Govt advisor busy in Kadapa as Jagan battles PRC protests

0

He has been appointed as the Chief Minister’s adviser for a specific purpose. But, when the CM needed him most, he was found busy attending felicitations. Not just that. He even tried to distance himself from the very issue in which he was supposed to assist the CM. While the issue became a burning one, he was away in Kadapa.

We are talking about AP Government’s advisor Chandrasekhara Reddy. He was an employees union leader and has great influence on the employees due to his work. CM Jagan wanted his advice on matters of employees. So, he was appointed as the adviser to the Government of Andhra Pradesh. But soon after his appointment, the issue of PRC for the government employees cropped up and the employees began raising their voice.

Recently, the government employees staged a five-hour sit-in in the secretariat demanding immediate announcement and implementation of the PRC. This was unprecedented as usually the union leaders hold talks with the government and solve their issues. But this time, the employees staged protests without even bothering to talk to the government. Strangely, the advisor appointed for the specific purpose of assisting the government was found missing.

Reddy was busy attending felicitation functions in Kadapa district. He neither advised the government nor held talks with the employees unions. Sources say that except AP NGOs association, several other unions were opposed to Reddy and hence Reddy did not have any leverage with these unions. So, he chose to keep off from the whole issue. Thus, the advisor did not involve himself in an area where the government needed him most.

Pawan Kalyas’s Blow-hot-Blow-Col policy: no support then, full support now

0

Is Pawan Kalyan again sending conciliatory signals to estranged friend BJP? The other day, he gave a call to the voters of the state to vote for Jana Sena. Interestingly, he asked the people to vote for the BJP candidates wherever they are in the fray. He said the BJP was a friendly party and that the Jana Sena was in alliance with the BJP.

This is being considered quite significant as Pawan Kalyan did not back the BJP in the recent Badvel bypolls. Despite the BjP claims that Pawan Kalyan will campaign for it candidate, Pawan Kalyan did not even issue a statement. But now, he has asked the people to vote for the BJP in places where it is contesting. Even during the recent protests on the Vizag Steel Plant, Pawan Kalyan stopped short of criticising the BJP. He only targeted the YSRCP.

The BJP is clearly happy with this development. Sources say that Pawan has come to the conclusion that to take on YSRCP he has to be pally with the BJP, which is in power at the Centre. Sources also revealed that the Jana Sena is interested in having an alliance with the TDP also. But, he feels that it can happen sometime later.

Sources say that Pawan Kalyan wants to repeat the 2014 winning alliance, which included TDP, BJP and Jana Sena. But, he feels that there is a need to keep the surprise element. He feels the alliance can come true at the right time.

Chairman of smart city corporation has no chair to sit on

0

AP chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is on a post-giving spree. He has created corporation after corporation and nominated party leaders to these posts. While this is being tom-tommed as a major achievement at accommodating leaders and various communities, those appointed to these ‘coveted’ posts have a different tale to tell.

A majority of these corporations do not have own offices. Not just that! Some don’t even have a chair for the ‘chairman’ to sit on. Take the case of Chandana Nageswar of Rajahmundry. It has been three months he was appointed as the chairman of the Rajahmundry Smart City Corporation. But, he has not yet taken oath. The reason? He is yet to be allotted a chair to sit on. Why was no seat allotted? It is because the State Government has not issued a GO in favour of him. While all other smart city chairpersons in the state took oath of office, Chandana Nageswar is yet to do.

Sources say that the Central Government has not yet been designated as a smart city. Though the YSRCP has tried many a time to get Rajahumundry designated a smart city, it did not bear fruit. So, Nageswar is the smart city chairperson of a city that is not really a ‘smart city.’ So, there is no allocation for the corporation. Since the Centre has not recognised Rajahmundry as a smart city, the State government cannot issue a GO claiming that Nageswar is the chairman of the Smart City.

There were reportedly pressures on the Rajahmundry municipal commissioner to allocate the deputy mayor’s chamber to Nageswar. But, the rules do not allow this. Sources say Nageswar is peeved by all this and there are reports that he is actively considering to resign from the post which he has not taken oath so far.

