MAA elections: Manchu Manoj responds to Ram Gopal Varma’s barb

0

Ram Gopal Varma is no stranger to controversies, but on Tuesday, he waded into one that has wracked Tollywood’s influential trade body, Movie Artists Association (MAA) following its just-concluded elections.

Referring to the election, RGV tweeted, “Cine’MAA’ is a CIRCUS full of JOKERS.” Actor Manchu Manoj, son of veteran Telugu star Mohan Babu, and brother of the newly-elected MAA President, Manchu Vishnu, responded at once by taking a swipe at the director.

“And you are the Ring Master, sir,” Manoj tweeted back. RGV ignored Manoj’s response and instead struck a philosophical note in a rather lengthy tweet, which said: “Intellectuals are bigger fools than fools because they do not realise that the world is full of fools who cannot understand intelligence and that’s the reason why fools become more successful than intellectuals.”

On the work front, Ram Gopal Varma recently announced his upcoming movie titled “Konda” based on the lives of the flamboyant political couple from Warangal, Konda Murali and Surekha. Talking about the film, RGV said it would portray how extraordinary circumstances moulded extraordinary people such as Konda Murali.

Manoj’s remarkable makeover is stunning

1

Hero Manchu Manoj was out of the light in the recent years due to reasons best known to him. But the Manchu hero is now eyeing a comeback and wants to do it with a bang.

But first Manoj worked on his body and toned down 15 kilos. His transformation is really remarkable in this look where we can see him super slim. That’s really a fantastic effort and for this Manoj had followed a strict Ayurvedic diet and heavy physical workouts.

Coming to the films, Manoj has lined two films and that too bilinguals. One film each with Tamil and Telugu directors are in pre-production stages and very soon, they will hit the floors.

This means Manoj is set to have two releases in 2021 which would fill the gap of his missing out.

Birthday Special Interview: Manchu Manoj

0

Actor Manchu Manoj is celebrating his birthday today. The actor is away from movies from some time and he is making his comeback with Aham Brahmasmi, a pan Indian action entertainer that is made on a big budget. Here are the excerpts from his recent interview:

I am not celebrating my birthday. Spending time to help the migrant workers to reach their home towns across various regions.

If there was no coronavirus outbreak, the trailer of my next film Aham Brahmasmi would have been out on my birthday. All the songs came out really well. The action stunts are the major highlights of Aham Brahmasmi. Six crores will be sent for an action episode (6-8 minutes) which will be choreographed by Peter Heins.

Coronavirus pandemic will help producers who are producing small films. OTT market is now open for small budget films. They would get a decent release through OTT platforms.

Theatre owners never stepped out to support small movies. When the theatres are not ready to screen small films, it is better to get an OTT release for them. No exhibitor assures a decent release for small budget films and if they do so, small budget films will survive.

I had to stay away from films because of my personal life. Will continue doing good films from now. I am never detached from movies. Watched thousands of movies, web series in the recent years. Aham Brahmasmi is a film that will make me proud.

Time for Manchu family to reinvent themselves ?

Like Mega, Nandamuri and Akkineni families, Manchu family led by Mohan Babu has also established some popularity for themselves among Telugu audience. Carrying the legacy of Mohan Babu are his sons Manchu Vishnu and Manoj. In the initial days, both Vishnu and Manoj showed some promise and looked like they are going to assume the mantle of their father. But, they couldn’t make a visible mark in Tollywood. Audience have thoroughly rejected their lacklustre films.

What is more striking is that their films are ending without a trace at the box office despite getting decent talk and reviews. The poor show of Mohan Babu’s Gayatri, which also has Manchu Vishnu in a crucial role, lends credence to the fact that audience is turning a cold shoulder to Manchu family’s films.

Gayatri, which opened in cinemas last Friday, managed to get lukewarm reviews from all corners. The film generated good buzz after the impressive trailers featuring Mohan Babu in an intense role was unveiled. The team has aggressively promoted the film. Despite all these positives going its way, Gayatri is now heading towards becoming one of the biggest disasters in recent times. Embarrassingly, Sai Dharam Tej’s Inttelligent, which has been rated very low by audience and critics, is faring better than Gayatri.

