Tension at Sharmila’s residence in Hyd!

1

Tension prevailed at YS Sharmila’s residence in Lotus Pond, Hyderabad on Wednesday as scores of activists under the banner of Andhra Pradesh Parirakshana Samithi laid siege to her house to protest against her comments in support of Telangana in the ongoing Krishna river water row between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Sharmila said she will fight with anyone if they try to divert Telangana share of Krishna water to AP indirectly hinting that she will not allow her brother and AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy to construct Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and Pothireddypadu expansion on river Krishna which are strongly opposed by Telangana government.

Samithi activists expressed anger at Sharmila for supporting Telangana despite she being ‘Rayalaseema bidda’.

Jagan is taking up projects on Krishna to solve irrigation and drinking water problems in Rayalaseema but Sharmila is trying to convert Rayalaseema into a desert by opposing Jagan’s projects, Ssmithi activists alleged.

They warned Sharmila of severe consequences if she hurts the interests of AP in general and Rayalaseema in particular.

The protest led to clash between Sharmila supporters and Samithi activists.

Police rushed to the spot, dispersed the mob and brought situation under control.

Why this ex-YSRCP MP is much in demand in Telangana?

1

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy is now the most sought after politician in Telangana border district of Khammam. The man with an immense support base and a loyal band of followers is in demand from the TRS, Congress and the BJP alike. Even YS Sharmila is seeking his support for her to-be-born party.

Ponguleti was the only MP to be elected on YSRCP ticket in the 2014 general elections. In the later developments, he joined the TRS. However in the 2019 elections, the TRS boss asked him to side step for Nama Nageswara Rao. Since then Ponguleti has been without any position of power. He certainly is sullen and angry at being sidelined and ignored. In the recent local body elections, KTR specially flew down to meet him and took him to Hyderabad in his flight to seek his support. He did help the TRS and the party made some big gains in undivided Khammam district. Once the elections were over, he was again dumped.

Both the BJP and YS Sharmila are now angling for him. His support would tilt the scales for any political party. While YS Sharmila is trying to remind him of his association with the YSRCP, the BjP is promising his rehabilitation. If sources are to be believed, the BJP has deployed no less a person than Eatala Rajender himself to entice Ponguleti. Though Ponguleti has refuted the claims that he was joining the BJP, the buzz on the social media is refusing to die. But, his fans want Ponguleti to teach the TRS a lesson as it has gone back on its promises to their leaders.

Whatever, Ponguleti is much in demand and all the three major parties are trying to woo him. What will Ponguleti do? Let’s wait and watch as the game unfolds.

The Women Safety Wing of Telangana police on Tuesday launched a new initiative aimed at making cyberspace safe for adolescent children.

CybHER – III or Cyber Congress programme will run for 10 months and will comprise robust training session and practical activities conducted in urban and rural settings of Telangana.

The inaugural programme of Cyber Congress was held on Tuesday in a virtual mode. Director General of Police M.Mahendar Reddy formally inaugurated the programme in the presence of Swati Lakra, Addl. DGP, Women Safety Wing, B. Sumathi, Dy. IGP, Women Safety Wing, A. Sri Devasena, Commissioner and Director of School Education Department, Sandeep Kumar Sulthania, Secretary, Panchayat Raj and Secretary of Education and other officials.

The DGP called upon all the adolescent children, youth and women to acquaint themselves with different kinds of cyber crimes being indulged in by the offenders and the relevant cyber laws through which they can protect themselves.

He stated that no one should fall prey to the cyber trap and young students should play the role of a leader as cyber ambassadors.

Under the initiative, students will be selected from each school with a teacher. The team will promote the positive uses of the internet. It then gets connected to experts online through a Learning Management System (LMS) for regular sessions which in turn is shared with the students by the local cyber ambassadors.

The programme will be held across 33 districts of Telangana targeting 50 schools from each district. Overall, the project aims to empower 1,650 teachers and 3,300 children.

The objectives of the cyber Congress programme is to reach out to rural areas on preventive cyber crimes, impart awareness on online safety in educational institutes, bridge gap between police and youngsters, women through She teams on cyber safety, work with various stakeholders especially education department, cyber experts and civil society organizations to bring mass and sustained cyber awareness and create a pool of young and well aware cyber ambassadors to help government institutions of all districts of Telangana associate with local communities and police in addressing online safety issues.

