Opinion : Civic body elections exposed Jagan’s weakness ?

The State Election Commission’s decision to postpone the civic body elections in Andhra Pradesh, mired in widespread violence allegedly by the ruling party against the opposition, followed by the sharp criticism bordering on personal attacks against the election commissioner by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and his colleagues once again raises questions over the autonomy of the election commission.

The SEC deferred the civic body elections by six weeks in view of the corona virus scare, but Jagan and his colleagues were quick to react in attributing caste motives to the chair of the election commission. Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar was appointed as State Election Commissioner during the TDP regime when N Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister, both belong to the same social community. Therefore, Speaker Tamineni Sitaram at a press conference said this was not corona virus, rather Kammona (read Kamma) virus.

The CM lodged his protest with Governor Bishwa Bhushan and alleged that Ramesh Kumar was favouring a particular community and political party. On his party, Ramesh Kumar had a 45 minute detailed discussions with the governor explaining the factors that led to the postponement of elections, the primary being corona and violence in AP.

Elections were deferred without consulting the state government, accused Jagan. This, according to the opposition, seems to have hurt the enormous fragile ego of the chief minister. On his part, Ramesh Kumar noted that polls were deferred after consultations with the central government and health functionaries. The YSRCP moved the Supreme Court challenging the SEC move to postpone elections which upheld the decision of the election commission.

The chief minister, at a press conference, stated that corona virus was not a big threat and prescribed paracetamol. TDP president Chandrababu Naidu slammed Jagan for taking the virus too casual and accused the chief minister of having an inflated ego. Instead of lamenting SEC’s decision, the YSRCP government should examine its own role in undermining democracy, Naidu gave his piece of mind.

Soon enough, the 2020 civic body election has come under the scanner of the Modi government and the Supreme Court in the wake of incidents involving a breach of the Model Code of Conduct allegedly by the ruling party. Four BJP MPs met Union Home Minister Amit Shah alleging widespread violence, attacks by YSR Congress cadres on Opposition party candidates to prevent them from filing nominations instances, instances of breach of the Model Code of Conduct by the ruling party. Ramesh Kumar had written a letter to the Union Home Secretary requesting the Centre to provide him central police force security cover, saying he apprehends threat to his life and that of his family members. The SEC ordered the transfer of district collectors and SPs in places that saw violence.

It is too early to say what these elections might portend but they are already fuelling anxieties among the political parties and the electorate about the future of Andhra Pradesh. The elections exposed the friction between the state government and the SEC, a constitutional body.

The government in power should not make attempts to weaken the autonomy of institutions like the election commission as per its whims and fancies in order to obtain political gains. There is no harm in fighting for power, but it should only be done through democratic process without hurting the morale of institutions such as the election commission. Any attempt to weaken the EC results in the electorate losing faith in the very fundamental structure of the democratic system. These institutions are the pillars which keep the soul of the democracy alive, their independence give a sense hope to the citizens, that their interest will not be compromised for the sake of anyone’s political ambition.

In order to reinstate the faith in these institutions, urgent reforms are the need of the hour. The EC must be made more independent in its functioning and its autonomy should not be compromised for the sake of any individual or political party at any point of time. For instance, the appointment or the removal of top officials governing institutions like the EC should be done judiciously and with utmost transparency. Their appointment or removal should include only the prominent persons and should also have the representation of every democratic body; such as the government and the opposition as well. The ruling dispensations across the country should know that they cannot ride roughshod over institutions like the EC and the heads of the states should not harbor ‘my way or highway’ mindset. Brazen and brash attitude will never be liked by the electorate who will wait for their chance when it comes during the election time.

Jagan, Gautam Sawang meet over SEC Ramesh Kumar’s letter

0

YSRCP president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday is holding a meeting with state DGP Gautam Sawang to discuss the contents of state election commissioner Ramesh Kumar letter to Union Home Secretary.

On Wednesday, Ramesh Kumar had written a letter to the Union Home Secretary requesting the Centre to provide him central police force security cover, saying he apprehends threat to his life and that of his family members.

In a five-page letter to the Union Home Secretary, the SEC alleged constant intimidation and physical threats from the ruling YSR Congress party following his decision to put off elections to rural and urban local bodies for six weeks in view of coronavirus scare.

