Winning Council seat with 23 votes on March 23 in 2023 is God’s script, says Chandrababu

1

Winning the Legislative Council election with 23 votes on March 23, 2023 is nothing but God’s script and the Almighty has redrafted the script, remarked former chief minister and TDP president, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Friday.

The president of YSRCP Seva Dal, Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy, along with a large number of his followers joined the TDP in the presence of Chandrababu Naidu at the party headquarters.

Extending a warm welcome into the TDP to all those who joined the party on Friday, Chandrababu felt that the days of Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, are numbered as the people have no longer reposing faith in him.

“When a service-minded leader like Giridhar Reddy could not continue in the party, how can a common party activist continue in the YSRCP,” Chandrababu asked and felt that Jagan is a kind of person who always deceives those who trust him.

Recalling that the TDP emerged victorious even in the Graduates constituency polls too held recently for the Legislative Council, Chandrababu said that the party won the election even in the home constituency of Jagan. Now the slogan of ‘psycho should go and cycle should come back’ has been resounding across the State, he added.

Coming down heavily on Government advisor, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, for claiming in the recent polls held for the Graduates constituency that those educated did not vote for YSRCP, Chandrababu pointed out that now even his own party MLAs did not vote for the YSRCP candidate.

Jagan is totally upset with the result in the MLA quota MLC polls, the TDP supremo felt that those who are in power should act in a very dignified manner but not like Jagan who behaved most arrogantly.

Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy, who joined the TDP, predicted that the party will win all the 10 Assembly segments in Nellore. Stating that the State badly needs the leadership of Chandrababu, he said that he joined the TDP only after taking the advice of all his followers.

TDP-PDF tie-up in MLC polls is to avoid division of anti-incumbency votes, says Naidu

0

Former chief minister and TDP president, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Saturday made it clear that his party had an alliance with the PDF in the ongoing polls for the Teachers and the Graduates constituencies in the Legislative Council only to avoid division of anti-incumbency votes so that the outrageous YSRCP should not win the seats.

In an open letter to the voters in these elections, being held on Monday, Naidu felt that ever since the YSRCP came to power in the State, democracy has been continuously being subjected to virtual onslaught. As part of this attack, the ruling party, under the leadership of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, is resorting to turn the ongoing elections for the Graduates and Teachers constituencies in the Legislative Council as a farce, Naidu said in the open letter.

“I am writing this open letter to tell the public, particularly those who exercise their franchise in these polls, the developments that have become a serious threat to democracy,” the TDP supremo said. Observing that the TDP always believes that power means a prime responsibility and government means an opportunity to serve the public, Naidu said that the TDP always functioned keeping in view the needs of the people and the future of the youth.

“When TDP came to power in 2014, the TDP strived hard to get investments to the State facing several challenges and against heavy odds. We have created 10 lakh jobs both in public and private sector and also paid Rs 2,000 each as unemployment allowance to over 6 lakh youth thus standing by them,” Naidu recalled.

“We have experienced a large-scale irregularity by the YSRCP in the Local Bodies polls held two years ago. The candidates from the Opposition parties were not even allowed to file their nominations and that is how the ruling party misused its power,” he remarked.

“Thus, I want the people and the voters in these elections to act sensibly and with awareness to teach a fitting lesson to the YSRCP. We have witnessed how bogus votes were polled in Tirupati by poll and now the shameless YSRCP again wants to go in the same path,” Naidu said.

Naidu urges Modi-Jagan for lockdown to break Covid chain

TDP National President N. Chandrababu Naidu has stepped up his attack on both the AP and Central Governments in view of the rising virus cases. He stressed the need for their joint efforts to pool all available public resources and thereby to efficiently battle the deadly second wave.

Mr. Naidu urged PM Modi and CM Jagan for a total lockdown for a limited period of time in all States and the country in order to break the chain and rapid spread of the most dreaded mutants like N-440K. Vaccination to all those above 18 years of age should be given immediate priority. As per reports, even those below 18 years would be badly affected during a future 3rd wave.

The TDP chief said that they held an emergency politburo meeting in which their party discussed the Covid threat and made many suggestions. The Jaganmohan Reddy Government ordered just 13 lakh doses while all other States were procuring larger quantities to secure the safety of their people. Tamil Nadu has ordered for 1.5 crore doses while Karnataka and Kerala were procuring 1 crore doses. Maharashtra has decided to for universal vaccination for all its citizens.

