TDP stages protest at petrol bunks in Andhra for VAT cut

0

Andhra Pradesh’s opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Tuesday staged protests at petrol bunks across the state, demanding the YSRCP government cut Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel.

Leaders and cadres of the TDP took part in the protest in response to the call given by the party’s national President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP activists held banners and placards and raised slogans, criticising the Jaganmohan Reddy government for not reducing VAT on petrol and diesel. They said since many states have reduced VAT, providing relief to common man, Andhra Pradesh should also follow them.

The TDP leaders alleged that the Chief Minister was not doing anything to provide relief to the common public from rising prices of essential commodities. The protesters sounded the horns of their bikes to register their protest.

The TDP leaders demanded that Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy take steps to reduce VAT on fuel without trying to mislead people. They said people knew how the state government was collecting Rs 5 to Rs 7 per litre in excess on fuel when compared to other states.

The Telugu Desam leaders held protests at Dharna Chowk, Bhavanipuram, Benz Circle, and other places in Vijayawada city. Former minister Kollu Ravindra, party state General Secretary Panchumarty Anuradha, former mayor Gadde Anuradha and others took part. They asserted that their party would continue its agitation till the government would give up its adamant attitude on fuel prices.

At some places, police resorted to preventive arrests of TDP leaders and disallowed them from taking part in protests. Several leaders were taken into custody in Kadapa district during the day.

At some places, TDP leaders staged novel protest by garlanding and breaking coconuts in front of petrol and diesel pumps. They sought blessings of the gods for bestowing good sense on the Chief Minister to reduce fuel prices so as to reduce the financial burden on the common public.

In Tirupati, former MLA Sugunamma led the TDP protest at the local petrol bunks.

The main opposition party held hour-long protests in Gannavaram, Eluru, Gudivada, Rajahmundry, Tenali, Ponnur, Guntur, and other places. MLA Gorantla Butchayya Chowdary, former MLAs Alapati Raja, Dhulipalla Narendra and other leaders took part in protests in their respective places.

They demanded the YSRCP government to explain why it was not willing to reduce VAT even when the Central government has cut the excise duty on fuel.

Chandrababu’s direct calls energise TDP workers

0

There is a very positive feedback about TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu these days from the party workers. There are also reports that he has changed his working style. Of late, Chandrababu Naidu is directly talking to the party workers at the grassroots level. He is calling up ordinary party workers at the ground level and is interacting with the.

There are instances that he is having a detailed chat with three to four party workers. Each conversation is of 25 to 30 minutes duration. What is interesting is that these are not the normal chats enquiring about the well-being of the family members or about the local political situation. He is said to be solving the problems the party workers are facing at the ground level.

Recently, a local woman activist from Kachavaram in East Godavari district had faced problems filing her nomination papers. She was threatened by the YSRCP workers. Not only did Chandrababu instil confidence in her, but also mobilised the local workers to help her file nomination papers. Similarly, TDP activist Ramesh, who was injured in an attack by political rivals, was pleasantly shocked when he got a call from Chandrababu Naidu himself. Chandrababu consoled him and assured him that the party would stand by him.

Though some sections in the party say that had Chandrababu done this while he was in power, things would not have to come to such a pass. But, a large section is happy that Chandrababu is responsive and aggressive. When the leader takes good care of the workers, the latter would be ready for any sacrifice in the cause of the party, the grassroots level workers feel.

TDP seeks protection for its candidates in local body polls

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday demanded the State Election Commissioner (SEC) to provide security to its candidates filing nominations for local body polls after a TDP candidate was attacked in Kuppam.

The former chief minister alleged that TDP candidate V. Venkatesh was attacked when he was filing nomination for polls to Kuppam municipality.

In a letter to SEC Neelam Sawhney, Naidu said it came to his notice that the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) goons attacked V. Venkatesh, who is the TDP candidate for the 14th ward in Kuppam municipality.

Kuppam in Chittoor district is the Assembly constituency represented by Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP chief said YSRCP leader Muniswamy and his henchmen attacked Venkatesh to prevent him from filing nomination.

Naidu told the SEC that over 25 to 30 goondas waylaid and assulted Venkatesh when he approached the nomination centre set up at MFC Junior College in Kuppam. The goons rained blows on Venkatesh and snatched away his nomination papers, tore them and then destroyed them. They also took away his cell phone.

Naidu said the attack was serious and an injured Venkatesh was thrown on the roadside, outside the nomination centre. When some of the followers of Dr Venkatesh tried to intervene, the miscreants tried to attack them. Finally, the attackers fled the scene leaving him in an unconscious state.

