Double whammy for Sharmila: Telangana unhappy, Seema angry with her

One wrong statement can ruin the career of a politician. It appears, YS Sharmila has made that cardinal mistake. It may well threaten her career. Her comments on water diversion through Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to the parched Rayalaseema region have effectively pitted her against the very area she belong to.

Sharmila, who is all set to launch YSR Telangana Party with an eye on the Telangana politics, has taken to Twitter to comment that she would oppose tooth and nail any attempt to divert even one drop of water to Rayalaseema. She said she would wage a relentless battle to protect the interests of Telangana.

She may have tweeted this comment to escape the criticism of being an Andhraite at heart. She would have thought she would win the battle of wits with the ruling TRS, which was planning to put her in a spot.

However, this comment of hers has angered the people of Rayalaseema. They are questioning her comments. Being a person of Rayalaseema origin with live links to Kadapa and Idupulapaya, how can she comment this way, asked several netizens. They sought to know how she can enter Rayalaseema again after making such anti-Rayalaseema statements. We will oppose her tooth and nail for these comments, the netizens are commenting. Now that her brand of politics has boomeranged, Sharmila is a confused politician. She must surely be realising that politics is a double-edge sword and one has to tread on it cautiously.

Sharmila to launch her party in a function hall !

1

YS Sharmila, the daughter of former Undivided AP CM YS Rajashekar Reddy and sister of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy has decided to launch her party in Telagnana in a fuction hall in Hyderabad on July 8.

Sharmila had earlier announced plans to launch her party by conducting a huge public meeting mobilising lakhs of people from all the districts in Telangana.

But she has now dropped plans to hold public meeting and instead launch her party in JRC Convention Centre in Jubilee Hills Hyderabad.

Sharmila already announced her party name as YSRTP (YSR Telangana Party). She will be launching her party on July 8 on the occasion of birth anniversary of her father late YSR.

She has invited only 1,000 party leaders from all the 33 districts in Telangana for the party launch programme.

However, Sharmila’s party leaders made arrangements to enable at least lakh people to take part in the launch programme from districts in virtual mode.

But why Sharmila dropped her plans to hold a huge public meeting is the question being raised in political circles. Because there are no lockdown restrictions in Telangana at present. The Telangana government has totally lifted all the corona related restrictions in the state.

Tension at Sharmila’s residence in Hyd!

1

Tension prevailed at YS Sharmila’s residence in Lotus Pond, Hyderabad on Wednesday as scores of activists under the banner of Andhra Pradesh Parirakshana Samithi laid siege to her house to protest against her comments in support of Telangana in the ongoing Krishna river water row between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Sharmila said she will fight with anyone if they try to divert Telangana share of Krishna water to AP indirectly hinting that she will not allow her brother and AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy to construct Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and Pothireddypadu expansion on river Krishna which are strongly opposed by Telangana government.

Samithi activists expressed anger at Sharmila for supporting Telangana despite she being ‘Rayalaseema bidda’.

Jagan is taking up projects on Krishna to solve irrigation and drinking water problems in Rayalaseema but Sharmila is trying to convert Rayalaseema into a desert by opposing Jagan’s projects, Ssmithi activists alleged.

They warned Sharmila of severe consequences if she hurts the interests of AP in general and Rayalaseema in particular.

The protest led to clash between Sharmila supporters and Samithi activists.

Police rushed to the spot, dispersed the mob and brought situation under control.

Sharmila’s biggest test: Will she be Andhra ‘Bidda’ or Telangana ‘Kodalu?’

0

YS Sharmila must now have been realising that politics, after all, is no easy game. It is not just a couple of protests, slew of catchy slogans and some optics. Even before her party is formally launched and is christened, she faces the biggest challenge. The challenge is whether she wants to be Telangana’s kodalu (daughter-in-law) or Andhra’s Bidda (daughter). The choice is tough and any option she chooses is going to annoy the others.

