Kuppam YSRCP bickers, fritters away gains

0

Is the YSRCP frittering away its gains in the all-important Kuppam constituency? Has groupism begun to eat into the vitals of the party? Internal bickering, it appears, is all set to hand back the Kuppam assembly constituency back to the TDP, whose citadel Kuppam was till recently.

Internal sources say three strong groups have emerged in the Kuppam YSRCP and all the three are trying to undercut one another. As a result, the YSRCP cadre is left confused and the party is getting weaker. With a foxy Chandrababu focusing on the constituency through his regular visits and outreaches, the TDP appears to be clawing its way back.

Chandrababu’s strongest citadel of Kuppam began slipping out of TDP grip since the 2019 elections. In the first two rounds of the 2019 elections, Chandrababu trailed behind the YSRCP candidate. This was a huge shock for the TDP. Though Chandrababu went on to win, albeit by a lower margin, the TDP could not recover. In the Panchayat elections, the YSRCP won 74 of the 89 panchayats, leaving just 14 to the TDP. In the municipal elections again, YSRCP has won 19 of the 25 wards. The YSRCP has rewarded key local leaders with plum posts.

But, that’s where the problems started for the YSRCP. Bharat, who was made an MLC, Senthil Kumar, who was made Resco chairperson and municipal chairperson Sudheer are now fighting among themselves. The three leaders are levelling allegations against each other and are exposing the financial dealings of one another. Despite Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s efforts, the group infighting is only growing. As a result, they are fast losing support among the people. This, according to political analysts, is giving an opportunity for the TDP to make a comeback in its former citadel of Kuppam.

Relief for AP Deputy CM Pushpa Srivani in caste row!

0

Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pushpa Srivani got a reprieve on the issue of her caste.

The Appellate Authority on Wednesday certified that Pushpa Srivani hails from Scheduled Tribes (ST) category and her caste is Kondadora.

The Appellate Authority conducted inquiry into her caste status following the directions of AP High Court.

Petitions were filed in AP High Court stating that Pushpa Srivani was not an ST and she submitted a fake certificate claiming herself as ST. The petitions sought her removal from the cabinet and also disqualify her from the Legislative Assembly.

It may be recalled that the AP High Court issued notices in April 2021 to Pushpa Srivani, AP chief secretary, Election Commission of India, West Godavari district collector and Tahsildar of Buttayagudem on this issue.

Retired teacher K.Mani who filed the petition brought to the notice of the High Court that Pushpa Srivani contested Assembly polls with a forged ST certificate.

After Appellate Authority confirmed her as ST, Pushsir Vani reacted accusing TDP of filing such complaints and cases against her since 2014. She said few persons belonging to TDP were filing these cases even after courts rejected those petitions earlier.

Have new districts pushed Amaravati on back-burner?

0

Why has the TDP stopped talking about Amaravati these days? While it is taking up issues such as Kodali Nani’s casinos and the carving out of new districts, the TDP has largely fallen silent on the issue of three capitals and Amaravati. Interestingly, this silence comes after a hugely successful Amaravati farmers’ padayatra from Thullur to Tirupati.

The Yatra was hugely successful and created quite a buzz. The yatra was enthusiastically received all along the route. The local TDP leaders provided the logistic support to the yatra and Chandrababu himself was the chief speaker at the culmination of the yatra in Tirupati. But, soon after, YS Jagan withdrew the 3 capitals bill to buy some time. Since then, the issue has been put in the cold storage.

The focus now has shifted to the carving out of 13 new districts in the state. Identifying and fighting the gerrymandering of the constituencies has become important for the TDP and it is now planning to raise several issues with regard to the new reorganisation. Also, the party is now focusing on rebuilding the party and re-energizing its cadre.

Amid all this, the Amaravati issue appears to have been put on the back burner. One section in the party feels that the party should react only when Jagan makes a move on the three capitals issue. There is also a fear in this section that the party would end up becoming a one-issue party if it only harped on Amaravati. Due to all these, the issue has now been relegated to the background.

Murali Mohan hangs up boots, Rajahmundry TDP looks for MP candidate!!

