AP Govt clears Rs 15k cr Adani project

The State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) meeting held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy here on Thursday, gave its nod for setting up a 3700MW pumped storage project undertaken by Adani Green Energy at an investment of Rs 15,376 crore.

The Adani Green Energy project will be developed in four phases, where the first phase will be taken up in 2022-23 at a cost of Rs 1349 crore, second phase in 2023-24 with Rs 6984 crore, third phase with Rs 5188 crore and the final phase will be completed in 2025-26 with Rs 1855 crore creating a total employment of 4,000 jobs. Along with this project few other projects in Kadapa, Parvatipuram, Satya Sai districts were also cleared by the Board for generating green energy.

The SIPB approved setting up of a garment manufacturing industry by Punctuate World Pvt Limited at a cost of Rs 50 crore in Pulivendula and Kopparthi providing employment to 4200 people. The Board also gave a nod for Avisa Foods Pvt Ltd’s Shrimp Processing Industry at Mellavelli Foodpark of Krishna district at a cost of Rs 150 crore which would create 2500 jobs. Also, clearance was given to set up a hotel (VVPL) at Tirupati under the Novotel brand by investing Rs 126.48 crore and creating direct employment to 300 people and indirect employment to over 2700 people.

Further, the government decided to transform Kopparthi electronic park into a Textile Region Apparel Park, where a Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel Parks will be developed in 1200 acres to produce quality products at low manufacturing costs and to create better employment opportunities. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to prioritize connecting the area with railways as the government will provide uninterrupted electricity, water and other infrastructure facilities to the parks.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chief Minister said that there is immense potential for green energy generation of over 30000 MW in the state, which requires about 90000 acres. He said that Green ‌ Energy projects are going to be of great benefit to farmers as they can earn a minimum lease of Rs 30,000 per acre as a fixed income, especially to those in rain-fed areas. He directed the officials to look at those projects for which MoUs have been signed and are yet to start their operations.

The Chief Minister said focus should be laid on bringing global companies investments and added there are good opportunities for investments in Electronics, Tourism and Hospitality sectors in the state. He said there are many electronic manufacturing industries in Kopparthi and added to ensure more global companies invest in that location. He instructed the officials to take steps to set up a railway line to Kopparthi for easy transportation of goods and added to give priority to it so that industrial growth will be expedited in Kopparthi. He said it is also important to connect Industrial nodes with railways and added that every node should be linked with railway lines.

AP Government issued notices in Ticket Pricing Portal Case

The Andhra Pradesh government has been keen on a transparent ticket-selling system and the government issued a special GO through which the government would sell the ticket prices across all the theatres in the state. The guidelines are issued by the AP government and the theatre owners have been asked to sign the agreements for the same. Several cases are filed in the AP High Court in the recent week against the move of the AP government. Sandeep, the Deputy General Manager of Big Entertainment filed a petition in the AP High Court recently.

The High Court issued notices for AP State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation, AP Technology Services and the Secretaries of the Home Ministry, Legal Department. The court asked them to file a counter at the earliest. Several multiplex owners approached the court and the AP High Court said that the decision on interim order will be taken soon. All the cases are heard collectively and the AP High Court will issue the judgment soon. The next hearing will take place on June 27th.

AP govt finally gives posting to senior IPS officer

The AP government had finally given posting to senior IPS officer A B Venkateswara Rao, who was under suspension for two years. He was posted as commissioner of printing and stationary relieving another senior IPS officer G Vijaya Kumar.

Venkateswara Rao, a 1989 batch IPS officer was suspended in February 2020 on charges of corruption by the YSR Congress government. He challenged the suspension in the AP high court and later in the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court directed the State government to reinstate Venkateswara Rao as suspension cannot be continued beyond two years.

Accordingly, he was reinstated by withdrawing suspension and the IPS officer reported to duty on May 19, 2022. He was asked to report to the General Administration Department and was finally given posting on Wednesday.

