Family war intensifies in the Bhuma Family

1

A family war is on in the Bhuma family of Nandyal. The question is who would be contesting the elections from the family in the 2024 elections. There are at least three claimants for the ticket to contest from the Bhuma family itself.

The ruling TDP has sent clear indications that it is no longer interested in making Bhuma Akhilapriya as the party candidate. Akhilapriya was made a minister during the 2014-2019 period. However, she landed in several controversies and alienated several close family friends and supporters. To add to her woes, she has also got embroiled in a kidnap and extortion case in Hyderabad. She and her husband are out on bail now.

Bhuma family member Bhuma Jagat Vikyat Reddy has already announced that he would contest the election from Allagadda assembly constituency. Sources say that he is likely to be given the TDP ticket. Akhilapriya is said to be angry with this development.

Meanwhile, Akhilapriya’s elder brother Bhuma Kishore Reddy has joined the BJP. He is very actively working to strengthen the party. He is becoming increasingly popular in the constituency. Now the TDP is eyeing Kishore. It is trying toget him into the TDP. This is ot to the liking of both Jagad Vikhyat and Akhilapriya. All these are becoming problems for the Bhuma family.

Is this why Akhila Priya is moving closer to Jana Sena?

1

Though out of power, former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya never fails to make it to the news headlines. Spate of kidnap and extortion cases later, she is now in the news for another reason. Highly placed sources say that she is considering joining the Jana Sena now. If sources are to be believed, she has already held talks with Pawan’s emissaries and is all set to quit the TDP.

Her main grouse is that TDP Chandrababu Naidu has not given her an appointment for the last one-and-a-half-year. In fact, Chandrababu was upset with the cases of extortion and kidnap that she was involved in. He felt that she was bringing disrepute to the TDP through her actions. Sources also said that Chandrababu is also fully aware of her attempts to join the YSRCP and the BJP. In fact, she had opened channels with both the parties. However, it is another matter that both the parties showed no interest in her. In fact, her brother and political rival Bhuma Kishore Reddy joined the BJP and this had closed doors for her in the party.

With her father’s best friend and her worst rival AV Subba Reddy working hard in the TDP and his daughter Jaswanthi Reddy building up a base in the party, Akhila Priya feels that the TDP may not even give her a ticket in 2023 elections. Left with virtually no options, she is said to have opened p channels of communication with the Jana Sena. She is said to have leveraged on her parents association with the Praja Rajyam Party. Her father was incharge for Rayalaseema PRP and her mother was elected an MLA from the party . She is using this channel to befriend the Jana Sena establishment.

Sources say that there is another reason for her choice of the Jana Sena. Her husband Bhargava Ram is from the Balija community, which is the mainstay of the Jana Sena. She is hoping that the community will rally behind her. This, sources say, is one of the main reasons for her overtures to the Jana Sena. Sources say that she might soon announce her joining of the Jana Sena.

Rival within family torments Akhilapriya

0

Former minister Bhuma Akhilapriya now has a rival from within. Her cousin Bhuma Kishore Reddy is now fast emerging as a rival to her. Bhuma Kishore Reddy, who has recently joined the BJP is fast turning out to be a tough nut. He has opposed her policies and joined the BJP to work against her

He has started a mass contact programme titled Palle Bata. Under this programme, he is planning to go from village to village to understand the problems of the people. The Pallebata began from Govindinne village, which is close to his native village of Kothapalli in Dornipadu mandal. He is planning to touch every household in each village. He is trying to project himself as an alternative to Bhuma Akhila Priya.

As for Bhuma Akhilapriya, she is unable to organise similar programmes. Police cases, domestic issues and other problems have prevented her from reaching out to the people. Her husband Bhargav and brother Vikhyat are on the run due to the slew of cases they are facing. So, they occasionally try to meet the people, but for most of the time, they are trying to evade the police.

The TDP workers in Allagadda constituency are now a confused lot. They are unable to decide whether to stand with Akhila Priya or join Kishore Reddy. Many Bhuma followers now feel that it is about time that they need to make a decision on who to follow. With Akhilapriya not touring the constituency extensively, most of them are veering towards Kishore Reddy.

