KCR asks Covid positives not to rush to private hospitals

1

Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Friday claimed that the government hospitals in the state are well-equipped to provide the best treatment for coronavirus and said there is no need for people to rush to private hospitals and spend huge amounts of money.

He also advised people to not entertain any fear or anxiety over Covid-19 but at the same time, not be negligent.

At a review meeting on Covid-19 situation in the state, KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, directed the officials to keep vials of Remdesivir, and Tocilizumab and Favilavir tablets in large quantities and give them free of cost to the needy.

The meeting also attended by the Health Minister and several senior officials took several decisions.

The Chief Minister announced additional Rs 100 crore for taking up urgent measures to contain the virus and to give treatment.

The meeting decided to extend Covid incentive of 10 per cent additional pay to everyone working in the Medical and Health department without leaving anyone, including the outsourcing employees. The incentive allowance will also be given to the police personnel, sanitary workers in municipalities and panchayats.

The officers concerned were instructed to induct 1,200 doctors who have completed PG courses into government service. The Chief Minister directed that the 200 vacancies in primary health centres should be filled up.

The meeting decided to implement University Grants Commission (UGC) scales to the teachers working in medical colleges.

It was announced that the newly-appointed nurses will also get their pay on par with the old counterparts. It was also decided to enhance the retirement limit for those working in the Ayush Department to 65 years.

KCR said that those testing positive need not go to the private hospitals and spend huge amounts for the treatment as the required medical treatment for the virus is very much available in the government hospitals.

“There is no need for the people to rush to private hospitals and spend huge amounts of money and face a lot of hardships. Best treatment is given in the Government Hospitals based on the guidelines issued by the ICMR. In case anyone has symptoms, they should take medical advice and treatment,” a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office quoted him as saying.

His advice came amid growing number of complaints of non-availability of beds or excessive billing by the private hospitals.

He said private hospitals should maintain transparency in the availability of beds. He warned that the government will act strictly if any artificial shortage is created.

KCR held a meeting to review the Covid situation after 20 days. The opposition parties had been criticising him for what they call his “disappearance”.

He said the government doctors and staff were well equipped to treat any number of patients. He thanked the doctors, and staff for extending their excellent services to contain the virus spread and offering good treatment to the patients.

Stating that Covid is present in all the countries in the world and all the states in the country, KCR said it is not present only in Telangana state. “When compared to the national average, the state’s death rate is less. The recovery rate in the state is also much higher.”

He pointed out that as on Thursday, those taking treatment as in-patients in the hospitals were 3,692. Of them, 200 were having other serious ailments and the rest were recovering. As on Thursday, 41,018 were affected by the corona in the state and of them, 27,295 (67 per cent) have recovered.

A total of 9,636 were asymptomatic and they were under home quarantine. Others were taking treatment in the hospitals and they were also recovering. The asymptomatic patients were also given treatment and advice by reviewing their condition from time to time based on the ICMR recommended Covid protocol.

Pointing out that the unlock process is going on in the country and the Centre has decided to begin the international air services, KCR said we have come to a stage where living with corona is a must. “None should have any fear about corona. At the same time people should not be negligent. Maintain personal hygiene. Wear masks. Use sanitisers. Remain in the house as much as possible.”

KCR claimed that initially, the Central government was in a state of confusion to face the spread of virus but in Telangana, all the necessary equipment, medicines, tools were mobilised.

“Now there is no shortage of anything. In Gandhi and TIMS hospitals, 3,000 beds are ready with oxygen supply facilities in Hyderabad alone. All over the state, 5,000 beds were kept ready with the oxygen supply facility. In all 10,000 beds are kept ready exclusively for the Corona patients. Such a number of beds were not there in the past. 1,500 ventilators were kept ready. PPE Kits and N95 Masks are available in lakhs. There is no shortage of medicines, equipment.”

Yet another YSRCP MLA was tested positive for Covid-19.

Srisailam MLA Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy is the latest to join the list of MLAs to contract the virus.

After testing positive for Covidd-19, the YSRCP MLA is in home quarantine.

Shilpa Chakrapani Reddy actively took part in several welfare programmes in his constituency. Following this, Chakrapani Reddy was unwell for some time. He was taken to Nandyal government hospital where Covid-19 tests were conducted by using the RTPRC method which takes three days for the results. He was tested positive. 42 deaths, 2,602 new Covid-19 cases in AP

0

In what is the highest single-day spike yet, Andhra Pradesh reported 2,602 new Covid-19 cases. With the new cases, the state has breached the 40,000 mark in the number of positive cases.

