Campaign on welfare, development for Tirupati by-poll: Jagan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) founder Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday instructed his party leaders to rely on promoting the government’s development and welfare activities as the poll strategy for the forthcoming Tirupati by-election on April 17.

“Take the development and welfare activities of the state government to the people and chalk out a strategy so that the results of the by-election should ensure that the nation looks towards Andhra Pradesh,” said Reddy.

During the by-poll preparedness review meeting, he introduced YSRCP’s candidate, M. Gurumoorthy, to the leaders at his camp office.

Reddy called on the leaders to canvass how the state is transparently implementing welfare schemes irrespective of caste, religion and political affiliation without corruption and bias.

The Chief Minister instructed the party leaders to visit each and every house in the Parliamentary constituency and explain the government’s activities.

He also called on them to publicise the commitment of the state government towards benefiting and empowering women.

“YSRCP won a landslide in the local body elections by God’s grace and the whole country will be observing Tirupati by-election and the result of this by-poll should be a message. One minister will be appointed for each Assembly segment as in-charge in addition to an MLA,” the Chief Minister noted.

He cautioned the party leaders not to be over confident and told them to work with coordination to ensure Gurumoorthy’s victory with a good majority.

Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy, Balineni Srinivas Reddy, Perni Venkatramaiah and a host of other ministers and leaders attended the review meeting.

Meanwhile, the four week stay by the High Court in the CID probe against Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo Nara Chandrababu Naidu can be seen as a lifeline for the party to focus on the Tirupati by-election for which TDP was the first party to declare a candidate, Panabaka Lakshmi.

Tirupati battle will decide Jagan-Naidu fates?

0

There are one lakh acres of Government lands in and around Tirupati temple town. As such, it has got all the potential to become a vibrant capital city for Andhra Pradesh. Former MP Chinta Mohan says that he has placed this demand before the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but he has refused to acknowledge this. Even in Brahmamgari Kalagnanam, it was written that Tirupati would become the State Capital.

Chinta Mohan brought all these issues to the fore now ahead of the Tirupati bypoll. He says this by-election is going to be a crucial turning point in the history of not just AP but the whole India. Its result will decide the fates of both Jaganmohan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu.

Chinta Mohan, who was a long time Congress MP from Tirupati, lost to the YCP in 2019. He entered the poll campaign once again launching a scathing attack on CM Jagan Reddy. Chinta Mohan dropped a bombshell saying that it was his close friend YSR who sowed the seeds for the Telangana movement in order to bring down the Kotla Vijayabhasker Reddy Government at that time. Afterwards, the agitation moved to the Osmania university from where KCR picked it up and continued it relentless till the State was separated.

Chinta Mohan said that there was no difference between Jagan and Modi. Jagan has supported the LIC bill in the Parliament without any principles.

Jagan chooses Gurumurthy as YSRCP’s Tirupati bypoll candidate

1

YSRCP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday selected M. Gurumurthy as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming high-stake Tirupati Parliamentary by-election.

“M. Gurumurthy’s name has been confirmed as the YSRCP candidate for the Tirupati Lok Sabha bye-election by party President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy,” a party statement said.

Gurumurthy, who has a medical background, walked with Reddy in his ‘padayatra’ before the YSRCP stormed to power.

The candidate announcement comes at a time when the ruling party is on a high with the recent thumping triumph in the urban and rural local body polls.

Tirupati Lok Sabha seat (reserved for SC) fell vacant after incumbent Balli Durga Prasad succumbed to coronavirus in 2020.

Following his death, Reddy accommodated his son Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy as an MLC.

Principal opposition party Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was the first one to announce its candidate, Panabaka Lakshmi.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has zeroed in on its candidate but is yet to announce the name as it will be done by the party’s national leadership.

The BJP managed to choose its own candidate even though the supporters of its local ally, Jana Sena, wanted their man to fight the election.

All eyes in the southern state will be on the Tirupati by-election as it will be the first major election after the 2019 polls.

