Andhra court directs BJP leader to pay Rs 1 cr compensation

A city court has directed former Andhra Pradesh BJP chief Kanna Lakshminarayana, his wife and son to pay Rs 1 crore compensation to his daughter-in-law in a domestic violence case.

The Vijayawada First Additional Chief Metropolitan Court also directed the police to provide protection to Srilakshmi Keerti.

The former Minister, his wife Kanna Vijayalakshmi and their son Kanna Nagaraju have also been ordered to provide accommodation to Keerti and her daughter in their house and in case of failure to do so pay Rs 50,000 per month.

The magistrate also asked the respondents to pay Rs 50,000 Keerti for her daughter’s treatment.

Directing the respondents to pay the amounts in three months, the court, in the order passed on Wednesday, made it clear that if they failed to do so in the specified period they will have to pay 12 per cent interest.

Kanna Nagaraju had a love marriage with Keerti on May 10, 2006. Their daughter was born in 2013.

Keerti later filed a domestic violence case against her in-laws and husband.

The petitioner alleged that her mother-in-law used to taunt her and was not allowing her parents to see her. She also alleged that Nagaraju had developed extramarital relations with another woman and was harassing her. When questioned about this, he beat her up on March 29, 2015. Since then, he has kept her away.

Keerti had pleaded for protection to her and her daughter from the respondents besides seeking action against them under Domestic Violence Act, accommodation and treatment expenses.

Kanna Lakshminarayana served as a Minister in the Congress governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh from 1991 to 1994 and from 2004 to 2014. After the division of the state, he joined the BJP and was made party’s Andhra Pradesh unit president in 2018.

Kanna Nagaraju also served as Mayor of Guntur in the past.

What does Kanna Lakshminarayana’s elevation mean for AP BJP?

Finally at long last, the national leadership of the BJP has rehabilitated former state president and former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana. He has been made a member of the party’s 80-member national executive. This is being seen as a significant recognition of his importance in the party and especially in Andhra Pradesh.

Kanna was unceremoniously removed as the president over some internal issues. His pro-Amaravati stance too did not fit into the party’s overall tacit support to YS Jagan’s three capitals plan. Also, there were issues relating to election spending. Soon after removal, Kanna became inactive. It is only recently that he has become active in the party programmes.

Sources feel that the national leadership has realised the importance of Kanna in the changed circumstances. The party’s relationship with Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena is considerably strained and Somu Veerraju despite belonging to the same social group, is being found to be inadequate in conducting business with Jana Sena. Hence the party feels that Kanna Lakshminarayana could play a pivotal role in mending relations with Pawan. Also, Kanna is considered to be more aggressive and politically savvy. Kanna is also likely to be sent to Uttar Pradesh as an observer, said internal sources. This would give him a wider exposure and a bigger role in the party.

Along with Kanna, former MPs Vivek Venkata Swami, Garikapati Mohan Rao, AP JItender Reddy and minister G KIshan Reddy too have been made executive committee members. Actress Vijayasanthi and former minister Eatala Rajender have been appointed as special invitees to the national executive committee. Already DK Aruna, D Purandeswari and Y Satyakumar have been appointed as the vice president, general secretary and secretary respectively.

Kanna targets CM, raises voice against YCP rule

During his tenure as BJP AP President, Kanna Laxminarayana fiercely attacked the decisions of the Jaganmohan Reddy regime. His pungent criticism of the 3 Capitals plan was still fresh in memory. Once Somu Veerraju became the BJP AP President, all anti-Jagan voices within the BJP have slowly fallen silent. Along with them, Kanna has also stopped expressing his opinions on the AP Government’s policies or activities altogether.

However, in the past few weeks, Kanna is coming to the fore once again. He has recently criticised the Jagan rule for converting temples into Covid centres. Now, he has targetted the Chief Minister even on his letters to the Prime Minister. He asserted that the BJP would strongly oppose the CM asking the PM to stop supply of vaccines to the private hospitals.

Kanna said that the YCP was using even Coronavirus for its political purposes. They were creating problems for the hospitals not belonging to their party sympathisers.