0

Andhra Pradesh is a good two years away from elections, but the politics have already heated up in Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency, especially in the TDP. The lookout for the MP candidate from the party has already begun with several persons throwing their hat in the ring.

Actor-realtor-builder Maganti Murali Mohan represented Rajahmundry in 2014. In the 2019 elections, his daughter-in-law Roopa contested in his place and lost to YSRCP’s Margani Bharat. In fact, Murali Mohan unsuccessfully contested in the 2009 elections too. Since 2009, he has taken up several service activities in the name of his charitable trust. The works of the Charitable Trust endeared him to the voters and was responsible for his 2014 victory.

However, neither Murali Mohan nor Roopa have visited the constituency after the 2019 debacle. The charitable works have also been stopped completely. The Maganti family is showing no interest whatsoever in Rajahmundry. With this, the TDP has begun looking for an alternative candidate to Maganti Murali Mohan.

Though former minister KS Jawahar has been appointed as the incharge for Rajahmundry Lok Sabha constituency, he does not have the resources needed to contest for the Lok Sabha seat. Hence, names like industrialist-businessman Ganni Krishna and Rajahmundry sitting MLA Adireddy Bhavani’s husband Adireddy Vasu are being heard. Kovvur-based industrialist Alluri Indra Kumar has also reportedly thrown his hat in the ring. All the three leaders are said to be trying to consolidate their respective positions

RBI to set up office in Andhra after clarity over state capital

1

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said that it will pursue the matter relating to setting up its office in Andhra Pradesh only after the state government finalises the location for state capital.

The RBI conveyed this in response to the request for establishing an office in Andhra Pradesh following division of the combined RBI office in Hyderabad in the wake of bifurcation of undivided Andhra Pradesh to create Telangana state.

RBI Deputy General Manager M.K. Subhashree wrote to Amaravati Development Authority Chairman Jasti Veeranjaneyulu that the matter related to opening of RBI office at the newly formed Andhra Pradesh state can be pursued only after the state government finalises the location for its capital city.

The RBI official conveyed this in response to a letter by ADA Chairman seeking immediate steps to set up the RBI office.

Referring to ADA Chairman’s grievance about currency chests for storage of cash, the RBI official informed that there are 104 currency chests in the state. The deputy general manager wrote that there has not been any complaint regarding shortage of bank notes in Andhra Pradesh during meetings of state level coordination committee and state level security committee held every half year.

Uncertainty over Andhra Pradesh capital is continuing ever since the YSR Congress government decided to have three state capitals, reversing the decision by previous TDP government to develop Amaravati as the state capital.

The YSRCP government plans to develop Visakhapatnam as administrative capital, Kurnool as judicial capital and Amaravati as legislative capital. However, farmers of Amaravati who had surrendered their lands for the development of state capital are strongly opposing the move.

The Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government recently decided to take back the legislations passed to create three capitals, but announced that it would bring a comprehensive legislation.

Uphill task for Dharmana from Srikakulam this time?

0

Is the TDP slowly but surely clawing its way back in Srikakulam district? Political watchers, who are following the developments in Srikakulam answer in the affirmative. They claim that the TDP is gaining ground in the district thanks to a slew of tactical errors by the MLAs of the ruling YSRCP.

Insiders say that former TDP ministers Gunda Appala Suryanarayana and former MLA Gunda Lakshmi Devi are slowly working to consolidate themselves in Srikakulam. TDP MP from Srikakulam Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu too stays in Srikakulam and he has been quite active in mobilising and motivating the party workers. As a result, the TDP is gaining ground in Srikakulam town.

In fact, the TDP has won six times from Srikakulam town assembly constituency since 1983. Gunda Appala Suryanarayana has won four times and his wife Gunda Lakshmi Devi won once. Dharmana has won only three seats.

Dharmana, a senior YSRCP hand, is said to be a demotivated man these days. His umpteen attempts to become a minister have come to a naught and he is afraid that he may not get a ministerial post even in the proposed cabinet reshuffle. He had lost by over 25000 votes in 2014 and won by a mere 5000 votes in 2019 despite a YSRCP tsunami. So, political watchers feel that Dharmana has an uphill task winning in the 2024 elections. Given the changing public mood against the YSRCP, Dharmana may have to sweat it out, say analysts.