The TDP chief attached two photographs of Venkatesh with bleeding injury on his elbow.

Naidu demanded the SEC to provide security to candidates aspiring to contest in the present elections as directed recently by the Election Commission. He urged the poll panel to take immediate action against the culprits and also provide immediate protection to all the candidates intending to file nominations.

He also sought deployment of additional police force to ensure smooth, free and fair conduct of elections.

The SEC on Monday announced elections to local bodies, where polls were not conducted earlier for various reasons, including the death of contesting candidates.

The elections will be conducted for panchayats on November 14, municipalities on November 15 and ZPTC and MPTCs on November 16.

The elections are being held for 69 sarpanches and 533 ward members in 498 Gram Panchayats, 12 municipalities and the Nellore Municipal Corporation.

The municipalities that are going to polls include Akiveedu, Jaggayyapet, Kondapalli, Dachepalli, Gurazala, Darsi, Buchireddypalem, Kuppam, Bethamcherla, Kamalapuram, Rajampet and Penukonda.

YSRCP men prevent TDP leaders from filing nominations in Kuppam?

0

There are widespread allegations that the YSRCP goons are stopping the TDP candidates from filing nominations in Kuppam municipality. The TDP says that at several places, the TDP candidates were threatened with dire consequences if they filed their nomination papers. This has led to a tense situation in Kuppam municipality.

Kuppam is former chief minister and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu’s borough and the party has been winning every election since 1984. Chandrababu has recently toured Kuppam for four days recently to campaign for the party.

In Ward No 14, TDP candidate Venkatesh went to file his nomination papers. He was stopped by the YSRCP workers, who snatched away his papers. In the melee, Venkatesh suffered minor injuries. Venkatesh has lodged a complaint with the police claiming that he was prevented from filing his papers for the upcoming municipal elections. The filing of nominations closes at 3 pm on November 5.

TDP leader and former MLA Amarnath Reddy decried the attack on Venkatesh and alleged that the YSRCP was resorting to hooliganism to prevent the TDP leaders for filing nominations. He said that the TDP would not tolerate such attacks. He said that the YSRCP was afraid of losing the elections and was hence targeting the local TDP leaders.

TDP chief slams Andhra poll body for receiving nominations on Diwali

0

TDP President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday slammed the State Election Commission (SEC) for receiving nominations for local body elections on Diwali.

He came down heavily on the state poll panel, claiming it was not taking independent decisions and was “blindly following the orders” of the YSRCP government.

He questioned the rationale behind the SEC continuing the election process even on Diwali day.

“How can the candidates be asked to file their nominations when all others were celebrating the festival? The anarchic regime was deriving sadistic pleasure by hurting religious sentiments as well. Would they hold an election on Christmas,” he asked.

He demanded an explanation from the SEC and the DGP on the ruling YSRCP’s threats to prevent the opposition candidates from filing nominations in the civic body elections.

The TDP chief alleged that just like before, the YSRCP was trying to turn the present election to the 12 municipalities and one municipal corporation into a farce.

The ruling party leaders, the police and the officials were directly threatening and asking the opposition candidates not to file nominations. In some cases, nomination papers were being torn off, he said.

Naidu showed a video and pointed out how a village vice president belonging to the YSRCP was directly threatening the rival candidate not to file nomination.

“The YSRCP village leader was behaving locally just like how Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy has been behaving like an unlawful person at the state level. With their uncontrolled sadism and offences, the YSRCP leaders have turned Andhra Pradesh into a ‘State of lunatics’,” he said.

Naidu cautioned the opposition candidates to take maximum precautions to ensure that their nominations would remain valid. As the officials were trying to invalidate nominations at various stages, the candidates should take the help of advocates and get proper acknowledgements after filing nominations, he said, adding that copies of their nominations should be mailed to the District Collectors, the SEC and the election observers.

Naidu asserted that if the election officials committed any election fraud, the TDP would approach the courts and seek the required relief. The opposition candidates were receiving threats from the ruling party and they should record all such calls for evidence before the courts. The general public should also join the fight to prevent the anti-social elements and the YSRCP goondas from taking democracy for a ride, he said.

Referring to Kuppam polls, he alleged that Punganur Commissioner Lokeshwar Varma was appointed special officer for Kuppam in order to rig the elections. This officer has started ordering all the Government staff on duty in elections to ensure the YCP victory. He alleged that Varma behaved in a criminal way and got all 24 wards in Punganur declared unanimously for the YSRCP in the past.

Naidu asked how the SEC could appoint a tainted officer like Varma for Kuppam polls.

