Has BJP fielded Purandeswari against Naidu ?

0

After releasing an autobiographical account of Harirama Jogaiah that has enough content to embarrass TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu, Purandeswari, his sister-in-law, has fired a salvo at the chief mininster Naidu- show the accounts for the funds the centre so far released for the Polavaram project.
Purandeswari, who is national in-charge of BJP’s Mahila Morcha, asked the Naidu’s government to come out with details of the accounts for central assistance extended so far by the Prime Minister Modi led NDA government, especially in the case of Polavarm project if it wants more funds or bills reimbersed.

This is indicative of centre’s mind that it has got doubts about the way the funds put to use by the TDP government.

Sometime back a similar question was raised by the Polavaram development authority. The CEO of the Authority expressed dissatisfaction over the work done on Polavaram project. According to Authority’s letter, between January and June 2015, the physical progress of the work did not exceed 2 per cent of target set for the period. He even wanted to verify the physical progress of the work. After this letter, a BJP team visited Polavarm project site and found no work at all. They announced this in a press conference in Vijayawada and said there was no progress in the construction of Polavaram project.
Now Purandeswari raised the same point in a meeting in Vijayawada Monday carrying forward the “Polavaram’ controversy further.

” The state Government has asked the Centre to reimburse nearly Rs. 1,950 crore that it claims to have spent on Polavaram project but the Union Government could concede that request as it was backed by the expenditure details,” she said. According to Purandeswari, who has been aggressively raising the issues that lands the TDP leadership in defense, any central government expects the funds it releases to be put to use properly and for intended purpose. Submitting the accounts for the funds was necessary for the state government for further release of central assistance, she added.

Purandeswari sought to dilute in the importance of special category status which the opposition parties demanding. The BJP leader said Andhra Pradesh would in fact get more than what was mentioned in Andhra Pradesh State Reorganization Act and it was unfair for them to raise the issue and blame Prime Minister Modi who was committed to help Andhra Pradesh in every conceivable way.Has BJP fielded Purandeswary to raise the embarrassing points for the Naidu’s government? This question arises if one goes by the way she has been campaigning for BJP in the past one year targeting TDP.

Chief minister Chandrababau Naidu has given new chant for Telugu people of successor state of Andhra Pradesh: ” Mana Amaravati” (Our Amaravati). The objective of the slogan is to transform ” Amaravati ” a magical word that should reverberate in very town, village and house in Andhra Pradesh. He wants everyone chant Amaravati starting from tomorrow until the foundation stone is laid on October 22, 2015 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at UdhandaRayunipalem on the banks of River Krishna in Guntur district.

Naidu called upon the party all leaders at all levels in the organization structure to participate in the all programs connected to Amaravati Sankustapanana ceremony commencing from tomorrow. Naidu addressed a teleconference with MLA, MLC, and MPs of the party this morning . He asked them to participate in 10K and 5K runs being organized on October 18 to create Amaravati awareness among the people and about the importance developing Amaravati as world-class capital. These runs are part of the campaign to persuade people to participate in the capital construction in way or the other. He was very particular about the participation of MPs, MLAs, MLCs and other leaders of the party.
He briefed them about the ‘Mana matti- Mana neeru – Mana Amaravathi’ and asked then ensure that party leaders, workers, sympathizers participated in the program in a big way.

On the other side, despite green tribunal directive not take up ground leveling activities before getting environmental clearance for the capital construction project, the civil works for the foundation stone laying ceremony are in full swing. The main theme of the event is ‘Sunrise State,’ (opposition criticizing this as ‘son-rise state) and the main stage would have a huge digital screen showing the sun rising on the horizon. Rising sun is the line for investment promotion campaign of Andhra Pradesh. The event manager, Mumbai-based Wizcraft Event Managers , which gave a presentation of the theme in the cabinet meeting, is meticulously putting the theme of chief minister Naidu to practice as per Vastu. A representative of CRDA told telugu360.com that Vastu was being followed at every step- raising the stage, seating arrangement, fixing the location of foundation laying ceremony, facing of the state, galleries, in-gates and out-gates of the venue.

