Andhra to seek Centre’s support to develop infra in tribal areas

0

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to seek Centre’s assistance for building infrastructure facilities in the tribal areas across the state.

Apart from constructing roads and improving schools and hospitals under the Nadu-Nedu initiative, the state government also plans to provide comprehensive internet and mobile facilities in these areas.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday held a high-level meeting with the officials of the Home and Tribal Welfare departments regarding the Union Home Ministry’s forthcoming meeting on Left-wing extremism, to be held on September 26. The Chief Minister asked the state’s officials to prepare an action plan and seek adequate support for these programmes from the Centre.

The state government has been improving the condition of schools and hostels in 36 scheduled mandals under Nadu-Nedu along with renovating the government hospitals in those regions.

The Chief Minister also directed the telecom officials to map the towers being set up in the tribal areas. He instructed the authorities to design a policy for providing internet and mobile facilities to all the tribal villages in the state.

The officials said that telecom facilities are being provided to 900 villages with the help of around 400 towers.

DGP Gautam Sawang explained that Maoist activities in the state have dipped significantly, with the current strength of the armed Maoists pegged at 50.

Currently, Maoist activity can be seen only in Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, East Godavari and West Godavari districts, the DGP said in the meeting.

Is Jagan planning for early polls like KCR?

0

Is YS Jagan Mohan Reddy planning a early elections and throw the Opposition off-gear to secure a facile win. Indications are that he is planning to sweep the TDP off its feet by calling for an early poll. He has asked all his ministers and MLAs that they should start preparing ground for the election. He has also asked the YSRCP leaders to launch a house-to-house contact programme to dispel the opposition campaign against the government.

As if this was not enough, the famed Prashant Kishor team has once again begun working for YS Jagan. Why are they beginning to work two years in advance? This question is rankling many people. The early entry of Team PK is being seen as an indication that Jagan could be planning something very big to upset the Opposition’s apple cart. Another important pointer is that Jagan has said that 80 per cent of the ministers would be used for election purposes.

Jagan said that this will be done from May 2022. Incidentally, team PK too will start working from next year. This means, YS Jagan will go into election more from May 2022 itself. This also means that there could be an election somewhere around mid 2023, at least a year ahead of the schedule.

The internal assessment of the YSRCP is that there is a very positive mood in favour of the YSRCP government mainly because of the welfare schemes. He reportedly wants to go for elections before the euphoria wanes. He also realises that continuing the welfare doles is becoming increasingly difficult. So, Jagan might want to go for polls before the welfare schemes become a huge burden.

Why this YSRCP MLA feels let down?

1

Some MLAs in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s party have a long history of struggle. They waged incessant battles and focused on just one constituency, where they worked hard despite defeats. One such YSRCP leader is Chintala Ramachandra Reddy. He has been holding the fort in Piler assembly constituency in Chittoor. . He fought and lost from Piler several times. This time around in 2019, he has managed to register a stunning victory by defeating Nallari family’s Kishore, who was the TDP candidate.

Yet, despite all these efforts, Chintala feels that he has not been suitably rewarded. He was confident that he would be made a minister because of his impeccable credentials. But, when the council of ministers were sworn in, his name was simply not there. Deeply disappointed, Chintala then tried to get a nominated post. But the party, as a matter of policy, does not give corporation posts to the MLAs and MLCs. This was the policy evolved by YS Jagan. It is another matter that Nagari MLA Roja was given such nominated posts.

So, he eyed the TTD trust board membership. He lobbied hard by meeting YS Jagan, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Vijaysai Reddy, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and parliamentary party leader Mithun Reddy. They appealed to them to make him a TTD board member. However, when the list was out, his name was simply not there. He said to have been very disappointed. He feels that Peddireddy, the most powerful man in Chittoor played a part in denying him the post.

Ironically, Peddyreddy’s supporter and a former ZPTC, identified as Ashok Kumar got the TTD member’s post, while the MLA could not secure. Chintala is a dejected man these days and is said to be lamenting before his supporters that his services were not being suitably rewarded.

