Actor Prakash Raj Faces Police Case Over Chandrayaan-3 Joke

1

Noted actor Prakash Raj has found himself entangled in a legal controversy in Karnataka’s Bagalkot district following a social media post that allegedly mocked India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission. The actor has been booked at the Banahatti police station, with a complaint lodged against him by leaders of Hindu organizations who demanded action over the post.

The source of contention is a caricature posted by Prakash Raj on a microblogging site, depicting a man in a shirt and lungi pouring tea, with the caption “First view just arrived from Chandrayaan .. #VikramLander #justasking.” This post drew swift backlash, with critics asserting that the Chandrayaan-3 mission holds significant pride for the nation. In response to the social media outrage, Prakash Raj offered a clarification on the same platform. He explained that his comment was intended as a joke and referred to a humorous allusion from the time of #Armstrong, where the focus was on celebrating a “Kerala Chaiwala.” The actor urged those who misinterpreted the joke to “GROW UP,” suggesting that the misunderstanding lies with them. But critics point out that he used the word “Chandrayaan” which is not related to Armstrong but the current mission of ISRO.

This incident underscores the fine line between humor and national sentiment, demonstrating the potential for online comments to lead to real-world legal actions. The controversy highlights the impact that social media posts can have in an era where perceptions are easily amplified and discussions can quickly turn into legal matters.

Vivek Agnihotri Vs Prakash Raj

0

Prakash Raj has recently mocked The Kashmiri files movie saying that the film is a nonsense film and it needs to be awarded the Bhaskara award and not the Oscar award. He also called the makers shameless and also criticized the director of the film Vivek Agnihotri for questioning the jury for not getting the Oscars.

Vivek Agnihotri took his Twitter and answered Prakash Raj. He wrote, “A small, people’s film #TheKashmirFiles has given sleepless nights to #UrbanNaxals so much that one of their Pidi is troubled even after one year, calling its viewers barking dogs. And Mr Andhkaar Raj, how can I get Bhaskar, she/he is all yours. Forever.”

Vivek also posted a video challenging the urban naxals and other foreign filmmakers to prove that if any single shot, event or dialogue from the film was proven wrong, he will quit making films.

TRS may send Prakash Raj to Rajya Sabha

1

Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is likely to nominate actor- politician Prakash Raj to the Rajya Sabha.

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is believed to be considering the name of Prakash Raj, who recently emerged as a key figure in the TRS President’s efforts to cobble together a national alliance.

Prakash Raj is reported to have met Chandrasekhar Rao twice at his farmhouse at Erravalli a couple of days ago. The meeting assumed significance in the wake of the series of consultations the TRS chief is having with the party leaders to select three candidates for the upcoming elections to Rajya Sabha.

The polling for one Rajya Saba seat will be held on May 30. The vacancy arose due to the resignation of Banda Prakash after he was elected to the Telangana Legislative Council. May 19 is the last date for filing of nomination.

The Election Commission on Thursday announced the schedule for two seats of the Upper House of Parliament as sitting members V. Lakshmikanta Rao and D. Srinivas will be retiring on June 21.

The election notification for the two seats will be issued on May 24. The last date for filing of nominations is May 31. Election, if necessary, will be held on June 10.

With more than 100 MLAs in 119-member Assembly, the TRS has the required strength to win all the three seats.

KCR has already announced his intention to play a key role in national politics. He is likely to nominate a couple of leaders who can help the party in playing the role.

Prakash Raj, a popular actor in south Indian films, is being seen as a key member of KCR’s team to forge a front of like-minded regional and national parties.

The actor was present during KCR’s meeting with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar in Mumbai in February.

Prakash Raj also accompanied election strategist Prashant Kishore during the latter’s visit to Mallanna Sagar reservoir in Siddipet district of Telangana in the last week of February.

A bitter critic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the actor enjoys good rapport with leaders of various parties in his home state Karnataka and also in Tamil Nadu.

This was not the first time that Prakash Raj was seen taking an active part in the political deliberations around the front.

He was also seen with KCR in 2018 when the latter held a series of meetings with leaders of various political parties to prepare ground to launch an alternate front.

Prakash Raj, who claims to be a strong believer in secularism and unity in diversity, had used various forums to launch a bitter attack on policies pursued by the Narendra Modi government since 2014. He had also taken active part in protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

He had unsuccessfully contested as an independent from Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha in 2019 elections. Last year, he suffered defeat in the election for the President of Movie Artists Association (MAA), the apex body of Telugu film industry.

