AP high court gives big relief to Ramoji Rao

0

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday gave a big relief to Ramoji Rao, chairman of Eenadu and Margadarsi groups. The court issued stay on the fresh FIR filed by the APCID against Ramoji Rao and his daughter-in-law Sailaja Kiran.

The police have filed fresh FIR against Ramoji Rao and Sailaja Kiran, based on the complaint given by Gadireddy Uri Reddy, son of late Gadireddy Jagannadha Reddy, more popular as G J Reddy. It was alleged that G J Reddy had given Rs 5000 to Ramoji Rao in 1960 to start Margadarsi Chit Fund Private Limited.

In return, Ramoji Rao had given 80 shares in Margadarsi to G J Reddy. These shares have become 288 shares over the years, Uri Reddy told the CID officials. After the death of his father, they tried to meet Ramoji Rao, he told the CID officials. However, with the intervention of some family members, he could meet Ramoji Rao in 2016.

Uri Reddy also told the CID that Ramoji Rao had offered some money to him and took his signatures on blank papers at gunpoint. Scared of the gun, he said he signed the blank papers and gave them to Ramoji Rao.

Uri Reddy also told the CID officials that Ramoji Rao had transferred the 288 shares of his father G J Reddy, to Sailaja Kiran, who is the managing director of Margadarsi now. He said he tried to convince Ramoji Rao to pay him the due amount. He also told the CID officials that instead of paying the due amount, Ramoji Rao never allowed him to meet.

Based on this, the CID officials have filed fresh FIR against Ramoji Rao and Sailaja Kiran. Acting on the fresh FIR, Ramoji Rao filed a quash petition in the high court. On hearing from both sides, the high court issued a stay order on the FIR and told the police not to take any action against Ramoji Rao till further orders.

AP issues orders for attachment of another Rs 1581 cr of Ramoji

1

The State government had issued yet another GO attaching another Rs 1581 crore belonging to the firms of Margadarsi Chit Funds Private Limited chairman Cherukuri Ramoji Rao. The orders were issued on Thursday directing the AP CID to take further steps.

The government had proposed attachment of Rs 226 crore of the Usha Kiran Media Limited and Rs 1355 crore of the Ushodaya Enterprises Private Limited. It was alleged that these funds were diverted by Cherukuri Ramoji Rao and Cherukuri Sailaja Kiran from the Margadarsi Chit Funds Private Limited.

The AP CID officials said that during the course of investigation it was fund that Ramoji Rao and Sailaja Kiran have diverted the subscribers deposits in Margadarsi to these two companies. AP CID SP Amit Bardar told the media persons that the diversion of money was against the rules of the AP Chit Fund Act.

Meanwhile, in a press release, the APCID said that Margadarsi collected signatures of some of the subscribers and filed cases in the high court on their behalf. The CID said that the subscribers were not told about the case. The representatives of the Margadarsi have collected the signatures and filed the cases, the CID said.

The CID also alerted the people against giving their signatures on any papers without reading them. The CID alleged that the Margadarsi representatives were fooling the subscribers by taking their signatures and filing the cases on their behalf.

CID DG Ch Srikanth made an appeal to the Margadarsi subscribers to check the safety of their money in the company as the government had issued attachment notice. The government had already issued two orders earlier on May 29, and June 15 for the attachment of Rs 1035 crore of the Margadarsi Chit Fund Company.

APCID questions Ramoji Rao, to question Sailaja on April 6

0

The APCID officials on Monday questioned Eenadu and Margadarsi chairman Ch Ramoji Rao in connection with Margadarsi Chit Fund Private Limited. Ramoji Rao was booked along with his daughter-in-law Sailaja Kiran besides six employees of the Margadarsi Chit Fund Company.

They are accused in the mismanagement of funds in the chit fund company. They were also accused of diverting money from the chit fund company to various other business activities. The public deposits collected from the people were used for non-chit fund activities, the CID said.