Venkateswara Rao fought a tough battle against the YSR Congress government for two years. He challenged the government’s decision in his suspension and had even addressed several press conferences where he expressed doubts over bias of the government officials and the persons concerned.

The ruling YSR Congress is not happy with him as he is alleged to have engineered defections from the party to the TDP in 2017. Venkateswara Rao was the head of the intelligence wing during the TDP regime and was close to then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The controversial story had thus ended with the government giving him a posting finally.

Will AP govt give posting to AB Venkateswara Rao?

Senior IPS officer of the 1989 batch has been making rounds in the AP secretariat waiting for the government to give him fresh posting. He has made two visits to the secretariat in the last fortnight after the Supreme Court’s direction in late April.

The senior IPS officer is under suspension since February 2021 on charges of irregularities in purchase of communication equipment to the police intelligence wing during the TDP regime between 2015 and 2019. He was the head of the state intelligence wing during Chandrababu Naidu regime.

Rao was also served show cause notices during this suspension period for violation of service rules. He was accused of addressing the media without prior permission from the government as a member of the All India Services.

However, his suspension was quashed by the AP high court, which was challenged by the State government in the supreme court. The apex court too squashed the state government petition on the ground that suspension cannot be continued for more than two years.

Following this, A B Venkateswara Rao visited the Velagapudi secretariat on April 29 and requested chief secretary Dr Sameer Sharma to give him posting in the light of the supreme court direction. He also submitted a copy of the supreme court order.

It was said that the chief secretary had told him that he would start the process to give him a new post. However, as there was no response from the chief secretary, the senior police officer visited the secretariat once again on Wednesday to meet the chief secretary and renew his demand.

Sources say that the chief secretary had asked the senior IPS officer, who is now in the rank of the DG, to wait in the room. As Venkateswara Rao was waiting in the hall, the chief secretary had reportedly left his office without meeting him.

The big question now is will the state government give posting to this senior police officer? Well, one has to wait and watch.

AP govt permits price hike of tickets for ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’

According to the latest update, the Andhra Pradesh government has increased the existing ticket prices for Mahesh Babu’s ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ by Rs 45 for a 10-day period under the ‘Super High Budget Film Category’.

Movie ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh have long been a source of contention.

The state government has announced that prices will be raised/lowered in accordance with the budget in the most recent amendments to the Cinematography Acts in Andhra Pradesh.

In the same vein, the government granted permission for the makers of ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ to add Rs 45 to the original prices set by them.

‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’, starring Mahesh Babu and Keerthy Suresh, has received $188,564 in pre-sales from 648 shows and 223 locations in the US already.

Slated for release on May 12, the movie is directed by Parasuram Petla.

The State government had launched a massive campaign to convince the employees of the new pension scheme. The government had proposed a Guaranteed Pension Scheme (GPS) in the place of Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

The government had also constituted a committee to study the issue and make recommendations on the GPS. Before the committee could meet, finance minister Buggana Rajendranath issued a detailed two-page advertisement in the print media explaining the two pension schemes of CPS and GPS.

The government said that the CPS would become a financial burden to the government while the returns to the pensioners are not guaranteed. “The CPS has no guaranteed person and is linked to bank interest rates,” the government said to convince the employees.

On the other hand, the GPS would guarantee a minimum 70 per cent pension, which is more than what is paid under the CPS. Recalling that the state had withdrawn pension in 2003, the government said that the present CPS would become unbearable financially.

The government also gave projections of the financial burden on the government in the years to come from 2023 to 2100. The government said that the salaries and pensions would go up by 132 per cent of the State Owned Resources by 2023 to 197 per cent by 2050 and 395 per cent by the year 2100.

The government said that through the GPS, the employee receives a guaranteed pension of 33 percent of the last drawn basic pay.

Thus the government had given two options to the employees asking them to choose. The first option is that every month, if an employee continues 10 percent of his salary, the government will add another 10 per cent and the employee after retirement would receive 33 per cent of his last drawn basic pay as guaranteed.