The BJP is taking keen interest in the contest as indicated by the time and energy party leaders have been expending in the temple town since several months. Party Secretary and state in-charge Sunil Deodhar has been spending considerable time there and is also believed to have taken a flat on rent.

Union cabinet berth to Tirupati LS bypoll winner: BJP’s offer to lure voters

1

The BJP has come with a new offer “Union cabinet berth in Modi cabinet” to lure voters in the upcoming Tirupati Lok Sabha bypoll.

The party is planning to take this slogan aggressively in the poll campaigning promising that if Tirupati voters elect BJP candidate, he will be made a union minister in Modi’s cabinet.

Andhra Pradesh has no representation in the union cabinet after Modi became PM for second term in 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

This is because neither the ruling YSRCP or the opposition TDP are part of the BJP-led NDA government.

When TDP was an alliance partner in NDA between 2014 and 2018, there was representation for AP in Modi’s first cabinet.

But TDP quit NDA before the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The YSRCP though maintaining ‘friendly relations’ with BJP and Modi on all issues, it did not join the NDA government.

Against this backdrop, the BJP national leadership has decided to lure Tirupathi voters as well as AP people with union minister post in Modi’s cabinet, if they elect BJP candidate.

The BJP is coming out with this strategy after it became official that Janasena will not contest the Tirupati seat and will support BJP.

It remains to be seen whether this offer attracts Tirupati voters or not towards BJP.

“Caste politics” heat up in Tirupati, Janasena happy!

0

“Caste politics” have gained momentum in Tirupati ahead of the upcoming crucial byelection for Tirupati Lok Sabha seat.

The latest political developments in Tirupati seem to be unfolding in favour of Janasena.

Speculations are rife in political circles that over 250 key Kapu leaders held a ‘secret meeting’ in a farmhouse near Chandragiri to decide their ‘political strategy’ for the Tirupati bypoll.

Leaders from five Balija caste associations are also said to have participated in this meeting.

In the meeting, Balija, Kapu leaders reportedly decided that they should take part in voting only if BJP leaves Tirupati Lok Sabha seat to Janasena.

If BJP contests this election and denies seat to Janasena, Balija, Kapu caste leaders decided to vote for NOTA option in Tirupati election.

In the meeting, Kapu, Balija leaders reportedly expressed anger at the Reddy community belonging to ruling YSRCP saying that Reddys were politically suppressing them.

They questioned why Balija Bhavan was not constructed in Tirupati when there are Reddy Bhavan, Kamma Bhavan, Yadav Bhavan etc in Tirupati.

They have decided to construct Balija Bhavan with their own funds and mobilising donations from Balija, Kapu castes etc and not to seek the help of Reddy leaders of YSRCP.

These caste politics are making BJP leaders worried as they are making attempts to contest Tirupati bypoll.

TDP to hold 700 meetings to capture Hindu vote bank

3

The AP politics have taken an unexpected turn ever since Ramatheertham. All the Opposition parties are trying to grab a major share of the Hindu vote bank. The BJP is trying hard but it has already lagged behind the TDP in respect of bringing the Ramatheertham incident to the fore.

In order to take more advantage out of the prevailing situation, Chandrababu Naidu came out with a master plan. The TDP is all set to take up a massive ‘Dharma Parirakshana Yatra’ in the nook and corner of the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency. Over 10 ‘prachara rathams’ (campaign vehicles) will take part in this Yatra from January 21.

More interesting part of this is that the TDP chief has given the task of holding 700 meetings with the help of these campaign vehicles to cover every village, hamlet and major locality. Over 100 meetings in each of the 7 assembly segments.

Obviously, Chandrababu Naidu is eyeing the neutral voters among the Hindu castes and the BC communities to come back to the TDP and vote for its candidate in Tirupati bypoll. Analysts say that the field situation is not so adverse either for the Opposition party. The YCP got 2.28 lakh majority in 2019 but the TDP is hopeful of reversing this by taking advantage of the prevailing political situation.

