Medicines in govt hospitals must meet WHO standards: Jagan

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday directed officials to ensure that all government hospitals and ESI facilities use medicines complying with World Health Organisation (WHO) and GMP standards.

Reddy gave the instructions while reviewing coronavirus control and vaccination at his camp office.

“Special attention should be paid to sanitation in hospitals and food provided to patients along with hospital maintenance and medical infrastructure with regular monitoring, ” he said.

The Chief Minister instructed authorities to prepare SoPs ensuring proper mechanism in place, including appointing a special office to see that all hospitals have access to infrastructure, proper sanitation, and to monitor attendance of doctors, nurses, and other staff.

As many people are going to other states for cancer, heart disease and paediatric surgeries, Reddy directed authorities to ensure that medical services for these ailments are available in AP and prioritising the establishment of such specialty hospitals in the planned hubs.

Jagan’s Kapu conundrum: How to bring in 2 more Kapus without disturbing social equations?

0

Heightened political activity among the Kapus is turning out to be a real test of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s political sagacity. Several Kapu leaders are said to be in a ‘now or never’ mood to grab ministries in Jagan’s cabinet. Among the Kapu leaders, at least two MLAs are in a tearing hurry to secure ministries. Kapu strongman from East Godavari Thota Trimurthulu and Jagan loyalist Ambati Rambabu are pulling all stops to become ministers.

Ambati is a Jagan loyalist and has been one of the strongest voices defending Jagan and his policies. He is also from the Kapu community and hoped for a place in the cabinet in 2019 itself. However, caste calculations and social engineering by Jagan kept him out of the cabinet. Sources say that Jagan had promised him a ministry in the cabinet reshuffle. So, he is hopeful of becoming a minister this time.

The second Kapu leader who is moving heaven and earth to become a minister is Thota Trimurthulu. This four-time MLA has now been made an MLC in the governor’s quota. Known to be a dashing leader, Thota wants to become a minister this time. He has Jagan’s backing too. Both Thota and Ambati are needed to counter Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in 2024 elections.

However, Both East Godavari and Guntur have three ministers each and the quota is full. The Jagan cabinet has five Kapu leaders already. They are Kurasala Kanna Babu, Alla Nani, Perni Nani, Bosta Satyanarayana and Avanthi Srinivas. All these are strong leaders in their own right and replacing them would not be easy. How will Jagan juggle his team and ensure that Ambati and Thota are in without disturbing the existing five Kapu leaders? Let’s see how Jagan manages this.

Create helpline for complaints on welfare housing: Jagan

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday directed officials to create a separate phone number to receive complaints over the quality of work in constructing houses in ‘Jagananna’ colonies and TIDCO houses.

“Separate number should be allotted for complaints over the quality of work and suggestions board should be set up in every layout with those details and the feedback should be regularly reviewed,” said Reddy.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting to check the progress with respect to construction and directed officials to solve problems in arranging water and electricity facilities required for the housing programme.

He said these works should be completed within a week in all the layouts.

Likewise, Reddy instructed officials that transport charges should not rise abruptly in view of a large number of houses being constructed.

According to the CM, it is his dream to spend up to Rs 34,000 crore to develop infrastructural facilities in ‘Jagananna’ colonies.

“The goal is to provide the best living standards for the poor and the colonies being set up by the housing scheme for the poor should not be turned into slums, but into good standard housing colonies for the poor and everyone from higher officials to lower staff should work with determination to achieve the goal,” he noted.

Officials informed Reddy that 2.08 lakh TIDCO units will be completed in 18 months.

“Works related to mapping, geo-tagging, issuing of job cards, registration were almost completed and construction of 3.03 lakh houses has already started and construction of 7 lakh houses will start by July 10,” said an official.

Similarly, construction of houses opted to be built by the government will start in the month of Sravana while the construction of first phase houses will be completed by June 2022.

Training camps are being organised for engineers, engineering assistants in villages and ward secretariats on quality assurance.

What is Jagan’s biggest headache?

1

What is YS Jagan’s biggest headache? It’s not Chandrababu, not TDP not even the BjP. His biggest worry these days is the internecine squabbles in the party. In almost every constituency, there are two rival groups within the party and they are at loggerheads with one another.

In Rajampet lok sabha constituency, three of the assembly constituencies are from Kadapa, while the remaining four are from Chittoor. Chittoor strongman Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s son Mithun Reddy is the MP from this constituency. So, Peddireddy is the dominant personality in the Chittoor region. But, when it comes to Kadapa, the local MLAs are resenting the domination of Mithun Reddy. In Rajampet, the MP and local MLA Meda Mallikarjun Reddy are at logger heads. This is affecting the party in a very significant way.

