January 2022: Poor Start for Tollywood

0

2021 left the film industry in huge losses due to the coronavirus pandemic. The producers are left under huge stress because of the delays and the heaping up interests. December 2021 has been quite good after the month reported three hits in the form of Akhanda, Pushpa and Shyam Singha Roy. The crucial Sankranthi season is badly missed this year as there are no prominent releases except Nagarjuna and Naga Chaitanya’s Bangarraju. January started on a dull note with ten releases and nine flops.

Bangarraju reported decent footfalls during the Sankranthi season because of the stars. Before this, Aasha Encounter, Induvadhana, 1945 and Athididevobhava released during the first week of January. All these films ended up as disasters. Other Sankranthi releases Rowdy Boys and Hero ended up as flops and failed to make an impact. They failed to recover the huge budgets too. Kalyaan Dhev’s Super Machi failed to screen shows as they were no footfalls. Keerthy Suresh tested her luck with Good Luck Sakhi and the word of mouth is quite poor.

The film too will fail to recover the publicity expenses. This adds one more debacle for Keerthy Suresh. On the whole, January 2022 started on a dull note and Tollywood has high hopes on February.

Nani stands for his Producer

0

Natural Star Nani’s recent offering Shyam Singha Roy is winning the hearts of the audience and is minting decent money all over. The film is the costliest one in his career and Nani wanted to take his remuneration after the film’s theatrical run comes to an end. With the current situation not favorable, Nani decided to stand by his producer Venkat Boyanapalli. Nani wanted his producer to recover the investments first and he will take a call on his remuneration at a later date.

The makers of Shyam Singha Roy decided to release the film on their own across Andhra region. The received advances are quite low when compared to the market of Nani. After the producer took a daring step, Nani decided to stand by his producer. Nani will take a small paycheque for the film. He will discuss about this once the theatrical end comes to an end. With RRR and Sankranthi biggies postponed, Shyam Singha Roy will have a decent run at the box-office for a couple of weeks.

The makers recovered a major portion of the budget through the non-theatrical rights. The movie is expected to end up as a decent grosser at the Tollywood box-office. Rahul Sankrityan directed Shyam Singha Roy and Nani, Sai Pallavi, Krithi Shetty played the lead roles. Niharika Entertainment are the producers.

S.S. Thaman’s cryptic message hints at creative differences with Nani

0

Music director S.S. Thaman has posted a cryptic message which is seen as a jab at actor Nani as Thaman has said that a movie can never be a one-man show.

Thaman’s tweet reads, “We call it a Complete FILM when all the crafts together excel in all formats… It’s never so-called Dominated Crafts …lol it’s the deeper UNDERSTANDING of a film knowing its depth in dialogues its narration & making it dive in smooth to the next sequences.”

“So without a great visualisation great making great characterizations well written scripts with true emotions narrated in a proper pace directed magnanimously & standout performances from the artists… It’s Never One Man Show … We love CINEMA & WE DIE FOR IT,” Thaman tweeted.

Thaman, in his tweet, has written things that make it clear who he is hinting at.

Thaman seems to have taken Nani’s recent comments on filmmaking personally, and hence has reacted on the same, as per the sources.

In one of his recent promotional interviews for ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, Nani said any technician or artiste’s work should not singularly dominate the film. He particularly spoke about music and the other aspects.

“There is something wrong if people talk about a musician’s work or cinematographer’s visuals or actor’s performance over the film. A film should not be a one-man show,” Nani said.

Nani’s response to Narayana Murthy calling him the ‘Aamir Khan of Telugu cinema’

0

Telugu star Nani, who is buoyed with the success of his movie ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, said that veteran director R. Narayana Murthy praising him as the “Aamir Khan of Telugu cinema”, will stay with him forever.

In an exclusive interview with IANS, Nani expressed his happiness over the compliments received from Narayana Murthy.

“Of all the compliments I have ever received, Narayana Murthy Garu’s words will stay with me forever. He is not a person who says one thing for the media and another thing for other’s sake”, Nani conveyed.

“Those words coming from one of the finest artistes and most importantly, the most humble person, makes me really happy”.

Tollywood director R. Narayan Murthy, who attended the success party of ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ as the chief guest, heaped praise on the film’s team.

Murthy called Nani the “Aamir Khan of Telugu cinema”, citing his choice of films.

Speaking of the movie’s success, Nani said that ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ gave him a chance to answer all the questions.

“In reference to the pandemic conditions, my movie ‘Tuck Jagadish’ was released digitally on the OTT platform. After that, coming up with a movie during the season of multiple releases, had many questions about its performance at the box-office,” Nani said.

He conveyed, “Shyam Singha Roy’ has answered all those questions.”

On being quizzed about how he had managed to meet as many as 3,000 fans in just one day, Nani said that he is not someone who would want his fans to waste time waiting to meet him.

“I’ve never been in favour of my fans waiting to see me. I understand the hardships that they must endure during the waiting process. But, for once, I wanted to meet them all. I was overwhelmed to see them happy,” the ‘Ala Modhalaindi’ actor said.