This Rajguru is emerging ‘all powerful’ in Jagan raj

1

In the olden folklore movies, one would see the Rajguru playing a pivotal role in the rule of the kinds. His word used to the law and kings and queens paid obeisance to them. Not much seems to have changed in this despite the advent of democracy. Remember, the chief minister of a Telugu state made his Guru, who is the pontiff of a famous mutt, sit in his chair and bless him. The AP CM, despite being a non-Hindu, has his own Guru, who has great influence over him.

The buzz in the AP political circles is that the unofficial Raj Guru is deciding everything in the governance of temples, especially in Tirumala. He is playing a key role in making changes in the darsanam timings of the Tirumala temple. Even appointments and expansion of the existing committees are being done only after consulting him. Realising his clout, several TTD officials are making a beeline to the seer’s ashramam and are said to be prostrating before him. They are also said to be receiving special benedictions, teertham and prasadam from the hands of the seer.

Significantly, the seer has reportedly asked the TTD to re-launch its bhajan mandals in the slums, dalit colonies and tribal areas to propagate Hindu dharma. The seer is said to have advised them to take action against those resorting to conversion atop the Tirupati temple.

Sources say that it was the intervention of this seer that has influenced the TTD executive board and the chairperson to allow darshanams. The swamy is said to be behind the recent controversy over traditional food service in Tirumala. Sources say that the seer’s proximity to Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is being widely spoken in hushed tones.

This political heir’s attempts to reclaim dad’s legacy have hit a road-block

1

Usually, politicians pave the way for their wards. They gradually initiate them into politics and ensure their growth. But in case of this politician’s son, there is great opposition. The party and its cadre seem to the opposed to his foray into politics. Now the politician’s son is fighting a hard battle to gain back the trust of the party and its workers.

The politician in question is Kodela Sivaram, son of former speaker Kodela Sivaprasad. Sivaram was a monarch when his father was in power. His abrasive behaviour, alleged imposition of K Tax and his excesses have severely damaged Kodela Sivaprasad’s image. Those in the know say that Kodela Sivaram’s excesses is the chief reason for Kodela’s defeat in 2019.

Now Sivaram is desperately trying to make a comeback in the TDP. He wants to become the incharge of Sattenapalli assembly constituency. However, the cadre and the local leaders are said to be completely opposed to this proposal. Several leaders went to Chandrababu and requested him not to make Shivaram party incharge for Sattenapalli. Those who have faced his high-handed ways and extortions are keeping away from the party activity because of him. Despite his assurances that he was a changed man and would not trouble the party workers, the TDP cadre is not in a position to believe him.

Of late, Shivaram is regularly touring Sattenapalli to firm up his position. He has reportedly met TDP AP president Atchen Naidu and requested him to give him another chance to ‘redeem’ himself. He is also planning to meet Chandrababu Naidu one of these days. He is said to be making last ditch attempt to make a comeback. Let’s see if he can make it in the TDP.

This small little change may pave way for VSP privatisation

0

One insignificant bit of single column news in newspapers that most readers tend to overlook is now creating quite a sensation in the Vizag Steel Plant circle. In what is being seen as a very firm move to privatise the VSP, the Central Government has appointed Atul Bhat as the chairman and the managing director of the plant. Bhat is a known hand in mergers, acquisition and share-offloading and this is being touted as the most decisive move to privatise the plant.

Atul Bhat replaces RK Rath, whose tenure expired recently, Atul Bhat would be in the position of the CMD till November 30, 2024. Bhat is known for preparing the Strategic Management Plan 2025 and played a key role in the merger and takeover of several firms. Many experts in the field say that Modi has appointed the right man for the right job and that Bhat would complete the total privatisation of the VSP. He is known to accomplish the task given to him come what may.

