AP high court constitutes Central officials to check Rushikonda

0

The Andhra Pradesh high court on Thursday directed the state government to constitute a committee with the Central government officials for the inspection of the works on Rushikonda in Visakhapatnam.

The court had dismissed the five-member committee constituted by the state government which included three officials representing the State government.

The high court questioned the state government for having its own officials in the committee that was expected to inspect the excavation on Rushikonda.

The court asked the State government to give the names of the five officials of the Central government and ask them to submit their findings to the high court by January 31, 2023.

TDP MLA from Visakhapatnam Velagapudi Ramakrishna and Jana Sena leader Murthy Yadav have filed a case in the high court requesting the court to stop the excavation work on Rushikonda.

The court had earlier after the initial hearing directed the state government to constitute an expert committee to inspect the excavation works on the hill.

However, when the state government constituted a five-member committee with two officials from the Central government and three from the state government.

The petitioners have again challenged the committee in the high court and filed petitions. Accordingly, after hearing on Thursday, the court directed the State government to constitute the five-member committee with the Central government officials.

Will Jagan move to Visakha without naming it as capital?

1

As the Supreme Court is postponing the hearing of Amaravati-related cases and the issue is to be resolved in the apex court, sources say that Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is planning to shift his base to Visakhapatnam. However, he would not name it as capital, not even the executive capital, for the time being.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had been firmly saying that Visakhapatnam would be the capital of the state, while Amaravati would host the Assembly sessions and Kurnool would house the high court. He is firm on moving the executive to Visakhapatnam from the day one he was elected as chief minister in May 2019.

However, with some cases pending in both the Andhra Pradesh high court and now in the Supreme Court, the chief minister had delayed the shifting. In fact, he also withdrew the three capitals bills due to the court cases.

Now, the battle has reached the Supreme Court and there are 8 petitions which are related to the Amaravati as capital and 28 other petitions related to the bifurcation of the state. The Supreme Court, in all likelihood, might take some time to hear and clear all these petitions.

There is no mention of capital for the states in the constitution and the chief minister is free to function from any place, say some of the constitutional experts. Accordingly, without announcing Visakhapatnam as the capital, the chief minister might move to the port city any time and start functioning from there. No court would have the right to question the chief minister for this, the experts say.

There is a clear provision and procedure in the constitution for the location of the high court, which has to be recommended by the Supreme Court and finally declared by the President of India. However, there is no such provision in the constitution or any established procedure for the chief minister to locate his seat.

It is now to be seen how fast Jagan Mohan Reddy would make his move to shift the administration to Visakhapatnam city.

GVL says he would expose land grabbers in Visakha

2

BJP Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao said that he would continue to expose the land grabbers in Visakhapatnam city. He said he had already written letters to Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan on the land grabbing in Visakhapatnam.

GVL said that the TDP and the YSR Congress leaders have grabbed the government and private lands in Visakhapatnam over the years. He wanted to expose these land grabbers and hence wrote a letter to the Governor.

The BJP MP said that he would continue to expose these land grabbers and would not rest until everyone is exposed. He alleged that some TDP leaders in the past and the YSR Congress leaders now were looting the lands in this peaceful city.

Jana Sena leaders get bail in Visakha case

1

Nine members of the Jana Sena were released on bail on Saturday. With this all the 70 leaders of the party who were arrested by the Visakhapatnam police were released on bail.

The police have arrested the Jana Sena leaders following an attack on Ministers at the airport on October 15. The Jana Sena activists were waiting at the airport when the ministers reached the spot.

It was alleged that some Jana Sena activists have pelted stones at the ministers’ vehicles causing damage to them. The police booked cases against the Jana Sena leaders who had applied for permission for Jana Sena meeting on the day.

Besides them, the police also identified others using the CC camera footage. While the local court granted bail to 61 activists on the same day, nine leaders were sent to judicial remand.

However, the AP high court had granted them bail on Friday. As the jail officials received the court orders on Saturday, they released the Jana Sena leaders from the jail after completing the formalities.

The arrest of the Jana Sena leaders also reflected on the Jana Sena programmes planned in Visakhapatnam on October 16 and 17. However, following the arrest, Pawan Kalyan cancelled these programmes alleging that the government was harassing him and his party leaders.