In Narsaraopet Lok Sabha constituency too, the same story is being repeated. Local MP’s movement in Chilakaluripet assembly constituency are being blocked by local YSRCP MLA Vidadala Rajini. Her supporters are clashing with the MP’s cadre. She suspects that MP Lavu Krishnadevarayalu is pally with her rival Marri Rajasekhar.

Similar situation is prevailing in Chirala. In Chirala assembly constituency, party nominee Amanchi Krishna Mohan was trounced by traditional rival Karanam Balaram. In the later developments, Karanam joined the YSRCP. Now, both Karanam and Amanchi are fighting every step of the way. Both the leaders are trying to undercut one another. Similar rivalry is existing between Minister Balineni and MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy. Both want to promote their respective sons as the future candidates from Giddaluru. That’s where the problem began.

Similar internal rivalries are marring the YSRCP in most constituencies. The MPs and the MLAs are not getting along well. The fight is more intense in several constituencies. Till now, YS Jagan has done nothing to set things right. Party sources say that its time Jagan acted quickly and set the house in order. Otherwise, the situation would become too difficult to retrieve, say analysts.

TRS ‘strategy’ behind attacking YSR, Jagan!

1

The ruling TRS in Telangana has stepped up its verbal attack on late CM YS Rajashekar Reddy and AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy as July 8 date nears.

YSR’s daughter and Jagan’s sister is launching her “YSR Telangana Party” (YSRTP) in Telangana on July 8 on the occasion of YSR’s birth anniversary.

Sharmila is touring Karimnagar district tomorrow to console families who lost the lives of their near and dear ones due to Covid and also due to failures of TRS government on various issues.

TRS has devised a strategy to check Sharmila’s party in Telangana. It wants to aggressively project YSR’s family as ‘anti Telangana’ by calling YSR as ‘thief’ and Jagan as ‘bigger thief’ who stole and stealing Telangana’s share of Krishna water to Seemandhra.

Accordingly, TRS ministers and MLAs were asked to conduct press meets daily to attack YSR and Jagan thereby push Sharmila into defensive mode in Telangana ahead of her party’s launch on July 8.

Campaign door-to-door for Disha app installation: Andhra CM

1

Following the shocking gang-rape of a woman on the banks of Krishna river recently, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy called for a door to door campaign to ensure all women download Disha app, a women’s safety app.

“Going door to door to ensure the app is downloaded by all women and to create awareness on the app through volunteers and women police in village and ward secretariats,” emphasized Reddy on Wednesday in a high-level review on women’s safety in the state.

He called for training volunteers and women police on awareness campaigns who should go on to explain how the app will be useful in dangerous situations.

Reddy said the initiative should be taken as a drive, including educating students in colleges and institutions on the utility of the app.

“By creating proper awareness, usage of Disha App will be increased. Upon getting any alarm through the app, Disha police stations and local police stations should be alerted and a quick action must be initiated,” the Chief Minister noted.

Similarly, he directed officials to equip all police stations with the required number of patrolling vehicles.

Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharita, Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang, intelligence chief K.V. Rajendranath Reddy and other officials attended the meeting.

AP CM Jagan thanks Chiranjeevi

0

AP CM Jagan thanked mega star for his recent kind words on the government. It seems, Chiranjeevi is trying to be politically neutral and win governments’ favour. Details as follows.

It is known news that Chiranjeevi has praised Jagan government’s vaccination program recently. He tweeted, “ So happy at the fabulous feat of vaccinating over 13.72 lac people in a single day by Health teams in #AndhraPradesh.Your efforts fill confidence in everyone about defeating the Covid monster! Way to go TeamAP. More Power to You!Congrats to Sri @ysjagan for inspiring leadership.”

Today Jagan responded to the tweet of Mega star and tweeted, “@KChiruTweets Garu, on behalf of the state government, I thank you for your kind words of appreciation. Credit goes to the team effort by the Village/Ward Secretariats, Volunteers, ANMs, ASHA workers, PHC doctors, Mandal Officers, District Officers, JCs & Collectors.”