Kodumuru turns a battlefield as YSRCP men attack cop

0

Though the YSRCP has turned out to be an unstoppable juggernaut elsewhere, it has been limping and floundering in one constituency in Rayalaseema. In Kodumuru assembly constituency, it has conceded considerable ground to the TDP. In the local body elections too, the TDP performance was a shade better.

The reason? The intense group fight within the YSRCP. The YSRCP is a deeply divided house in Kodumuru constituency of Kurnool district. In Kodumuru, sitting MLA Dr Sudhakar and constituency incharge Harshavardhan Reddy are not getting along well. Both the leaders are trying to undercut each other. The differences have only intensified on the issues such as illicit liquor, illegal sand quarying and even monthly vasools for the cops.

The situation has come to such a pass that that two factions clashed bitterly on the occasion of the yatra organised to mark the completion of four years of YS Jagan’s Praja Sankalpa Yatra. The yatra was organised by the MLA and the rival group created a ruckus over it. Meanwhile, some supporters of the MLA, suspected to be involved in illicit liquor cases, were arrested by the local police. The MLA went with his supporters and forcibly released the arrested persons. In another incident, some followers of the MLA were allegedly collecting vasools in the name of the police. When the police tried to stop them, they attacked the cops, including the SI.

Curiously, the party leadership has not tried to curb the intense factionism. Despite the clashes, the leadership has done nothing to stop them. Though these things are tarnishing the party’s image in Kodumuru, no concrete steps are being taken to set the house in order.

AP High Court’s serious comments on Jagan’s ‘police raj’!

0

Opposition parties and civil society organisations in Andhra Pradesh have long been complaining that YSRCP government headed by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is using ‘police force’ to stifle the voice of public and opposition parties and to harass his political opponents.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court’s serious observations on ‘police raj’ under YSRSP regime indicate that the concerns raised by opposition parties and civil society organisations were correct.

The High Court on Thursday said that the notices issued by Palamaneru DSP to opposition parties directing them to take prior permission from police department to campaign in elections for Kuppam municipality reflects the sad state of affairs at present in Andhra Pradesh.

Kuppam is the home constituency of TDP chief N.Chandrababu Naidu and Jagan government went all out to defeat TDP in Kuppam municipal elections.

It deployed thousands of YSRCP leaders and cadre in Kuppam who virtually laid siege to Kuppam and not allowing opposition parties to campaign and even to file nominations.

Palamaneru DSP has warned opposition parties that if they campaign in Kuppam with prior permission from the police department, he will initiate stringent action against them under the Indian Police Act.

The High Court wondered even the State Election Commission cannot issue such notices and shocked at the notices issued by the DSP.

The High Court also wondered whether the DSP may issue notices asking opposition parties to take prior permission from police department even to file nominations.

The court stayed the notices issued by DSP and allowed TDP leaders to campaign in Kuppam municipality.

It directed Chittoor SP to take an explanation for DSP on such notices and submit a report to the High Court.

The court adjourned the case to Monday.

YSRCP declares candidates for Legislative Council polls

0

Andhra Pradesh’s ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has announced its candidates for the November 29 elections to the three Legislative Council seats.

P. Vikrant, Ishaq and Govind Reddy are the candidates announced by the party on Wednesday night.

Advisor to the state government, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy declared the names after their candidatures were cleared by Chief Minister and YSRCP President Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Former District Cooperative Central Bank (DCCB) chairman, Vikrant, is from north Andhra region and belongs to the Turpu Kapu sub-caste.

Ishaq’s candidature was announced by the party as per an assurance given earlier to the minorities by the Chief Minister. He is a Market Yard Chairman in Nandyal in Kurnool district of Rayalaseema region.

The third candiate, D.C. Govind Reddy is a former MLC. He is from Badvel in the YSR Kadapa district, also in Rayalaseema.

Talking about the names of other canditates, the state government advisor said: “The party will also announce the names of 11 candidates for Legislative Council elections for local authorities’ constituencies, in a day or two. Also, proper representation to various social groups will be given while finalizing the candidates.”

He said 50 per cent of the candidates for elections to 14 Legislative Council seats from MLA quota and local authorities constituencies will be from backward classes, scheduled castes and minorities.