Chandrababu’s five-point strategy to energise TDP

1

Emboldened by the recent successes in organising the party workers and the people against the YSRCP, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu is now said to be putting in place a five-point programme to take on the YSRCP. Chandrababu is said to be of the opinion that the popularity of the YSRCP government is fast fading and that this is the most opportune time to mobilise public opinion. Chandrababu is said to have been enthused by recent successes in putting Kodali Nani on the mat on the issue of Casino in Gudivada and on the issue of increasing milk rates of Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s dairy organisation.

The five-point strategy of Chandrababu is:

Focus on Local Issues: Chandrababu wants the party workers to focus on local issues and intensify struggles. He has asked the party workers and leaders to plan and organise agitations that highlight the failures of the YSRCP government. The YSRCP has failed in solving any problem even after two-and-a-half years of its rule, he feels.

Tough action on non-performers: Chandrababu is planning to take tough action against two-timers, coverts in the party. He is of the opinion that while the party would walk the extra mile to protect and promote sincere party workers, there would be lenience on those who are inactive or acting in cahoots with the YSRCP at the ground level.

Take up major issues: Chandrababu is planning to take up issues that have state-wide resonance. He is planning to wage state-wide agitation against the mining mafia. Power tariff hike and the rising prices would be highlighted through major agitations across the state.

District reorganisation: The TDP has realised that there is widespread dissatisfaction and anger about the proposed reorganisation of the district. There are agitations and protests everywhere. Chandrababu feels that it is about time TDP takes leadership of these protests. He wants the TDP workers to plunge into action across the state.

Rekindle TDP spirit: The next Mahanadu would mark the 40 years of the founding of the TDP. Similarly, NTR’s birth centenary too is round the corner. The party wants to use these two occasions to rekindle the TDP spirit among the workers, sympathisers and leaders. State-wide motivational programmes are being planned in a big way

Chandrababu is confident that the party workers are working with a new-found enthusiasm and that the people are getting increasingly disillusioned with the ruling YSRCP.. He is also happy that several leaders have begun taking to streets and waging people’s battles. He feels that the five point strategy will further help the party.

Is YS Jagan out to clip Vijaya Sai’s wings?

0

Is AP Chief Minister and YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on a mission mode to cut his once-closest associate and current Rajya Sabha member Vijaya Sai Reddy to size? Those in the know say Yes. The YSRCP watchers say there is a concerted attempt to downsize Vijaya Sai’s importance in the party.

Highly placed sources say that Vijaya Sai Reddy may not be re-nominated to the Rajya Sabha this time. Vijaya Sai’s term is all set to expire and he would be left with no post if he is not re-nominated again. But, sources say that Vijaya Sai’s name may not figure in the list of the four Rajya Sabha vacancies. In all probability, YS Jagan might ask him to stand down.

There is a lot of disquiet within the party over the way Vijaya Sai is building his image in New Delhi. There are also questions about his closeness to the RSS and the BJP circles. His recent act of posing for a selfie with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is said to have incensed YS Jagan. Vijaya Sai made a dash to Narsapur, where the RSS chief was boarding a train and held discussions with him for some time before clicking a selfie. Jagan is also said to be unhappy with the way Viajay Sai was trying to throw his weight around in North Andhra. Hence, it is likely that Vijaya Sai would be denied a Rajya Sabha re-nomination.

There would be four Rajya Sabha seats up for grabs and the YSRCP is set to take all of them as it has the bulldozer majority in the AP Assembly. If sources are to be believed, Nellore politician Beeda Mastan Rao would be given one seat. A Kamma leader from the party is likely to be given another seat. Meanwhile, there is a buzz that one seat could be given to a nominee of industrialist Goutham Adani. Jagan has already made Parimal Nathwani, an Ambani nominee, as Rajya Sabha MP.

YSRCP: Rampant groupism hits party in over 100 constituencies in AP

0

YSRCP’s internal assessments have brought to the fore the stunning revelation that the party is beset with rampant groupism and internal bickering in more than a hundred assembly constituencies out of a total of 175. The problem is most acute in over 60 constituencies and according to internal surveys, it would even affect the electoral outcome.