Can BJP use ‘Telangana strategy’ to corner Naidu?

1

Everybody knows that Telangana State throws up ample chances for the voter polarisation along religious lines. That has become a big advantage for the BJP. In addition to that, KCR has extended indirect support. KCR has his own strategy in doing so. On the one side, the BJP will become strong which is enough only to weaken the Congress more than the TRS. On the other side, KCR has got indirect support from the MIM, which will never ever support the BJP anytime in future. As such, KCR is safe as long as the BJP and the Congress are equally strong but not enough to threaten the TRS winning chances.
Now, the irony is that the BJP AP leaders are hoping to use the Telangana tactics in Andhra Pradesh as well. They are going to use those strategies in the Tirupati byelection immediately. This means the BJP wants to take indirect support from Jagan Reddy just like they did in Telangana. The ultimate game plan is to make sure that the TDP would be pushed to a third place in Tirupati bypoll. A second place would be more than enough for the likes of BJP AP President Somu Veerraju and such leaders in order to claim great credit before the Modi-Shah duo.
There are calculations now in political circles that the BJP-Jagan strategy would be to use money and muscle power. Also, being in power in AP and at the Centre, both the parties have got the obvious advantage to hold a sway on the election machinery and the polling process just like in the recent GHMC elections.
But, the question remains whether the BJP, which got less than 1 percent vote share in 2019 in AP, can push the TDP to a third place in Tirupati now. That too, at a time, when the anti-establishment sentiment is evident against the Jagan regime and also against the Modi regime for not fulfilling Special Category Status promise and the like. Like in Telangana, the BJP also has no chance for instigating communal feelings to get huge electoral benefits. Only a miracle can make the BJP dream come true in Tirupati.

BJP spent Rs 50,000 Cr in Tirupati: No chance for Pawan

2

The BJP AP leaders are giving blow after blow to the people with their non-stop sensational statements. Their latest comments are regarding how the Modi Government has done lots of things to develop Tirupati. BJP AP President Somu Veerraju has gone a few steps forward and claimed that the Modi regime spent over Rs. 50,000 Cr for the overall development of the Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency.
All these thousands of crores were spent for laying national highways, development of smart city, infrastructure, national institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology, etc in the temple town and its jurisdiction. What more, a port and many industries have also come up. There are fast growing special economic zones like Sri City.

Now, the question is arising whether the BJP still deserves to put up its candidate in Tirupati bypoll instead of the Jagan Sena Party of Pawan Kalyan. The BJP Government might have spent Rs. 50,000 Cr but it got less than 1 percent vote share in the entire AP in 2019 while it got far lesser percent vote share compared to Pawan in Tirupati LS seat.

Nevertheless, the BJP leaders are raising their voice each day as if there is no party in AP that is ready to give any type of political or electoral challenge to it. The BJP AP leaders are considering as if both the ruling YCP and the Opposition TDP are non-existent while Pawan Kalyan’s party is no more than their pocket organisation.

Peddireddy dares Naidu for referendum on Tirupati bypoll

2

YCP’s daring Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy gave a strong counter to former CM Chandrababu Naidu who challenged for a referendum on the Jagan Reddy’s 3 Capitals plan yesterday. Peddireddy now threw a counter challenge to Naidu whether the TDP chief is ready for a referendum on the Tirupati byelection. Both the TDP and the YCP were making all out strategies and preparations to win the bypoll without fail. The TDP is hopeful of winning the seat by taking advantage of anti-Government feelings but the YCP is confident of its strong voter base there.

Probably with that confidence only, Peddireddy has asserted that Chandrababu Naidu should have to take political sanyas after the Tirupati byelection. The TDP is certain to face defeat once again here. If the TDP chief has any courage, he should accept the challenge for treating this bypoll as a referendum.