The state reported 42 deaths, the second the highest so far. The death toll climbed to 534. With the 2,602 new cases, the state’s caseload reached 40,646. This is the fifth straight day that the state has reported an alarming rise in both positive cases and fatalities. For the fifth straight day, AP reported double digit fatalities. In the last five days, nearly 200 people succumbed to the infection, a cause for serious concern.

At least 22,304 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours. For every 100 samples, 11.59 people were tested positive for Covid-19.

Even as the state had been witnessing an alarming rise in Covid-19 cases and surging death rate, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy on Thursday hinted at his government’s inability to contain the further spread of the virus saying “No one can stop the spread of the virus. Every single person can contract the infection. We have to live with it.”

The dangerously spiralling COVID infections are due to the failure of the YSR government to understand the gravity of the problem early on by not formulating an action plan to check its transmission. The Chief Minister blamed the neighbouring states for the spread of virus in his state and not admitting his own administration for its failure to properly and effectively combat the pandemic by not executing an adequate response when it broke out.

Blaming the neighbouring states, Jagan said containing the virus is near impossible with free movement across inter-state borders. “We have Telangana on the one side where cases are on the surge, we have Tamil Nadu on one side, Orissa on one side and Maharashtra on the other. There is free movement of people from across these borders. Therefore, it is impossible to contain the spread of virus from the border states,” he had stated. Such statements can erode the public confidence in the government at a time when the onus of infusing confidence lies largely on the political dispensations.

Jailed Varavara Rao tested positive for Covid-19

1

81-year-old Hyderabad-based poet and human rights activist Varavara Rao, who has been in jail for nearly two years in the Elgar Parishad case, was tested positive for Covid-19.

Varavarao, who languished in Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai for nearly two years, had been unwell for some time. He was arrested in 2018 for his alleged role in the Elgar Parishad- Koregaon Bhima case of Maharashtra.

Medical authorities have confirmed that Varavara tested positive for Covid-19. Earlier, Varavara Rao’s lawyers had approached the Bombay High Court for temporary bail, given his ill health and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Varavara Rao’s family had appealed to the Taloja jail authorities to provide him with medical help given the corona situation. Addressing a press conference on July 12, his family had stated that while he is alive and fighting, they were worried about his deteriorating health.

Varavara Rao was recently shifted to JJ Hospital in Mumbai following a plea from the family members stating that his medical condition deteriorated.

15 Tirumala archakas tested positive for Covid-19: Ramana Dikshitulu

1

In an alarming revelation, honorary chief priest of Tirumala temple A V Ramana Dikshitulu stated that at least 15 archakas (priests) contracted the deadly Covid-19 infection.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Ramana Dikshitulu said, “Of the 50 priests in Sri Vari temple, 15 archakas were tested positive for the corona virus. Additionally, test results of 25 archakas are awaited. The TTD should temporarily suspend darshans. Despite the archakas contracting the virus, the TTD has not stopped allowing darshans. The current political dispensation is following the anti-Brahmanical policies of Chandrababu Naidu. One can expect a major disaster in Tirmuala if the Chief Minister fails to respond to the current situation in Tirumala. CBN has illegally unconstitutionally retired 20+ hereditary archakas. Hon high court ordered TTD to take us back. Jagan promised to take us back. But TTD EO and AEO still obey CBN and refuse to implement court orders and Jagan’s instructions. We still wait.

The TTD Staff and Workers United Front have written to the TTD Executive Officer requesting that darshan at the temple be temporarily suspended.

Dikshitulu’s statement goes against the claims of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board chairman Y V Subba Reddy. On July 4, Subba Reddy claimed that not even a single devotee tested positive for COVID-19 since resumption of services at the Venkateswara temple in Tirumala on June 8. He had claimed that only 17 employees of the devasthanams tested positive.

Reacting sharply to Ramana Dikshitulu, Subba Reddy advised the honorary chief priest to put forth any issue before the TTD Trust Board and desist from making public statements. Further, Subba Reddy stated that he had directed the TTD officials to discuss the issues being brought to the fore by Ramana Dikshitulu. “Ramana Dikshitulu was appointed as honorary chief priest by Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy. We have taken all necessary measures to protect the priests. The TTD Trust Board is also willing to temporarily suspend darshans in the interests of archakas,” Subba Reddy said.

Meanwhile, TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said, “None of the devotees have any health issues. We called 700 devotees between June 18 to 24 and called 1,943 devotees between July 1 to 7. All of them replied that they are healthy,”

However, according to some reports, hundreds of TTD staff and devotees tested positive for the virus ever since Tirumala temple reopened on June 11 which remained shut for nearly 85 days due to the lockdown.

