TDP supports BJP demand for dismissal of Jagan Govt

TDP senior leader and MLC P. Ashok Babu on Monday advised YCP MP Vijayasai Reddy to sort out his problems within his own party rather than blaming the Opposition TDP with baseless allegations even in regard to defamatory social media posts against the judges. The AP Assembly should be put in a state of suspended animation considering the lack of control on the ‘chaotic rule’ of CM Jaganmohan Reddy. He reminded that even the Bharatiya Janata Party was demanding these days the outright dismissal of the YCP government for its multifarious failures.

The TDP MLC also demanded a CBI investigation into the derogatory social media posts and comments against judges of AP High Court and Supreme Court by the YCP activists, leaders and sympathizers. It is high objectionable that Vijayasai was talking in defense of his party leaders regardless of the fact that they made a serious mistake by passing personal comments against the judges.

Mr. Ashok Babu said that Mr. Vijayasai Reddy was no longer talking in his former authoritarian and highhanded voice which was raising further doubts whether he had slipped form his number two position in his party. From the position of behaving like a number 2 CM in the party, Vijayasai is now saying that he would continue in YCP and that he would look after the welfare of party social media activists. In that case, Vijayasai would be held responsible for all the defamatory posts being placed by YCP activists against opposition parties and even the courts.

The TDP asked YCP MP to explain why the opposition sympathizers were made to spend 15 to 20 days in jail for just making mild political comments like rice being distributed by the government is not good and the like. YCP allegations on SEC Ramesh Kumar will not stand in the courts. Ramesh Kumar was defending his own rights and never acted like a TDP activist whereas the DGP was behaving like a YCP activist for which the Government should give explanations to the people.

Jagan to meet Amit Shah, Vizag gas leak, SEC row on agenda

4

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will be meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Tuesday to discuss a host of issues, including the corona virus situation in AP, Vizag gas leak, row over appointment of new State Election Commissioner among others.

Jagan’s vist to New Delhi is first after nearly three months of complete lockdown. The meet assumes significance in the wake of several controversial decisions that the state government has taken in the recent times. It is learnt, that Amit Shah is likely to issues relating to removal of Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and appointing Kanaga Raju as State Election Commissioner.

Further, Amit Shah is also likely to take up the Jagan governments controversial abolition of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council (APLC), a move initiated to weaken the TDP from effectively stalling any legislation decisions of the State government as the ruling YSRCP has only nine of the 58 seats in the council while the TDP has 28 member.

The Vizag gas leak tragedy that has left at least 13 dead and hundreds of people hospitalised is also likely to figure in the discussions with the Union Home Minister. Jagan is likely to thank the central government for helping the LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd (LGPI) in shifting the Styrene gas from its plant in Visakhapatnam to South Korea. It is a different matter that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had ordered not to allow shifting of LG Polymers assets and machinery, amid reports that the South Korean firm has shifted styrene gas from its premises. The court sought to know who had permitted the company to shift the styrene gas from its storage tanks at the factory in Visakhapatnam to South Korea after the gas leak pending probe.

Amit Shah is likely to discuss the Covid-19 situation in Andhra Pradesh and the measures initiated by the state government to contain the spread of Coronavirus in light of several relaxations that triggered a spurt in the number of cases.

Jagan’s meeting with Amit Shah comes after the Home Minister’s recent call to enquire about the coronavirus situation in Andhra Pradesh which reported 101 fresh cases on Monday taking the tally to 3,272 with 59 deaths so far. With Corona unabated, Amit Shah discussed the complete lockdown measures and the situation in the state following certain relaxations announced by the state government to revive the spiralling economy. Jagan is expected to meet several top officials. On his part, Jagan is likely to take up request the Modi government to extend stimulus measures for various sectors, particularly manufacturing, to overcome the economic distress caused by the coronavirus pandemic and consequent lockdown.

Recently, Jagan dashed off a 10-page letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighting the contribution of different sectors to the state and the national economy and sought specific incentives to each of the sub-sectors, mainly the MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises).

Senani fires at YCP: Where have all those lorries of sand gone?

4

Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan launched a never-before attack on the Jaganmohan Reddy government. He emphatically said if the government doesn’t ensure availability of sand, the construction industry will remain in crisis and construction workers will face bigger problems.

Senani stressed the need for giving autonomy to the Construction Workers welfare organization so that it can use its funds for improvement of the workers’living conditions. Even in the lockdown crisis, no effort is made to help the workers using the welfare fund.

Pawan made a special attack on the government on the issue of illegal transportation of sand during lockdown. He said that though all other vehicles came to a standstill due to Coronavirus restrictions, thousands of lorries transported sand in Andhra Pradesh. But those lorries didn’t unload the sand at the stock points. The government should answer where all that sand has gone.

Senani told the Government to respond at least now as the middle class and lower middle class families are not able to construct their houses sheerly because of lack of easy accessibility of sand.

Jagan Govt playing cat and mouse game with AP High Court?