Those in the know say that Bhat began his career with the tata Steels and then moved to the Mittals in UK and the general manager. He played a key role in the mergers of the Mittals in Iran and several other countries. Now as the CMD of the Vizag, he is expected to complete the task given to him. Sources say that he would use all the tricks in the trade to privatise the unit.

Meanwhile, the agitation against the privatisation too appears to have lost its steam. The political parties are now gradually moving away from the agitation. It is now left for the employees unions alone to fight it out. But sources say that several employees on the verge of retirement are already negotiating with the management behind the curtains to get the best possible package for themselves. Given all these, Bhat may have a smooth sailing, according to the sources.

Relief to AP Govt: Centre permits to borrow Rs 2,655 cr more!

0

The cash-strapped YSRCP government in Andhra Pradesh got relief with the Centre allowing it to borrow an additional Rs 2,655 crore from the bond market through the auction of bonds.

The union ministry of finance issued orders to this effect on Tuesday (today).

The recent lobbying by AP government at Delhi-level for additional loans seems to have succeeded.

AP finance minister Buggana Rajendranath is making frequent rounds to Delhi to meet union finance minister and ministry officials seeking permission to raise additional loans.

The Centre permitted AP to raise more loans after it met its capital expenditure targets for April-June 2021-22 quarter set by the Centre. AP can raise additional loans for first quarter of this fiscal (April-June) in the ongoing second quarter (July-September).

“The additional open market borrowing permission granted is equivalent to 0.25 percent of their gross state domestic product (GSDP). Additional financial resources thus made available will help the States in pushing their capital expenditure further,” said the Finance Ministry in a statement on Tuesday.

To become eligible for incremental borrowing, the states were required to achieve at least 15 percent of their capital expenditure budgets set for 2021-22 by the end of the first quarter, 45 percent by the end of second quarter, 70 percent by the end of third quarter and 100 percent by March 31, 2022.

Jagan bail case: Raghurama moves Telangana High Court

0

YSRCP rebel MP Rahhuram Krishna Raju has moved Telangana High Court on Tuesday (today) on cancellation of bail granted to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy in illegal assets cases filed by CBI.

Raju moved a lunch motion petition in the High Court seeking transfer of Jagan case to another bench in CBI Court, Nampally, Hyderabad.

The CBI Court is expected to deliver its verdict on the petition filed by Raju seeking cancellation of bail to Jagan on September 15 (tomorrow).

Raju filed a petition in CBI in May this year seeking cancellation of bail to Jagan. The arguments in this case ended in August and the court reserved the verdict till September 15.

At this stage, Raju moved a petition in High Court stating that he has no confidence in CBI court that it will deliver verdict impartially in this case tomorrow pointing out that Sakshi media owned by Jagan already published news report on its website and social media platforms stating that CBI Court has dismissed his petition even before the court delivered its judgment.

Raju said Sakshi’s media’s false propaganda may influence CBI Court’s verdict tomorrow and taking this into consideration, Raju soughtHigh Court to transfer Jagan case to another bench.

The High Court admitted Raju’s petition and the outcome on his petition will be known by evening today.

Andhra CM for improving net connectivity to strengthen WFH in villages

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has said that synergy would be formed between skill development colleges and the work from home (WFH) concept, leading to better emploment opportunities with good salaries.

Andhra CM writes to Jaishankar about ill-treatment of workers in Bahrain

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has written to external affairs minister S. Jaishankar about several Indian workers being ill-treated by their employers in Bahrain.

The Chief Minister sought the assistance of the Centre for the return of the workers to their respective home towns.

In a letter to the central minister on Monday, Jagan Mohan Reddy pointed out that among the impacted workers, a sizeable number belongs to Andhra Pradesh.

Political rivalry takes a three-way turn in Palamner

0

Interesting political rivalry is taking shape in Palamner assembly constituency of Chittoor district. Sitting YSRCP MLA Venkat Gouda has soured relations with Chittoor strongman and minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy. He is now at loggerheads with the minister.