The reports warned the top leadership that the massive successes in the local body, panchayat elections and bypolls are no indications of the actual internal situation of the party. Usually, the ruling parties have advantage in the bypolls and local body polls.  Hence these results should not be seen as indicators of the YSRCP’s popularity, say political watchers.

The report pointed out that the party’s organizational infrastructure needs to be rejigged and reorganized. The last plenary of the party was held five years ago and various party committees have not been reconstituted even once in five years. Now that the 13 districts in the state are set to become 26 soon, the YSRCP has to reconstitute the party committees and the allied organizations immediately.  Otherwise, the 2024 elections could spring a surprise for the YSRCP leaders.

Also, the internal reports suggested that Jagan’s excessive focus on governance and administration is turning out to be costly for the party organization. There is no mechanism to ensure a hassle-free functioning of the party infrastructure.

BJP eyes YSRCP votes for president’s election, abandons RRR

1

Is the BJP getting ready to ditch Narasapuram MP Raghuramakrishnam Raju, whom it has supported on the sly so far? Is it being dictated by the real politic on the issue and is playing pally with the YSRCP? Why this sudden activism on the part of the Lok Sabha secretariat on the issue of Raghurama’s disqualification from the house.

The YSRCP has for the last two-and-a-half years been trying to get RRR disqualified, but the Lok Sabha speaker played the delaying game. But, now there is sudden activism. Interestingly, RRR too has pointed this out. He has said that the Lok Sabha speaker has acted with alacrity on the issues raised by Telangana BJP MPs like D Aravind and Bandi Sanjay, but has done nothing when he was arrested and tortured.

Sources say that the BJP now realizes that it needs the YSRCP support for the Rajya Sabha elections, where one of the Rajya Sabha seats may have to be given a nominee from Adani group. Also, it needs the YSRCP support for the presidential election. The BJP has only 49.9 per cent votes in its kitty for the presidential elections and needs parties like YSRCP and Biju Janata Dal to get its nominee elected.

It is these calculations that have forced the BJP to abandon RRR and latch on to the YSRCP. In its current calculations, the YSRCP, which has over 150 MLAs, 22 Lok Sabha MPs and eight Rajya Sabha MPs in its kitty, is more important. So, it is getting ready to make RRR a sacrificial goat.

Will Jagan’s new district plan finish off this TDP biggie’s career?

1

One politician who is anxiously watching the YSRCP Government’s plan to form new districts in the state is TDP heavyweight and former AP unit president Kala Venkata Rao. The reorganization of the districts may effectively end his political career prematurely, say those close to him. His fortunes will change irreversibly, they point out.

Kala Venkat Rao has been in active politics since the formation of the TDP and has been an MLA, Rajya Sabha MP and even the Home Minister of the state for some time. His politics were mostly centered around two assembly constituencies in Srikakulam district – Rajam and Parvathipuram. He has a strong support base in these two constituencies and has contested and won several times.

However, if the new districts are carved out as per Jagan’s plans, then Rajam would be merged into Vizianagaram district and Parvathipuram would be added to the proposed Manyam district. This effectively seals his political fate in these two constituencies. In fact, he had to forgo Rajam after it was designated an SC reserved seat.

As of now, he is working to consolidate himself in Etcherla constituency. But, he is billed as a non-local in Etcherla. Suddenly, he is finding himself limited to one constituency and competing with the local leaders. In the changed circumstances, he is uncertain about his political future. Also, his son’s future too would be in jeopardy.

Carving out new districts is no cake-walk!!

0

Andhra Pradesh these days is debating the formation of 13 new districts. But, those in the know say that the formation of new districts is easier said than done. There are several bottlenecks and the whole process will take far too longer than expected. Those who have studied the formation of new districts in Telangana say that it would take at least two to three years for the new districts to get all the needed facilities and infrastructure.

Experts point out that the assets and the employees have not yet been divided between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana even after eight years of bifurcation. In Telangana, the newly carved districts are yet to have their own collectorates. In some cases, the work on the construction of the collectorates is yet to begin. If this is the case with a cash-rich Telangana, how long will it take for a cash-strapped state like AP?

