Major Review : Emotional Tribute to Major Unnikrishnan

Major Movie Review`

Telugu360 Rating: 3/5

After delivering a series of hit films like Kshanam, Goodachari and Evaru, Adivi Sesh is betting big with Major, a patriotic attempt that is based on the life story of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. Sashikiran Tikka directed the film and it had Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Murali Sharma, Revathi, Shobita Dhulipala in other important roles. Sony Pictures India in association with GMB Entertainment and A Plus Movies produced Major and the film is heading for a wide release today. Here is the complete review of Major:

Story
:
Adivi Sesh wanted to narrate the life story of Sandeep Unnikrishnan to the nation. 26/11 Mumbai attacks will stand as one of the deadliest attacks that happened to India. A group of NSG Commandos risked their lives and saved several innocent Indians in the operation. 31-year-old Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan got martyred in the attack. Sandeep (Adivi Sesh) aspires to serve the country. He shares a close bonding with his father (Prakash Raj) and mother (Revathi). They are against his thoughts of joining the Army or Navy.

Sandeep falls in love with Isha (Saiee Manjrekar) and the duo gets married. Sandeep loves to serve the nation instead of spending time with his family. Sandeep emerges as the top Training Officer for NSG Commandos. He trains 51 NSG team which will be asked to handle the Mumbai terror attacks. Sandeep as a Training Officer will not be allowed to participate in the mission as per the protocol but he joins the team. The rest of Major is all about the battle with the terrorists and how Sandeep saves several lives in Taj Mahal Hotel, Mumbai.

Analysis:

Major is not only about the deadly terror attacks in Mumbai but it also narrates about the story of a brave patriot who always desired to save the country. Sandeep Unnikrishnan had his own family and life before he joined the Indian Army. The film presented his childhood days, his love story and about his interests and how he thrived to help others by standing by their side. The first half narrated the story of Sandeep Unnikrishnan and the second half was focused on the deadly 26/11 attacks. The struggle of Sandeep when he was asked about the real meaning of Soldier was well presented. The Mumbai attacks episode starts right before the interval. The first half of Major is decent and is well loaded with emotions, love story and patriotism.

The second half is all about how Sandeep and his team handles the terrorists and saved the lives of the innocents. Director Sashikiran Tikka handled the film in his own style and kept the audience engaging. The last 20 minutes of the film is the major highlight of Major. The way Sandeep kills the terrorists without the support of his team and how he gets martyred is presented well. The film ends with the speech of Prakash Raj and the episode is quite emotional. The second half of Major is thoroughly impressive.

Major is a film that is made with enough conviction without getting deviated to the major plot. The achievements of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan are narrated to the world. The emotional family drama will impress the audience. Major gets a strong backing from the technical team. The cinematography and the sound design are the major highlights of the film. The action episodes are well presented. Without preachy episodes, the director narrated the film on a simple and emotional note.

Adivi Sesh fits well in the role of Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his hard work is visible on screen. He excelled in the emotional scenes. Prakash Raj and Revathi get prominent roles and they delivered their best. Saiee Manjrekar looked simple and decent in the role of Isha and she did her best. Shobita had a small role and she did her part well. Murali Sharma is impressive in his assignment. All the other actors did justice for their roles.

Verdict :

Major is a technically well made film which pays tribute to Major Unnikrishnan. The emotional component of the film, especially the climax, works. Adivi Sesh and director Sashikanth deliver an appreciable film.

‘Major’ is not agenda-driven movie: Director Sashi Kiran Tikka

0

The film ‘Major,’ which stars Adivi Sesh and tells the story of 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, will be released on June 3. Director Sashi Kiran Tikka explained that ‘Major’ is a story told from the perspective of Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s parents and that the film has no agenda and is made for the audience to savor the emotions alone.

“‘Major’ isn’t some random agenda-driven movie,” Sashi Kiran Tikka said. “It’s a natural story that allows the audience to soak in the emotions. While listening to the script, some of the actors and teammates began to cry.”

“Prakash Raj and Revathi both broke down in tears. At times, I too became emotional. The performance of Revathi ma’am will make you cry,” he conveyed.

“During the attacks, 15 police officers and two NSG commandos were killed, including Sandeep Unnikrishnan. I hope that one day, their stories will be told in the same way that Sandeep’s has been told.”

The director claims that the screening of ‘Major’ for Sandeep’s parents was a moving experience, as they were contacted by the team for the simplest of the details related to the martyr. “They’d describe how their son used to react in a particular situation. Taking their feedback was like a litmus test for us. The story is the parents’ point of view,” said Sashi Kiran Tikka.

The director talked about small-big cinematic liberties, he tried to take advantage of, for ‘Major’.

“The majority of ‘Major’ was shot on location. Simultaneously, we had to be as genuine as possible. To be sure, some cinematic liberties were taken.