Every single person can contract Covid-19: Jagan

4

If Covid-19 tested and tried the patience of people faced with a menace to life that is both frightening and invisible, the pandemic has thrown newer challenges to ruling dispensations across the world and inarguably the virus had been the biggest test of political leadership the world has ever witnessed in recent times. Political leaders across the world reacted differently and every leader will be judged by the results.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy briefings are a circus-like spectacle from his statements early on that paracetamol and bleaching powder can keep corona at bay. It had once stated that the virus is just like common cold and fever that “comes and goes”. As the positive cases surged, the CM stated that it “comes but does not go”.

Jagan on Wednesday dropped a bombshell on five crore people of Andhra Pradesh saying no one will be spared by Covid-19. “Every single person can contract the infection. No one can stop the spread of the virus. We have to live with it,” Jagan said. Jagan’s latest remarks add to the lengthening charge list of failures in both planning for a pandemic and executing an adequate response when it broke out. The public confidence in the government could further erode with such statements coming at a time when the onus of infusing confidence lies largely on the political dispensations.

Further, Jagan also admitted that containing the virus is near impossible with free movement across inter-state borders. “We have Telangana on the one side where cases are on the surge, we have Tamil Nadu on one side, Orissa on one side and Maharashtra on the other. There is free movement of people from across these borders. Therefore, it is impossible to contain the spread of virus from the border states,” he pointed out, clearly blaming the neighbouring states for the spread of virus in Andhra Pradesh and not admitting his own administration for its failure to properly and effectively combat the pandemic.

His remarks come in the wake of a new record high of 2,432 fresh cases of coronavirus were reported in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday as the state’s aggregate shot past the 35,000 mark while 44 deaths took the overall toll in the state to 452.

With the alarming rise in the Covid-19 cases, the CM stated that nothing can be done to contain the virus. “The only way is by scaling up awareness among people on COVID-19. People should take all precautionary measures. Those who contract the virus will have to take medicines,” Jagan stated. However, there are currently no proven medicines to treat Covid-19 patients.

Telangana HC pulls up KCR govt over treatment of Covid-19 patients

2

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday once again slammed the KCR government over its handling of the outbreak and not following its earlier directives.

Expressing concern over the grim situation in Telangana, the High Court pulled up the state government over its improper handling of COVID-19 patients, treatment and testing.

Slamming the Telangana government for not following its earlier directives, the High Court has directed the Telangana government to submit a detailed report on the treatment being provided to Covid-19 patients at the government hospitals and those in home quarantine.

Further, the court turned its ire on the government on low testing and directed the government to come clean on the centers where the testing and treatment was being conducted.

To this, the AG informed the High Court that treatment for emergency patients was being conducted at Gandhi Hospital, Chest Hospital and King Koti Hospital. Treatment for patients with mild symptoms were being treated at Sarojini , Ayurvedic and Nature Cure Hospital, the AG informed the court.

The High Court had directed the Telangana government to inform the public through media the centers where Covid-19 tests were being conducted.

Further, the HC expressed deep anguish over the sorry state of affairs in the state in so far as Covid-19 situation and its handling was concerned. The HC observed that the government had failed to provide due care to the Covid-19 patients bodies.

Earlier, the High Court bench comprising chief justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B Vijaysen Reddy had directed the Telangana government to submit a report on the number of tests conducted between May 23 to June 23 and the details of the primary and secondary contacts. The court had also ordered submitting details on the number of PPE kits supplied to the healthcare workers, warning that it may initiate contempt proceedings for not adhering to the orders passed earlier on supply of PPE kits to frontline warriors.

The HC observations come in the wake of an alarming rise in Covid-19 cases in the state which have climbed to 37,745 positive cases with 375 fatalities.

44 deaths, 2,432 new infections in AP

0

The Covid-19 situation in Andhra Pradesh is getting worse by the day.

Health officials reported 2,432 more infections in their latest update, the most so far since the state began its phased reopening.

The number of corona cases climbed to 35,451 with 2,432 new cases. In the last one month, Covid cases went up by 91.2 per cent and death rate increased by 70 per cent.

While new coronavirus cases have continued to soar, the state is also witnessing an alarming and worrying trend of spike in deaths caused by Covid-19. Andhra Pradesh recorded 44 Covid-19 deaths on Tuesday, 43 the previous day. On Saturday, AP reported 37 fatalities. The fatalities climbed to 452 after the 44 deaths. The grim record of deaths comes at a time when the state has reopened businesses and transport.

Though a surge in testing explains some of the recent increases, experts have argued ramped up screenings cannot account for the whole spike, pointing to possible community transmission although the Andhra Pradesh government has been vehemently denying the same. Experts attribute the surge in cases as people began shedding masks and ignoring social distancing practices resulting in a second wave of infection.