The erection of the main stage began with workers mounting steel poles on the ground. The huge dais overlooking the Krishna river is being arranged in North Eastern direction to face the Krishna river.”River is the governing force for us. The capitals heart lies in the river,” the CRDA sources said. The 200-acrea area chosen for performing Puja for laying foundation stone, has been taken over by the police to take care of the security plan commensurate with the expected gathering.

Naidu unhappy over bankers in AP

0

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu displeasure over bankers for their non-cooperation in extending credit to farmers and highlighted the need for sensitizing bankers. Naidu addressed the bankers in the 191st meeting of the SLBC of Andhra Pradesh in Vijayawada, Expressing anguish over the spurt of farmer suicides in the state, the Chief Minister said that bankers had been adamant and have been showing the government in bad light despite the government extending debt redemption scheme and making capital infusion for the welfare of farmers in the state.

“Andhra Pradesh cannot have farmer suicides. We need to be sensitive to their problems. Lack of viability of commercial crops, defunct pump sets are some of the main reasons. We need to bring down debts and for this, we need cooperation of bankers. Every farmer should be able to carry out agriculture without debts,” he added. Crop insurance has become a major problem in the state. Despite farmers paying premiums, they are not able to insure their crops. “Hence, we need to prepare a vulnerability index and sort issues district-wise,” the Chief Minister explained.

The Chief Minister also expressed his dissatisfaction with bankers lagging in technological advancement. He sought information on how many banks do not have Core Banking Solutions and why they have not been able to digitize their data completely.

Q&A session

Q: Do you think that the following democratic tradition will constrain the efforts for economic development ? What assurance can you give us that politics won’t trouble the new state ‘s efforts towards development?

Naidu: “it all depends on the quality of leadership. A motivating leadership and stable leadership can balance development. For example: The previous government at the Centre brought in the Land Acquisition Act. It made land acquisition impossible. But, to create a win-win situation for everyone in the state, I adopted the land pooling system where people responded to my call. We have procured 33,000 acres of land with land owners voluntarily giving their land, with the hope of getting better value for their land in future. Despite being a Democracy, we have completed such a massive task with people’s support.”

Q: What would AP do to help start-ups?

Naidu: I want to make Andhra Pradesh the Silicon Valley of India. In my last stint as the Chief Minister, I had promoted a lot of entrepreneurs. Now, I want to start-ups and MSMEs We already have established a Start-up Village in Visakhapatnam. We are also going to start the Innovation Fund. That apart, a venture capital fund and incubation centre are on cards.

Q: How are you balancing environmental concerns with fast clearances of projects? Can you do environmental impact assessments in such short time?

Naidu: We will take all measures for environmental assessments and follow regulations. Other routine clearances will be granted within 21 days. For a greener state, we will go in for massive plantation.

Q: A lot of students go abroad from India- most from AP. What steps do you take to retain them in Andhra Pradesh? What steps do you take to encourage research in Amaravati especially bioengineering?

Naidu: I want to make AP an education hub. In my previous stint, I have increased the number of engineering colleges from 30 to 300. We also brought a lot of focus on biotechnology.

Q: What are you doing to get good universities to AP?

Naidu: I’m networking with many world-class universities. And, we are also inviting foreign faculty members to come as visiting professors to our colleges/universities.

Jagan asks Bandar ryots not to cede lands to Naidu

0

Opposition leader YS Jaganmohan Reddy today shifted his focus on Bandar farmers, who are facing the threat of losing lands for the development of deep water port and industrial corridor near Machilipatnam. YSRC supremo Jaganmohan Reddy has become a tireless fighter these days. The other day he sided with the river front villages of Amaravati development region, who were opposing acquisition of their lands for proposed capital city. yesterday, he was seen preparing the students and youth for a fight for special status. In between he visits houses of farmers who committed suicides and consoles the families of those who were killed in accidents. Today he is with farmers of Machilipatnam asking them to continue their fight against the what he called forcible land acquisition. Jagan is seen everywhere- an usual activity for any opposition leader.