Looking at the disappointing run of Gayatri, it is clearly evident that audience is not interested to watch Manchu family’s films irrespective of the content with which they are made. One of main reasons why Manchu family is failing to attract audience is they have delivered back to back low quality films. Their poor track record is turning out to be a big liability for every new film and hurting its box office performance.

Vishnu is trying his best to impress audience with different films but couldn’t taste success. Manoj’s career has completely fizzled out with successive flops.

It is time for Manchu heroes to reassess their careers and find a way to impress audience. They have to come up with sensible content that appeals to all sections of audience. They have to select fresh scripts which have scope for entertainment and they should stay away from unnecessary controversies to restore some faith among audience. It is time they reinvent themselves. Otherwise, the future of Manchu family looks very bleak.

New Craft for Manchu Manoj

0

The laid back Manchu hero Manoj is known for venturing into different crafts of cinema including choreographing stunts, writing lyrics and even singing songs. But now, he will be trying a hand in music composing that too for a Hollywood flick Basmati Blues.

This film features his elder sister Manchu Lakshmi and Manoj will team up with composer and friend Achu Rajamani along with renowned Rock band Pearl Jam for it. It actually came as a surprise to many because Manoj has been quite tight lipped about the same. The film also features Oscar winning actress Brie Larson in the lead and Utkarsh Ambudkar, Scot Bakula and Donald Sutherland in lead roles.

Will this mean Manchu Manoj will become internationally famous composer some day? Looks like things are going in multiple exciting paths for the actor! It is quite interesting to see the young hero explore his skills in various experimental ways and also excel in them.

‘ Okkadu Migiladu ‘ Review

Okkadu Migiladu Review, Okkadu Migiladu Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating 1.5/5

Surya (Manchu Manoj), a Srilankan refugee, fights for justice in 3 university girls’ death case. As minister’s two sons are involved in the case, to protect them, police arrest surya in a fake case. While in custody, Surya narrates his flashback to one good cop (Posani) out there.

Surya narrates the ordeal of tamil origin people in Srilanka. One of the heart-wrenching episodes is in which a group of tamil people from the island nation try to cross the sea and reach the Indian coast. However, they lose their way in the middle of the sea and face lot of difficulties.

Rest of the story is about the plight of the refugees in the boat and how Surya resolves the issue in India.

Analysis:

This film is an official remake of tamil film ‘Ravana Desam’, but it was not officially announced. Majority of the film’s visuals have been reused from Tamil film. In case of remakes, people do usually re-shoot the film. In this un-usual case, entire second half i.e. the entire boat journey scenes and action episodes from first half, are re-used from Tamil film. Only the hero character has been changed.

Okkadu MIgiladu is a kind of dark thriller. The interrogation scenes in first half are violent and the entire second half is crude and appalling. First half starts off in routine manner, but things turn a little interesting as Surya narrates how their village in srilanka suffered between LTTE and Government. However, the director couldn’t build a gripping story after this point.

Second half has too many tear-jerking episodes but it’s not fair to expect commercial elements. While we feel sorry for the refugees who are dying one after another in the boat, the over sentiment gets boredom beyond a point. This true story is narrated in a hard-hitting manner but it fails to capture the interest at any point in the film. Many scenes could have been censored. V.K. Ramraj’s Cinematography deserves special mention, particularly the boat sequences are well presented.

Performances:

Manoj Manchu got a different role(s) in this film. As Surya his dialogue delivery is OK, but as peter he is loud and diction lacks clarity. He looks bulky and needs to cut down his overweight to sustain. Aneesha Ambrose as TV reporter is adequate. Director Ajay played a very good as Victor.

Verdict:

On the whole, ‘ Okkadu Migiladu ‘ is a futile attempt to depict the ordeal of srilanka refugees who escape from srilanka to reach India. The refugees’ boat journey covers entire 2nd half and their fight with srilanka army is showcased in the first half. An overdose of violence, excessively sentimental scenes and lackluster narration make audience restless throughout the film.
