Seemandhra rulers better than KCR: Etela wife Jamuna!

0

Sacked Telangana health minister Etela Rajender’s wife Jamuna, who owns Jamuna Hatcheries, on which KCR’s government has booked land encroachment cases, on Sunday heaped praises on Seemandhra rulers in Undivided Andhra Pradesh until 2014.

Addressing a media conference on Sunday Jamuna said that looking at KCR’s dictatorial type of functioning in Telangana, everyone is today feeling in Telangana that why they fought for Telangana and why they achieved Telangana State.

She said Seemandhra rulers were democratic and allowed Telangana people to fight for Telangana statehood by holding dharnas, agitations on roads but under KCR’s rule in Telangana, no one can question the government and if anyone tries to question KCR, the government is suppressing them and jailing them.

She questioned KCR whether Telangana would have been possible had then CM Kiran Kumar Reddy adopted your style of functioning and whether Osmania University students would have come on to the roads to fight for Telangana if Kiran Kumar Reddy suppressed them with police force. Looking at these suppressions, today everyone feels in Telangana that Seemandhra rulers were better than KCR, she added.

Jamuna said KCR had deployed hundreds of policemen around their residence as well as their Jamuna Hatcheries to frighten them but she said Eatala family will not be cowed down by such threats from KCR.

She made it clear that they will fight till their end to uphold their self-respect but not surrender to KCR’s dictatorial rule.

Reviving fortunes in Telangana: An uphill task for Cong

0

Seven years after formation of Telangana as a separate state, Congress party is still struggling to regain the lost ground in its former stronghold.

The party’s defeat in the recent by-election to Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly constituency shows that its fortunes in the state continue to plummet.

Reeling under defections of a dozen MLAs to ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) since 2018 Assembly polls and series of electoral debacles since, Congress is facing its worst crisis.

The emergence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the main opposition party following its victory in Dubbak Assembly by-election and its impressive performance in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) polls late last year has only added to woes of Congress party.

With the central leadership of the grand old party taking no step to set the house in order in Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), which remained virtually headless following resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy in December last year, the party appears to be in a total disarray.

Political analysts say that bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh by granting statehood to Telangana was itself a political gamble by the Congress to arrest the slide in its traditional stronghold. The party was hoping to remain afloat at least in Telangana by claiming credit for carving out the separate state.

However, TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao dashed its hopes by rejecting the proposal to merge his party with Congress. He decided to maintain the identity of TRS as a political party and vowed to transform newly created state into ‘Bangaru Telangana’ or golden Telangana.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, succeeded in claiming credit for achieving the goal of separate state by winning the public mandate. In 2014 elections, held just before formal bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, TRS won 63 seats in 119-member Telangana Assembly.

The Congress party, which was completely wiped out in Andhra Pradesh due to the public anger over bifurcation, could win 22 seats. However, the party failed to keep its flock together as several of its leaders defected to TRS.

In 2018 Assembly elections, held a few months before the term of the Assembly was to end, Congress faced a disaster. It could win just 19 seats, though it had forged electoral alliance with the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and other TRS opponents.

However, the worst was yet to come for the party. Even before it could gear up for Lok Sabha elections in 2019, it had lost as many as 12 MLAs to the ruling party. Though the party salvaged some pride by winning three Lok Sabha seats, with the reduced strength in Assembly it lost the status of main opposition to Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM), a friendly party of TRS.

The party suffered a huge embarrassment as it failed to retain Huzurnagar Assembly seat, where by-election was necessitated with the resignation of Uttam Kumar Reddy following his election to Lok Sabha.

The TRS wrested the seat from Congress as its candidate S. Saidi Reddy was elected with a huge margin of over 43,000 votes. Uttam’s wife N. Padmavathi Reddy finished a distant runner-up.

It was in September last year that the AICC named Manickam Tagore as new incharge for Telangana, replacing R. C. Khuntia. However, even his appointment could not stop the party’s slide in the state.