Is it the end-of-the-road for Bhuma Akhila Priya?

1

Is TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu contemplating of keeping once-popular Bhuma family scion Akhila Priya? Is he planning to throw his weight behind her bête noire AV Subba Reddy? Has Chandrababu decided that Bhuma Akhila Priya is not the political force that she used to be some time ago?

The Bhuma family is one of the most powerful political families in Kurnool district and has held sway in both Nandyal and Allagadda constituencies for over three decades. Bhuma Nagireddy was one time MLA and three-time MP from Nandyal. His wife Bhuma Shobha Nagireddy was a many-time MLA and a former minister. But ever since the demise of Bhuma Nagireddy, the family has lost its sheen and despite being given several chances, Bhuma Akhila Priya has failed to consolidate herself. What more? She has alienated several Bhuma acolytes. Many of those who sweated it out for the Bhuma family have now left the party.

Even within the Bhuma family, there is no unity. Akhila Priya’s brothers have joined the BJP. He has been actively working for the BJP. This too has weaned a significant section of the Bhuma supporters away from Akhila Priya. Sources say that Chandrababu strongly feels that Akhila Priya has failed to utilise the opportunities provided to her. Akhila Priya is now battling a slew of cases, including kidnap and extortion and may find it difficult to regain the lost ground. Also, there are several complaints about her husband’s undue interference in party affairs.

Hence the TDP has now lost interest in Bhuma Akhila Priya. Party sources are said to be courting AV Subba Reddy, who was a close follower of Bhuma Nagireddy but has fallen out with Akhila Priya mainly due to her alleged abrasive ways. The party is already said to be nurturing Subba Reddy and his daughter.

Is Bhuma Akhilapriya joining YSRCP?

1

A major move is in the offing to join former minister and Bhuma family scion Bhuma Akhilapriya into the YSRCP. Though YS Jagan is reportedly against this move, there is said to be pressure from several of his relatives as Bhuma family has close relationship with the YS family.

Akhilapriya is passing through troubled times. He is facing kidnap charges in Telangana and her husband Bhargavaram is on the run to escape police dragnet. Akhilapriya herself spent few weeks in the jail in this case. The famed Nandyala Dairy, which was run by the Bhuma family, has slipped away from her hands. She is said to be having dispute with her sister Mounika too. Interestingly, neither Chandrababu Naidu nor the TDP is trying to help her in these troubled times.

So to bail her out, her extended family has begun making moves to bring her into the YSRCP. Interestingly, most of Akhilapriya’s relatives are in the YSRCP. Her brother’s father-in-law Katasai Ramireddy is YSRCP MLA from Banaganapally. Similarly, her first husband is son of Jagan’s uncle Ravindranath Reddy. He is YSRCP MLA from Kamalapuram. YS Vijayalakshmi too is considered quite close to Bhuma Akhilapriya. Her unble Mohan Reddy too is in the YSRCP.

All these are now said to be helping her and are trying to bring pressure on YS Jagan Mohan Reddy to allow her into the YSRCP. The protective umbrella of the YSRCP will help her tide over the crises she is facing, sources say. Though Akhilapriya is desperately trying to sneak into the YSRCP, whether YS Jagan allows her or not is the question. Sources say that he may finally allow her into the party.

Whole ‘Bhuma’ family being booked in Bowenpally kidnap

3

The Bowenpally kidnap case is taking more serious turns each passing day. One by one, almost all members of Bhuma Akhila Priya family are getting booked under one section or another. In the latest instance, an FIR is booked against her brother Jagat Vikhyat Reddy.
Already, the Hyderabad police have booked Akhila Priya’s husband Bhargava Ram and his relatives as well. The police kept a close watch at the Bhargava Ram parents’ house as well. There were allegations that Bhargava Ram and Jagat Vikhyat Reddy had directly participated in the kidnap incident.
Whatever be the objectives, the Telangana Government is tightening the noose around the Bhuma family which has emerged as a major strength for the TDP in Kurnool district. Akhila Priya has been denied bail and she is sent to Chanchalguda jail on 14 days judicial remand. Her sister Mounika Reddy is now leading their family followers and she is accusing top people in positions of power of running a conspiracy against their family.
Now, the Bhuma family is saying that they were targetted only to grab their Hafeezpet lands since they lost both their parents.