Mr. Naidu asserted that the Centre and the State should first aim at protecting the lives of the people in this dangerous time when whole families together were succumbing to the virus. The Governments should go forward with positive thinking and respond immediately to the health calamity. America and England could ensure safety of the people’s lives by taking up a massive vaccination programme. Even Israel was now safe after having faced a severe crisis in the past.

KCR comments target both Jagan-Naidu regimes

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is making curious comments in his hurry to counter rising political criticism of his regime these days. The one effort KCR is making strongly is to make a comparison of the financial situations and land values in the two Telugu States. This is obviously to highlight how his Government has been contributing greatly for a robust development of ‘Bangaru Telangana’ that was his slogan.

However, KCR’s comment on the land values and debts turned sharp focus on both the Jagan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu regimes. The Telangana CM has been saying that Telangana land rates were once considered very low compared to those of Andhra. But the situation has turned upside down that with one acre of Telangana, one would be able to buy three to four acres in Andhra Pradesh nowadays.

KCR’s analysis was obviously aimed at how his party’s continuing rule in the past seven years has made a difference. However, the political analysts are having their own doubts about this. They point out that at one point of time, the land values in Hyderabad surroundings were badly hit following a steady rise in the fortunes and image of the Andhra Pradesh Capital, Amaravati. Doubtless to say, the rising crisis in AP Capital in the last two years has contributed to rising fortunes of land owners in Telangana Capital and its surroundings.

Whatever, critics say KCR’s comments have become embarrassing for both Jagan and Naidu even as AP people end up as silent listeners.

In Kuppam, democracy is defeated, says Naidu

2

The YCP has claimed to have shaken the foundation of Chandrababu Naidu’s support base in his own Kuppam assembly segment. Now, Mr. Naidu asserted that in this lawless election, it was democracy that was being defeated in Kuppam but not the Telugu Desam Party.

He slammed the ruling party for using huge ‘corruption money’ amassed from the sand and liquor mafia to buy votes at Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 per head. Crores of rupees were dumped in the Kuppam segment to get immoral victories there. The ruling party maniacs brought outsiders to defeat democracy. Kuppam was known for its credibility, peace-loving people and ethical values but now the YCP goondas have polluted the atmosphere.

Mr. Naidu asked why he should resign when the YCP leaders misused the police and threatened the candidates besides committing many violations to snatch unethical victories. The people have already started revolting against the implementation of the oppressive, faction-ridden Raja Reddy Constitution by Jagan Reddy. The TDP cadres would rally together to protect the benevolent, people-friendly Ambedkar Constitution in Andhra Pradesh.

He said that despite the YCP threats, the TDP and its allies have posted good results and got 41.41 percent seats in the 3rd phase panchayat polls. They have won over 1,093 panchayats as the final results poured in. The TDP has already won 38.74 percent seats in first phase and 39.52 percent seats in second phase.

Mr. Naidu ridiculed the Chief Minister’s comment on sale of 7,000 acres of the Visakha Steel Plant. He asked whether sale of the public property would be the solution for each and every problem. In that case, this CM would put up the entire Vizag City and the whole Andhra up for sale. If Jagan Reddy was really interested, he might as well take this Posco steel plant to his Idupulapaya area where he already had a cement factory. Ultimately, only this CM’s family should possess all the industries and the factories in the State and nobody else. Jagan Reddy was aiming at becoming the richest man in the country as a whole.

Naidu demands fresh poll in 3 assembly segments

0

Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has strongly criticised the State Election Commission (SEC) for ‘failing’ to prevent election offences, forced unanimous results and false police cases against the Opposition leaders in the ongoing panchayat elections. He demanded a fresh notification for conducting repolling in all the panchayats in the three assembly segments of Punganur, Thamballapalle and Macherla. Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and the YCP leaders committed massive violations in these segments to force an unprecedented number of unanimous results in sarpanch polls.

The TDP chief accused the SEC of failing to take required action though the ruling party leaders continued their offences and made a ‘mockery of the elections’. The TDP has written a number of letters from time to time bringing to the notice of the SEC about the YCP violations but there was no expected action.