1

AP Government’s Advocate General has said Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar has illegally appointed himself as State Election Commissioner based on the High Court order. He says the restoration of Ramesh Kumar is left to the State government as per the court order. After this, State Election Commission Secretary has issued a statement withdrawing Ramesh Kumar taking charge as SEC. Now, the Government says since it is the implementing authority of the court orders, it can take its own sweet time to use its right of appeal in higher court. The Jagan Reddy regime has been displaying the same defiance against each and every High Court order. It was clear in respect of the YCP flag colours on Government buildings and also English medium in government schools.

The High Court gave a landmark, final judgement in Ramesh Kumar case. It has also termed appointment of SEC Kanagaraj as highly objectionable and untenable since it has dismissed the Ordinance concerned as unconstitutional. The High Court has listed out lots of points finding fault with the Government.

Advocates fraternity, opposition parties and civil society hailed the judgement as a victory for democracy and a slap for Jagan Reddy Government. All their enthusiasm was gone as once again AP Government defied High Court orders and caused removal of SEC Ramesh Kumar a second time. Analysts say Jagan Reddy regime is obviously playing a dangerous cat and mouse game with the judiciary. Especially, it is reversing each and every order of the High Court just as it has reversed all tenders and development and welfare of previous TDP rule.

Naidu calls Jagan’s rule one year of mass destruction

0

AP Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy may well assert that his government has fulfilled 90 per cent promises in the first year of its rule. He can claim that 77 of the total 129 promises made to the people were implemented. In the past one year, however, reverse and reverse tendering became the buzzwords both in the corridors of power and outside in the 365 days of Jagan’s government in Andhra Pradesh. Studies conducted by the Union commerce ministry, the World Bank and the National University of Singapore ranked Andhra Pradesh as India’s most business-friendly state for three successive years in 2016, 2017 and 2018. Jagan Reddy asserted that it would be through his Nava Ratnalu programme alone that the lives of poor could be uplifted. TDP president and former chief minister, however, dubbed Jagan’s rule as governance in reverse gear. “1 year of mass destruction,” he tweeted. Naidu made a blistering attack on Jagan’s governance saying it was at best “anti-development, retrogressive and regressive.

“The Andhra Pradesh government has lost all its credibility. This government has stalled the Amaravati capital city. It has affected farmers who had sacrificed their land for the project. Farmers are now protesting braving the heat and the lockdown. The retrogressive policies led to the flight of investments and industries from Andhra Pradesh leading to lack of job opportunities to youth. Power tariffs have been hiked. In the name of prohibition, the government has exorbitantly increased liquor prices and sold cheap liquor, brands that no one heard affecting people’s health.” The Jagan government stalled major projects like the Polavaram and a new state capital remained incomplete, and new taxes were imposed on the common people.

Telugu 360.com looks at Jagan’s Nine Blunders and HC’s Nine Jewels

What Jagan did or undid in last one year

The Nine Blunders

1) Imposed heavy financial burden on the people by hiking power tariff
2) Scraps the free sand policy and announced a new one which led to sand scarcity and construction workers suffered
3) Took Rs 80,000 crore loans in one year, not a single developmental project was implemented
Reviews and renegotiates PPAs entered into by the previous Naidu government
4) Does away with Amaravati capital city project, clears proposal to have three capitals – Vishakapatnam (executive), Amaravati (legislative) and Kurnool (judicial)
5) Withdraws 14 acres given to Lulu Group for a commercial complex in Vizag
6) Cancels Rs 3,217 cr contract awarded to Navayuga Engineering for a hydel power project
7) Scraps 4,731 acre land allotment to Navayuga group company for an SEZ in Nellore district
8) AP’s lifeline project of Polavaram has been stalled
9) Adani Group’s solar-powered data storage and technology park remains in a limbo, Lulu Group is not keen on fresh investments in AP, Reliance had once threatned to withdraw its investment proposal

AP has turned business unfriendly in the last one because of the hostile approach of Jagan towards companies and investments that had Naidu could attract to the state. Further, the one year rule has severely undermined the democratic institutions and subverted parliamentary democracy by his authoritarian rule. In the one year, Jagan and his team had to cut a sorry face in more than 60 legal disputes, which is a record set by any state government in losing court cases. The state government’s ordinance to remove Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner is a grim pointer to how Jagan and his team have tried to destroy constitutional bodies like the State Election Commission. Let us look at the important cases that AP government had lost in the High Court

Nava Ratnalu (Nine Jewels) from AP High Court

1) Ramesh Kumar was shunted out by the government by reducing the term of office for the SEC from five years to three through an ordinance. SC upheld SEC’s decision to put off elections. HC reinstates Ramesh Kumar as SEC
2) High Court served contempt notices on 99 people, including Bapatla MP Nandigam Suresh, former Chirala MLA Amanchi Krishna Mohan, Gudivada Amarnath, Sakshi senior journalists Kommineni Srinivasa Rao and Prasad Reddy
3) HC asks govt to remove party colours, YSRCP govt adds one more colour. The court served contempt notices against Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney and other top officilals for violating its directive to remove YSRCP colours on government buildings and panchayat offices
4) HC directed the CBI to probe the highhandedness of the police in arresting Dr Sudhakar Rao
5) The court also revoked the suspension orders against senior police officer A B Venkateswara Rao, directed the Jagan government to reinstate him
6) HC had struck down the government’s move to make English medium compulsory in government schools in AP
7) The HC directed the state government directed the CBI to probe the murder case of Jagan’s uncle Y S Vivekananda Reddy
8) The Jagan government lost its case on PPAs in HC. The court had ruled that the state cannot seek changes to an agreement signed between a distribution company and a developer
9) The court scrapped the GO to increase reservations to BCs, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the local bodies from 27% to 34%

