Tollywood 2024 First Quarter Report

Tollywood had a decent first quarter for 2024. Sankranthi witnessed a tough fight and Hanuman was the surprise. The film emerged as a massive hit despite releases like Guntur Kaaram, Saindhav and Naa Saami Ranga. Prasanth Varma and Teja Sajja gained star status with the film’s success. Mahesh Babu managed to pull the crowds with Guntur Kaaram and Trivikram’s work was badly criticized. Considering the financials involved, the film cannot be called a hit. Venkatesh took action mode and his film Saindhav ended up as a massive debacle. Nagarjuna’s Naa Saami Ranga managed to bring audience to the theatres during the Sankranthi season.

Post Sankranthi, a bunch of small budget films released and none of them impressed the audience. Yatra 2 failed to get minimum footfalls. Ravi Teja delivered one more disaster through Eagle. Sundeep Kishan delivered a decent hit with Ooru Peru Bhairavakona. Ravi Teja’s production Sundaram Master featuring Viva Harsha also failed to impress the audience. Vennela Kishore’s interesting attempt Chari 111 ended up as a massive disaster. Varun Tej delivered one more disaster with Operation Valentine. The film was badly rejected by the audience.

Gopichand’s mass film Bhimaa got decent openings but the poor word of mouth killed the film completely. Vishwak Sen’s Gaami received appreciations and the film did decent at the box-office. Razakar received good appreciation but the audience showed no interest in the film. Sree Vishnu’s Om Bheem Bush ended up as a below average flick. Siddhu Jonnalagadda scored a super hit with Tillu Square and the film is going strong. March ended up on a great note with Tillu Square.

Among the dubbed films, Premalu impressed youth and made good revenues in urban regions. Rajamouli’s son SS Karthikeya released the Malayalam film in Telugu.

Teja Sajja surpasses South Stars

Teja Sajja spent more than two years on Hanuman and the film has been declared as an all-time blockbuster. The actor is not in a hurry and he will feature in the sequel of Hanuman that will roll soon. The team is currently in USA promoting Hanuman. Teja Sajja surpassed several top South Indian actors and he emerged as the most searched South Indian celebrity on Wikipedia for the month of January this year. This is surely a great achievement for a young actor like Teja Sajja.

While Teja Sajja is on the top of the list, Prabhas, Mahesh Babu, Vijay and Kamal Haasan are in the top five. Nani, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mammootty, Dhanush and Chiranjeevi made it to the top ten. Hanuman is still doing decent business across the Telugu states while the other Sankranthi releases ended their run.

Prasanth Varma has bigger plans for Jai Hanuman

Hanuman is one of the biggest hits of Telugu cinema among the small films. Prasanth Varma is now a sensation and the talented director announced Jai Hanuman. The pre-production work of the film is happening currently and it would be a challenging task for Prasanth Varma because of the expectations on the film. Prasanth Varma is not in a hurry and he will take his time to finalize the lead actors. Niranjan Reddy who produced Hanuman is on board to produce the sequel too. The team is also looking for collaborations to make the project bigger.

Several Bollywood actors are considered and Prasanth Varma will take a call on this very soon. The film will have two top actors playing Lord Rama and Lord Hanuman in the sequel. Prasanth Varma also recently said that he would approach Megastar Chiranjeevi for the role of Lord Hanuman and he said that Superstar Mahesh Babu would be the apt one to reprise Lord Rama. Teja Sajja will reprise his role in Jai Hanuman. The budget is now revised and Prasanth Varma has a big task ahead. He will repeat the same technical crew for Jai Hanuman.

HanuMan heading for an International Release

HanuMan is a massive hit across the country and the film recently grossed more than Rs 200 crores. HanuMan is expected to have a strong run in theatres in the coming weeks. The film’s producer announced that the film will also have an international release in many foreign languages. As per the update, HanuMan will soon release in English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and other international languages.

The team of HanuMan are currently in planning mode and the release dates will be announced soon. The makers have already dubbed the film in those international languages. They are in talks to tie up with several top studios to get a huge release. HanuMan is a superhero film directed by Prasanth Varma and the film featured Teja Sajja in the lead role. Prasanth Varma also announced Jai Hanuman which will be made on a larger scale and the film will release in 2025.

Hanuman 10 days Worldwide Collections – Nears 200 cr mark

Hanuman had a sensational second weekend as the film added a gross of 58 Cr. The total gross of the film now stands at 197 Cr. Distributor share of the film stands at 102.6 Cr. It’s a universal blockbuster in AP/TS and might create some records in the full run. On its 10th day, the film has recorded the biggest-ever collection for a Non-SSR film. It’s doing excellent business in Karnataka & Good in Karnataka too. Tamil Nadu is okay but Kerala is very low.