Strongly objecting to the arrest of rebel MP Raghurama Raju, Kanna has said that the Government has behaved atrociously and acted out of vengeance.

Kanna, Buganna indulge in rapid fire over South Korean kits

The procurement of rapid test kits by the Andhra Pradesh government from South Korea at a cost higher than other states has now turned into a full blown war of words between BJP state president Kanna Laxminarayana and finance minister Buganna Rajendranath Reddy.

After BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana demanded a thorough probe into the procurement of covid rapid test kits from a South Korean company accusing the state government of causing a substantial loss to the exchequer, Buganna Rajedranath on Friday reacted sharply challenging the BJP state president to prove that the company in which he is the director was involved in the procurement of the kits.

“I am ready to resign as the finance minister post by 9 am if Kanna Lakshminarayana can prove that I hold the post of a director in the company that procured the kits. If you cannot prove your allegations by 9 am tommorrow, will you resign,” Buganna challenged.

On Saturday, Kanna lashed out at Buganna saying nowhere did he mention his name or the company which was invovled in the procurement of the rapid test kits. “It is like when someone shouts theif, thief, someone who thinks he is not invovled reacts and shrug his shoulders ‘I am not the one who stole the pumpkins.” “Gummadi kaya donga evarante bhujam tadumukunnattu,” Kanna said. Further, he asked Buganna to read the letter that he had written to the Governor and get back to him if he mentioned his name or the name of the company that procured the kits.

While questioning why the state government procured each kit for ₹730 plus GST when the Chhattisgarh government purchased the same kits from a South Korean company at ₹337 plus GST, Kanna pointed out that the government involved middlemen in the public procurement process. He wrote a letter to Governor Bishwabhushan Harichandan recently and questioned what prevented the government from directly dealing with the South Korean firm which was having a unit set up in Haryana and when Andhra Pradesh could manufacture the kits on its own. Reacting to this, Rajendranath Reddy asked whether Kanna would resign if he fails to prove the accusations he had levelled. The state finance minister said Kanna was making cheap comments at a time when the government is fighting the battle against covid-19. “It is not fair on the part of Kanna to make such comments. It is unbecoming of leader of his age and his position,” he fired at Kanna.

In the past, Kanna demanded that the government should come clean on the conflicting versions on the pricing of the testing kits. The government showed that the cost of each kit was Rs 730 plus GST while the health ministry stated that each kit was procured at Rs 640. The YSRCP mouthpiece Sakshi newspaper in its April 9 report stated that each kit cost Rs 1,200. As a matter of fact, the Sakshi newspaper reported that the kits were being exported to other countries from MedTech Zone. The Chhattisgarh government had procured each kit for Rs 337. “Which one of this is true? Why there are so many conflicting versions on the cost of each kit. The government should come clean on this. When I tweeted on this issue, Vijayasai Reddy leveled serious allegations against me,” he pointed out.

In the past, YSRCP MP Vijaysai Reddy launched a broadside against Kanna accusing him of dancing to the tunes of TDP Chandrababu Naidu and that the BJP leader was making allegations against the YSRCP government without the approval of central leadership. Further, Vijayasai Reddy defamed Kanna saying “Kanna is sold to TDP for Rs 20 crore and BJP MP Sujana Chowdhury acted as a broker in the deal.” Kanna threatend to slap criminal defamation against Vijaysai Reddy. The central BJP leadership took serious objections to the sweeping allegations leveled against its party president Kanna Laxminarayana by Vijayasai Reddy.

Vijayasai Reddy is talking about capital at the time of corona, shows party’s attitude: Kanna

At a time the world is in the grip of corona pandemic, Vijayasai Reddy and the ruling YSRCP were worried about shifting the capital from Amaravati to Vizag, BJP state president Kanna Laximanarayana said.

