Amitabh Bachchan injured during film shoot in Hyderabad

Superstar Amitabh Bachchan was injured during the shooting of his upcoming film, ‘Project K’, in Hyderabad.

The actor shared his health update on his blog. After consulting a doctor and CT scan at AIG Hospital in Hyderabad, he left for Mumbai, where he is taking rest at his home.

The 80-year-old suffered a muscle tear to his right rib cage during an action sequence of the film. He wrote that after the incident the film shoot was postponed.

“In Hyderabad at the shoot for Project K, during an action shot, I have got injured .. rib cartilage popped broke and muscle tear to the right rib cage .. canceled shoot .. did Doctor consult and scan by CT at the AIG Hospital in Hyderabad and flown back home .. strapping has been done and rest been advocated .. yes painful .. on movement and breathing .. will take some weeks they say before some normalisation will occur .. some medication is on also for pain ..,” Amitabh wrote.

“So all work that was to be done has been suspended and canceled dropped postponed for the moment until healing occurs .. I rest at Jalsa and am mobile a bit for all the essential activities .. but yes in rest and generally lying around,” he wrote.

“It shall be difficult or let me say .. I shall be unable to meet, the well wishers at Jalsa Gate this evening .. so do not come .. and do inform as much as you can to those that intend coming .. All else is well..,” he added.

It was immediately not clear when Amitabh was injured.

‘Project K’ is science fiction film written and directed by Aswhini Dutt. Being shot simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi, it features Amitabh, Prabhas, Deepika Padukone and Disha Patani.

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth joined several stars from South in wishing Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan a very happy birthay as the Shahenshah of Bollywood turned 80 on Tuesday.

Taking to Twitter, Rajinikanth, who has been good friends with the Bollywood legend, wrote: “The legend… Someone who has inspired me always. The one true sensation and superhero of our glorious Indian film fraternity enters 80. Happy birthday my dearest and most respected Amitabh ji. With lots of love and best regards always.”

The picture is reported to be from the inaugural ceremony of the production house Vyjayanthi Movies’ new office in Hyderabad. Vyjayanthi Movies, which recently clocked 50 years in the business, is currently bankrolling ‘Project K’ starring Prabhas, Big B and Deepika Padukone.

Earlier, Prabhas had requested the makers of ‘Project K’ to push the shooting dates of the film following Deepika’s health scare.

The film, which is reportedly mounted on a budget of Rs 500 crore, is being simultaneously shot in Hindi and Telugu and is Deepika’s debut vehicle in Telugu cinema. The film is a science fiction and is directed by Nag Ashwin.

Telangana HC orders status quo in ‘Jhund’ case

The Telangana High Court has ordered status quo on a petition by Hyderabad-based filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar seeking a stay on the release of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer ‘Jhund’ on OTT platform and satellite broadcasting.

Justice P. Sree Sudha ordered the respondents to file counter on the petitioner’s application seeking temporary injunction.

The court posted the case for further hearing to June 8 and directed both the parties to maintain status till then.

Chinni Kumar told IANS that he filed the plea seeking orders to restrain the makers of the film and other respondents from broadcasting ‘Jhund’ through OTT platform and satellite broadcasting in any manner pending disposal of the review petition challenging the order of the trial court.

The trial court had last month dismissed Kumar’s plea to recall the compromised decree issued last year and stay the release of the movie citing violation of the settlement agreement by movie makers.

Since the trial court had reserved its orders and the movie was scheduled to be released on March 4, he approached the high court seeking orders to stop the release.

The high court not only dismissed his petition but slapped a cost of Rs 10 lakh for suppressing information pertaining to the case he had filed at a lower court on the same subject.

The court was told that a settlement agreement was already arrived between the makers of the movie and Kumar. As part of this, Kumar was paid Rs 5 crore.

Kumar filed a review petition, challenging the order by the division bench of the high court and the same is pending.

‘Jhund’ is a biographical sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO ‘Slum Soccer’.

“Under the settlement agreement, all the cases should have been withdrawn but a case filed by Akhilesh Paul in Nagpur court was not withdrawn,” Kumar had earlier told IANS.