In the second option, the government said if the employee contributes 14 per cent, the government too would contribute an equal amount and the employee would get 40 per cent of the last drawn basic as pension.

The government also alleged that a section of the ‘yellow media’ is now trying to point a finger and ridicule the government’s intentions on the pension scheme. It cautioned the employees not to fall into their trap and asked them to “decide your choice.”

The state government has formed a new committee to study the possibilities of cancelling the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The new panel was formed after holding consultations with the representatives of the employees on Monday.

The CPS withdrawal was one of the major promises of Jagan Mohan Reddy before the 2019 general elections. However, in the last three years, the government could not fulfil the promise. In fact, at one point of time, the YSR Congress leaders claimed that they had no knowledge of the issue and hence the promise was made. In other words, the government said that the issue was not in their hands and could not do anything.

However, it had now formed a committee to rework on the issue. The new committee will have finance minister Buggana Rajendranath, ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Adimulapu Suresh and government advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy. This committee would hold talks with the representations of the employees’ and their unions.

Earlier, the ministers and the senior officials held talks with the employees on the issue. Besides the Ministers and the government advisor, chief secretary Dr Sameer Sharma, finance chief secretary Sashibhushan Kumar, secretaries N Guljar, H Arun Kumar and advisor on employees’ welfare, P Chandrasekhar Reddy joined the meeting with the employees.

From the employees, APNGOs Association president Bandi Srinivasa Rao, AP Secretariat Employees Association president Venkatrami Reddy, AP Revenue Services Employees Association president Bopparaju Venkateswarlu, government employees’ association president K R Surya Narayana and teachers’ unions leaders, M Krishnaiah, N Venkateswarlu and H Hrudayaraju were present.

The employees and the ministers, besides the secretaries, held prolonged discussions on the issue and finally agreed for the formation of a new committee. The committee would study the issue, hold consultations with the representatives of the employees and even hold consultations with the Central government. It would then submit a report to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The government of Andhra Pradesh lifted night curfews in the state recently but there was a confusion as the theatres are asked to operate with 50 percent occupancy. The government granted 100 percent occupancy in theatres from immediate effect. With no notable releases this week, 100 percent occupancy rule will not make any difference this week.

Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak will hit the screens next week and the film will have the advantage. The Committee submitted the detailed report on the ticket pricing in AP theatres today. The government will take the final call and the revised GO with new prices is expected soon. As per the happenings, Bheemla Nayak may not get the advantage of the revised prices in AP.

The entire Tollywood is eagerly waiting for the Covid-19 restrictions to be lifted in the state so that the biggies will hit the screens. The government of Andhra Pradesh lifted the night curfews but there was no announcement about the 50 percent occupancy. The 50 percent occupancy rule is yet to be lifted and it may be continued for some more time. This makes it clear that Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak will not hit the screens on February 25th. Also, there are speculations about the revision of the ticket pricing GO.

The announcement is yet to be made by the government of Andhra Pradesh. For now, Varun Tej’s Ghani and Sharwanand’s Aadavallu Meeku Joharlu will hit the screens on February 25th. The entire summer release chart is updated and Tollywood will have a packed March, April and May this year. All the pending biggies will hit the screens during the season. For now, Tollywood got a partial relief after the night curfews are lifted in the state.

In its hurry to pay the salaries to the government employees as per the new PRC so as to thwart their strike, the AP government this month has deposited salaries to even employees who are long dead and those who are under suspension. Thus, huge amounts have gone into the accounts of people who are no more and the government does not know how to recover the amount.

Due to the standoff with the government employees over the new PRC, which they have rejected outright, the government this month decided to deposit their salaries as per the new PRC. But with the treasury employees expressing solidarity with the striking government employees, the government tried to use the online systems and AI to process the salary data.

The technology used could not differentiate between the living employees and those who are dead. Also, it could not identify those suspended for various reasons. All these people got salaries. The government, which checked the data, later found that money has already gone into such accounts. Now, efforts are on to identify such accounts and is now said to trying to recover the amount.