In the run up to the elections to local bodies, Ramesh Kumar noted that there were widespread incidents of violence perpetrated by the ruling dispensation against the opposition parties, mainly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jana Sena workers and activists right in the presence of the police. “The State had witnessed unprecedented violence and intimidation by the ruling party with the active connivance of police personnel as alleged by all the opposition parties big and small in one voice,” he wrote

There were about 35 incidents of prevention of nominations, 23 incidents of forceful withdrawals and 55 instances of violence targeting the principal opposition parties, mainly the Telugu Desam Party and the BJP-Janasena combine. “The norms of peaceful and orderly conduct of elections were completely vitiated,” he wrote.

The violence was further heighted after Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy issued a diktat to his ministers that they will be stripped of their berths and MLAs will be denied tickets if the YSRCP were to lose the civic body elections. “This had spurred the Ministers, MLAs and party cadres into frenzy and indulge in large scale violence and intimidation indulged with impunity and widely captured both in electronic and print media leaving the citizens aghast,” the election commissioner wrote in his letter.

Jagan shifting Secretariat despite election uncertainties?

AP Secretariat Employees Association President Venkatarami Reddy has told the employees to get ready to shift Secretariat offices to Vizag by the end of May. This has taken the employees and officers by surprise. The sudden statement of Reddy came at a time when Supreme Court upheld postponement of elections. Actually, Jagan Circar planned to shift Capital wholesale after crushing opposition parties by winning 90 per cent of local bodies. But the scene has reversed now.
It is not known when the local body elections will be re-started. That will mostly depend on the control of corona virus outbreak in the country and in the state. As of now, elections cannot be held till March 31 considering restrictions on social gatherings imposed by Centre.

Moreover, Supreme Court asked SEC to implement code for four weeks before polling day. It means the completion of local polls in AP will not be possible till after May. Regardless of these uncertainties, Jagan has decided to shift Secretariat by May end. For him, time is running out considering spate of court cases filed by Amaravati farmers and opposition parties. Now in AP, it is all like walking in pathless forests.

Jagan! Where are your ‘preachings’ on defections?

0

When YS Jaganmohan Reddy delivered ‘preachings’ against defections in the AP Legislative Assembly for the first time in his capacity as the Chief Minister last year, everyone wondered and puzzled, whether it was real.

Jagan had stated that if he desired, he can empty TDP in Assembly by engineering defection of TDP MLAs but he will not do that because if he does that, there will be no difference between Chandrababu Naidu and him.

Jagan went on to say that anyone who wants to join YSRCP from other parties, they should first tender resignation to their MLA, MLC, MP posts and then only they will be admitted into YSRCP.

But it didn’t took many months for Jagan to take “U turn” on his stand on defections.

He openly admitted TDP MLAs and and MLC into YSRCP though they did not resign to their posts.

Despite this, YSRCP leaders defended Jagan saying that TDP MLAs, MLC had only met Jagan for their constituency development and Jagan did not admit they by offering YSRCP khanduvas like KCR did in Telangana.

However, on Wednesday, Jagan even flouted this rule and admitted TDP MLC Samantakamani by offering YSRCP khanduva though she did not resign to her MLC post got on TDP ticket.

With this immoral act, Jagan proved that he is no different from any other politician.

He also proved that he only gave ‘build up’ in the Assembly by making tall claims against defections earlier and but in reality, he is totally the opposite.

Jagan also proved that preachings are meant only for others but not to follow by the ones, who preach them.

Naidu and Pawan tell Jagan to shed his ego

0

Ex CM Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan gave a strong advice to AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy. While Naidu accused Jagan Circar of suppressing details of corona virus cases, Senani said that YCP is putting politics above public health. They demanded that the government should give its first priority to the corona virus preventive measures and awareness drives in the state. Now is not a time for ego issues. The ruling YCP is downplaying the importance of taking public health safety measures. That is obviously because Jagan Reddy’s immediate focus is on his political mission. It is not correct to do politics on public health at a time when the whole world is being shaken and greatly worried about rapid spread of the pandemic.

Senani’s advice came amidst widespread comments that Jagan is not taking steps for AP people’s safety while other states are closing schools and public contact points. The all opposition attack is coming as a big concern. On the other hand, YCP announced closure of schools as a preventive measure. This is too after the Supreme Court shock to CM Jagan on local body elections. The opposition leaders say that eyewash measures are not enough but the government should conduct an awareness drive as a mission.

