0

Top leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) from the State on Friday decided to form a State-level committee with members from all the three partners to focus on formulating further strategies after deep study of the ongoing election campaign and after analysing the day-to-day developments.

President of the State unit of the BJP, Purandheswari, Jana Sena chief, Pawan Kalyan, the BJP national general secretary, Arun Singh and the BJP State incharge, Sidhartha Singh, had detailed deliberations with TDP supremo, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, how to move forward in these elections in close coordination of the activists of all the three parties. All these leaders had a lengthy meeting with Chandrababu Naidu at his residence at Undavalli in Amaravati.

The deliberations mainly focussed on the election campaign, the future course of action to be adopted and other important issues. All the leaders are unanimous in their opinion to hold meetings from booth-level to Lok Sabha constituency level for close coordination among the three parties leaders and activists.

The NDA top leaders are focussed on the strategies to be adopted at the grassroot-level for achieving the best result to get the transfer of votes. They also opined that the activists of all the three parties are moving with close coordination which they felt is a welcome move.

The leaders of all the three alliance partners were unanimous in their opinion that the joint public meetings are yielding very good results and felt that such meetings should be organised in maximum possible areas in the State. The misuse of power by the ruling dispensation also figured at the two-hour long meeting and all of them decided to lodge a joint complaint besides waging a battle against the misuse of power till proper action is initiated.

The leaders decided to fight for proper implementation of the Model Code of Conduct and also take the issues to the notice of the poll panel. They dwelt at length on inviting Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister, Amith Shah and Union Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh, to the State for election campaign. The NDA leaders decided to move ahead with a strategy and an action plan that the alliance should win at least 160 Assembly segments and all the Lok Sabha seats in the State.

Raghurama says he would contest in the coming elections

Narsapuram MP K Raghurama Krishnam Raju had said that he would contest the coming general election. He told the media persons in Vijayawada that he would soon announce the constituency from which he would contest.

Raghurama Krishnam Raju offered prayers at Kanakadurga temple in Vijayawada on Wednesday evening. He said he had come to the city to pray to the presiding deity to bless the TDP, BJP and Jana Sena alliance in the elections.

He said he would be in the election battle this time. However, he said he was not sure whether he would contest the Parliament seat or the Assembly seat. There would be clarity on the issue in the next couple of days, the Narasapuram MP said.

Raghurama Krishnam Raju aspired for Narsapuram Parliament seat either from the BJP or from the TDP. However, the seat went to the BJP in alliance. The BJP had announced the candidature of Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma as its candidate. This had closed the doors for Raghurama Krishnam Raju to contest.

He was upset with the BJP not giving him the ticket. He expected the BJP to name him from the constituency. However, as the BJP named Varma, he alleged that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy prevailed upon the BJP leadership not to give him ticket.

Raghurama Krishnam Raju is now looking at the TDP to give him the ticket. He said that the TDP has the responsibility to give him the ticket and ensure that he is elected to the Assembly or Parliament.

He did not join the TDP or the BJP. He did not even join the Jana Sena for that matter. However, he is expecting the TDP to give him the ticket. He asserted that the TDP would give him the ticket even though he did not join the party.

“There was no rule that one should join the party to get a ticket. The TDP had given a ticket to the Telangana BJP leader at Bapatla,” Raghurama Krishnam Raju told the media persons. It is to be seen if the TDP would give him the ticket or not.

0

The opposition TDP had released its third list of candidates for the coming general election. The party had kept five Assembly and four Parliament seats pending.

The party had so far released the list for the 128 Assembly seats in the last two lists out of 144 seats that the party would be contesting this time. The TDP had given 10 Assembly seats to the BJP and 21 seats to the Jana Sena in alliance.

Besides the Assembly, the TDP had also given six MP seats to the BJP and two MP seats to the Jana Sena. The BJP is yet to release its list of candidates for both the Assembly and Parliament seats.

The Jana Sena had released six Assembly seats and one parliament seat from its share. Pawan Kalyan, though said that he would contest from Pithapuram Assembly constituency, is on two minds. He is yet to decide whether he would contest the Assembly or the Parliament seats.

Pawan Kalyan said that the BJP top leadership is asking him to contest for the Parliament seat. He said he would consider contesting from Kakinada Parliament seat if the BJP leadership insists upon.

Meanwhile, in the third leader, the TDP fielded, K Rammohan Naidu for Srikakulam, M Bharat for Visakhapatnam, G Mahesh for Amalapuram, P Mahesh Yadav for Eluru, Kesineni Sivanadh for Vijayawada, P Chandrasekhar for Guntur, Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu for Narasaraopet, T Krishna Prasad for Bapatla, Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy for Nellore, D Prasada Rao for Chittoor, B Nagaraju for Kurnool, B Sabari for Nandyala and B K Pardhasaradhi for Hindupur Lok Sabha constituencies.