77 out of 129 promises fulfilled: Jagan on his 1-year rule

3

AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has asserted that his Government has fulfilled 90 per cent promises in the first year of its rule. He said that 77 out of the total 129 promises made to the people at various phases have been implemented and another 35 promises are in the pipeline. Over Rs. 19,300 Cr was spent for giving benefits to 1.78 crore weaker sections families. Rs. 2,136 Cr was spent for tribal people’s welfare.

Jagan Reddy asserted that it would be through his Navaratnalu programme alone that the poor people’s lives would see a qualitative improvement in future. On the occasion of completion of his one year rule, the CM inaugurated 10,641 Rythu Bharosa Centres online from his Tadepalli residence today. The CM said systems were put in place to give benefits to people by depositing cash into their bank accounts.

The Chief Minister said that over 2,000 diseases were brought under the purview of YSR Arogyasri programme. Over 500 types of services were being provided to the people through Grama Secretariats. The YCP was committed to giving house sites to poor families but the TDP was putting hurdles in the process. The Opposition is creating problems for implementation of English medium schools.

Mr. Jagan Reddy said that while his government implemented 90 per cent promises, the previous TDP made 650 promises but did not implement even 10 per cent of that. Moreover, the TDP tried to concentrate all power from grama panchayat to state secretariat in its hands.

Jagan has no moral right to continue

0

The TDP has welcomed the High Court judgement reinstating SEC Ramesh Kumar, saying that it was a victory for the Constitution, for democracy and for ethical values in society. The Opposition party asserted that Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has no right to continue and he should step aside, owning moral responsibility for the debacle in the court.

TDP Politburo Member Varla Ramaiah said that the YCP Government’s multiple advisors should ponder over the latest blow and advise the Chief Minister to step down following the court’s disapproval of his action. He said that the High Court has saved democracy in AP and renewed people’s faith in the Constitution.

The TDP leader asserted that the YCP should no longer drag on the legal issue by going to the Supreme Court and focus on correcting its mistakes in the best interests of the people. CM Jagan should realise that he was insulting the Constitution and Dr. Ambedkar by trying to permanently remove a constitutionally appointed SEC. The YCP leaders including the Speaker of Assembly made lots of cheap comments against Ramesh Kumar but now they had to cut a sorry figure.

AP Government’s big offer for Tollywood

1

Most of the film shoots happen in and around Hyderabad. Most of the actors too reside in Hyderabad and Tollywood is well bonded with the government of Telangana. After the coronavirus outbreak, Tollywood celebrities met Telangana Chief Minister KCR and requested to grant the permissions for film shoots. It is during this time, the government of Andhra Pradesh too granted permission for shoots in public places and the premises of properties owned by the government of Andhra Pradesh at zero cost.

It is heard that AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is in plans to allocate lands in Vizag for film fraternity so that Vizag could be developed as a film hub. Chiranjeevi and YS Jagan even had a conversation over the phone recently and the discussion about Vizag happened. AP Government is also quite positive to allocate acres of lands for film studios in and around Vizag. Chiranjeevi along with some of the Tollywood celebrities are in plans to meet YS Jagan and chalk out plans utilizing the benefits offered by the government of Andhra Pradesh.

Jagan turned ‘Sunrise State’ into ‘Sunset State’: Nara Lokesh

4

TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh made a scathing attack on Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy calling him the ‘Don’ of the sand mafia, and accused him of being the root cause of the rampant corruption and land scams in the state.

Lokesh said the Jagan government had cancelled free sand policy in the state, a move to encourage sand mafia which has left lakhs of construction workers with no work. Sand scarcity in Andhra Pradesh was created by a sand mafia which was active with the full support of Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. “The man-made scarcity of sand has brought the construction activity in the state to a halt. Lokesh said several workers committed suicide as they were not finding the work in the absence of construction activity.

Further, Lokesh said Andhra Pradesh had lost major investments due to the unsavory decisions taken by the Jaganmohan Reddy’s government. With Jagan’s reverse tendering policies Andhra Pradesh has slipped into investment unfriendly state with major investors backing out of the projects entered into with the previous TDP government.

“Naidu succeeded in bringing in Kia Motors, the Isuzu and Ashok Leyland to the state in the hope of turning the state into a manufacturing hub. The Jagan government scared away big investors to Andhra Pradesh despite Andhra Pradesh having enormous potential for attracting domestic and foreign investments. Chandrababu Naidu garu took so much care to build AP into a ‘Sunrise State’ with his business friendly policies to attract global investors.