Telangana condemns PIB release on COVID-19

1

Telangana has condemned Press Information Bureau’s daily release on COVID-19 on Tuesday for making ‘false allegations’ against the state.

In a statement on Tuesday night, Director of Public Health Dr. G. Srinivasa Rao strongly condemned and expressed utmost displeasure at the PIB’s press release. He alleged that the PIB resorted to blame game.

PIB, a nodal agency of the central government, targeted Telangana in its daily bulletin on COVID for not doing mass testing.

According to PIB release, the Telangana High Court tore into the state government for not doing mass testing for COVID-19 and summoned public health director Dr G. Srinivas Rao to appear before it to explain. “While Telangana, after much delay, has started rapid antigen testing, it is not following the ICMR protocol strictly. Though the ICMR has suggested that those who test negative in an antigen test, need to undergo a RT-PCR test, the government has decided to ask symptomatic people to go into isolation, instead of testing them again,” it said.

The state government, however, took exception to the tone and tenor of the PIB’s release. Srinivas Rao accused it of making false allegations. Stating that the release is absolutely baseless, he said it tried to tarnish the efforts of the state in the control and management of COVID-19.

“In fact, The Honourable high court took stock of the situation and appreciated the efforts taken by the state in terms of testing, hospital preparedness and case management. Telangana state has maintained and strictly followed all the protocols and SOPs of ICMR as well as Government of India,” he said.

Claiming that Telangana is taking all required measures in securing its citizens from COVID-19, the director urged the citizens of Telangana to beware of such news.

Meanwhile, Telangana on Tuesday conducted 13,175 tests, the highest in a day. The director said 1,524 samples tested positive. With this the number of positive cases rose to 37,745.

The state also saw 10 fatalities during the day, pushing the death toll to 375. As many as 1,161 people recovered from COVID-19, taking the total number of recoveries to 24,840.

The number of active cases stands at 12,531. Out of 1,524 new cases reported on Tuesday, Greater Hyderabad accounted for 815 cases. Neighbouring Rangareddy saw a big spike with 240 new cases. Medchal and Sangareddy, also bordering the state capital, reported 97 and 61 cases.

Telangana hospital head quits after row over corona victim’s body

0

Nizamabad Government General Hospital superintendent Nageshwar Rao resigned on Monday, two days after a video surfaced showing the body of a COVID-19 victim being carried in an auto-rickshaw.

Nageshwar Rao sent his resignation to the Director of Medical Education, owning moral responsibility for the incident.

Rao told his colleagues through a voice message in the WhatsApp group of the hospital staff that he is hurt over the allegations of negligence.

The hospital chief came under criticism after four patients, including three COVID-19 patients died allegedly due to lack of oxygen supply on Friday.

The next day a video of a COVID-19 victim’s body being carried in an auto-rickshaw went viral.

The hospital staff had handed over the body to the victim’s relatives in total violation of the protocol for disposal of bodies of COVID-19 victims.

The body was being shifted from the Government General Hospital in the town to the graveyard. Since the ambulance was not available at the hospital, the body was carried in the three-wheeler.

Neither the auto-rickshaw driver, said to be a relative of the deceased nor the municipal employee sitting with him were wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) kits.

Nizamabad District Collector C. Narayana Reddy ordered an inquiry into the incident and dismissed the municipal employee, who was working on a contract basis.

The Collector said the relatives of the deceased were not ready to wait for the ambulance and insisted that they be allowed to carry the body in their own auto-rickshaw.

Director of Medical Education Ramesh Reddy has directed the hospital superintendent to file criminal cases against those employees who handed over the body for transporting it in the auto-rickshaw.

Tollywood producers prepared to skip Sankranthi 2021

Going with the current situations and a huge spike in the number of coronavirus cases, it is clear that it is not possible to kickstart the film shoots anytime soon. Some of the producers initially predicted that they could release the films for Dasara and soon they felt that they can release the movies for Sankranthi 2021. Going with the current trend, several filmmakers came to the conclusion that Tollywood will not open before summer 2021.

A distributor turned producer says that the theatres will not open before the vaccination for coronavirus is out. Even if they are opened, they would suffer badly because of the low footfalls. Some of the producers too will not dare to release their films until they are extremely confident about people returning back to theatres. With the arrival of vaccination expected during the first quarter of 2021, Tollywood is expected to have a series of releases for summer next year. The film shoots may resume post Sankranthi if the number of cases comes down gradually. 2020 is going to be a bad miss for Tollywood