Ramoji Rao reported sick and was shifted to his son’s house in Banjara Hills where he was questioned by the CID officials. The CID officials have served notices to Ramoji Rao and his daughter-in-law Sailaja Kiran giving them three dates for their convenience.

CID SP Amit Bardar and other officials questioned Ramoji Rao while he was on the sick bed. The CID legal counsel and other officials were present during the questioning. “We have questioned Ramoji Rao in one case and registered his statement. We will question him once again,” the CID SP told media persons.

The officials have questioned Ramoji Rao for over eight hours on the day. They have reportedly collected crucial information from Ramoji Rao’s disposal, sources said. The officials alleged that the Margadarsi had diverted the funds and invested in mutual funds and share market.

The diversion of the funds was in violation of the Reserve Bank of India rules, the officials said. The officials have so far arrested four managers of the Margadarsi group.

Andhra CID summons Ramoji Rao, daughter-in-law in Margadarsi case

1

The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday served notices to media baron and chairman of Margadarsi Chit Funds Private Limited (MCFPL) Cherukuri Ramoji Rao and his daughter-in-law and managing director of MCFPL Cherukuri Sailaja for investigation into the Margadarsi Chit Fund case.

The CID issued notices under section 160 Criminal Procedure Code to examine them at their residence/office and provided four different dates.

It has asked them to be present at home or appear before it either on March 29 or March 31 or April 3 or April 6.

The probe agency has also summoned branch managers of various branches of the chit fund company.

The notices have been served for alleged cheating, diversion of deposits into mutual funds, which are contingent on capital markets’ risks and violation of Chit Fund Business Act and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) guidelines

Acting on complaints by the Assistant Registrars of Chits, CID recently registered multiple FIRs across Andhra Pradesh into alleged chit fund fraud.

The complaints came after the Stamp and Registration department raids on the offices of Margadarsi at several places in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during October and November last year.

It was allegedly found during rains that the chit fund collections from the branches were being transferred to the corporate office and the huge amounts were being invested in mutual funds.

A case was registered against Margadarsi under Sections 120(B), 409, 420, 477(A) read with 34 of IPC, section 5 of Andhra Pradesh Protection of Depositors and section 76, 79 of Chit Funds Act 1982.

Multiple CID teams had conducted searches on Margadarsi branches in Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, Guntur, Narasaraopeta and Anantapur.

Non-payment of monthly subscriptions, illegal diversion of funds to the corporate office, non-disclosure of revenue and expenditure accounts and other irregularities were named by the CID.

Ambati says Ramoji Rao is TDP president

0

AP Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu on Tuesday, alleged that Eenadu Group chairman Cherukuri Ramoji Rao is the real president of the TDP. He said that Ramoji Rao had been running the TDP from behind the screen.

Referring to the adverse reports in the media about the Polavaram Project, the Minister alleged that Ramoji Rao had been writing against the Polavaram Project and the State government because the contract was withdrawn from Ramoji Rao’s relatives.

The Minister said that the contract was given by the TDP government on nomination basis. However, after the YSR Congress formed the government in the state, the contract was withdrawn and given to another company on reverse tendering system in open tender. The Eenadu group chairman was upset with the government withdrawing the contract from his relative and hence writing negatively against the project and the government.

The Minister further said that Ramoji Rao had made Chandrababu Naidu a dummy leader and was running even the day-to-today affairs of the TDP. He also alleged that Ramoji Rao was selecting the candidates for the TDP for the next elections.

In a strong urge to defeat the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, Ramoji Rao was organising pro-TDP forces in the state, the Minister said. He said that some media houses in Andhra Pradesh have kept the agenda to defeat the YSR Congress in the next election.

However, Rambabu asserted that people were watching these political conspiracies of the TDP and its media. He also claimed that people who have been receiving the benefits of the government for the past three years would be able to understand these conspiracies and would stand against them.