Mr. Naidu said that the TDP has filed a petition in the High Court against the election offences being committed by the polling staff in connivance with the ruling party. Some returning officers wrongly declared the panchayats as won by the YCP while actually the TDP supported candidates got majority votes. All such officers would have to stand before the courts and face punishment. If needed, the TDP would take this fight to the Supreme Court as well. It was a black spot for democracy that the nomination papers of rival candidates were torn. The SEC, who should have stood like an unbiased referee, failed to act properly. The Governor was also watching the show silently without trying to save the democratic process of the election.

Mr. Naidu said that Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was the main conspirator in the privatisation of the Vizag Steel Plant. It was the CM who has done brokerage in the whole deal with the Posco company of South Korea. The memorandum of understanding was signed with Posco only after Mr. Jagan Reddy became the CM. The YCP had love only for the assets and companies in Visakhapatnam but not the welfare of its peace-loving citizens. Maybe, the Chief Minister was taking his revenge against the port city for defeating his mother in the elections in the past.

Peddireddy demands Ramesh to act against Naidu

1

The panchayat elections are being held on a ‘partyless’ basis. This means there should be no political interference or participation. But Chandrababu Naidu released his party manifesto for the elections. Quickly seizing this opportunity, YCP Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy demanded State Election Commissioner N. Ramesh Kumar to take action against Naidu if he was really unbiased.
The YCP has been accusing Ramesh Kumar of being an agent of Chandrababu for a long time now. The TDP manifesto came as a big chance for it to attack the SEC once again.
The TDP manifesto was named ‘Palle Pragathi – Pancha Sutralu’ (Five Plans for Village Growth). After releasing this, Naidu gave a call for all the panchayats to elect his party-supported candidates for achieving better and cleaner villages.
Naidu argued that the elections might be partyless but the political influence would be there in every aspect of life. The panchayat elections were actually indirect in nature and the candidates would be getting support from one party or another.
The TDP’s five plans for village future development would focus on protected drinking water, safety assurance, model villages, self-sufficiency and citizen services with reduction in property tax. Each of the 15,000 panchayats would get Rs. 70 lakh to Rs. 80 lakh funds under the NREGS scheme directly from the Centre. Also, Finance Commission funds were also being directly given to the villages.
Naidu talked as if the villages could function better with their self-government without the need for the State Government funds. Expectedly, Peddireddy reacted sharply to this.

YCP frustrated: Vijay Sai utters unutterable words on Naidu

1

The game on the AP panchayat election turned uglier after SEC Ramesh Kumar issued the poll notification. From the Ministers to the Speaker to the employees’ leaders, everybody targetted the SEC and Chandrababu Naidu. But, MP Vijay Sai Reddy stood apart from all the rest with his unique style of using unparalleled abusive and offensive language.

Today, Vijay Sai increased his dose some more and uttered unutterable words against Naidu. He went to the extent of using ‘spitting’ and ‘disrobing’ in his rush to attract readers’ attention to his words. The MP said without hesitation that Naidu was still playing games even though the people had ‘disrobed’ his party naked in the last election.

Meanwhile, SEC Ramesh Kumar further irritated the ruling party by writing an open letter to the DGP. The SEC sought action against Government Employees Association leader Venkatarami Reddy for threatening to kill him. Venkatarami Reddy has threatened to cause life threat to those who signed the orders to conduct the polls.

The SEC had told the DGP to put a close surveillance on Venkatarami Reddy considering his threatening statements.

Andhra Pradesh polity on throes of communalisation

1

Going by the kind of statements and political speeches prominent leaders were giving in Andhra Pradesh, one has to sit up and take notice if the state is slowly going through a transition from a stellar secular polity into an unnecessary communal one.

As a prominent state from the southern part of India, Andhra Pradesh is renowned for its communal harmony and peace which suddenly seems to be threatened by a flood of alleged temple attacks and subsequent inflammatory communal speeches.

In a recent speech, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president Nara Chandrababu Naidu openly invoked religion and a couple of religious places in his attack against Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

“You are a Christian Chief Minister, no problem. I am not saying it is wrong. I am a born Hindu, Venkateshwara Swamy is my favourite God. Your favourite is Lord Jesus. When you win, you go to Jerusalem, when I win, I visit Venkateshwara Swamy. You keep a Bible, okay no problem…,” said Naidu warning that Reddy has no right to be a CM when temples are being attacked.

As the principal opposition leader in the state, with a chequered political career running into four decades, as Chief Minister for 14 long years and staying in the opposition for more than 10 years, religion rarely featured in Naidu’s speeches.