Politicians’ role in Hyderabad ‘land settlements’ back in spotlight

0

The arrest of former Andhra Pradesh minister Bhuma Akhila Priya for her alleged involvement in the kidnapping of businessman Praveen Rao and his two brothers in Hyderabad has brought spotlight back on the role of powerful politicians from Rayalaseema in “settling” land disputes in Hyderabad.

Police have also taken into custody A.V. Subba Reddy, an aide of Akhila Priya’s family and are on the lookout for her husband Bhargav Ram and other accused in the sensational kidnapping of Praveen Rao, a businessman and former badminton player and his two brothers.

The incident has also brought into focus the role played by Akhila Priya’s father and former MP Bhuma Nagi Reddy in settling the disputes over lands in and around Hyderabad. Nagi Reddy, who passed away in 2017, was allegedly known for using strong arm tactics for the “settlements”.

According to police, the kidnapping is related to 25 acres of prime land in Hafeezpet near the information technology cluster of Hitec City. Praveen Rao’s family had purchased the land in 2016.

“There were some issues on the land, which was mediated by Subba Reddy with the assistance of Nagi Reddy. After the issues got resolved, understanding between Praveen and Subba Reddy was executed. But, Subba Reddy did not execute his terms of understanding with Nagi Reddy. After the death of Nagi Reddy, his daughter Akhila Priya approached Praveen for share in the land. When Praveen stated that he has completed the transaction with Subba Reddy and requested her to approach him, she started threatening him,” police said.

Akhila’s brother Jagat Vikyat Reddy, however, claimed that the piece of land at Hafeezpet belonged to them and there was a dispute over it. “After the death of our father, some people colluded with Subba Reddy. There are many powerful people involved in it,” he said.

Akhila’s sister Mounika Reddy alleged that Akhila Priya was arrested without any evidence. She said police showed over enthusiasm in the case due to political pressure.

Initially, police named Subba Reddy as the main accused in the case and Akhila Priya as the second accused. However, in the remand report, the former minister was made accused number one.

Denying Akhila’s involvement in kidnapping, her brother and sister appealed to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to do justice. They alleged that their family is being tortured.

After the kidnapping and arrest of Akhila, Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the police will not tolerate such organised crimes in Telangana.

“This is a warning to all criminals. The law of the land is firm in Telangana and we will not tolerate what was happening earlier,” he said in an obvious reference to instances of ‘land settlements’ that used to happen in undivided Andhra Pradesh.

Akhila Priya, who hails from Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, is daughter of Nagi Reddy, who was MP from Nandyal between 1996 and 2004. He was one of the politicians from the region who played a key role in settling land disputes in Hyderabad when the city witnessed a boom in real estate market.

The kidnapping case also brought into focus the relationship between the families of Nagi Reddy and Praveen Rao. The latter’s father Krishna Rao allegedly used to work for Nagi Reddy by scouting lands stuck in dispute.

After the sudden death of Nagi Reddy in 2017, his children had no information about the properties he had amassed and also about individuals who had title deeds.

Following Nagi Reddy’s death, differences had also cropped up between his aide Subba Reddy and Akhila Priya and her siblings over the land dealings.

Former Andhra Pradesh minister Paritala Ravi and his rival Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy alias Maddelacheruvu Suri were also involved in many land settlements in and around Hyderabad.

Ravi was gunned down by Suri’s men in 2005 in Anantapur. Suri was shot dead in Hyderabad by his aide Bhanukiran in 2011 after differences between them over ownership of some lands.

During the investigations into Suri’s killings, police had found that Bhanukiran owned land worth Rs 140 crore.