Questions are also being raised about the financial wherewithal of AP. The state is already in dire financial straits. Given this, where will the government get funds for provision of infrastructure? More importantly, the issue of teachers’ transfers is also going to take a lot of time, say those experienced in administration.

Experts say that there would be several legal issue and litigants might drag the government to courts. These issues need to be sorted out first, they explain. The unanimous opinion among the former administrators is that the formation of the districts by Ugadi may not entirely be possible.

Jagan takes more loans than what undivided AP took in 50 years!!

0

The AP Government’s profligacy and indiscriminate borrowings are now the talk of the town. The Government is borrowing to sustain its vote-catching welfare schemes. This is now crossing all norms of economic and financial sustainability. The AP Government is ignoring the warnings from financial experts about the impending economic doom in the state.

If the total borrowings of the government, including the pre-bifurcation period stand at Rs3. 14 lakh crores, the total borrowings of the AP government within three years after coming to power of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is a staggering Rs 3.60 lakh crore. Sadly, these borrowings were not spent on any infrastructure development but on sustaining the welfare schemes.

According to official sources, the government secured loans to a tune of Rs 229317.60 crore from STLs. It got Rs 1500.10 crore from compensation bonds. Rs 10158.40 crore were taken from NSSF. Another Rs 41.90 crore was taken from the LIC. The other organizations that have lent money to AP are: Nabard (Rs 6800.40 crore), NCDC (Rs 99.40 crore), Central Government (Rs 21711.80 crore) and PF (Rs 22878 crore).

In addition, Rs 31.40.40 crore were secured from Reserve Fund, Rs 62745.40 crore from Deposit advances and Rs 50 crore from Contingency fund. At this rate, the state would go bankrupt soon, warn financial experts. They suggest that the state government should take immediate corrective steps.

Andhra allowed additional borrowing for power sector reforms

0

The Ministry of Finance on Friday granted additional borrowing permission of Rs 7,309 crore to Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh for undertaking stipulated reforms in the power sector.

While Rajasthan has been allowed to borrow an additional Rs 5,186 crore, Andhra Pradesh has been allowed to borrow Rs 2,123 crore, as per the recommendation of the 15th Finance Commission.

Apart from Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, nine other states — Assam, Goa, Kerala, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh — have also submitted their proposals to the Ministry of Power, which are under examination.

Additional borrowing permission will be issued to the eligible states on receipt of recommendation from the Ministry of Power.

The Ministry of Finance has decided to grant additional borrowing space of up to 0.5 percent of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) to the states every year for a four-year period from 2021-22 to 2024-25 based on the reforms undertaken by the states in the power sector.

This was announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her Budget speech of 2021-22. This will make available additional resources of more than Rs 1 lakh crore every year to the states.

In order to avail additional borrowing for power sector reforms, a state government has to undertake a set of mandatory reforms and also meet stipulated performance benchmarks.

Once, the reforms have been undertaken by a state, its performance is evaluated on the basis of percentage of metered electricity consumption against total energy consumption, including agricultural connections, subsidy payment by direct benefit transfer (DBT) to consumers, payment of electricity bills by government departments and local bodies, installation of prepaid meters in government offices and use of innovations and innovative technologies.

Row over casino in Andhra Pradesh refuses to die down

0

The row over a casino allegedly organised during Sankranti at a property owned by an Andhra Pradesh minister is refusing to die down with main opposition TDP on Thursday lodging a complaint with Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan with ‘evidence’.

Video clips and photographs of illegal casino organised at K. Convention in Gudivada, travel details of 13 women flying back to Goa and representations made to the DGP, Krishna district Collector, and other officials were submitted to the Governor by a delegation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders.

The TDP claimed that 13 women who were brought for dances during the casino returned to Goa on January 17 and submitted the flight details of the women.

They handed over a letter by TDP chief and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to the Governor, demanding sacking of Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Nani and a comprehensive probe into the illegal activity organised during Sankranti celebrations.

The main opposition party also brought to the notice of the Governor the alleged attack on a fact-finding team of TDP during its visit to Gudivada last week and the alleged high-handedness of police.