With water war raging between Telangana and AP over Krishna waters, Sharmila has a very difficult choice. For someone who wants the people to recognise as Telangana Kodalu, she cannot go against Telangana interests. She has to side with the Telangana people and oppose Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, which was her father’s dream and brother’s target. She has to speak against the interests of Rayalaseema, her home. She has to join the chorus of Telangana politicians and say that YSR was a ‘donga’ (thief) and Jagan a ‘gajadonga’ (dacoit), who are taking away Telangana’s ‘rightful’ share of Krishna water.

If she supports Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project, then she will have to face anger of the Telagnanites. Her party will suffer heavily in Telangana. Even some of her close confidants may leave her. It would be a big jolt to her political dreams.

One option available to her is that she could play mediator between both Telagnana and Andhra Pradesh and bring about an amicable settlement to the vexed water dispute. But, why would KCR listen to her? At the same time, she had come to Telangana only because of her differences with YS Jagan. So, will Jagan pay heed to her? Thus, Sharmila faces the biggest challenge of her political life, even before her political party is launched. How she would act would decide her future. Let’s wait and watch what she does?

TRS gives twist to Sharmila’s Huzurnagar tour!

1

YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who announced to launch her “YSR Telangana Party” on July 8 in Telangana, is currently undertaking “Odarpu Yatra” in Telangana districts to console families who lost their kin due to lack of jobs and failure of TRS government in releasing job notifications.

Sharmila is undertaking these yatras to bring her party closer to people ahead of her party’s launch in July.

However, the ruling TRS government is creating hurdles to Sharmila under some pretext or the other. She is being stopped by police midway on the grounds of flouting Covid norms by travelling in big convoys.

On Wednesday, Sharmila toured Huzurnagar constituency. She was supposed to console the family of Neelakanti Sai in Medaram village.

Sai recently attempted suicide allegedly due to lack of job and failure of TRS government in issuing job notifications for the last three years. But he was admitted to the hospital later where he recovered.

However, when Sharmila arrived at his home, she was shocked to see his home locked.

Sharmila’s supporters alleged that TRS leaders shifted Sai and his family members to an unknown location and locked up his house after coming to know that Sharmila is visiting his home.

They raised slogans against KCR and TRS. However, Sharmila continued her tour in front of his locked house by holding a meeting with unemployed youth in the village.

She promised that she will issue job notifications to fill 2 lakh vacancies in government departments after her party comes to power in Telangana in December 2023 Assembly polls and appealed to Telangana youth not to commit suicides.

Simmering discontent in Sharmila’s party even before its launch!

1

YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is yet to launch her political party in Telangana but her party is already witnessing simmering differences between leaders and cadre.

While Sharmila is undertaking yatras in Telangana districts at present to reach out to the people before officially launching her “YSR Telangana Party” on July 8 on the occasion of her father late YSR’s birth anniversary, the cracks are surfacing in the party due to group politics of leaders.

The party is said to have been split into Sharmila Group and Indira Shobhan group.

Indira Shobhan, a noted woman leader in Telangana Congress quit the party and joined Sharmila party soon after Sharmila announced to launch her party in Telangana.

Indira Shobhan is accused of encouraging ‘group politics’ in Sharmila party by ensuring that only Indira’s followers get posts in adhoc committees constituted by Sharmila ahead of her party launch on July 8.

This made Sharmila’s supporters in the party angry.

On Tuesday, Sharmila’s supporters sat on dharna in front of Sharmila’s residence in Lotus Pond, Hyderabad, to protest against Indira Shobhan encouraging only her supporters in the party and sidelining Sharmila’s supporters.

They said if Sharmila fails to check group politics, her party will vanish from Telangana very soon.

It remains to be seen how Sharmila keeps group politics under control that surfaced even before the launch of her party.

Sharmila invites Etela into her party!

1

YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who recently registered her party’s name “YSR Telangana Party” with the Election Commission of India, has invited sacked Telangana health minister Etela Rajender into her party.

