Ambati Rambabu Vs Vishwa Prasad

1

Pawan Kalyan and Sai Dharam Tej starrer BRO making more noise because of political glitch. The film came into spotlight after Ambati Rambabu took the dialogues of the film personal. Ambati alleged that the film was made on NRI funds and blamed Trivikram for his writing skill. BRO producer Vishwa Prasad responds to Ambati’s comments, he said that the financial allegations made by Ambati are baseless and unwarranted.

Vishwa Prasad claims that the financial deal was completely between Zee Studios and his own production house. He cleared that the Shyambabu character in the film has no resemblance with the Rambabu character. However, the war that arose between YSRCP and Janasena took BRO into a political bind. Today Janasena party workers have released a poster of a film with titles like SSS, like how Ambati did yesterday on Pawan Kalyan.

Ambati Rambabu takes a dig on Trivikram

1

Andhra Pradesh Minister Ambati Rambabu conducted a media conference and made sensational comments on Trivikram, Pawan Kalyan and BRO film. There was a buzz going on social media that Pawan Kalyan passed political satires on Ambati Rambabu in his recent offering BRO. Ambati responded to the comments and he alleged Pawan Kalyan for using the names of Rambabu and Shyambabu. He also warned Trivikram saying that he will face to consequences.

Amabti Rambabu said he is planning to make a film along with a few other politicians. He indirectly explained the story indicating that the film is based on Pawan Kalyan. Ambati suggested a few titles of the film as, Pellillu – Petakulu, Tali- Egatali, Bahubarya Praveenudu, MRO – Marriages, Relationships and Offenders. Ambati Ram Babu also alleged that Pawan Kalyan is unable to satisfy both films and politics, which leads to failure. He gave an example of Sr NTR and Chiranjeevi, who were far from movies for a while when they dedicated themselves to complete politics.

Analyzing Ambati Rambabu’s Twitter Activity: Work vs. Mudslinging

1

Ambati Rambabu, the Water Resources Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is well-known for his active presence on social media. Recently, he made headlines due to a supposed spoof character based on him in Pawan Kalyan’s latest movie “BRO.” Let’s take a closer look at his Twitter statistics, which reveal interesting insights into his working style.

Rambabu has been a controversial figure in AP politics, with various audio and video leaks circulating on social media, raising questions about his character. Examining his Twitter activity over the past 90+ days (from May 1st till date), we find some intriguing observations. He has posted around 33 tweets during this period, yet not a single tweet discusses his ministry’s accomplishments or the work he has done.

Surprisingly, more than 50% of his tweets (17 out of 33) are focused on criticizing or mudslinging Pawan Kalyan. He has tagged Pawan Kalyan’s official handle (@PawanKalyan) 11 times, drawing criticism from netizens who believe he should prioritize his ministerial responsibilities over attacking political rivals. Even his recent tweet about the collections of the “BRO” movie faced backlash, with people reminding him that there are many websites to track such collections and suggesting he use his time wisely for the welfare of the public.

It remains to be seen whether Ambati Rambabu will utilize his Twitter platform which is followed by 80k people to highlight the achievements of his ministry or continue engaging in political skirmishes with Pawan and other political rivals. We need to wait and see.

Andhra court orders police to file case against minister

0

A court in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday directed police to register a case against state Irrigation Minister Ambati Rambabu for sale of tickets in the name of YSR Sankranti Lucky Draw.

A court in Guntur passed the order on a petition by a leader of Jana Sena Party (JSP). The petitioner moved the court after the police did not take any action on his complaint.

The court asked the police to register a case and launch an investigation.

JSP Guntur district unit President G. Venkateshwara Rao alleged that in the name of YSR Sankranti Lucky draw large number of tickets are being sold to people in Sattenapalle constituency represented by the minister.

The JSP leader, who had lodged a complaint with the police, said though the lottery was banned in the state, tickets were being sold to people in the name of lucky draw. According to him, the minister himself urged people to buy the tickets.

The complainant said the leaders of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) were making beneficiaries of various government schemes buy the tickets. He also claimed that services of government appointed volunteers were used to sell the tickets.

Don’t dance to Babu’s tunes, Ambati tells Pawan

1

Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu, on Saturday took strong exception to the statements made by Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan in Ippatam village of Tadepalli-Mangalagiri municipal corporation.