Peddireddy further attacked the TDP, saying that the people had long back realised and rejected the betrayal politics of Chandrababu Naidu. The AP voters had already given their verdict against Naidu by giving 151 out of the total 175 assembly seats in the 2019 election. That referendum was enough to reject Naidu permanently. Once again, Chandrababu would have to face defeat in the Tirupati bypoll undoubtedly.

3 reasons why BJP won’t give Tirupati ticket to Pawan Kalyan

2

There is no doubt the Jana Sena Party has got a far higher voter base than the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. The JSP got over 6 percent vote share in 2019 elections as against less than 1 percent of the BJP. Probably, this is the confidence with which Senani is hopeful of convincing the BJP to give the Tirupati bypoll ticket to the Jana Sena.
But, there are three strong issues that the Power Star failed to see through the power-hungry and expansionist BJP leadership in Delhi. Firstly, it is well known how the BJP leaders were repeatedly asserting that their party would win the AP polls in 2024 considering the weaknesses and dwindling fortunes of both Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu. Under such circumstances, the BJP cannot make such statements any longer if it gives the ticket to Pawan’s party.
Secondly, the BJP confidence is Jagan’s 18 months rule has been very unpopular and he has got cases. There would be no better opportunity for the BJP to demonstrate its power to bounce back in AP than Tirupati bypoll.
Thirdly, it is the BJP’s top most priority now to ensure the defeat of the TDP under any circumstances. Even if the YCP wins the seat, it would not be a big loss for the BJP since it would mean the YCP only retained its seat. But any victory of the TDP would mean a big boost to the Chandrababu leadership. That would eventually lead to the TDP emerging as a strong contender for power in 2024. By all counts, it is highly unlikely the BJP would give Tirupati ticket to Pawan’s party.

Ex IAS to be BJP-Jana Sena’s joint candidate in Tirupati?

1

The BJP and the Jana Sena Party have not yet decided on fielding a common candidate in the Tirupati bypoll. They have just decided that a joint committee will go into the issue to finalise which party candidate should contest the election. This was decided at a meeting between Pawan Kalyan and BJP National President JP Nadda the other day.
However, all of a sudden, the name of former IAS officer Dasari Srinivasulu came to the fore. Social media is abuzz with rumours that he will be the joint alliance candidate of both the BJP and the Jana Sena. It is not clear to which party this IAS officer belongs. Some say he belongs to the BJP. Others say he is being picked up by the Jana Sena Party.
Whatever, there is no official communication from the alliance partners on their future plans about the candidate. There is no information on who will be there on the joint committee that will search and finalise the candidate finally. News is coming out that the BJP is trying its best to deny the chance to the Jana Sena.
On the other hand, both the ruling YCP and the main Opposition TDP are preparing for the bypoll campaign soon. In his usual style, Jagan selected his personal physiotherapist Dr. Gurumurthy to be his party nominee. The CM did not care to give the ticket to the family members of late Balli Durgaprasada Rao whose death caused the byelection. TDP candidate Panabaka Lakshmi is starting her campaign in the next few days.

Gurumurthy likely nominee of YCP for Tirupati bypoll

0

AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy is once again giving top priority to his family’s unquestioned loyalist in selecting party nominee for Tirupati bypoll. Latest reports say that Jagan has almost decided to field Dr. Gurumurthy who has served his family and himself as well during his prolonged Padayatra across the State prior to the poll.

However, late MP Balli Durgaprasada Rao’s son and wife had also met the CM. It was being rumoured that the CM has offered their an MLC post afterwards. The sudden coming to the fore of Dr. Gurumurthy’s name has come as a big surprise for both the rival parties as well as the YCP insiders.

The candidate selections has come as a rude shock especially to the Pedda Reddys of Nellore district who have already been unhappy over the Jagan Reddy regime’s unwillingness to recognise their significance.

Already, the YCP Ministers have declared that whoever is the candidate, the party would make sure he will win the Tirupati bypoll.

