Bunny rejects a massive deal for Pushpa: The Rule

Stylish Star Allu Arjun is completely focused on Pushpa: The Rule and he is not in a hurry to commence the shoot. Sukumar is giving the final touches to the script and the pre-production too reached the final stages. The shoot is expected to start in the mid of August and the film will release next year. The makers received a massive non-theatrical deal and the asking price was more than Rs 100 crores. Allu Arjun straightaway rejected the deal and he asked the makers not to lock any early deals.

Mythri Movie Makers closed all the non-theatrical deals of Pushpa: The Rise in advance and they would have pocketed more if the deals are closed right before the release. Bunny is not in a mood to close any deal for now. There are also talks that Bunny and his father Allu Aravind will involve in the film’s business as Mythri could not handle the business of the first installment well. There was an issue with the Hindi rights of the first part and Goldmine Telefilms was made as a partner in the Hindi theatrical version. To avoid such deals, Allu Arjun is personally taking care of all the deals.

Rashmika Mandanna, Anasuya, Fahadh Faasil and Sunil will reprise their roles in Pushpa: The Rule. Devi Sri Prasad scores the music and Mythri Movie Makers are the producers.

Manoj Bajpayee approached for police officer’s part in ‘Pushpa: The Rule’

0

Bollywood actor Manoj Bajpyeee, who is known for his work in films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Satya’, ‘Aligarh’, had recently praised the pan-India Allu Arjun-starrer film ‘Pushpa’, calling it immaculate.

According to several media reports, the actor now has been approached for a role in the film’s second part. Manoj had earlier said that every frame in ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ has been shot as if it’s a matter of life and death.

The film, written and directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers and Muttamsetty Media, told the story of its titular character Pushparaj of his rise to become a sandalwood smuggler and his personal trauma.

The Telugu action drama marked the debut of the noted Malayalam and Tamil actor, Fahadh Faasil in Telugu cinema. He played the character of a corrupt cop, who will lock horns with Allu’s lead character in the film’s second part ‘Pushpa: The Rule’. Fahadh also spilled beans recently when he told ‘The Cue’ that the film might see a potential third part as the makers have enough material.

Fahadh had told ‘The Cue’ that director Sukumar initially planned the film as an OTT series with both first and second part narrated to him as one project. But now that it has been turned into a film, the makers might actually explore the possibility of a third part.

An official confirmation with regards to Manoj’s casting is awaited from the makers of ‘Pushpa’ and Manoj Bajpayee.

Rashmika delights paps with ‘Saami Saami’ hookstep in stunning outfit

0

She may be India’s crush but ‘Pushpa’ star Rashmika Mandanna has shown that she is a grounded person with her heart in the right place.

Srivalli aka Rashmika Mandanna has been the talk of tinsel town for her adorable gesture at a recent public appearance.

At the red carpet, the actress obliged the paps for some pictures and also went ahead to pose with all of them. She also flaunted the ‘Saami Saami’ hookstep and the famous ‘thaggede le’ hand gesture to the audiences.

Rashmika looked drop-dead gorgeous as she posed in a figure-hugging thigh-high length dress. Boasting a deep V-neck, and an accentuated fabric from her waist.

Letting the outfit do all the talking, Rashmika went minimal with her accessories. She opted for simple yet effective pair of hoop earrings to go with her ensemble. The makeup was flawless and kept in neutral tones.

Meanwhile, Rashmika is all set to make her debut in Bollywood with multiple films in the pipeline including Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal opposite Ranbir Kapoor. She will also share screen space with Sidharth Malhotra in Mission Majnu and Goodbye alongside Amitabh Bachchan.

Not what the script said: Poor scripts lead to string of Tollywood failures after ‘Pushpa’, ‘RRR’

0

Big stars, eminent directors and big budgets can’t guarantee success of a film and this has been proved by a string of failures in Tollywood after the smashing success of ‘Pushpa’.

Big stars, eminent directors and big budgets can’t guarantee success of a film and this has been proved by a string of failures in Tollywood after the smashing success of ‘Pushpa’.

The last four months saw several eagerly awaited movies hitting the screen but barring S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ starring Junior NTR and Ram Charan, others either bombed at the box-office or registered average success.

Chiranjeevi, arguably the biggest name in Tollywood, could not guarantee a great opening for ‘Acharya’.

Starring megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead and his son Ram Charan in an extended cameo, the movie directed by Koratala Siva was released on April 29 to a lukewarm response at the box office. Negative reviews saw a huge drop in the movie’s collection in the first four days.

