The story behind ACB raids in Perni Nani’s constituency

1

Normally, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) spares the constituencies that are represented by powerful politicians. If it is a minister, the ACB wouldn’t even look into the constituency. But, in the case of the Machilipatnam assembly constituency, the story appears to be totally different. The ACB is very active in Machilipatnam, especially in the municipality these days.

The ACB is probing into several officials of the Municipality and this is giving sleepless nights to them. Some of them have sent SOS to Minister Perni Nani. But, this doesn’t seem to be yielding any positive result.

The story goes that the minister realized that there were large-scale irregularities in the house tax collection. He had a survey of over 40000 houses done. He found that in a majority of cases the houses were being under-taxed.

Thus, a two-storeyed building was shown as a small RCC roofed house. Similarly, an RCC roofed two BHK was shown as a tile-roofed house. As a result, these houses were being levied less tax and the civic body was losing heavily on its revenue. The survey also showed that a handful of leaders from the erstwhile ruling party were responsible for this.

So, the minister asked the ACB to probe and book the officials responsible for the under-taxing. This is sending shivers down the spine of the officials who had helped the TDP. Some of them have already approached the minister, but to no avail. The ACB raids are now the talk of the town in Machilipatnam.

Why AP CM likes only retired north Indian IAS officials?

0

AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, it appears, has a special liking for north Indian IAS officers. Ever since he came to power, the north Indian officials are having a gala time. Several IAS officials of north Indian origin have been given plum posts. What is interesting is they are being pulled out of the closet very much after their retirement and are being given key posts.

Jagan caused a revolution of sorts when he appointed a north Indian, Anil Singhal, to the post of TTD executive officer. Till then, TTD EO post was held only by a Telugu IAS officer. But, Jagan ignored opposition from within the IAS ranks to make Anil Singhal the EO. Initially, people dismissed this appointment as one-off case. But, the same trend of appointing north Indian IAS officers is not just continuing, but also retired officials are being brought in these days.

Neelam Sahani, a north Indian, was made the chief secretary. She was given two extensions of service and after her retirement, she has been appointed as the State Election Commissioner. Sources say Jagan enjoyed great rapport with her as the CS. Similarly, retired IAS officer AK Parida has been brought in as the chief of the AP Pollution Control Board. Retired IPS officer Veena Ish has recently been appointed as the vigilance commissioner. If sources are to be believed more north Indian retired IPS officers may be given plum posts in future.

Jagan seems to have a lot of faith in the officials from outside AP. One of his recent appointees is Kanagaraju of Tamil Nadu. He has been made the chief of the Police Complaint Authority. Jagan’s clear preference for north Indian retired IAS officers is now hot top in the power corridors of the secretariat.

Allocate 50:50 Krishna water for AP, TS: KCR asks Centre

The high-level review meeting under the chairmanship of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has made it clear and resolved that the Telangana state government is not recognizing Potireddypadu project, which is being illegally constructed by the AP Government on Krishna River without any environments clearances or allocation of even a drop of water to the project or any permissions from the Green tribunal.

A high-level review meeting under the chairman ship of CM KCR held on Saturday at Pragathi Bhavan on the illegal and unlawful Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, Lifting of water in Telangana State for irrigation projects and Hydel power generation in the State.

Important decisions take at today’s high-level meeting

The state would oppose Potireddypadu tooth and nail. Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, which lifts water for Potireddypadu Canal, is also illegal, the meeting resolved.

Though AP has enblock allocations by Bachawat Tribunal, but it should utilise water for the projects, which have allocations.

The meeting has resolved that the three members Committee meeting of the KRMB scheduled on July 9 should be canceled and full level board meeting should be convened after July 20 later including the points raised by Telangana State in the Agenda.

The meeting resolved that water to Potireddypadu would never be allowed and instructed the officials concerned to put forth their arguments opposing the illegal Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.

It is also decided to send Telangana issues to be included in the KRMB Agenda immediately.

The meeting has summarily rejected the 66:34 ratio so far continuing on Krishna waters between AP and Telangana states. The meeting resolved that the ratio should be 50:50 water allocations from this year onwards. Till the Tribunal makes the final allocation, the meeting proposed that Telangana and AP State should share 811 TMC of water, 405.5 TMC each from the assured waters.

In accordance with the State cabinet decision, power generation will continue at Jurala, Pulichintala, Srisailam, and Nagarjuna Sagar.

The meeting declared that KRMB has no right to stop the power generation. It said there are no agreements between the two states on Hydel Power generation.