The BJP, which became aggressive following its impressive performance in Lok Sabha polls by winning four seats, added to the worries of Congress. Projecting itself as the only viable alternative, the saffron party started making inroads with ‘Mission 2023′.

The BJP wrested Dubbak from TRS to further consolidate itself. The saffron party, which hardly had any presence in the constituency, pushed Congress party to third position.

The Congress party suffered another humiliation a month later as it could win just two seats in 150-member Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). In its best-ever performance in the civic body, the BJP bagged 48 seats to deny the TRS a clear majority.

The emergence of BJP as the main opposition party sent alarm bells ringing. Owning moral responsibility for the defeat, Uttam Kumar Reddy resigned as the party chief.

The party suffered more blows as it lost several leaders to BJP. They included D. K. Aruna, who was later made national vice president of BJP and actress Vijayashanti.

The beleaguered party faced another jolt late last year when its MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy announced that he would quit the Congress and join the BJP soon.

Rajagopal Reddy stated that the BJP is the only alternative to TRS, as the Congress party had failed to put up a strong fight.

If Rajagopal Reddy defects to the BJP, the Congress will be left with just five MLAs in the Assembly.

Former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who resigned TRS to join Congress on the eve of 2018 elections, recently quit Congress party and is now working to bring together non-BJP and non-Congress parties against TRS.

Even after six months, the central leadership of Congress party has not named a new state president. The groupism in the party came to fore with leaders lobbying for the posts publicly targeting each other to mar the prospects of their rivals.

Fearing that change of leadership would impact the party’s chances in Nagarjuna Sagar by-election, the high command delayed naming Uttam Kumar Reddy’s successor.
The Congress party was pinning its hopes on this by-election to revive its fortunes in the state. Its leaders were confident that senior leader and former minister K. Jana Reddy will wrest the seat from TRS to give the party a new hope.

However, Jana Reddy, a seven-time MLA lost by over 18,000 votes to TRS debutant Nomula Bhagat, whose father Nomula Narasimhaiah had defeated the Congress leader in 2018.

Narasimhaiah’s death in December last year caused the vacancy and the by-election was held on April 17.

The only solace for the Congress party was that it finished runners-up and BJP was distant third with its candidate forfeiting his deposit.

Political analysts say while it’s not all over for the Congress party, it is facing an uphill challenge to revive past glory in the country and especially in Telangana.

“The party’s decline at the central stage has weakened its position in this State too. But it can revive its position, and the upcoming elections could be one last opportunity to not lost further ground,” said analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy.

“Congress still has a fixed vote bank in the country, and more so in Telangana. The party has to ensure it does not slip further and lose its loyal cadre to the ruling TRS or the BJP, which aims to occupy at least the position of main opposition in Telangana,” he said.

The analyst says Congress was suffering due to the delay in naming the new leader and lack of a popular face. “Congress needs to first decide on who would be the face of the party in the next elections, bind all leaders together with the common goal to win in the State. The party should try to ensure that no more prominent leaders leave Congress, but if there are any trojan horses in its ranks, they need to be weeded out sooner than later,” he added.

BJP circles are abuzz that Eatala has sought appointment of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP national president JP Nadda for the purpose.

He noted that United Way of Hyderabad mobilised medical supplies worth Rs 80 crore, through the IT industry, during the first wave last year, and in the second wave, it is supporting by way of mobilising funds for 100-bed Project Ashray.

This facility, is meant for Covid patients of mild to moderate symptoms, and is free of cost.

Telangana CM urges junior doctors to call off strike amid Covid

0

Medical services in government-run hospitals in Telangana were affected as junior doctors on Wednesday launched an indefinite strike to press for their demands while Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao appealed to them to immediately call off their protest.

Junior doctors began boycotting Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 elective duties at government teaching and allied hospitals across the state from Wednesday.