Paul has challenged an agreement reached with Kumar in 2017 selling him exclusive rights to make a movie titled “Slum Soccer” on his life.

Vijay Barse, on whose life ‘Jhund’ is based, is the coach of Akhilesh Paul.

Kumar had approached a city court in 2020 alleging copyright violation by makers of ‘Jhund’.

He had submitted that though director Nagraj Manjule and producers bought rights to make a movie on the life of Vijay Barse, ‘Jhund’ also showcases Akhilesh Paul’s story in a major role, thus allegedly violating the copyright.

Kumar claimed he won the case in trial court, high court and also in the Supreme Court.

Though this finally led to settlement agreement, he said the movie makers failed to ensure withdrawal of all cases, thus mentally torturing him.

Kumar in his petition challenging the order of the trial court has made 13 individuals or companies as respondents and they include Amitabh Bacchan.

Telangana HC slaps Rs 10 lakh cost on filmmaker seeking stay on ‘Jhund’

The Telangana High Court on Friday slapped a cost of Rs 10 lakh on Hyderabad-based filmmaker Nandi Chinni Kumar who had filed a petition seeking stay on the release of the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer “Jhund”.

The court directed Kumar to pay the amount to the PM’s Covid-19 Relief Fund within a month. In the event of the petitioner failing to pay the amount, the District Collector would recover it under the Revenue Recovery Act within 30 days and remit it to the PM Fund.

The bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavili, which had already declined to stall the release of the movie, asked counsel for the petitioner as to why he suppressed information pertaining to the case he had filed at a lower court on the same subject.

The court was told that a settlement agreement was already arrived between the makers of the movie and Kumar. As part of this, Kumar was paid Rs 5 crore.

“Jhund”, a biographical sports film based on the life of Vijay Barse, the founder of NGO ‘Slum Soccer’, was released in theatres on Friday.

Meanwhile, Kumar’s counsel Ritesh Tomar told IANS that they will challenge the high court order in the Supreme Court.

After Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan announced on Monday (today) that he has terminated his contract with a pan masala brand “Kamala Pasand”, the focus has shifted back to Tollywood superstar Mahesh Babu who continues to promote tobacco brand “Pan Bahar” along with Bollywood top star Tiger Shroff.

Amitabh clearly stated that he terminated his contract to promote “Kamala Pasand” as it comes under ‘surrogate advertising’.

Similarly, Mahesh Babu’s “Pan Bahar Mouth Freshener” also comes under the surrogate advertising category.

Mahesh Babu resorting to surrogate advertising for the sake of earning few bucks has earned a lot of wrath from not just his fans but also crores of people who took a dig at Mahesh Babu on various social media platforms.

Despite all this, Mahesh Babu continues to promote the tobacco brand even today in utter disregard towards the health of people and his fans.

Not just Amitabh, even Hollywood superstar Pierce Brosnan who earlier promoted “Pan Bahar mouth freshner” prior to Mahesh Babu also terminated his contract after he realised that it comes under ‘surrogate advertising’.

When this advertisement created a furor that Brosnan was promoting tobacco, Brosnan was shocked saying that he was unaware that the company was promoting tobacco brand with his ad and he acted after he was told that it was a mouth freshner. Brosnan had expressed severe anger at the company for promoting tobacco (pan masala) with his advertisement, sued the company for cheating him, and distanced himself from the ad.

Amitabh terminated his contract following the request made by a national anti-tobacco organisation to withdraw himself from the campaign, which promoted pan masala, saying that it would stop the youth from getting addicted to tobacco.

Everyone is aware that Pan Bahar brand is commonly associated with pan masala and Gutkha, a potent mixture of tobacco, crushed betel nut, lime, and clove among other ingredients. It is chewed (and subsequently spat out in bright red streams) by millions of people, who become addicted and face risk of cancer and other health issues.

