KE Gnanavel Raja of Studio Green has announced that Naa Peru Shiva 2 will be released in theatres in January.

Naa Peru Shiva 2 is billed to be a proper action drama and it is directed by Pa Ranjith. The film is set for theatrical release this month.

Karthi to reshoot ‘Sultan’

The success of ‘Khaidi’ has given Karthi the confidence to pick up different stories. He may not do regular commercial potboilers henceforth. Buzz is that he has ordered his director to reshoot of his current film that also stars Tollywood’s hot favorite Rashmika Mandanna. Karthi launched ‘Sultan’ six or seven months ago but now the film is going for the reshoot.

The project is produced by Dream Warrior Pictures that also produced ‘Khaidi’. Bakkiyaraj Kannan of ‘Remo’ fame is directing the movie and Sathyan Sooryan of ‘Khaidi’ fame is handling the camera.

Karthi has asked the team to change the script and add scenes that are sensible. Rashmika may have to adjust her dates again for this film. She has already signed Allu Arjun’s film.

A testing time for Vijay and Karthi

No major Telugu film is releasing during the Diwali festival weekend paving way for two dubbed movies occupying all the screens in Telugu states. While Karthi has steady following and market in Telugu, Vijay has been trying to get a hold of the Telugu market for a long time.

Not having Telugu films in competition is a huge advantage for Vijay and Karthi but this season is also a testing time for them. Karthi’s “Khaidi” seems to be a serious movie with no glamour quotient and entertainment. It is an intense drama. Such films have limited appeal at the box-office. Besides the niche content, Karthi’s popularity has also come crashing down with a series of flops. This is a big test for Karthi in the Telugu market.

Vijay, on the other hand, has nothing to lose but gain. His “Whistle” has generated terrific buzz all over India. If the film clicks with Telugu audiences, he would stabilize his market here. Story:

Dev, a Ukraine returned bachelor from a rich family, is a photographer, adventurer,and mountaineer. Meghna is an entrepreneur based out of San Francisco. Dev who sees Meghna profile on Facebook, start trying for her. Both meet in India and friendship starts. However, as in any love story, conflict starts around Dev’s profession. Rest of the movie is about how the couple resolve it

Analysis:

Dev is a stylish but zero substance film that tries to be a love story. Initial few minutes of the films give the impression that we are about to watch a film with novelty. But, soon the audience wishful thinking shatters. After taking off promisingly, debut director Rajath Ravishankar struggles to narrate the film in an engaging manner. The characterizations lack clarity, especially for the hero. The director has added all wishful thoughts to the Dev character which is a photographer, biker, nature lover and mountaineer who climbs Mount Everest, civil architect, lover boy and what not. Similarly, a self-driven woman, who has been raised in the USA, who became an owner of a product company by age of 25, behaves like a typical filmy girl in her India visit. The love story between Dev and Meghna is bland, lacks any strong conflict point. Prakashraj character is another sad part of the film. Throughout of the film, he stares at his son Dev with love, says “Ninnu chusthunte mee amma gurthukuvastondhira “ dialogue repeatedly. Ramyakrishna(heroine’s mother) has no role in the proceedings. After a boring first half, the second half goes on even more directionless.

There are many songs but the audience may not remember one by the time they exit. However,the background score is good. Cinematography, Background score,Locations, Visuals etc Technical values are superior

Performances: Karthi and Rakul are okay, Ramya Krishna & Prakash Raj’s acting skills are unutilized. R J Vignesh played the hero’s friend role which got more screen time than the hero at times. His character is annoying. Amrutha Srinivasan is ok as the hero’s friend

Verdict:

Dev is easily one of the most boring movies in recent times.Hero characterization is unclear with half baked ideology. Karthi and Rakul are okay,Ramya Krishna & Prakash Raj’s acting skills are unutilized. An avoidable film even if you’re a fan of any of the lead actors.

Now Suriya along with his brother Karthi donated Rs 25 lakhs to the people of Kerala who have been shattered with heavy rains, floods and landslides.

The actors donated this hefty amount to Kerala Chief Minister Distress Relief Fund which will be used for the needy. Due to continuous downpour in the state, 29 people died and 54000 people turned homeless. Indian Army has been taking care of the rescue operations and relief camps have been set up across the state.

Story:

Chinnababu film begins with an introduction to RudraRaju’s humongous family and the relations within. Rudraraju (Satyaraj) wants a son but becomes the father of five daughters from his two wives. While looking for a third wife, his first wife becomes pregnant and delivers a boy Krishnamraju(Karthi). Karthi grows up, two nieces want to marry him but he falls in love with an outsider Neerada(Sayesha).Knowing that heir apparent Karthi is liking outside girl, disputes ignite within the big family. Father satyaraj gives an ultimatum that his son can marry only with consent from all his 5 elder sisters. Rest of the film is how Karthi tries to convince the rest of the family to give nod for his marriage.

Analysis:

Chinnababu starts off on lighter vein and interesting note. Karthi’s character Krishnamraju as a farmer offers something difference than current days’ run of the mill characterizations. Dialogues addressing the negligence of farming profession are impressive. There are few social message snippets in initial stage of the film which slows transforms into out and out family oriented film. As Karthi loves an outsider Neerada( Sayesha ) , the trouble brews within the family. Surendra Raju is the villain character, entire villainy is so clichéd. The film becomes increasingly farcical post interval. There’s a lot of heavy sentiment that bears television serial. The sentiment after a point gets repetitive and boring.A couple of songs by D.Imman are good but the background score is old school.

Adequate care has been taken care in dubbing this film into Telugu, but the huge number of character artists unfamiliar to Telugu audience is a negative aspect.Satyaraj ,Karthi , Sayesha and all lead actors performed well in this emotional film. Director Pandiraj is succeeded in delivering a decent film, but this caters very strictly for targeted women audience!

Verdict:

Chinnababu first half is decent, second half is stuffed with heavy dose of sentiment scenes. Overall, it isan average fare for targeted family audience and others may find it difficult to absorb the sentiment. This rural family entertainer has some positive elements, only caters to limited section of audience