Speaking to the media, the Minister discounted Pawan Kalyan’s allegations of the government demolishing houses in Ippatam village. He also ridiculed the allegations of political vendetta in the government action.

The Minister said that marking for road widening was done in February this year and notices to the house owners were given in April. While the Jana Sena formation meeting was held in March, the survey for road widening in all the villages which were made part of the new municipal corporation was done in February.

The Minister also said that not a single house was demolished in the village by the officials. The officials have only pulled down the compound walls. Rambabu advised Pawan Kalyan to use his own intellect and not to depend on the programme chart given by TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu or Eenadu chief Ramoji Rao.

At another media conference, Minister for Housing, Jogi Ramesh, discounted the Jana Sena chief’s allegations against the government. He took strong exception to Pawan Kalyan’s allegations that the YSR Congress had conspired to kill him and hired assassins paying Rs 250 crore.

The Minister said that the Hyderabad police have investigated the case and found the charge baseless. He wondered why anyone would pay money to eliminate Pawan Kalyan who acts on remuneration.

The Minister also advised the Jana Sena chief to clear the cheque of Rs 50 lakh that was promised to the Ippatam villagers, before making any statement. He also alleged that Pawan Kalyan had visited the village as per the directions of Chandrababu Naidu.

Ambati says Ramoji Rao is TDP president

0

AP Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu on Tuesday, alleged that Eenadu Group chairman Cherukuri Ramoji Rao is the real president of the TDP. He said that Ramoji Rao had been running the TDP from behind the screen.

Referring to the adverse reports in the media about the Polavaram Project, the Minister alleged that Ramoji Rao had been writing against the Polavaram Project and the State government because the contract was withdrawn from Ramoji Rao’s relatives.

The Minister said that the contract was given by the TDP government on nomination basis. However, after the YSR Congress formed the government in the state, the contract was withdrawn and given to another company on reverse tendering system in open tender. The Eenadu group chairman was upset with the government withdrawing the contract from his relative and hence writing negatively against the project and the government.

The Minister further said that Ramoji Rao had made Chandrababu Naidu a dummy leader and was running even the day-to-today affairs of the TDP. He also alleged that Ramoji Rao was selecting the candidates for the TDP for the next elections.

In a strong urge to defeat the Jagan Mohan Reddy government, Ramoji Rao was organising pro-TDP forces in the state, the Minister said. He said that some media houses in Andhra Pradesh have kept the agenda to defeat the YSR Congress in the next election.

However, Rambabu asserted that people were watching these political conspiracies of the TDP and its media. He also claimed that people who have been receiving the benefits of the government for the past three years would be able to understand these conspiracies and would stand against them.

Ambati Rambabu appealed to the people to defeat these forces that have been trying to destabilise the government through fake news and false campaigns. He also wanted the people to back Jagan Mohan Reddy government which had been working to improve the lives of the poor and neglected sections.

Health Minister doesn’t perform surgeries, says Ambati

1

AP Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu, took strong exception to his critics on his knowledge in irrigation projects and water resources. He admitted that he has no technical knowledge of the water resources and the irrigation projects. However, he said he has the basic knowledge and common sense to understand the issues.

He was reacting to the criticism of former TDP minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, who alleged that the Minister doesn’t know the basics of irrigation projects and wondered how he would handle the prestigious Polavaram Project.

Ambati Rambabu said that Devineni Umamaheswara Rao’s comments were uncalled for and derogatory. He said that a minister doesn’t need to be a technical expert. “The health minister doesn’t perform surgeries in the hospitals,” the minister said.

While promising to acquire technical knowledge about the irrigation projects soon, the minister advised them to stop making it an issue. He said that not many politicians have technical knowledge of the portfolios they hold in democracy.

The Minister dared the TDP leader to explain why the TDP regime did not complete the Polavaram project by December 2018 as claimed on the floor of the Assembly. He said Devineni Umamaheswara Rao had announced in the Assembly that the Polavaram Project would be completed by December 2018 and asked the former minister to explain why they could not complete it.

Ambati Rambabu blamed the TDP regime for their improper handling of the Polavaram Project. He said that the TDP had spent Rs 400 crore on diaphragm wall construction, but forgot to have a spillway to take the flood waters. Due to this, he said that the diaphragm wall was damaged and is now being looked into by the experts from the Central government.