The meeting rejected the misinformation campaign launched by the AP that the Telangana state government is releasing water to the sea after generating power at Pulichintala. The meeting suggested to the AP government to utilise the water released from Pulichintala after the power generation through Prakasam Barrage to fulfil the needs of Krishna district. This would, the meeting said reduce the cost of power bills for lifting Godavari water from Pattiseema.

The meeting reiterated that the Telangana government is utilising every opportunity lawfully to fulfil its needs to lift water for irrigation, to supply drinking water to Hyderabad and for the drinking water purposes through Mission Bhagiratha Scheme. The Hydel power being generated is well within the law.

The meeting also has resolved to generate 51 per cent clan energy as recommended by the Centre as environment pollution is increasing due to thermal power generation. The meeting also decided to implement the Centre’s guidelines through generation of the Hydel power.

The meeting felt that it is ridiculous on part of the AP to lodge complaints with the KRMB to stop generation of power, when Telangana State utilising the water allocated lawfully in Srisailam to generate power from the project essentially meant for the power generation.

The meeting said it is gross injustice that the AP government is dumping the materials at the project sites under the guise of Surveys and taking up the construction despite Courts threatening that they would put the AP Chief Secretary behind bars and without any permission from the Green Tribunal.

The meeting has instructed the officials to release water through Jurala right and left canals to fill-up tanks and lakes.

The meeting has decided to rename the just completed Sammakka barrage, sitamma sagar Projects as Irrigation Hydro Electric projects.

The meeting gave stern instructions to the officials that on the Srisailam Dam except Electricity employees having ID cards no one should be allowed. If anyone comes under the pretext of giving memoranda, they should be asked to approach the Telangana government. He instructed the officials to take proper security measures at Srisailam project.

The meeting also resolved to wage a battle without any compromise to safeguard farmers’ interests and rights of the Telangana State.

Jagan finally clears property tax arrears after public wrath!

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has finally cleared property tax arrears pending since he became CM in 2019 after facing the ire of people.

Jagan has constructed a huge palatial house in Tadepalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada when he was leader of opposition in February 2019.

In May 2019, he became CM of Andhra Pradesh. After he became CM, he converted his house as official residence cum camp office of AP CM.

He has been discharging duties as CM from this house since then.

But Jagan ignored to pay property tax arrears since 2019.

With this, the arrears have mounted to Rs 16.90 lakh in the last two years.

Tadepalli municipality which penalises common people and seizes their properties who fail to pay property tax in time has remained silent on Jagan’s arrears. However, the information got leaked about Jagan’s arrears leading to anger among people who questioned how could a CM who should set an example to people by paying all taxes in time defaults on payment of property tax arrears for two years.

Sensing public anger, Jagan decided to pay arears and he cleared all dues on Saturday.

The house is registered in the name of YS Jagan’s wife Bharathi Reddy.

North Andhra’s most powerful political family gets rowdy-sheets opened against it

0

Theirs’ is one of the most powerful family in North Andhra. Family patriarch Kinjarapu Yerran Naidu was an MP and a Union minister for several times. His brother Atchen Naidu is currently the AP TDP president. His daughter Adireddy Bhavani is an MLA from Rajahmundry, while Yerran Naidu’s son Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu is an MP.

Yet the family is facing police case after police case these days. Not just Atchen, but his close relatives too are facing bindover cases and have rowdy-sheets opened against them. Atchen’s close relatives Harivaraprasad, his son Kumar, Krishna Murthy and Suresh have rowdy-sheets opened against them. At least 22 of his relatives are now facing cases of serious nature, including willful obstruction of a government employee from doing his duties.

Ever since YS Jagan came to power, old cases of 2019 and 2011 are being dug out. Despite all the clout, the Kinjarapu family is now facing cases. Atchen Naidu was arrested by the ACB in connection with the ESI scam. But, what is surprising the politically powerful family is that the cadres have not reacted at all when rowdy-sheets were opened against them. The cadres did not take to the streets. There weren’t even black flag demonstrations. This has come as a rude shock to the Kinjarapus.

Normally, Atchen or Rammohan are among the first to rush to the rescue of any party worker in trouble. There were numerous such occasions. But, when they are in trouble, they find themselves utterly friendless with party cadres and second level leaders behaving as if it was business as usual. The Kinjarapus are grinning and bearing all these discomfitures. They feel they may have to endure all these till they come back to power.