Alleging that there is no response to their demands from the government, they threatened to boycott even emergency duties from Thursday.

The Telangana Junior Doctors’ Association (TJUDA) is demanding ex-gratia for the families of those who died in the line of duty. According to them, 34 doctors have lost their lives to Covid while discharging their duties.

The striking doctors are also demanding allotment of beds and free Covid treatment for health care workers and their families at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS).

The association is also demanding implementation of hike in stipends, pending from January 2020 and payment of 10 per cent incentive.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has appealed to junior doctors to immediately call off the strike and return to the duty. He said going on strike during the pandemic is not proper.

Rao, who held a meeting with officials on Covid situation, said that the government is ready to address justified demands of the junior doctors.

While junior doctors were free to raise their demands and discuss them with the government, there was no justification for going on strike on every issue and causing inconvenience to people, and that too during Covid-19 pandemic.

“If the junior doctors’ demands are justified, the government has no objection to solving them. They can bring those demands to the government and get them solved. But it is not proper to abstain from duties now and then under the pretext of strike without even understanding the time and situation and causing inconvenience to people time and again. Moreover, going on strike under the present emergency situation caused by corona… no one will appreciate, not even the people,” he said.

The Medical and Health Department officials brought to the notice of the Chief Minister that junior doctors are getting high stipend compared to other states. Rao enquired about the demands made by the junior doctors. The officials briefed him about the demands and he instructed that they be solved.

The Chief Minister decided to increase the honorarium paid to the senior resident doctors by 15 per cent. The same honorarium will be extended to the medical students who are engaged in Covid duties after their three years of medical course.

He instructed that better medical facilities should be provided to junior doctors and their family members at the NIMS. He directed the officials concerned to take measures so that the ex-gratia amount being extended as per the guidelines should be handed over immediately as per the junior doctors’ demand.

KCR for two-pronged strategy to check Covid spread

1

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday directed officials to implement a two-pronged strategy to curtail the Covid-19 spread in the state.

He asked them to continue fever survey, and distribute medical kits, while also ramping up testing.

Reviewing the Covid situation at a high-level meeting, he said that the on-going fever survey and distribution of medical kits, the first of its kind in the country, is yielding good results and it should be continued.

KCR, as Rao is popularly known, directed the Medical and Health Department to increase the number of Rapid Antigen Test Kits in all the medical centres. He said from Tuesday the number of kits should be increased and if need be, the manufacturers should be asked to increase the production and supply.

He wanted officials to ensure that no one coming to primary health centres is denied a Covid test. “A majority of people who come to take the tests are the poor. Hence don’t deny even a single test. Increase the distribution of medical kits as well as number of tests,” he said.

He directed them to increase Rapid Antigen Test Kits to 50 lakh and distribute them to the PHCs and all the testing labs.

He also reiterated that the funds and spending money should not be any constraint to take measures to control the spread of Corona in the state.

KCR asked Finance Minister Harish Rao to review on the departments such as police, medical and health whose expenditure is increased due to the lockdown and enhance their budget, and also identify the departments whose expenditure is reduced due to the lockdown.

Stating that the government is ready to spend any amount to curtain Covid, he said if necessary, the government would take loans. He said the entire situation is grim due to Corona and black fungus.

The CM also instructed the officials concerned to be on a high alert to face the situation arising out when a third wave occurs.

He suggested that all the beds should be converted into oxygen beds and measures be taken to increase oxygen production in the state to 600 tonnes.

He asked Corona Task Force Team chairman and minister K.T. Rama Rao talk to the vaccine manufacturers to supply the required vaccinations to the state to administer the second dose to the people who are waiting in large numbers in the state.

Stating that the percentage of corona positivity rate is on the decrease, KCR said that “if we can get the percentage to 5, we will be called victorious”.

He called for a study of the situation in places like Delhi where the Corona spread was controlled and if need be, a medical team should visit Delhi.