Ambati Rambabu appealed to the people to defeat these forces that have been trying to destabilise the government through fake news and false campaigns. He also wanted the people to back Jagan Mohan Reddy government which had been working to improve the lives of the poor and neglected sections.

Will Ramoji’s intervention restore the TDP-BJP alliance?

1

The talk in the political circles of the two Telugu states is that TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The meeting will happen at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, where Amit Shah is scheduled to stop on his way to Hyderabad from Mugugodu in Nalgonda district.

Amit Shah is scheduled to address a public meeting in Munugodu on Sunday and will stop at Ramoji Film City. The Union Minister is holding a brief meeting with Ramoji Rao, where TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is also likely to be present.

There is a strong urge among the supporters of the TDP and the BJP for alliance for the 2024 general elections. Even the Jana Sena has been pressing for alliance among the three parties of BJP, TDP and Jana Sena.

In the recent past, Y S Chowdary, had emphasised the need to defeat the YSR Congress in the 2024 elections. The BJP too held a rally in the 29 capital villages and vouched for Amaravati development as capital.

In this backdrop, it is said that Ramoji Rao had taken initiative with the intervention of Y S Chowdary and is said to be arranging a meeting between Amit Shah and Chandrababu Naidu. It is to be seen whether this meeting happens or remains as a speculative news.

Will it be a battle between Jagan and Ramoji in 2024?

1

It looks like the battle is not political in Andhra Pradesh. The electoral battle in 2024 is all set to be primarily between the TDP and the YSR Congress. However, it looks as if the battle is going to be between Eenadu chief Ramoji Rao and YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy.

The battle has already started with the Eenadu coming up with anti-government reports on its daily and Jagan’s government and Sakshi media giving replies. It had almost become the order of the day in AP politics.

While the opposition TDP is yet to start its campaign against the government among the people, the Eenadu has started it already. Jagan too has started the electioneering and his two public meetings early in April indicate his election campaign mode.

Jagan had already declared that the 2024 battle would be against Eenadu and not TDP. From the day he said this to his party MLAs, the Eenadu started the campaign as if the media house was accepting the challenge thrown by Jagan.

Ramoji Rao carried out a similar campaign twice in the State. It was before the launch of the TDP in 1982 and again against Y S Rajasekhar Reddy before 2004. While Ramoji Rao’s campaign had won in 1982, he did not work against Rajasekhar Reddy in 2004.

It was because of this intense campaign by Eenadu, Rajasekhar Reddy launched Sakshi media house. In the initial days of Sakshi, the paper used to carry counter reports to the Eenadu. This battle continued for a few months and later they both stopped it.

After a decade or even more, the battle is again started with Eenadu and Sakshi. The common readers in AP are confused with the two largest circulated dailies carrying contradicting stories. However, the voters are wise enough now with the advent of social media. They are able to distinguish the media reports from the actual politics.

However, it is to be seen who would win the 2024 battle. Will it be Jagan or Ramoji?

Ramoji praises KTR to the skies, what’s up?

Media baron and Eenadu group founder Ch Ramoji Rao showered praises on TRS working president and IT minister K.T.Rama Rao.

Ramoji has written a letter to KTR on Friday to wish him on his 45th birthday. KTR’s birthday falls on July 24 (tomorrow).

In his letter, Ramajo wished KTR to achieve greater success in his public life and lead the country in the future.

The letter has special words of appreciation for KTR. Ramoji hailed KTR’s unique leadership skills and his great oratory skills.

He also termed KTR as a good human being by keeping himself available to people all the time through social media platforms and other means, swiftly reacts to people’s problems and redress them quickly.

Ramoji stated that every father wants their children to achieve more than him and looking at the way KTR is taking Telangana State forward in all spheres, he strongly feels that KTR’s father and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao would be more than happy with KTR’s performance which is in line with the aspirations of KCR to make Telangana a leading state in the country. Ramoji said KCR is most lucky to have a son like KTR.

Ramoji further said that there is no one in the country at present who could match KTR in achieving the desired tasks.