Advertising alcohol and tobacco brands, which was banned in India as per the Cable Television Network (Regulation) Amendment Act, came into effect on September 8, 2000. However, private TV channels often permit alcohol and tobacco companies to advertise using the proxy route through celebrities. It is common to see a famous sportsperson or movie star endorsing soda water, music compact discs and mouth fresheners that are brand extensions for companies that market alcohol, pan masala or tobacco by the same brand names. This is called surrogate advertising, since under section 5 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, all kinds of advertising of tobacco products, direct and indirect, are prohibited.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan on his 79th birthday on Monday announced that he has terminated his contract with a pan masala brand, saying that he wasn’t aware that it ‘falls under surrogate advertising’.

A statement issued on behalf of Amitabh read: “‘Kamala Pasand’… a few days after the commercial was aired , Mr Bachchan contacted the brand and stepped out of it last week.

“Upon checking why this sudden move – it was revealed that when Mr Bachchan became associated with the brand, he wasn’t aware that it falls under surrogate advertising.”

The statement from Amitabh’s office further read: “Mr Bachchan has terminated the contract with the Brand, has written to them his termination and has returned the money received for the promotion.”

The move comes after the megastar had been requested by a national anti-tobacco organisation to withdraw himself from the campaign, which promoted pan masala, saying that it would stop the youth from getting addicted to tobacco.

In September, Big B had replied to a social media user, who asked him why he chose to endorse the brand.

The cine icon had then replied: “If some people are getting benefits from an industry, we should not think as to ‘why am I getting associated with it?’ If it is an industry, then we too should think of it as our industry. Now, you may think that I should not be doing it, but I get paid for it.”

Amitabh Bachchan Takes Part In Green India Challenge. Lauds The Efforts of MP Joginipally Santosh Kumar

India’s Superstar and legendary actor Shri Amitabh Bachchan planted saplings along with Rajya Sabha MP and Founder of Green India Challenge, Shri Joginipally Santosh Kumar, at Ramoji Film city, here on July 27. The Padma Vibhushan awardee lauded the efforts of Green India Challenge in expanding the green cover across Telangana and the country.
Amitabh Bachchan enquired keenly about the Green India Challenge, on what inspired to take up this initiative, how plants are cared, tended even after years of plantation and expressed his happiness at the results. “I am surprised to know that GIC is able to plant 3 crore saplings recently on the occasion of Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development, Industries & Commerce, and Information Technology of Telangana, KTR’s birthday. It was certainly a mammoth task, and I am in awe of their dedication and commitment towards the environment,” he said.
The Superstar also congratulated GIC for entering into Guinness Book of World Records with a massive plantation of 2 crore seed balls within an hour. Talking to media he said, “I have always been aware of Green India Challenge but taking part in this is a great privilege. I wish very best to Shri Joginipally Santosh Kumar in taking this great work forward.”
Incidentally, July 27 is also the death anniversary of India’s greatest scientist and former President Shri APJ Abdul Kalam and on many occasions, Shri Joginipally Santosh Kumar mentioned how he inspired him to take up this challenge and do his bit for the environment.
Shri Amitabh Bachchan opined that a noble and great initiative like Green India Challenge requires great participation from across the world and said that he would challenge 3 more people to take part in the same from his twitter handle.
Telugu superstar Nagarjuna too took part in the programme and planted a sapling along with Producer Shri Ashwini Dutt, Ramoji Film City MD Vijayeeswari.

First Clap: Prabhas takes on Amitabh Bachchan

The 21st film of Prabhas got its official launch today with a pooja ceremony and it was followed by the shoot. Nag Ashwin is the director and the top actor clapped for the first shot which was canned on Big B Amitabh Bachchan. Prabhas shared the picture of the clap with a beautiful note that said “On this #GuruPurnima, it is an honor for me to Clap for the Guru of Indian cinema!… it now begins!! #ProjectK”. The untitled film is called as Project K for now. The first schedule will be shot completely with Amitabh Bachchan and it will last for a week.

Prabhas and the leading lady Deepika Padukone will join the sets at a later date. Nag Ashwin took two years to work on the script and the film is told to be made on a huge budget which is not disclosed. Vyjayanthi Movies are the producers and Mickey J Meyer is the music director. The film is aimed for 2023 release in all the Indian and selected international languages.