YCP to field late MP’s son or wife in Tirupati bypoll

4

The rival political parties are readying to give a strong fight with each other in the bypoll to Tirupati Lok Sabha seat. The TDP has already announced former Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi’s candidature once again. The BJP is also making all out efforts to prove its existence. The YCP is making its own efforts in its own style to retain the seat.

Against this backdrop, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy held a sudden meeting with the Ministers available for him in Amaravati today. It was decided to field late MP Balli Durga Prasada Rao’s son Kalyana Chakravarty. If that does not work out, the party may as well consider the late MP’s wife. It may be recalled that Durga Prasada Rao’s untimely death due to Covid caused the byelection.

The Tirupati bypoll is indeed turning out to be a prestigious election. The ruling YCP is also not taking it easy, considering the serious fight coming from the Opposition this time. The TDP is mounting a bigger attack on the YCP on the issue of tragic incidents and atrocities that took place against the Muslim Minorities, Dalits, BCs and other sections of society.

Today’s meeting of the CM and the Ministers is exclusively meant for taking a final decision on the candidate and also how to draw an effective plan to retain the party hold on Tirupati SC segment. This poll is also going to test whether the countless cash transfer welfare programmes of Jagan Reddy would give him a proper result or not. The Opposition parties are however banking on the alleged corruption and atrocities for getting a winning chance over the YCP.

Tirupati bypolls: Sunil Deodhar holds meeting with State BJP leaders

3

Ahead of the bypolls for Tirupati Lok Sabha constituency, leaders of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have geared into action.

The Lok Sabha seat in Tirupati fell vacant after YSRCP MP Balli Durga Prasad Rao Garu succumbed to Covid-19 in a private hospital in Chennai. He was elected to the Lok Sabha from Tirupati in the 2019 general election as a member of the YSR Congress Party. The YSRCP leadership is banking on sympathy vote by allocating the Tirupati ticket to one of the members of Balli Durga Prasad.

On Saturday, BJP Andhra Pradesh affairs in-charge Sunil Deodhar had a hush-hush meeting with the state BJP leaders including party president Somuraju Veeraju, Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, Kanna Laxminarayana among others and chalked out the strategy to be adopted in the upcoming Lok Sabha bypoll in Tirupati. The BJP has decided to have a political truck with Jana Sena Party led by Pawan Kalyan.

Sources said the BJP is likely to focus on the increasing attacks on Hindu temples and raise issues like the gutting of the chariot at Antarvedi, chariot burning in a temple in Bitragunta in Nellore, the vandalisation of Nandi idol in the 12th century Kasi Visweswara Swamy temple at Makkapeta in Chittoor and the attack on Shiva temple in Agara Mangalam village in Gangadhara Nellore Mandal of Chittoor district. among others.

Further, the BJP is likely to corner the ruling YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy in attempts to dilute the age-old practices in Tirumala. The BJP may focus on the controversial decisions taken by the TTD Board with regard to the proposed sale of Sri Vari assets in Tamil Naidu, deviating from the age-old practice of signing declaration form if the devotee happens to be a non-Hindu. TTD chairman Subba Reddy, maternal uncle of Jagan Mohan Reddy, had allowed the Chief Minister to enter the abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala without signing the mandatory declaration form. The state BJP will also focus on the TTD’s move to invest the Tirumala funds in central government securities, stocks or debentures.

“In order to understand the ground realities, continuously listening to karyakartas & leaders & taking their feedback on the situations are of utmost importance. Had a one-on-one conversation with Karyakartas of Tirupati organisational district of @BJP4Andhra,” tweeted Sunil Deodhar soon after meeting the state BJP leaders and activists.

The central BJP has recently appointed Somraju Veeraju, a Kapu, to consolidate its base among the community, which has a large population in the Andhra Pradesh, while the two regional parties in the State — the YSRC and TDP — have their support base among the Reddy and Kamma community respectively.