Sharmila extended invitation to Rajender while addressing her party’s functionaries at her Lotus Pond residence in Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Sharmila held a meeting with her party’s key leaders of all districts in Telangana to discuss her party’s political strategy ahead of party’s formal launch in Telangana on July 8 on the occasion of her late YSR’s birth anniversary.

Sharmila discusses at length with her followers on taking up state-wide padayatra soon after party’s launch to bring party closer to people and expose the failures of TRS government over the past seven years.

Sharmila wants to attract students, youth and unemployed during her padayatra by focussing on KCR’s government’s failures in issuing job notifications though nearly 2 lakh vacancies exist in various government departments.

Sharmila said Etela is joining BJP to save himself from cases filed by KCR government.

She said it has become common to file cases against those who leave TRS and it has also become common for those who face cases to join BJP.

Sharmila said they would always welcome Etela if he wants to join her party.

Jagan’s sister Sharmila to launch Telangana Party on July 8

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y.S. Sharmila will be launching her political party in Telangana next month.

Named ‘YSR Telangana Party’, it will be launched on July 8, the birth anniversary of her father and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

Party coordinator Vaduka Rajagopal said on Monday that the process for registration of YSR Telangana Party with the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been completed.

Rajagopal filed an application with the ECI seeking its registration. The poll panel had issued a notification, seeking objections if any to the registration of YSR Telangana Party.

Y.S. Vijayalakshmi, honorary president of the YSR Congress Party, informed the Commission that she has no objection to registration of YSR Telangana Party.

Vijayalakshmi was present when her daughter Sharmila announced at a public meeting at Khammam on April 9 that she will be launching a new political party in Telangana.

While Jagan Mohan Reddy is said to be opposed to his sister floating a new party, Vijayalakshmi had appealed to people of Telangana to bless Sharmila with their support.

Rajagopal said after receiving the letter from ECI about recognition of YSR Telangana Party, they would announce more details about the party.

He said Sharmila was launching the new party to bring back the welfare rule of her late father YSR and to carry forward his ideals.

Sharmila will be unveiling the name, flag and agenda of the new party on July 8.

Addressing the meeting at Khammam, she vowed to bring back ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ in Telangana.

‘Rajanna Rajyam’ is referred to the rule of YSR when several welfare and pro-poor schemes were implemented.

YSR was the chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh from 2004 to 2009.

YSR’s daughter had said she was launching the party to question those in power and to fulfill the aspirations of Telangana movement and for self-respect of Telangana.

Sharmila has been holding meetings since March with YSR loyalists from various districts in Telangana to take their feedback before announcing her political plans.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led by Jagan Mohan Reddy has already admitted that there is difference of opinion between the brother and sister over the latter’s political ambitions in Telangana.

YSRCP had won one MP and three MLA seats in the old undivided Khammam district in the maiden Assembly elections in Telangana in 2014.

However, YSRCP became inactive in Telangana after its MP and all three MLAs joined ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Jagan Mohan Reddy, who led YSRCP to power in Andhra Pradesh in 2019, decided to stay away from Telangana politics. His party did not contest 2018 Assembly elections and subsequent polls in Telangana.

BJP to make Sharmila next AP CM, not Bharati: RK

0

The political developments in Andhra Pradesh are spiraling out of control. The court cases are threatening to destabilize the ruling YSRCP one by one. Not a day is passing without some court or the other making serious comments against the decisions of the Jaganmohan Reddy regime. The immediate threat is from the bail cancellation case in the CBI court. The use of ‘third degree’ allegedly on the rebel MP is creating controversies in Delhi.

The situation has come to such a sorry pass that the Modi-Shah are no longer likely to take a lenient view of the AP political scene. Considering the serious nature of the cases, the AP CM may even lose his bail in the CBI court. The BJP Delhi leaders are now discussing this question and how to formulate a super strategy to get a grip on the AP politics.

ABN Radha Krishna says that the Modi-Shah are not going to let Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy’s wife Bharati to become the next Chief Minister of AP. If that happens, Mr. Jagan Reddy would continue to retain firm grip over the AP administration. The BJP’s strategy is to use the Tamil Nadu strategy in AP too. They have successfully removed the influence of Sasikala in the AIADMK politics.