Jagan govt wakes up, shuts schools over corona scare

0

Days after several governments have shut down schools across the country, YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy seems to have finally woken up.

The chief minister, who dismissed corona virus as not a big threat as it is being made to be and prescribed paracetamol as an anti-dote for the dreaded virus, has finally decided to shut all educational institutions including schools and colleges in the state.

Jagan, it may be recalled, said that the coronavirus could be lethal for people suffering from asthama, blood pressure and kidney diseases. “In case anybody coming from other countries is found suffering from cold, cough and fever, bleaching powder should be sprayed on their belongings and things they use,” he said at a hurriedly held press conference soon after the SEC postponed civic body elections in Andhra Pradesh.

His counterpart in Telangana K Chandrasekhara Rao had already announced various measures to contain and tackle the spread of the virus with Telangana reporting six cases so far. The Telangana government had closed schools, colleges, malls, cinema halls as a precautionary measure to contain and tackle the spread of virus.

The total coronavirus positive cases in India has climbed to 153, which includes 25 foreign nationals and three persons who died in Delhi, Karnataka and Maharashtra.

Public pressure mounting on Jagan to close schools

0

AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy sticks to his decisions without caring for anything. He gives top most importance to loyalties of all sorts. Now, the question is arising whether Jagan Reddy is also adamantly loyal to his ego. Political analysts are asking whether the rumours are true that Jagan has set aside to a proposal from the bureaucrats for closure of schools and educational institutions temporarily. If this is real, then Jagan Circar has to do a lot of explaining to the people in the coming days.

Not for nothing, even parents’ associations are demanding closure of schools. Anything related to school children is undoubtedly sensitive. Already, in Telangana and other states, holidays are announced for two to three weeks. Even ISB in Hyderabad suspended classes and began online courses for its students. All Central Government educational institutes have closed down temporarily. Some private schools are ready to voluntarily close for students safety but they are fearing harassment from the government if they go against its decisions. Really, a very tricky situation is confronting Jagan regime.

Is Jagan Circar infected with reverse virus?

The Jaganmohan Reddy government has become known for its re-tenderings and for its turning all decisions of previous Chandrababu Naidu rule upside down in the past 10 months. Even the national media has put out negative articles calling it as Jagan reverse rule on PPAs, Polaravara, Amaravati, etc. Now, at a very critical time, when the whole world is extremely agitated, Jagan Circar is saying there is no corona threat to AP in the next three to four weeks. Interestingly, even this argument is totally contrary what the world and national level organisations are saying.

Union Health Ministry has issued health advisory asking citizens in the country to avoid social gatherings and high public contact places till March 31. But, Jagan government wants elections to be completed before March 31. While all other states are closing down schools and cinema halls till March-end, AP Chief Secretary Nilam Sawhney says that there is no big threat in the next three to four weeks. All CMs and their Ministers in other states are creating awareness on threat from corona virus. But, Jagan, his Ministers and his bureaucrats are educating public on absence of any threat from corona virus. Now, analysts are asking whether these are not symptoms of a reverse virus that has infected Jagan Circar.

The politics of pandemic: Jagan sees caste in corona

Corona virus sees no religion; it is neither casteist, sexist or regional supremacist. One that the global virus has proved is that it makes no difference who you are. It doesn’t spare if one is a Hollywood celebrity, sporting star or a religious leader, a priest or a politician. It has no concern for economy or stock markets. Well, it shows no respect to royalty, even if the person in question is Britian’s mighty Queen Elizabeth II or the world’s most powerful man Donald Trump. The pandemic shows no mercy – Prince or pauper.

Senior Iranian politician Hossein Sheikholeslam has died of the coronavirus, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau was tested positive. The list seems long: Hollywood’s most celebrated couple Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson, Italian politician Nicola Zingaretti, Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi, Spanish head coach Mikel Artera, Utah Jazz NBA player Rudy Gobert has confirmed he has Covid-19. The virus pandemic has chased 93-year-old Queen Elizabeth II and 98-year-old Prince Phillip from Buckingham Palace. International pop stars Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga are taking no chances.

The Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, is wreaking havoc across the world and had been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO) and stressed international cooperation to contain the rapidly spreading virus. The Coronavirus has also had a debilitating effect on the global economy. Global supply chains are breaking down; countries are restricting travel, thousands of people are quarantined. Spain announced a nationwide lockdown as France moved to close all nonessential businesses — including cafes, restaurants and movie theaters. Worldwide infections have grown to more than 140,000 in over 120 countries, according to some estimates.