Sadly, the ‘Sunrise State’ under the TDP government has now turned into a Sunset State’. We brought the Kia Motors to Andhra Pradesh with great difficulties. The present government harassed the management of Kia Motors and subsqueently several accessories industries went away to other states. We could attract big investments from Foxconn, HCL, Kia Motors, Adani, Reliance. Today, Andhra Pradesh has become a ‘Sunset State’ because of the flawed polices and vendetta politics of the present government,” Lokesh hit out.

Adani Group’s solar-powered data storage and technology park remains in a limbo, United Arab Emirates-based conglomerate Lulu Group is not keen on fresh investments in Andhra Pradesh, while Reliance Group had once threatened to withdraw its investment proposal to build mega electronics manufacturing project in Tirupati.

Indonesia-based Asia Pulp & Paper, which entered into one of the biggest Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) agreements with the TDP government at that time, had backed out under the YSRCP government. After Jagan came to power on May 30, around Rs 55,000 crore worth of work commissioned by Naidu came to a grinding halt in Amaravati.

Turning his guns on YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Vijaysai Reddy, Lokesh said the A2 Sai Reddy has turned Visakhapatnam, often known as the ‘steel city’, into the ‘stolen city’. He said Vijaysai Reddy has eyed the prime lands in Vizag. He said Vijaysai Reddy was involved in Rs 1,000 crore land scam in Waltair and Daspalla Hills in Visakhapatnam.

Lokesh also pointed out there was largescale corruption in procurement of kits and masks to contain the spread of corona virus. He said the state government had procured rapid testing kits from South Korea at a cost higher than other states. The Andhra Pradesh government paid Rs 730 plus GST for each kit, while Chhatisgarh bought each kit for Rs 337 + GST. Further, he said the state government had made huge profits by selling masks at higher prices. “Substandard masks were procured at Rs 9 and were sold at Rs 30 each. The state government sold around 5 crore masks and profited by at least Rs 30 crore,” he pointed out.

Special Status will come, if not today, tomorrow: CM Jagan

3

In the face of mounting criticism, Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy has asserted that his government has taken active steps to hasten industrial development. Over 1,400 companies have come forward to invest Rs 11,549 Cr.

Jagan Reddy addressed a state-level meet on the AP industry scenario. He said that the state would have achieved greater development if the Special Status was conferred. However, the YCP would not behave like Chandrababu Naidu but it would continue to make its efforts. The Special Status would come, if not today, tomorrow.

CM Jagan asserted that the YCP could form a stable government in the state. With 22 MPs, the YCP occupied a fourth place in political parties positions at the national level. The CM said AP has got a 972 km coastline. The state has got excellent infrastructure and necessary support is being given to the industrialists including lands.

‘Chaotic and scary’: Yanamala on Jagan Reddy 1-year rule

0

Former Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu lashed out at the Jaganmohan Reddy government, saying that its 1-year rule not only undermined the Constitutional institutions in Andhra Pradesh but also defied the orders of the courts.

He said that the overall socio-economic and political situation in the state turned chaotic and scary as the YCP government was giving cash through welfare programmes but taking it back from the poor people in the form of taxes and forcible collections.

Mr. Ramakrishnudu, along with former Ministers Nimmakayala Chinarajappa, Ch. Ayyannapatudu and Nara Lokesh, paid tributes at NTR statue at the TDP Central Office on the occasion of 97th birthday celebrations of party founder NT Rama Rao on Thursday. It coincided with the second and final day of Digital Mahanadu conclave today.

Speaking on the occasion, the Opposition Leader in AP Council said that CM Jagan Reddy’s decisions and policies were in the nature of causing disrespect to the courts and institutions.

Mr. Chinarajappa said that the YCP has no respect for the rule of law and it was objectionable on the part of the ruling party to instruct the Director General of Police to act with bias and unilaterally in favour of their party. The State is facing serious problems because of the CM’s indifferent attitude towards the courts.

Mr. Ayyannapatrudu said that the future generations of Andhra Pradesh would lose heavily if the YCP rule continued to ignore the state development and progress. Recalling the greatness of NTR, he said that it was thanks to the party founder that many leaders like him were able to rise to higher positions in their careers.

Jagan Govt goes to Supreme Court on Panchayat colours

The AP High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against Chief Secretary and Panchayati Raj Principal Secretary and Commissioner on the issue of removal of YCP flag colours from Panchayat buildings. The contempt would come into force if the officials do not get the colours removed by May 28. The deadline is only today but there is no indication that the Government is going to comply with the High Court orders. Colours are not being changed on government buildings. Now, the latest report is that the Jagan Reddy Government has approached the Supreme Court against the HC orders.

The colours case of AP is coming for arguments in the Apex Court today. Interestingly, the case is coming up for hearing on a day which is cited as the deadline for going ahead with the contempt proceedings against the top officials. Legal experts say the AP Government seems to be heading for a protracted litigation involving its contentious policies. The State is already financially crisis-ridden. But still, the Chief Minister and his Ministers are putting their political agenda above economy and public health. Jagan Reddy is adopting the same adamant line on the issue of English medium in Government schools. Analysts say that no public issue gets resolved easily if Government continues litigation and the remaining four years will pass in no time for addressing major people’s problems.