It disappointed even in Telugu states. In Andhra Pradesh it opened to increased ticket prices for the first week as per the policy of the state government for big-budget movies. However, so poor is the performance of ‘Acharya’ that trade analysts believe its business may end within this week.

Despite the hype around the movie due to the presence of the father-son duo and a large number of their fans thronging theatres in the first week-end, it failed to live up to the expectations.

Those who track Tollywood say that Acharya could end up as one of the biggest disasters of 2022.

A cliched story and dated narrative without effective emotions resulted in the huge disappointment for Chiranjeevi’s fans who had high expectations with this maiden collaboration between megastar and successful director Koratala Siva.

This was the second famous father-son duo to flop at the box-office. Earlier, this year ‘Bangarraju’ starring Nagarjuna and his son Naga Chaitanya came as a disappointment. While their fans were excited to see them together on the screen, this could not save the movie based on a done and dusted script of a supernatural drama. Kalyan Krishna made this as a sequel to ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ (2016) which starred Nagarjuna in a dual role and was commercially successful.

Another big disaster this year is ‘Radhe Shyam’ starring Baahubali fame Prabhas in the lead. The multi-lingual period romantic drama failed to live up to the high expectations.

Starring Prabhas in the role of a world-famous palmist, ‘Radhe Shyam’ in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil had hit the screens on March 11. Despite stunning visuals, grand outdoors, visual effects, romance and good music, the movie bombed due to cliched story.

‘Bheemla Nayak’ starring Pawan Kalyan and ‘Baahubali’ fame Daggubati Rana was another much-anticipated movie to hit the screens in February.

It was a Telugu remake of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (2020), a Malayalam language action thriller. Unlike ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, which was about clash of egos between two men, it was Pawan Kalyan who dominated ‘Bheemla Nayak’. Rana’s role was played down to allow power star, as the brother of Chiranjeevi is popularly known in film circles, take the centre stage.

Romantic comedy ‘DJ Tillu’ starring young actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Neha Shetty in the lead also did average business.

Leading actor Ravi Teja starrer ‘Khiladi’ turned out to be a flop. Released theatrically along with a Hindi dubbed version on February 11 this movie, written and directed by Ramesh Varma.

Industry analysts say poor script is the main reason for many Telugu films bombing at the box office after the grand success of ‘Pushpa’. “The strength of the script makes a film successful. If somebody comes with a loose script and uninteresting script, automatically the film flops. No matter how big a star is and how good a director is, it all depends on the strength of the script. Nobody can save a film if the script is poor,” says film analyst Prabhu.

He believes that a film can succeed only if the script makes the audience sit in theatres without losing their attention.

The film critic, however, adds that a subject a filmmaker chooses is not the entire story. “Whatever line you take, it needs to have some interesting scenes. 10-15 interesting scenes elevate a movie. Lack of strength in the scenes is the main cause of failure. There are no other reasons because the filmmaking standards are very high, wonderful and far ahead,” he opined.

The expert says one can’t blame artists for a film’s failure as all stars are proven artists. It all depends on the script and character an artist gets.

“We can’t blame artists. Actor is like water which takes the shape of a vessel. It all depends on the capability of the director, how best he moulds the character and how best he creates interest in the character,” he said.

According to Prabhu, even ‘Pushpa’ did not have a great script but the way Allu Arjun inculcated the strength, the density of character, a rough and tough wild character and his mannerism helped. “This film has highlighted the smuggler’s character and glorified it. This shows the film does well even if the bad character is portrayed in an intensive and interesting manner,” he added.

3 months and 3 South films: Will Bollywood rechristen itself?

In the last three to four months of time, three south movies outperformed Bollywood movies and it is learnt that there’s a paradigm shift in the approach of Bollywood makers on film making. However the Big question is whether Bollywood will be able to rechristen itself and reclaim the throne i.e. top Industry of the country. Details as follows.

Three movies that have outperformed Bollywood movies in recent times are – Pushpa, RRR and KGF2. When Pushpa was released there wasn’t much buzz though. However the movie surpassed another Bollywood Big movie 83. Later when RRR released, Bollywood hero John Abraham commented that “We are not number 2 to any other industry “ and released his “Attack” movie while RRR was in theatres. Attack movie was a disaster at the box office. Now during KGF2 , Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey movie got postponed to release at a later point of time. Before just a couple of years, Telugu and Kannada movies forcing Bollywood movies change their release date couldn’t be conceived even in the dreams.

Now Bollywood makers seem to be in the thinking mode and plan movies on pan India scale. Most of the big wigs of Bollywood are asking the writers to again focus on heroic subjects rather than multiplex subjects. We need to wait and see whether Bollywood will be able to rechristen itself and if so how fast can that happen..