Prakash Raj slams AP govt for ‘misusing’ power to stop ‘Bheemla Nayak’

0

Actor Prakash Raj has questioned the Andhra Pradesh government about the alleged misuse of power and domination towards the Telugu film industry, especially in the case of Pawan Kalyan’s latest release ‘Bheemla Nayak’.

As the actor tweeted regarding the same on Sunday, he asked the government to put an end to their unwanted domination.

Prakash Raj has called out the government of Andhra Pradesh, regarding the restrictions it has implemented in the state on movies, as in the case of Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Bheemla Nayak’.

In his hard-hitting note, the actor wrote, “#BheemlaNayak .. #GovtofAndhrapradesh please put an end to this onslaught..let cinema thrive #JustAsking”.

The multifaceted film personality also questioned the misuse of power by the Jagan government.

Prakash Raj also mentioned that no one can stop audiences’ love towards their favourite hero and movies.

In the wake of Pawan Kalyan’s ‘Bheemla Nayak’ release, the Andhra government had appointed special officer forces at the theaters, leaving everyone to turn their heads at the deeds of the ruling party.

Special Government Orders were brought in Andhra Pradesh, only to stop the movie from releasing earlier.

Even after the court opposed bringing in, the Government Order related to ticket prices in the state, the government has turned a deaf ear to it.

The whole movie industry had suffered losses at the time of the first two waves of the pandemic.

While the Telangana government assures to provide help in the favour of the industry, Andhra Pradesh’s attitude only to hit at an actor-turned-politician, has become one of the hot topics in the Telugu states.

On the other hand, the Pawan and Rana-starrer ‘Bheemla Nayak’ is reported to have broken even in the US.

Running successfully, the movie is screening for the lowest available prices in Andhra Pradesh.

Why KCR took actor Prakash Raj, Kavitha in special flight to Mumbai?

0

When TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekar Rao was boarding the special flight at Begumpet airport on Sunday morning (today) to leave for Mumbai to meet Shiv Sena chief, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thakeray and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, everyone was surprised to visuals of actor Prakash Raj and KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha boarding the flight along with KCR.

This is because KCR prefers to visit states on special flights with few ministers like Vemula Prashanth Reddy, MLCs like Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, MPs J.Santosh Kumar, K.Keshava Rao etc.

Surprisingly, actor Prakash Raj and Kavitha got a chance to fly with KCR to Mumbai on Sunday.

This raised questions over why KCR took them to Mumbai and what KCR tried to convey with this?

Speculations are rife in TRS circles that KCR wants to project himself as ‘anti-Modi’ and ‘anti-BJP’ by taking along Prakash Raj, who is known to be the strong critic of Modi and BJP at the national level. Since KCR is trying to play a key role in national politics by bringing all parties against BJP, he took Prakash Raj with him who has got a national image and reputation as a fighter against Modi and BJP.

By taking Kavitha, KCR wants to convey a message that he wants her daughter confine to national politics and not state politics as everyone is expecting after he made her MLC.

KCR wants to convey that MLC was only a ‘stop-gap arrangement’ after she lost Nizamabad Lok Sabha seat in 2019 and she will be made to contest Lok Sabha elections again from Nizamabad or any other seat in 2024. KCR wants to indicate that only his son KTR will run the political show in Telangana in TRS and government and he will not create another power centre in TRS by continuing Kavitha in state politics.

1

MAA new president Manchu Vishu on Sunday (today) approved the resignation of 11 members of Prakash Raj panel who were elected in the MAA elections held on October 12 this year.

Prakash Raj responds to language row triggered by ‘Jai Bhim’

0

Acclaimed character actor Prakash Raj has broken his silence on the slapping scene in the critically acclaimed Tamil film ‘Jai Bhim’.

Raj, who plays IG Perumalsamy, slaps a Hindi-speaking pawnbroker, who looks to use language as an instrument to obfuscate the truth and his involvement in the crime. The IG asks him to speak in Tamil. The scene did not go down well with a certain section of the audience and triggered a major debate on social media, with many expressing their displeasure on Twitter.

Tweeting the link of an interview he had given to a news channel, Prakash Raj on Saturday wrote, “Opened up on the slapping controversy of #JaiBheem and more. Do spend a few minutes to read and share … keep supporting relevant cinema … love you all #JaiBheem.”