In the Assembly list, Chandrababu Naidu had cleared the names of G Sririsha for Palasa, M Govinda Rao for Pathapatnam, G Shankar for Srikakulam, K Lalithakumari for Srungavarapukota, V Venkateswara Rao for Kakinada city, A Ananda Rao for Amalapuram, Bode Prasad for Penamaluru, Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad for Mylavaram, Ch Aravinda Babu for Narasaraopet, M Malakondaiah for Chirala, and Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy for Sarvepalli segments.

Quite interestingly, Chandrababu Naidu did not give ticket to former minister Devineni Umamahesara Rao. He was replaced by YSRCP MLA Vasantha Venkata Krishna Prasad at Mylavaram in NTR district.

Pawan confident of NDA forming govt in AP

Jana Sena chief, Pawn Kalyan, on Sunday expressed confidence that it is the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), of which the TDP and the Jana Sena are partners, that is going to form the coming government.

Addressing the Praja Galam (people’s voice) public meeting at Boppudi near Chilakaluripet of which Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is the chief guest along with TDP president, Chandrababu Naidu, the Jana Sena chief said that the arrival of Modi’s visit to the State is a big relief for the State which is now crumbling with deep debts and without any development. Pawan Kalyan told the massive public meeting where a record number of people from all parts of the State gathered that all the five crore people of the State are feeling happy at the three parties, the TDP, the BJP and the Jana Sena, coming together.

Recalling the alliance in 2014 formed at the world famous pilgrim town of Tirupati, Pawan Kalyan said that the alliance was announced then with the blessings of Lord Balaji and now again in 2024 the three parties have come together with the blessings of Goddess Kanakadurga. “My hearty welcome to Modi who is going to create a record by achieving a hatrick and his arrival here has reposed faith among the people of the State that Amaravathi is going to shine again,” he stated.

Teriming Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, as a liquor baron, Pawan Kalyan said that Jagan has failed to clear Rs 10,000 cr GST and through JP Ventures, a binami of Jagan, he minted Rs 40,000 cr. Though the State has recorded business transactions of Rs 1.20 lakh cr, the Chief Minister has projected it as a mere Rs 84 cr thus minting such a huge amount of money, he said. “Jagan’s main goal is making money but not to develop the State,” he said.

Regretting that no industry has been set up after Jagan came to power, Pawan Kalyan said that on the other hand those which are existing earlier are running away from here unable to bear the harassment. The percentage of industrial growth in the State in 2014 was 10.4 per cent which is now -3 (minus three) per cent. The State is recording negative growth in this, he said.

Observing that Jagan feels that he can do anything with the huge money that he has, the Jana Sena chief said that Modi, however, is going to establish Rama Rajya here. The Kurukshetra battle has begun, Pawan Kalyan said and called upon the people to support the NDA as ultimately the victory will be that of morality and virtue.

End of atrocious rule soon, say alliance leaders

0

The TDP, Jana Sena and the BJP alliance which is formed to realise the dreams of five crore people by ending the atrocious rule is going to create a history in the State.

The alliance leaders, under the stewardship of TDP general secretary, Nara Lokesh, on Wednesday performed the Bhoomi Pooja exactly at 9.32 am at Boppudi where the alliance is organising a massive public meeting on March 17 to be attended by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, besides TDP supremo, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and Jana Sena chief, Pawan Kalyan, along with several other senior leaders of all the three parties. This apart, Lokesh also launched the other works being taken up at the meeting venue.

Since this is the first meeting being organised after the alliance, all the three parties have taken the programme as a prestigious one and the leaders recall that even in 2014 too the then alliance partners launched the election campaign in Guntur district which turned out to be a grand success. The alliance partners are moving ahead with the same sentiment for 2024 polls too.

Since all the top leaders of the three parties are going to address the public meeting to be attended by lakhs of people from across the State, Lokesh and leaders of other two parties on Wednesday discussed in detail the arrangements to be made for the programme being organised on a spacious 200 acres. Lokesh asked the organisers to ensure that no inconvenience of any kind is caused for anyone who is attending the meeting.

Those who attended the meeting included TDP State unit president, Kinjerapu Atchen Naidu, former ministers, Pattipati Pulla Rao and Kanna Laxminarayana, senior TDP leaders like Kommareddy Pattabhiram, Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Nakka Ananda Babu besides others. From the BJP, party leader Paturi Nagabhushanam, and from the Jana Sena party leader, Kalyanam Siva Srinivas and many others from the three parties were present.

Pattipati Pulla Rao expressed confidence that the YSRCP will be completely rooted out of the State and the people are eagerly waiting for the March 17 meeting. Modi, Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan will be given a clear roadmap for the progress of the State, he added.

As the development of the State is not possible without the cooperation of the Centre, people want the alliance among the three parties, Pulla Rao said and stated that the Bopped meeting is going to create a history in the State politics. Mr Kommareddy Pattabiram said that a total of 130 members will be working in the 13 committees and the psycho rule demolition will begin on March 17.