Double whammy for Sharmila: Telangana unhappy, Seema angry with her

One wrong statement can ruin the career of a politician. It appears, YS Sharmila has made that cardinal mistake. It may well threaten her career. Her comments on water diversion through Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to the parched Rayalaseema region have effectively pitted her against the very area she belong to.

Sharmila, who is all set to launch YSR Telangana Party with an eye on the Telangana politics, has taken to Twitter to comment that she would oppose tooth and nail any attempt to divert even one drop of water to Rayalaseema. She said she would wage a relentless battle to protect the interests of Telangana.

She may have tweeted this comment to escape the criticism of being an Andhraite at heart. She would have thought she would win the battle of wits with the ruling TRS, which was planning to put her in a spot.

However, this comment of hers has angered the people of Rayalaseema. They are questioning her comments. Being a person of Rayalaseema origin with live links to Kadapa and Idupulapaya, how can she comment this way, asked several netizens. They sought to know how she can enter Rayalaseema again after making such anti-Rayalaseema statements. We will oppose her tooth and nail for these comments, the netizens are commenting. Now that her brand of politics has boomeranged, Sharmila is a confused politician. She must surely be realising that politics is a double-edge sword and one has to tread on it cautiously.

Jagan’s latest headache: Sand eater vs gravel gobbler

1

One politician is gobbling up gravel, while the other politico is slurping down sand. Both the leaders are at war with one another. So, one is trying to expose the misdeeds of the other. The end result is both the leaders are bringing disrepute to the party and are causing headache to the party’s young chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

In the Nellore YSRCP a war of sorts is raging between Minister Anil Kumar Yadav and district YSRCP chief and Sarvepali MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy. The war is not over who works more for the people. It is over who gobbles up more. While Govardhan Reddy is accused of mining more gravel from Sarvepalli region than is permitted, Anil Kumar is blamed for quarrying more sand from Penna that is allowed to. Both the leaders are bent on exposing one another.

Govardhan Reddy’s followers have secured permission to quarry 8000 cubic metres from Sarvepalli. His followers have even paid the seigniorage charges for the same. However, there are allegations that they have mined more than 10000 cubic metres. Anil Kumar has not only got a complaint filed against them, but even got an inquiry done. The MLA’s followers were penalised.

Not to be outdone, Govardhan Reddy’s followers have lodged a complaint against Anil Kumar’s followers for quarrying more sand from Penna river than permitted. Both the issues have now been lapped up by the Opposition TDP, which has begun an agitation against both the leaders. The issue has now reached Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is now said to be trying to patch up between the two warring leaders.

The whole issue has given the ruling YSRCP negative publicity and the gobbling up of natural resources by the powers that be has become a hot topic for discussion among the public.

Andhra, Telangana deploy police at dams amid row

1

Amid growing tension between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh over sharing of river waters and electricity generation, both the states have deployed armed police personnel at dams and power plants across Krishna river.

Security has been tightened by both the states at Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichintala projects.

Andhra Pradesh, which is demanding Telangana to stop hydel power generation at Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar, deployed its force on its side in Guntur district. Telangana also tightened the security on the border at Suryapet district.

Andhra police personnel also stepped up security at Pulichintala project. Over 100 policemen were deployed near the project amid a tense situation.

The government of Andhra Pradesh has taken strong exception to Telangana starting hydel power generation at full capacity at Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar projects despite low water levels in Pulichintala. It also registered protest with the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti.

Telangana also deployed additional police force at Nagarjuna Sagar power generation unit. About 100 police personnel joined the Telangana special protection force.

The Telangana police on Thursday also stopped a team of Andhra officials from visiting the power generation unit. The team wanted to meet the chief engineer of Telangana Power Generation Corporation to submit a memorandum.

The police took up checking of vehicles on the bridge and stopped tourists as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the war of words continued between the two states. The row over power generation erupted even as the two states were sparring over Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Project (RLIP).

Telangana has taken exception to Andhra going ahead with construction of RLIP saying this would harm its interests. It urged Krishna Water Management Board to stop Andhra from going ahead with the works.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday decided to lodge a complaint with Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the ‘illegal drawal’ of Krishna water by Telangana from Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar (NSP) for power generation.

Andhra’s water resources minister P. Anil Kumar Yadav stated that the state government was prepared to retaliate if the situation warranted.

Telangana’s tourism minister Srinivas Goud on Thursday said the comments made by Andhra ministers were objectionable. He reiterated that Andhra immediately stop works on RLIP.

Did insecurity force deputy CM touch the feet of CM?