In the interview, the actor said, “After watching a film such as ‘Jai Bhim’, they did not see the agony of the tribal people, they did not see and feel terrible about the injustice, they saw only the slap. That is all they understood; this exposes their agenda. That said, certain things have to be documented. For example, the anger of South Indians on Hindi being forced upon them.”

Explaining the relevance of the scene, Raj said: “How else will a police officer who is investigating a case react when he knows that a person who understands the local language, chooses to speak only in Hindi to dodge the interrogation? That has to be documented, right? The film is set in the 1990s. If that character had Hindi imposed on him, he would have reacted this way only. Probably if it came across as more intense, it is also because that is my thought too, and I stand by that thought.”

Replying to his critics with a strong riposte, the actor said: “For some, the slap scene irked only because it was Prakash Raj on screen. They appear more naked than me now, because their intent has been revealed.

If the pain of the tribal people did not move them, then, all I say is: ‘Unakku ivvalavuthaan purinju daha da, nee thaana avan? (Is that all you understood? Are you that kind of person?) There’s no point reacting to such bigots. You know, I came to Hindi very late. I have also given back something to that industry. It’s okay for us to have differences, we have to learn to live with them. The focus here is on the injustice. Let us be fair.”

Prakash Raj’s slapping scene in ‘Jai Bhim’ triggers debate on social media

1

A slapping scene featuring actor Prakash Raj in just-released Tamil film ‘Jai Bhim’ has triggered a massive debate on Twitter.

The scene in which Prakash Raj is shown slapping a Hindi-speaking pawn broker, asking him to speak in Tamil instead, has not gone down well with a section of the audience, who took to Twitter to express their displeasure.

One user tweeted, “I am really heartbroken after watching #JaiBhim, nothing against actor or anyone but felt really bad, there is a scene in the film where a person speaks Hindi and Prakash Raj slaps him and tells him to speak in Tamil. Honestly this kind of scene was not needed. Hope they cut it.”

“We wait for Tamil films. We support them, we request the makers to release it Pan India, in return we don’t want anything but just love. If not love then at least not humiliation,” he added.

While one segment took exception to it, another segment pointed out that the police officer’s character (played by Prakash Raj in the film) only asks the pawn broker’s character to speak in Tamil because of the latter’s efforts to use language as an instrument to obfuscate the truth and his involvement in the crime.

“The scene is not against Hindi-speaking Indians. The particular character tries to get away by speaking in Hindi (so that Prakash Raj wouldn’t understand) and knowing this strategy, he slaps him and asks him to speak in Tamil. Tamil filmmakers are not against the Hindi language ,” wrote one film critic in response to the tweet by the user.

The debate also saw some people venting their ire at actor Prakash Raj, who played the character of the police officer.

Prakash Raj says ‘there’s a deeper meaning’ behind quitting MAA

0

Actor Prakash Raj has said that there is a deeper meaning behind his resignation from Tollywood’s influential industry body, Movie Artists Association (MAA).

Thanking the members who had supported him and his panel in the just-concluded MAA elections, the acclaimed character actor tweeted: “Hi my dear MAA members who stood by us … There is a deeper meaning behind my resignation from the MAA. We as a team know we are responsible to the love n support you all have extended to us.”

Prakash Raj lost to actor-producer Manchu Vishnu in a bitterly contested election and then announced on Monday that he was quitting the MAA. “We will NEVER let you all down … will explain very soon … you will be proud of us,” he added.

The actor had quit the trade body because he was upset over what he perceived as “regionalism” during the election and the ‘tukde tukde’ gang issue being raked up in the campaign. A native of Karnataka, the multi-lingual actor said he would remain a “guest” in the industry because that what his rival panel and its supporters want him to be.

During the bitter campaign, the Vishnu panel and its supporters opposed Prakash Raj’s candidature because he’s a non-Telugu. Prakash responded by stating: “My self-respect as an artiste does not permit me to continue in the MAA.” He clarified that he would continue to act in Telugu films and maintain his relationship with the film industry and his fans.

In the election held on Sunday, Vishnu was elected MAA president defeating Prakash Raj by 109 votes. The final results declared on Monday showed that Vishnu polled 383 votes while his rival garnered 274 votes.

The Vishnu panel also won all the key posts, barring the executive vice-president, which was bagged by actor Srikanth of the Prakash Raj panel. And of the 18 slots for executive committee members, Vishnu’s panel bagged 10 and Prakash Raj supporters got the remaining eight seats.