The pathetic situation of the YSRCP reflects from the fact that in one Assembly segment the candidates have been replaced three times, Pattabhi said. People from any section of society are feeling secure in the YSRCP rule, he added.

Nagabhushanam said that the YSRCP is not getting even candidates to contest the upcoming polls and the alliance will work towards sending home Chief Minister, Jagan Mohan Reddy, who destroyed the State and all the three parties will work like Three Murthys for the development of the State.

Expressing confidence that the 2014 results are going to be repeated in the State, Jana Sena leader Nagaraju said that Jagan has demolished all sectors and the people are eagerly waiting for rebuilding the State. All the leaders made a fervent appeal to the people of the State to attend the March 17 meeting in large numbers and extend their solidarity with the alliance.

TDP to contest 144 MLA seats, Jana Sena 21, BJP 10

The opposition TDP is set to contest 144 Assembly seats in the state in alliance with the Jana Sena and the BJP. The seat sharing was finalised at a meeting held among the three parties at Chandrababu Naidu’s residence the other day.

BJP senior leader and Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan held prolonged discussions over the seat sharing. The discussions were held for almost 8 hours among the three leaders, assisted by their respective party leaders.

The Jana Sena had come down to 21 seats from the initial number of 24 seats. The TDP had initially given 24 seats to the Jana Sena. However, after the Monday’s talks, the party had come down to 21 seats, leaving three seats to the BJP.

The bargain with the BJP started at six seats and it finally concluded at 10 seats. The BJP is said to have insisted upon contesting double digit numbers and accordingly settled down at 10 seats. While the Jana Sena had given three seats, the TDP had given one seat to the BJP, reducing its strength to 144 seats.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had sought to advise the Jana Sena and the BJP leaders to ensure that better candidates are fielded in their constituencies to defeat the ruling YSR Congress candidates. He said that his party is ready to assist both the Jana Sena and the BJP in selecting the candidates for the seats given to them.

The Jana Sena made a big sacrifice by giving up three seats for the BJP. Though the Jana Sena activists were not happy with the party taking just 24 seats initially, the Jana Sena chief had made a big sacrifice by further bringing down the number.

Pawan Kalyan is committed to the defeat of the YSR Congress and had said that he would be ready for any sort of sacrifice to ensure the defeat of the YSR Congress. Accordingly, he made the big sacrifice by losing three seats to the BJP.

Pawan Kalyan is expected to explain the reasons for giving up three seats to the BJP and is said to be pacifying the angry party workers. The party rank and file are not happy with the 24 seats. Now, Pawan Kalyan has further brought down the number. It is to be seen how the Jana Sena activists would react to this decision.

Pawan to visit Delhi on Feb 22, to hold talks with BJP leaders

0

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is likely to visit the national capital Delhi on February 22. He is also likely to have meetings with BJP president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to the national capital.

Sources say that Pawan Kalyan would have a dialogue with the BJP leaders on having alliance with the TDP. He wants the BJP also to join the alliance and fight the 2024 general elections in Andhra Pradesh. He had already announced Jana Sena alliance with the TDP and now wants the BJP to join the team.

The Jana Sena chief held three to four rounds of talks with the TDP leadership. They have also come to a formal understanding on seat sharing between the two parties. The list is likely to be released either in the last week of February or in the first week of March.

Jana Sena is asking for 35 Assembly seats and three Parliament seats from the TDP in alliance. Machilipatnam, Kakinada and Anakapalli are the three Parliament seats that the Jana Sena is asking for in the alliance. Sitting YSRCP MP Vallabhaneni Balashowri from Machilipatnam had joined the Jana Sena and he is likely to be the candidate for the party.

Pawan Kalyan’s brother K Nagababu is planning to contest from Anakapalli and had even taken a house for him and his supporters. Nagababu plans to stay in Anakapalli till the elections are over. Last time, he contested from Narasapur Parliament seat and lost to the YSR Congress.

Having almost finalised the seat sharing with the TDP, the Jana Sena chief now wants to have similar talks with the BJP leaders. He is insisting upon the BJP leaders to have a tie-up with the TDP. He is promising the BJP leadership of having a stable relationship with the TDP.

He promises that the TDP would not walk out of the alliance once the elections are over. The BJP leaders are not taking the TDP seriously for its previous record of betrayal. However, Pawan Kalyan now promises the BJP leadership that the TDP would remain loyal and would be an alliance partner till the end.

It is now to be seen how the BJP leadership would take Pawan Kalyan seriously and account him for the alliance. Sources say that a good number of the BJP national leaders are in favour of having an alliance with the TDP.

BJP may not consider TDP for alliance in AP

0

The ruling BJP may not consider the opposition TDP in Andhra Pradesh for electoral alliance in the coming 2024 general election to the state Assembly. Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is lobbying with the BJP top leadership for alliance.