1

Remember how much controversy the abject surrender and touching feet of the Telangana chief minister by some IAS officers created? The two IAS officers were slammed for the inappropriate behavior and had to do a lot of explaining. But, touching of feet, definitely not by IAS officers, but by some politicians has begun in Andhra Pradesh.

This is a culture limited only to the Tamil Nadu, where AIADMK leaders vied with one another in prostrating before Amma Jayalalithaa. Now it seems to be extending to AP also. What is sad is that a politician of the rank of deputy CM has touched the feet of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is much junior to him both in politics as well as age.

One of the five deputy CMs in AP, Kalattur Narayana Swamy, who belongs to the scheduled castes, tried to touch the feel of YS Jagan Mohan the other day. Swamy, who is from Gangadhara Nelluru constituency, tried to touch the feet, but Jagan not just moved away from him but also chided him for doing so. Sources say Swamy was worried whether he would be continued as the deputy chief minister after the completion of the two-and-a-half year period.

Chief Minister YS Jagan is trying to evaluate the performance of all his MLAs and ministers these days. Also, there is a possibility of a cabinet reshuffle where he would drop some ministers and take in some new persons into the government. Apprehensive perhaps of being continued as the deputy CM, Narayana Swamy of late has been trumpeting how loyal and honest he is and as to what he has done in these two years. Perhaps this insecurity may have made him to try to touch Jagan’s feet.

One only hopes the Tamil Nadu’s infamous tradition of prostrating before the leader does not become a habit in AP.

Centre cuts AP’s loan limit: Shock to Jagan govt!

1

The Centre on Thursday dealt a blow to Andhra Pradesh government by reducing its loan limit for this year.

The Jagan government is depending entirely on loans to fund its Navaratnalu cash transfer schemes, development programmes and even to pay salaries for state government employees.

It was found that Jagan government obtained loans over and above the permissible limits during the past two years.

This year, AP government sought Centre’s permission to take Rs 42,000 crore loans. The Centre had approved Rs 37,000 crore loans.

After it was found that, Jagan government crossed loan limit in the last two years, it has now deducted excess loans and cut down AP loan limit to Rs 27,000 crore this year.

Jagan government is now tensed over how to run the show with just Rs 27,000 crore loans this year at a time when AP government earnings took a drastic hit due to Covid and subsequent lockdown since April/May.

Jagan bail cancellation case: No more rejoinders, says CBI court!

0

The CBI Court in Hyderabad on Thursday dismissed the plea of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s lawyers to allow them to file rejoinders on the rejoinders filed by YSRCP rebel Raghurama Krishna Raju.

The CBI Court directed Jagan lawyers to directly begin their arguments on Raju’s rejoinders and gave them time till 2.30pm on Thursday to begin arguments.

Jagan’s lawyers sought time to file rejoinders but court refused and asked them to begin arguments straight away today.

Raju had earlier filed a case in CBI Court seeking cancelation of bail granted to Jagan in quid pro quo cases arguing that Jagan became CM now and is influencing witnesses using his power since several IAS officers working in AP government were named as accused in Jagan’s illegal assets cases.

However the CBI in its counter earlier left the decision of continuing or cancelling bail to Jagan to CBI Court without making its stand clear whether it wants bail to be cancelled or not.

The fate of Jagan’s bail will be known very soon.

Triangular tussle for political musical chair

1

It’s a problem of plenty for the ruling YSRCP in Ramachandrapurm assembly constituency in East Godavari. While it is usual for one or two leaders to rule the roost in one constituency, Ramachandrapuram is unique that has three politicians, all equally powerful, from the same party fighting each other.

Ramachandrapuram is currently represented by Setti Balija leader and young Chelluboyina Venugopal. Venugopal is also a minister in Jagan’s cabinet. Thus, he is politically quite powerful and influential. Pilla Subhash Chandra Bose, an out-and-out Jagan loyalist too hails from the same place. He stood with Jagan during the tough times and has worked hard in building the party. He was minister for sometime before becoming a Rajya Sabha MP. Thus he too is equally powerful.

The third leader is Thota Trimurthulu. Trimurthulu is a four-time MLA. He was in the TDP and then joined Praja Rajyam Party. A year or two ago, he joined the YSRCP. He was made incharge of the neighbouring Mandapet. He ensured a YSRCP victory in Mandapet. So impressed was Jagan that he made him an MLC. He too is angling for a ministry.