However, Chiranjeevi’s soft nature is not much appreciated by his fans. Especially they don’t like it when Chiranjeevi praises YS Jagan. Most of them want Chiranjeevi to support Pawan Kalyan, who is vehemently opposing Jagan’s ruling. They even reminded him how Sakshi tarnished his image 10 years ago. Some of his fans did not support even when he demanded Bharata Ratna for legend NTR. However Chiranjeevi, as usual, not hesitating to appreciate and raise voice for those who damaged him at some point of time.

No invite for Jagan, KCR for Third Front meeting!

1

NCP chief Sharad Pawar has stepped up efforts to forge Third Front against BJP government at the Centre to contest 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Third Front will be reportedly headed by West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.

Pawar has invited leaders of various parties opposing BJP for a meeting today to discuss on forging Third Front.

But there was no invite to YSRCP chief, AP CM YS Jagan and TRS chief, Telangana CM KCR.

This gave indications that all parties consider Jagan and KCR are allies of BJP and supporters of PM Narendra Modi.

Though KCR earlier made attempts to forge Federal Front against BJP and Congress at national level prior to 2019 Lok Sabha polls and met leaders of various regional parties, nobody seem to be believing KCR will oppose BJP.

Both Jagan and KCR are maintaining friendly ties with BJP and Modi.

This is said to be the reason for Mamata and Pawar ignoring Jagan and KCR for Third Front meeting today.

‘True freedom only when women can walk freely at night’

1

Condemning the horrific rape which occurred on the banks of the Krishna river recently, Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, on Tuesday, said true freedom is only achieved when women can walk freely at midnight.

“I strongly believe that true freedom is only achieved when women can walk freely in the middle of the night without fear,” said Reddy.

He said the Seethanagaram Pushkar Ghat incident is unfortunate and has enraged him.

“Such incidents should not have happened. The government and the police department should do everything they can to prevent such incidents from repeating,” said the CM.

As the protector of women, Reddy vowed that he will work hard to prevent such things from happening in the future.

Kshatriya community gives shock to Jagan with ads

Kshatriya community from Telangana and Andhra Pradesh issued big advertisements in newspapers today taking strong exception against YSRCP leaders abusing Kshatriya leaders. This is for the first time that such ads were issued to lodge protest against any government.

They are angry at YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy and AP endowments minister Vellampalli Srinivas for abusing TDP leader P Ashok Gajapathi Raju, hailing from Kshatriya community over Mansas Trust case.

AP High Court reinstated Ashok as Mansas Trust chairman recently quashing YSRCP government orders removing him from the post.

YSRCP leaders abused Ashok as well asKshatriya community later by conducting press meets later. This angered Kshatriya communities in Telugu States.

They issued ads raising objection and urged all not to attack their community under the guise of politics. They said their community leaders are in all parties and serving public for generations.

They also took objection to YSRCP leadera attacking Kshatriya community under the guise of attacking YSRCP rebel MP Raghurama Krishna Raju, who also hails from Kshatriya community.

Why KCR started ‘water war’ with Jagan all of a sudden?

0

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao raked up Krishna water dispute with Andhra Pradesh all of a sudden.

In the cabinet meeting held on Saturday, KCR lashed out at Jagan government for taking up Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme on Krishna river and Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme right canal on Tungabhadra river illegally without obtaining any approvals from regulatory agencies concerned.

KCR decided to construct several new projects on Krishna to divert water to Telangana in retaliation for AP constructing illegal projects.

RLIS and Rajolibanda are not taken up by AP today. They are going on for over a year but why KCR is raking up this issue now as if they started yesterday. Political analysts see Sharmila’s angle into this issue.

Sharmila becoming active in Telangana politics and attacking TRS, KCR and his family members and KCR strongly believes that Sharmila has Jagan’s secret blessings to settle in Telangana politics.

To counter this, KCR is raking up Krishna water row to project YSR family as anti Telangana and rake up regional passions again foe his political mileage and check Jagan and Sharmila in Telangana.

Jagan’s Job calendar: Rude joke on job aspirants on many fronts

Andhra Pradesh chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy announced job calenda. The government and its advisors seems to be of the opinion that recruiting 10,000 jobs in the span of next one year can be termed as a ‘Revolution in the country’ . But the unemployed and job aspirants, who thought that upcoming job calendar will turn their fate, received a big jolt after going through the details of job calendar.

First of all the announcement doesn’t fit the definition of job calendar. Job calendar is expected to contain the details of the date of notification, the date of exam , and the date of results. In fact UPSC does release this kind of job calendar every year. However the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and his advisers seem to be believing that a mere announcement of upcoming jobs itself is the job calendar.