In the overseas markets, the film has collected more than 5.5 Million of which 4.48 Million came from North America.

Hanu-Man’s Huge Donation To Ram Mandir

The original superhero film Hanu-Man is creating waves in theatres worldwide. Directed by Prasanth Varma and starring Teja Sajja in the titular role, the movie which made a massive business in its first week, is unstoppable in its second week. Hanu-Man not only surpassed many BO records but has also garnered acclaim for its philanthropic efforts towards Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir.

The makers kept their promise by donating Rs 5 from each ticket sold. While they donated Rs 14,85,810 from premiere shows, they have now announced a donation of Rs 2,66,41,055 from 53,28,211 tickets sold hitherto for Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Hanuman had an outstanding first week with a worldwide distributor share of 74.3 Cr. Gross of the film stands at 138.7 Cr. On Its opening day including premieres the film grossed 23 Cr and after 7 days it stands at 138.7 which is a 6x multiplier in 7 days. The trend is outstanding in the Telugu Version right from AP/TS to Overseas. The Hindi version trending is decent though a lot more has to be done by the film which so much room left.

Hanuman has another excellent day at the boxoffice as it has added a worldwide gross of 16.5 Cr on its 5th day. Total gross stands at 111.6 Cr . Distributor share of the film stands at 59.6 Cr which is an outstanding number. The film had its single biggest day in AP/Ts and held very well in remaining areas including North India. It is trending well again today ie, 6th day and is heading towards the 150 cr mark which it will breach in its second weekend.

Why is Hanu Man a Bigger Blockbuster?

Hanu Man is a small film when compared to the Sankranthi releases Guntur Kaaram, Saindhav and Naa Saami Ranga. But the film surpassed all the biggies and is racing towards one of the biggest hits of Telugu cinema. Hanu Man is a superhero film but Prasanth Varma made sure that the film had all the ingredients. From hilarious entertainment to a hard-hitting emotional drama, Hanu Man impressed all the sections. Family audience and kids are rushing to theatres to watch this film.

Hanu Man is also high on VFX and the visuals are extremely appealing. The background score elevated the film well. The last 20 minutes of Hanu Man is a treat. Prasanth Varma should be appreciated for bringing a quality film in the given budget. Teja Sajja played his part well and he sounded apt in the title role which is also an asset for Hanu Man. The devotional touch is the other asset for Hanu Man. The film’s producer Niranjan Reddy should be appreciated for believing in Prasanth Varma and Teja Sajja. Even after several restrictions for theatres, Hanu Man is doing fantastic business.

The film is also performing well in North India and Hanu Man will emerge as a king size blockbuster in the USA. The team also announced a sequel titled Jai Hanuman and the film releases next year.

Hanu Man that released for Sankranthi is doing fantastic business all over and is surpassing Sankranthi biggies. Prasanth Varma and Teja Sajja teamed up for the second time and they worked on the project for more than two years. After ample delays and budget hikes, the team locked the release date and Hanu Man is a blockbuster. He waited for the film’s release and did not announce any new project. Prasanth Varma is the man behind this mighty blockbuster and his work is appreciated from all the corners. The film’s producer Niranjan Reddy should also be appreciated for backing and believing two talented youngsters: Prasanth Varma and Teja Sajja. The VFX work, visuals, background score and the direction along with Teja’s portrayal as Hanu Man is receiving superb response. The sequel Jai Hanu Man will release next year.

Hanuman has taken an excellent opening in the Telugu States with a distributor share of 6.9 Cr. This share includes Premieres which were screened from 6pm on the 11th. Occupancies are brilliant from the film hitting capacities at many centres and the demand is still very high. It started with more than 80% on the second day and the advances are already full for the day at many centres.

Teja Sajja and Prashanth Varma are working on a superhero film from a long time. Their film Hanu Man is a small attempt among the Sankranthi films but the pre-release sales are exceptional. Hanu Man also has a devotional touch and the makers spent lavishly on the VFX work. Amritha is the leading lady and Niranjan Reddy is the producer. Hanu Man is heading for a clash with Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram in Telugu and the film is also having a record release in Hindi. Here is the review of Hanu Man

Hanumanthu (Teja Sajja) is a youngster who leads a peaceful life in the region of Anjanadri and he is a weak person. His sister Anjamma (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar) loves him so much and she stays single for him. The entire region is ruled by the Palegallu and they are habitual of crimes against those who raise their voice. In an unexpected twist, Hanumanthun gets superpowers and the entire village will be left in shock. On the other side, Micheal (Vijay Rai) has desire to attain super powers. He is a criminal who kills his parents during his childhood days. He comes to know about the power of Anjanadri and the rest of Hanu Man is what happens next. The film also discusses the clash between Hanumanthu and Micheal and the role of Lord Hanuman.