He rushed back to Vijayawada after addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam, where he accused the ruling YSR Congress of political witch-hunt. He also addressed another press conference in Vijayawada.

On the next day, Pawan Kalyan addressed a meeting of the party workers where he went abusive and aggressive on the YSR Congress leaders.

Later, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu met Pawan Kalyan and called for a united action plan to counter the YSR Congress in the 2024 general elections.

Meanwhile, Pawan Kalyan welcomed the release of his party activists. He said he had faith in the judiciary and would continue to fight against the corrupt and criminal leaders of the ruling YSR Congress.

Pawan returns from Visakha, vows to free AP from YSRCP

1

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan had left Visakhapatnam on Monday evening without holding Janavani programme. He reached Vijayawada and proceeded to the party headquarters at Mangalagiri, where he addressed a press conference.

He blamed the YSR Congress government for arresting the Jana Sena leaders and activists in Visakhapatnam for no reason. He wondered how the ruling party held Garjana, when there were prohibitory orders in force.

He said his party was looking into the legal aspects of the incidents that happened in Visakhapatnam. He alleged that the ruling party leaders were using their criminal mind against the opposition parties. He also accused the YSR Congress of misusing the police force to target the opposition parties.

However, Pawan Kalyan said he would not run away from politics because of the criminals in politics. He said he had launched the political party to clean politics from criminals. “I don’t want to be ruled by a criminal. I don’t want the people of Andhra Pradesh to be ruled by a criminal,” Pawan Kalyan said.

The Jana Sena chief said that he would work hard for the 2024 general elections to clear the criminals from the state politics. He wanted to free Andhra Pradesh from the YSR Congress criminals. “My slogan for the 2024 elections would be to free the state from YSRCP criminals,” Pawan Kalyan asserted.

Stating that his party would fight the legal battle against the police cases, the Jana Sena chief reiterated that he would give a tough political fight to the ruling party. He claimed that he is getting ready to give sleepless nights to the YSR Congress leaders ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He made an appeal to the youth and the people of the state to understand the criminal politics of Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSR Congress leaders and drive them away from the state in the next elections. He said he would continue to campaign against the YSRCP criminals and create awareness among the people.

Vizag airport violence: 61 JSP men released on bail

0

A city court has granted bail to 61 leaders and workers of the Jana Sena Party (JSP) arrested for attack on ministers and others at Visakhapatnam Airport on October 15.

The police late on Sunday night produced 70 arrested men before the VIIth Metropolitan Magistrate. Of them, 61 were granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000 each.

The magistrate sent the remaining nine accused to judicial custody till October 28. However, section 307 (attempt to murder) booked against them was altered to 326 (Voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means).

A member of JSP’s legal team said the magistrate found fault with the way procedure was adopted by the police and replaced section 307 with 326.

The police had booked a total of 92 leaders and workers of the JSP in connection with the attack. Of them 70 were arrested.

The JSP led by actor-politician Pawan Kalyan alleged that the police kept shifting the arrested men from one police station to another on Saturday night and it was only on Sunday evening that the legal team came to know that they will be produced before the magistrate.

Convoys of tourism minister R.K. Roja and other leaders of the ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) were attacked by a mob at the airport on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when YSRCP leaders were returning from Visakhapatnam after attending ‘Visakha Garjana’ rally organised by the ruling party in support of three state capitals while Pawan Kalyan was arriving in the city to address JSP programme ‘Jana Vani’.

The city police booked two separate cases for the attacks on vehicles of YSRCP leaders as well as the police personnel. The cases were booked under various sections of the IPC on a complaint by M. Dilip Kumar, personal assistant to minister Roja.

The incident sparked tension in the area. Pawan Kalyan, who reached a hotel for a rally from the airport, was later barred from addressing any meeting and rally. The actor remained confined to the hotel on R.K. Beach while a large number of his party workers and fans gathered outside.

The JSP leader has condemned the high-handed behaviour of the police and demanded the immediate release of all JSP leaders and workers. He denied involvement of the JSP in the incident at the airport.

Pawan Kalyan slammed the YSRCP government headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy for what he called attempts to suppress voices of dissent. Terming YSRCP an epitome of criminalisation of politics, the actor said he was ready to face cases and even go to jail in his fight against criminalisation of politics.