With the promise of bringing BJP also to the alliance, Pawan Kalyan had already aligned with the TDP. The two parties have already formed coordination committees to work on the alliance. They have also held the first round of meetings at the state level and at the Assembly constituency level.

Though there were open fighting between the leaders of the two parties in several Assembly constituencies, the leaders are moving forward with the single motto of defeating the ruling YSR Congress in the coming elections. The agenda is only to defeat the YSR Congress and nothing more than that.

With the agenda to defeat the YSR Congress, the TDP and Jana Sena are going together for the polls, but the BJP seems to be having a different agenda. The BJP leaders are friendly with the ruling YSR Congress. They need the YSR Congress Rajya Sabha members to get the bills passed in the upper house where the BJP is short of majority.

Pawan Kalyan is seriously lobbying with the top BJP leaders for alliance with the TDP. Even the leaders in the BJP who originally belong to the TDP are also working hard to bring both the BJP and the TDP together ahead of the 2024 general election. Even the AP BJP president Daggubati Purandheswari, who used to oppose Chandrababu Naidu’s politics is now lobbying for alliance with the TDP.

But the BJP has its own agenda for Andhra Pradesh. It is not ready to break the good relationship that the party has with the ruling YSR Congress. Moreover, the party top leaders believe that the party would get strong only if the TDP is closed. They are working on those lines to see that the TDP is politically crippled.

Given all these calculations, the BJP may not extend its hand to the TDP in the coming elections. Moreover, the TDP had helped the Congress in Telangana against the wishes of the BJP. The TDP extended its support to the Congress and is responsible for the vote increase that the Congress may get in the election. This is not a happy news for the BJP leadership, and this might pull them away from the TDP in Andhra Pradesh.

BJP seeks CBI probe into liquor sales in AP

1

The AP BJP had decided to invite the CBI investigation into the liquor sales in the state. Its president Daggubati Purandheswari said that the money is going into the accounts of the ruling YSR Congress.

Purandheswari visited some liquor shops in the afternoon on Friday at Narasapuram and found several irregularities. She said that the liquor sales is a big scam as direct cash is accepted in the liquor shops. She said that the shops were not allowing digital payments.

She said that she had checked the account books of the liquor shop and found that liquor worth Rs 700 was sold in the shop. However, for practical purposes, the staff in the shop told her that they had sold one lakh worth of liquor on that particular day.

She alleged that the liquor money is going directly to the pockets of the ruling party leaders. The unaccounted money is being collected by the top leaders of the ruling party, she alleged.

Purandheswari said that she would write to the CBI seeking its investigation into the liquor sales. She further said that she would also write to the party national leadership seeking CBI enquiry.

BJP Exploiting Sanatana Dharma Comments to Divert from Manipur Violence

1

In the midst of a storm of controversy and facing a barrage of criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding his recent anti-Sanatana Dharma remarks, Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin has launched a counteroffensive. He has taken a sharp stance against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of diverting attention away from pressing matters like the ongoing violence in Manipur and allegations of corruption.

He stated, “For the last 9 years, all your (BJP) promises are empty promises. What have you exactly done for our welfare is a question currently being raised in unison by the entire country against fascist BJP government. It is in this background that the BJP leaders have twisted my speech at the conference as ‘inciting genocide’. They consider it a weapon to protect themselves.” Stalin further argued that, considering the circumstances, it should be him initiating legal action against BJP ministers and leaders who are demanding punitive measures against him based on fake news. He criticized the Prime Minister for the lack of timely action during the Manipur crisis.

Through his strong message, Udhayanidhi Stalin reaffirmed his commitment to the ideologies of prominent figures such as Periyar and Anna emphasizing the importance of social justice. In fact the spirit with which he is fighting against the powerful party earned him fans among certain sections of people.

No Confidence Motion on Modi government accepted, what next?

1

Manipur violence issue is shaking the entire India and opposition parties decided to move a no-confidence motion against the Modi government. Debate going on in political circles about what could happen next in Indian politics. Details are as follows.

Article 118 of the Constitution permits each house of Parliament to make its own rules for the conduct of business. Using this constitutional provision, Lok Sabha formulated Rule 198 which specified the procedure for a motion of no-confidence. Any member may give a written notice; the speaker shall read the motion of no-confidence in the House and ask all those persons to rise who favor that the motion be taken up. If there are 50 MPs in favor, the speaker allows a date for discussing the motion. Using this provision, Congress legislator Gaurav Gogoi, who is from Assam, prior at 9:20 am presented the notification on behalf of the IN.D.I.A group. The main demand is that Modi should answer on the issue of Manipur violence. Speaker Om Birla said that he would announce a date for debate soon after consulting the leaders of all political parties.