Close on the heels of ‘Pushpa’, ‘RRR’ reaffirms Tollywood’s pan-India appeal

0

The resounding theatrical success of ‘RRR’, from the two Telugu-speaking states to the United Kingdom, where it roared past Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Ambulance’ and Tom Holland’s ‘Uncharted’, has established Tollywood as India’s new cinema powerhouse.

With its worldwide earnings touching Rs 652 crore on its sixth day, far surpassing even the collections of ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘RRR’ has proved that S.S. Rajamouli’s competition is himself — after edging out his own ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ from the No. 2 all-time blockbuster spot, he has only ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’ to dislodge to establish ‘RRR’ as Indian cinema’s highest-ever grosser.

Coming close on the heels of the success of the Allu Arjun-starrer ‘Pushpa: The Rise’, which was 2021’s highest-grossing film pan-India, ‘RRR’ has made it amply clear that Telugu commercial cinema is the new entertainment leader in post-Covid India, especially when compared with much-hyped commercial duds such as ’83’, ‘Gangubai Kathiyawadi’ and ‘Bachchan Pandey’.

‘The Kashmir Files’ has been the only exception, but it owes much of its success to the manner in which it was adopted by the BJP and supported by its state governments with tax exemptions, especially after Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorsed it wholeheartedly.

Not only films, Telugu movie stars, such as Prabhas, Allu Arjun, Jr NTR and Ram Charan, have become well-known names across the country.

It’s certainly a far cry from the days when Bollywood ruled the box office, and if South Indian films got noticed, it was only if they won national awards or were remade into Hindi films, and their superstars rang a bell north of the Vindhyas only if they made waves in politics. Of course, there have been exceptions such as Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, but Tollywood stars were barely known outside the then undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Observers point to several factors for the growing national acceptance of movies from Tollywood and other South Indian film production hubs.

Telugu film critic and industry analyst Prabhu told IANS: “Television channels dedicated to screening of South Indian movies dubbed to Hindi, and then the arrival of OTT platforms, began opening up a wider audience for them.” Suddenly, all of India started watching and appreciating films made in the south.

The spread of multiplexes across an increasingly urbanised India, with their enormous appetite for software, have also helped South Indian producers to exhibit their films in traditional Hindi markets. But the multiplication of platforms and venues for the exhibition of movies alone cannot explain the growing pan-India footprint of South Indian cinema.

Bollywood’s fading star power is an oft-quoted reason. Much of Bollywood’s heft is thinning as stars such as the Khans, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn are in their 50s and past their prime. Increasingly, they don’t seem to be drawing audiences to cinemas. The developing vacuum has created a level playing field that South Indian movie stars are exploiting, says Bengaluru-based film scholar and critic M.K. Raghavendra.

The South is also scoring because of the grand visions of its movie-makers, which was amply evident in ‘RRR’.

Prabhu pointed to the larger-than-life portrayals of characters that South Indian filmmakers boldly etch on the big screen. “Can you imagine a filmmaker daring to think of a subject such as ‘Bahubali’ and spending so much time and attention as Rajamouli on building up its elements?” Prabhu asked.

Raghavendra added that South Indian filmmakers excel in adding ‘masala’ — action and emotion — in dollops. Something that Bollywood seems to be unable to effectively deliver anymore. “The stuff is pungent. That’s the taste people want,” he said.

“Hindi films are bland, so nobody wants them. They want masala and Hindi films no longer have masala like they did in the past. Telugu and Tamil films, moreover, are punchy. They hit you straight,” Raghavendra explained.

The soon-to-be-released ‘KGF: Chapter 2’, starring Kannada movie star Yash, is another South India potential blockbuster that has raised expectations, especially among the fans of ‘KGF: Chapter 1’, which raked in Rs 250 crore, a record for a Kannada film. It just changed the way the rest of India perceived Kannada cinema, which previously made news only because of its arthouse productions.

Allu Arjun’s Pushpa tops TRP ratings in Bollywood

0

Allu Arjun has undoubtedly emerged a national star with Pushpa: The Rise, which has Rashmika Mandanna, Fahadh Faasil and Sunil in important characters.

After creating collection records in theaters pan-India, the movie has now smashed TRP ratings in all centres with a huge difference when compared with Bollywood mega movies.

Pushpa is on a high with 4.35 TVR, Sooryavanshi 2.7 and 83 just 1.79 when it comes to HSM Urban. And, Pushpa is on top with 3.79 TVR, Sooryavanshi second with 3.18 and 83 third with 2.11 in HSM Urban Pay.