Now, the Modi-Shah plan is to bring Sharmila as Jagan’s successor to AP in order to weaken the YSRCP from within. RK says the BJP will totally change its tactics once the CM bail cancellation becomes an inevitability.

YS Sharmila registers “YSR Telangana Party” with Election Commission!

2

YS Sharmila registers “YSR Telangana Party” with Election Commission!

YS Sharmila, the daughter of former Chief Minister of Undivided AP late YS Rajashekar Reddy and sister of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy who announced her plans to launch a political party of her own in Telangana has registered her party name as “YSR Telangana Party”.

Though Sharmila announced on April 9 in Khammam public meeting that she will announce the name and flag of her party on July 8 on the occasion of YSR’s birth anniversary, her party name became public on Thursday after Election Commission of India published a notice in an English Daily stating that a political party is proposed to be registered by the name of YSR Telangana Party and if anyone has any objection to the registration they may send their objections with reasons to ECI by June 16, 2021.

Interestingly, the party was registered by Vaduka Raja Gopal, a resident of Yousufguda in Hyderabad.

Raja Gopal is known to be the prime follower of Sharmila.

It has now become clear that Sharmila’s party name is YSR Telangana Party even before the official launch of the party by her on July 8.

Sharmila attack on KCR, KTR triggers counter attacks

2

YS Sharmila, who became active in Telangana politics, targetted the TRS Government on the issue of the Coronavirus epidemic. She has said that KCR and KTR are not turning blind eyes to the problems of the people. The Chief Minister and his son are turning a deaf ear to the plight of Covid patients.

Sharmila deplored that a Rs. 3,500 worth remdesivir injection is being sold in black market at Rs. 40,000 and above. But the father and son are not taking any action.

The criticism launched by Sharmila triggered a counter attack which was directed at her brother Jaganmohan Reddy’s regime in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. The critics began asking her whether it was not a fact that her brother was giving greater problems to the AP people. This was why thousands of Covid patients were coming to Hyderabad for proper treatment on a daily basis.

They also asked Sharmila why she was not talking about the more than 20,000 Covid cases and nearly 90 deaths taking place in AP everyday under the Jagan regime.

YS Sharmila ends 72-hour deeksha, says will become TS CM in 2 years

YS Sharmila has ended her 72-hour deeksha (hunger strike) in Hyderabad on Sunday (today) demanding TRS government to release job notifications to fill 1.91 lakh posts in various government departments.

The TRS government permitted her to hold deeksha only for 24 hours at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad. However, she continued the deeksha even after 24 hours.

With this police forcibly removed her from Dharna Chowk and shifted her to her residence in Lotus Pond, Banjara Hills in Hyderabad.

However, Sharmila continued her deeksha for remaining 48 hours at her residence. Her health deteriorated with sugar and BP levels coming down in the tests conducted by doctors. However, she refused to end her deeksha before 72 hours.

As soon as she ended for 72-hour deeksha today, Sharmila said that she will launch her political party in Telangana on July 8 and her party will come to power in 2023 Assembly polls.

Sharmila said she will become Telangana CM in two years and issue job notifications to fill all the vacancies in government departments and urged Telangana youth not to commit suicides for job notifications.

She lashed out at CM KCR for cheating unemployed youth by not issuing job notifications for the last seven years which resulted in several youth committing suicides.

Sharmila said over 40 lakh unemployed youth are waiting for jobs in Telangana but KCR had miserably failed in providing employment to youth who sacrificed their lives for Telangana statehood and on whose sacrifices KCR became CM.

Parties in Telangana on alert to prevent poaching of leaders by Sharmila!

1

YS Sharmila, the daughter of late CM YS Rajashekar Reddy and the sister of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy is facing allegations of trying to bribe leaders of various political parties in Telangana to join her political party to be launched on July 8.

Speculations are rife that Sharmila wants to utilise the remaining three months’ time before launching her party to lure as many noted Telangana leaders as possible into her party.