Swati Lakra said it will create a need based syllabus and impart knowledge in a practical way, create a cyber safety movement among young populations by engaging them in activity connected to personal online safety at community level.

The 10-month Cyber Congress initiative consists of detailed online sessions facilitated by cyber security expert Rakshit Tandon. The Cyber Congress initiative will focus on training selected students and teachers as cyber ambassadors who will be trained on all aspects of cyber safety and will in turn educate everyone in their school and community circles on how to be safe from cyber crimes.

The cyber ambassadors will be facilitators who will not only educate but provide assistance to others if/when they witness any cyber crimes being committed.

The sessions will be conducted via video-conferencing and will also include assignments and activities which may be conducted on-ground in compliance with all Covid-19 safety protocols. The cyber ambassadors (students and teachers) will receive certificates from Women Safety Wing, Telangana Police and the Education Department, Government of Telangana.

Due to the spike in cyber crimes during the lockdown, Women Safety Wing (WSW) had earlier conducted a Youngster Conscious Survey on how to be safe online.

The month-long CybHER awareness campaign in July 2020 to make cyberspace safe for women and children reached over 50 lakh people.

Under CybHER- II, WSW conducted a massive online awareness sessions on cyber safety during March 2021 to 3.75 lakh school children in Telangana. During these sessions, the students asked multiple questions on cyber safety which prompted the need for a long-term project called Cyber Congress.

Badvel’s king-maker is dormant now

0

Repeated reversals seem to be having their effect on the TDP in Badvel assembly constituency. Considered a TDP citadel for years, this constituency seems to be slipping out of the TDP hands. The party incharge Vijayamma has become very inactive and the party organization has become moribund for the last two years.

Vijayamma is the daughter of stalwart Bijivemula Veera Reddy, who was with the TDP from its inception. After his death, she took over reins of the party in Badvel and was elected MLA. However, the constituency became an SC reserved constituency in 2009. Since then, Vijayamma became the king-maker in the constituency. She had the party firmly under her control. In 2014, though the TDP managed to win and form the government at the state level, Badvel constituency went into the YSRCP kitty.

However, she managed to lure YSRCP MLA Jayaramulu into the TDP as part of the TDP’s Operation Akarsh. Still, she continued to hold sway on the party in the constituency. In the 2019 elections, TDP again lost Badvel. Since then, Vijayamma withdrew into a shell and has stopped attending party programmes. She showed little interest in the recent panchayat and municipal elections.

It was then rumoured that she was planning to quit the TDP and join the YSRCP. However, Vijayamma herself refuted these rumours and categorically stated that she would remain in the TDP and that there was no question of joining the YSRCP. But, at the same time, she has not become active again. Her complete inaction has left the TDP cadre thoroughly demoralized and dispirited. They are finding the going tough without an inspiring leadership. They say that it is time that the TDP bosses take a call and set the things right in Badvel.

Hyderabad’s link roads model for other cities: KTR

The link roads being developed in Hyderabad to ease traffic congestion on the main roads are becoming a model for other cities, Telangana Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao said on Monday.

The minister said that Hyderabad Road Development Corporation (HRDC) officials are receiving calls from officials in the other cities of the country wanting to know how the link roads are being developed here.

Rama Rao said that calls have also been received from Mumbai, seeking details of the link roads plan under which a total of 133 roads are being laid.

The main aim of the programme is to ease traffic congestion on the main roads, bring down the level of pollution and provide convenience to people.

“As far as I know, no other city in the country has taken up development of link roads at this scale,” said the minister, while inaugurating five new link roads laid in the Serlingampalli zone at a cost of Rs 27.43 crore.

He said under the first phase, 22 link roads were taken up at a cost of Rs 313.65 crore. Of these, 16 have already been completed, while work on the remaining six will be completed soon.

Under the second phase, 17 link roads will be developed. The work on four roads has already started at a cost of about Rs 66 crore. Another 13 roads will be taken up at a cost of Rs 232 crore. Thus, in a phased manner, 133 link roads will be developed to improve connectivity.

KTR, as the minister is popularly known, said the government took up several infrastructure projects to meet the growing needs of Hyderabad, which is expanding at a rapid pace.