“We will go to courts for justice, We will stage dharnas, if necessary we will organize district bandh,” Jagan told the farmers ” Acquiring the land against your will is illegal. If you are not willing, no force can take your lands,” Jagan told the cheering crowds.

Experts caution Naidu against disturbing forest lands

0

Chief minister Chadrababu Naidu’s public announcement that the government would identify about 17,000 acres in East and West Godavari districts to make room for industries has created furor among the environmentalists and public spirited activists. While talking to the people in Dwaraka Tirumala, Naidu revealed his plan to industrialize the two agriculture-rich and rice growing districts. He said the two district did not get industrialized because of non-availability of land. To overcome this, Naidu announced, the state government, would soon denotify the forest land to an extent of 17,000 acres.
It created loud protest from the environmentalists and activists.
Professor Chigurupati Ramachandraia of centre for economic and social sciences (CESS), Hyderabad, took strong objection to the proposal to denotify the forest land to make room for industries.

According to Ramachandraiah, a popular voice against the anti-people projects in the state for over 15 years, if the forest land is denotified and industries are set up, wonderful ecological balance, naturally evolved through ages, will get disturbed with serious consequences for the people of two districts. He demanded the state not to resort to the massacre of sensitive coastal environment.

The reasons Prof. Ramachandraiah cites to oppose the denotification of forest to facilitate industries are:

1. The area is thickly populated geography and is coastal ecology.

2. The two districts are known for their high degree of agriculture and allied activities especially fisheries.

3. Outside Agency area, the two districts have very litter forest area.

4. There is a fine balance between the density of population , high density agriculture and coastal activities. As the people are heavily dependent on the agriculture, any attempt to locate industries in the agro-fisheries zone would disturb the balance naturally evolved for ages.

5. Location of industries is not a standard solution for all districts. Industries should go to the area which suits them and agriculture should be allowed in the agro-ecological region. Any bungling in this division will lead to a disaster.

Dr S Jeevananda Reddy, former chief technical advisor, World Meteorological Organization (WMO/UN).
Reddy also expressed similar sentiment and opposed the proposal to denotify the forest lands in the name of establishing Industries in West and East Godavari district. ” There should be clarity on establishing industries. Industries are two types: location specific and non-location specific. If the government follows this principle in locating the industries half of the problems are solved,” he said . He said nobody would oppose if the government set up location specific industries in Agro-rich zones. ” In the name of industrializing the zone, without applying mind whether they are needed or not, if government set up industries in rice growing districts it will lead to serious contamination,” he said. Reddy further added that, “primary motive of industry is benefit to the individual, who sets up the industry, and for such industries, government should not resort to denotification of forests.

Dr EAS Sarma, former secretary, Government of India.

Dr Sarma strongly opposed the move. According to Sarma, chief minister Naidu is resorting to denotification of forest land to set up industrial units as he feared resentment among farmers.
He urged the union government to reject the proposal to denotify the land from AP government outright. “The government decided to de-notify 16,000 acres of forest land to accommodate several industrial units in West Godavari district on the ostensible ground that farmers are resisting acquisition of agricultural lands and, therefore, the industry should be handed over the required extent of forest land. This runs counter to the State’s obligation under Article 48A of the Constitution, the National Environment Policy approved by the Union Cabinet , the forest conservation laws enacted by the legislature and the norms of forest conservation and the Doctrine of Public Trust stipulated by Hon’ble Supreme Court from time to time.” Sarma said.

Kapu’s will soon get BC status: Naidu

0

CM Chandrababu Naidu once again assured that state government was committed to include the Kapus to the list of Other Backward Castes (OBC). He reiterated his stand today in Dwaraka Tirumala today. Naidu assurance assumes signficance in backdrop of demand from many upper castes for reservations across the country. Yesterday, many upper castes had held a demonstration demanding reservation. In Andhra Pradesh, members of Kapu, one of the biggest land-owning comminuties in state have been demanding OBC status. But, the demand is being fiercely contested by the origanal OBC communties. Hence the delay in including the community to the OBC list.