In fact, Venkata Gouda was not even remotely connected with politics. A semi-literate, he began as a mason and slowly grew into a realtor. It was during this time that he came into contact with Peddireddy. For quite some time, he was known as the protégé of Peddireddy. In 2019 elections, he was made the YSRCP candidate as the sitting YSRCP MLA N Amarnath Reddy defected to the TDP to become a minister. Since YSRCP did not have a proper candidate, Peddireddy projected Venkata Gouda. Venkata Gouda won the elections by over 42000 votes

However, after winning the elections, he became confined to only Bengaluru, where his business interests lay. For the last two-and-a-half years, he had focused only on his businesses. In the meantime, Adinarayana Reddy began actively touring the constituency. Even Peddireddy too has begun opposing Gouda.

Realising that things were going out of his hands, Gouda has become active for the last one week. He is touring every nook and corner in his constituency. He is meeting various civil society organisations in a big way and is noting down their complaints and suggestions. He is now trying to neutralise the negative feelings against him. With this Palamner has been experiencing a three-way struggle between Amarnath Reddy, Venkata Gouda and Peddireddy. Let’s wait and see how things unfold in the constituency in the coming days.

Unfriendly regime, bleak industrial outlook drive away investments from AP

0

Comparisons are being drawn between Telangana and AP over how they are attracting big companies to invest in the state. While Telangana is walking the extra mile in luring the big investors, the AP government’s ways and the political interference are driving the industrialists away. While Telangana is rolling out a red-carpet to the investors, the situation in AP is driving people out.

Last week, Mahindra and Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani visited Telangana to inaugurate a couple of oxygen plants. KTR was there in tow rolling out a red-carpet to him. Ditto with Kitex company of Kerala. The Telangana government requisitioned a chartered flight to take him to Warangal and show him the lands. By evening Kitex announced investments worth Rs 1000 crore.

On the contrary, the companies are fleeing from AP. The Lulu Group, which promised to invest huge amounts, has fled the state. The automobile major Kia has put on hold its expansion plans in AP. The Reliance is all set to leave Chittoor, where it was allocated lands. The story of Amararaja Batteries is also well-known.

What is worrisome is the fact that even the public sector investments are fleeing the state. The Rs 4500 crore LNG terminal project near Gangavaram is now being shifted to Gopalpur in Odisha. Ditto with GAIL’s floating LNG project near Kakinada port. Not a single new investment has come to AP after 2019. This will affect the industrial outlook in AP on a long-term basis.

Are Anantapur TDP leaders playing a double game?

0

Are the TDP leaders in Anantapur playing a double game? Are they outwardly attacking the YSRCP government, but are hobnobbing with it internally? Several TDP workers and sympathisers are expressing serious doubt over the honesty of the leaders? There are also serious doubts as to whether the TDP boss is getting the right feedback from these leaders.

Several leaders such as former minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy, MLA Payyavula Keshav and former minister Kalwva Srinivasa Rao are being accused of being hand in glove with the YSRCP. While they are criticising the TDP outwardly, they are allegedly hobnobbing with the YSRCP leaders, both locally and at the state level. Sources say that several party workers have lodged complaints against these leaders to both Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh Babu.

The party workers are demanding a probe into the activities of these leaders. They argue that if an impartial probe is conducted, their activities would stand exposed. There have always been doubts about Payyavula Keshav. But even leaders like Kalwa and Palle are now under the scanner.

Interestingly, the same fact was highlighted by JC Diwakar Reddy on a party forum. He said that this kind of hobnobbing will harm the interests of the TDP. He said that the party was being harmed because of this two timing. JC brothers are perhaps the only political group that is taking the YSRCP head on. They have managed to win Tadpatri municipal council. In fact, this is the only municipal council that did not fall into the YSRCP kitty. They argue that the TDP leaders should stop hobnobbing with the YSRCP.

Why did Vijaysai completely surrender to the Centre on special status?