TTD, Jagan govt dragged to High Court over auction of temple assets

0

The proposed auction of temple assets by Tirmuala Tirupati Devasthanam trust board does not seem to die down anytime soon. Despite the Jagan government issuing a GO to halt the auction of TTD assets, the issue has now landed in the High Court. A legal battle has started brewing in Andhra Pradesh High Court over the proposed sale of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) properties in Tamil Nadu.

A petition was filed in the AP High Court on Tuesday directing the court to halt the auction of 50 TTD assets in Tamil Nadu. TTD, which manages the affairs of Sri Venkateswara temple, has decided to auction 50 properties situated in various parts of Tamil Nadu, mainly in Kanchipuram, Vellore and Tirutani.

On Tuesday, the petitioner Amarnath through his counsel appealed to the High Court to set up a judicial committee to provide constitutional protection to safeguard temple properties. Further, the petitioner appealed to the court to notify the movable and immovable assets of TTD. The petitioner contended that auction of TTD assets will denude the temples of their properties and any act that involves loss of properties of the temples for the purposes other than those intended for the benefit or necessity of the temples will hurt the sentiments of the Hindu devotees. The petitioner has impleaded Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney, endowments special secretary and TTD executive officer in the case.

The petitioner argued that these assets were gifted to the TTD by devotees of Lord Balaji and the government has no right to sell them under the pretext of the properties being untenable and non-remunerative. On Saturday, the TTD trust board had set up two committees to sell what it calls ”unviable and not maintainable” properties in Tamil Nadu through public auction.

The properties which are proposed to go for auction are agriculture lands, houses, house sites and vacant lands gifted by devotees.

TTD chairman Y V Subba Reddy, who is also Jagan Mohan Reddy’s maternal uncle, initially stated that the TTD has decided to auction 50 immovable properties in AP and Tamil Nadu which are unviable, not useful and prone to encroachment so as per Rule 165 of Chapter -XXII issued in government order (GO) Ms No.311, Revenue (Endowment 1) Department, dated 09-04-1990. The TTD Board is competent to sell, exchange and mortgage are immovable properties if found beneficial to TTD.” However, on Monday Y V Subba Reddy in a U-turn said the TTD has not decided to auction the properties but was only mulling a roadmap on the modalities of which lands can be auctioned, upset price and other related issues.

“The government will do everything to protect the temple properties and will always work in the service of God. The TTD meeting was held on Saturday to discuss on how to protect these properties. Further, Subba Reddy said the practice of selling immovable and non-maintainable properties has been in vogue since 1974.”Around 129 such properties were disposed of between 1974 and 2014,” he said. It was at the board meeting held on July 28, 2015, headed by the then chairman Chadalawada Krishnamurthy that resolution No.84 was passed to form a sub-committee to study the prospects of auctioning such properties. The meeting on January 30, 2016, gave the nod to the sub-committee’s proposal to dispose of 50 such properties that ranged between one cent and five cents. tucked away from the mainland and thus difficult to monitor and maintain. “This board only continued the process. The State government has nothing to do with the TTD’s decision,” Subba Reddy said.

“We have only set up committees to draw a roadmap on which assets to be auctioned, the upset price and other issues. The assets are mostly in Vellore, Kanchipuram, Tirutani and other far -off locations in Tamil Nadu. The agricultural lands in these areas do not exceed more than one acre or two acres, while house sites are in the range of 1 cent, 2 cent, 3 cents or maximum 5 cents. It is difficult to protect these properties. There is a possibility of encroachment. In such a scenario, the TTD held a meeting to discuss a roadmap on how to protect these properties without hurting the sentiments of the devotees. We have not issued any orders for auctioning the properties.” The TTD chairman said the trust board will again meet to review the whole issue and announce its decision.

Subramanian Swamy calls Jagan a Christian CM

7

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam’s (TTD) move to auction temple assets in Tamil Nadu refuses to die down despite the Jagan government issuing a GO to halt the proposed selling of 50 TTD properties.

On Tuesday, while BJP leaders sat on hunger strike in New Delhi accusing the ruling YSR Congress Party in Andhra Pradesh was trying to hive off temple assets that it doesn’t own, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy came under sharp criticism from Subramanian Swamy. The BJP Rajya Sabha MP took to his Twitter handle to vent his anger against auctioning of temple assets. Subramanian Swamy in his tweet alleged that the AP CM wants to make Andhra Pradesh into a Christian state. “If a Christian CM can be responsive to Hindus’ vociferous demand on Tirupati land auction but a Hindu CM takes over all the temples in the State and appoints himself as Chairman, has Hindutva gone off the rails,” Subramanian Swamy tweeted.

Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha MP G V L Narasimha Rao and Sunil Deodhar, the party’s national secretary co-in-charge of Andhra Pradesh, sat on hunger strike, demanding that the government bring an ordinance that all assets of temples and mutts under the state government will not be auctioned, and the details of the properties, land, money and other assets should be made public. The BJP leaders have vowed to fight tooth and nail against the TTD’s move to sell temple assets. They said they will launch a public agitatation against the government’s decisions to divest assets of Hindu temples. Talking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Sunil Deodhar said Jagan “came, saw and grabbed. The state government is not the owner of temple properties. It has no right to sell these assets.” He also took to his Twitter handle to express his outrage against the TTD’s move, “All activists of @BJP4Andhra & @JanaSenaParty are on fast from 9am to 5pm today. Joining them from the house of @GVLNRAO in Delhi. We demanded an ordinance from @ysjagan gov that would prevent present & future govts in AP in selling temple land & properties,” Deodhar tweeted.

On Tuesday, BJP state president Kanna Laxminarayana who sat on hunger strike in Guntur accused the Jagan government of usurping the temple assets. He said after attempting to sell Mangalagiri and Annavaram temple lands, the Andhra Pradesh government has not set its eyes on Tirumala properties. Further, he alleged that ever since Jagan Mohan Reddy has become AP Chief Minister, he has opened the treasury of the state to the Christian community, with an eye on encouraging conversion activities. “The GO halting the auction of TTD assets is just a political ploy, a tactic to mislead Hindu devotees,” Kanna said.

The proposed sale of temple assets snowballed into a major controversy, which has drawn the attention of national BJP leaders. On Sunday, Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha, who is also a special invitee to the TTD Trust Board, dashed off a letter to Y V Subba Reddy asking the TTDP chairman to revisit the decision and desist from the idea of selling TTD assets donated by the devotees with “huge sentiments attached to these properties.” In the letter, Rakesh Sinha said the sale of assets will hurt the sentiments of crores of Hindu devotees across the world. Y V Subba Reddy on Sunday tweeted back to Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha. “TTD, since 1974, has been monetizing lands which are hard to manage and splintered across the country. TTD monetizes lands only when there is no possibility of making them spiritually viable and manageable for the organization. These lands are of small sizes like 4 to 10 cents where no development is possible. This is NOT an AP Govt. decision. Successive TTD trust board’s in the past have established the procedures to monetize unviable lands. The present trust board is only following the established norms of previous trust boards without any deviations. Eventually we want to safeguard the donor devotees generous contributions to the TTD either in the form of land or corpus.”@RakeshSinha01 The Jagan government’s GO comes a day after Rajya Sabha MP Rakesh Sinha letter to Y V Subba Reddy.

On Monday, Bandi Sanjay Kumar took to his Twitter handle to take on both the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments. He said the Jagan government was trying to turn Andhra Pradesh into the fiefdom of Christianity while the KCR government was turning Telangana into Muslim kingdom. “We will protect Hindu temples from these rulers and dig the political grave of these political parties,” Bandi Sanjay tweeted Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan on Monday decried the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) move to sell Srivari properties and demanded that the Jagan sarkar withdraw its decision immediately. Pawan Kalyan in his tweeted noted that the movable and immovable assets were donated by devotees in South and North India to Lord Venkateswara and that the TTD has only insulted and hurt the sentiments of the devotees who donated the properties by calling the assets as non-remunerative. “Devotees have donated house sites, agricultural lands and buildings. The TTD has insulted the devotees by calling these assets as non-remunerative. The devotees donated the properties for Hindu religious purposes and to ensure service to the Lord, and not to the State government to sell the assets. The properties donated by the devotees should serve the devotees and pilgrims coming to the Lord’s abode. The TTD’s argument that it cannot protect properties located at far-off places and that they are non-remunerative, and hence the decision to sell them, does not go well with the Hindu devotees. I fail to understand why the TTD, which has a ‘Estate wing, has decided to auction the assets. There is no dearth of funds to run the affairs of the temple administration. The interest earned on the temple deposits is enough to run the temple administration,” Pawan Kalyan tweeted

The Andhra Pradesh government developled cold feet with outpour of anger and anguish from several quarters, including political and religious. Soon enough, the Jagan government on Monday had isued a GO to halt the auction of TTD assets. In the a GO (No 888), the state government noted that it has nullified an earlier GO issued on January 30, 2016 to dispose of 50 TTD properties. Further, the government had asked the TTD to stop any move to auction the temple assets in Tamil Nadu or in other parts of the country. Additionally, the Jagan government had asked TTD to consult Hindu religious leaders and Hindu devotees in matters related to Tirumala. The state government also directed the TTD to review its decision taking into consideration the sentiments of crores of Hindu devotees. “Keeping in view the sentiments of devotees, the government hereby direct TTD to reexamine the issue in consultation with different stakeholders like religious elders, opinion makers, section of devotees etc. to ascertain whether these properties can be used by TTD for construction of temples, dharma pracharam and other religious activities,” the GO noted. “Till the finalization of the matter stated above, the proposed disposal of 50 properties by TTD is hereby kept in abeyance,” the GO noted. The executive officer, TTD, was asked to submit a compliance report immediately. The issue has snowballed into a major controversy with the central BJP leadership visibly miffed with the TTD’s move to auction the temple assets in Tamil Nadu.