These speculations gain credence with prominent Congress leader from Warangal Konda Murali claiming that he got a phone call from Sharmla to join her party and she offered several crores of rupees to him in return.

Konda Murali and his wife Konda Surkha were staunch followers of YSR when they were in Congress. They remained staunch supporters of Jagan even after YSR’s death and participated in Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra in Telangana.

But after Jagan decided to confine himself to AP politics after launching YSRCP in 2011, differences cropped up between Jagan and Konda couple. They joined TRS later but quit TRS before 2018 December Assembly polls and joined Congress.

Konda Murali said he had rejected Sharmila’s offer and vowed to work in Congress saying that they had supported Jagan earlier when he was in jail but Jagan ignored them after coming out of jail.

Konda’s remarks on Sharmila created a stir in Telangana politics. Now all the parties are on high alert to prevent the poaching of their leaders by Sharmila.

Sharmila undertakes fast to demand jobs for Telangana youth

Y.S. Sharmila, who plans to launch a new political party in Telangana in July this year, undertook a day-long fast here on Thursday to demand issuance of job notifications by the state government for the unemployed youth of Telangana.

Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, sat on the fast at the Dharna Chowk in Indira Park here.

Speaking on the occasion, she questioned the silence of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao over the suicides by the unemployed youth, saying the CM should respond to the burning problem.

Sharmila, the daughter of former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, said that she would stand with the unemployed youth who are seeking jobs.

“Whether other opposition parties speak for you or not, I will stand by you,” she told the youth.

She said fasts and protests will continue across the state till the state government issues job notifications to fill the vacancies in various government departments.

She also alleged that dejected over the delay in job notifications, unemployed youth are ending their lives but the Chief Minister is neglecting the issue.

Recalling that the youth were in the forefront of the movement for statehood to Telangana, she demanded that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government should fulfil their aspirations by providing them jobs.

“There are 1.91 lakh vacancies in the state and the government should fill them first,” Sharmila said, as she appealed to the youth not to resort to suicides, assuring them that she would lead the fight to put pressure on the government to issue job notifications.

Sharmila had sought permission for a three-day fast, but the Hyderabad police granted only a day’s permission. Unemployed youth, students and leaders of various groups met her during the fast and expressed their solidarity.

Sharmila undertook the fast a week after addressing a public meeting at Khammam, where she announced that she will launch a political party on July 8, the birth anniversary of her father.

She said she would unveil the flag of the new party, its name and ideology on July 8.

The public meeting at Khammam was also addressed by Sharmila’s mother Y.S. Vijayamma, who appealed to the people to bless her daughter with their support.

Vijayamma also shared the dais with Sharmila at Thursday’s fast.

An interesting incident at the fast venue caught the attention of all and triggered speculation. While asking a video camerapersons to move aside, Sharmila remarked that Sakshi (the media house owned by her brother) will not give her coverage. Vijayamma, who was sitting next to her, was apparently taken aback. She immediately pat her with her hand in an obvious signal to stop.

Sharmila has been holding meetings with loyalists of her late father in Telangana for more than a month now as part of the preparations to float her political party in Telangana.

Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has already made it clear that its leader Jagan Mohan Reddy has difference of opinion with his sister’s plan to enter Telangana politics and launch a new party.

Telangana police shocker to YS Sharmila

1

YS Sharmila, who announced to launch her political party in Telangana on July 8, has decided to hit the streets against TRS government from now itself.

However, Telangana police gave a shocker to Sharmila by giving permission to hold only one-day deeksha against TRS government.

It may be recalled that Sharmila had announced to be sit on three-day deeksha (hunger strike) from April 15 to 18 at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park in Hyderabad demanding TRS government to issue job notifications to fill 1.91 lakh vacancies in government departments.

Sharmila applied for police permission for this.

However, Telangana police gave permission for Sharmila to hold deeksha only for a day on November 15 from 10 am to 5 pm.

Sharmila is now planning to continue the remaining two days deeksha at her Lotus Pond residence in Hyderabad.