0

Why is YSRCP general secretary and Rajya Sabha member Vijayasai Reddy being so obsequious towards the BJP at the Centre? Why is he pandering to the BJP so much? This question is baffling the political class in the Telugu states. For a local party with such a huge majority, he is being too meek while dealing with the BJP. This is the general opinion in political circles.

Vijaysai Reddy has not just backed the JK policy of the BJP, but even praised it. The parliamentary standing committee on commerce , which is headed by Vijaysai Reddy, has lauded the hike in allocations for the Ladakh and the JK. Interestingly, Ladakh does not have a capital. Yet, Vijaysai lauded the allocations.

Ironically, the BJP is showing more affection towards Ladakh and is ignored the claims of Andhra Pradesh. Though the committee led by Vijaysai Reddy did say that the Centre should show the same kind of affection towards other states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and AP, whoch had lost their capitals due to bifurcation. They also recommented a 10-year special package to these states. But, did not press for it.

It clearly shows that the YSRCP and Vijayasai Reddy are in no mood to fight with the Centre on any issue. The tone is not aggressive but meek . This is being trolled by the netizens to no end. They are questioning as to why he had failed to get even a single rupee as special fund for the state. They pointed out that the special status is already a dead subject due to the inaction of both the ruling party and the Opposition. Now looking at the obsequious body language of Vijaysai , it is clear that the AP is not going to get anything for the state.

AP Theatres to get a huge boost

0

The theatres across the Telugu states resumed operations after the second wave of coronavirus calmed down. Telangana government granted 100 percent occupancy and allowed the theatres to screen four shows in a day. But things are completely different in Andhra Pradesh. Despite the cases calming down, the government of AP continued to implement 50 percent occupancy rule. The night curfew too continued in AP from the past few months.

With the cases reaching minimal in AP, the government is expected to grant 100 percent occupancy for theatres and the order will be issued next week. This would be a huge boost for the AP Exhibition sector and the upcoming Telugu releases. Tollywood is also waiting for the amendment in the ticket pricing GO and if the AP government revises the GO, Telugu cinema will get back to the golden phase very soon. A heap of films are hitting the screens during Dasara season this year.

All is not well in Tirupati YSRCP

0

All is not well in Tirupati YSRCP. The party corporators are at loggerheads with the Tirupati MLA. They have told MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy that the days of MLAs dominating the corporators were gone. Not just that. They are keeping a distance from the MLA.  As a result, the MLA is feeling isolated in his own citadel.

The YSRCP had got a road-roller majority in the Tirupati Municipal Corporation elections. It had won 48 of the 49 divisions. The TDP had won in just a single seat. With such an assailable majority, it should have been a smooth ride for the YSRCP. Instead, there is intense groupism in the Tirupati YSRCP. The corporators are not willing to submit to Bhumana. They are taking decisions on their own without even bothering to consult the MLA. As a result, the officers of the TMC are caught in a cleft stick like situation not knowing who to listen to.

Several land related disputes and illegal constructions are happening in Tirupati and in all these, the MLA and the corporators are fighting with one another. In places like Jeeva Kona, Autonagar, MR Nagar, Timmanaidu Palem, Rajiv Nagar and Upadhyaya Nagar there are several land disputes. It is being rumoured that the corporators are demanding their cut in every land deal and are now allegedly trying to gobble up an acre of land behind the railway station.

The disputes between MLA Bhumana Karunakar Reddy and the YSRCP corporators have now become the talk of the town.  Every day, some dispute or the other is coming up and the officials are having a tough time handling both the groups. Some YSRCP well-wishers reportedly took the issue to the notice of the party leadership.

Danger bells for Tollywood Exhibition Sector

1

Telugu audience are the best when it comes to watching movies. No film industry got reopened completely after the arrival of the coronavirus pandemic. A bunch of Telugu movies released and raked massive revenues even during the pandemic season. With the second wave of cases calming down, the audience have been watching films in theatres. The ticket pricing GO in Andhra Pradesh and the 50 percent occupancy rule turned out to be the major barrier for the film industry.

Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy is yet to revise the GO and he never offered an appointment for the Tollywood bigwigs who are waiting to meet the Chief Minister. In a shocking move, the AP Government issued a new GO of movie ticket portal that hints at controlling the ticket prices in the state. This move makes sure that the government of AP is all set to take a stronghold on the exhibition industry in Andhra Pradesh. The exhibitors and distributors are criticizing the government against the decision.

They are warning that several single screens will head for a closure if the situations continue to be the same in Andhra Pradesh if they screen films with 50 percent occupancy and low ticket pricing. The Tollywood bigwigs are tight-lipped and are waiting to meet YS Jagan at the earliest. On the other side, the distributors of AP are in plans to conduct a meeting and head for a legal battle against the government of Andhra Pradesh if the bigwigs of Telugu cinema fail to resolve the issue at the earliest.

Jagan set to grand Tammineni’s ministerial wish, Sr. Dharmana to be speaker

1

It is now almost certain that YSRCP supremo and chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is ready to grant Speaker Tammineni Seetaram’s wish. Tammineni has for long been demanding that he wants to have one last stint as a minister before making a bow one last time. For the past two years, Tammineni has time and again expressed the wish to work as a minister under YS Jagan.

It now appears that Jagan has finally agreed to give Tammineni one last chance. When he undertakes the next reshuffle, which is likely in October, he is said to be thinking of making Tammineni a minister. If sources are to be believed, he is said to be thinking of making another politician from Srikakulam the speaker. Sources say that senior leader and former minister Dharmana Prasada Rao is likely to be made the next speaker.

Dharmana has been sulking for quite some time at not being made a minister in Jagan’s council of minister. His brother Krishna Das has been made a minister, but Dharmana Prasada Rao has been sidelined. Now the sources say that another minister from Srikakulam S Appala Raju may be replaced by Tammineni and Dharmana Prasada could take Tammineni’s place. So, Jagan can keep both Dharmana brothers and Tammineni happy. And the speaker’s post will remain with Srikakulam district.

Dharmana Prasada Rao is a very senior politician and has worked as a minister for two terms under late YSR. From 2014 till 2019, he has worked as an opposition MLA. Now that YSRCP is in power, he wants to be a minister. But now, he appears to have settled for the speaker’s post. One needs to wait for the cabinet reshuffle to happen and the dreams of Tammineni and Dharmana to become a reality.

Actor Sonu Sood backs Amaravati farmers

0

Actor Sonu Sood on Thursday extended his support to farmers of Amaravati, who have been protesting for more than 600 days against the shifting of the state capital.

Some farmers from Amaravati including women called on Sonu Sood at Gannavaram Airport when he landed there for a visit to Vijayawada. They urged him to support their movement, which entered 632nd day on Thursday.

The actor, who has been playing good Samaritan since Covid-19 pandemic broke out last year and has been lending a helping hand to people in distress, assured the farmers that he is with them. “Of course I am with you,” he told farmers when they sought his support.

Farmers have been protesting at various places in Amaravati over the state government’s plans for trifurcation of the state capital. They are demanding that Amaravati be retained as the single state capital.

The YSR Congress Party government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has decided to shift administrative capital to Visakhapatnam and judicial capital to Kurnool while retaining Amaravati as only the legislative capital.

Meanwhile Sonu Sood, often called real hero for his support to poor and the needy, received a warm welcome at the airport from his fans. “Public is the real hero. We are just normal people,” he told reporters.

The actor was in Vijayawada to inaugurate a private hospital. He also had darshan at Kanaka Druga temple atop Indirakiladri. Temple officials accorded him a warm welcome. The temple priests blessed him and presented him ‘prasadam’ and mementoes.

Later, talking to reporters the actor said he prayed for an early end to the pandemic so that people can live the normal life again.