Akhila Priya arrested, shifted to Chanchalaguda jail

1

Former AP Minister and TDP leader Bhuma Akhila Priya was arrested and produced before the court on the charges of kidnapping three persons. She was remanded to 14 days judicial custody. The Hyderabad police shifted her to Chanchalguda women’s jail. She was named A2 in the kidnapping of Praveen Rao, Sunil Rao and Navin Rao.
The kidnapping reportedly took place in connection with an old land dispute. This was relating to 25 acres in Hafizpeta and it was worth over Rs. 500 Cr now. AV Subba Reddy, a close associate of Akhila Priya family, was named as A1 in the case. The Hyderabad police got alerted immediately after the kidnap and sounded alert in AP and Kurnool district as well.
However, the kidnappers left their victims at Moinabad as they were not able to find a safe passage. Based on the complaint of the victims’ family, the police immediately picked up Akhila Priya from her house.
The police were searching for AV Subba Reddy, Akhilay Priya’s husband Bharava Ram and others as well. They had already questioned the former Minister for a few hours at the Begumpeta police quarters.
Akhila Priya was pregnant and her lawyers had objected to her arrest. Her bail application would come up for hearing on Thursday.

Ex-minister detained in kidnapping of ex-badminton player, brothers

2

Hyderabad police on Wednesday detained former Andhra Pradesh minister Bhooma Akhila Priya and her husband Bhargava Ram for questioning in connection with the kidnapping of former badminton player Praveen Rao and his two brothers.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and her husband were picked up from their residence in Kukatpally hours after the trio were rescued by the police on the city outskirts. The couple was being questioned at an undisclosed location.

Praveen Rao, Sunil Rao and Naveen Rao, who are relatives of of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s personal assistant, were kidnapped on Tuesday night from their residence in Bowenpally here by a group of people posing as income tax officers.

The victims were reportedly traced in Moinabad near the city. Police have taken at least eight accused into the custody and were looking for others.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar said the police cracked the kidnapping case. He said details will be announced later in the day.

The incident is related to a land dispute and the kidnappers forced Praveen Rao and his brothers to sign a few documents.

The three brothers were kidnapped in a filmy style from their residence in Bowenpally in Secunderabad on Tuesday night. A group of 15-20 people came to their house and introduced themselves as income tax officials. They even produced fake search warrants and two of them were in police uniform.

Praveen contacted his another brother Pratap Rao, a lawyer living in Mahabubnagar. Pratap Rao was monitoring CCTV footage from his mobile phone and since the ‘IT sleuths’ had produced the search warrants, he asked his brothers to cooperate in the search.

They took mobile phones, laptops and other gadgets of all the family members saying this was part of the procedure followed during searches.

Pratap Rao said after 15-20 minutes the CCTV cameras were switched off and when he tried to contact his brothers they were not reachable. He grew suspicious and contacted income tax authorities, who clarified that the department was not conducting any search. He informed family friends MP Maloth Kavitha and state minister Sriniva Goud, who alerted the top police officials.

An alert was sounded in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates. Police in all districts of Telangana and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh were also alerted.

The accused whisked away Praveen Rao, Naveen Rao and Sunil Rao with them after locking other family members in a room.

According to Pratap Rao, his brothers were blindfolded by kidnappers. They were taken to a farm house on Chilkur road.

It was immediately not clear if the police rescued the victims or the kidnappers set them free. The details are likely to be announced by the police later in the day.

Praveen Rao and his brothers returned home early morning. Pratap Rao said they provided information to police about those whom they suspected to be involved in kidnapping.

The lawyer said their brother had nothing to do with the land dealing and the accused resorted to kidnapping due to some misunderstanding.

He did not reveal the identity of those involved, saying it was for police to announce the details.

Akhila Priya gave Rs 50 lakh supari to kill Y V Subba Reddy: Gangula Prabhakar Reddy

1

A day after the Gangula family violated the lockdown regulations by offering prayers at Ahobilam Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Kurnool, YSRCP MLC Gangula Prabhakar Reddy tried to deflect the main issue by making serious allegations against TDP leader Bhooma Akhila Priya.

Training his guns on Akhila Priya, Gangula Prabhakar Reddy alleged that the TDP leader and daughter of late Bhooma Nagi Reddy gave a supari (contract killing) of Rs 50 laksh to kill TTD chairman and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle Y V Subba Reddy. Further, Gangula Prabhkar Reddy said Akhila Priya was indulging in the politics of murder at a very young age. None of the allegations have any base, and actual amount to defamation. It remains to be seen if Akhila Priya will file a criminal defamation suit against Gangula Prabhakar Reddy.