“The action sequences were created with the goal of being as commercial as possible. If the reactions of the audiences at the premieres are any indication, the decision was well worth it.

“‘Major’ has been seen by Mahesh Babu sir (one of the producers). After watching the show, he was speechless for five minutes. We were unsure whether he enjoyed the film or not! He later came up to us, hugged me, and expressed his happiness as he showered appreciation,” said Sashi Kiran Tikka.

0

Actress Sobhita Dhulipala, who appeared in ‘Made In Heaven – Season 1’, has an exciting lineup. 2022 is clearly an interesting year for Sobhita as she has several fascinating projects including ‘Major’.

Sobhita Dhulipala says, “This week is indeed very special for me, not only because it is my birthday week, but also because I have the release of ‘Major’ on June 3. Simultaneously, I am prepping for two exciting projects that I can’t talk about yet.

“While dubbing for Mani Ratnam Sir’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ in Hyderabad, I thought I’d share this with you. I’m overjoyed that such wonderful opportunities are coming my way; in fact, due to my numerous upcoming releases, this year will be a pivotal year for me,” the ‘Goodachari’ girl stated.

Sobhita stated that she agreed to be a part of the project as soon as she was approached.

Acid test ahead for F3

1

F3 is the sequel for F2 and the film released on Friday. The family crowds and the general audience loved the film and they rushed to theatres in large numbers. F3 made decent money over the weekend and it ran with packed houses in Telugu states. Dil Raju, the film’s producer holds the theatrical rights of the film for Nizam, Vizag and Krishna districts. He sold the theatrical rights of the film of other regions for huge prices. F3 has to fare exceptionally well during the weekdays to recover the complete investment of the film.

With summer holidays in the Telugu states for the next two weeks, F3 will have a decent run for sure. But there are ample films releasing in the next two weeks. Films like Major, Ante Sundaraniki, Vikram and 777 Charlie will hit the screens in the next two weeks. F3 will be a profitable film for Dil Raju but the film should have a rock solid theatrical run in the next two weeks to leave the buyers and other parties in decent profits. This comic entertainer is directed by Anil Ravipudi and has Venkatesh, Tamannaah, Varun Tej and Mehreen in the lead roles.

Makers of ‘Major’ follow ‘F3’ example and decide against ticket price hike

1

The makers of the Adivi Sesh-starrer ‘Major’, which is set to be released on June 3 amid high expectations, have decided to go with the standard ticket prices in multiplexes and other theatres, similar to Anil Ravipudi’s ‘F3’.

The producers have stated that ticket prices will be extremely low and accessible to people from all over the country, as the true purpose of the film is to honour 26/11 martyr Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan.

The filmmakers, along with actor Adivi Sesh, who plays the 26/11 hero in the movie, believe that everyone should see this film as a tribute to our brave soldiers as a matter of national pride and honour.

Major Is The Most Difficult Film In My Career: Sobhitha

1

Sobhitha Dhulipalla, the Telugu girl plays an important role in Adivi Sesh’s Major which releases on June 3rd. She plays Pramoda, one of the hostages at Taj hotel when the terrorists take over. The actress interacted with media about the film and her role in the movie.

“Sesh was so obsessed with Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He would talk very much about him during the shoot of Goodachari. But I did not know I would get to act. It is the most difficult and emotional role in my career. I got to portray all kinds of emotions in the film,” the actress said.

“Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s 31 years life and 36 years of the hostage situation will happen simultaneously. It is a very intense story. There are no cinematic liberties in the movie. In fact, there are many such situations in his life and we had to avoid them as we feared the actual story may become less serious,” she revealed.

She also outlined the difference between Major and many films on 26/11. “Major is not just about 26/11. It celebrates the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. It will be very different from what we have watched previously,” Sobhitha adds.

0

‘Major’ actor Adivi Sesh spoke about spending time with Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s family during the course of making of the film, which is based on the brave martyr who foiled the plans of terrorists by holding the fort during the 26/11 attacks of Mumbai.

Speaking at the song launch of ‘Oh Isha’ from ‘Major’, the actor told the media, “We persuaded uncle and amma (Major Sandeep’s parents) endlessly to meet us just once. Eventually, he agreed to meet us.”

Sesh, who has also written the film, continued, “When I met him, he told me that a lot of filmmakers from Bollywood or even Malayalam cinema have tried to approach him but he declined every time because all of them gave away that impression that they were doing us a favour. This he felt was a genuine effort from our side to portray his son’s story.”

“During the course of filming, uncle and amma became a family. ‘Main off screen Major toh nahi ban sakta par I can try to become their second son (I may not become a Major off screen but I can surely become their second son’,” the actor added.

“We have dubbed the film in Malayalam as well, out of respect for the great man as he was from Kerala. There were no commercial considerations with regards to this decision,” he concluded.