He pointed out that the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP) has been taken up at a cost of Rs 6,000 crore for the development of roads, flyovers and underpasses.

A Comprehensive Road Maintenance Programme (CRMP) was also launched at a cost of Rs 1,800 crore for better maintenance of the existing roads.

P V Narasimha Rao’s statue unveiled in Hyderabad

2

Former Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao’s statue was unveiled here on Monday on the occasion of his birth centenary.

The statue was unveiled by Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Necklace Road.

The Governor also unveiled a plaque renaming Necklace Road as PV Narasimha Rao Marg.

The 16-feet high bronze statue has been installed by the Telangana State Cultural Department. The statue weighing two tonnes has come up at a cost of Rs 27 lakh.

The statue has been installed near PV Gyan Bhoomi, the samadhi of Narasimha Rao on Necklace Road on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake.

It is one of the seven bronze statues of Rao planned to be installed as part of centenary celebrations.

Later addressing the closing ceremony at PV Gyan Bhoomi, PV Narasimha Rao Centenary Celebration Committee chairman K. Keshava Rao said late leader’s statues were being installed in six districts. One statue will also be installed in New Delhi.

Revanth meets arch rival VH, makes him happy!

1

Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao was the one who openly and strongly opposed proposal to make Revanth Reddy as TPCC president since beginning.

Such was VH’s rivalry with Revanth that he lodged police cases against Revanth’s followers who called VH over phone and abused him for opposing Revanth.

But on Monday, Revanth surprised everyone including VH by visiting Apollo Hospital where he is undergoing treatment to enquire about his health and also seek his blessings.

VH was very much impressed with Revanth’s gesture and offered to work together with new TPCC chief to defeat KCR in 2023 Assembly polls.

VH even offered to take Revanth to Sonia and Rahul Gandhi in Delhi to discuss on action plan to be adopted to fight against TRS government in future.

Revanth too felt very happy at VH’s response. Revanth praised VH for thinking about Telangana people and Congress even at the time of undergoing treatment on hospital bed.

Revanth said VH inspired him a lot with his commitment towards people and party in Telangana.

Where is cash for KCR’s cash transfer schemes?

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has announced yet another cash transfer scheme, this time to lure Dalits in the state.

KCR announced a new scheme ‘CM Dalit Empowerment Scheme’ under which he promised to transfer Rs 10 lakh to each Dalit family in their bank accounts.

Initially he allocated Rs 1,200 crore to cover 11,900 dalit families this year covering 100 families in each of total 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana.

KCR had earlier promised 3 acres to each dalit family during 2014 Assembly elections which was not fulfilled even today in 2021.

In this backdrop, questions are being raised over how KCR could transfer such a huge amount of Rs 10 lakh to each dalit family.

Already government is struggling to transfer cash of Rs 5,000 per acre to farmers under Rythu Bandhu scheme. This year government took loans to mobilise Rs 7,300 crore for kharif Rythu Bandhu recently.

Is this why Congress senior Sridhar Babu ignored?

0

One big question that is being asked by several analysts is why young leader and former minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu was ignored by the Congress High Command. While the AICC this time preferred a team of young leaders, it completely sidelined Sridhar Babu. No post was announced and no assurance was given to him.

Highly placed sources say that the main reason why Sridhar Babu was overlooked was his wife. Sridhar Babu’s wife Shailaja Ramaiyer is an IAS office in Telangana and currently the Commissioner of Handlooms and Textiles and Apparel Export Parks. There are rumours that the TRS top leadership is in touch with him through her. While several people close to Sridhar Babu refute these allegations, the high command reportedly received written petitions about Sridhar Babu’s ‘back-door’ links with the ruling TRS.

Sridhar Babu belongs to a diehard Congress family. His father Sripada Rao was the speaker of the AP legislative assembly when he was killed by Maoists. Sridhar Babu was the minister for civil supplies, consumer affairs, legal metrology and legislative affairs in the Kiran Kumar Reddy government. But there have always been rumours of Sridhar Babu being in touch with the TRS leadership through his wife.

Similar allegations of proximity to TRS have marred the chances of senior leader and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar. Both these leaders from Karimnagar are unhappy but may not leave the Congress as of now. They are hoping that they would be rehabilitated by the AICC.

See how KCR left TRS, BJP divided on Dalit question!!