On Wednesday, the powerful Gangula family in Kurnool gathered in large numbers to offer prayers at a temple in the district defying the central government’s directive banning religious gatherings. More than 20 members of the family, led by Gangula Prabhakar Reddy and his son Gangula Bijendranath Reddy, offered special prayers and homam at Ahobilam Sri Laxmi Narasimha Swamy without maintaing any physical distance. Gangula Bijendranath Reddy is Allagadda YSRCP MLA.

In view of the nationwide lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19, the central government has banned all large gatherings, including religious congregations at all places of worship such as temples, masjids and churches. All the temples in the country have been closed. Only daily offerings and poojas by priests are allowed.

Gangula Prabhakar Reddy’s allegations against Akhila Priya comes in the wake of her Twitter post. Akhila Priya took to Twitter to point out that the state government was allowing YSRCP leaders to enter the temples while denying the general public to offer prayers. “Why are temples open for YSRCP leaders? During Swathinakshatra thousands of people from different states come to worship ahobilim NarasimhaSwamy but during the lockdown the temple was opened for Allgadda MLA and MLC.Strict action needs tobe taken @ncbn @kishanreddybjp @naralokeshhttps://t.co/I1knaQibRT

Another case against Akhila Priya husband

0

The Jagan Reddy government has filed already two cases in Allagadda rural police station against Bhargava Ram, husband of former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya. Rural SI went to arrest Bhargava in Hyderabad. However, Bhargava tried to avoid the arrest. Following this, Allagadda Rural SI filed a complaint in the Gacchibowli police station. Bhargava was charged with obstructing the SI from discharging his official duties. The SI complained that Bhargava tried to hit him with his car when he was approaching to arrest him.

Akhila Priya family is being targetted ever since her aggressive opposition to the uranium mining and search activities in Rayalaseema region. Her agitation has got support from the Left parties and several civil society organisations. Film celebrities have already expressed concern how uranium mining would spoil the waters of the Krishna river. This would hurt the interests of people of the two Telugu states.

YCP Circar is filing one case after another against TDP leaders who are subjected to mental harassment and humiliation. Former Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao committed suicide because of the YCP harassment. But still cases are continuing to be booked.

Akhila Priya kicks off ‘Save Allagadda’ campaign

0

All of a sudden, the government stopped ongoing uranium exploration works at Yadawada village in Allagadda mandal in Kurnool district. This is because a large number of villagers gathered after arrival of Former minister Akhila Priya and her followers to hold a protest programme. Her arrival and protest forced the operators to stop exploration works immediately. Then, she gave a call for ‘Save Allagadda’ campaign against the Jagan Reddy government for allowing uranium mining in the area.

Akhila Priya told the villagers that the uranium exploration has already led to outbreak of diseases in Kadapa district. This is despite the fact that the chief minister hails from that district. But such harmful activities will not be allowed in Kurnool district. She chalked out a plan to hold the campaign in all villages in Allagadda area.

The Kurnool incident triggered fears whether the government is secretly going ahead with uranium mining regardless of all round criticism from people’s organisations, intellectuals, local residents, etc. Residents of villages in the vicinity of Nallamala forest are greatly agitated over the harm that may happen to them. Comments by film celebrities and Pawan Kalyan’s call have already created lot of awareness there. It is indeed going to be tough for the government to go ahead with its plans.

Chandrababu’s ‘No fund for Nandyal roads’ video creates stir

Ahead of the Nandyal by-elections, a video of YSR Congress Party candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy requesting funds to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for development of his constituency has emerged online. The video which is was taken on Jan 9, 2016 during Janmabhoomi-Maavooru program at Deebaguntla in Kurnool shows Silpa requesting funds for development of roads in Nandyal. Chandrababu responding to the request can be seen asking, “Where is the money?”

The video was posted not only to elevate Silpa’s candidature but also upholds the statements by Opposition Leader Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. During the public address in Nandyal last week Jagan said, “Had the election been unanimous, the Chief Minister wouldn’t have released any funds to Nandyal constituency.” The video surfaced as counter to Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya accusation that Silpa failed to get funds for Nandyal when he was in the Telugu Desham Party. Even the Late Bhuma Nagi Reddy is seen in the video. However, the Chief Minister’s question about ‘no funds’ is followed up by request a to the legislators to draw an action plan and submit it for allocation of funds as he doesn’t want to promise it on the fly.

