the sea level geographically. Though rivers are flowing around the state, there is no possibility of drawing water for irrigation by gravity. In this backdrop, the state is in a dire situation where water has to be lifted to supply for irrigation. Under the Andhra colonial rulers, for decades the agriculture sector was neglected in the Telangana region and lift irrigation projects or schemes were never given any priority. Thereby the united Andhra Pradesh rulers have reduced cultivation as a wasteful profession and did a lot of injustice to the farmers here,” the Chief Minister said.

“After forming a separate state after a long struggle, the state government had given top priority to construction of the irrigation projects and taken up lift irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram and put an end to the irrigation water problem for once and for all.

With this the Telangana state had witnessed bumper yields and it became ‘Annapurna’ (rice bowl) to the entire country. This became possible as river waters are drawn through the lifts. In this background, we are planning more projects along Krishna and Godavari rivers.

“To give water for two crops, we will utilise the water allocated to us as right to generate hydel power. The river water allocated by several tribunals to the state will be utilised constitutionally, for providing water for irrigation and to generate hydel power to lift the water. For Telangana’s agriculture and welfare of farmers, we will fight with anyone to any extent,” the CHief Minister added.

KCR reiterated that they would cooperate with the neighbouring states to utilise water rightfully allocated to them but people in Telangana will not keep quiet if the states try to utilise the water illegally and forcibly without any allocation. He said Telangana faced severe problems due to lack of irrigation water for decades but under self-governance such a situation would not be allowed to recur.

He said several tribunals were constituted to allocate water to the Telangana state lawfully, they have given several awards but it is unfortunate that none of those awards were implemented.

He expressed anger over non-allocation of water in Krishna river to the state despite the constitution of the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal 17 years ago. He also made it clear that if need be, the state is ready to fight with the Centre.

TS Govt lost Rs 1 lakh crore due to Corona: KCR

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Sunday said that the state government has suffered losses to the tune of Rs 1 lakh crore due to the outbreak of coronavirus in March 2020 and subsequent lockdowns and other restrictions later.

KCR said the second wave of corona since April this year too contributed to the severe financial crisis.

KCR toured Siricilla, the home constituency of his son and IT minister KT Rama Rao on Sunday to launch several development programmes and inaugurate the newly-constructed integrated collectorate complex.

However, the severe financial crisis of the state government did not deter KCR from showering sops on Siricilla.

KCR announced sanctioning of new medical colleges, super speciality hospital, tourism circuit and what not.

KCR announced sharp increase in stipend for Anganwadi workers and other ground level medical staff.

KCR also announced launching a new insurance scheme for weavers along the lines of Rythu Bima.

However, KCR stated that the Covid situation in Telangana has now come under control and economic activity is picking up across the state.

He said Telangana state will soon overcome the financial crisis and become a ‘rich state’ very soon.

Bandi Sanjay to embark on padayatra from Aug 9 in Telangana!

1

BJP Telangana president and Karimnagar Lok Sabha member Bandi Sanjay on Sunday announced to take up state-wide padayatra to expose the failures of the TRS government and against the dictatorial rule of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Bandi’s padayatra will begin on August 9 from Bhagya Laxmi temple at Charminar in Hyderabad.

Bandi attaches sentimental value to Bhagya Laxmi temple. He started GHMC election campaign in December 2020 from this temple. This worked out and BJP performed exceedingly well in GHMC elections by increasing its seats and vote share significantly.

However, Bandi’s padayatra will be taken up in four of five phases to cover entire Telangana state.

The first phase of padayatra will begin from Hyderabad and ends at Huzurnagar, giving indications that he wants to utilise his padayatra for BJP’s campaign in upcoming Huzurabd Assembly bypoll.

Bandi’s padayatra will go on on the lines of late YS Rajashekar Reddy’s padayatra in Telangana in 2003.

It will cover Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Nizamabad districts in the first phase.

It will go on for 55 days covering a distance of 750 kilometres at the rate of 15 to 20 kilometres per day.

Bandi Sanjay said that his padayatra will start on August 9 coinciding with Quit India movement day and ends on October 2, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanthi.

Allocate 50:50 Krishna water for AP, TS: KCR asks Centre

The high-level review meeting under the chairmanship of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has made it clear and resolved that the Telangana state government is not recognizing Potireddypadu project, which is being illegally constructed by the AP Government on Krishna River without any environments clearances or allocation of even a drop of water to the project or any permissions from the Green tribunal.