Not just Naidu, most other leaders until before the Reddy-led Yuvajan Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) came to power in May 2019, never cared to invoke religion.

Adding fuel to this unwelcome communal tension, the ruling party’s own man, Kanumuru Raghu Ramakrishna Raju, Narasapuram MP, incessantly alludes to religion, caste and reservations even at the slightest opportunity.

Recently, the Christian minority institutions-educated Raju called for the removal of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) head P. V. Sunil Kumar from Ramateertham investigation because he belonged to a particular faith.

Likewise, the Bible party and Bhagvad Gita party instigations from non-local Karimnagar MP and Telangana Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Bandi Sanjay is not surprising as BJP has a lifelong dream of capturing power in the Telugu states.

The BJP also openly flaunts its ideology for politics sake, however, it is not yet a major political force in the state.

Not only political parties, even a few community associations also started taking God’s name to send out a political message.

Following Ramateertham idol decapitation by unidentified miscreants, Andhra Pradesh Endowments Minister Vellampalli Srinivas derogatorily referred to former Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju, who happens to be a caretaker of Ramateertham.

Srinivas attracted the wrath of Raju’s community members at several places in the state as well as Hyderabad. At the Usha Mullapudi hospital arch, a group of Kshatriya youth agitated and burnt the minister’s effigy.

In addition to the agitation, they also chanted some religious slogans, which generally was not the case earlier with demonstrations, indicating a change in the nature of political protests.

Worried at the unfolding events in the aftermath of these alleged temple attacks, which mostly occurred during night time, the state government on Friday convened a meeting with top clerics of three major religions to transmit a peace message.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) chief priest Venugopala Dikshitulu, Shamiria Peetam’s Ahmed Sheikh Bin Shabeen and Andhra Evangelical Lutheran Church’s (AELC) moderator Elijah met with ministers Botsa Satyanarayana, Mekhatoti Sucharita and others to send a message of unity and universal brotherhood.

“All religions in the state should practice their religious beliefs and respect other religions without causing any disturbance,” said Dikshitulu.

Explaining the nature of politics in the state, Rapaka Kiran, a resident of East Godavari district near Antarvedi, where the decades old chariot of Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy temple was burnt in September, said, “There is casteism but not communalism.”

However, Deekshith Chowdoju, a history coach for UPSC aspirants and founder of Civil Vidyapeeth in Hyderabad is saddened at the turn of events in AP. He said the state never witnessed politicians openly invoking religion to gain political dividends.

“What a struggle the Telugu talli (mother, Telugu society) is facing now. It never had the problem of communalism, there is no reference point in the history also,” said Chowdoju.

A couple of days ago, Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das reminded the world that the southern state is famous for its communal harmony.

“The state of Andhra Pradesh has always been famed for its communal peace and harmony. One would look back at the state’s tranquility with humility and pride…People of all castes and religions have been in peaceful coexistence since ages and have adopted a progressive attitude in the state of Andhra Pradesh,” said Das.

Another example of the state’s peaceful nature emerged, when some outsiders came from far off places, including Hyderabad to Antarvedi in the aftermath of the chariot issue and attacked a local church, however, youth associated with the temple released a video message condemning the church attack.

Incidentally, this kind of alleged temple attacks and communal politics did not take place even during former CM Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy tenure, though some people made allegations.

What could have caused Naidu to embrace religion for politics? Is Naidu worried if the BJP will eat into TDP’s vote share and thus compelling him to take the same strategy adopted by the former?

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Police Officers’ Association, Amaravati (APPOA) released a statement saying that the police department is unnecessarily being dragged into religious politics.

“Khaki is our religion, service is our caste…Indian Constitution and laws are Bhagvad Gita, Quran and Bible for us,” said an official.

The police officers association has also pointed out that a politician from a different state was making religious comments on the department, while questioning the leader who brags about 40 years political experience if it is correct to view police from the lens of religion and caste.

They highlighted that Muslim and Christian officers actively participate in the department’s Ayudhapuja ceremonies for Dasara festival.

“Last year, in the battle against coronavirus, 109 policemen died and 1,400 more contracted the infection, all of whom were people from all religions,” added the statement.