Master strategist KCR appears to have achieved his twin objectives with his meeting on Dalits. On one hand, he has created an impression that he cares for the Dalits and that he is genuinely worried about the attacks on them. On the other, he has managed to sow dissensions in the opposition parties.

He shocked the BJP, when he got BJP’s Dalit leader Motkupalli Narsimhulu defy the partyline and attend the Dalit conclave at Pragathi Bhavan. At the same time, he managed to make Congress Party’s top Dalit leader and CLP chief Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka praise the initiative. The BJP is mulling action against Motkupalli, while the Congress is left thoroughly confused over Mallu’s remarks. Significantly, Mallu had criticized the TRS only recently on the Dalit issue.

But a day after Revanth Reddy’s appointment, he praised Chief Minister’s Dalit conclave and said it has instilled confidence among the Dalits in the state. He said the steps taken by KCR in the aftermath of Mariyamma’s custodial death were praiseworthy.

Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka’s comments are viewed with alarm in the Congress. Analysts feel that he is unhappy with the way a relatively junior leader like Revanth Reddy was made the PCC chief in Telangana. It is to show his displeasure that he made these pro-KCR comments. Some say he is preparing the ground to join the TRS in the coming days. It will be a huge jolt for the Congress Party if Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka joins the TRS. It will lose a prominent Dalit face.

Team Modi Rejig: Will AP, Telangana be ignored again?

1

New Delhi is agog with the buzz that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to rejig his cabinet. If sources serve us right, as many as 27 new ministers would be inducted into Narendra Modi’s team. But, several non-performing ministers may be shown the door, the sources said.

A reshuffle has become necessary for three reasons. Several of the coalition partners have left the NDA. For instance Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akalidal have quit the NDA. JDU, which is an NDA partner but did not join the cabinet may join now. Secondly, some key ministers like Ram Vilas Paswan and Suresh Agadi have passed away. Currently, their ministries are being handled by other ministers, who are feeling over-burdened with work. They need to be relieved of the burden.

Thirdly, several key leaders at the state level, who have made sacrifices for the party, need to be accommodated. Former deputy CM of Bihar Sushil Modi, former Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, former Maharashtra CM Narayan Rane and Madhya Pradesh strongman Jyotiraditya Scindia need to be rewarded for their role in strengthening the party.

With elections to UP, Goa, Punjab and other states round the corner, Modi has to give adequate representation to the poll-bound states. Especially, UP needs better representation and caste equations have to be addressed ahead of elections. So, a rejig is on cards sooner than later.

The names that are doing rounds are – Jyotiraditya Scindia (Madhya Pradesh), Sushil Modi (Bihar), Bhupendra Yadav (Rajasthan), Sarbananda Sonowal (Assam), Kailas Vijayavargiya (Madhya Pradesh), Narayan Rane (Maharashtra), Pritam Munde (Maharashtra), Sayyad Jafar Islam (Party’s official spokesperson), Anil Jain,, Swatantra Dev Singh (UP), Varun Gandhi, Pankaj Chowdary, Anupriya Patel (all UP), Ashvini Vaishnav, Bijayanta Panda (Odisha), Minakshi Lekhi (Delhi), Rajiv Chandrasekhar (Karnataka) and Jamyang Tsering Namgyal (Ladakh).

Interestingly, there are no names from either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh.!!

T’gana Cong plans talks to check dissidence over new chief

0

Talks will be held with leaders unhappy over appointment of A. Revanth Reddy as the new president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, senior leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir said on Sunday.

The former minister told reporters after meeting Revanth Reddy that talks will be held with dissidents. He exuded confidence that the problem would be sorted out soon.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday appointed Malkajgiri MP and firebrand leader Revanth Reddy as the new president of TPCC to revive and lead the party to victory in 2023 assembly polls.

However, hours after his appointment, former MLA from Medchal, K. Laxma Reddy resigned from the Congress party. The AICC member wrote a letter to the party leadership saying ‘under the present circumstances’ he would not be able to continue.

Laxma Reddy is known to have differences with Revanth Reddy. Shabbir, however, said Revanth Reddy will speak to Laxma Reddy.

While hailing Revanth’s appointment as the new PCC chief, the former minister said time has come for all party workers to fight as soldiers. He claims that Revanth enjoys the full support of youth.