Neither son, nor foster son can defeat Jagan, says Ambati

1

Minister for Irrigation Ambati Rambabu pooh-poohed the tall claims of Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu of defeating the ruling YSR Congress. While Pawan gave a call to the people, the other day at Chintalapudi of Eluru district, Naidu and his son Lokesh have been predicting the defeat of Jagan in the next election.

Rambabu said that “neither son (Lokesh) nor the foster son (Pawan Kalyan) would be able to defeat Jagan. He further said that people in the state were happy with Jagan Mohan Reddy’s governance and would give him a mandate for one more term.

He spurned Pawan Kalyan’s claim of working in the direction of Narasapuram MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju. He said that Pawan Kalyan always works under the direction of some others as he doesn’t have his own strategy.

The Minister said that Jana Sena has no own agenda and wondered how the party would defeat the YSR Congress, which has Navaratnalu as its agenda. Stating that Pawan Kalyan works under the direction of Chandrababu Naidu, the Minister wondered how the Jana Sena chief is working under the direction of Raghurama Krishnam Raju.

Rambabu asked the son Lokesh and the foster son, Pawan Kalyan to win their own seats in the next elections, keeping aside the dream of defeating Jagan Mohan Reddy and the YSR Congress. “Let the son and the foster son win the seats where they contest. They were defeated in the last election,” the Minister recalled.

TDP govt wasted Rs 400 cr in Polavaram, says Ambati

1

Did the TDP government between 2014 and 2019 waste money on the Polavaram Project? Government headed by Chandrababu Naidu wasted Rs 400 crore in the project works, alleged Minister for Water Resources, Ambati Rambabu.

Rambabu, who assumed office last week, is holding review meetings with the officials on Polavaram and other irrigation projects in the state. The Minister said that the TDP government had constructed the coffer dam and diaphragm wall for the project without completing the spillway.

As the spillway was not ready, the heavy flood water caused damage to both the diaphragm wall and the coffer dam, the Minister said. The damage is estimated at Rs 400 crore, the Minister added. The present government would require Rs 2000 crore to restore the damaged portions of the project, he said.

He also alleged that the TDP government showed interest only in the works which would give them commission. Rambabu also blamed the TDP government and Chandrababu Naidu of looting the government exchequer in the name of Pattiseema. He said that the TDP government had used the Polavaram right canal which was completed by 80 per cent during late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s tenure.

Rambabu also said that Chandrababu Naidu has no irrigation project to his credit. Despite serving the state as chief minister for over 14 years, Chandrababu Naidu did not construct any irrigation project, the minister said.

It is to be seen whether the TDP would respond to this allegation or ignore it. It is also to be seen whether TDP senior leader and former water resources minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, replies to the new irrigation minister.

Is there a conspiracy to ruin Ambati Rambabu’s political career?

0

One leaked video, it appears, is all set to ruin the political career of YSRCP biggie and Sattenapalli MLA Ambati Rambabu. A leaked video wherein a male voice, purported to be that of Ambati and a woman, who appears to be a pimp and a tout, is doing rounds on the social media. In this audio clip, the male voice is heard asking for a body massage and other ‘services.’

The video has gone viral at a time when Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is contemplating a cabinet reshuffle. The reshuffle promises to be big and at least 50 per cent of the ministers would be replaced. Rambabu was widely expected to get a key ministry for himself. In fact, he was a strong contender even in 2019 especially in view of his services to the party. But, caste considerations have kept him out of the government. He was hoping to become a minister this time.

In fact, Rambabu is no stranger to such controversies. In 2011 too, there was a similar video. However, Rambabu managed to expose the media house that broke the story and managed to escape unscathed. This time too, will he be able to come unscathed this time? Though he has filed a complaint in collection with the audio leak, there are doubts whether he will be lucky this time too and get a ministerial berth? Or is there within the YSRCP who is plotting against Rambabu? Is there someone planning to ruin Rambabu’s political career?

Conspiracy on to deny ministry to Ambati Rambabu?

YSRCP senior leader and its biggest voice against the opponents Ambati Rambabu has landed in a soup once again. A purported audio of a conversation between Ambati Rambabu and a woman identified as Sukanya is doing rounds on the social media. This audio clip is now threatening to hit at his chances of becoming a minister.