On Tuesday, Vijayasai Reddy said no power can stop the state government’s plan to make Vizag as the executive capital. “The executive capital will be set up in Vizag, whatever it takes,” Vijayasai Reddy asserted. Reacting to this, Kanna questioned the state government if this is the time to talk about making Vishakapatnam the executive capital when it should be focusing on containing the spread of Covid-19. “This shows the attitude of the YSRCP government. Vijayasai Reddy is consumed by power and talking out of arrogance. People are closely watching the governance of YSRCP in the last one year or so and will give a befitting reply when time comes,” Kanna said.

Claiming that he worked as a chartered accountant for Sujana Chowdary, Vijayasai Reddy on Tuesday levelled sweeping allegations against the BJP MP saying he had defaulted on loans by floating several shell and bogus companies. “I have evidence to nail Sujana. How much money did Sujana and Purandeshwari receive from the BJP central leadership during the elections? Kanna is sold to the TDP for Rs 20 crore and BJP MP Sujana Chowdary has acted as a broker in this deal. Kanna, I’m asking you again. Have you not sold yourself out to Sujana Chowdary?” Kanna again challenged Vijayasai Reddy to take an oath in Kanipakam temple to prove his comments and said he will file a criminal defamation case against Vijayasai Reddy for the sweeping allegations. On his part, Viaysai Reddy addressing a press conference said he was ready to take an oath in Kanipakam or even Tirumala Balaji temple.

Kanna further said the Bharatiya Janata Party does not believe in the philosophy of distributing money during the elections. “It is not in the DNA of our party to distribute money during the elections. The BJP under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and J P Nadda does not believe in the politics of money or corruption. Vijayasai Reddy is speaking out of ‘adhikara madham’. Every week, Vijayasai Reddy goes to court and swears by Bhagavad Gita. Such oaths of lies are not new to Vijayasai Reddy. He is well-versed in distribution of money,” Kanna fired.

Kanna demands White Paper on testing facilities

As the number of positive cases in AP rose to 572 with 38 fresh cases reported in last 24 hours, BJP state president Kanna Laxminarayana on Friday shot off a letter to Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to come clean on the measures being initiated by the government to contain the spread of the corona virus.

In the letter, the state BJP president demanded that the government come out with a White Paper on how many testing kits were currently available, how many isolation wards were set up, the number of quarantine facilities in the state. He said there are trust issues with the people raising doubts over the number of tests being conducted and the availability of testing kits.

In the past, TDP president and former chief minister had raised concerns and questions over the data shared by the state government saying cases were relatively low due to less testing and inadequate facilities. He accused the state government of suppressing the actual numbers and had expressed anguish over the spike in number of corona cases, stating that AP has reported a 1,021% rise in the cases as against the national average of 222 %.

Jagan has no power to shift Capital: Kanna

BJP AP President Kanna Laxminarayana once again strongly countered the Jagan Reddy government’s move to create 3 Capitals in the name of reports of different committees. Kanna made it clear that Jagan Reddy has no authority whatsoever to shift Capital from Amaravati. It is because of the tough political and constitutional processes required. He pointed out that the previous Chandrababu Naidu government took Capital location decision through the due process of achieving political consensus inside and outside the legislature. Jagan himself approved Amaravati Capital Project.

Kanna asked how AP CM can now unilaterally decide to reverse the previous Capital City decision. It should not be forgotten that all political parties had
given their approval for the centrally located Amaravati. He clarified that the BJP would do everything in its powers to stop the Capital shifting. Kanna said that the Central Government has no role to play in the decision making process regarding Capital City in a particular state. But this doesn’t mean that a state government can take any decision it wants. Kanna said that as a political party, the BJP would do what it has to do to resolve the AP Capital crisis. Nobody can reverse the significant Amaravati City decisions without having consent from all political parties. As this argument is rising, Jagan is proposing to hold an all-party meeting. There are doubts whether it would be conducted in a transparent manner or not. The BJP AP leaders are however totally confident that Jagan Circar’s master plan to shift Capital would end up in a disaster eventually.