However, the fate of this motion can be easily predicted as the numbers are in favor of the Modi government. However, leaders from the opposition party say that the numbers and outcome of the motion are not as important as compelling Modi to speak on Manipur violence. However, Prime Minister Modi already broke his silence on the Manipur issue and said that the incident had “shamed India” and that the attackers wouldn’t be spared. He also urged political parties not to politicize the issue of Manipur and collectively strive for a solution. Even home minister Amit Shah already told the Lok Sabha earlier this week that the government was ready to discuss the issue of Manipur violence.

Trivia of NCM on Modi government:

· This is the second such No confidence motion on the Modi government since NDA came to power in 2014. The first one was moved by TDP on NDA in 2018 for Special category status for AP. It was AP politics that drove the sequence of events leading to the No confidence motion on the Modi government. The war of words between the YSRCP party and Jana Sena chief Pawan in 2018 regarding special category status led to events where Pawan Kalyan challenged Jagan to initiate a No-confidence motion on the Modi government. YSRCP accepted the challenge of Pawan but YSRCP MPs resigned from parliament without initiating NCM. Then TDP initiated a no-confidence motion on the Modi government.

· There is a 5-year-old video that went viral today on social media and in that video, Modi was seen sarcastically asking opposition parties in 2018 to prepare for NCM again in 2023.

BJP leaves decision on alliance to TDP!

1

As the 38 national and regional political parties under the banner of NDA are meeting in the national capital today, all eyes are on TDP. Chandrababu Naidu was part of this group for three decades and had been an active player whenever the NDA met. But this time, Naidu is a silent spectator to the meeting.

The BJP leaders who have convened the meeting have not invited the TDP chief to participate in the meeting. They have at the same time invited a couple of its former allies, like Lok Jan Sakthi of late Ram Vilas Paswan.

BJP chief J P Nadda, had told the media that the decision to join the NDA or keep away was left to the TDP. He wanted the TDP to take a call on whether to align with the NDA or stay away. This would mean that Chandrababu Naidu would have to take a decision and announce. The BJP leaders want Chandrababu Naidu to volunteer to join the NDA.

Naidu left the NDA in 2018 and joined the UPA, which is led by the Congress. He had contested the Telangana Assembly elections in alliance with the Congress in the same year. However, he did not extend the alliance to the Congress in the subsequent year in Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections. He broke the alliance with the Congress immediately after the 2019 elections.

Today, after four years, Chandrababu Naidu is neither with the NDA team nor part of the UPA team. As the NDA parties meet in Delhi, the UPA parties are holding a similar strategic meeting in Bengaluru. The TDP chief was not invited as he is keeping equal distance from both the NDA and the UPA.

As he remains a silent spectator to the national political scene, for the first time in three decades, it is now to be seen what move Naidu would make from his side. He is keen on winning power in Andhra Pradesh in the 2024 general election. He is extensively touring in the state, besides his son Nara Lokesh, who is a padayatra now.

It is crucial for Naidu to take a call on his political affiliation – whether he would align with the NDA or remain independent and fight the election.

Disappointment and confusion among Telangana BJP cadres

0

In the run-up to the crucial Telangana Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s central leadership has taken a very risky decision of removing the state unit president Bandi Sanjay Kumar in favor of Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy. After these recent developments in Telangana BJP, cadres seem to be in huge disappointment. details as follows.

The previous assembly elections in Telangana were fought between TRS and Congress-led Praja Kutami. BJP was not even a main contender in the 2018 assembly elections in the state. But within a couple of years after that, BJP became a formidable force in the state of Telangana, mainly due to the relentless efforts of the state chief Bandi Sanjay. His aggressive nature and untiring efforts to corner the KCR-led government earned him a huge fan following especially among the youngsters. Bandi’s padayatras were hugely successful and lots of youngsters especially the unemployed followed him during these padayatras. He was highly appreciated by the high command for his accomplishments in bi-elections as well as GHMC elections.

However, despite all these positive results, the high command of the party decided to replace him with Kishan Reddy in this crucial year of the elections. A sizable portion of the party’s cadres, especially the younger members who had been won over by Bandi Sanjay’s confrontational demeanor and hardline Hindutva stance, seem to have been hugely disappointed by this abrupt action of removing Bandi from his position as party leader. At the same time, they do not have high hopes for Kishan Reddy on steering Telangana BJP into victory in the 2023 elections.

BRS to join NDA before LS elections?

Many of the Telangana BJP fans are now believing that BJP leadership might have made a secret pact with BRS party supremo KCR as Kishan Reddy is no match for KCR. Some even think that KCR may join NDA after the assembly elections and offer a considerable number of MP seats to BJP as part of the probable alliance in the 2024 LS elections and because of this understanding with KCR, BJP central leadership might have decided to go easy on him in the assembly elections. All these developments disappointed not only BJP fans but also the sections who do not want to vote for BRS in subsequent elections due to various reasons.