On Monday, Y V Subba Reddy said the Opposition parties were politicizing the issue and trying to throw muck at the YSRCP government by making a mole out of mountain hill. After deciding to sell off the temple assets at a meeting held on Saturday, Y V Subba Reddy in a complete U-turn said, “The government will do everything to protect the temple properties and will always work in the service of God. The TTD meeting was held on Saturday to discuss on how to protect these properties. The YSRCP government sees no reason why the temple assets should be auctioned.” Subba Reddy said the practice of selling immovable and non-maintainable properties has been in vogue since 1974.”Around 129 such properties were disposed of between 1974 and 2014,” he said. The agricultural lands in these areas do not exceed more than one acre or two acres, while other assets are in the range of 1 cent, 2 cent, 3 cents or maximum 5 cents of land. It is difficult to protect these properties. There is a possibility of encroachment. In such a scenario, the TTD held a meeting to discuss a roadmap on how to protect these properties without hurting the sentiments of the devotees. We have not issued any orders for auctioning the properties. We will not do anything that would hurt the sentiments of the devotees. The TTD chairman said the trust board will again meet to review the whole issue and announce its decision. The TTD’s move to auction has sparked off a political row. The sentiments of Hindu devotees were deeply hurt by the decision.

Jagan Cash Transfer: Rs 5,000 for Archakas, Pastors, Imams, Moezzins

0

With one click from his Camp Office today, Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is going to distribute online Rs. 5,000 each directly into the banks of Archakas, Pastors, Imams and Moezzins. This is being given to rescue these people associated with places of worship from the Coronavirus lockdown impact. Accordingly, the Government has already sanctioned Rs. 38 Cr from the funds of the Disaster Management department.

With this, the Rs. 5,000 benefit would reach nearly 70,000 people. There are about 31,000 Archakas, 29,850 Pastors and over 7,000 Imams and Moezzins in the State. The officials have made all arrangements for online deposit of cash into their bank accounts directly with one click on the screen by the Chief Minister.

Actually, the Cash Transfer to these sections was one of the Padayatra promises made by Jaganmohan Reddy prior to the last elections. But the Government has now taken the epidemic situation as an opportunity to pass on the benefit immediately. During the lockdown, the temples, mosques and churches have remained closed for all practical purposes. Especially, those at smaller places of worship are struggling for lack of incomes. Against this backdrop, the Government says its latest Cash Benefit drive would greatly solve the problems of Archakas and Pastors and Imams.

One year Jagan’s rule: Investors scared, courts defied, media muzzled, rights violated

0

2019 was a momentous year for YSRCP and the party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who swept to power with an unwavering mandate of 151 Assembly seats.

The first year of Jagan has been full of duds — a crippling state economy, which his government has struggled to tackle, no big-bang welfare measures, no employment creation, no marquee policy initiatives to capture any segment’s imagination.

In the manifesto, Jagan promised that his government will address the issue of unemployment, but the YSRCP dispensation had failed to attract any major investments or big investor to Andhra Pradesh despite the state having enormous potential for attracting domestic and foreign investments. On the contrary, Jagan had scared away big investors with a slew of policy decisions which were driven largely by political vendetta against his bete noire former chief minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu rather than political wisdom. Adani Group’s solar-powered data storage and technology park remains in a limbo, United Arab Emirates-based conglomerate Lulu Group is not keen on fresh investments in Andhra Pradesh, while Reliance Group had once threatned to withdraw its investment proposal to build mega electronics manufacturing project in Tirupati.

Ambassadors France, Canada Japan and some renewable energy developers had taken up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising concerns over Andhra Pradesh government’s move to reverse some big contracts entered into by the previous TDP regime. “Many foreign investors, including Japanese companies, are now watching closely the situation unfolding in your state regarding the renewable energy sector,” Japanese ambassador to India Kenji Hiramatsu wrote to Jagan in August last year. Hiramatsu only reflects the fear of many big investors.

However, to score political brownie points, Jagan had undid the good work done by Naidu to promte AP as ‘sunrise state’ by cancelling contracts for key projects sanctioned during the previous TDP government, put on hold works related to Amaravati capital city project, several irrigation and infrastructure sectors were halted hurting the investor confidence.

The one year rule has severely undermined the democratic institutions and subverted parliamentary democracy by his authoritarian rule. In the one year, the Jagan government was caught in a vortex of legal disputes. Jagan and his team had to cut a sorry face in more than 60 legal disputes, which is a record set by any state government in losing court cases. The state government’s ordinance to remove Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as State Election Commissioner is a grim pointer to how Jagan and his team have tried to destroy constitutional bodies like the State Election Commission.

The one year YSRCP governance has been disastrous on many fronts — exposing Jagan and his cabinet’s hollow governance abilities and their complete lack of grasp on the economy. None of the big promises were honoured. Jagan and his team clearly seemed out of their depth in the face of the slowdown and inability to attract investments. The corona virus pandemic crisis has gone horribly wrong with the state administration dealing with it ineffectively.