The count of combined jobs of Group 1&2 is 36? Jagan must be kidding:

Secondly the job aspirants who have been preparing for the group 1 and 2 examinations to be conducted by Andhra Pradesh Public service commission received a big jolt after seeing that there will be only 36 jobs in total for group 1 and group 2 posts combined. To be frank the previous group 1 notification issued during the tenure of Chandrababu Naidu had 148 jobs of group 1 rank. Similarly group 2 jobs were to the tune of 300+. If we combine number of posts of a single group 1 notification and group 2 notification, the total used to be between 400 and 500. But Jagan government announcing only 36 posts for group 1 and group 2 together hugely disappointed the job aspirants .

What is a job calendar if it doesn’t mention DSC :

Another surprising and disappointing element for the job aspirants is that, there is no mention of teacher posts to be filled in next one year. Usually most of the middle class students aim for teacher posts and police constable posts in addition to group 1, group 2, group 3 and group 4 jobs. However those who have pinned their hopes on job calendar for teacher posts were in a huge a disappointment as there was nothing in this and also there was no single DSC notification in Jagan’s government till date. Moreover, there is no mention of group 3 and group 4 jobs in the current job calendar.

Filling 4 lakh Contract and outsourcing jobs without following reservations- gross injustice to weaker sections:

The government also announced that, in the last one and half year, approximately four lakh jobs were filled through outsourcing and contractual agreements. Even though many people question where were the notifications for these jobs and they doubt the veracity of this statement, some people started stating- if this is true , this is a gross injustice to the weaker sections. Because government doesn’t need to follow any reservations mandated by the Constitution of India while filling such contractual jobs. So by giving preference to such outsourcing jobs, Government has done injustice to the job aspirants belonging to SC, ST and BC Sections.

Overall the job aspirants and unemployed youth seems to be disappointed with the details mention in the job calendar and are requesting the government to revise the calendar with more posts as per the numbers promised by Jagan during election campaign.

No employee will be laid off from schools, Anganwadis: Andhra CM

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday assured that not a single employee will be laid off from the schools and Anganwadi centres of the state in the process of implementing the New Education Policy (NEP).

He also assured that no Anganwadi centre will be closed and clarified that the changes to the education system are being implemented after taking these two factors into consideration.

Reddy instructed the officials that two types of schools should be set up. The first one consisting of preparatory classes 1 and 2 should be within a kilometre’s distance from the students. Other schools from Class 3 to Class 10 should be located within a distance of 3 km from the students.

“The main purpose of this policy is to keep the teacher-student ratio rational, as it’s not appropriate to have one teacher for four students or a single teacher for a large number of students. The approach of a single teacher teaching all the subjects is also incorrect,” he said.

According to the Chief Minister, it is important to maintain a balanced teacher-student ratio in the foundation courses, as mental development is essential for children below the age of eight years.

The Chief Minister said the government aims to provide quality education, and called for the state’s education policy to be in sync with the NEP.

Likewise, he said the government is also looking forward to offering quality education in English medium.

Reviewing the Nadu-Nedu scheme, Reddy directed the officials to prepare an action plan to complete the scheme’s work in the Anganwadi centres in two years’ time.

Jagan’s dilemma: Christian from Centra Andhra or Muslim from Rayalaseema?

1

If it was TDP which turned social engineering into its credo for political success in the Telugu states, the YSRCP has taken it to the next level. YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been very careful about fine balancing castes and regions. He has taken extra precautions to ensure that all the major communities in the state are satisfied about their political representation.

He is said to be factoring caste and religious equations in choosing the chairperson and deputy chairperson of the Legislative Council. Now that chairperson and TDP leader MA Sharief has come to an end, Jagan has to choose a new chairperson. Sources say that Jagan is studying all caste equations deeply.

Sources say that the post might go either to a person from the scheduled castes or from the minority community. They say that Jagan is consulting key leaders of the party on this. The choice could be between Moshen Raju of West Godavari and Iqbal of Hindupuram. One is from the Cental Coastal region while the other is from Rayalaseema. The speaker of the assembly Tammineni Sitara is from North Andhra and he is from the BC community.

Insiders say that if Moshen Raju, a Dalit and a Christian is made the chairperson, then Iqbal, a Muslim from Rayalaseema, would be made the deputy chairperson. If it is Iqbal, then Moshen Raju would be his deputy. Who would be the chief and who would be the deputy chairperson would be decided very soon sources say.