The government reportedly asked the treasury officials to prepare a list of those who have retired long ago and is trying to contact them. Similarly, suspended employees are also being contacted. There are also complaints that ineligible people got their salaries. Those in the know of government financial processes say that recovery would be a very tough task and it could take quite a long period to get back the money.

Andhra DGP meets CM after massive protest by employees

A day after the roaring success of Andhra Pradesh government employees’ ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ despite police denying them permission, Director General of Police Gautam Sawang on Friday met Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The chief minister is understood to have asked the DGP if some sections within the police force cooperated with the unions of employees and teachers.

The massive turnout of employees, teachers and pensioners for the protest despite lack of permission from police and the restrictions imposed to foil the march has rattled the state government. The chief minister has reportedly taken serious note of this.

A sea of humanity was witnessed on BRTS Road in Vijayawada as thousands of employees managed to reach the city for the protest demanding higher pay revision.

This is being seen as a failure of intelligence setup as a massive gathering took place despite the restrictions imposed on all routes leading to the city.

The DGP’s meeting with the chief minister at the latter’s official residence in Tadepalli here lasted for about half-an-hour.

The police chief is understood to have explained to the chief minister how the employees reached Vijayawada in disguise ahead of the protest and took the police by surprise.

The chief minister is believed to have given instructions to the DGP to avoid recurrence of such incidents.

PRC Sadhana Samithi, an apex body of the unions of employees and teachers, had called for ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ to press their demand for revoking a Government Order, fixing new pay scale as per the 23 per cent pay revision announced by the chief minister last month.

Alleging that there was downward revision of their salaries as a result of the new scales, the employees are demanding that they be paid salaries as per the old scales.

PRC Sadhana Samithi leaders have denied that workers of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena or other political parties participated in ‘Chalo Vijayawada’. One of the leaders Venkatrami Reddy said employees voluntarily came to Vijayawada making the programme a big success.

He claimed that Vijayawada never witnessed such a protest and alleged that the state government is trying to ignore it as if nothing has happened.

The steering committee of unions held a meeting on Friday to chalk out a future course of action. They reiterated the demand that the government rollback the GO and make public the report of Pay Revision Commission (PRC).

Meanwhile, the employees are gearing up for an indefinite strike from the midnight of February 6. As part of their protest, employees began apen down’ in the state secretariat on Friday.

With Saturday being a holiday, the employees shutdown the computers, affecting the functioning of various departments.

In a massive show of strength ahead of their indefinite strike from February 7, government employees and teachers from across Andhra Pradesh gathered in Vijayawada on Thursday, defying police ban and restrictions to press their demand for a higher pay revision.

It was one of the biggest gatherings seen in recent years as employees, teachers and pensioners came together for ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ called by ‘PRC Sadhana Samiti’, the joint action committee of all unions of employees and pensioners.

BRTS road in the city reverberated with slogans of awe want justice’. Holding flags of their respective unions and banners, the protestors took out a massive rally from AP NGO Bhavan to BRTS Road.

The protest was a roaring success as organisers claimed that one lakh people participated in it while three lakh more were stopped by the police in various parts of the state.

The police, which had denied permission for the protest in view of Covid-19 situation and set up checkposts, could do nothing to stop a wave of protestors flooding the key artery in the city. Defying all restrictions, employees, teachers, pensioners and even contract employees reached the venue.

Despite the checkposts, barricades and other measures taken by the police, protestors poured in from all directions. Many reached by cars, three-wheelers and even by two-wheelers to join what is described as the biggest demonstration by government employees in many years.

The protestors marched through the BRTS road. Some adopted novel methods to lodge their protest by singing or by even begging.

They demanded that the government take back the Government Order (GO) issued last month, fixing new pay scales as per 23 per cent pay revision. They argue that since they were receiving 27 per cent interim relief the GO has led to downward revision in their salaries.

The employees are demanding that the government make public Pay Revision Commission (PRC) report.

“Our demands are just. We are demanding the government to give us our rights,” said an employee participating in the rally.