Trimurtulu and Pilli are traditional political rivals and belong to communities that are at loggerheads with one another. Now all the three leaders are focusing on Ramachandrapuram and want to emerge as the unquestioned leaders. Both Pilli and Thota are also trying to promote their sons. They are competing to get the Ramachandrapuram seat for their sons in the 2024 elections. Not just that each is trying to undercut the other.

Who wins in this interesting triangular tussle? Who will Jagan prefer? Will it is be the dynamism of Thota or loyalty of Pilli or the youthful activism of Chelluboyina? For this, we have to wait and watch how politics unfold in Ramachandrapuram.

Andhra condemns T’gana’s Krishna power generation

0

Andhra Pradesh Cabinet on Wednesday condemned the Telangana government for generating hydel power by drawing water from Krishna river basin reservoirs.

The Cabinet meeting chaired by Andhra Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy resolved to write missives to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this regard.

After the meeting, AP Irrigation Minister Anil Kumar Yadav asserted that the state government is constructing irrigation project as per regulations and using the water allocated to the state.

“Full capacity of 44,000 cusecs of water from Pothireddypadu can be drawn only if water level reaches 881ft in Srisailamwater level should reach 854 ft at least to draw 5,000 – 6,000 cusecs of water,” said Yadav.

The Minister said Telangana can draw 6 tmc water at 800 ft level and highlighted that AP is not able to draw Krishna flood water as the water level will be touching 881 ft – 885 ft only for 15 – 20 days.

He noted that to draw water at full capacity in less time, capacity should be increased by setting up lifts at 800 ft level.

Yadav said Reddy has already reiterated in the Apex Council meeting that water will be drawn from only the allocated share to the state.

The Irrigation Minister criticised Telangana Ministers for using provocative language and verbally attacking former united Anadhra Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy.

“Power generation is based on Irrigation demands and Telangana is committing a vicious act by generating hydel power though Krishna River Management Board has objected to it,” he said.

Yadav said AP will retaliate and the state is ready to bring projects under KRMB if needed and stated that the neighbouring state has been extending various projects such as Palamuru, Dindi and Nettempadu without permission.

“The state government would write a letter to KRMB on how Telangana is generating power illegally and request it to cut down wastage of water in 299 TMC of water allocated to them,” he added.

Keeping calm for the sake of Seemandhra people in TS: Jagan reacts on Krishna water row!

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Wednesday finally broke his silence on the ongoing Krishna water dispute between Telangana and AP.

Jagan reportedly made key comments on Krishna water row in the cabinet meeting held on Wednesday.

Jagan told ministers that he was maintaining silence on this issue despite Telangana CM K Chandrashekar Rao and Telangana ministers abusing his father and himself for the sake of Seemandhra people living in Telangana.

Jagan said large number of Seemandhra people live in Hyderabad and in Telangana and if I react on Krishna water row like Telangana ministers, they may trouble Seemandhra people in Telangana and for this reason he was maintaining silence on this issue.

Jagan at the same time said he cannot keep calm if someone hurt the interests of Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan asked ministers to write letters to Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) against Telangana using Krishna water for hydel power generation in Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects despite low water levels and pushing Andhra Pradesh irrigation and drinking water needs into crisis.

Jagan told ministers that he will also write a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi against Telangana government on Krishna water issue.

Why YSRCP’s targeting of Lokesh is good news for TDP?

1

The TDP cadres are happy these days. Despite the recent electoral reverses at the panchayat, mandal, ZP and Lok Sabha bypoll levels, they are feeling more confident. The reason? The significant image makeover of their young leader Nara Lokesh has given them a fair amount of confidence.

Gone is the hesitancy in choosing words. Today Lokesh is no longer a Twitter star. He is jumping into the field at every available opportunity. He is rushing to the places where the TDP workers are under attack and is the first to reach the trouble spots. Not just that! His statements are now more meaningful and his choice of words has significantly changed.

For instance, his comment that Minister for Education Adimulapu Suresh is actually a minister for confusion has become an instant hit. The fact that many are now addressing the Suresh as Minister for Confusion is indication that the punch line has hit the bull’s eye.

The recent spate of online meetings with students, the unemployed and the Group 1 aspirants show that he is maturing as a leader. Also, his quick reaction to the twin murders of TDP workers in Kurnool district too has instilled confidence among the party workers. Many workers are now beginning to look up to Lokesh.

More importantly, the ministers and the spokespersons of the YSRCP are now targeting Lokesh more. They are directing their barbs against the young leader. This is good news, according to the TDP cadre. Their targeting of Lokesh will only further strengthen him, they say. The more criticism, the better for Lokesh and for the TDP, they claim.