Chandrababu Naidu also enclosed the report of the fact-finding committee with his five-page letter.

The TDP team was prevented from visiting the K. Convention Centre on January 21. The same day Minister Kodali Sri Venkateswara Rao (Nani) made a sensational statement that if it was proved that the casino was organised at a function hall owned by him, he would quit politics and commit self-immolation.

Kodali Nani, as the minister is popularly known, said like at all other places, cockfight and gambling was held at Gudivada during Sankranti.

BJP state chief Somu Veerraju and other leaders were also detained by police on January 25 when they were on their way to Gudivada following ‘Chalo Gudivada’ given by the party in protest against the illegal casino organised at the minister’s function hall.

A row erupted over the casino after some videos went viral on social media on January 16.

Opposition TDP and BJP have slammed the YSRCP government for bringing in casino culture into the state.

The TDP President sought the Governor’s intervention to sack the minister to ensure an impartial probe. He demanded an inquiry through an appropriate agency into the episode of illegal casino.

He said the fact-finding committee’s report clearly established that the minister was behind the conduct of casino. He alleged that the equipment for casino were procured illegally while all laws related to income tax and foreign exchange were violated.

Naidu claimed that the illegal casino was organised from January 14 to 16. He alleged that in addition to the gambling and betting, indecent exposure of women and vulgar dance was also promoted at the casino.

“The casino is not only against the Telugu pride and culture but is in direct contravention to the culture and ethos of people of Andhra Pradesh,” Naidu wrote.

Is employees strike a blessing in disguise for Jagan govt?

0

All the employees’ unions in Andhra Pradesh are on an agitation path against the state government over the new PRC scales issue for the past one week. They have already served strike notice and announced to go on strike from February 7.

Employees unions are demanding payment of salaries as per old PRC scales for this month January which are payable in February.

The YSRCP government on the other hand has stuck to its stand that it will pay salaries as per new PRC scales and directed treasuries department to process salary bills. But treasury staff refused to process salary bills saying they are also going on strike along with other employees’ unions.

This has led to a situation where there is no need for Jagan government to pay salaries for this month. Jagan government which is in deep financial crisis is taking loans to pay salaries and pensions for employees and retired staff every month.

The government which is supposed to pay salaries on first of every month is not in a position to pay even by the 20th of every month. It is clearing payment of salaries by month-end.

At this stage, employees going on strike gave relief to the government this month. The government needs nearly Rs 5,600 crore every month for salaries and pensions. There is no urgency for Jagan government now to mobilise funds for salaries for this month due to employees strike.

In a way, the employees strike has come as a blessing in disguise for Jagan government.

What are Jagan’s politics behind new districts?

0

Political analysts have begun the hair-splitting exercise to understand YS Jagan’s motive behind the proposal to constitute 26 districts. Ever since the government has issued a draft notification indicating the proposed boundaries for the districts, there has been a debate over who stands to gain and who loses in the whole exercise.

What has now been released is only a draft notification and adequate time has been given for registering objections or proffering suggestions. Then a final draft would be prepared and released. The Jagan government is planning to release the final draft by March-end or during the Ugadi festivities. But, political observers feel that a lot of political thinking has gone into the carving out of the districts.

Though the government has said that it has taken public opinion into consideration while carving out districts, there appears to be lot of political thinking behind the plan. In at least West Godavari, Nellore and Krishna districts, the division of the districts is likely to pose problems for the Telugu Desam Party. For instance Santhanuthalapadu assembly constituency has been attached to Ongole instead of Bapatla. This is likely to impact the demography.

Similarly, Sarvepalli, which is part of the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency is now part of Nellore district. While geographically it may not have any impact as Sarvepalli is part of Nellore district, it would affect the demography of Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency when the delimitation process is taken up. Sources say the carving of Manyam district and naming it after Alluri Seetharama Raju too has political and electoral motives. The political observers are now trying to understand the logic behind the carving of new districts.

Andhra Pradesh map set to change with 13 new districts

1

Andhra Pradesh celebrated 73rd Republic Day with the announcement to create 13 new districts.

The new districts will come into being from Ugadi, the Telugu New Year. A notification to double the number of districts to 26 was issued on Wednesday.