The employees criticised the ‘adamant’ attitude of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government. “We don’t want your reverse PRC. Pay us salaries as per the old pay scales,” said another employee.

Addressing the mammoth gathering, the leaders of PRC Sadhana Samiti made it clear that their protest will continue till the government accepts their demands.

“The government stopped buses and trains but it could not stop employees,” said one of the leaders Bandi Srinivasa Rao.

The leaders said the employees would go ahead with the strike from February 7. They said the entire administration will come to a standstill and the government would be responsible for the inconvenience caused to the people.

They demanded Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to intervene and call them for talks to resolve the issue. “We are protesting in a peaceful manner. Still everything’s not lost. We request the chief minister to intervene and accept our just demands,” he said.

Despite police denying permission for the protest and the curbs imposed across the state, large number of employees, teachers and pensioners managed to reach here on a call given by called Raising slogans of ‘we want justice’ and The rally brought traffic to a halt in the busy areas.

Police had denied permission for ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ and detained several leaders across the state.

Citing the denial of permission for the protest program in view of Covid-19 pandemic situation, the police detained leaders of various unions of government employees and teachers in various districts.

The leaders were either placed under house arrest or summoned to police stations to serve notices, directing them not to leave for Vijayawada for the protest. They were being told that if they go ahead with the protest, action will be taken against them as per law.

Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata had said that there was no permission for ‘Chalo Vijayawada’. He said as per the guidelines issued by the central and state governments, any program with a gathering of more than 200 should not be allowed. The commissioner said since over 5,000 employees are likely to participate in ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ permission was not given for the same.

Meanwhile, home minister M. Sucharita denied that employees were arrested or stopped. She said the issue can be solved only through talks.

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet which met in Amaravathi on Friday (today) under the chairmanship of Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has approved new PRC scales to employees as it is from this month even as the employees unions and teachers unions are on a warpath against the government over ‘reverse PRC’.

State government employees unions and teachers unions in Andhra Pradesh on Friday (today) announced to go on indefinite strike from February 7 to protest against recent PRC (pay revision commission) pay scales announced by YSRCP government.

All the employees unions and teachers unions came together under the banner of “PRC Sadhana Samithi” and took this decision. The Samithi met in Amaravathi on Friday (today) to decide their future course of action.

It was decided to meet AP chief secretary Sameer Sharma on Friday (today) and urge him to extend old PRC pay scales to employees and not new PRC pay scales announced by the state government recently. Employees said that they will get lower salaries if new PRC scales are implemented.

The Samithi has decided to serve strike notice on the government on January 24, observe non-cooperation to the government on February 5 and go on indefinite strike from February 7.

It was also decided to hold rallies and dharnas against new PRC from January 25 in all the districts across the state.

Andhra Pradesh Joint Action Committee (AP-JAC) of government employees on Wednesday ruled out talks with the government on pay revision and decided to serve strike notice on January 21.

While Chief Secretary Samir Sharma tried to pacify the employees saying the state lost huge revenues due to Covid-19 pandemic, the employees intensified the protest demanding the state government to roll back the Government Order (GO) relating to implementation of the Pay Revision Commission (PRC) recommendations.

The employees on Wednesday attended the offices wearing black badges while some protestors set afire the copies of GO at various places.

AP-JAC chairman Bandi Srinivasa Rao told reporters that there will be no further talks with the government. The JAC executive council resolved at its meeting that the employees will never accept PRC.

He alleged that with the implementation of GO, each employee will lose Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 every month.

He said the strike notice would be submitted to the chief secretary on January 21. This will be 15-day notice. The employees’ associations will chalk out protest programmes for this 15-day period on Thursday.

Stating that the pay revision announced by the government is far below the Interim Relief (IR), AP JAC chairman Srinivasa Rao and AP-JAC Amaravati chairman Bopparaju Venkateswarlu demanded that the government continue paying IR and also release the arrears of Dearness Allowance (DA).

They said there is no instance in the state’s history of a pay revision being lower than IR.