TDP to launch Save Uttarandhra movement

0

The opposition TDP is planning to launch a new movement in Uttarandhra region to protect the properties of the people and the government allegedly by the ruling YSR Congress leaders. TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu told the party leaders to start the “Save Uttarandhra” movement exposing the land grabbing activities of the ruling party leaders.

He alleged that the YSR Congress leaders have scared the investors from Visakhapatnam. He said that the YSR Congress leaders were also scaring the people of the region by grabbing their properties.

Chandrababu Naidu held a video conference with the party leaders from Uttarandhra on Wednesday from the party office at Mangalagiri. He told the leaders that every section of the people have lost something or the other in the last three years due to the criminal activities of the ruling party leaders.

He also alleged that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was trying to create differences among the people by encouraging counter agitation to Amaravati farmers. The three capitals’ agitation is to create disturbance in the state, he alleged.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the courts have already told the government that Amaravati has to be developed as the capital city. He further said that three capitals is not practical and possible and wanted the chief minister to stop playing with the sentiments of the people.

Referring to the impending Graduate MLC elections in North Andhra region, Chandrababu Naidu wanted the rank and file of the party to work hard and wrest the seat. He wanted the party leaders to enrol graduates as voters and win the seat.

The TDP chief told the party leaders that he would recognise the leaders whoever works hard for the party and the people. “I have all the data about every leader,” the TDP chief told the party leaders and asked them to speed up the party work.

Dramatic twist to tale of woman who went missing at Vizag beach

0

In a dramatic twist, a married woman who was feared drowned at Visakhapatnam beach two days ago was reportedly found in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore on Wednesday, officials said.

Authorities had conducted a large-scale search by deploying even a helicopter of the Indian Navy after the 21-year-old woman went missing on RK Beach where she had gone with her husband on their second wedding anniversary.

According to officials, the administration spent about Rs 1 crore to search for the woman by deploying resources of the Navy and the Coast Guard. An official said several government departments had participated in the search operations.

While on the beach on Monday night, the woman’s husband received a call and he had moved aside while she was taking selfies on her mobile phone. After a few moments, he found no trace of his wife. He suspected that she was washed away in the sea with a tide and immediately alerted the police.

Authorities deployed speedboats and Navy helicopter the next morning as part of the search operation. However, all the efforts by the authorities were in vain as they found no trace of the missing woman. Doubts were being expressed whether she really drowned in the sea.

Meanwhile, police on Wednesday found the woman in Nellore with a man with whom she is said to be having an affair.

A resident of Visakhapatnam, she was married to a man from Srikakulam two years ago. On Monday, the second wedding anniversary, they went to Simhachalam temple and from there came to the beach, where the woman disappeared.

Yet another gas leakage in Vizag

0

There was yet another gas leakage in Visakhapatnam on Friday, causing panic among the employees and the residents of the area. The leakage of the ammonium nitrate in the Brandix SEZ at Atchuthapuram had left around 150 women employees unconscious.

The officials rushed to the factory to rescue the employees and bring the situation under control. The residents in the neighbouring area too were panic with the ammonium nitrate gas coming out in the air.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has enquired about the ammonia gas leakage incident at Brandix in Atchutapuram. He asked the officials about the details and directed them to provide better treatment to those who had fallen ill.

Further, the Chief Minister ordered a detailed investigation on the accident and asked the authorities to take measures for avoiding such incidents in future. Also, he directed the Minister for Industries Gudivada Amarnath to visit the accident site.

The officials informed that the situation has been stabilised where the women working at the unit have been evacuated and those who have fallen ill were out of danger. They stated that a probe on the ammonia leak has already been initiated.

TDP general secretary and former minister Nara Lokesh expressed shock and surprise over the accident. He asked the government to probe into the incident and fix responsibility. He held the chief minister responsible for the incident alleging that the corruption that Jagan Mohan Reddy was indulging in had led to negligence by the companies which resulted in the gas leak from the seed company in the Brandix SEZ.

The TDP former minister also demanded stern action against the management of the company and ensured that such incidents are not recurred.

Bandh in Visakhapatnam to oppose privatisation of Steel Plant

0

A shutdown is underway in this coastal city of Andhra Pradesh on Monday to protest the Centre’s move to privatise Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).