We need to wait and see if KCR can win back these sections of the voters before the assembly elections. But BJP cadres are definitely in huge disappointment at this moment.

BJP gets new presidents in Telugu States

0

The BJP national leadership on Tuesday appointed new presidents for the party state units in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The party removed incumbents Somu Veerraju in Andhra Pradesh and Bandi Sanjay in Telangana.

The two were replaced with former union minister Daggubati Purandheswari for Andhra Pradesh and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy for Telangana. The two appointments come as the party national leadership gears up for the next round of general elections in the two Telugu states.

Telangana is set to go for elections in November-December this year, while Andhra Pradesh is scheduled to go for elections in March-April next year.

In Andhra Pradesh, it was initially thought that BJP national secretary Y Sathya Kumar would be appointed as the party chief replacing Somu Veerraju. However, the party national leadership changed the decision appointing Purandheswari as the party chief.

Purandheswari’s appointment comes at a time when there is a talk about the BJP having alliance with the TDP and Jana Sena for the coming general election. The Jana Sena is already in alliance with the BJP while the TDP is said to be holding talks over restoring the ties.

The TDP broke its alliance with the BJP in 2018 over the demand of special category status to the state which was part of the promises made to AP at the time of bifurcation in 2014. The TDP also aligned with the Congress in the 2019 general election and lost the electoral battle.

Keeping those differences aside, the TDP is looking forward to an alliance with the BJP to come back to power in the state. Its ties with the Jana Sena are said to have already been worked out and a formal announcement is awaited.

TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu held the initial talks with BJP national president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah a month ago. Before the second round of talks were to begin, the BJP had changed the leadership in the state.

It is now to be seen how the alliance talks would go forward with the change of the leadership!

Telangana BJP on a sticky wicket due to internal dissent, K’taka result

0

From the main challenger to the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) only a few weeks ago, the BJP in Telangana appears to have slipped to the third position in the run up to the Assembly elections following its defeat in the Karnataka polls and due to the internal rumblings.

Not long ago, the saffron party was projecting itself as the only viable alternative to the BRS and its leaders were hoping that after Karnataka, Telangana will become their second gateway to the south.

However, today it finds itself on a sticky wicket.

Political analysts say the shifting of momentum towards Congress following the party’s massive victory in Karnataka, BRS rebels preferring the grand old party over BJP and increasing voices of dissent against the state leadership have landed the saffron party into problems.

Reports of some leaders who had joined the BJP and now planning to switch loyalties to Congress appear to have further demoralised the party.

With just 4-5 months to go for the polls, the BJP seems to be facing an uphill task in entering the fray as a cohesive unit.

BJP MLA Eatala Rajender and former MLA Komatireddy Raj Gopal Reddy are reportedly planning to quit the party and join Congress.

This will be a big embarrassment for the BJP as Rajender is heading the joining committee or the panel tasked with luring leaders from other parties to join the saffron camp.

Rajender had quit the BRS in 2021 after he was dropped from the state Cabinet by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. He had also quit his Assembly seat Huzurabad and joined the BJP. In the by-election held the same year, Rajender was elected with a comfortable margin to give a big boost to the BJP.

Raj Gopal Reddy, who was Congress MLA from Munugode, followed in the footsteps of Rajender. Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself had come to Munugode to welcome the businessman-politician into the party. However, Raj Gopal Reddy failed to repeat Huzurabad in Munugode late last year and the BRS wrested the seat.

“BJP’s slide had started after its defeat in Munugode. The party which was in aggressive mode started looking vulnerable,” said political analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy.

Now with Congress regaining the lost ground, Raj Gopal Reddy appears keen to return to the party. His brother and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy is also making efforts to facilitate his return.

Both the leaders had stayed away from the mass contact programme organised by the BJP on June 22 across the state to reach out to 35 lakh households in a single day to explain to them the achievements of the Modi government during the last nine years.

Both Rajender and Raj Gopal Reddy along with some other leaders like former MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who too had quit Congress to join BJP, are unhappy with the style of functioning of state part president Bandi Sanjay Kumar.

That the central leadership of BJP is worried over the developments in Telangana is clear from the fact that both Rajender and Raj Gopal Reddy have been summoned to Delhi in what is seen as a last-ditch effort to persuade them to remain in BJP.

Sanjay, however, is trying to put up a brave face. “We can’t stop if somebody wants to board a sinking ship,” he said when asked about the plans by some BJP leaders to crossover to the Congress.

The BJP camp has been witnessing rumblings among different factions for several months.

The differences came to the fore again last month when Rajender and other leaders left for Khammam to meet former MP Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and former minister Jupalli Krishna Rao to invite them to join the BJP without informing Bandi Sanjay and other senior leaders.

Since Srinivas Reddy and Krishna Rao were recently suspended by BRS for anti-party activities, Eatala and others held talks with them to persuade them to join the saffron party.