After Prakash Raj announcing his resignation, Vishnu appealed to him not to act in an emotional and hasty way. “You are an integral part of our family. I need your ideas and we need to work together. I request you not to reply back to me now. I will meet you soon and we will discuss. I love uncle and please don’t be hasty,” the young actor wrote to Prakash Raj.

Addressing a news conference on Monday, Vishnu said he would not accept the resignations of Prakash Raj and Naga Babu, megastar Chiranjeevi’s brother, who had also announced his resignation. Chiranjeevi, in fact, had supported Prakash Raj. Naga Babu said he was pained to see regionalism and intolerance that rocked the apex body of Tollywood.

Ending day-long suspense, MAA election officer Krishna Mohan announced the poll results on Sunday night. Vishnu polled 380 votes while Prakash Raj, who was branded as non-local by some supporters of rival panel, could secure 274 votes.

A native of Karnataka, Prakash Raj acts in Telugu and other South Indian films. He had unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha election from Bangalore Central as an independent candidate in 2019.

Actor Srikanth from Prakash Raj panel was elected Executive Vice President. He defeated Babu Mohan of the Vishnu panel.

The acrimonious election was seen as a tussle between families of megastar Chiranjeevi and veteran actor Mohan Babu. Chiranjeevi’s family backed Prakash Raj while Mohan Babu actively campaigned for his son Manchu Vishnu.

Soon after the results were declared, Chiranjeevi took to Twitter to congratulate Vishnu and other members of the new body. He hoped that the new body will work for the welfare of all artists. “MAA has always been one family. No matter who wins, it’s the victory of our family,” he wrote.

Earlier speaking at a film event Chiranjeevi expressed his displeasure over the acrimony created during the MAA elections. He remarked that positions are temporary.

According to election officer, 68 per cent polling was recorded which was highest in the history of the MAA. Out of 925 members of the MAA, 883 were eligible to cast their votes and of them, 605 did do to elect 26-member body comprising the President, two Vice Presidents, Executive Vice President, General Secretary, two Joint Secretaries, Treasurer and 18 Executive Committee members.

The first result went in favour of the Prakash Raj panel when Shia Reddy was elected as executive member. This was followed by three more victories for the panel as Anasuya, Kaushik and Suresh Kondeti were also elected as executive members.

From the Vishnu panel, Poojitha, Shashank, Jayavani, U.P. Srinivasulu, Srilakshmi, Manik, Harinath Babu, and Vishnu Boppana were elected as executive members.

Actor politician Pawan Kalyan was one of the first to cast his votes. Talking to reporters, the Jana Sena president declined to name the panel he votes for saying this would amount to influencing voters. He said MAA elections would have no bearing on the friendship between his brother Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu. Pawan said the film industry will not split due to MAA polls.

Chiranjeevi’s other brother Naga Babu, however, told reporters that he cast his vote for the Prakash Raj panel.

Leading actor Balakrishna told reporters after casting his vote that Prakash Raj and Vishnu are like brothers. The actor politician, who had earlier declared his support to Vishnu, said he votes for those who will do better.

There was heated argument between the two groups and the police had to intervene to pacify them.

Mohan Babu also took exception to campaigning by Prakash Raj panel inside the booth. He urged voters to leave in five minutes after exercising their franchise. There was also heated argument between Siva Balaji and Hema.

MAA Elections: Naga Babu comes to support Prakash Raj

0

The prestigious MAA Elections will take place on October 10th in Hyderabad. There is a tough fight happening between the panels of Prakash Raj and Manchu Vishnu. Mega actor Naga Babu came out to support the panel of Prakash Raj and he addressed the media about the MAA Elections. He expressed his confidence in Prakash Raj delivering his promises made for MAA. He clarified that Prakash Raj is one of the finest actors of Indian cinema and he wants to take the responsibility of MAA despite packed schedules as an actor.

“Prakash Raj is one of the busiest actors of Telugu cinema. I asked him directly if he can dedicate time for MAA if elected as President. He replied that he is ready to lose films to work for MAA. There are people commenting that Prakash Raj is a Karnataka actor but this is not true. He is an actor who represents Indian cinema and not a single language. We have to support him as he wants to take this responsibility which is quite tough. Manchu Vishnu questioned if Prakash Raj stands in support of Pawan Kalyan or in the support of Tollywood. I am not sure about his thoughts. MAA will reach new heights only after Prakash Raj will work for three terms. He came up with different plans for the association and we are here to support him” told Naga Babu.