Akhila Priya is the Lady Pappu of Chandrababu’s Cabinet : Roja

0

Nagari MLA Roja taking serious objection of Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya’s complaint on Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, said that “Akhila Priya is the Lady Pappu of Chandrababu’s Cabinet”

She said that the Minister of tourism is not even entitled to criticize Jagan. She accused that posts are more important to Akhila Priya than her parents. She said that the TDP leaders are petrified with the response to the YSRCP’s Nandyal public meeting on Thursday.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, YSRCP leader said that TDP leaders used abusive words like “Pshyco”, “Maniac” to describe Jagan and even threatened to see the opposition leader’s end.

Roja asked questioned “what happened to the Chandrababu’s election promise of including Kapus in BC?”. She accused the TDP government for obscuring DWCRA women. She said that the voters are ready to teach TDP a lesson.

Is switching loyalties a strategy of Silpa Mohan Reddy?

Winning an assembly seat with the help of opposition party and later switching sides to the ruling party hoping to get a place in the cabinet was a strategy followed by Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. After 2014 elections, more than twenty legislators defected to TDP after winning from YSR Congress Party.

Looks like a similar strategy will be followed by Silpa Mohan Reddy who is all set to join the YCP on Wednesday, 14thJune in the presence of President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. Following the meeting with followers and activists on Monday, a frustrated Silpa officially made the announcement and censured TDP. He said that they faced a lot of trouble in TDP and even welcomed Bhuma family into the party despite differences. He said that TDP did not recognise his services but extended preferential treatment to defectors. Jagan who has been targeting Chandrababu, purportedly welcomed Silpa.

Bhuma Nagi Reddy, who won in 2014 from YCP switched to TDP hoping a ministerial berth. But due to his untimely death, his daughter Akhila Priya became Tourism Minister. Shilpa who lost Nandyala seat to Bhuma with a very less margin has been aspiring for the seat ever since. But the minister has been claiming that the seat belongs to her family.

On the contrary, this is visibly a strategy especially with Chandrababu Naidu delaying the announcement of candidates. It is apparent that, Silpa is likely to return to TDP after the by poll. What’s surprising is Jagan welcoming the TDP leader into the party, especially with continuous defections taking place in YCP. With a lot of political drama, all eyes are set on Nandyal assembly by-poll.

Kala Venkata Rao builds peace with warring Bhuma, Silpa groups

0

Vijayawada: The ruling Telugu Desam Party in the State seems to have built peace between the two warring groups in Kurnool district over the Nandyal Assembly by-election. TDP AP unit president and Minister K Kala Venkata Rao held several rounds of talks with the leaders of the two groups in his office on Saturday. Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya represented the Bhuma family, while Silpa Mohan Reddy represented the Silpa family. The TDP had also held talks with Nandyal MP S P Y Reddy to bring the unanimity among the leaders. After day long talks, the warring Bhuma and Silpa families took a step backward and agreed to leave the selection of candidate to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Interestingly, the two families have agreed to work together for the party’s victory in the elections whoever is the candidate. Silpa Mohan Reddy, who had earlier threatened to quit the party if ticket is denied, changed his plans now and agreed to be with the party and work for its victory this time. Bhuma Akhila Priya, who had already taken one step backward and did not announce the candidate on April 24, the death anniversary of her mother Sobha Nagi Reddy. The Bhuma family too had agreed to work for the party leaving the candidature issue to the party chief.

During a brief interaction with the media after the initial talks, Silpa Mohan Reddy said he would stay with the party in the larger interests of the Constituency. He further said he would leave the decision to the party chief but insisted that the Bhuma family should work for his victory if his name is cleared. He also promised to work if the party chief picked up a candidate from the Bhuma family.

The two warring families have finally left the decision to Chandrababu Naidu, giving a sigh of relief to the party leadership. Kala Venkata Rao, who took the initiative of holding consultations with the leaders, said that the differences were resolved and the leaders would work together for the victory of the party.