Rajender later revealed that the two leaders tried to persuade him to join hands with them in ousting BRS from power.

Upbeat after the victory in Karnataka elections, the Congress party appears to have gained an upper hand over BJP in attracting rebels from other parties.

Political observers say that with the recent joining of leaders from BRS and other parties, the Congress party started emerging as the main challenger for the BRS.

During the last few days, the Congress party succeeded in attracting even those rebel BRS leaders who earlier seemed to prefer the BJP.

The Congress party appears to have achieved a big success with Srinivasa Reddy and Krishna Rao almost making up their mind to join Congress.

This is not the first time that BJP is witnessing acrimony in its camp. Recently, BJP MP Arvind Dharampuri came out openly against Bandi Sanjay’s alleged derogatory remarks on BRS leader K. Kavitha, the daughter of the Chief Minister. The Nizamabad MP had said that he does not agree with Bandi’s remarks

This was a jolt for the party as Arvind is a bitter critic of CM KCR and his family. In 2019, he had defeated sitting MP Kavitha in Nizamabad. A few months ago, Arvind finding fault with Sanjay’s remarks was surprising for the BJP and this indicated the differences among the leaders.

A section of the leaders feel that Sanjay’s immature inappropriate words, dictatorship and undemocratic antics may damage the party’s prospects.

Bandi Sanjay enjoys the confidence of BJP top brass as it was under him that the party won two Assembly by-elections, put up a strong fight in the third by-election and also significantly improved its tally in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

At the BJP national executive meeting in Hyderabad last year and on other occasions Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Sanjay’s fighting spirit. Other central leaders also praised him for the manner in which he led Praja Sangram Yatra to take on BRS.

However, it is a known fact that BJP has different groups. A section of leaders support union minister G. Kishan Reddy, who has differences with Bandi Sanjay.

Landing BJP in further embarrassment, its MP Soyam Bapurao admitted last week that he had constructed a house for himself and performed the wedding of his son with the help of funds from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme.

A video clip of the Adilabad MP’s speech at a meeting of BJP workers went viral on social media on Monday.

The MP blamed BJP leaders Ramesh Rathod and Payala Shankar for the video’s leak.

A recent reported statement by a senior BJP leader about the saffron party’s real strength in the state also dealt a blow to its rank and file. The leader reportedly admitted that BJP is trailing at third position in the state.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, BJP won only one seat in the 119-member House. It finished second in only nine constituencies and in most of the seats its candidates forfeited the deposit.

However, the BJP sprang a surprise in Lok Sabha elections held a few months later. The party not only retained Secunderabad but also wrested three other seats — Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad.

Though the BJP improved its tally to three in Assembly by winning two by-elections, the fact remains that the saffron party does not have a strong presence outside some urban pockets in Hyderabad and north Telangana.

With its infighting and the Congress on the path of a recovery, the BJP faces an uphill task in Assembly elections scheduled towards the end of 2023 and the Lok Sabha polls next year.

BJP launches mass contact programme in Telangana

0

The BJP in Telangana on Thursday launched a mass contact programme to reach out to 35 lakh households across the state in a single day.

State party president Bandi Sanjay Kumar launched ‘Intintiki BJP’ (BJP to every household) programme in his Lok Sabha constituency of Karimnagar.

As part of the party’s “Maha Jan Sampark Abhiyaan” to explain the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government in the last nine years, all BJP functionaries from booth level to the state president will be reaching out to 35 lakh families.

Sanjay told media persons in Karimnagar that the programme started Thursday morning and claimed that in the first two hours, 10 lakh households were already covered.

He went door to door, interacted with people and distributed leaflets about the initiatives taken by the Modi government during the last nine years. He was also seen pasting BJP stickers at the entrances of the houses.

The leaflets explain how people benefited under Prime Minister Modi’s governance

Every booth level BJP leader has been asked to reach out to at least 100 households during the day. The party leaders have been asked to advise people to dial 90909024 and give a missed call as a token of acknowledgment.

Sanjay alleged that while the BJP-led government at the Centre was implementing several schemes for the poor, Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had gone back on the promises he had made.

He said the BRS leader was doing nothing except abusing BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BJP leader also alleged that KCR was raking up Telangana sentiment for electoral gains.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy participated in the programme in his parliamentary constituency Secunderabad.

Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao was also going door to door in his constituency.

Is the BJP moving close to the TDP in AP?

0

BJP national president J P Nadda and Central home minister Amit Shah have addressed two meetings in Andhra Pradesh in the last two days. While Nadda addressed the public meeting in Tirupati, Shah addressed the meeting in Visakhapatnam.

What is interesting here in both the public meetings was the speakers targeting the ruling YSR Congress. Never before the national leaders of the TDP have targeted the YSR Congress in the last four years.

Though there were criticisms on and off from the State leaders, the national leaders never went so hard on the YSR Congress and the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led state government.