The audio has a male voice which asks for ‘favours’ in lieu of money from a woman. The woman is seen offering ‘special favours’ on payment of Rs 25000. The hushed tone of the voice shows that both knew each other. The tone and tenor of the conversation appears to be intimate. The audio has now gone viral on social media. A stung Ambati Rambabu released video clips of himself where he denied that the voice in the audio clip was his. He further said that this was a conspiracy aimed at maligning him. He said he would lodge a complaint with the police over this ‘purported audio leak.’

Interestingly, earlier too, there was a similar allegation against Ambati Rambabu. It was published in a daily newspaper known to be pro-TDP. It was a sting operation and was conducted way back in 2011. Rambabu then filed a complaint and proactively worked to snuff out rumours. He obtained restraining orders from the High Court to bar the airing of the programme. The woman in the video too backtracked and alleged that she was blackmailed to insinuate against Ambati.

But, this time around things appear to be different. The timing of the controversy shows that there is an attempt to prevent him from becoming a minister in the upcoming cabinet reshuffle. It could be part of a plan to keep him out of the list of probables for the ministerial berths.

Ambati call for ban on doctors exploiting Corona

1

YSRCP firebrand MLA Ambati Rambabu has unleashed a raging attack on the doctors for the unchecked exploitation of the Covid patients in the Telugu States. It was so horrifying that some hospitals were coercing and extorting Rs. 15 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh without giving formal bills.

Mr. Rambabu gave a call to ban such doctors from the society altogether as they were a burden on the nation. The licences of such hospitals should be cancelled forthwith. Strong action should be taken against the labs which were collecting huge amounts from the patients.

The YCP MLA’s comments came amidst the growing reports on the flagrant harassment of the Covid patients by the hospitals in both the States. The High Courts were expressing their anger over the exploitation but the hospitals were not relenting.

The Central Government has also passed specific guidelines that only severe cases of patients should be admitted at the hospitals for Corona treatment. The mild and moderate cases should be treated in home isolation alone. However, there was no mechanism to strongly implement this.

Ambati uses Jr NTR name to corner Naidu

4

Chandrababu Naidu’s current tour in Kuppam triggered much political heat. In a very shrewd way, Naidu is doing road shows and addressing a series of meetings there for the last two days. He has turned the crisis posed by the YCP in the panchayat election into an opportunity to go to the people in his constituency now. Despite threats from the YCP leaders, Naidu was attacking CM Jagan Reddy by calling him a coward and the like.

Amid rising heat, YCP MLA Ambati Rambabu launched a counter-attack and used the Jr NTR name to corner the TDP chief. This time, Ambati has straightaway said that Chandrababu Naidu has adopted use and throw policy towards Jr NTR. He was saying that it was the TDP leaders alone who were asking for the coming of Jr NTR for the campaigning.
Ambati further said that what was defeated in Kuppam was not democracy but Chandrababu Naidu. It was only after the people gave a shock to him, Naidu was now touring every street there.

The YCP MLA also mocked that Naidu’s situation has come to such a level that he had to use the photos of Balakrishna and Jr NTR now. He further asked how Naidu and Lokesh could announce manifesto for civic polls when they did not implement their manifesto when in power.

Poll app aimed at helping TDP in panchayat polls: YSRCP

1

Senior YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Ambati Rambabu alleged on Thursday that the election monitoring app, ‘Watch’, launched by State Election Commissioner (SEC) Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, is part of a plan to help the Telugu Desam Party win in the ensuring rural local bodies elections.

“There is no need to believe the app,” said the Sattenapalle MLA, disagreeing with Kumar over his comments on unanimous election in some places.

He said that village panchayats, which settled for unanimous elections, should be appreciated as they chose to have no disagreements or disputes.

Assailing ‘Watch’, Rambabu reminded that in 2020, a highly controversial letter, allegedly drafted in the Telugu Desam Party office, was forwarded by Kumar to the Union Home Secretary to undermine Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The YSRCP leader faulted Kumar for visiting a panchayat election contestant in East Godavari district following her husband’s death and expressed his surprise as to how an SEC could do such a thing.

