Duvvada IT tower shelved, 2 out of 3 projects in Vizag abandoned

0

Andhra Pradesh government has unequivocally proclaimed numerous times to develop Vishakapatnam as IT destination, however the actions speak otherwise. The IT tower at the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) premises in Duvvada has been deferred. The structure worth 40crore rupees was supposed to come up over 2.5 acres with a plinth area of 1.09 lakh sqft with plug and play facilities for IT firms.

As per The Hindu, an unnamed BJP Member of Parliament confirmed that the project is shelved. The foundation stone was laid by Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and had funds sanctioned from a particular scheme. The validity of the sanction has lapsed and the centre is in no mood to revive it. The foundation stone was laid in August 2014 however, the funds from the centre were not released in 2015.

A total of three towers were proposed in the port-city. The first tower was proposed at Siripuram, the second at Duvvada and the third at Rushikonda. While the tower at Siripuram is progressing at snail pace, the Rushikonda tower got shelved due to poor response from private developers.

The only tower at Siripuram will be Boeing plane-shaped spread across 1.2 acres being built at cost of rupees 62.7 crores, for which Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad laid the foundation stone last year.

JC Diwakar Reddy throws tantrum at Vishaka airport

Telugu Desam Party Member of Parliament J C Diwakar Reddy reportedly created ruckus at the Vishakapatnam airport after failing to reach on time. As the incident unfolds, JC was scheduled to fly with IndiGo 6E 608 but reported only 28 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. The boarding for flight closes 45 minutes before the take off. The staff courteously informed the TDP leader and also offered to accommodate him in the subsequent flight. JC threw a fit and displayed aggressive behaviour. He allegedly got extremely abusive and twitchy. Apparently, the MP entered the ticketing corner of IndiGo supposedly damaged some furniture and a printer.

However, he got away like any other VVIP as the airline had to oblige to the MPs demands. Civil aviation minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju was in the same airport lounge but purportedly denied to interfere in the issue.

Usually, the personal staff of VVIPs collect their boarding pass and inform the airlines about their travel. However, no such information was provided to the IndiGo staff on Thursday.

Indigo in its statement said that “As an airline, we will take all necessary action to address this violation”

This is not the first time for JC, as he created a ruckus at Gannavaram Airport after missing his flight last year in October where he charged into Air India office and damaged furniture.

Chandrababu forms 3-member committee to resolve Ganta-Ayyanna rift

0

Telugu Desham party decided to form a three-member committee to sort the differences between HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and R&B Ayyanna Patrudu. The decision was take at the party Coordination Committee meeting today where the discussion on Vishakapatnam Land Scam was taken up.

The meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu deliberated upon the differences cropped up in the party among Visakhapatnam leaders. The TDP supremo warned the party leaders that disciplinary actions are inevitable if the leaders don’t abide by the party principles. He expressed indignation over differences between ministers and urged them to have a face-to-face discussion to resolve the issues.

It may be recalled that Ganta had handed over an undated letter to the Chief Minister complaining against Ayyanna for indulging in anti-party activity on June 4. However, the letter was allegedly leaked to the media by some unidentified persons in Vijayawada. Ganta requested the CM to conduct an inquiry into the land scams either by the CID or the CBI.

Ganta said that the minister has tarnished the image of the party by alleging TDPs involvement in landscam. He purportedly reiterated that Ayyanna is putting the government in embarrassing situations giving an opportunity to opposition leaders like Botsa Satyanarayana and Purandeswari to target the ruling party.

Naidu unhappy over sluggish “Smart City”

0

Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was a bit confused today when the consortium of global companies, appointed to prepare master plan for Smart Cities, sought another 18 months to prepare a detailed plan for making Vizag a smart city. Today in a review meeting , held at Vizag, the representatives from AECOM, KPMG and IBO said they needed six months for basic analysis at field level, six months for the preparation of implementation plan and six months for the preparation of basic master. Naidu did not agree with them. Expressing dissatisfaction at the delay, the CM told them how the Singapore agency prepared the complete master plan for the Amaravati capital in just six months. Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu was also present in the meeting.

Naidu also told them how the Singapore experts stuck to their deadline. Even though Prime Minister announced the plan to make Tirupati, Vijayawada and Vizag cities into smart cities a year back there had been no progress, Naidu remarked.

He asked the consortium to complete the plan in 15 months and asked them to submit the preliminary report by December. The representatives from US Trade Development Agency also participated in the meeting.

To satisfy the people of state emotionally, Andhra Pradesh has been taking some symbolic steps like celebrating national festivals in districts and conducting cabinet meetings outside Hyderabad.

Now, the government is mulling over holding forthcoming Assembly session in Visakhapatnam.

” We are thinking of conducting the session in Visakhapatnam,” said finance and legislative affairs minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu to media in Secretariat.

A decsion in this regard, he added, would be taken after the arrival of chief minister from his Turkey holidy tomorrow.

If held , this would be second time the port-city hosting the Assembly, the fist being in 1953, in Andhra state. Interestingly, the second assembly is also being held in Andhra again, after losing Telangana areas as separate state.

When the Andhra stae was carved out of composte Madras state with Kurnool as the capital, on Octoger 1, 1953, the then chief minister Tanguturi Prakasam was very perticular about holding the session in Visakhapatnam. The first session was held in Summer in May 19545 in TLN Sabha hall at Andhra University.
To make the Hall, which was built in 1939, suitable to hold the Assembly, many changes were made. The speakers podium was built and space for treasurey bences was created on east side.
House Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy was the deputy leader and the opposition leaders was none other than his brother in law Tarimela Nagireddy. The ferocious argments that took place between Sanjeevareddy and Nagireddy are remembered till today as the greatest debate as Krishnarkjuna Yuddham.
But, In just six months after the session,Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu government fell on November 6, 1954 when dissindent group moved a ‘no-confidence motion’ against ‘ndhra Kesari’ abinet.

Andhra University No. 2 in India

0

Andhra University (AU) has been ranked 2 among State Universities and eight amongst all universities in India by India Today Group-Nielsen Survey.

The 86 year-old Andhra University has also bagged the eighth spot amongst all universities in India including State, Central and Deemed Universities.

Founded in 1926, when Andhra was in Madras presidency, the university had Sir CR Reddy as its founder Vice-chancellor. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan  succeeded him.

The India Today-Nielsen rankings methodology assigns 50% weightage to factual data, while the remaining 50% weightage is assigned to perceptual data.

Thus, even though AU was only second to Delhi University, the table-topper, in terms of factual data, it claimed the 8th spot due to a lower perceptual score. The strong performance in terms of factual data highlights the University’s quality in terms of faculty, academic inputs and research publications. However, plans are underway to improve AU’s perception.

Now, a project to “Reposition Andhra University (AU) among top 50 in the World” has been conceived and instituted by the Andhra Pradesh Economic Development Board, in partnership with the Higher Education Department.