He also said that he does not want his fans to face any problems. Nani said, “If I meet them, it will be for them. If I do not, it will be for them. I don’t want them to get into trouble just to see me”.

Nani, who has been promoting ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, seems to be confident that Rahul Sankrityan’s directorial will do well in the coming days too.

“I was saying that Christmas is ‘Shyam Singha Roy’s. Now, we have the New Year in our hands. We are going to celebrate,” he said.

Nani is next seen in ‘Ante Sundaraniki’, which is set to go on floors soon. Later in 2022, he will begin filming his next movie ‘Dasara’.

Sai Pallavi secretly watches her movie ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ in theatre wearing ‘burqa’

0

Actress Sai Pallavi, who allured the audience as Rosie in ‘Shyam Singha Roy’, visited a crowded theatre in Hyderabad while wearing a ‘burqa’ to hide her identity.

The ‘Fidaa’ actress wanted to witness the audience’s reaction to her movie, hence she paid a secret visit to the theatre, where she sat with the audience and watched their reactions during the screening.

A video was released, in which Sai Pallavi is seen entering the theatre wearing a ‘burqa’, as she sits along with the audience.

The video also features her looking at the audience cheer during one of her dance performances in ‘Shyam Singha Roy’.

“Maam, how was the movie?”, her team member asked on a witty note, as she walks out of the theatre after the screening.

No one recognised her while she was watching the movie, even though it was heavily crowded.

Sai Pallavi then returned to her vehicle, as she slightly opens her veil, smiling all the way.

‘Shyam Singha Roy’ has been running successfully at the theatres.

Nani plays a dual role in the movie, while Sai Pallavi appears as a ‘devadasi’ in Rahul Sankrityan’s directorial.

‘Nani’s words are being twisted’: Producer Dil Raju defends Telugu star

0

‘Shyam Singha Roy’ producer Dil Raju has defended lead star Nani against criticism over the actor’s comments on the ticket price issue.

The makers of Nani and Sai Pallavi-starrer ‘Shyam Singha Roy’ had organised a success event for the movie. Dil Raju, who addressed the gathering, spoke on the movie’s success.

Dil Raju also conveyed that Nani is being targeted for no reason. Backing Nani for his comments on the movie ticket issue, Dil Raju said that Nani had spoken on issues faced by the Telugu film industry, but his words had been deliberately twisted.

“Nani was the only actor who gave up two theatrical releases. He understood the situation and allowed the makers to release his movies on OTT platforms. He is a sensible actor,” Dil Raju said.

He said, “Some media people are trying to twist Nani’s words. Even the YouTube thumbnails are misleading. The forepart is chopped off just to make him bad.”

Nani had spoken about the ongoing issue of movie ticket prices, which triggered negative reactions against the ‘Tuck Jagadish’ actor.

Nani Is Telugu Aamir Khan: R Narayana Murthy

2

Natural Star Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy had a superb first weekend at the box office. It is one of the rare instances in recent times a film is getting commercial success as well as critical acclaim. R Narayana Murthy attended the film’s success meet as a Special Guest and heaped praise on the team. He called Nani the Aamir Khan of Tollywood.

“Nani is Telugu Aamir Khan. He is a mind-blowing perfectionist, a wonderful actor. His personality looks small but the impact is superb. When he is fighting at the Kaali Maa, I could not stop slapping. He is an action hero there and is an emotional hero in the climax. Salute to his performance,” R Narayana Murthy said.

“I was stunned by his getup as Shyam Singha Roy. I came to know he designed the getup himself. I am proud of his acting. I felt like he is another NTR, another Shivaji Ganeshan, and another ANR. Shyam Singha Roy came as a big relief for the industry,” he added.

With Shyam Singha Roy, Dil Raju completed a hattrick success as a distributor in Nizam. “These hits have come at a time when the industry is struggling. These successes give us a lot of energy. Nani was very disappointed with the OTT releases, Please don’t misunderstand him,” Dil Raju said.

Sai Pallavi who rocked the show as Rosy thanked everyone taking each other’s names is all smiles. “It gives me immense satisfaction when I see the audience is enjoying every scene in the film,” the actress said.

Nani is a relieved man with the movie’s success. “I am being flooded with non-stop messages for the last three days. People are not talking about it in a line or two. They are writing essays. That speaks volumes about the film’s success. The audience proved that they would encourage good films always. I will try my level best to give such good films,” the Natural star said. He also mentioned and appreciated everyone’s effort in the movie taking their names.

Krithi Shetty about acting in Bold Scenes

0

After impressing the audience as Bebamma in a traditional role in Uppena, Krithi Shetty is rushed with offers. The actress played a modern role as Keerthi in Nani’s recent offering Shyam Singha Roy. Krithi Shetty has been seen in bold episodes in the film. Responding about acting in bold scenes, Krithi said “Acting in bold scenes isn’t a tough job. We put the same efforts as the other scenes. If there is a requirement of romantic scenes in a film, I am ready to act”.