Analysis:

Hanu Man is a regular template of a common man getting super powers. The new element is Lord Hanuman turning the power of Hanumanthu. There are no logics needed for a socio fantasy film and when the film has the touch of Lord Hanuman, the film turns a devotional one. The story starts with the introduction of Micheal’s character and it raises curiosity about how the superpowers can be misused. The story then shifts to Anjanadri and it narrates about the domination of Palegallu.

Soon, Hanumanthu gets the superpower and the film turns racy. He uses the powers when needed and all those episodes are impressive. There is not much drama needed for fantasy films. Hanu Man is a film that banks of visualization and full marks for Prashanth Varma for presenting Hanu Man in the most impressive manner. The region of Anjanadri ws presented well along with the waterfalls and the huge idol of Lord Hanuman. The heroic acts of Hanumanthu after he gets the superpowers are very impressive.

Some of the action episodes are presented well. The climax episodes are highly impressive and they reveal about the visual sense of Prashanth Varma. Getting the best output of VFX and CG shots are a risky task and Prashanth Varma handled them well and he got the desired output. Samuthirakani as Vibhushanudu narrating about the greatness of Lord Hanuman is sure a goosebumps moment. The audience will remind about the Anupam Kher’s episode from Karthikeya 2. Satya managed to entertain the audience at times.

Hanu Man also has its flaws. There is a big question of why Lord Hanuman comes to resolve the problems of Anjanadri. The issues are restricted to the village of Anjanadri. Prashanth Varma also hinted about the sequel of Hanu Man titled Jai Hanuman. The team brings the link of Ramayana through the dialogues of Vibhushanudu. There are curious moments of Lord Sriram’s promise for Lord Hanuman and all these answers would unfold in Jai Hanuman.

Performances:

Teja Sajja is transforming himself for every film. There was a question of Teja Sajja fitting into a superhero film. But Hanu Man is an apt film for the youngster and he made a right move by picking the film. The role is a tailormade one for Teja Sajja and his look, performance are impressive. Varalaxmi Sarathkumar’s role was well designed and she surprised in an action episode. Vinay Rai looks stylish and his role should have designed well. All the other actors are ok.

Hanu Man is a wow film when it comes to technical standards. The visuals and the background score added life to the film. The action episodes are done well and this would be a turning point film for the music composer Hari Gowra. The film’s producer Niranjan Reddy should be appreciated for believing the vision of Prashanth Varma and betting big on an actor named Teja Sajja. Prashanth Varma did his part well and his vision was well presented on screen. Hanu Man will impress the Telugu audience and it would be a huge boost if Hanu Man does well in the North Indian belt.

On the whole, Hanu Man is an impressive film that makes a good watch during Sankranthi season.

Top producer Dil Raju responded about the recent controversy of Sankranthi releases. Hanu Man has been getting lesser screens in Nizam region after most of them will screen Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram. As Dil Raju is releasing Guntur Kaaram in Nizam region, he was cornered and his name was dragged into the controversy. Dil Raju, the President of Film Chamber conducted meetings with the producers of all the Sankranthi releases. Some of the web portals turned over enthusiastic and wrote bad about Dil Raju.

The top producer responded on a strong note and warned the websites. He even challenged them for an open debate with the producers who are suffering to get theatres during the Sankranthi season. “It took me years to reach this place and I am targeted for every Sankranthi. This is happening from the past 7-8 years. Chiranjeevi garu openly admitted that Dil Raju is experienced and he knows how to handle things. But some of the websites turned the news as per their comfort for their benefits. Do they think Dil Raju is soft? Thaata Teestha (” told Dil Raju.

“95 percent of the people like me and I cannot satisfy everyone. Everyone knows that Dil Raju is a brand. Some of the websites and YouTube channels are making a controversy from this for Sankranthi which is not right. I was the one who arranged a meeting in Film Chamber and requested Ravi Teja to move out of Sankranthi race. This is a difficult task. Some of them wrote that Dil Raju is distributing a Tamil film which is untrue. I am the one who postponed the Telugu release of that Tamil film” concluded Dil Raju.