A high-level review meeting under the chairman ship of CM KCR held on Saturday at Pragathi Bhavan on the illegal and unlawful Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, Lifting of water in Telangana State for irrigation projects and Hydel power generation in the State.

Important decisions take at today’s high-level meeting

The state would oppose Potireddypadu tooth and nail. Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, which lifts water for Potireddypadu Canal, is also illegal, the meeting resolved.

Though AP has enblock allocations by Bachawat Tribunal, but it should utilise water for the projects, which have allocations.

The meeting has resolved that the three members Committee meeting of the KRMB scheduled on July 9 should be canceled and full level board meeting should be convened after July 20 later including the points raised by Telangana State in the Agenda.

The meeting resolved that water to Potireddypadu would never be allowed and instructed the officials concerned to put forth their arguments opposing the illegal Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

It is also decided to send Telangana issues to be included in the KRMB Agenda immediately.

The meeting has summarily rejected the 66:34 ratio so far continuing on Krishna waters between AP and Telangana states. The meeting resolved that the ratio should be 50:50 water allocations from this year onwards. Till the Tribunal makes the final allocation, the meeting proposed that Telangana and AP State should share 811 TMC of water, 405.5 TMC each from the assured waters.

In accordance with the State cabinet decision, power generation will continue at Jurala, Pulichintala, Srisailam, and Nagarjuna Sagar.

The meeting declared that KRMB has no right to stop the power generation. It said there are no agreements between the two states on Hydel Power generation.

The meeting rejected the misinformation campaign launched by the AP that the Telangana state government is releasing water to the sea after generating power at Pulichintala. The meeting suggested to the AP government to utilise the water released from Pulichintala after the power generation through Prakasam Barrage to fulfil the needs of Krishna district. This would, the meeting said reduce the cost of power bills for lifting Godavari water from Pattiseema.

The meeting reiterated that the Telangana government is utilising every opportunity lawfully to fulfil its needs to lift water for irrigation, to supply drinking water to Hyderabad and for the drinking water purposes through Mission Bhagiratha Scheme. The Hydel power being generated is well within the law.

The meeting also has resolved to generate 51 per cent clan energy as recommended by the Centre as environment pollution is increasing due to thermal power generation. The meeting also decided to implement the Centre’s guidelines through generation of the Hydel power.

The meeting felt that it is ridiculous on part of the AP to lodge complaints with the KRMB to stop generation of power, when Telangana State utilising the water allocated lawfully in Srisailam to generate power from the project essentially meant for the power generation.

The meeting said it is gross injustice that the AP government is dumping the materials at the project sites under the guise of Surveys and taking up the construction despite Courts threatening that they would put the AP Chief Secretary behind bars and without any permission from the Green Tribunal.

The meeting has instructed the officials to release water through Jurala right and left canals to fill-up tanks and lakes.

The meeting has decided to rename the just completed Sammakka barrage, sitamma sagar Projects as Irrigation Hydro Electric projects.

Double whammy for Sharmila: Telangana unhappy, Seema angry with her

One wrong statement can ruin the career of a politician. It appears, YS Sharmila has made that cardinal mistake. It may well threaten her career. Her comments on water diversion through Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to the parched Rayalaseema region have effectively pitted her against the very area she belong to.

Sharmila, who is all set to launch YSR Telangana Party with an eye on the Telangana politics, has taken to Twitter to comment that she would oppose tooth and nail any attempt to divert even one drop of water to Rayalaseema. She said she would wage a relentless battle to protect the interests of Telangana.

She may have tweeted this comment to escape the criticism of being an Andhraite at heart. She would have thought she would win the battle of wits with the ruling TRS, which was planning to put her in a spot.

However, this comment of hers has angered the people of Rayalaseema. They are questioning her comments. Being a person of Rayalaseema origin with live links to Kadapa and Idupulapaya, how can she comment this way, asked several netizens. They sought to know how she can enter Rayalaseema again after making such anti-Rayalaseema statements. We will oppose her tooth and nail for these comments, the netizens are commenting. Now that her brand of politics has boomeranged, Sharmila is a confused politician. She must surely be realising that politics is a double-edge sword and one has to tread on it cautiously.