“In every election, YSRCP has given 50 per cent tickets to these communities. YSRCP leader Jagan Mohan Reddy will take a decision for the remaining 11 seats of the upper house in line with the same policy,” he said.

Out of the 18 sitting members of the Council belonging to YSRCP, 11 are from Backward Classes, Scheduled Castes and Minorities.

The last date of filing nominations is November 16. The scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on November 17 while November 22 will be the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Polling will be held on November 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The counting of votes will take place the same day.

Although, the term of the sitting MLCs expired on May 31, the elections could not be conducted due to the second wave of Covid-19.

Given the strength of YSRCP in the Assembly, the party is confident of winning the elections.

The YSRCP has 151 members in the 175-member Assembly.

Jagan keeps PRC report secret, AP employees on warpath

0

The Andhra Pradesh government headed by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy seems to be in a state of fear even to release PRC report (pay revision commission) let alone implementing new PRC scales for state government employees and pensioners.

Leaders of various employees unions in Andhra Pradesh sat on dharna in AP Secretariat in Amaravathi for several hours on Wednesday demanding to make PRC report public.

With this, AP chief secretary Sameer Sharma rushed to CM Jagan’s camp office in Tadepalli to seek his permission to make PRC report public.

But Jagan reportedly denied permission forcing the CS to return to Secretariat empty-handed.

Why Jagan government is afraid to release PRC report is the question being raised in political as well as employees circles.

In Telangana, KCR allowed officials to release PRC report. However, the TS employees unions have burnt PRC copies after the report recommended just 7.5 % fitment (hike on basic pay) in December last year.

KCR has to personally intervene in this issue to pacify employees unions and announced 30% fitment in March this year against 7.5% fitment recommended by PRC. Employees unions went into celebration mode and thanked KCR for giving four-fold increase in PRC than actually recommended by the commission.

Now, Jagan reportedly fears similar anger from AP employees unions if PRC report is released. This is because the PRC might have recommended very lower fitment and submitted the report to Jagan. Since Jagan knew it’s very lower, he is afraid of making it public.

KCR has the advantage of giving more PRC since Telangana is a revenue-surplus state. But for Jagan, his government is already struggling to pay even existing salaries to employees on time as it is already reeling under heavy debt burden and revenue-deficit.

Under these circumstances, Jagan is not in a position to give higher fitment like KCR, and for that reason he kept PRC report a secret.

Is Ravela Kishore rejoining the TDP?

1

Is former minister Ravela Kishore planning to do a ghar wapsi to Telugu Desam? It appears so. His recent moves indicate that he is trying to rejoin the TDP. He is said to be in touch with the TDP supremo and is openly hobnobbing with the TDP biggies. In fact, he is said to be using the Amaravati padayatra to inch closer to the TDP.

Ravela joined the BJP two years ago in the wake of a crushing TDP defeat. Though he was in the BJP, his heart and soul were always with the BJP. During his stay in the BJP, he never felt at east and tried to reach out to the TDP leaders. Now using the padayatra of the Amaravati farmers, he has reportedly got in touch with leaders like Yarapatineni Srinivasa Rao, Dhulipalla Narendra, and Prattipati Pullarao, who are working behind the scenes for the yatra. He is meeting them whenever they come to meet with the Amaravati farmers.

It is also being rumoured that Chandrababu Naidu had a secret rendezvous with Madiga leader Manda Krishna Madiga in a swank hotel in Hyderabad. Sources say that Ravela played a key role in bringing these two leaders together. The two leaders reportedly discussed about wooing the Dalit voters in Andhra Pradesh.

Sources say that Ravela Kishore Babu is increasingly feeling that there was no use being in the BJP. He feels that the TDP is the only alternative to the YSRCP. The TDP too is of the opinion that Ravela’s re-entry would benefit it in many ways. He could play a crucial role in bringing back Dalit voters to the TDP.