CM Jagan 3 Capitals is mad thinking: Kanna

BJP Andhra Pradesh President Kanna Lakshminarayana strongly opposed AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy’s proposal for 3 Capital Cities for the state. He asserted that the BJP would not accept any separation of seat of administration from the seat of legislature under any circumstances. Kanna said that it would be sheer mad thinking to set up Legislative Assembly in one place and Secretariat at another place. Such a policy would badly damage the overall interests of the state. In just six months, CM Jagan Reddy has lost total control over administration. Kanna said that because of Jagan Reddy’s inexperience and greed, AP is going backwards in all respects by over 20 years.

Kanna Lakshminarayana appealed to the people to give ‘One Chance’ to the BJP next time for better rule. Both the regional parties – TDP and YCP – have failed miserably. Kanna said that both Chandrababu and Jagan have failed to protect the interests of AP people. If the state is to have development and peaceful living of people, only a national party like BJP should be brought to power. Kanna also asserted that the BJP would not sit silently if Jagan Reddy shifts the administrative capital from out of Amaravati. Assembly and Secretariat should continue in Amaravati only.

Kanna shocking comments on Jagan 100 days rule

BJP State President Kanna Laxminarayana finally broke his silence on the 100-day ruling of the Jaganmohan Reddy government. Not a single constructive activity is taken up till today. Kanna said that CM Jagan’s lack of experience and faction mindset is clearly visible all through. Why is Jagan now talking about misdeeds in the previous five years rule of TDP rather than he has done for AP in the past 100 days? There’s nothing that YCP can be proud of. A feeling is creeping into Andhra society that their state is no longer safe in the hands of YCP.

Kanna said that Jagan obviously has no grip or idea over the administration and his reverse policies have already done irreparable damage to the people. YCP boss showed greater interest in religious propaganda and conversions than good governance. Kanna asked why Jagan cancelled Polavaram contract though it was personally supervised and given by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to Navayuga Company. When AP people struggled with floods, CM went on a family trip to US. Jagan promised to create 4 lakh jobs but greater number of people were thrown out of work because of his sand and other reverse policies.

BJP team tours in Andhra Capital area

BJP State President Kanna Laxminarayana, MP Sujana Chowdary and others visited stalled buildings in Amaravati Capital City area. They came to to express their solidarity to farmers who gave 33,000 acres. Their visit assumed significance amid signals given by Jagan Circar on the shifting of the Andhra Capital. The BJP leaders’ visit coincided with the arrival of CM Jaganmohan Reddy to Amaravati after a day long visit to Delhi.

Kanna told Amaravati farmers that their party would extend total support to their cause. He reminded them of the Padayatra promise made by Jaganmohan Reddy not to shift the capital out of Amaravati. Kanna mockingly said that the same YCP leader has gone back on his promise now. Had Jagan talked about the shifting of capital, what would be the reaction of coastal districts in the election?

Kanna said that he had supported the Amaravati Capital City right from the beginning. He reminded Jagan of his repeated statement that he would not break any promise. But now Jaganmohan Reddy has made it a habit of breaking promises to all sections of people.

Results reveal how much ‘anti’ people have on Chandrababu: Kanna

Andhra Pradesh BJP Chief Kanna Lakshminarayana responded on Telangana results today. He told Telangana results revealed how much anti mood Telangana people have on Chandrababu.

Kanna lakshminarayana added that, if Chandrababu Naidu had not campaigned in Telangana , results might have been little different. But as Chandrababu Naidu campaigned, people how completely polarized against Praja Kootami in which Chandrababu Naidu is part of. Kanna lakshminarayana also told that the same results will repeat in Andhra Pradesh also. He responded on Lagadapati predictions as well. Kanna told, for the reasons best known only to him, Lagadapati supported Chandrababu Naidu at the cost of his own credibility this time. He opined that, because of Chandrababu Naidu people got clarity about whom to cast their vote.

Not only TDP but entire Praja kootami bit the dust this time and most of the people now pointing fingers at Chandrababu Naidu for this . Because, the election was contested as if it is KCR versus CBN rather than TRS vs Congress.