Following the announcement made by Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy early this month, the government on Monday issued a GO for 23 per cent hike in the basic pay. The employees had been receiving 27 per cent IR for last few months.

“Let the government continue paying earlier salaries with 27 per cent IR along with DA. We don’t want pay revision,a said Srinivasa Rao.

Both Srinivasa Rao and Venkateswarlu made it clear that their protest will continue till the government rolls back the GO. The government would be responsible for the inconvenience caused to the public, they said.

They said the chief minister had promised 23 per cent fitment and Das but the salaries were far below the IR. A Central government scheme was introduced doing away with the House Rent Allowance (HRA).

The government had promised five DAs, but while implementing the same, it had done away with other benefits, they said.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Samir Sharma tried to pacify the employees. He told reporters that this is the best pay revision the government could offer in the present situation.

He appealed to employees to understand the circumstances in which the government had to take this decision. He said the state’s revenues have slumped to Rs 62,000 crore from Rs 98,000 crore due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The chief secretary the employees need not have any apprehensions. He claimed that justice has been done to all and denied that there will be decrease in salary He hoped that all issues will be resolved soon.

Stating that the government was spending Rs 17,000 crore on IR, the chief secretary said employees also know that IR can’t be treated part of salary. He pointed out that the government has also issued DA arrears and extended many other benefits.

Secretary general administration Sashibhushan Kumar said the implementation of PRC will impose an additional burden of Rs 10,247 crore on state exchequer. He said the PRC implementation will lead to substantial increase in the salaries of all employees from January.

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to urge the Central government to reduce by three months, the gap for administering precautionary dose of Covid vaccine.

At the Covid review meeting on Monday, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy decided to write a letter to the Central government seeking to reduce the gap from the existing nine months to six months.

The chief minister opined that reducing the gap for precautionary or booster dose by three – four months, would benefit frontline workers and those who provide emergency services and also prevent many people from being hospitalised, state government officials said.

After studying the prevailing Covid situation in the state, the chief minister directed the officials to focus on scaling up vaccination in five districts of East Godavari, Guntur, YSR Kadapa, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam, which have the lowest rate of second dose vaccination. He said vaccination to the age group of 15-18 years has been completed 100 percent in Nellore and West Godavari, and it was 90 percent in other five districts and 80 percent in other four districts and directed the officials to expedite the vaccination process in Vizianagaram and Vishakapatnam districts. He also reviewed on progress of construction works of new medical colleges.

Briefing the chief minister on the state of preparedness, the state health department officials informed the chief minister that they have arranged for 53,184 hospital beds for treating Covid patients. They said only 1,100 people were hospitalised out of 27,000 active cases and only 600 of them needed oxygen support. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to make arrangements for availability of oxygen and medicines.

Deputy Chief Minister (Health) Alla Krishna Srinivas, chief secretary Sameer Sharma, principal health secretary Anil Kumar Singhal, principal health secretary — Covid management and vaccination Muddada Ravi Chandra, Finance Secretary N. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday celebrated his birthday by launching a new scheme under which over 52 lakh families will be given full rights on their houses with the registered title.

He formally launched Jagananna Sampoorna Gruha Hakku or One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme at Tanuku in West Godavari district.

Addressing the gathering, he said that to date, only dwelling rights were provided to the people under different housing schemes but now with the launch of OTS, they will get full rights with registration. The beneficiaries can now pass on the houses to the next generations as an asset, can avail bank loans, and can also sell their property at a market rate without any hassles.

Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the government is waiving off the Rs 10,000 crore outstanding housing loans of 40 lakh beneficiaries who availed loans from the AP Housing Board Corporation since 2011. They will be given house documents with clear titles with free registration benefitting 52 lakh families.

As part of the scheme, the Chief Minister distributed registered documents to 8.26 lakh people who have enrolled for OTS. Similarly, people who have constructed houses in the government allotted lands with their own money and don’t have full rights, can avail registration by paying just Rs 10 and secure their property. For free registrations alone, the government has been spending Rs 6,000 crore.