And yet YSRCP president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister still doesn’t see the virus as a serious threat. He thinks he is invincible and lives in a La La Land thinking AP is insulated from the most dreaded virus. The YSRCP supremo appears to be more concerned with a political narrative than the public health threat.

Corona virus doesn’t dabble in politics, but politicians are busy politicising the pandemic. Corona has no clue of what politicians think of it or doesn’t care if the leaders or electorate are worried. As the civic body elections progressed into unknown territory, Jagan Mohan Reddy has indulged in the politics of pandemic even as the seriousness of the pandemic still being debated across the world.

“There is no need to press panic button. It is not such a big threat as it is being made out to be,” Jagan Mohan Reddy said at a hurriedly held press conference minutes after the state election commission had postponed the civic body elections by six weeks. Well, how much it worries one depends heavily on personal politics.

As the world slipped into deepening uncertainty over a spreading virus and growing anxiety over its effect on the global economy, Jagan showed symptoms of cold, chills and fever not triggered by Corona virus rather the elections. Jagan turned cold on the opposition seemingly worried about the polls. His logic: If the elections are postponed, the state government will lose Rs 5,000 crore central funds. How are the central funds linked to the elections? That Jagan did not explain nor did the mainstream media bother to question his logic. Further, Corona is not casteist, but Jagan thinks the elections were postponed by state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, a Kamma, biased towards the Telugu Desam Party’s Chandrababu Naidu, a Kamma. “The former chief minister Chandrababu Naidu appointed Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar as SEC because both of them belong to the same social group.” This is the kind of classic casetist aspersions that one always gets to hear during the elections where the voters are more often than not divided whether the contesting candidate is a Reddy or a Kamma or a Kapu. But here Jagan, a product of the Hyderabad Public School, casting aspersions on the state election commissioner was rather sad. For the uninitiated, the Hyderabad Public School has produced illustrious sons of the soil like Satya Nadella (Microsoft CEO), Shantanu Narayen (Adobe CEO), Ajay Banga (Mastercard CEO), Karan Billimoria (Cobra beer founder, life peer of UK’s Parliament) and several others.

While his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhara Rao asked the schools, cinema halls and malls to shut down till March 31, Jagan was busy in dabbling in politics over corona instead of announcing concrete measures to contain and tackle in the event of an outbreak of the virus in Andhra Pradesh. What best electoral practices did Jagan announce to safeguard the electorate in AP if the elections were to be held as scheduled?

Jagan, who proposed three capitals for AP citing the South African example, should have also looked at the disaster-readiness of other countries during the elections instead of sharpening his criticism against the opposition and casting casteist aspersions on SEC. Jagan, as a CM, should have known that the election commission might require to invoke the doctrine of necessity to postpone the elections that may be due constitutionally during the period of national crisis caused by natural disasters, epidemic, pandemic or conflicts.

The September 11, 2001 terror attacks that destroyed the Twin Towers in New York City and killed thousands of innocent people, occurred the same day as the New York Democratic and Republican primary elections. Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey and New York, and Hurricane Matthew in the southeastern United States have occurred shortly before or during elections, in some cases severely disrupting them. When Superstorm Sandy hit the East Coast just days before the 2012 presidential elections, there were serious debates on the postponement of polls. Some states even evolved laws authorising the suspension, delay or postponement of an election in an emergency situation. Hurricane Sandy also served as a wake-up call for the importance of contingency planning with regard to relocation of polling places, power outages, equipment, poll worker and ballot shortages. The United States is still debating on postponement of is presidential primary because of the coronavirus outbreak with Louisiana becoming the first state, Georgia the second state to put off its presidential primary while several other are weighing various delays or mail-in balloting measures to protect the public from exposure to the illness.

Similar debates were held in India too. For instance, there was a debate to postpone the 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections for six months as voters were affected by flood and drought.

It is not just about whether to conduct elections during natural disasters. It is also about contingency plans during such events. What measures did the Andhra Pradesh government initiate to protect older people, the demographic most at risk for having serious complications from the virus? It’s not just the electorate, however, who are at risk. Poll workers too could be exposed to the risks of the deadly infection. Providing hand sanitizers at the polls, and sanitizing voting machines and other equipment could have been some of the measures that Jagan should have thought of, but instead he was busy resorting to unscientific statements that the corona virus is not a threat. This doesn’t bode well for the head of the state.