So, Naidu periodiacally reiterates his poll-commitment to the Kapus. On Thursday, in Dwaraka Tirumala, he said a fianance corporation would be set up with Rs 100 initial capital held poor among the Kapus.

The CM said the non-availability of land had become roadblock for the industrialization of East and West Godavari district. ” To overcome this problem and to make available enough land to set up industries, state government is planning to denotify 17,000 acres of forest land soon,” he said.

Naidu unleashes scramble for houses among ministers

0

Naidu’s shifting mantra is working terribly on all the ministers. Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu silently changed his ‘makam’ to the river front village in Guntur district. The chief minister’s wife and other family members had performed Pujas in the house last week and he is expected to shift his base fully from Wednesday. This has forced all the cabinet ministers scramble for houses in Vijayawada and Guntur for some accommodation. Welfare minister appears to be the first minister to get a small , but decent, house in a colony opposite Acharya Nagarajuna University near Guntur. He said he didn’t want to be reminded by boss about my shifting to Vijayawada. ” I must follow boss. I searched this area and got a small house in complex. At this juncture, when the chief minister is working for 18 hours a day, I am not supposed to search of ministerial bungalow,” Kishore Babu told Telugu360.com from Guntur. He is likely to shift in a day or two. “I am buying some furniture. This is the reason for my delay,” he added.

Other ministers Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Ayyanna Patrudu, Kamineni Srinivas, P Narayana and some others are also said to have identified buildings for their residences. Of course, Devineni Umamaheswar Rao shifted his office long back and he has no residence problem has he is from the district only. As there is no separate secretariat, ministers are trying to locate their offices along with offices of secretaries and heads of the department in same complex. So, each office is likely to be transformed in to mini secretariat.

The government has already started renovation of the government guesthouses in and around Vijayawada and has released Rs 2 crore to relocation of ministers and secretaries. Chief minister instructed the ministers and secretaries to make Vijayawada as the real seat of power and Hyderabad as the camp office.

Naidu’s shifting has unleashed a rat race for houses in Vijayawada and Guntur among many ministers and MLAa, Whips and senior officers.

“Naidu and KCR on wild goose chase”

0

The CPI (M) politburo member BV Raghavulu warned the governments of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh not to depend too much for investment on countries like China which were in financial crisis as it would lead to economic crisis at home front as well.

He said the two Telugu states revolving around China, Singapore and America for investment without knowing the deeper crisis they were passing through. He ridiculed the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for their extraordinary interest in China. He also referred to the proposed KCR’s Rs 2 crore special luxury flight trip to China.”It’s all wild goose chase”, he said in Nizambad.

Given the worsening world economic situation, and especially that of China, Raghuvulu said there was no guaranty that any of these three country would come forward to invest in Andhra and Telangana.

Raghavulu was critical of Telangana and and Andhra state government for raising false hopes among the people about the flood of investment they were claiming to come from China, Singapore, Japan etc.

He reminded these governments the prediction of Arvind Subramanin, Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India that deflationary conditions were likely to engulf the economy unless the powers that be were alert and take corrective monitory and fiscal measures

Will Naidu’s dream rail chug by 2018?

0

In the backdrop of the reports that centre refused to give go ahead on the Vijayawada metro rail because of traffic un-viability, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu asked metro-rail man Sreedharan to complete the first phase of Vijayawada Metro Rail Project by August 2018 and Visakhapatnam by December 2018. Sridharan is advising the state on metro rail projects. Recently, the Centre has reportedly ruled out any financial assistance to the Construction of Vijayawada Metro Rail because of financial un-viability.

According to sources in the government the Centre has made it clear that metro rail in Vijayawada is not viable with the population being less than 20 lakh. It also stated that because of less population , the metro project was liable to run into losses. This forces the people to think that Naidu was giving unnecessary and unrealistic hype to his projects in new capital region to gain political mileage. today’s the meeting between chief minister Naidu and Sridharan took place to allay the misgivings among the publi. The chief minister informed Sridharan that the project could be executed with the support of Japan International Cooperation Agency .