Shabbir believes that the MP can lead the party to victory in 2023 elections.

Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy’s supporters on Sunday celebrated his appointment as the state party chief. They gathered at his camp office, raised slogans, distributed sweets and burst firecrackers.

After the central leadership announced his appointment Saturday night, Revanth Reddy met some senior leaders. He was holding meetings with some more leaders on Sunday.

After consultation with key leaders, he is likely to announce his plans to strengthen the party and prepare it for the next polls.

The central leadership ignored many seniors and aspirants to pick Revanth as the new PCC chief.

He succeeded Uttam Kumar Reddy, who had resigned from the post in December following the party’s humiliating defeat in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.

Revanth had quit Telugu Desam Party (TDP) to join Congress in October 2017. Some leaders, opposed to his appointment, are likely to leave the party.

Telangana continues to vaccinate over 2 lakh people daily

2

Covid-19 vaccination in Telangana continues at brisk pace as the authorities administered 2.45 lakh doses on Saturday, officials said.

A total of 2,45,098 doses were administered across the state, taking the cumulative doses administered to 1,03,24,320.

According to director of public health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao, 2,17,789 people received the first dose while 27,309 were given the second dose.

The cumulative numbers for first and second dose reached 88,47,880 and 14,76,440 respectively.

For a third consecutive day, the state administered over two lakh doses. The state had crossed the one crore doses mark on June 25.

Vaccination was carried out at 1,114 centres including 57 private centres across the state on Saturday.

Majority of the beneficiaries continued to be in 18-44 age group. As many as 1,73,928 people from this age group were vaccinated on Saturday. With this the cumulative number of vaccinated people in this age group mounted to 34.55 lakh. Over 59 lakh people above 45 years have also been vaccinated so far.

According to the official, nearly 10 lakh healthcare and frontline workers have also received the doses.

Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar stated that the state could achieve the one crore doses mark on account of its strategic approach. He said a large number of people can be vaccinated once more doses are made available.

As part of its strategy, the state vaccinated high risk groups and superspreaders first. Their number is around 26 lakh.

As the state plans to reopen educational institutions from July 1, the authorities have started vaccinating teaching and non-teaching staff. They have to produce their identity cards at the vaccination centres to get the shot.

The health department plans to further increase the numbers if the state gets more doses.

The state government has already said that it has the capacity to administer 10 lakh doses every day.

Telangana-Andhra water row heats up

The water row between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over the latters controversial project across the Krishna River has turned bitter with the leaders from the two Telugu states indulging in a no-holds barred attack.

The inter-state dispute over sharing of Krishna waters came to the fore again this week following reports that Andhra Pradesh is going ahead with the construction of the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (RLIP) despite the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) to stop the work.

Ignoring the objections of Telangana, the Andhra government reportedly executed work relating to the RLIP during the second wave of Covid-19.

Telangana says that RLIP will badly affect its interests while Andhra maintains that it is not using more water than what was allotted to it under the water sharing agreement.

“If Andhra diverts five tmcft of water every day, our five districts will be badly affected,” said Telangana’s Energy Minister Jagadish Reddy.

The water disputes between the two states have their roots in the pre-Telangana era. Leaders of the Telangana region in combined Andhra Pradesh had always complained about the injustice meted out to the region in allocation of rivers waters and construction of irrigation projects by successive governments.

In fact injustice in allocation of water resources, funds and jobs was the slogan on which Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) fought for separate statehood to the region.

After Telangana gained statehood in 2014, the disputes over sharing of water intensified as upper riparian state Andhra Pradesh was accused of drawing more water by taking up illegal projects.

The Telangana government headed by TRS chief K. Chandrasekhara Rao has been claiming that it is fighting to safeguard the state’s interests.

As per the temporary allocation made after the formation of Telangana State, out of 811 tmcft of Krishna water, Telangana was allotted 299 tmcft and Andhra 512 tmcft. The Telangana government, however, maintains that it should get at least 565 tmcft, with the balance going to Andhra Pradesh.

Telangana has requested the Centre to refer the issue of redistribution of Krishna water by constituting a new tribunal or referring to Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II with new terms of reference.

Telangana withdrew the case in the Supreme Court to facilitate this but the delay on the part of the Centre to act on its request is causing concern to the Telangana government.