However, Ramoji’s letter triggered speculations in political and media circles. This is because though KCR and KTR came to power in Telangana seven years ago and KTR is celebrating his seventh birthday as a minister, Ramoji never written a letter either praising him or wishing him on his birthday.

This triggered talk that Ramoji too is learnt to be believing that KTR would become CM of Telangana State anytime and he is trying to maintain Eenadu group’s good relations with KTR from now itself.

The land allotment for developing Ramoji Spiritual City adjacent to Ramoji Film City is pending with KCR’s government since 2015 and Ramoji’s letter triggered speculations that he wants to get land allotment at the earliest by getting closer to TRS government bosses.

Ramoji-Jagan war reaches peaks on AP Capital

0

The Eenadu media group has taken a strong line to highlight Amaravati farmers’ protests and also anti-Capital shifting agitation of the JAC. Recently, ETV is giving non-stop coverage of dharna protests in Capital City villages and short interviews of individual farmers. The police atrocities on women protesters during Chalo Assembly were also highlighted a lot. Eenadu also took serious view of the false Nirbhaya cases filed against the journalists in the village school police camp issue. Alongside, Ramoji Rao group is giving seamless coverage to KCR son and Telangana Ministers KT Rama Rao’s five-day Davos trip. On conclusion of his trip, the Eenadu has also given big interview of KTR and wrote how Telangana was making rapid progress.

On the other hand, Sakshi Media began its counter campaign against Ramoji Rao in its usual aggressive style. Sakshi TV brought back the Margadarsi multi-crore deposits issue once again. It is giving non-stop coverage on how Ramoji Rao is going to face serious action for irregularities. Sakshi recalls how thousands of crores were collected by Ramoji Rao without following the rules and the laws. No other media is covering this as of now. Reports say that YCP leaders tried to persuade Eenadu to moderate its coverage on Capital shifting. But Ramoji Rao has ignored this. Now, Jagan Reddy is treating Eenadu as his Number 2 Enemy next only to ABN Andhra Jyoti.

RK and Ramoji Rao main target of Jagan GO

AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has burst the Amaravati real estate bubble after defaming Capital City as a government venture to benefit a particular caste. Now, CM Jagan is attacking the AP media as one dominant caste media is targeting his government needlessly in the past five months. Hence, without further waiting, YCP Circar released GO 2430. The government is telling mediapersons that the GO is mainly aimed at targeting Andhra Jyoti MD Radhakrishna and Eenadu Chairman Ramoji Rao. So, the rest of media need not worry about any cases or future complications.

Incidentally, RK and Ramoji Rao belong to the same caste. Most of the media organisations in Telugu states belong to this caste only. This came as a big opportunity for Jagan to bring the caste angle again and again to make political gains out of it. In his election campaign also, Prashant Kishor team spread rumours and provoked other castes against Chandrababu Naidu which yielded good results.

The government’s hope is to convince the rest of media that it will not be harassed along with ABN and Eenadu. But the national media and journalists associations are viewing GO 2430 as a daring assault on freedom of expression. A head-on collision between Jagan and media is unavoidable now.

Exclusive – Serious financial differences between Ramoji Rao and Rajamouli

Media tycoon Ch Ramoji Rao played a crucial role behind Baahubali. Ramoji Rao and his media Eenadu promoted the franchise big time all over. For the first time in the history of Eenadu, a full page interview has been published about Rajamouli. Even after the film’s release, Eenadu kept on publishing articles about the film. There have been wide speculations that Ramoji Rao invested huge amounts in Baahubali which is not really true. Over 70% of Baahubali took place in Ramoji Film City and Ramoji Rao lent his support by providing all the facilities to erect massive sets for the movie along with renting his studio for the periodic epic. The latest update is that all is not well between Ramoji Rao and Rajamouli currently.