The criticism came shortly after TDP president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu meeting both Shah and Nadda in Delhi recently. It was said that Naidu had explained the high-level corruption and criminal politics of the YSR Congress in the state.

While it is not known whether the BJP and TDP leaders have agreed for a tie-up ahead of the 2024 general election, it looked as if the friendship between the BJP and the YSR Congress had ended. Otherwise, the BJP top leaders would not have gone so hard against Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Nadda and Shah meetings have sent one message in common that they have a lot of information about the state government and its style of functioning. The way both Nadda and Shah have targeted the Jagan Mohan Reddy’s dispensation shows that they no longer require Jagan Mohan Reddy’s support, and they are no longer friends with the YSR Congress.

If that is the case, it is going to be tough for Jagan Mohan Reddy to face the TDP-BJP combine in the coming elections. It is not going to be easy for him to win 151 seats this time if the BJP decides to align with the TDP.

It is to be seen if Jagan Mohan Reddy compromises with the BJP leaders or the TDP gains an upper hand to make a comeback in the next general election.

Telangana BJP pins hopes on Amit Shah’s June 15 public meeting

0

Rattled by the drubbing in last month’s Karnataka Assembly elections and worried over its likely impact on Telangana polls, the BJP leaders in Telangana are looking forward to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state on June 15 to motivate the party cadres.

Amit Shah will address a public meeting at Khammam and the saffron party is making elaborate arrangements to mobilize at least one lakh people.

The meeting is expected to lift the sagging morale of the party in the wake of shock defeat in Karnataka and prepare it for the Telangana Assembly polls due to be held in November-December.

Shah’s visit also comes amid the internal strife in the BJP with a section of leaders demanding a change in the state leadership and the party’s failure to lure former MP Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and former minister Jupally Krishna Rao to its fold.

Both the leaders were recently suspended by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) for anti-party activities. Srinivasa Reddy, who is from Khammam district, is reported to have made his mind to join Congress.

BJP MLA Eatala Rajender, who heads the joining committee of the party, failed to persuade the two leaders to join the saffron party. During the meetings with Rajender, they in turn advised him to quit the BJP.

Rajender and some other BJP leaders who joined the party in recent years are said to be unhappy with Bandi Sanjay and demanded the central leadership to appoint a new leader.

A recent reported statement by a senior central leader of the BJP about the saffron party’s real strength in the state has also dealt a blow to its rank and file. The leader reportedly admitted that BJP is trailing at third position in the state.

The BJP has been trying to project itself as the only viable alternative to BRS. Its top leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah exuded confidence at many occasions that the party will storm to power in Telangana.

Meanwhile, Bandi Sanjay visited Khammam to review the arrangements for Amit Shah’s public meeting. He was confident that through the success of this public meeting, BJP would give a befitting reply to its political rivals about its strength in Khammam district.

Both BRS and the Congress party have been mocking BJP over lack of presence in Khammam district.

Sanjay said a committee comprising senior leaders will be constituted to ensure mobilisation of people for the public meeting. He asked BJP cadres at booth level to make plans for bringing people to the public meeting.

He claimed that a march of unemployed organised by the party in Khammam recently was a huge success. He also stated that several districts wanted to host the Home Minister’s public meeting but the party chose Khammam to show its strength in the district.

He also alleged that BRS, Congress and a section of the media had conspired to damage the morale of BJP.

Alliance between BJP and TDP is a mutual need!

TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu had closeted with BJP national president J P Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Saturday evening. The meeting lasted for one hour and there must have been talks about politics as all the three are senior politicians.

The BJP had faced humiliating defeat in Karnataka in the South and is struggling to make its presence felt in other southern states. The party wants to improve its presence in Telangana, another southern state where the BJP is present.

Karnataka’s defeat had made the BJP look for a helping hand. The TDP in Telangana is strong with a committed cadre across the state. There are some pockets in Telangana where the TDP is still strong with the cadre. The BJP, to win or to save its face in Telangana, thus would certainly have to look for the TDP.

Sources say that Chandrababu Naidu had extended an olive branch to the BJP leaders for the Telangana elections. The BJP would gain from the TDP in Telangana as the party has a strong vote bank and had no political interest. The TDP could transfer all its votes to the BJP in the event of alliance and that would be politically a great help to the saffron party.

In return, sources say that Chandrababu Naidu had asked the BJP leaders to help him in Andhra Pradesh, where he wants to come back to power. He is working hard to wrest power from the YSR Congress in the state and is holding talks with the Jana Sena for alliance.

The BJP-Jana Sena-TDP alliance had worked well in Andhra Pradesh in 2014 elections and Chandrababu Naidu wants to try this strategy once again. Thus, the alliance is equally important for the two parties and it is only a political convenience or strategy one can think of.

It is to be seen if this arrangement works and benefits both the BJP and the TDP in the coming elections in the two Telugu states.