Rambabu also criticised TDP national president N. Chandrababu Naidu for the comments he made after meeting the party’s spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram, who was attacked by unidentified miscreants on Wednesday.

Besides Rambabu, YSRCP leader Lella Appi Reddy has already submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission about ‘Watch’.

Is Ramesh Kumar a pilot to Nara Lokesh? asks Ambati

2

YCP controversial MLA Ambati Rambabu has launched a biting attack on the TDP on the issue of the Gollalagunta killing in East Godavari district. In his opinion, the Opposition was needlessly politicising the death. Facts were yet to come out and investigation was still going on. The YCP Government was fully confident that the police would make all out efforts to catch the culprits in the murder of sarpanch candidate’s husband Srinivas Reddy.

At the same time, Ambati targetted and asked why State Election Commissioner Ramesh Kumar visited Gollalagunta village even before the police completed their investigation. Has Ramesh Kumar gone there as a pilot to Nara Lokesh? Will Ramesh Kumar visit every village regardless of which party activist would get killed?

Ambati demanded Ramesh Kumar to explain why he was not visiting Nimmada where Atchannaidu has threatened the ruling party leader not to contest the polls. It was clear that the SEC was acting in a biased manner in favour of Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP.

Ambati demands Naidu to break silence on Akhila Priya

4

The TDP raised a hue and cry when former Minister and AP TDP President K. Atchannaidu was arrested in the ESI scam case. Atchannaidu was kept in jail for many days till he could finally get bail. Now, the YCP is asking why the TDP is keeping silent on the arrest of Akhila Priya in Hyderabad.
YCP MLA Ambati Rambabu demanded Chandrababu Naidu to break his silence on the Akhila Priya arrest. Why had the TDP chief lost his voice? He said that the TDP chief had called Atchannaidu when the latter was arrested in the corruption scam. Naidu also went to the Guntur General Hospital to visit him. But now, Naidu was not calling on Akhila Priya.
The YCP MLA accused Naidu of following double standards. The TDP chief had tried to take political mileage out of Atchannaidu’s arrest since it took place in Andhra Pradesh. But, he was afraid of raising his voice in respect of the arrest of Akhila Priya since it happened in Telangana.
Ambati has said that the TDP chief is afraid of Telangana CM K Chandrasekhara Rao. It was just because of the Vote for Note case. The YCP leaders are launching an all out attack on Naidu who is undoubtedly not in a position to defend Akhila Priya in the latest kidnapping case.

YSRCP is ‘Gita, Quran, Bible’ party: Rambabu

10

Senior Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leader Ambati Rambabu on Wednesday lashed out at Telangana BJP chief Bandi Sanjay for attempting to polarise Andhra Pradesh on religious lines and stated that “YSRCP is a party of the Bhagavad Gita, Quran and the Bible”.

“Yes, ours is a Bible party, Bhagavad Gita party and Quran party. YSRCP is an amalgamation of these three. It is a party of all religions,” said Rambabu.

He castigated Sanjay for dividing people on the communal lines and told him that the ruling party will never become like Sanjay’s party.

Rambabu also reminded the saffron leader that it was allegedly Nara Chandrababu Naidu who called the seven hills abode of Lord Venkateswara as ‘two hills’, which was corrected by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy through a government order as seven hills.

He admonished the Karimnagar MP and told him to get his facts right.

“Who is this Bandi Sanjay? I am not understanding what he is talking. There is no place in AP for a political party which tries to benefit by provoking castes and religions,” asserted the YSRCP leader, even as religious politics is raging in the southern state which was seldom saw this kind of a toxic atmosphere.

Rambabu highlighted that BJP would have won elections in other states using religion but that tactic would not succeed in Andhra Pradesh.

“It doesn’t work here. This state is being ruled by Jagan Mohan Reddy. This state is being ruled by YSRCP which looks after all castes and religions with equal justice,” he stressed.

Referring to the Ramateertham incident, he said the investigation will reveal everything, including who defaced Lord Ram’s idol.

He also criticised Telugu Desam Party’s (TDP) national general secretary and Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh for accusing Reddy over a person’s murder, believed to be a TDP supporter.

Ramababu ridiculed Lokesh that he was not even qualified to speak about Reddy, considering he didn’t even win an election.