Further, the Modi government had advised state authorities to take measures to avoid mass gatherings in an attempt to contain the spread of COVID-19. Are elections conducted in isolation? Obviously, a large number of voters turn out at the polling booths, aren’t they mass gatherings? Isn’t the safety of every citizen paramount, Mr Jagan?

Like Naidu, Pawan talks of revolt against Jagan rule

0

One by one, all the opposition parties are slowly taking an extreme hard line against AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy. Now, Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan is threatening the YCP government with dire consequences if it still continues its oppressive and suppressive activities. Senani says that this Jagan Circar is making physical attacks and also crippling financial status of opponents. Jana Sena will not watch this silently and there will be a revolt in the streets. A few days ago, Chandrababu Naidu also spoke along similar lines. Naidu even warned the government against the possibility of people rising in a Sepoy mutiny like revolt.

Interestingly, even BJP is turning against Jagan though AP CM has given one Rajya Sabha seat to BJP sympathiser Parimal Natwani. Just a day after GVL Narasimha Rao complained to the Centre, the AP State Election Commission has postponed the local body polls. Now Pawan is talking of BJP-Jana Sena alliance waging an all-out battle against YCP. Pawan said that he had predicted prior to the elections itself that if Jagan Reddy comes to power, rowdyism and oppression would harm the people. But now, these goondas are entering even remotest corners of the state.

Jagan accuses SEC of caste bias

0

AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy launched a bitter and shattering attack on State Election Commissioner N Ramesh Kumar following the postponement of local body elections. Jagan said that Ramesh Kumar has shown his caste bias in favour of the Telugu Desam Party. It is clear that Chandrababu Naidu brought his caste man as the State Election Commissioner in order to get favours in the elections.

Jagan accused SEC Ramesh Kumar of taking unilateral decisions without considering the disadvantages caused to the poor people. SEC has wrongfully denied the opportunity to distribute house sites pattas to 25 lakh poor families.

CM Jagan especially attacked Chandrababu Naidu for creating obstacles to the elections. As a result of election postponement, AP State will now lose thousands of crores of rupees because the failure to complete election process by March 31. Jagan vowed to expose the unholy links between SEC and the TDP who are bent upon disrupting the election process from the beginning. Jagan met and asked Governor to intervene and order for continuation of local polls.

RK biting comment on Jagan 30 years goal?

0

The ruling YCP has completely shaken the morale in TDP districts leaders in local polls war. CM Jagan Reddy has showed and proved how he is going to keep a tight grip on voters with muscle and police power. Nobody has doubts that Jagan would further follow the same approach with more strategies in general elections which are over four years away. What more, there are also no doubts that YCP leaders’ dreams of 30-year Jagan rule may be a reality if this is how elections would be held. Andhra Jyothi Radha Krishna passed sarcastic and bitter comments on this situation. He says that let Jagan rule for three decades as per their wishes, but what matters is whether YSR son is winning the hearts of people or not.

In a more biting comment, Radha Krishna tells Jagan that it is better to live for a few months like a Swan than to live forever like a Crow. In his latest Kothapaludu column, RK also turned to philosophy saying Jagan should aim at running a pro-people rule rather than to stay in power solely. It would not get people’s blessings if Jagan perpertuates his rule in an oppressive way. Ultimately, people’s approval is the real test to a ruler but not election victories. Helplessness obviously is bothering Jagan rivals these days.

Jagan to adopt KCR’s plan: TDPLP merger into YSRCP soon?

1

YSRCP supremo and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is learnt to have decided to adopt KCR’s ‘merger plan’ to vanish prime opposition TDP from the AP Legislative Assembly.

The comments made by Jagan’s close aide and panchayat raj minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy on Friday lend credence to this arugment.

Peddireddy stated that it would be no surprise if ten more TDP MLAs join YSRCP in the near future.

This gives scope for suspicion that Jagan has devised a sketch for merger of TDP Legislature Party into YSRCP Legislature Party similar to what KCR did in Telangana.

KCR stripped Congress of main opposition status by merging CLP with TRSLP in both Legislative Assembly and Council. This merger plan will not attract the provisions of Anti defection law.

If two-third MLAs of any party seek merger with another party, they become official MLAs of party which they merged into.