Jagan has initially toyed with the idea of completely abrogating the legislative council. But, within a couple of months, his party would secure the majority. So he has dropped the idea of abrogating it. He is now trying to rehabilitate several leaders, who could not be given MLA tickets in 2019 elections.

Release Rs 4K cr pending dues to farmers: TDP

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday wrote to chief minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, demanding the immediate release of dues to farmers, amounting to as much as Rs 4,000 crore.

“Pending dues to farmers are as much as Rs 4,000 crore. Despite most of the farmers selling their food grains in Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and Prakasam districts, money hasn’t been credited to them,” wrote Naidu.

According to the TDP chief, pending dues to farmers in East and West Godavari districts alone amount to Rs 2,500 crore.

He said the state government has procured only 27.87 lakh MT of food grains until now, though it had promised to buy 45 lakh MT of food grains.

“Following a series of natural calamities, farmers are severely suffering and the pending dues are further troubling them,” said the southern state’s principal opposition leader.

Naidu alleged that the state government failed to pay crop insurance, release pending dues and buying food grains at minimum support price.

He claimed that during the TDP government, farmers used to get paid within 48 hours and alleged that the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government has extended the due date to 21 days.

Jagan ignoring filmi folks who backed during tough times?

1

Supporting YSRCP before 2019 was fraught with risks. In an industry dominated by powerful families, owning up and fighting for YSRCP is not an easy task. Even after Jagan’s victory in 2019 elections, it took a long time for the industry biggies to reconcile.

Several film personalities who have sided with Jagan while he was in the Opposition are still to get their due. They have not been suitably rewarded. While Pruthvi was made the SVBC chairperson, he floundered the golden opportunity. Vijayachander was given the post of film development corporation post. Roja, another film actress and TV personality, was given the AP Industrial Infrastructure Board chairperson’s post.

But, several film personalities are left behind. For instance, the Manchu family, which marital relation with the YS family has been waiting for some nominated post. Ditto with Jeevitha Rajasekhar. Similarly, writer-actor Posani Krishna Murali was a very vocal supporter of YS Jagan. He swam against the tide and backed YS Jagan like there’s no tomorrow. But, he is yet to get rewarded by YS Jagan. As a result, he has largely fallen silent.

One actor who defied the trend and swam against the current was comedian Ali. He too has not been suitably rewarded. Sources say that Ali is eyeing an MLC post or chairperson of some minority body. He had met key leaders of the YSRCP but to no avail. Party sources say that at least Posani and Ali should be rewarded for their efforts to promote the YSRCP. But, posts still seem to be a distant dream for them.

Andhra CM unveils annual credit plan outlay of Rs 2.8L cr

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday unveiled the state’s annual credit plan outlay of Rs 2.83 lakh crore during the 215th state level bankers’ committee (SLBC) meeting.

Out of the total credit plan, 54 per cent will be channeled into the agriculture sector with a target to disburse loans worth Rs 1.48 lakh crore. The state plans to provide Rs 2.13 lakh crore as loans to the primary sector.

Despite the imposition of curfew in view of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, Reddy said Andhra Pradesh crossed the stipulated target of loan disbursement and noted that 105 per cent of the target was achieved in priority sectors, including 114 per cent in agriculture sector.

Thanking the role of banks in achieving this growth rate, Reddy said, “They have exceeded the stipulated targets in loan disbursement.”

Meanwhile, Union Bank Chief Executive and Managing Director Raj Kiran Roy said the southern state has emerged as one of the top performing states in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for 2020, according to the rankings released by Niti Aayog.

“Banks should focus on supporting tenant farmers and providing services in RBKs,” said Roy, highlighting that for a target of Rs 1.87 lakh crore for the primary sector, Rs 1.96 lakh crore worth loans were disbursed.

Roy said the target for the agriculture sector was Rs 1.28 lakh crore while Rs 1.46 lakh crore loans were sanctioned.

Similarly, the MSME sector received loans worth Rs 40,312 crore, exceeding the target of Rs 39,600 crore, while the non-priority sector received Rs 60,652 crore worth loans compared to a target of Rs 60,050 crore.

The Union Bank chief also requested Reddy to prioritise vaccinating bank employees.

Jagan finally secures Governor’s nod to nominate 4 MLCs!

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Monday met Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan at Raj Bhavan.

The CM recommended names of four candidates for MLC posts to be nominated for AP Legislative Council under Governor’s quota for his approval.

The Governor approved the names recommended by Jagan.