“Shyam Singha Roy needed the romantic episode with a bold scene and I accepted it. I hate smoking but the director convinced me. I smoked nicotine-free cigarettes in the film. I completed the shoot of Bangarraju and E Ammayi Gurinchi Meeku Telusu. I am shooting for Nithin’s Macharla Niyojakavargam and Ram’s film. I am in talks for a couple of other films and will announce them soon” told Krithi Shetty.

0

Shyam Singha Roy has a good opening day in the Telugu States as the film has collected a distributor share of 3.60 Cr. The film has done good business though it has been affected by theatres shutdown and ticket cap in Andhra Pradesh. Nizam numbers should have been better but it has been released in less number of theatres as there are other films like Pushpa & 83(multiplexes) in play. The film is an own release in A.P and Nizam rights are valued at 8.5 Cr. The film should do well over the weekend and the litmus test starts on Monday.

Guts of Nani’s Producer turns the talk of Tollywood

0

Nani’s Shyam Singha Roy opened to packed houses and the response is extremely positive. The movie suffered badly in Andhra Pradesh after YS Jagan’s government issued an ultimatum to close the theatres that are screening Nani’s film. Before this, during the pre-release press conference, Nani spoke out facts saying that the collections in Kirana stores are higher than in the theatres in the state. Shyam Singha Roy is the costliest film made in Nani’s career till date and the production values are widely appreciated.

Venkat Boyanapalli may not be a known face for the audience but he has been in the industry for a decade. He is making his debut as a producer with Shyam Singha Roy. When the AP distributors explained the situation, Venkat Boyanapalli decided to take the risk and headed for his own release. The Nizam distribution rights are sold to Dil Raju and the film would make decent profits in the region. Spending more than the budget of Nani and heading for an own release is not everyone’s cup of tea. The guts of Venkat Boyanapalli are widely discussed and this is now the talk of the Tollywood. Despite several challenges ahead, he made sure that the film got a smooth, comfortable and wide release. Social media is lauding the guts of this new Tollywood’s producer.

Shyam Singha Roy received top-class response and the film is running with packed houses all over.

Shyam Singha Roy Review : A Well-Crafted Love Saga

Shyam Singha Roy Review

Shyam Singha Roy Review

Telugu360 Rating : 3.5/5

Story :

Vasudev (Nani) is a wannabe film maker who makes a a successful short film ‘Varnam’. Thrilled with this success he works to make a regular movie hoping it becomes a blockbuster. He hires Kirthi as the heroine. A brake to his dreams comes when he is accused by a prominent publisher of a copy right violation stating that he made his short film copying from their 1970’ story. During the legal proceedings Vasudev argues that his is an original story. Clinical hypnosis reveals Vasu’s past life as Shyam Singha Roy. Rest of the movie showcases the Singha Roy – devadasi Mytreyi’s love story from 1970’s era with string connecting to Vasu’s current life.

Analysis:
The movie starts off as a story of an aspiring film maker, with artistic touch especially noticed with the songs. ‘Tara’, ‘Edo Edo’ songs are visually rich. Uppena star Krithi Shetty is a sight to watch – her beauty blends well with esthetics in these songs. With light comedy interlaced the first half is a decent time pass and ends with the introduction of Shyam Singha Roy.

Shyam, born to a Bengali father and a Telugu mother, is a social reformer and rebel poet in Kharagpur. He falls in love with the Mythreyi (Sai Pallavi), a devadasi, and liberates her from the clutches of the oppressive feudal system. The second of the movie is a visual poetry. The aerial shots following the lead couple’s moonlight romance are outstanding. Sanu Varghese’s camera work is stunning and deserves a special mention.

The songs ‘Pranavalaya’, ‘Nela Raju ni – Ila Rani ni kalipindhi’ are shot very well. Sai Pallavi excelled at dancing and her expressions in the classical dances are beautiful. She is a great asset and a perfect casting choice for the Mytreyi role. Mickey J Mayor’s songs and background score are very good and gel well with the movie narration.

Director Rahul Sankirtyan ‘s screenplay connects the dots well to showcase the reincarnation concept. Especially impressive is the highlighting the importance of Vasu’s short film to the core story. This young director surprised the audience with his wonderful story telling and visual narration. The producers have spent a very good budget as is required for this kind of a partial periodic film.

Performances:

Nani is natural in his role of Vasudev. In his second role as the rebellious Shyam Singha Roy, he delivers a commanding performance. This film is yet another milestone in his acting career. Sai Pallavi’s is perfect for the crucial devasai role. Her performance and dance are a delight to watch. Krithi Shetty got a reasonable role, and she is lively.

Positives :
• A fresh, interesting story
• Excellent direction and use of technical crafts
• Nani & Sai Pallavi ‘s splendid performances
• Emotionally rich second half
• Poetic visuals, good Lyrics
• Very good songs
• Good screen Play

Negatives :

• Slow pace

Verdict:

Shyam Singha Roy is a superbly made emotional film that deserves an all-round appreciation. Director Rahul delivers an engaging and poetic love saga with supreme production values. Second half has an arresting story which is a class of its own. This film is recommended as a good watch for the families, class film lovers. A well-crafted film in Telugu Industry after a long pause.