We stopped TDP from robbing Agrigold assets, says Kanna

BJP has been vocal in criticising the TDP government on the issue of doing justice to cheated depositors of Agrigold scam. TDP has accused BJP of giving misinformation the scam to the public. Now, BJP AP president Kanna Lakshminarayana has asserted that it is their party that has stopped the ruling TDP from robbing the valuable Agrigold properties. His comments assume significance at a time when the auction of Agrigold could not be successfully carried out to pay back the aggrieved depositors.

Recently, the Agrigold owners have said that the Haailand resort property was not their asset, which gave rise to suspicions on a possible cover-up. Kanna Lakshminarayana had seized the opportunity to blame the TDP for the troubles of the Agrigold depositors. Meanwhile, there are also rumours that the Agrigold assets could not be auctioned because of lack of buyers due to crisis caused by demonetisation.

The BJP is making Agrigold one of the major issues on which it wants to corner TDP in 2019 general election. Party national spokesperson and MP GVL Narasimha Rao has passed serious comments on the Agrigold issue several times, which has triggered a war of words between BJP and TDP.

Kanna Lakshminarayana is carrying forward GVL’s attack and he accused the Naidu government of snatching away fertile lands in Amaravati area and doing virtually commercial business in the name of Capital city construction. He sympathised with the farmers of Undavalli and Penubaka villages in capital area. Kanna called upon the people to reject the Naidu rule and save the AP state from further scams.

Secret deal: Will Pawan field a weak candidate?

Till now, some TDP leaders have said BJP will not get a single seat in 2019 elections if it contests alone. At the same time, they are saying there will be a secret understanding between YCP and BJP.

So, one way TDP leaders’ is correct and in the other instance, their logic is wrong. According to latest developments, BJP will certainly win some seats and this is clear from the facts below.

YCP is not going to give party ticket to its strong leader Lella Appi Reddy in Guntur West assembly segment in 2019 elections. In his place, it is all set to field a considerably weak candidate named Yesuratnam, who is a retired police officer and political novice.

Why does YCP come forward to ensure defeat of its own candidate? Analysts say that this is only part of the secret deal. Sources say this is all to benefit BJP State president Kanna Lakshminarayana who is going to contest from Guntur West. But this may not be enough to ensure Kanna’s victory. So, it requires another helping hand, that is from Pawan. Now TDP leaders are eager to find out who are probable candidates from Jana Sena and whether Pawan will pick up a strong candidate from among the available lot in Guntur West.

So, clarity has come with regard to BJP-YCP deal. But what about Jana Sena? Will it take the secret deal? Only time will tell.

BJP set to provoke Seema sentiment in AP

Given any opportunity, BJP leaders in AP are criticising what they describe as a centralised development in Amaravati capital city and its nearby districts and their related projects like multi-crore Polavaram.

The reasons for BJP’s changed strategy are understandable as they come in the face of increasing loss of people’s trust in different regions of AP caused by TDP’s bitter criticism on special status and reorganisation promises.

BJP is now saying Rayalaseema projects and this region’s developmental works are being neglected while those in other parts of the State are given greater importance by TDP regime. The BJP leadership is of the view that it should at least make big gains in some parts by provoking Seema sentiment.

This is why that during his recent visit to Seema, BJP state president Kanna Lakshminarayana said that the government was ignoring Handri-Neeva and Galeru-Nagari irrigation projects at the cost of welfare of farmers in the region.

He mocked at the TDP, saying Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been visiting Polavaram every week but not showing one-tenth of this interest to Seema projects.

BJP is also criticising TDP on the issue of its failed promises made in 2014 elections with regard to Seema region development. Proddatur Milk Factory was not revived till now and there is no move to restore Chennur Sugar Factory. In CM’s own district, the public sector dairy was not revived nor any effort was made towards that goal till now, Kanna said.

On its part, it is well known that TDP is criticising BJP Central leadership and PM Modi over failed promises of 2014 state division.

Finally, all the parties are coming out with their election manifestoes by listing same old promises with new catchlines once again. Ultimately, it is for the people to decide which party failed less and which failed more.