AP Government’s tricky move on Ticket Prices

The prices of movie tickets have reached minimal in Andhra Pradesh which turned out to be a dent for the collections in the state. Several celebrities met Cinematography Minister Perni Nani and urged him to get the GO revised. Several biggies are delayed due to the ticket pricing issue in Andhra Pradesh. There are speculations that the revised GO would arrive in September or October but it never happened. The government of AP has been working at a faster pace to introduce a ticket selling portal to get a hold on the ticket prices and revenues from theatres in Andhra Pradesh.

With no option left, the celebrities of Tollywood voted for the move of AP government. We have come to know that there would be a price revision for the tickets in AP once the ticket portal would be introduced in the state. Both the ticketing portal and the ticket pricing are inter-linked. If there are any hurdles for the ticketing portal, there would be no chance of revising the prices of tickets told a source. The distributors of big-ticket films like Akhanda and Pushpa are not ready to pay the quoted amounts and are urging the makers to slash down the prices due to the prices in AP. For now, the government of AP has no plans to revise the ticket prices.

Jagan doing nothing even as Anakapalle YSRCP cauldron is simmering

0

He was once the lord of all he surveyed, a powerful minister whose word was law. But, at the fag-end of his illustrious political career, he is finding himself checkmated by his juniors. They are pushing him around and trying to dictate terms to him. So exasperated he is that he has to finally put his foot down and openly say that he has no superiors except YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

We are talking about former minister Dadi Veerabhadra Rao. For the first time ever, he is facing challenge from within in Anakapalli. He is unable to get along well with Anakapalli YSRCP MLA Gudivada Amarnath. He and Amarnath are exchanging barb in full public view. Of late, Amarnath faction has stopped inviting Veerabhadra Rao to the YSRCP meetings.

As a result, Dadi and Gudivada have been holding separate meetings. But Dadi Veerabhadra Rao has suddenly changed his strategy and has been attending party meetings even when he was not extended an invitation. In one such meeting, he burst out that he is not answerable to anyone and that his only boss is YS Jagan. He also said that he is not going to obey anyone else’s order.

This has created a difficult situation for the ruling YSRCP in Anakapalli. The party workers are divided between the two leaders. YS Jagan, who is aware of these differences, has done nothing so far to set the things right. As a result, Anakapalli’s political cauldron is simmering.

Amaravati yatra rebegins after Monday break, Cops slap two cases against farmers

0

The Padayatra of the Amaravati farmers is increasingly facing problems from the police. The police are slapping cases on the padayatris. The Prakasam police, who slapped a case on November 7 on the farmers and the women who were on a padayatra from Tulluru to Tirupati opposing YS Jagan’s three-capital formula, have filed another case. The police claim that the padayatris were violating the conditions imposed by the High Court.

Prakasam district superintendent of Police issued a press release accusing the padayatris of violating the covid protocol. The statement said that while the court has permitted 157 persons to undertake the yatra, the actual number is more than 2000. It also said that there were over 500 vehicles, which was a violation of the conditions imposed by the High Court. It said that while only hand mikes were permitted, the padayatris were using loud speakers. The SP said that two cases have been slapped.

Meanwhile, the yatra, which took a break for one day on account of Kartika Somavaram fete, began again from Inkollu in Prakasam district. The yatris, who entered Prakasam district on Saturday, walked for 17 km and reached Inkollu on Sunday. On Monday, they performed special poojas on account of Kartika Somavaram. The yatris said that the total number of those performing the yatra was 157, but they can do nothing if the locals join them to express their solidarity.

The yatra is aimed at highlighting the plight of the Amaravati farmers, who had parted with their lands for the construction of the capital city. However, the YSRCP government has announced that there would be three capitals – the administrative capital in Vizag, legislative capital in Amaravti and the judicial capital in Kurnool. The farmers feel that this was a betrayal of the trust and sacrifice of the Amaravati farmers and want the government to rescind its orders. The yatra will go on for 45 days and would culminate at Tirumala.

Andhra CM to sort out issues of border villages, river projects with Odisha CM

0

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will meet his Odisha counterpart Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday to discuss issues related to the construction of Neradi barrage over the Vamsadhara River, the Kotia cluster of border villages, and the Janjhavathi project.

On Monday, Reddy held a preparatory meeting here to finalise the agenda for discussion with Patnaik.