Employees of steel plant are participating in the strike on a call given by the committee spearheading the movement against privatisation.

Leaders of various trade unions staged a protest at the main gate of the plant. They claimed that all 25,000 employees of the plant are participating in the strike.

Visakhapatnam bandh is part of two-day nationwide strike, called for by a joint forum of central trade unions to protest against central government policies.

Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Committee (VUPPC) staged a protest rally at the main gate of the steel plant. They warned the Centre against going ahead with the privatisation plan. They vowed to continue the protest till the Central government takes back its decision to privatise the plant.

The leaders alleged that some central ministers were speaking out of their ignorance about the plant. They said the Modi government was working against workers and farmers.

The unions said except BJP all political parties were supporting the bandh. “Who gave the central government the right to sell the plant,” asked VUPPC chairman Narasinga Rao. He said the plant was formed after people’s sacrifice and they would never allow the Centre to sell it away.

As part of the bandh, activists of various Left parties and trade unions started protest demonstrations since early morning. Holding banners and flags, the protestors blocked roads at few places.

The protestors made it clear that their agitation will continue till the Centre repeals its decision on strategic sale of VSP.

VUPPC leaders said the Centre should not privatise VSP as it was achieved after several struggles.

The workers have been protesting since February 2021 after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs had given its approval for 100 per cent strategic sale/privatisation of the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) along with its joint ventures and subsidiaries.

RINL is the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant also known as Vizag Steel Plant.

In July, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) decided to hire legal and transaction advisors to prepare a road map for privatization.

What’s behind Nitin Gadkari chanting ‘Vizag … Vizag..”?

1

Vizag is the buzzword in AP these days. CM Jagan is inviting the biggies of the film industry to invest and set up studios in Vizag. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has repeatedly said the other day that Vizag has the potential to become an investment destination. He even said that Vizag can grow exponentially if the right strategy is devised. In fact, Jagan asked Nitin Gadkari to help in constructing the beach corridor and in building connectivity with Bhogapuram.
All these are indications that Vizag would soon become the administrative hub in AP. Meanwhile, there are reports that the officials have identified a house to set up the camp office for YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. Insiders say that Jagan could shift his camp office to Vizag by Ugadi or at the latest by Srirama Navami.
Legal experts say that Jagan will have no legal hassles if he shifts his camp office to Vizag. Legally, a CM can have his camp office anywhere in the state and hence, nothing bars Jagan from working from Vizag. So, Jagan is trying to use this provision to shift to Vizag. If sources are to be believed Rajya Sabha MP and Jagan confidant Vijaya Sai Reddy has already begun talking to industrialists, realtors and celebrities about Vizag becoming the governance hub.
Sources also say that with the YSRCP having a clear majority in the legislative council, ruling party will have no problem in getting the three-capitals bill passed. The work on reworking on the bill is in progress, according to sources. Thus, Vizag would soon become a beehive of activities in AP.

Jagan, ministers likely to shift to Vizag after Ugadi?

0

Remember what YS Jagan told the film industry biggies? He told them that Vizag has the potential to become the growth engine for the whole of Andhra Pradesh. He told them that everyone should chip in and help Vizag develop in Andhra Pradesh. If one observes this, one would realise the importance that Jagan is according to Vizag city.

In fact, he told the film industry representatives that if one makes an effort for ten to 15 years, Vizag would grow into a major city in the country. Will YS Jagan stay behind in Tadepalli when he himself is asking everyone to focus on Vizag? If sources are to be believed, he is all set to move lock, stock and barrel to Vizag any time after Ugadi.

Highly placed sources said that YS Jagan has decided on a particular muhurtam, which is being kept a secret. Meanwhile, Jagan is also planning to table the three-capitals bill in the assembly. This time, he wants to ensure that there are no legal loopholes. Once this is done, Jagan is all set to shift to Vizag. Many of his ministers are also likely to follow suit.

If sources are to be believed, the officials have already inspected three buildings that could be used as the camp offices of the chief minister. He would chose one of these three buildings. Several ministers are also planning to move to Vizag, according to sources.

The dried ganja was set afire at an event organised on a massive scale by the police Visakhapatnam district.