Sharmila said her fight against TRS government will continue till KCR releases job notifications to fill 1.91 lakh job notifications.

TRS, BJP fires on YS Sharmila

0

The ruling TRS and BJP in Telangana have lashed out at YS Sharmila for her outburst at Khammam on Friday.

Sharmila held a public meeting in Khammam to announce the launch of her political party in Telangana on July 8 on the occasion of her father YSR’s jayanthi

Sharmila tore into TRS, BJP and Congress while delivering her speech in Khammam.

She termed KCR as “Dora” and Telangana as “slave” and said Telangana is crushed under KCR’s feet like a slave (baanisa) is crushed under Dora’s feet.

Sharmila described BJP as a ‘communal party’ saying that the party has nothing to speak about except Hindu religion and raking up communal passions for political gains.

The TRS and BJP reacted sharply to Sharmila’s comments on Saturday.

TRS senior leader and chairman of Telangana Legislative Council Gutha Sukender Reddy fired at Sharmila for her statement that she will bring “Rajanna Rajyam” in Telangana.

Gutha said Telangana people suffered a lot under Rajanna Rajyam as it is identified with land grabbings in and around Hyderabad, looting of Telangana water from Godavari and Krishna rivers, rowdyism, goondaism etc and Telangana people will never allow any party that has Andhra roots in Telangana.

Telangana people had already buried Andhra party TDP in Telangana and Sharmila’s party will also meet the same fate. He said few Andhra leaders like Sharmila are attempting to rule Telangana again and loot Telangana resources.

The BJP condemned Sharmila’s remarks saying that YSR family itself is communal as it promotes Christianity and Bible.

BJP leader NVSS Prabhakar questioned why Sharmila talked about YSR providing 4% reservations to Muslims on communal grounds when she was accusing BJP as communal.

Sharmila to launch new political party in Telangana

0

Y.S. Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Friday announced that she will be floating a new political party in Telangana.

Announcing her political foray into Telangana at a public meeting at Khammam, she vowed to bring back the golden rule of her late father Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, late Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh (2004-09).

She said she will unveil the name, flag and agenda of the new party on YSR’s birth anniversary (July 8).

Sharmila’s mother Y.S. Vijayamma shared the dais with her and appealed to people to bless Sharmila with their support.

Sharmila said she is taking a small step with ‘Sankapa Sabha’ to follow into the footsteps of her late father. She recalled that it was on this day (April 9) 18 years ago that YSR “sowed the seeds of his golden rule with ‘Praja Prasthanam’ padyatra”.

YSR’s daughter said she was launching the party to question those in power and to fulfil the aspirations of Telangana movement and for the self-respect of Telangana. She also slammed opposition Congress and BJP, saying they have failed in their duty to question the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government.

While paying tributes to those who laid down their lives to achieve statehood to Telangana, Sharmila wanted to know why suicides were continuing even after the formation of Telangana.

She alleged that the TRS government has not issued a single new ration card or sanctioned a new pension. She said the government also failed to give land to poor.

Sharmila reminded Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao about his promise of KG to PG free education. She also hit out at BJP-led government at the Centre for going back on the promises made to Telangana.

She also lashed out at those who are questioning her roots. Sharmila said whether somebody accepts or not, she is daughter of Telangana and will remain so. “I grew up on this land. Is it wrong if I want to pay back to this land,” she asked.

Earlier, Sharmila left Hyderabad for Khammam on Friday morning in a big convoy of vehicles.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, has already admitted that there is difference of opinion between the brother and sister over the latter’s political ambitions in Telangana.

‘Sankalpa Sabha’ was the first public meeting of Sharmila ever since she announced that she plans to float a political party in Telangana.

For more than a month, Sharmila has been holding meetings with YSR loyalists from various districts in Telangana to take their feedback before announcing her political plans.

She vowed try to bring back ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ (a reference to pro-poor and welfare regime of YSR) in Telangana.