State government officials said that Reddy will elaborate upon the mutual benefits that will accrue due to the construction of the Neradi barrage. A total of 103 acres of land is required from Odisha for the construction of the barrage, of which 67 acres is riverbed area. The barrage will provide immediate irrigation facilities to 5,000-6,000 acres of land in Odisha.

Appraising Reddy on the Janjhavathi project, the officials said that the water for cultivation is being provided only to 5,000 acres of 24,640 acres of land through the rubber dam and completion of the project would benefit the farmers even more.

They said completion of the project would leave four villages completely and six villages partially flooded. Around 1,174 acres of land in Odisha will be inundated due to the project, of which 875 acres are government land.

In Bhubaneswar, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister will request Patnaik to co-operate with the resettlement and rehabilitation efforts, a state government release noted.

Briefing the Chief Minister on the recent developments in Kotia cluster of villages on the border, Vizianagaram district collector Suryakumari said that 16 out of 21 villages have decided to be with Andhra Pradesh, adding that elections were also held in those villages. They said 87 per cent people in Kotia cluster of villages are tribal and there should be no hindrances in providing services to them.

‘Reddy war’ to bag top post in AICC

0

Two top Reddy leaders in Congress from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are in the race to bag the coveted post of General Secretary in AICC (All India Congress Committee).

While one is N.Kiran Kumar Reddy, the last Chief Minister of Undivided Andhra Pradesh, the other is N.Uttam Kumar Reddy, Nalgonda Lok Sabha member and former TPCC chief.

The Congress high command has recently decided to reorganise party structure across the country.

With this, there is heavy competition to bag coveted posts in the party at national level.

Uttam worked as minister in Kiran’s cabinet. Kiran quit Congress in 2014 to protest then Congress-led UPA government’s decision to bifurcate AP.

Though Kiran launched his own party ‘Jai Samaikyandhra’ and contested Assembly polls in 2014, he closed the party soon after his party drew a blank in election results in 2014

After remaining inactive from politics for four years, Kiran rejoined Congress in 2018 in the presence of Rahul Gandhi.

Kiran is now lobbying hard to secure AICC general secretary post as Congress high command wants to nominate only one from Telugu States.

Cops service notices on Amaravati farmers’ yatra in Parchuru

0

The Amaravati farmers yatra, which was launched on November 1 from Tulluru in the Amaravati capital area, entered Prakasam district on Saturday evening. It entered Parchur Junction. On day 6 of the yatra, a distance of 14 km was covered. The Yatra will go on on Sunday. But, there will be a holiday on Monday to enable the participants to perform Kartika Somavaram rituals.

The yatra, which is titled Nayasthanam to Devasthanam, is gathering momentum. More and more people are joining the yatra. The yatra has got the support of all parties except the YSRCP. The yatra would go on for 45 days and would end on December 17 at Tirupati. Congress leader Tulasi Reddy and renegade YSRCP MP Raghuramakrishnam Raju have extended their support to the yatra. Meanwhile, the CPI has asked its cadres to ensure the success of the farmers’ yatra.

Meanwhile, the Chirala police have served a notice to the participants of the yatra. The notice said that while only 157 persons were allowed to participate in the yatra, as many as 2500 persons were present at the yatra and that it was a clear violation of the provisions of the conditional permission given. Also, the police served a notice for using mikes. TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh condemned the police action.

On the other hand, Minister Botsa Satyanarayana said that the yatra was a TDP affair. He said only TDP workers were participating in the yatra and said that proposal to have three capitals was intended to achieve the all round development of all the regions of the state. He said the yatra indeed was a TDP yatra and that it has no support of the people at large.

Andhra to decide on cutting fuel price at ‘right time’

0

The Andhra Pradesh government made it clear on Saturday that it is not in a hurry to follow suit with the Central government, which recently reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively.

After the Centre’s decision to cut excise duty, many states and Union Territories also chose to cut the value added tax (VAT) on auto fuels, providing relief to the customers.

Deputy Chief Minister Dharmana Krishnadas said that the state government will take the right decision on fuel pricing at the right time.