At the previous apex council meeting held in October 2020, Union Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat had stated that the Centre would seek legal opinion on the issue. However, he has not yet decided on a new tribunal or referring the issue to KWDT-II.

Even as this issue was pending with the Centre, reports of Andhra taking up work on RLIP sparked the latest row.

The Telangana Cabinet took serious note of the development as RLIP will allegedly divert Krishna water from Srisailam reservoir to outside the basin.

The Telangana government approached the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to prevent Andhra Pradesh from proceeding with the illegal construction of the project and also send a fact finding committee to the project site.

Telangana special chief secretary (irrigation) Rajat Kumar sent a letter to KRMB seeking steps to protect the genuine and legitimate claims of Telangana on Krishna waters.

“As per section 85(8)(d) of the AP Reorganisation Act of 2014, it is the responsibility of the KRMB to restrain AP from proceeding with RLIP works, enhancement of Srisailam right main canal and other works. The ministry of jal shakti has already directed AP not to proceed with the project without submitting the DPR before the KRMB and getting its approval,” Rajat Kumar said.

Following this, KRMB directed the AP water resources secretary to not go ahead with the work until the detailed project report is appraised by the authorities concerned.

While Telangana officials alleged that work was in full swing, their Andhra counterparts denied this. They maintained that others work such as canal lining was being taken up.

Rajat Kumar also found fault with KRMB for not sending a fact-finding committee to the project site despite a direction by the NGT in February.

Meanwhile Telangana Sarpanches’ Association member, Gavinola Srinivas, also filed a contempt petition in the NGT.

The Chennai bench of the NGT on June 25 cautioned the Andhra government that the chief secretary would be sent to jail if the government failed to follow the directives.

The bench directed the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and the regional office of the Union ministry of environment, to submit a report on the current situation of the RLIP project site.

At the political level, a bitter war of words ensued between the two states. A Telangana minister went to the extent of calling Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy a ‘water thief’.

A couple of Telangana ministers even dragged Jagan Reddy’s father and late chief minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy into the row. They recalled how YSR, as the late leader was popularly known, did injustice to Telangana as the chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh.

Roads and Buildings minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy said if YSR had been a ‘water thief’, his son Jagan Mohan Reddy had turned out to be a ‘bigger thief’.

Goud went on to remark how many people believe that if YSR was alive, a separate Telangana state would not have become a reality.

However, Andhra minister Perni Nani alleged that Telangana leaders are acting provocatively on the water dispute. “Neither Andhra Pradesh nor Telangana will benefit from these acts. Our policy is clear. We have no intention of provoking emotions,” he said.

“Andhra Pradesh is not taking even a single drop more than what is allotted to it. We want cordial relations with the Centre and neighbouring states,” he said.

“Everyone knows what YSR has done for Telangana. Some leaders in Telangana are criticizing YSR for political gains,” he said.

Granary Telangana needs more rice mills: KCR

1

Bounteous food crops growth and production in Telangana has made the state a granary, requiring more number of rice mills, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday.

“Abundant food crops growth and production in Telangana has made the state a granary for the country. The state needs additional rice mills. We have to increase the number of rice mills,” said Rao at a meeting organised in the run up to the launch of village and city progress programme on July 1.

As part of the programme, KCR said no work should be pending.

He admonished Panchayat Raj department officials to introspect as to why so many works are pending even after the state government extending so much support.

The Chief Minister directed officials to act sternly in dealing with fake seeds sale.

He also instructed the officials to use their wide powers in cracking down on fake seeds, coordinating with the police department.

Rao also asked his officials to provide door delivery of six saplings to every household in the villages as well ensuring they are planted.

Likewise, the CM said electric power issues in the villages should be resolved by observing power day.

Telangana CM orders probe into Dalit woman’s custodial death

0

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday directed the state police chief to probe the lockup death of a Dalit woman in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district and take stringent action against the police personnel responsible as per the law.

He asked Director General of Police M. Mahender Reddy to remove the policemen, if found guilty, from the service.

He said that the lockup death of Mariamma, hailing from Chintakaniki in Khammam district, is very painful and the government would never support such measures.