Ambati demands Naidu to break silence on Akhila Priya

4

The TDP raised a hue and cry when former Minister and AP TDP President K. Atchannaidu was arrested in the ESI scam case. Atchannaidu was kept in jail for many days till he could finally get bail. Now, the YCP is asking why the TDP is keeping silent on the arrest of Akhila Priya in Hyderabad.
YCP MLA Ambati Rambabu demanded Chandrababu Naidu to break his silence on the Akhila Priya arrest. Why had the TDP chief lost his voice? He said that the TDP chief had called Atchannaidu when the latter was arrested in the corruption scam. Naidu also went to the Guntur General Hospital to visit him. But now, Naidu was not calling on Akhila Priya.
The YCP MLA accused Naidu of following double standards. The TDP chief had tried to take political mileage out of Atchannaidu’s arrest since it took place in Andhra Pradesh. But, he was afraid of raising his voice in respect of the arrest of Akhila Priya since it happened in Telangana.
Ambati has said that the TDP chief is afraid of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao. It was just because of the Vote for Note case. The YCP leaders are launching an all out attack on Naidu who is undoubtedly not in a position to defend Akhila Priya in the latest kidnapping case.

Naidu, Pawn attack Jagan on Sneha Latha murder

1

The latest Sneha Latha harassment and murder case is creating lot of embarrassment for the YCP. Both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan have launched a scathing attack on the Government’s negligence and the ineffectiveness of the Disha Act to stop atrocities.
Mr. Naidu described the burning alive of Sneha Latha as a ghastly incident that was more horrific than even the Nirbhaya and Disha tragic atrocities in the country. He demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring out the facts and to nab the culprits responsible for the girl’s murder. Over 400 horrific attacks were committed on women, girls and even minor girls in the State and the CBI should conduct a comprehensive probe into all these incidents.
Whereas, Pawan Kalyan asked CM Jagan whether laws that were made for publicity propaganda would ensure safety of women. The failure of systems was responsible for Sneha Latha’s murder. Pawan pointed out that that ‘purification with milk’ was done immediately after framing the Disha Act but there was no implementation in the ground level. The Jagan regime should ensure justice to the family of the victimised Sneha Latha.
The Dalit girl’s murder triggered massive heartburn among the people. The ruling YCP faced even allegations of launching attacks on the JC house in Tadipatri only to divert the attention of the public from the Sneha Latha murder.

Ongole disabled girl burnt to death: Naidu demands call lists

1

Former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed deep shock over the ghastly incident in Ongole in which disabled girl named Bhubaneswari was burnt to death under suspicious circumstances. He demanded a high level probe to find out whether the helpless ward volunteer was murdered or raped and then murdered. Suspicions were rising as post mortem was not conducted till Saturday evening though she was burnt alive at 8.30 p.m. on Friday itself.
The TDP chief demanded the Government to explain why there was a delay of over 20 hours in conducting post mortem. The parents had to wait for 20 hours at the hospital to receive the girl’s body. A detailed probe should be held and stringent punishment should be given to those responsible for the brutal death. Till now, there was no safety to the lives and respect of Dalits, Tribals, BCs and Muslim Minorities but now on, even the disabled girls and women were falling victims. All corners of the State were witnessing suspicious deaths, murders, rape and murder cases and such atrocities. The ghastly incidents were only on the rise in the past 19 months of the Jagan Reddy regime.
The TDP chief said that Om Pratap’s death was suspicious but the Government did not disclose his call list despite demand from the Opposition leaders. Dalit youth Domathoti Vikram was brutally murdered in Gurazala in Guntur district. Even his call list was not revealed to the public. Now, Bhubaneswari was burnt alive in Ongole in Prakasam district. The investigating officials should disclose her call list at least in order to bring out the facts.
Mr. Chandrababu Naid said that if such atrocities were dealt with a firm hand in the beginning itself, they would not have repeated like this again and again. The law and order would not have deteriorated to such an extent. It was a sheer failure on the part of the Government for not gathering evidence to catch the culprits. The YCP regime’s negligence was posing a severe threat to the lives of people all over the State.