Rajamouli has been left in shock with the bills of Ramoji Film City. Arka Media Works received Rs 90 crores bills from RFC which left Rajamouli in deep shock. Rajamouli expressed his displeasure over this. Though Rajamouli wanted ETV to hold the satellite rights of Baahubali franchise, he changed his mind in the last minute which did not go well with Ramoji Rao. After a series of consequences, Ramoji Rao and Rajamouli are not in talks currently. Rajamouli decided not to shoot his future films in RFC and he is in plans to erect sets in other studios in the city for his next film. The financial tremors are said have brought enough gap between Ramoji Rao and Rajamouli.

Is Radha Krishna becoming more powerful than Ramoji?

0

Media is considered fourth estate in democratic India ( First three being – executive, legislature, and judiciary). So media barons are always powerful in India. Especially, in Telugu states, Ramoji, the media moghul has always been a very powerful and could change the political dynamics of the states. Every Telugu person knows his role in making NTR and then Chandra Babu CMs. But there is an interesting change in the equation recently as ABN Radha Krishna becoming more prominent figure, at least in the context of politics of Telugu states.

RK slowly built a good ecosystem in Telugu media. His channel is rated at top 4-5, news paper in top 3 and website is popular than Eenadu ( Earlier T360 reported that Andhra Jyoti crossed Eenadu in Alexa rankings). Also, he is now well connected with both KCR and Naidu. He is now the go to person for both CM’s in media.

Ramoji: The Raja ‘Guru’ of Telugu politics.

0

Ramoji Rao – owner of largest circulated Telugu daily, one of the top media barons in India is undisputable kingmaker of Telugu politics. Even at 80+ years, all political leaders vying for his attention. Recent meeting of Jagan with Ramoji, seeking his blessings once again displayed to the people of Telugu states, Ramoji’s hold over politics in Telugu states.

Jagan met him twice despite all the name calling he did. Sakshi wrote very controversial things about Ramoji’s son, late Suman. Sakshi people still say that the day they published Suman and Prabhakar’s interview is still the highest circulation day for Sakshi till date. That interview was so shocking that in some of the small towns, xerox copies of that interview were sold as sakshi paper copies were all over. Even the cartoons in Sakshi about Ramoji were in bad taste and not even respecting his age. Of course one may argue that every line published in sakshi may not come for Jagan’s approval. But as these kind of articles and cartoons published several times, one can safely assume Jagan’s consent for these things. Moreover, Jagan told multiple times to his colleagues that his dream is to see Ramoji in jail.

In spite of all this grandstanding, Jagan is now seeking blessings of Ramoji. Same story with KCR. He told, once Telangana is formed Film city will be ploughed etc. But now it seems, Eenadu has become KCR’s favorite paper. Ramoji is one of the very few media barons with direct phone line to Modi. Considering all this Ramoji is THE real Raja guruvu of Telugu politics. Interestingly, it is the Sakshi paper that popularized the tag “Raja guruvu” to Ramoji, albeit sarcastically.

Can Jagan replicate NTR feat?

The 40-minute meeting of YSR Congress chief Jaganmohan Reddy with media baron Cherukuri Ramoji Rao on Monday at the latter’s hilltop residence in Ramoji Film City has given the media mills in the Telugu states enough grist to grind.

There are more reasons than one can think for Jagan’s surprise visit to his arch rival in media and politics. Though Ramoji Rao is not a politician, his unstinted support to Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao (NTR) when he launched the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 was instrumental in bringing the legendary actor to power a year later.

It was also a well known fact that Eenaadu, with multiple district editions, had given such a boost to NTR’s political campaign on his Chaitanya Ratham that the mass hero of silver screen was propelled into the mass leader of crores of Telugus. In other words, Ramoji Rao had shown the world, way back in the 1980s before the advent of satellite TV in this country the power of printed word. He was a kingmaker at that time and continues to play a pivotal role in moulding public opinion, particularly among the middle and rural classes through Eenaadu.