Sharmila to launch her party in a function hall !

1

YS Sharmila, the daughter of former Undivided AP CM YS Rajashekar Reddy and sister of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy has decided to launch her party in Telagnana in a fuction hall in Hyderabad on July 8.

Sharmila had earlier announced plans to launch her party by conducting a huge public meeting mobilising lakhs of people from all the districts in Telangana.

But she has now dropped plans to hold public meeting and instead launch her party in JRC Convention Centre in Jubilee Hills Hyderabad.

Sharmila already announced her party name as YSRTP (YSR Telangana Party). She will be launching her party on July 8 on the occasion of birth anniversary of her father late YSR.

She has invited only 1,000 party leaders from all the 33 districts in Telangana for the party launch programme.

However, Sharmila’s party leaders made arrangements to enable at least lakh people to take part in the launch programme from districts in virtual mode.

But why Sharmila dropped her plans to hold a huge public meeting is the question being raised in political circles. Because there are no lockdown restrictions in Telangana at present. The Telangana government has totally lifted all the corona related restrictions in the state.

Roja warns Telangana ministers!

0

Senior YSRCP leader, actress and MLA Roja on Friday warned Telangana ministers against abusing late YS Rajashekar Reddy, the former CM of Undivided AP and AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

She expressed severe anger at Telangana ministers who are criticising YSR and Jagan as ‘thief’ and ‘dacoit’.

Roja said YSR never looted Telangana water in Krishna or Godavari and YSR took up several irrigation projects under ‘jala yagnam’ in Telangana and AP when he was from 2004 to 2009 with an intention to utilise Godavari and Krishna water to optimum level for the benefit of Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana regions in Undivided AP.

Roja said the Pothareddypadu project took up by YSR was also aimed to utilise Andhra share in Krishna water effectively.

Roja termed Telangana ministers as ‘ignorant’ who don’t know even ABCD of irrigation sector but talking in loud mouth and bad mouthing YSR and Jagan.

She said they had shown much restraint despite Telangana ministers abusing YSR and Jagan over Krishna water row but they will not tolerate this anymore.

“We will teach a fitting lesson to Telangana ministers who are abusing YSR and Jagan if they continue to bad mouth us,” Roja warned.

Roja alleged that Telangana government is meting out grave injustice to Andhra Pradesh by diverting AP’s share in Krishna water for generation of hydel power in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar.

On one hand, AP has no adequate water reserves to meet irrigation and drinking water needs in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, but TS government is diverting this water for hydel power generation pushing AP into a water crisis.

Roja said AP CM Jagan is maintaining silence in the interests of both TS and AP despite TS leaders provoking him with abusive words on his father and himself.

Roja said there is a limit to everything and warned Telangana ministers not to cross their limits and test AP government’s patience.

Andhra condemns T’gana’s Krishna power generation

0

Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday condemned the Telangana government for generating hydel power by drawing water from Krishna river basin reservoirs.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Andhra Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy resolved to write missives to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this regard.

After the meeting, AP Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav asserted that the state government is constructing irrigation project as per regulations and using the water allocated to the state.

“Full capacity of 44,000 cusecs of water from Pothireddypadu can be drawn only if water level reaches 881ft in Srisailamwater level should reach 854 ft at least to draw 5,000 – 6,000 cusecs of water,” said Yadav.

The Minister said Telangana can draw 6 tmc water at 800 ft level and highlighted that AP is not able to draw Krishna flood water as the water level will be touching 881 ft – 885 ft only for 15 – 20 days.

He noted that to draw water at full capacity in less time, capacity should be increased by setting up lifts at 800 ft level.

Yadav said Reddy has already reiterated in the Apex Council meeting that water will be drawn from only the allocated share to the state.

The Irrigation Minister criticised Telangana Ministers for using provocative language and verbally attacking former united Anadhra Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

“Power generation is based on Irrigation demands and Telangana is committing a vicious act by generating hydel power though Krishna River Management Board has objected to it,” he said.

Yadav said AP will retaliate and the state is ready to bring projects under KRMB if needed and stated that the neighbouring state has been extending various projects such as Palamuru, Dindi and Nettempadu without permission.

“The state government would write a letter to KRMB on how Telangana is generating power illegally and request it to cut down wastage of water in 299 TMC of water allocated to them,” he added.