“So far we are getting good results in reducing percentage of corona. But we have to work to reduce its percentage of spread further. We have to learn from the good experiences and there is nothing wrong in it. Reports suggest that Delhi government is successfully curtailing the spread. Maharashtra also achieved good results in curtailing the spread. Find out what are the other states where the corona spread is curtailing to a large extent and what are the measures and action plan they have taken,” the CM told the officials.

The Medical and Health Department officials informed the CM that for the black fungus patients, 150 beds were allotted in Gandhi Hospital and 250 in the ENT Hospital. He said the bed strength for the black fungus patients should be increased to 1,500 – 1,100 beds in Hyderabad and 400 beds in districts.

KCR wanted all the medicines used in the treatment of black fungus should be made available and orders should be placed for the required numbers. He called for increasing the stock of posaconazole medicine and recruitment of doctors on a war footing to contain the spread of black fungus.

“People from the neighbouring states are coming here for the treatment of Covid and black fungus. The state’s population is four crore. But in the case of corona treatment, it should be counted as 10 crore. It appears that we cannot escape from giving treatment to people coming from other states,” he said.

Official visits Hyderabad crematoriums amid complaints of overcharging

0

A top Telangana government official on Monday made a surprise visit to crematoriums in Hyderabad amid public complaints that caretakers are charging hefty amounts for the last rites.

Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Arvind Kumar visited the crematoriums located in Punjagutta, Bansilalpet and Jubilee Hills to check whether extra money was being charged from people.

To make sure people were not forced to shell out extra money to perform the last rites of their departed, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started displaying the charges at crematoriums last week.

The rate for conducting the last rites on a funeral pyre using wood is Rs 8,000 and the charge for electric cremation is Rs 4,000.

Arvind Kumar also looked into the amenities at the crematoriums and checked the electric cremation facility in Punjagutta as well. He was accompanied by GHMC Khairatabad zonal Commissioner P. Pravinya and other civic officials.

The inspection came amid reports that caretakers of crematoriums in the city were charging anywhere between Rs 25,000 to Rs 70,000 for the last rites as the number of cremations has increased in view of deaths due to Covid-19.

The caretakers are reportedly collecting the charges in cash and not issuing any receipts. Though the rules say that those who die at government hospitals should be cremated free of cost, their families are being make to shell out money.

In view of the complaints of overcharging, the GHMC, apart from fixing the prices for cremations, has also set up help desks at the crematoriums and put up banners on the charges to be collected.

It said that if any citizen finds that crematoriums are collecting more than prescribed charges, they can call on 040-21111111.

0

The leaders of as many as 12 opposition parties across the country on Sunday backed the “All India Black Day” called by farmers organisations on May 26 to protest against the Narendra Modi government’s controversial anti-farm laws.

Among those who supported farmers organisations included Chief Ministers of five states.

Andhra, Telangana CMs playing with people’s lives, says TDP

1

Telugu Desam Party’s Andhra Pradesh unit president K. Atchannaidu on Sunday slammed the YSRCP government for not immediately taking any steps to resolve the problems of the Covid patients who were being prevented from entering Telangana.

Voicing his concern over Covid patients being stopped on the inter-state border, Atchannaidu alleged that the chief ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were playing with the lives of the common people at a time when the Coronavirus epidemic had caused untold suffering.

The TDP leader condemned the lathicharge on the motorists by the Telangana police at Pondugala checkpost.

Atchannaidu alleged that the Telangana police were not allowing Andhra Pradesh vehicles on the border and even threatening the vehicle users if they tried to cross over. He said that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was behaving as if these border problems were not his concern. “It’s like pouring out the problems of the AP people before a deaf man. In no other State in the country, incidents like these are happening,” he said.

Atchanaidu asked whether Telangana was not part of India to deny entry to people from Andhra Pradesh. He said the AP officials were not talking to their Telangana counterparts when such untoward incidents were taking place on the borders. The Governments should explain whether some other laws outside of the Indian constitution were in force in Telangana. They were not showing any humanitarian concerns to the AP patients.