“We should expedite the process of setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and appoint a permanent officer who will monitor the progress of the project,” Naidu told Sridharan. They have decided to meet on September 9, in Vijayawada.

Naidu shared experience of his Turkey trip. He said the traffic management system in Turkey was efficient. “Their road and rail systems are managed well. This has not only increased the tourist arrivals but also improved the per income ,” the chief minister explained.

Yes, Naidu is outdated : JC endorses Jagan’s remark

0

Maverick TDP MP JC Diwakar Reddy again created flutter in the lobbies of Assembly today by endorsing YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s remark that Naidu was outdated politician. Participating in the debate on the special category status in Assembly today Jagan said he was contemporaneous while CM was outdated.
When referred to Jagan’s comment, he said Jagan was right.

” See, Naidu is not as angry as Jagan is. He is cool. He is outdated,” JC said adding that Jagan become ‘latest’ because he was too angry. Of course, there is an element of sarcasm. later switching over to the subject of special status, “The special status is un-achievable,” he said, at a time when Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution urging centre to bestow special status on AP. The Anantapur MP was unambiguously said centre had ruled out the special status to any state leave alone AP.

Referring to the demand of CM’s resignation, Diwakar Reddy said,”even if the Andhra Pradesh chief minister resigns as CM or withdraws support to the BJP led NDA government, AP would not get special category state status.” If Jagan assures that he would get the special status with resignations, he said, along with 10 more MPs he would resign the very next moment. Diwakar Reddy, however, said he was hopeful of getting a better package than what was given to Bihar.

Naidu disappoints party MLCs

0

Chief minister Naidu disappointed party MLCs, who also want to ‘dedicate’ themselves to the development of their area. They urged chief minister to start constituency development fund for them also on the lines of Rajya Sabha member, who are also beneficiaries of MPLADs. Rajya Sabha members do not represent any constituency. But, they can adopt a constituency and utilize these funds. Each MP is given Rs 4 crore each year. Telugu Desam MLCs wanted such an opportunity to them also.

In Andhra Pradesh, MLAs are given Rs one crore constituency development fund to take up works which need immediate attention. But, Naidu said to have politely turned down MLCs request for area development fund in the TDLP meeting on Monday evening. But, the CM is learnt to have promised to allocate Rs 2 crore fund to each legislator in the State in addition to the funds, what they are getting for the development of their respective constituencies.

Congr fixes dates to file cases vs Modi, Naidu and Venkaiah

0

Andhra Pradesh Congress announced the dates for the filing of cheating cases against Prime Minister Modi, chief minister Chandrababu Naidu and union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu. PCC President N Raghuvira Reddy said on September 7, 8 and 9 the cases would be booked in all 1200 police station across the Andhra Pradesh.

He says chief minister Naidu not only failed miserably in bargaining for the special category status to the Andhra Pradesh which was the commitment of union government.

“For union government the party in power is immaterial. Party can come and go. But the administration continues forever. For this we have a permanent bureaucracy. The UPA cabinet approved the special category status on March 2, 2014 itself. The proposal was even sent to planning commission. When the planning Commission was studying the issue, NDA government had scrapped it. Now Arun Jaitley says the matter had not had planning commission clearance. If Modi feels he can announce the special category status in minutes,” Rahuvira said.

According to Raghuvira, Naidu is feeling shy of raising the UPA cabinet decision to buttress his defense for special status because the credit goes to Congress government.

“The whole issue is nothing but blatant cheating of people by state and central governments. It’s sheer political bankrutcy on the part of TDP and BJP leadership. We want to drag them to the court on behalf of people of Andhra Pradesh,” the PCC president said in Madakasira, Anantapur district.