Somu Veerraju shocked , turmoil in BJP

BJP AP president post has been vacant for more than one year, which was filled finally with Kanna Lakshmi Narayana. however there have been various names surfaced for this post time to time, including – Somu veerraju, Manikyala Rao. There were even rumours that CBI ex JD Lakshmi Narayana will get this top post. But finally many people felt that this top position will go to Somu veerraju. But in a rather surprising move BJP High Command chose Kanna Lakshmi Narayana who joined party only couple of years back over Somu veerraju who is loyalist of BJP for several decades.

It seems Somu veerraju is upset by this move. Even though he and his group accepted that they will abide by party decision until the evening, after evening suddenly things changed. Some members of Somu veerraju group like Malakondayya, Bommula Dattu have announced their resignation to party posts in response to the injustice meted out to their leader Somai Veerraju. They told, their resignations were sent to party national president Amit Shah and general secretary Ram Madhav. Even Somu veerraju is not accessible to party leaders and caders after evening.

Actually BJP high command tried to balance between Kanna Lakshmi Narayana and Somu veerraju. while they gave party president post to Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, they announced state election convener post to Somu veerraju. We will have to wait and see how BJP party politics will take a turn in future because of this.

Kanna’s appointment, a delayed medicine for party in AP

The Bharatiya Janata Party had finally cleared the long-pending issue of naming its president for the AP unit. It had made former Congress minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, as the State unit president while MLC Somu Veerraju was made the party election management committee convenor. As both the leaders are from the Kapu community, it is seen as BJP’s mission to woo the community voters in its favour. This attempt was made in 2009 by actor Chiranjeevi who floated Praja Rajyam Party and had won just 18 Assembly seats. Though later he had merged the party with the Congress, the community remains party less hanging on to the Telugu Desam Party for decades.

Now, with the twin appointments, the BJP wants to make inroads into the Kapu community in the State, with the TDP dominated by the Kammas and the YSR Congress held by the Reddys, the two dominant castes in the State. It was, perhaps for this reason, Kapu patriarch and former minister Mudragada Padmanabham, had a one-to-one meeting with Kanna Lakshminarayana, hours after the latter’s elevation. Though what transpired between the two leaders is not known to the outside world, it is assumed that the two leaders must have discussed about giving greater elevation to the community through BJP.

Kanna Lakshminarayana is a strong leader from the Kapu community, particularly in the coastal districts. He was a staunch follower of late Vangaveeti Mohana Ranga Rao, who is known as an icon for the community here. Comparatively, he enjoys greater support in the community that would matter to the BJP, in terms of votes.

But, it is seen as a delayed experiment. Kanna’s elevation was expected at least a year ago when the party was in its peak in the State, though was in alliance with the TDP. Its incumbent, Kambhampati Haribabu and its former senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu, were seen as more loyal to the TDP than the BJP. There was resentment from majority of the party leaders in the State against these two leaders and strongly wanted Kanna to be made the party chief to take on the TDP.

However, over the months, political developments have put the BJP on death bed in the State with people strongly believing that it had done injustice to the State and Modi-Shah have betrayed the State by denying the special category status. There is no positive mood for the party as it was there in the past and Kanna’s elevation may not help the party get stronger in the State. Though Kanna enjoys mass support, the BJP had lost its image and nothing would help the party to win even a single seat in the next election. Thus, Kanna’s elevation is seen as a medicine delayed and not much of a treatment could be done to strengthen the party.

BJP gets ready for expansion in AP

Visakhapatnam: The Bharatiya Janata Party is all set to expand its base in Andhra Pradesh in the coming months. While the party leaders claim that the expansion is set to take off once the party chief Amit Shah visits the State in next month, it is said that the actual work at the ground level would begin only after the replacement of the party leadership in the State.

Amit Shah had during his earlier visit to the State in February 2016 had asked the party leaders to march forward expanding the party base in the State. He saw a gap for BJP in the State politics with the debacle of the Congress and the failure of YSR Congress to be the main Opposition. He had categorically stated that people were looking for a real alternative party in the State and wanted the leaders to cash in on the opportunity. However, things did not go as anticipated and the party remained where it started in the State.