“Talk when you win somewhere about the person who single-handedly won 151 seats,” Rambabu said, asking Lokesh how long he will use his father’s name and fame.

HC asks govt to file counter in Ambati illegal mining case

1

The AP High Court on Wednesday asked the mines department to file a report on the illegal mining at Kondamedu in Guntur district.

The HC heard a public interest litigation (PIL) filed against YSRCP Sattenpalli MLA Ambati Rambabu and his associates alleging that he was involved in illegal limestone mining in survey numbers 358/38a, 382/2, 412, 413 and 414 of Kondamedu. The petitioner contended that the state exchequer lost crores of revenue due to illegal mining and the district administration has failed to take any action as Ambati Rambabu since he belongs to the ruling party.

The mines department filed a counter denying any illegal mining. On this, the High Court asked the mines department to file a counter including all the respondents mentioned by the petitioners. The court also asked the private petitioners to file their counter. The HC gave four weeks time for the mines department and private petitioners to file their counters.

YSRCP activists P Srinivasa Reddy and N Ramaiah of Kondamodu village alleged that Ambati Rambabu was indulging in illegal mining of limestone at Kondamodu village under Sattenapalli Assembly constituency and they filed a writ petition in the High Court demanding inquiry into illegal mining.

Ambati Rambabu test positive for Covid-19

2

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had recently stated that every single person will get Covid-19, a ludicrous statement ever made by any political leader so far.

One may not be sure if every single individual will contract the infection. Surely, an increasing number of Jagan’s MLAs are testing positive for the virus.

YSR Congress Rajya Sabha MP V Vijayasai Reddy has been infected with Covid-19. The Rajya Sabha MP has confirmed the same on Twitter handle. He is currently undergoing treatment in Apollo Hospitals in Hyderabad.

Sattenapalli MLA Ambati Rambabu was tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday. However, in the case of Ambati Rambabu conflicting results emerged. Tests conducted twice at Sattenapalli government hospital gave two different results – one negative, the other positive. The Sattenpalli MLA has quarantined himself at home and is undergoing medical treatment. At least, 80 positive cases were reported in Sattenapalli so far.

Ambati Rambabu, a staunch critic of former chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, had once hit out at the Opposition parties for making false accusations against the government and creating panic among people about the pandemic.

Several YSR Congress legislators have been infected with the Coronavirus in AP. Tenali MLA Annabathuni Siva Kumar and Ponnur MLA Kilari Venkata Rosaiah were tested positive for Covid-19 earlier.

Andhra Pradesh has reported a total of 4,944 new Covid-19 cases and death of 62 Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours. The state now has 58,668 cases.

SC verdict loss of face for SEC: Ambati

0

Interpreting the Supreme Court verdict on SEC’s postponement of civic body elections by six weeks in Andhra Pradesh, YSRC MLA from Sattenpalli Ambati Rambabu hailed the SC directive as a victory for the Constitution and democracy and a loss of face for the State Election Commission.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, he said the verdict was a slap on the face of SEC as the court had directed the election commission to consult the state government six weeks after. He also said that the court had pulled up the SEC that it had stretched its jurisdiction and questioned how the model code of conduct will continue if the elections were postponed. “It is a slap on SEC. The court had ordered the SEC to lift the code. The SEC was pulled up for trying to politicise the elections,” Ramababu said.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court upheld the state election commission’s decision to postpone the civic body elections in the state. Hearing a petition filed by the Jagan government, the apex court observed that the SEC as a constitutional authority was well within its jurisdiction to defer polls and that its decision was supreme.

However, in a reprieve to the YSRCP government the Supreme Court gave a directive to the SEC to partially relax the model code of conduct as the elections were postponed and further observed that the state government can continue with its existing welfare schemes or projects with a rider that no freebies should be announced during the six weeks period. Further, it had directed the state government cannot announce new welfare schemes or projects during the six week period and consult the SEC to ensure there was no model code of conduct.

The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the State Election Commission order postponing elections to rural and urban local bodies for six weeks while a private petition was also filed in the High Court on the same issue.

Elections to mandal parishad and zilla parishad territorial constituencies, the second and the third tier of the panchayat raj system, were originally scheduled to be conducted on March 21. Municipalities and municipal corporations were to go to polls on March 23 while gram panchayat elections were originally slated for March 27 and 29.