Composite Khammam district is considered politically significant. Sharmila had extensively toured the district during her “Maro Praja Prasthanam”, a state-wide walkathon, in 2013 to mobilise support for her brother who was then in jail in disproportionate assets case.

The YSRCP had won one MP’s and three MLA’s seats in the old undivided Khammam district in the maiden Assembly elections in Telangana in 2014.

Sharmila leaves for Khammam to unveil political plans

3

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y.S. Sharmila left Hyderabad for Khammam on Friday in a big convoy of vehicles to address a public meeting, where she is likely to announce her political plans.

Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, began the journey from her residence Lotus Ponds in Banjara Hills along with dozens of vehicles of her supporters.

She stopped at Panjagutta in the city to garland the statue of YSR, as her late father was popularly known. YSR loyalists have planned grand welcome to Sharmila at eight places enroute Khammam.

She will reach the venue of the meeting in a huge rally in the evening. She is expected to announce the name of her political party and future plans at the meeting titled ‘Sankalpa Sabha’.

The police have given permission for conducting the meeting on the condition that the organizers will ensure adherence to Covid-19 rules.

Sharmila’s mother Y.S. Vijayamma will also attend the meeting. Her participation will be significant as Jagan Mohan Reddy is not in favour of his sister floating a political party in Telangana.

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) led by Jagan Mohan Reddy has already admitted that there is difference of opinion between the brother and sister over the latter’s political ambitions in Telangana.

She vowed to try to bring back ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ (a reference to pro-poor and welfare regime of YSR) in Telangana.

YSR loyalists believed that Khammam meeting will prove to be a turning point in Telangana’s politics as Sharmila is expected to make some key announcements.

Sharmila slams Telangana CM over ‘lack of development’ in Medak

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y.S. Sharmila on Wednesday trained her guns on Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao over “drought-prone” mandals in his home district Medak.

Sharmila, who is planning to float a political party in Telangana, addressed a meeting of loyalists of her late father and former undivided Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy from the district.

Addressing the meeting at her residence in Hyderabad, she said in the CM’s home district, 20 mandals are drought-prone. “What should be the level of development in united Medak district represented by the Chief Minister but what is happening there now,” she asked, claiming people of the district were facing water scarcity while farmers were suffering the most.

Sharmila alleged that farmers who had given their lands for Mallanna Sagar project were protesting. She also claimed that lands of Dalits were acquired forcibly.

She asserted that had Rajasekhara Reddy been alive, Medak district would have seen more development. Sharmila also claimed that due to construction of Outer Ring Road around Hyderabad by Rajasekhara Reddy, Medak witnessed rapid development.

Sharmila said she was pained to learn that a youth who had fought for statehood to Telangana recently attempted suicide as he was depressed over not getting a job.

The meeting was the latest in a series of consultations she is having with YSR loyalists from various parts of Telangana before announcing her political plans.

Sharmila has already admitted that she has difference of opinion with her brother Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is not in favour of launching a party in Telangana.

YSR Congress Party led by Jagan Mohan Reddy is confined to Andhra Pradesh and the party is not keen to revive its activities in the neighbouring Telugu state.

YS Sharmila, the daughter of late AP Chief Minister YS Rajashekar Reddy and sister of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday (today) announced that she will contest from Palair Assembly seat (Paleru) in Khammam district in Telangana Assembly elections to be held in December 2023.

Sharmila made this announcement during the meeting with her supporters and loyalists of YSR from Khammam district at her Lotus Pond residence in Hyderabad.

It may be recalled that Sharmila is preparing ground to launch her own political party in Telangana and holding district-wise meetings with supporters of her and YSR since February this year.

Sharmila had already announced that she will launch her political party by holding a mega public rally in Khammam on April 9. In the meeting she will announce party’s name, symbol and flag.

She said Palair Assembly seat for her is like Pulivendula Assembly seat for her father YSR.

However, uncertainty surrounds over Sharmila’s public meeting in Khammam on April 9 in the backdrop of increasing covid cases in Telangana.

Doubts are being raised whether Telangana government will permit this meeting citing Covid restrictions.