Director General of Police D. Gautam Sawang lit one of the heaps of seized ganja to formally launch the event that was organised in an open area at Koduru village in Anakapalli mandal.

Andhra Pradesh Police and Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) Visakhapatnam district conducted the event.

The authorities pitched fancy tents and deployed drone cameras, speakers, sound systems for the well-organised programme. Personnel from the Disaster Response Force and fire services department were deployed besides a large number of policemen.

Print and electronic media were also invited to cover the event.

This is said to be the largest quantity of drugs destroyed anywhere in the country in one go.

The ganja was seized during the last two years at various places in north Andhra districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam and also East Godavari.

According to police, the ganja was seized under operation Parivartan. The police registered 1,363 cases and arrested 1,500 accused including 562 from other states.

As part of the operation, the police also destroyed cannabis plants spread over 8,500 acres in the region during the last 15 months.

Jagan Visit brings Vizag to halt

0

The people of Vizag and adjoining areas had a torrid time on Wednesday due to the high profile visit of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to the Sarada Peetham. The traffic was brought to a grinding halt for an hour throwing the civic life out of gear. It took considerable time for the traffic to clear. The people were put to great hardships due to the traffic snarls in several parts of the city.

Normally, the traffic is stopped for about 10 to 15 minutes when VIIPs come. But, in case of Jagan, the traffic was halted for hours and the shops in the vicinity where Jagan visited remained shut. Jagan landed at 11.55 AM at Vizag airport and offered prayers at the Sarada peetham. Again at 2.30 PM, traffic restrictions began claiming that CM was going to the airport.

As a result, NAD junction and the nearby areas were closed. As a result, the vehicles coming from Gajuwaka, National Highway, Shila Nagar, Araku were stopped. There were huge traffic jams in Pendurthi Junction, NAD junction and Shila Nagar. Several air travellers were seen going to the airport on foot to board their planes.

Also, the shops and business establishments for about two km in the Pendurthi-Vepagunta area were closed from the morning till 4 pm. The whole area was heavily barricaded making it difficult for the cars to negotiate their way on the road. The police, who guarded the area till 4 pm, suddenly disappeared, throwing the vehicular traffic to find their own way. “This is the problem we faced in one day. What if Vizag becomes the capital? We may have to put up this almost every day,” quipped a road user.

Vizag East: Is TDP walking into YSRCP trap?

1

Is the TDP leadership scoring a self goal in Visakhapatnam East assembly constituency? Is it falling into the YSRCP trap? Is it playing into the hands of the YSRCP, which is using the BC card to confuse the TDP? Well! The political moves of the TDP bosses make it amply clear that the TDP is well on course to fall for the YSRCP bait.

Since its formation in 2009, Vizag East assembly constituency has been a TDP citadel. In 2009, liquor baron-turned-TDP leader Velagapudi Ramakrishna Babu braved Congress and Chiru’s Praja Rajyam Party to win by over 3000 votes. In 2014 too, he had won by a huge margin from the same constituency. In fact, his victory margin was the second highest in the state.

Even in 2019, he braved the Jagan tsunami and managed to win by a huge margin of 25000 votes. This showed his personal connect and popularity among the Vizag East voters. Thus, he earned the sobriquet of ‘Hattrick Hero.’ But, after that the TDP overall performance began to take a beating and the YSRCP had won the local body and GVMC elections.

Now, the YSRCP has begun playing the BC card and has begun saying that Velagapuri Ramakrishna Babu is an outsider for Vizag and that he comes from the Upper Castes. It gave MLC post to Vamsikrishna, a BC and the Vizag mayor too is a BC. The TDP too appears to have fallen into the BC trap and is said to be thinking of projecting a BC. Thus, it is actually falling into the YSRCP trap. Already, there is a talk within the TDP that Velagapudi could be denied the ticket. If that happens, the TDP would only play into the hands of the YSRCP, say analysts. Is someone in TDP listening?

Indian National Rally Championship to kick-start in Visakhapatnam next month

0

After a couple of postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian National Rally Championship 2021-22 season is all ready to set the engine revving from December 16-18 here.

The announcement was made by the Sports Minister of Andhra Pradesh Muttamseti Srinivas Rao in a function on Wednesday.

The event will be conducted by the Karnataka Motorsport Club and apart from Round 1, they have been given the responsibility to take care of the K100 Rally as well, which is Round 2 and will take place in Bengaluru in January.