In his speech at Republic Day function at IGMC Stadium Complex here, Governor Biswa Bhushan Harichandan announced that new districts are being formed to fulfill the promise made by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in its election manifesto to ensure good governance and efficient delivery of service.

With this, Andhra Pradesh will be following into the footsteps of Telangana, which created 23 new districts in 2016, a couple of years after it was carved out of united Andhra Pradesh.

The gazette notification was issued after the state cabinet gave its nod to the proposal at a virtual meeting on Tuesday night. The government has sought suggestions and objections to the proposal within 30 days.

All objections and suggestions should be addressed to collector within whose jurisdiction the area lies, says the notification issued by Chief Secretary Sameer Sharma.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had promised during 2019 elections that every parliamentary constituency in the state will be turned into a district. The state has 25 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The state government split the existing 13 districts to create new districts and also finalised their names. The new districts and their headquarters are Manyam district (Parvathipuram), Alluri Sitharama Raju district (Paderu), Anakapalli (Anakapalli), Kakinada (Kakinada), Kona Seema (Amalapauram), Eluru (Eluru), NTR district (Vijayawada), Bapatla (Bapatla), Palnadu (Narsaraopet), Nandyal (Nandyal), Sri Satyasai district (Puttaparthy), Annamayyia district (Rayachoty) and Sri Balaji district (Tirupati).

Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts in north coastal Andhra region will be reorganized to create Manyam district with Parvathipuram as the headquarters.

Alluri Sitharama Raju district will be created by merging some parts of existing Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts. The district has been named after revolutionary freedom fighter Alluri Sitharama Raju. Anakapalli district will be carved out of Visakhapatnam district.

Kakinada and Kona Seema districts will also be created from existing East Godavari district.

The proposed Eluru district will comprise parts of West Godavari and Krishna districts. NTR district will be carved out of Krishna with Vijayawada as the headquarter. She too is a US-educated girl who is out to carve a niche for herself in Kurnool and Nandyal area. Her father too is a senior politician. Both these young guns are now all set to tie the knot.

Former MLA and TDP biggie Bonda Umamaheswara Rao’s son Bonda Siddharth is all set to marry former seed development corporation chairperson and Allagadda strongman AV Subba Reddy’s daughter Jashwanthi Reddy. Both have studied together in the US and knew each other for quite some time. Both are very active in TDP politics and form part of the young brigade.

Jashwanthi has already begun touring Nandyal assembly constituency and is being assisted by dad AV Subba Reddy. Jashwanthi is being projected by the TDP as the party’s MLA candidate from Nandyal. She is now being viewed as a threat by Akhila Priya and the Bhuma family.

Bonda Uma too is promoting his son Siddharth in Vijayawada politics. Siddharth is quite active in Vijayawada politics. Many feel that the battle for one-upmanship between Siddharth and Kesineni Nani’s daughter Swetha is at the root of the fight between Bonda Uma and Nani.

No cabinet expansion for now.. aspirants disappointed

0

The much touted cabinet rejig of YS Jagan government may not happen anytime soon. This is going to be a huge disappointment for all those aspirants who were hoping for a ministerial berth. In fact, when YS Jagan Mohan Reddy formed his cabinet on June 7, 2019, he had announced that he would rejig the cabinet after two years. With the government crossing the two-year mark, there were high hopes of a cabinet reshuffle.

There were also stories about how Jagan was finalizing the list of probables, how he was giving the finishing touch and how he had postponed the whole exercise by six months. But nothing happened. Meanwhile, the ministerial aspirants were doing rounds of the temples, astrologers and crystal ball gazers.

But, it is now emerging that Jagan may not go in for a cabinet reshuffle as it could open up a Pandora’s box. With issues like the government employees’ agitation and dire financial situation, it appears unlikely that Jagan will undertake a reorganization of his cabinet. Hence those aspiring for a place in the cabinet may have to wait for some more time.

A similar drama was played out in neighboring Telangana. There were stories after stories about how KCR was planning to rejig his cabinet. There were also rumors about how he was moving to the Centre and make his son KTR the CM of Telangana. But, the things did not go as planned. No reshuffle was taken up in Telangana too.