The leaders like Somu Veerraju, Kanna Lakshminarayana, Daggubati Purandheswari and others have been trying to expand the party but it could not move an inch forward with Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu favouring ties with the ruling Telugu Desam Party in the State and his loyalist and AP unit president K Haribabu not showing interest to displease TDP. Neither Venkaiah Naidu nor Haribabu acted on the complaints of the local leaders that the TDP was not allowing the party to expand its base. The leaders, at Bhimavaram meeting held in 2016, complained that the TDP leaders were not allowing them to take up membership drive in the villages fearing a threat.

Sources in the BJP said that the party national leadership is serious on the slow pace of expansion in the State. It is said that the leaders have complained against Venkaiah Naidu and Haribabu for not entertaining them to expand the base which was taken up seriously by the high command. It is for this reason, the party national leadership had decided to drop Haribabu and ask Venkaiah Naidu not to interfere with the AP affairs. This is expected to happen after Amit Shah’s visit to the State and the proposed national executive to be held in Visakhapatnam in June.

The party is also seriously weighing the candidatures of Somu Veerraju, Kanna Lakshminarayana and Purandheswari for the AP president post. A good number of party senior leaders are favouring Veerraju or Kanna who represent the Kapu community, a section of leaders are also in support of Purandheswari representing the dominant Kamma community in the State. It is to be seen how the BJP leadership would make its next move to expand its base in the State.

Pushkaralu Full of Corruption : Kanna

Exposing uneasy relationship  between the  Bharatiya Janata Party and ruling Telugu Desam party, former minister and BJP leader Kanna Lakshminarayana made a scathing attack on the government that Godavari Pushkara arrangements were reeking of corruption everywhere.

Kanna’s hard talk is sure to rustle Telugu Desam jimmies as the ruling party has never expected such discontent spring from state BJP.

Even though a section in the BJP feels  that TDP is not accommodating the  party workers at any level,  state BJP leadership has never allowed this grow to the level of causing discomfort in the alliance in the state. There has been a gulf between the group unhappy with TDP and BJP  state leadership which has cordial relationship with the TDP leadership. Kanna’s outburst is indicative of  tension building up in the party.

Today,Kanna, along with local BJP leaders visited many Pushkara Ghats in and around Rajahmundry.

“Nowhere are the works of Pushkaralu up to satisfactory. Except the main ghat in Rajahmundry which is often visited by chief minister Chadrababu Naidu  , Ghat works are incomplete everywhere. At a particular ghat I visited not even 10 per cent of the total works have been completed. Out of the estimated cost of the Rs 42 lakh, the works completed would not cost more than two lakhs,” Kanna said.

He said  there was more hype than the substance in the government’s Pushkara campaign.

” It is unfortunate that corruption has crept into the sacred works of Godavari Pushkaralu. Government should ensure that the event which should remain the symbol of Telugu people pride and culture be free from corruption,” he cautioned the government.

Kanna, who is now camping in Rajahmundry, took strong objection to the marginalization of the BJP minister Manikyala Rao in the chief minister Chandrababu Naidu’s cabinet.

“He has been kept in the dark with regard to the decisions related to the Pushkaralu. He is not being consulted in the works and programs, even though he is minster for endowments,” Kanna said.

Kanna was also critical of chief minister Naidu’s stance in the case related to MRO Vanajakshi who was attacked Dunduluru MLA Ch Prabhakar.

“Naidu appears to be working towards striking a deal. It looks like he is biased in favor of his party MLA,” he said adding that it would not instill confidence  among the woman officers in the state.

However, home minister Nimmakayala Rajaiah, dismissed the remarks of Kanna as baseless.

” Kanna is not aware of full scale of works and mechanism in place to watch the quality of the works,,” he said. According to the minister, a JNTU team was on the job of verifying the works for their quality.

Rajahmundry MLA Gorantla Buchhaiah Chowdary said the question of sidelining the endowments minister doesn’t arise as the CM Naidu himself in overseeing every work.