Kodali’s reverse attack on TDP rout in GHMC polls

1

Strange are the ways of the Andhra parties in Hyderabad. The TDP contested the GHMC polls. The Jana Sena fielded candidates but withdrew them to help the BJP. The YCP didn’t contest at all but it was greatly overjoyed and in a celebratory mood over the TDP debacle.
As expected, YCP Minister Kodali Nani came forward and launched a bitter attack on Chandrababu Naidu on the issue of the GHMC polls. He said that all the 106 candidates fielded by the TDP lost deposits. The TDP doesn’t deserve to be called a national party any longer.
Nani further said that Chandrababu has destroyed the TDP over which its founder NTR’s soul would feel great pain. Going by how the TDP fortnues were getting spoilt, it would not get the Opposition status in the next AP elections. Naidu would not become even the Opposition Leader. Naidu has turned the TDP into an ineffective party with no identity. It wouldn’t be possible for Naidu to face a people’s leader like Jaganmohan Reddy.
On their part, the TDP leaders support Naidu’s decision, saying that it is better to have contested and lost than never to have contested at all.

Naidu demands CBI probe into joint suicide of Abdul Salaam’s family

3

TDP national president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday squarely blamed the YSRCP government’s continued harassment for the deaths of a family of four in Nandyal in Kurnool district and demanded that the investigation into the Salaam family suicide be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to bring the facts of the case.

The TDP leader demanded that a special court be set up to deal with the suicide case. He also demanded that the police personnel responsible for the joint family suicide should be dismissed from service. He called upon the TDP leaders and party workers to hold protest rallies and candle demonstrations all over the state for the next three days all over the state.

Naidu accused the Andhra Pradesh police of foisting a false case of robbery against Abdul Salaam based on a false complaint. “The continuous persecution and harassment in the name of a false robbery case led to the suicide of Abdul Salaam, his wife and two children. Suicide was the last resort for Salaam and his family as they could not bear the harassment and police torture. The suicide of Abdul Salaam and his family members is a reflection of the peak to which the YSRCP atrocities have reached in the state,” Naidu said.

Naidu said that the YSRCP government’s persecution of the Muslims in the state was evident from the suicide of Abdul Salaam and his family, Abdul Sattar family in Bommuru, and the molestation of a minor Muslim girl in Rajahmundry.
Naidu also recalled how a 10-year-old Muslim minority girl faced a molestation attempt at Bommuru.

“When the family members of the hapless 10-year-old girl tried to lodge a police complaint, they were threatened to withdraw the case. The police did not stop there. The police went a step further by slapping SC and ST atrocities case against the family members of the 10-year-old Muslim girl. Obscene videos of her mother were taken to harass the family,” he said.

Further, Naidu went on to list the police excesses and growing crime in the state under the YSRCP regime. In the last more than one year rule of Jagan, Andhra Pradesh has witnessed a growing incidents of joint family suicides, gang rapes, murders, tonsures and suicide and molestation attempts.

He said a volunteer ended his life unable to bear the harassment of YSRCP MLA in East Godavari. A Dalit youth in Punganur was forced to commit suicide after he uploaded a video on social media about the ill-effects of the cheap liquor brands that were being sold in the government liquor shops, he said. Naidu also recalled how an Anganwadi worker was subjected to humiliation in Kadapa and the heinous gangrape of a 17-year-old minor girl in Rajahmundry.

CSU president Wayne Watson, who wrote a letter to chief minister Chandrababu Naidu yesterday requesting him to accept the honorary doctorate, oversaw the signing of MoU between the CSU and JNTU-K. Even a joint degree from CSU and JNTU-K and JNTU-Anantapur is also on the cards. JNTU-A signed MoU with CSU in January this year.

In mid September, 2014 , endowments minister Manikyala Rao also visited the university and he was received by university Provost Ms Angelo Anderson. Prof Potluri Deviprasad from CSU, Chicago Telugu Association representatives Murthy Koppaka, Boppana Srinivas, Varaprasad, Kota Prasanna accompanied the minister. Manikyala Rao’s trip to the CSU was coordinated by Dr Rao Achanta, a part-time Professor at the university.

All these people reportedly helped CSU discover Naidu as the man with vision to be honored with Doctor of Humane Letters. But, the timing of CSU letter to the chief minister to accept the award looks inappropriate. Given Naidu’s political predicament now due to many issues, it is certain that doubts are engendered about the genuineness of sentiments expressed in the letter written by CSU president Wayne Watson.

On Friday, in Assembly premises, Telugu Desam party used the letter written by CSU to promote Naidu as the leader of global caliber, Opposition YSR party leader K Roja wondered if the standards of the American university were so low.