Not just that, Pushpa, Sooryavanshi and 83 respectively scored 4.23, 1.68 and 1.07 in HSM U+R. Now, isn’t this enough to show the power of pan-Indian movies as against Bollywood films?

Devi Sri Prasad has composed the music for Pushpa and the songs topped the charts in various languages. Besides the Telugu states and Maharashtra, the film directed by Sukumar and bankrolled by Mythri Movie Makers Muttamsetty Media ran successfully in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka too.

‘Sukumar is a hard nut to crack’: ‘Pushpa’ writer Srikanth Vissa

0

Srikanth Vissa, who penned the dialogues for blockbuster ‘Pushpa’, has also worked on Ravi Teja’s upcoming movie ‘Khiladi’.

The screenplay writer who has a busy lineup with multiple big-ticket movies in his kitty, states that it was not at all easy to work under director Sukumar.

In a candid interview with IANS, the ‘Khiladi’ writer (dialogues) shares his experience working for multiple movies in Telugu.

Srikanth Vissa, who was lauded by Sukumar for his work in ‘Pushpa’ said, “It is not an easy task to impress Sukumar Garu. He always craves perfection. Even in the slightest things, he looks for details”.

“Being a hard nut to crack, Sukumar sir always push me to do it better each time I bring in my dialogue work”.

Srikanth also mentions that the movie ‘Pushpa: The Rise’ had begun in a context that it will be lengthy, yet a single-episode movie.

“Later in the making, we understood that we had to make this movie in two parts. So, we are all ready with the scripting and other related works. We shall start shooting whenever the team is ready”, Srikanth said.

On being quizzed about his work experience with Allu Arjun, Srikanth said, “Allu Arjun is so easy to work with. He grasps even little things easily. It is a pleasure to see him in front of the camera”.

Srikanth Vissa, who has worked for several other movies like ‘Kittu Unnadu Jagratha’, ‘MCA- Middle-Class Abbayi’, ‘Pantham’, ‘Venky Mama’, ‘Amaram Akhilam Prema’ and many others, have provided dialogues and screenplay for multiple other movies.

Srikanth, who sees himself as a director sometime in the future, has a heavy lineup, which includes two movies with hero Ravi Teja, which has brought the duo closer.

As he has penned the dialogues for the upcoming movie ‘Khiladi’, he said that he has bonded with hero Ravi Teja, as they share mutual interests.

“Ravi Teja has become my family. We have travelled together, for more than a year now. He is such a hard worker and always energetic. He is so humble and we have become quite closer”.

Srikanth will be penning dialogues for ‘Ravansura’, ‘Tiger Nageswar Rao’, ’18 Pages’, ‘Pushpa 2’, ‘Devil’, and ‘Bhala Thandanana’.

Srikanth, who was supposed to work with late Kannada star Puneeth Raj Kumar, explains that he had been so heartbroken with the huge loss.

“I was supposed to start work with Puneeth sir. We had a chat over the script as well. Kicha Sudeep’s ‘Pehlwan’ director Krishna was supposed to direct the movie and I was supposed to work on the screenplay. But the heartbreaking incident took him away, leaving a void that can never be replaced,” he said.

Pushpa… Pushparaj… Jhukega Nahin, says the Congress Party

0

No…. Pushpa star Allu Arjun is not campaigning in the poll-bound state of Uttar Pradesh. He is too busy to go through the poll grind in the biggest state of the country. But, Pushpa’s most popular tunes are going to be used by the Congress party for the election campaign. Yes. The Congress has released peppy parodies of hit number “Choope Bangaramayene Sri Valli” for its campaign in the state.

Pushpa song has been dubbed as “Tu Hai Gajab UP… Teri Kasam” and shared on its Twitter handle. The song has visuals that depict the greatness of UP and how it contributes to the building of national identity. Dubbed versions of Pushpa are a rage across North India and have notched up over Rs 100 crore in the Hindi belt.  Several celebrities, cricketers and actors have done short videos dancing to this number.

This is not the first time that the Congress has used filmi numbers for its campaign. In fact, the Congress had secured the rights of AR Rahman’s hit number that got him the Oscars. Jai Ho was the Congress anthem in the 2009 general elections. This time around, they have chosen to capitalise on Pushpa mania.

But whether the song will be able to lift the fortunes of the Congress Party is a moot question. The party is fighting the election all alone and the SP has refused to ally with the Congress. Most electoral surveys have given the Congress Party less than ten seats in the UP elections. The seven-phase UP election will begin from February 10 and the results will be declared on March 10.