The Chief Minister said that the entire value of the assets would be around Rs 1,58,000 crore, and the beneficiaries can avail the scheme by paying nominal amounts of Rs 10,000 in villages, Rs 15,000 in municipalities, and Rs 20,000 in municipal corporations. In case the loan amount is less than the stipulated amounts, the beneficiaries can then pay the outstanding loan amount and get complete rights on their property, he said and added that the scheme is extended up to Ugadi (April 2) and urged people to make best use of it.

He dismissed the opposition’s claim that the government launched the scheme to collect money from people. He pointed out that in the last 30 months, the government has credited Rs 1.16 lakh crore to people through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) without the interference of middlemen under various welfare initiatives.

“Why would I take money from the poor in the name of OTS, when over Rs 1.16 lakh crore has been provided through various schemes,” he asked.

Taking a dig at opposition leader Chandrababu Naidu and a few media houses, he said that they were not able to digest the good initiatives that are being provided to the poor and questioned why the previous government did not implement the scheme when they were in power. During 2014-19, although the officials had sent proposals to waive off the interest amount, the previous government refused to do so and even failed to provide complete rights to 43,000 people who have cleared all the pending loans of Rs 15.29 crore, he said.

The Chief Minister asked people to question if the opposition would purchase their houses at a market rate even without any registered documents and why were they objecting when the government is providing registered houses which can be passed to the next generations without any hassles. He asked them what they did during their regime other than abandoning the poor.

The YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh led by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is taking loans from banks and financial institutions indiscriminately to fund its cash transfer schemes in the name of Navaratnalu.

The AP government itself resorted to several irregularities to secure loans from banks and financial institutions in violation of FRBM Act.

The Centre on Monday (today) warned AP government against violating FRBM Act to secure additional loans.

The Centre imposed restrictions on loans to be taken by the AP government in the next three years.

The union minister of state for finance made a statement to this effect in Lok Sabha on Monday.

He said that AP government has secured an additional loans Rs 17,924 crore over and above the stipulated limit under FRBM Act.

The Centre asked the AP government to adjust the additional loans in the next three years by taking loans lower than FRMB limit.

The Andhra Pradesh government has taken a key decision on extending new PRC (pay revision commission) pay scales to state government’s employees and pensioners on Monday (today).

The AP government did not respond to the major demand of the AP government’s employees to release PRC report so far. But, the government has now decided to hand over PRC report to employees unions by 6 pm on Monday.

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy himself will hand over PRC report to employees unions by 6 pm on Monday.

The secretaries committee on new PRC will meet CM YS Jagan and submit PRC report to the CM by 5 pm on Monday.

After holding consultations with the committee, the CM will release the PRC report to employees unions.

The CM will hold consultations with employees unions on Tuesday and announce new PRC and quantum of fitment (hike on basic salary).

The employees unions are demanding over 45 per cent fitment but CM Jagan is reportedly in favour of 30 per cent fitment which is on par with Telangana government’s PRC announced in April this year.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia for the family of Lance Naik B. Sai Teja, who lost his life in the December 8 chopper crash.

Hailing from Chittoor district, Sai Teja was the Personal Security Officer (PSO) to Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Bipin Rawat, who was also killed along with 11 others in the Mi-17V5 helicopter crash that took place in Katteri, near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.

Hailing from Eguva Regada village in Kurabala Kota mandal of Chittoor district, Sai Teja (27) is survived by wife Shyamala, son Mokshagana, 4, and a daughter Darshini, 2.

Meanwhile, military authorities on Saturday identified the body of Sai Teja. Bodies of six deceased were identified and handed over to their families.

The soldier’s body is likely to be brought to his native village later in the day from Coimbatore.

The last rites will be performed with military honours.

The family will decide on final rites after the body is brought home.

Belonging to the Kuruba community, Sai Teja joined the Army in 2012 as a sepoy. While serving in Bangalore Regiment, he was selected for para commando training. Last year, he was appointed as PSO to CDS.