The battle lines are drawn for the October 10 elections for Movie Artistes Association (MAA), the apex body of Tollywood.

With CVL Narasimha Rao and K. Shravan Kumar withdrawing their nominations, actor Prakash Raj is locked in a direct fight with Vishnu Manchu for the post of MAA president.

A total of 56 candidates are in the fray for elections to 26-member body of MAA. Election officer Krishna Mohan announced the final list of candidates after the withdrawal of nominations.

Babu Mohan and Srikanth will vie for the post of MAA executive president. For the two posts of vice-presidents, actor-producer Madhala Ravi and comedian Prithviraj Bali Reddy are contesting from Vishnu panel. From Prakash Raj’s panel, Benerjee and Hema are in the fray for the same posts.

For the key post of general secretary, Jeevita Rajasekhar is contesting as a candidate from Prakash Raj’s panel. She is locked in a direct fight with Raghu Babu from Vishnu’s panel.

Bandla Ganesh had also filed his nomination for the post but withdrew from the contest on the advice of industry elders.

For the post of treasure, actor Siva Balaji (Vishnu’s panel) is pitted against Nagineedu (Prakash Raj Panel).

Character actor Karate Kalyani and comedian Gautham Raju from Vishnu’s panel will be testing their fortunes for the post of joint secretaries. Uttej, Anit Chowdary and Bacchala Srinivas are also in the fray for the two posts.

A total of 39 candidates are in the fray for 18 posts of executive members. The candidates from Vishnu’s panel for these posts are Archana (Veda), Ashok Kumar, Geeta Singh, Harinath Babu, Jayavani, Malakpeta Shailaja, Manik, Poojitha, Rajeshwari Reddy, Rekha, Sampoornesh Babu, Shashank, Sivannarayana, Silakshmi, P. Srinivasulu, Swapna Madhu, Vishnu Bopanna and M.R.C. Vadlapatla.

Prakash Raj panel includes Srikanth, Uttej, Anasuya, Ajay, Bhopal, Brahmaji, ETV Prabhakar, Govind Rao, Khayyum, Kaushik, Pragathi, Ramanareddy, Sridhar Rao, Shivareddy, Sameer, Sudigali Sudhir, Subbaraju, Suresh Kondetti, Tanish, and Tarzan.

More than 900 movie artists will cast their votes on October 10. Electronic Voting Machines will be used for the polling to be held at Jubliee Public School in Film Nagar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Results will be announced the same evening.

Prakash Raj was the first to announce his panel and he has been actively campaigning. He also received support from actors Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Hema, who dropped their plans to contest against him and joined his panel.

“I came here to serve the film industry. I want to serve my fellow artistes and industry people,” Prakash Raj had said while announcing his panel

Prakash Raj, who unsuccessfully contested as an independent candidate in 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Bengaluru Central, made cautious manoeuvres to win the support of many. He urged the MAA members to cast their conscience vote.

“#MaaElections2021… Your vote is your voice.. The welfare of MAA is our viewpoint. Let’s vote with conscience and ensure the victory of MAA aspirations,” the actor tweeted after filing his nomination last week.

It also includes Uttej as Joint Secretary, Banerjee as Vice President, Hema as Vice President, Srikanth as Executive Vice President, and Jeevitha Rajasekhar as General Secretary.

Tollywood sources say Prakash Raj has considerably bright chances of winning the election as MAA president. He enjoys the backing of Megastar Chiranjeevi and his family members.

On the other hand, Vishnu received the support from outgoing president Naresh, who criticized Prakash Raj.

“In the 25 years history of MAA, have you cast your vote at least once? Did you attend any general body meeting,” he asked Prakash Raj.

In 2019, actor-producer Naresh was elected as MAA president, defeating Shivaji Raja, who was contesting for second consecutive term

On the Naresh panel, Jeevitha Rajasekhar was elected as general secretary while her husband actor Rajasekhar was elected as executive vice-president.

Naresh said though one year of his term was wasted because of Covid-19 pandemic, he worked efficiently for the welfare of all. He alleged that some outsiders influenced about 11 members and blocked the welfare works for under privileged artists.

He claimed that for the first time in MAA history, his panel provided insurance for 900 members. “If any member died, we ensured the insurance money of Rs 3 lakh reached the deceased family,” he said.