January 2022: Poor Start for Tollywood

0

2021 left the film industry in huge losses due to the coronavirus pandemic. The producers are left under huge stress because of the delays and the heaping up interests. December 2021 has been quite good after the month reported three hits in the form of Akhanda, Pushpa and Shyam Singha Roy. The crucial Sankranthi season is badly missed this year as there are no prominent releases except Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya’s Bangarraju. January started on a dull note with ten releases and nine flops.

Bangarraju reported decent footfalls during the Sankranthi season because of the stars. Before this, Aasha Encounter, Induvadhana, 1945 and Athididevobhava released during the first week of January. All these films ended up as disasters. Other Sankranthi releases Rowdy Boys and Hero ended up as flops and failed to make an impact. They failed to recover the huge budgets too. Kalyaan Dhev’s Super Machi failed to screen shows as they were no footfalls. Keerthy Suresh tested her luck with Good Luck Sakhi and the word of mouth is quite poor.

The film too will fail to recover the publicity expenses. This adds one more debacle for Keerthy Suresh. On the whole, January 2022 started on a dull note and Tollywood has high hopes on February.

‘He is Music’, says Allu Arjun, showering praise on ‘Srivalli’ singer Sid Sriram

0

Sid Sriram, who has become one of the country’s most talked-about singers after the success of his ‘Srivalli’ track for ‘Pushpa’, was praised by the film’s lead actor Allu Arjun as he remembered an event where the crooner belted out the now-famous song without any musical accompaniment.

The absence of music had been caused by a technical glitch, but that did not stop the California-raised, Chennai-based Sriram from continuing with the performance.

This happened before the release of ‘Pushpa’. Recalling the event, Allu Arjun took to Twitter to say: “Wanted to write this at leisure. My brother Sid Sriram Garu was singing ‘Srivalli’ on stage at the pre-release event.”

He went on to note: “He started singing without music and I was waiting for the musical instruments to start slowly supporting his vocals. But they didn’t. And he kept singing without any music.”

Sharing a video of the event, Allu Arjun concluded: “I was blown away. It was sounding so magical I thought in my head … ‘He doesn’t need music. HE IS MUSIC.”

Overwhelmed by the heartfelt praise, Sriram said: “Brother, I am beyond humbled. So much love! You are a legend and these words mean the world to me.”

After Warner, Suresh Raina now dances to Allu Arjun’s ‘Srivalli’

0

The number ‘Srivalli’ from the Telugu blockbuster ‘Pushpa – The Rise’, featuring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, seems to have captured not just the hearts of fans and film buffs but also cricketers.

First, it was Australian cricketer David Warner, who loved the number so much that he put out a video of him replicating actor Allu Arjun’s dance moves for the superhit number. Now, Suresh Raina too seems to have tried his hand at dancing for the same song.

Raina, however, danced to the Hindi version of the hit number. He posted a video clip of him dancing to the number on Instagram and said: “I couldn’t stop but try this myself.”

The cricketer also heartily congratulated Allu Arjun for a fine performance in the film that was directed by Sukumar.

He said: “Allu Arjun, what an incredible performance in Pushpa brother! Wishing you lots of success!”

The makers spent lavishly on the making and the promotions. The final statistics made it clear that the makers could not make huge profits but they managed to land safe. Allu Arjun and Sukumar are busy with the sequel which is titled Pushpa: The Rule and the shoot commences very soon.

The biggest mistake made by Mythri for Pushpa: The Rise is that they sold out the non-theatrical rights of the film even before the release of Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo. They are now in plans to hold all the rights till the film’s release. Pushpa: The Rule will also start on a high note in Hindi and Tamil because of the first installment. The pre-release business outside the Telugu states would be exceptional for Pushpa: The Rule. Allu Arjun is also keen to promote the second installment all over the country and a perfect promotional plan will be chalked out before the release.

Mythri Movie Makers are keen to make Pushpa: The Rule on lavish standards and plan a grand release without any rush. They are pretty sure that the first installment paved paths for the second one. The film is expected to release in December this year.

Pushpa (Telugu) Worldwide Closing Collections – All Time Top 7th

1

Pushpa (Telugu) has ended up its run worldwide with a distributor share of 109 Cr. The film is the second-highest grosser of Allu Arjun and 7th highest of all time beating Saaho.

The film is a profitable venture, except for the AP where the film had ridiculous pricing from distributors. Producers are refunding the losses to buyers here, that’s a bit of relief but still not enough as much as it should have been. In the Nizam area, the film is the fourth highest of all time just behind the Baahubali’s and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo.

Verdict: Telugu Version of the film is Success / Above Average