“It is a matter of huge pride for me that I am able to take the sport to new places which has always been my vision. I have always wanted motorsport to reach every nook and corner of the country. I would like to thank the Government of Andhra Pradesh for their support and cooperation,” said Vamsi Merla, promoter of the INRC.

While the promoter wanted to go all out and have a full calendar, due to paucity of time and delays, this year there will be only four rounds, with the Round 3 happening in Coimbatore to be conducted by Coimbatore Auto Sports Club in February, MMSC has been awarded the right for organising the grand finale which will happen in March. The venue for the finale is yet to be decided.

Apart from the championship rounds, a contender round is also being planned for April in Hyderabad.

The championship this year is expected to break all records in terms of participation and would see the involvement of major stakeholders of Indian motorsports including JK Tyre, MRF and Yokohama.

YSRCP leaders eye Ramananaidu Studio lands in Vizag!

0

The ruling YSRCP leaders in Andhra Pradesh are exploring all the options to grab valuable lands in Vizag especially after AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy announced to make Vizag as executive capital of Andhra Pradesh last year.

YSRCP leaders are on a hunt to identify and grab valuable land parcels by wielding power.

Speculations are rife in Tollywood and political circles that YSRCP leaders are now bringing pressure on family members of star producer late D. Ramanaidu to handover their studio land in Vizag and offering them alternate land parcels in return.

The previous TDP government headed by then Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had allotted 34 acres to Ramanaidu Studios to set up film studio in Vizag as part of TDP government’s policy to promote Vizag as alternate destination for Tollywood, which is now confined only to Hyderabad.

Accordingly, Ramanaidu developed studio in 10 acres. The studio inaugurated in 2008. Ramanaidu kept balance 24 acres aside to meet future expansion plans and requirements.

The YSRCP leaders are now reportedly asking Ramanaidu family membrers to handover Studio lands and in return they will allot land in other location near Vizag.

But Ramanaidu’s family members reportedly refused to handover Studio lands saying that they want to take up expansion of studio in the existing location in memory of late Ramanaidu.

It remains to be seen how YSRCP government and Tolloywood circles react to this development.

School demolished as it illegally occupied Vizag civic body land: Official

1

Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) commissioner G. Srijana on Thursday said ‘Hidden Sprouts’, a school for specially-abled children, was demolished because it was an illegal occupant of the civic body’s open site.

“Actually it is an open site. As per Supreme Court’s guidelines, there should not be any construction on an open site,” Srijana told IANS.

According to the commissioner, Srinivas, who is running the school, produced a letter given to him by a commissioner in 2012 of which the GVMC has no official record.

“It was true that the school was running there. It is unauthorized. The structure is unauthorized. There is no record in our office as to that letter he was showing,” she said.

Srijana said no construction is allowed in an open site, complying with the Supreme Court’s orders and clarified that even if any kind of a construction was allowed, it can only be a park.

Srinivas made a representation to the civic body to extend the ‘lease’ but Srijana contended that ‘first there is no lease. Second, I cannot give a lease on an open site’.

She said that every layout must have a certain portion of land as an open site which should be open to the sky, bereft of construction.

“So it is one of those reserved sites. Now that he made a representation to us, seeking extension of that supposed lease, I need to reply to him officially. First there is no lease and I cannot now give a lease because it is an open site again,” the official asserted.

The civic body had served two notices to Srinivas to vacate the premises in MVP Colony, as schools were not operating due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Srijana said ‘Hidden Sprouts’ was not a residential school and it was the right time to free that space from this unauthorized occupation.

“Since there were no children and no running school there, we asked him to vacate the premises. Because we were not removing anybody from there. We were not closing down an actively running school,” she observed.

In addition to clearing the school, GVMC also offered an alternative space like a community hall or some other place to run it but Srijana said Srinivas got emotional and mobilized children to create a scene in the form of a protest.

Former chief minister and Andhra Pradesh’s principal opposition leader Nara Chandrababu Naidu condemned the demolition of the special school.

Former Indian cricket team’s chief selector and former cricketer M. S. K. Prasad had also appealed to Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and Member of Parliament V. Vijayasai Reddy to stop this move by the civic body.