The TDP leader wanted to know how the AP Government would react if the Telangana officials would stop any ruling YSRCP MLA or minister on the borders from going to take emergency treatment in Hyderabad.

Atchannaidu demanded the AP Government to form a task force so as to coordinate with the Telangana officials for resolving the border problems. The TDP would not watch silently if the AP government continued to ignore the patients’ woes on the borders, he added.

Now KCR orders probe against Etela’s son Nitin Reddy

Another complaint is received by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao on the land grabbing issues of ousted health minister Etela Rajender.

Pitla Mahesh Mudiraj, resident of Ravalkol village in Medchel Mandal in Medchel district lodged a complaint that Etela Rajander’s son Etela Nitin Reddy had grabbed his land and requested to render justice.

Mahesh Mudiraj had applied to the CM with a complaint.

Telangana DGP assures seamless essential services during lockdown

1

Telangana police chief M. Mahender Reddy on Sunday assured that food delivery and e-commerce services will be allowed uninterrupted during the ongoing lockdown.

His assurance came after police in Greater Hyderabad beat up several delivery boys and seized their vehicles on Saturday while strictly enforcing the lockdown.

The Director General of Police (DGP) tweeted that he had a review meeting with commissioners of police of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda regarding the several requests flagged with disruption of essential services including food deliveries etc, e-commerce, while tightening of the lockdown.

The police chief said he directed the commissioners to ensure a seamless supply while executing strict lockdown.

Though food delivery and e-commerce are exempted from lockdown norms, the police on Saturday stopped the delivery boys and at several places their vehicles were seized and they were beaten up.

Videos of police personnel raining lathis on delivery boys went viral on social media, triggering public outrage.

Karam Komireddy, a lawyer, lodged a complaint with the State Human Rights Commission against the police for beating up, fining and seizing vehicles of delivery boys of Zomato, UberEATS, Swiggy and Dunzo. When Government Order (GO) permits delivery boys to operate business why is Telangana police resorting to use of unwarranted force, he asked.

Police did not even spare Thalassemia patients and donors. In one case, a Thalassemia patient’s father was fined Rs 1,250 for bringing his ailing daughter and donor for treatment.

Several patients going for blood transfusion and donors were stopped by police and their vehicles were seized, though they showed Thalassemia Society certificates.

Industry and information technology minister K.T. Rama Rao said he received several complaints on the police stopping the food delivery services and others in distress. He promised to discuss with the DGP and resolve the issue.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi thanked Rama Rao for his assurance and urged him to direct the police to implement GO 102.

Owaisi demanded that Thalassemia patients and donors must not be stopped by police.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader hoped that the lockdown would not be extended beyond May 30.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had on Friday directed the police to strictly enforce the lockdown.

Harish, Vinod Kumar step in to isolate Etala in Huzurabad!

1

TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has roped in finance minister T Harish Rao and former MP B Vinod Kumar to take on Eatala Rajender in Huzurabad.

Minister Gangula Kamalakar has been handling Huzurabad affairs ever since KCR dismissed Eatala from his cabinet.

However, KCR is reportedly not happy with Gangula’s efforts in isolating Eatala from TRS leaders and cadre in Huzurabad.

KCR deputed Harish Rao and Vinod Kumar to ensure that none of the local TRS leaders and cadre in Huzurabad go with Eatala and they should continue in TRS.

Harish and Vinod on Saturday held a meeting with local TRS leaders and cadre at ministers quarters in Hyderabad.

They included MPTCs, ZPTCs, ward members, councillors of local bodies in Huzurabad constituency. They managed to convince them to leave Eatala and remain in TRS.

KCR asked Harish and Vinod to tour Huzurabad after lockdown and brace up party leaders and cadre to face bypoll against Etala.