Congress MLAs and MLCs in Telangana have become TRS MLAs and MLCs after they merged into TRS with two-third majority.

The speaker has the power to approve this and this will not face any legal problems even if someone approaches courts against merger.

Now, Jagan wants to adopt the same method in AP.

Already three TDP MLAs have extended support to YSRCP. If ten more TDP MLAs are willing to join YSRCP, they can merge TDPLP with YSRCPLP without any problem and it has legal sanctity.

TDP will automatically lose main opposition status and Chandrababu Naidu will lose leader of opposition status.

Naidu and remaining TDP MLAs can be sent to back benches in the Assembly, which will be humiliating for a leader of the stature of Naidu.

Can Shah take action against CM Jagan on local polls?

0

BJP MPs GVL Narasimha Rao, CM Ramesh and TG Venkatesh have complained formally to Union Home Minister Amit Shah about YCP atrocities in AP local body elections. The MPs later told the media that Shah will take action against AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy for his party violence against BJP candidates. Is this just a publicity stunt or a real warning to YCP government?

On the other hand, YCP leaders with active support from the police are attacking and snatching nomination papers from opposition parties. They are not sparing BJP nominees as well. This has stunned the BJP AP leaders who have made strong complaints to the party Central leadership. Now, the pressure on BJP National President JP Nadda and Amit Shah to create confidence in BJP AP cadres. If they keep silent, it goes without saying that the BJP AP cadres will get thoroughly demotivated.

However, there are many doubts whether Shah can really take strong action against Jagan Reddy. Only recently, Modi-Shah received a return gift from Jagan who gave one Rajya Sabha seat to Reliance President Nathwani. It is being seen as a very tricky situation for Shah. Moreover, even the AP High Court is threatening to complain to Amit Shah Office about violations of Rule of Law in AP. Slowly, the burden of controlling Jagan Reddy is falling on Shah’s shoulders.

Does Jagan need KCR help in local polls?

0

Telangana CM KCR volunteered to campaign for Jagan in 2019 elections but Prashant Kishore advised against that and stopped KCR AP electioneering at the last minute. Whatever, Jagan Reddy got a never-before victory winning 151 out of 175 MLA seats. But, in ten months of his rule, Jagan took historic, disruptive decisions like Capital shifting. Now, he is facing local body elections in which he requires the same massive victory like in 2019. Only that will give him moral strength to go ahead with his 3 Capitals plan.

Amid this, KCR began efforts once again to help Jagan. No secret that KCR wants so eagerly to finish off Chandrababu career. TRS circles say that KCR has sent messages to Jagan asking if he needs any TRS support to win local polls. KCR has got his own connections, relations and his Velama caste people in AP as well. He knows full well how caste factor plays a dominant role in Andhra elections. KCR’s latest offer triggered speculation whether Jagan is really in a crisis in local polls. Won’t caste factor rescue him any longer? Doubts are whether Jagan cash transfers like Amma Vadi will score over anti-people decisions like Capital shifting. Sadly, court orders are also going against Jagan now.

AP BJP fighting with YCP but Modi-Shah friendly with Jagan

0

The BJP AP unit leaders are facing a very ironical tricky situation. They are facing political harassment from the YCP in local body elections. Their candidates are being threatened and injured. They are not being allowed to even file nominations. It is so complicated that BJP AP President Kanna Lakshminarayana had to complain to the State Election Commission against YCP election atrocities especially in Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy’s Punganur segment in Chittoor district. The YCP leaders are attacking BJP without the slightest fear that the BJP Central leadership would take it seriously.

On the other hand, Modi-Shah are suspected to have given their blessings to Jagan Reddy who gave the return gift of one Rajya Sabha seat. The rumours in Delhi political circles are that YCP RS ticket was given to Reliance Natwani as part of Modi-Shah understanding with Jagan.

Now, that has come as a big minus point for BJP AP leaders as well as Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan in field level. They expected YCP to spare their candidates because of Jagan’s CBI cases and the Centre’s capabilities to control him. But, with one stroke, Jagan Reddy gained total upper hand on all the opposition parties in AP.

Satires against Jagan photos on caste certificates

0

The Jaganmohan Reddy government is known for its capability to do many illogical activities. These are triggering sarcastic comments from rivals, courts and different sections of the people. Latest such issue is that Jagan photos are being printed in caste, date of birth and no dues certificates being issued by the government offices. Such a thing has never happened in the country before. No Chief Minister or even Prime Minister ever went to the extreme step of allowing such lengths in the country till now.