Modi’s Bihar poll-package raises Naidu’s hopes

0

Prime Minister Modi announced an unprecedented poll-package of Rs 1.25 lakh crore to Bihar. At a time when states like Andhra Pradesh and Odisha are demanding special category status or special package, Prime Minister promise of whopping financial assistance is expected to create problems for ruling parties in these two states.

Is it fair for a leader like Modi, who is being projected as statesman of world repute, stoop to such level of announcing an electoral package with ridiculously large amount when more than half of Indian states crying for central help?

Plagued with political troubles arising out of denial of special category status to Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is meeting Prime Minister Modi at 4 pm on August 20, 2015. Naidu sought appointment with Modi in the backdrop of growing political unrest in the state. CPI had already organized a successful bandh. YSRCP Jagan has called for another bandh on August 29 and Congress is upping the ante following its worker Muni Koti’s self-immolation in Tiruopati. So Naidu wants to extract some package to Andhra Pradesh before the commencement of Monsoon session scheduled to begin from August 31.

Modi’s announcement has raised hopes of similar package for Andhra and everybody believes that Naidu’s visit to Delhi would certainly result in a package. Failing to get such a package would be a loss of face for the TDP supremo in the face of Bihar package.

What is interesting is that what PM announced was a poll time package and the record of implementing such poll promises is very poor for all Indian political parties. Modi, when campaigning in Andhra Pradesh for 2014 election, announced in Tirupati that after the division of the state Seemandhra had become an orphan and he would come to its aide. All BJP leaders from Modi to Amit Shah, without applying mind to the implementation aspect, promised special category status to Andhra Pradesh. Nothing has come out even after 15 months after Mode made his announcement.

What Modi made in Bihar was a poll-time promise and was made with an eye on the establishment of BJP rule in the state. The question arises now is would Modi announce such a huge package to Andhra Pradesh when there are no elections around and where the BJP is not at all a force without alliance with TDP. After all, all packages are electorally motivated. They are scarcely humanitarian in nature.

Amaravati to become Istanbul of East

0

Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu instructed officials to prepare plans for the development of proposed new capital on the banks of river Krishna as an important tourist destination in the world like Istanbul. Last week he was in ancient city and studied the Turkish city’s dramatic growth in tourism which surpassed many world leaders such as New York, Singapore, Dubai etc.

Upon arrival from Istanbul, Naidu convened a meeting of the advisory committee that is looking after  the construction of Amaravathi. The Chief Minister seems to have greatly impressed by the phenomenal growth of tourism there. Naidu, who wants to build a capital for Andhra Pradesh that would be globally attractive for tourists and investors equally. In the meeting  Naidu said he wants river front Amaravati to resemble Istanbul, which is separated by Bosphorus strait in to Asian and European parts.

“Recalling his recent visit to Istanbul, the Chief Minister lauded the Turkey government’s efforts in utilizing advanced technology to develop the city as a modern one in just seven years. He added that Istanbul, with a population of 2 crore, is emerging as the fastest growing city in the world,” Chief Minister’s Office said in a press note.

Naidu is modelling the city borrowing several features from various modern cities like Tokyo, and Singapore in East. Now, he is looking westward. He seems to have found that Istanbul’s tourism is best in the world. Just see at the growth of the Istanbul which is faster than Paris. In terms of international tourists,Istanbul has outpaced New York and Singapore to become fifth most visited city in the world. The city’s projected visitor in 2015 are 12.56 million.

Growth-wise, the city reported strongest growth at 11.4 percent, catapulting from its seventh position previous year to fifth by international overnight visitors. Both Bangkok and Dubai are trailing at 8 per cent, of course second after Istanbul. Istanbul, where one could see both ancient and modern cultures eo-exist, was built by Greeks as Byzantium in 700 BC. A key hub on Silk Road then, Istanbul benefited from its geographical location also. This is exactly how Andhra Pradesh chief minister wants to re-position Amaravati in world trade map.

Naidu’s objective is to make Andhra Pradesh with its 900 km-long coastline, the global hub in sea and air routes and also make it a meeting point of East and West technological development.