Assuring that the government would extend all support son and daughters of Mariamma, he instructed Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar to ensure that Mariamma’s son Uday Kiran is given a government job, a house and Rs 15 lakh ex gratia, and Mariamma’s two daughters are given Rs 10 lakh each. The DGP was asked to visit Chintakaniki to find out the facts and details about the lockup death and console the members of the victim’s family.

KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, gave the directions after a delegation of opposition Congress party leaders met him to submit a memorandum, seeking justice for the family of the victim.

Congress Legislature Party leader and Madhira MLA Bhatti Vikramarka, other party MLAs D. Sridhar Babu, Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, Jaggareddy, and Congress SC Cell Chairman Pritam called on the Chief Minister.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, he expressed anger over the behaviour of police in the lockup death. He suggested that local minister Puvvada Ajaykumar, MP Nama Nageshwar Rao, and District Collector should take the CLP leader along with them on June 28 and meet the victim’s family members and console them.

“There is a need for the society to change its attitude towards the Dalits. Especially the attitude and behaviour of the police towards the Dalits should be in favour of them and support them. It is unfortunate that when the police machinery is making a qualitative change in maintaining the law and order situation, such incident took place. We will not pardon such incidents. The government will not keep quiet if anyone does harm to Dalits. There will be swift action on the matter. There should not be any delay in inquiring about the culprits of lockup death and taking stern action against them. If need be, dismiss them from the service,” the CM told the DGP.

The CM’s orders came a day after the Telangana High Court ordered judicial probe into the alleged lockup death of the Dalit woman in in Addaguduru police station under Rachakonda police commissionerate on June 18.

Mariyamma, who was working as a maid at a pastor’s house in Addagudur and faced robbery charges, died in the police station because of alleged police torture.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat had on Tuesday ordered suspension of three police officers at Addagudur for negligence in handling investigation allegedly leading to the custodial death.

Station sub-inspector V. Maheshwar, constables Rasheed, and Janaiah were suspended.

The Congress party leaders alleged that Mariamma and her son were whisked away from their home in Khammam district by policemen in plain clothes on June 15 in connection with the case. They were brought to Addaguduru police station, where they were tortured.

Strange: KCR gives appointment to Cong MLAs to enter Pragathi Bhavan

1

In a strange development, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday gave appointment to Congress MLAs to enter Pragathi Bhavan and meet him.

CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka along with few party MLAs sought KCR’s appointment to submit a representation seeking probe into recentv lockup death of dalit woman Mariyamma.

The CMO officials confirmed appointment and asked Congress MLAs to meet him at 5pm.

Not only Congress, leaders from all other opposition parties could not believe their ears that KCR gave appointment.

This is because KCR never gave appointment to any opposition leader except Owaisi brothers of AIMIM in the past seven years since he became CM in 2014.

After Etela Rajender’s ouster from TRS in May, a significant change is seen in KCR’s style of functioning.

He is touring districts frequently and meeting people against his image of confining himself to Pragathi Bhavan or farmhouse all the time.

Why has Dharmapuri Arvind fallen silent suddenly?

1

Till a few months ago, he was all over the face. His strong attacks on KCR and the ruling TRS ad evoked strong reaction. Laced with sarcasm and wit, he used to take on the TRS will all force. Soon, he earned a strong support base among the youths in the state. Yes. We are talking about Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind.

Post the Graduate MLC elections he has completely fallen silent. The strong criticism is gone and Arvind is confined to his constituency. Sources say he became silent after Eatala Rajender entered the party. Though Arvind has strongly supported Eatala’s entry into the party and gave some press interviews welcoming him, he has later fallen silent. He is not coming out in defence of the BJP at every opportunity.

Some say that consecutive defeats in the Graduate MLC elections and Nagarjunasagar have dampened his spirits. There was also a strong criticism of his claims that TRS leaders, including KCR , would go to jail once the BJP comes to power, proved counter-productive. This criticism has actually evoked sympathy for KCR, they argue. So, party’s thinking heads have reportedly advised both D Arvind and Bandi Sanjay to tone down their personal criticism.

There are doubts whether he could actively campaign in Huzurabad bypolls. Sources close to D Arvind say that he might campaign only if he gets an invite. Arvind also reportedly doesn’t see an important role for himself in Huzurabad. It would be an out-and-out Eatala Rajender show, he reportedly feels. Hence he is said to be keeping a low profile.
