Balakrishna being trolled after comments on AR Rahman and Bharat Ratna

Netizens had a field day on Wednesday, after an interview of Telugu star and MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna went viral. In the interview, the actor says he doesn’t know who Oscar-winning music composer AR Rahman is, and adds that Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, is equal to the “toenail” of his father, late actor-politician NT Rama Rao.

“I don’t know who AR Rahman is. He won an Oscar and I don’t even know who he is. He gives a hit once in a decade,” said Balakrishnan, in an interview to the channel TV9.

Rahman, incidentally, had composed the background score of Balakrishna’s 1993 film, “Nippu Ravva”.

Speaking about Bharat Ratna, the actor, also known as Ballaya to fans, said: “I feel that Bharat Ratna is equal to my father’s toenail. No award can compensate for the contribution of my family to Tollywood. So, only the awards should feel bad. Not my family or my father.”

Soon, a Twitter war erupted, with Rahman fans mercilessly posting memes, and hashtag #whoisbalakrishna started trending.

A fan tweeted: “How can a senior actor like #Balakrishna talk about Indian legend #ARRahman? Will people accept if a similar thing is being spoken by a Tamil actor on #Rajamouli?”

While another one tweeted: “Who is balakrisha the funny actor #whoisbalakrishna.”

“Born to spoil is DAD good name.. #whoisbalakrishna this head weight attitude is the biggest reason for people to hate him.. funniest part is he is MLA”

Soon, Balakrishna’s fans were out defending him, saying he was a hero of the masses and a charitable personality.

Actress Seerat Kapoor, who is known for her work in Telugu films, is also a trained classical singer. She hopes that some day she will get to work with music maestro AR Rehman.

“While I was preparing Ranbir Kapoor and Nargis Fakhri for ‘Rockstar’ promotions as an assistant choreographer, I had the privilege to watch AR Rehman jam live. It was the most surreal experience, I didn’t blink! I remember, by the end of his performance, I had teary eyes. AR Rehman, through his music can touch your soul. On the first line he sang, I was absorbed by his world. I hope I get to work with him someday,” Seerat tells IANS.

The actor, whose popularity increased after starring in Telugu film “Krishna And His Leela”, says learning dance and singing helped her understand the field of performing arts better.

“I am trained in Indian classical and semi classical music since the age of 12. At the time, my focus was on dance and music both. Educating myself in the field of performing arts through dance and music simultaneously helped me grow a deeper insight and understanding towards each of them individually, rather early,” she says.

AR Rahman: I am politically illiterate by choice

0

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman feels although the world is going through a socio-political turmoil, and every second person is expressing political opinion in an aggressive manner, he chooses to channelise his energy in making music, stories and art that can bring about a positive change in the mind of the youngsters.

The Indian music maestro is all set to take a new step in creativity. He makes his debut as scriptwriter and film producer with the upcoming musical film, “99 Songs”.

“I am politically illiterate by choice, because I rather invest my energy to create what I am creating. One of the reasons why I am making films, music and training kids in music is to offer them a space that they can explore away from politics, violence and all things that are negative. I see how everyone is getting into some political opinion and it is a grey area. It is complicated and probably I won’t be able to articulate my thoughts as correctly as I can do it through music. For me, serving humanity through art — that heals people, that is spiritual — is more important when there is too much aggression out there,” Rahman told IANS.

His daughter Khatija was brutally trolled a while back by the Swedish-Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen on social media, for wearing the burqa, but Khatija’s graceful and befitting answer to the author received huge applauds by netizens.

Rahman’s “99 Songs” is directed by Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy and the film features Ehan Bhat, Edilsy Vargas, Lisa Ray, Manisha Koirala, Ranjit Barot and Rahul Ram.

What prompted him to take up the challenge of filmmaking? The Mozart of Madras’ replied: “Not taking up challenges and feeling complacent due to success is boring! I mean, none of us are immortal. We all are going to die, but before death happens let us give new ideas a try. My drive is to explore human possibilities. Criticism is okay with me, so many challenges are thrown at us by life. It is worth taking up the challenges!”

The songs of his film were released on Thursday in Mumbai. Rahman has created the album with Dolby Atmos. Emphasising on the collaboration, Rahman said: “When you hear music, good sound technology offers you an experience that is worth cherishing. We get to experience Dolby Atmos in cinema theatres. They are now collaborating with streaming platforms where you listen to music on the phone and still get the same sound quality, without those speakers.”

He added: “When you listen to a song on your phone, you hear a compressed file that tampers the sound, and the nuances are missed. When a 200MB file is made into a 1. 5 MB file, usually you do not get the same quality. But now that is possible courtesy the new sound technology of Dolby Atmos. I am looking forward to it,” he explained.

AR Rahman responds on poor response for his recent albums

1

Oscar winning music composer AR Rahman has been badly criticized for his recent works. None of his music albums ended up impressing his fans and music lovers. His songs and tunes have been reminding us about his old tunes. Rahman recently composed music for Mani Ratnam’s Nawab which is hitting the screens tomorrow. During his recent media interaction, AR Rahman has been asked about his tunes getting poor response in the recent times. He compared his tunes to his personality.

“My tunes resemble my personality. When I don’t change, why will my tunes change? I never wanted to change and so are my tunes. I don’t respond on being criticized and I am bothered about giving the best tunes for my directors and filmmakers. I compose a tune considering the audience. I have been travelling with Mani Ratnam sir from the past 26 years and we have immense love, respect and confidence on each other. I love to travel with him and he accepts my suggestions with open heart. I compose great tunes with his inputs and these are the reasons for our success” revealed AR Rahman.

Can Surender Reddy find a replacement for AR Rahman ?

0

It is a little disconcerting for Surender Reddy and his team after AR Rahman officially announced that he is unavailable for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s SyeRaa Narasimha Reddy. The Oscar winning composer’s exit is a double whammy for team SyeRaa as they already suffered a setback after popular cinematographer Ravi Varman walked out of the project due to delay in the start. However, they brought Ratnavelu on board as replacement.

As the film is made as a multilingual project with a grand canvas involving an ensemble cast and a whopping budget, renowned technicians like AR Rahman and Ravi Varman would easily give SyeRaa a nationwide attention. But their sudden exit has left Surender Reddy in a spot of bother.

Now, the question is whether team SyeRaa can find a suitable replacement for AR Rahman who could do justice to this magnum opus.

Though SS Thaman’s name is widely speculated as replacement for AR Rahman, it is yet to be known whether Surender Reddy has locked him or is he looking for other alternatives.