Speaking to the media, the minister maintained that the state government’s decision on the matter would be in the best interest of the people.

Ever since the Central government announced excise duty cut on the eve of Diwali, opposition parties in the state have been demanding a price cut on auto fuels.

Fuel prices in Andhra Pradesh remain the highest in south India, with petrol selling at Rs 110.35 and diesel selling at Rs 96.44 per litre.

Earlier on Saturday, TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu targeted Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on the issue.

Recalling that when Reddy was in the opposition, he had promised to reduce fuel prices in the state, Naidu demanded to know why the Chief Minister is silent now.

Naidu demanded a minimum reduction of Rs 16 per litre in fuel prices.

“Fuel prices have a bearing on all sectors, including agriculture. Farmers are becoming debt-ridden because of increasing fuel prices. We will protest at fuel stations on Tuesday afternoon for an hour across the state,” Naidu said.

Four years of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Praja Sankalpa Yatra

1

It was on November 6, 2017 that the then leader of opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and present Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy began the historic Praja Sankalpa Yatra which changed the polity of the state.

Taking his first step from Idupulapaya, he walked into the hearts of people covering 134 Assembly segments spread over 2,516 villages across 13 districts in 341 days.

The longest padyatra ever taken by any political leader in the country continued for 341 days, covering 2,516 villages, 134 Assembly constituencies. During this walkathon, Jagan Mohan Reddy addressed 124 public meetings and 55 community meetings.

Since he took over the reins in May 2019, the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader has fulfilled most of the promises he made during his interaction with a cross section of people.

The host of schemes which the YSRCP government launched stemmed from the interaction Jagan Mohan Reddy had during his mega walkathon.

The schemes include Amma Vodi, YSR Asara, YSR Cheyutha, YSR Pension Kanuka, Jagananna Goru Muddha, YSR Law Nestham, YSR Rythu Bharosa, YSR Nethanna Nestham, YSR Matsakara Bharosa, YSR Vahana Mitra, Jagananna Vidya Deevena, Jagananna Vasati Deevena, Housing for poor, Zero interest loans, Nadu Nedu in schools and hospitals, YSR Kanti Velugu, YSR Sampoorna Poshna, Jagannna Vidya Kanuka, widening the scope, coverage of YSR Aarogyasri.

Welfare schemes, Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and transparent governance reflected in all the subsequent polls, from local body elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls.

According to YSRCP, the milestones achieved by the historic padyatra remained etched in public memory. Jagan Mohan Reddy had achieved 500 km milestone at Gotturu in Dharmavaram, Anantapur on December 16, 2017 and 1000 km Saidapuram at Venkatagiri, Nellore on January 29, 2018.

The Praja Sankalpa Yatra completed 1500 km Mulukuduru in Ponnuru, Guntur on March 14, 2018 and 2000 km Venkatapuram in Eluru, West Godavari on May 14, 2018. The 2,500 km milestone was reached at Pasalapudi in Ramachandrapuram, East Godavari on July 8, 2018 while 3,000 km milestone was reached at Desapatrunipalem in Vizianagaram on September 24, 2018.

It was at RaviValasa in Tekkali, Srikakulam on December 22, 2018 that the YSRCP leader completed 3,500 km. The padyatra concluded at Ichapuram, Srikakulam on January 9, 2019 after covering a total distance of 3,648 km.

Jagan Mohan Reddy steered YSRCP to a landslide in the 2019 elections winning 151 of the 175 Assembly and 22 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats.

“Group politics” in Kurnool YSRCP flare up!

0

The ‘group politics’ in YSRCP in Kurnool have become a big headache to party chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy.

The ‘internal rifts’ between sitting MLA Abdul Hafeez Khan and former MLA S.V.Mohan Reddy have now come out in the open.

Both the groups are levelling serious allegations and counter allegations against each other leaving YSRCP cadre in doldrums.

Both the groups are also engaged in ‘social media war’ against each other.

Each group is terming the other corrupt and looting people causing damage to YSRCP in Kurnool. This naturally is being exploited by opposition TDP to its advantage, which is making all-out efforts to re-establish its hold on Kurnool Assembly constituency.