Jagan nominated YSRCP leaders Lella Appi Reddy (Guntur), Thota Trimurthulu (East Godavari), Moshen Raju (West Godavari) and Ramesh Yadav (Kadapa).

Surprisingly, the file nominating these four leaders was sent to Raj Bhavan four days ago by CM for approval. But the governor put this file on hold.

With this, Jagan himself went to Raj Bhavan on Monday to pursue the issue with Governor. The Governor is learnt to have sought some clarifications on this issue and CM is learnt to have clarified them.

The Governor was satisfied with Jagan’s clarification and approved the nomination of four MLCs.

Is Jagan grooming young politicos for 2024?

1

Is the AP Chief Minister planning to have a young team for the 2024 elections? Is he trying to replace the old guard with the new guard so that he can have a free hand? Does he want a young team to gain complete control over the YSRCP and the government?

Look at the youngsters who are now being promoted in the party. Most of the senior politicians are slowly but surely grooming their children so that they would become the party candidates in the coming elections. Key minister in Jagan’s cabinet Botsa Satyanarayana is grooming his son Dr Sandip. His birthday was recently held and it became a launching pad politically. Ditto with Dharmana Krishna Das. This minister from North Andhra is promoting his son Krishna Chaitanya.

Another leader, who is actively promoting his son is Bandar MLA and minister Perni Nani. Nani’s son Kittu is already well-known to the party cadre in the constituency. He is known for micro-managing Nani’s affairs. Minister Jayaram’s son Eswar is being groomed in Aluru constituency. Srikalahasti MLA Biyypu Madhusudhana Reddy’s daughter Pavitha too is quite active in politics. She is involved in service activities in a big way. Currently, she is involved in Covid relief activities.

Kaikaluru MLA Doolam Nageswara Rao’s son Vinay and Ramachandrapuram MLA Thota Trimurtulu’s son Pruthviraj, former MLA Visweswar Reddy’s son Pranav Reddy are also being actively groomed. An interesting feature about the batch of the upcoming young leaders is that they are tech savvy and are active on social media. This will be of great help in the coming days when the elections are bound to be tech-driven.

For Jagan, this new team would be more easily manageable and he would emerge as the unquestioned king both in governance and in politics.

Andhra CM requests Centre to stop Vizag steel plant sale

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy met Union Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on the second day of his Delhi tour on Friday and requested him to stop the sale of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP).

Reddy appealed to Pradhan to consider the alternatives suggested by the state government earlier to revive the steel plant.

“Thirty two people have laid down their lives to set up the plant in Visakhapatnam where nearly 20,000 people are employed and thousands more are having indirect employment,” he said, emphasising the importance of the steel plant to the southern state.

According to Jagan Mohan Reddy, the VSP performed well between 2002 and 2015 raking in good profits but went through a rough patch after taking loans to expand, compounded by a slump in the international market.

“The organisation fell into debt with increasing operational costs and lack of own mines,” he said, highlighting that the plant is currently buying iron ore from NMDC Bailadila mines at a market price of Rs 5,260 per metric tonne (MT) of steel.

The Chief Minister said many of its competitors have captive mines for more than 60 per cent of their requirement and buy only the rest from NMDC while Steel Authority Of India Limited (SAIL) has its own captive mines with reserves of iron ore sufficient for another 200 years.

“This excess cost of iron ore has cost implications of more than Rs 3,472 crore for the plant and it is essential to have an allotment of captive mines in order to overcome the cost disadvantage,” said Reddy asking for the allotment of captive mines in Odisha which will help in reviving VSP.

The VSP is burdened with a debt of Rs 22,000 crore which is being repaid at a high interest rate of 14 per cent, prompting Reddy to suggest converting these loans into equity and listing the entity on the stock exchange.

Reddy said that these steps and monetising VSP’s 19,700 acre of land during this crisis would help in saving the steel plant.

The Chief Minister told Dharmendra Pradhan that the steel plant did yeoman service during the second wave of coronavirus by supplying more than 7,000 MT of oxygen, saving precious lives.

Similarly, he asked for reducing the viability gap funding (VGF) of Rs 975 crore per year from the state for the Kakinada Petro Complex promised as part of united Andhra Pradesh bifurcation.

Reddy said the detailed project reports (DPR) have been prepared for the special economic zone project by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and GAIL for the petro complex of 1 million metric ton at a cost of Rs 32,900 crore.

He informed Pradhan that members for the working group on behalf of the state government for the project have already been nominated and asked the Centre to issue immediate directions to start the project.