In the one year, Jagan’s government has had to face setbacks in the High Court. In what is being regarded as a knock-out punch on the face of Jagan’s government, the High Court started contempt proceedings for violating the court directive to remove colours on government buildings and panchayat offices. The High Court had struck down the government’s move to make English medium compulsory in government schools in AP, scrapped the GO to increase reservations to BCs, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the local bodies from 27% to 34%. Further, the High Court had revoked the suspension orders against senior police officer A B Venkateswara Rao and directed the Jagan government to reinstate him. All these court verdicts and the immediate reaction from the state government implies Jagan and his team lack respect for courts. In most cases, the government exhibited its defiant mode.

In the one year, the Andhra Pradesh police, Central Investigation Department (CID) and the bureaucracy have been politicised and the judiciary plunged into the most existential threat. The one year Jagan’s rule is also an attack on human rights.

Senior doctor Sudhakar Rao is a classic example of how rights are being brazenly violated in AP. Sudhakar Rao, the civil assistant surgeon of Narsipatnam area hospital, was suspended for raising voice of dissent regarding the shortage of masks and other medical equipment like PPEs in government hospitals. He was later detained by the police for allegedly causing nuisance on a main road in Visakhapatnam and was sent to Government Hospital for Mental Health, where he was under treatment for acute and transient psychosis. Dr Sudhakar Rao was dragged on the streets, his shirt removed, his both hands tied with a rope while a constable repeatedly delivered blows with his lathi. Journalists and media houses who refuse to toe the line of the YSRCP regime have been harassed.

In the coming years. we’ll see how the struggle between the Jagan’s authoritarian tendencies and the strength of independent democratic institutions and constitutional authorities that protect the rule of law plays out.

Jagan summer heat stroke leaves power consumers speecless

2

This is the twelfth month that CM Jaganmohan Reddy has come to power in Andhra Pradesh. There was no big hue and cry over rise in power bills till last month. Why have the bills seen such steep, illogical hike after eleven months of Jagan rule? The common man is now confused. Even the same poorer sections are unable to cope with reality how they also got Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000 bills this month. What little Coronavirus relief they are getting is going back to the Government in the forms of power bills now.

Then, questions are being asked why the YSRCP chose to introduce a new system of billing exactly during the onset of summer. Even uneducated and illiterate persons know consumption goes up in hot summer months. Even poorest of poor use fans. They also watch TV more because they stay at home longer due to hot temperatures. Jagan Govt gave a timely blow to these sections. They are asking how can they pay at a time when they are already suffering due to lack of incomes in Coronavirus lockdowns.

On the other hand, the Government is going ahead with its own mission to overcome serious financial crunch. Moreover, YSRCP is not getting expected support from the Centre either. Analysts say AP voters have to contend with reality which is more taxes, higher RTC fares and higher current in some form or other.

CM Jagan votebank agenda continues despite setbacks?

2

The Jaganmohan Reddy Government has drawn negative comments from the courts in over 56 cases so far. The National Green Tribunal has also begun finding fault on LG Polymers, Pothireddypadu, etc. Even the victims of gas tragedy are complaining that they were given invalid cheques towards Rs. 1 Cr compensation for death of their family members. Lots of criticism is emerging in such aspects but CM Jagan is going ahead with his own conviction in a votebank-centric political agenda. The stay order by National Green Tribunal was indeed a setback to Pothireddypadu expansion project. But the YSRCP is thinking its political purpose has been served already. Simply, it is like the mission accomplished. The masses in Rayalaseema region are of the view that like YSR, Jagan Reddy is looking after their water needs.

The ruling party mouthpiece Sakshi is also pumping this agenda constantly and with a repeated emphasis. The experts especially those with legal knowledge are viewing all this with a little scepticism. The major concern is how long this kind of open confrontation and legal litigation can continue. Where this kind of approach would lead the state to eventually? For good or for bad, CM Jagan has not got ample opportunities so far to prove whether he can deliver better than his experienced predecessors. He began with demolitions and cancellations, but soon got stuck in the Coronavirus lockdowns and now facing unforeseen financial crisis. Time is running out for the CM to convert setbacks into opportunities not just for his party but also for the people of the state as a whole.

Arrogance of power has blinded CM Jagan, says Naidu

1

AP Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday said that Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy was not to take criticism in a positive way because he was being blinded by the arrogance of power.

Mr Naidu strongly objected to the CID issuing notice to an elderly woman in Guntur for her social media post.

In a Twitter message here, the TDP Chief said: “A 66-yr-old elderly woman who spoke out against @ysjagan on social media has been served notice by CID. Power is blinding the CM and his ability to take criticism. One day fate will turn its back and all this arrogance will come crashing down.”

Mr Naidu issues this tweet under the hashtag – #SupportRanganayakiMadam. The TDP has taken up a massive social media campaign to expose the YSRCP Government’s vengeful and undemocratic action against a senior woman citizen who only shared a social media post.