It all started with S.V.Mohan Reddy group restoring to social media campaign against MLA Hafeez Khan terming his corrupt and demanding money for every work from people and as well as YSRCP leaders and cadre in Kurnool.

They also posted an internal survey which states that Hafeez Khan has support of just 42% voters in Kurnool while SV Mohan Reddy has majority voters support of 58%. They are publicising that YSRCP will win Kurnool seat in 2024 Assembly polls only if party dumps Hafeez Khan and gives ticket to SV Mohan Reddy.

Hafeez Khan group on the other hand is accusing Reddy leaders of defaming Muslim leader to end his political career. They are trying to give ‘religion colour’ to counter SV Mohan Reddy group.

The Kurnool TDP leader T.G.Bhagat, who gave a tough fight to Hafeez Khan in 2019 polls is taking advantage of group politics in YSRCP and reaching out to people aggressively with an eye on 2024 Assembly polls.

Jagan on the other hand is struggling over how to bring peace between two rival groups in his own party in Kurnool.

Why is YSRCP worried about the Huzurabad bypoll verdict?

1

One political party that is keenly observing the Huzurabad bypoll result is YSRCP in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. The reason? The party feels that even schemes like Dalit Bandhu and the host of pensions could not save the ruling party. Despite all these, the ruling TRS lost to the BjP., which did not promise anything.

Schemes like Rythu Bandhu and welfare pensions were implemented in a very methodical manner in Telangana. The TRS government has brought in Dalit Bandhu specifically for the Huzurabad bypoll. It was formally introduced in Vasalamarri village and then in Huzurabad. The beneficiaries were identified and the Dalit Bandhu amounts were deposited into the savings bank accounts of the beneficiaries. Despite this, the TRS lost the elections by a very convincing margin.

Since he took over reins of power, YS Jagan too is implementing a slew of welfare schemes. He is ensuring that the benefits reach the target population. Not just that. He has stopped all the developmental schemes to run the welfare schemes. The government is borrowing heavily to implement the scheme. He has even set up a system of village volunteers to ensure that the delivery mechanism is fool-proof. Now after the Huzurabad verdict, the YSRCP thinking heads were worried whether all their welfare schemes will come to naught by 2024 elections.

There is a rethink in the YSRCP inner core as to whether all these schemes were useful. One group is said to be arguing that the party has immensely helped the YSRCP in Tirupati, Dubbak bypolls and the local body elections. They feel that these schemes would continue to help the party. But another strong section feels that people’s connect is more important and all these schemes are excluding the elected MLAs from the implementing mechanism. Will this prove counterproductive in the long run, they ask. Insiders say, Huzurabad verdict is a lesson for all the parties tht purely depend on welfare schemes to win elections.

Why has Jagan begun talking about special status now?

1

Post-Badvel, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy appears to have come to the conclusion that it is time to take on the BjP too in AP. That the BjP could get up to 20000 votes was a surprise for the YSRCP. Even assuming that the TDP has indirectly and partly helped the BJP, it was clear that the TDP did not plunge itself headlong into the campaign. Had TDP gone the whole hog, the victory margin would have been much less.

The Badvel result has in fact opened up the eyes of the YSRCP. A Jana Sena-BJP-TDP combine could be a formidable and could give the YSRCP a run for its money. Realising this, Machiavellian YS Jagan has decided to rake up the issue of special status.

Immediately after the Badvel election, Jagan held a review meeting in Tadepalli on the upcoming Southern Zonal Council meet, which will be attended by all CMs of the South Indian states. Jagan wants to use this forum to talk about the special status to AP. He will also raise the question of total implementation of the provisions of the bifurcation act. The idea seems to be to put the BJP on the back-foot on issues like Polavaram, special status, three capitals and others. At the same time, he seems to have plans to put the TDP on the dock for supporting the BJP. This means, either the TDP has to openly say that special status was not needed or it will have to distance itself from the BJP.

Jagan is planning to raise these issues in the Southern Council meeting. He knows from the recent bypoll results that the BJP’s sheen is dimming and it will have to depend more on its allies. So, Jagan feels that this is the time to squeeze the BJP.