Silpa Mohan Reddy is firm on contesting Nandyal seat

0

Vijayawada: Telugu Desam leader and former MLA Silpa Mohan Reddy affirmed that he would contest the Nandyal Assembly seat in its by-elections. He told media persons that he would contest the seat to protect and save his supporters in the district.

Mohan Reddy and his brother Chakrapani Reddy met Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at his residence in Undavalli on Wednesday night. The brothers waited for several hours to meet the Chief Minister at Velagapudi secretariat in vain. The two leaders met several ministers too as they were kept waiting from morning and made their claims clear to the TDP leadership.

Even after meeting Chandrababu Naidu, the Silpa brothers said that they were not ready to give up their claim for the Nandyal Assembly seat. “We are contesting the by-election. There is no second thought on it, come what may. We hope the Chief Minister would take a decision in our favour,” said the brothers during their brief interaction with the media while coming out of the meeting with Chandrababu Naidu.

The Silpa family had already made its stand clear to the TDP leadership about its stakes on the Nandyal seat. They went one step ahead and declared that “contesting the by-election is certain and there is no change. The only issue to be cleared is whether we would be contesting on the TDP ticket or YSR Congress ticket or as Independent.”

Though there are no positive signals from the YSR Congress leadership to this statement of the Silpa brothers, it is said that they have already sent feelers to Jaganmohan Reddy. The YSR Congress, which is also equally firm on contesting the seat, is waiting for the TDP squabbles to settle down.

The Silpa brothers are going tough particularly in the light of Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya setting the date, April 24, to announce the name of their candidate for the by-election. Surprisingly, while it is the party president Chandrababu Naidu who is expected to announce the name of the candidate for the election, the two groups are declaring their names giving no room for Chandrababu Naidu, making the battle tougher and interesting too.

Nandyala is all set to be high voltage electoral battle

Vijayawada: Though not decided or declared yet, the by-election to Nandyala Assembly Constituency in Kurnool, is all set to see a high voltage electoral battle. Besides being a tough one between the ruling TDP and Opposition YSR Congress, it is also set to make a few nail biting developments within the ruling TDP.

The by-election is for sure as its sitting MLA Bhuma Nagi Reddy died last month. Though Nagi Reddy was elected on the YSR Congress ticket, he defected to the TDP in his last days. It is for this reason both the YSR Congress and the TDP are staking claim for the seat. The YSR Congress which had won the seat in 2014 elections is firm on winning it again and prove its hold, while the TDP wants to wrest the seat as Bhuma was with it in his last days. However, the two parties are yet to name their candidates and it would be clear only once the Election Commission notifies the schedule.

There is a big internal fight going on within the TDP with the family members of Bhuma Nagi Reddy insisting on having the ticket to the family members on one side and Kurnool senior leader Silpa Mohan Reddy staking claim for the seat. Though it has been a formality in the Telugu States to give the by-election ticket to the family members of the deceased MLA, the practice is all set to be kept aside this time for the MLA had defected in his last days. Having won the seat in 2014, YSR Congress claims for it, while having the MLA in its bag, the TDP too is claiming. For these two reasons, the election is set to be a real battle field and the voters would have tough time to decide. The YSR Congress is strong once again with the Gangula family joining the party after the death of Bhuma Nagi Reddy and thus the party had gained its lost ground.

The ruling TDP is already feeling the heat with Silpa Mohan Reddy being firm on contesting the by-election. He lost the seat to Bhuma Nagi Reddy in the 2014 elections by a small margin of 3,604 votes. Earlier, he had won the seat on Congress ticket for two successive terms, 2004 and 2009. This time too he is mounting pressure on the TDP leadership to give the ticket to him as the seat belonged to him. Moreover the TDP had already compensated the Bhuma family by giving a Cabinet berth to Bhuma Akhila Priya. Mohan Reddy had even threatened to quit the TPD and contest either as Independent or join the YSR Congress. While YSR Congress has not made up its mind on fielding the Silpa family in case he defected, it is said that Silpa Mohan Reddy is firm on contesting the seat, which would give a tough time to the ruling TDP.