So, it’s not surprising to see YSR Congress boss meet Ramoji Rao a week before his padayatra, scheduled to begin on November 2. During his 3,000km foot journey through Andhra Pradesh, he wants to understand the people’s problems and share their concerns over a host of issues.

In fact, this is not the first time that Jagan planning a mega walkathon throughout AP. He has undertaken such foot marches a la Mahatma Gandhi, Chandrababu Naidu, etc to drum up support for his party. But this is the first time that he changed the tack and strategy with an eye on 2019 Assembly elections.

Though his meeting with the biggest Telugu media baron was ostensibly described as “seeking blessings for his padayatra and cooperation in covering it on the TV and in the newspaper (read, please don’t downplay or underplay the tour), media projection of NTR before and after he became the chief minister seems to have goaded Jagan into befriending digital and print media.

He is doing this despite the fact that Sakshi newspaper and TV trumpet every move and word of Jagan, including his diatribes against Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and unsubstantiated scams and scandals against the ruling TDP.

When what is shown on the TV and written in the newspaper is one sided and viewed/read incredulously, efforts to project a clean image carry the risk of boomeranging.

Jagan meets Ramoji Rao

YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy reportedly met Eenadu Group chairman Cherukuri Ramoji Rao at Hyderabad on Monday.

The opposition leader allegedly sought his blessings for Padayatra and spoke for about 40 minutes on CBI Court’s decision among other things. Bhumana Karunakar Reddy apparently accompanied Jagan, as per ABN Andhrajyothy.

The winds have changed different direction these days, especially with Eenadu giving considerable coverage to Jagan.

However, ahead of his Padayatra, it is the second time this month Jagan made an unexpected stop at most surprizing place. Previously he met Tridandi Chinna Jeeyar Swamy at Muchintal near Shamshabad.

Jagan meets Ramoji while Naidu in Delhi

0

YSR party president and opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy has reportedly met chief of Eenadu group Ch Ramojirao this evening at Ramoji Film City. Though there is no official confirmation from YSR Congress sources, Jagan is said to have disappeared between 4pm and 7.30 pm giving rise to speculation about the meeting. Sources close to the YSR party said meeting did take place and it was a hurriedly organized meeting. According to them, his confidante and former TTD chairman, Bhuman Karunakar Reddy alone accompanied Jagan.

What is significant is that the meeting took place when chief minister N.Chandrababu had been camping in Delhi for two days. Some inside sources sought to link Jagan meeting with Ramojirao and Naidu’s stay in New Delhi.

According to a senior YSRC leader, Naidu has been putting pressure on centre to do something in the case of Jagan with regard to his “disproportionate asset case”, which has been put on fast track. “Naidu feels threatened in the face Jagan’s aggressive campaign against Capital Amaravati, land acquisition, his attempt to incite students and youth to organize a Telangana like movement for special status. For the fast 15 months Jagan has been on the move fighting for one cause or the other. His recent militant opposition to land acquisition have the potential to derail the Naidu’s efforts to develop ports, airports and industrial hubs. In this back drop Naidu is putting pressure on centre to contain Jagan in one way or the other in dis-proportionate assets cases. In fact the fast tracking of the case is also the result of the Naidu’s pressure in centre,” said sources in YSRC. According to sources, Naidu’s sole agenda in Delhi was to put pressure on centre, not for special status, but for containing Jagan.

Jagan might have scented something foul due to Naidu’s pressure and he might have sought Ramojirao’s intervention – is the general perception among the political circles and observers. A section in YSR party see this meeting as a fall for YS Jagan. Even though, a version that Jagan might have called on the media baron to seek his support to his proposed fast in Guntur is doing rounds, many sought to discount this as too minor an incident to warrant a meeting between two warring personalities. Jagan meeting Eenadu chief , who is considered his rival both in politics and business , is inexplicable given the Ramoji Rao’s political stance in ordinary terms.”KCR is only leader whom Ramoji met after walking down to secretariat,” remarked a political observer.