Social media became flooded with comments against this thoughtless action of Jagan Circar. It cannot be said that this has happened without the knowledge of Jagan Reddy. Clearly, the top officials are allowing such unthinkable activities to take place without any check. Jagan’s photo is being printed on one side and state emblem is appearing on the other side on top of the certificates.

Commentators are joking that it is no wonder that soon, Jagan face will appear on the 10th certificates and degree certificates. Analysts say that right now, Jagan photo is printed on caste certificates which are a must for filing nominations in local polls. Is this also a way of campaigning? Already, Jagan Circar faced reverses in High Court on colours, Viveka murder, PPAs, etc. Certificates issue will also be no different.

Smart TVs for government-run schools in Andhra

0

Every government-run school in Andhra Pradesh will be provided a smart television for digitalised learning.

The decision was taken on Tuesday by Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy as part of his government’s move to modernize 15,715 schools.

Besides modernisation, the schools will also undergo digitalisation with the introduction of English as medium of instruction from Class 1 to Class 6 from the next academic year.

The Chief Minister, at a high-level meeting, reviewed Nadu-Nedu programme for modernisation of schools, and told the officials to complete the work by the beginning of the academic year in June.

He also directed that quality should be maintained in the items being offered as part of Jagannanna Vidya Kanuka programme. The officials displayed the uniforms, belts, bags, three pairs of uniforms, notebooks, textbooks, shoes and socks that would be given to the students.

The Chief Minister asked about the implementation of Jagannanna Gorumudda Mid-Day Meal programme and the maintenance of toilets in schools. Jagan hurry for Capital shifting to Vizag after local polls?

0

A few weeks ago, when Amaravati agitation was reaching its peaks, AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy met with Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao in Hyderabad. After his return, things speeded up and local body elections were announced at a short notice though no department was ready for the same. Even budget session is postponed. Why was this sudden hurry of Jagan? Answers are coming out for this now. During their meeting, the issue of Amaravati agitation came up between KCR and Jagan. KCR reportedly advised Jagan to immediately divert the public attention and also do something to make Capital agitation lose people’s sympathies.

KCR referred to how RTC stir suddenly weakened after TRS won massive victories in Telangana local polls. RTC employees eventually surrendered to the government’s terms. Jagan became convinced of this strategy. So, YCP needs spectacular victories now to get voters indirect approval for his 3 Capitals. Once local polls victories are secured, Jagan will shift CMO and Secretariat and departments to Executive Capital Vizag. Did local polls begin countdown for Capital shifting?

Will KCR fulfill Jagan’s wish on RS seat to Ponguleti?

The Rayja Sabha elections in Telangana have heated up politics in Telugu States.

There are two Rajya Sabha vacancies in Telangana. Though TRS winning both the seats comfortably due to its brute majority in TS Legislative Assembly, it has generated a considerable political buzz in AP, which is no way connected with TS Rajya Sabha polls as neither ruling YSRCP or Opposition TDP has any stakes in Telangana.

This is because AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy is learnt to have recommended his close aide from Khammam district Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy for Rajya Sabha ticket from TRS.

It is well known that Ponguleti won Khammam Lok Sabha seat as YSRCP candidate in 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

However, he subsequently quit YSRCP and joined TRS in 2016 and everyone knows Jagan himself sent Ponguleti to TRS after he decided to close his party in Telangana.

However, TRS chief KCR denied ticket to Ponguleti in May 2019 Lok Sabha polls. Instead he fielded Nama Nageshwar Rao from Khammam Lok Sabha seat, who defected from TDP to TRS, just days before polling.

Nama won the seat later. Since then, Ponguleti is sitting idle.

Ponguleti now wants KCR to compensate him by sending him to Rajya Sabha for sacrificing his seat to Nama.

Ponguleti tried to influence KCR through Jagan.

Jagan too came forward to help his friend and requested KCR to nominate Ponguleti to Rajya Sabha.

Since KCR and Jagan enjoy cordial relations, Ponguleti is confident of getting Rajya Sabha seat.

It remains to be seen whether KCR will fulfill Jagan’s wish and send his friend Ponguleti to Rajya Sabha.

It will be known on Wednesday or Thursday since the last date for filing nomination ends on March 13.