“The TDP got 25 percent more votes in Kuppam in the 2019 elections. Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy along with his officials were scheming to reverse this trend with their anarchic activities. The YSRCP leaders were indeed desperate to win all elections so as to cover up their Government’s miserable failures and rising unpopularity,” he said.

The TDP chief warned that if the officials continued to support the ‘Tughlaq’ rule, it would be the beginning of their end. “The TDP would surely form a commission to probe and punish all such officers who colluded with the lawless regime of Jagan Reddy,” he said.

Naidu also claimed that the CM and his MLAs were getting terrified of the rising discontent and resentment of all sections of the people against their government. Instead of showing his frustration in the civic polls, Jaganmohan Reddy should dissolve the Assembly and face the public, he demanded.

It’s Atchen vs Kala Venkat Rao in North Andhra TDP

0

The cold vibes between two TDP stalwarts of the Srikakulam district is threatening to engulf the whole of North Andhra. Both the leaders are considered close associates of Chandrababu Naidu. Both have a long history of association with the party. But, both the leaders seem to be at loggerheads and are said to be engaged in a cold war of sorts.

The hottest topic of discussion in North Andhra is about how Atchen Naidu is reportedly using everything at his command to harass Kala Venkat Rao. Sources say that Atchen is egging on small-time leaders to rebel against Kala Venkat Rao. Some of those who are being encouraged by Atchen Naidu were already suspended from the party. Recently, one such suspended person was seen rubbing shoulders with Atchen Naidu. What more? He organized all programmes under the banner of the TDP.

This expelled leader played a major role in the recent 36-hour deeksha of Chandrababu. The person in question was on the dais wearing a mask. Getting him to share stage with Chandrababu Naidu is no mean thing. Sources say this was mainly because of Atchen Naidu. The expelled leader is now said to be claiming that he would get the party ticket from Etcherla in 204 and not Kala Venkat Rao.

Sources also say that the feud between Kala and Atchen is only getting uglier. Atchen is said to be encouraging anti-Kala Venkat Rao faction. TDP insiders say it is about time Chandrababu Naidu intervenes and sets the house in order before things get out of control.

Rumblings in TDP over botched Delhi tour?

1

There are rumblings in the Telugu Desam over the botched up Delhi tour. A significant section of the party leaders feel that the whole thing was an exercise in futility. They feel that the party failed to achieve anything from this tour. Instead, it ended up exposing its own weaknesses. The party has shown itself to be of no consequence and importance at least for the present, they feel.

Some party insiders feel that the demand for imposing president’s rule should be the last weapon of the TDP. But, the party has used up this option much before the climax and has thus frittered away an opportunity. They also feel that the party has announced that it was going to meet both PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah without even securing their appointment. As a result, the party ended up as a laughing stock, they feel.

In fact, the PMO told the TDP leaders point blank that on the issue of law and order, they should only meet Amit Shah. Repeated trials received the same stock reply and thus the doors were closed.

Even with regard to meeting Amit Shah, there was no attempt to know Amit Shah’s engagements. As a result, the delegation returned almost empty handed. The only face-saving was the meeting with the President of the Country.

A significant section of the party feels that at least some prior homework should have been done before going to Delhi. If the party was unsure of getting the appointment of either Shah or Modi, at least Chandrababu Naidu should not have gone to Delhi. Some lower level delegation should have been sent, while Chandrababu should have held the fort in Amaravati.

Is Galla quitting active politics to protect business interests?

0

One thing that went unnoticed in the TDP hullabaloo during Chandrababu Naidu’s recent Delhi visit was that TDP MP from Guntur Galla Jayadev was absent. He was not there with Chandrababu and was nowhere to be seen. While the other two MPs – Rammohan Naidu and Kesineni Nani – were present, Galla was simply not there.

In fact, on every earlier occasion, Galla was a prominent fixture. He used to get the appointments fixed for Chandrababu. But this time around, Galla was conspicuous by his absence. Not just that. He was absent even during the 36-hour Deeksha of Chandrababu Naidu at Mangalagiri. Interestingly, the area where the protest was held comes under Guntur Lok Sabha constituency represented by Galla Jayadev.

Of late, Galla has been keeping a low profile. He has been silent ever since the YSRCP targeted his businesses. The YSRCP government cancelled the land allocation to the Amara Raja Batteries that Galla family owns. It also sent a closure notice to the unit alleging that it was polluting the villages. Cases were also booked against him and his family members on charges of land grabbing.

Some reliable sources revealed that Galla was contemplating quitting politics as business interests came first for him. He is planning to leave active politics behind and focus on his businesses.

What did Chandrababu achieve from his Delhi visit?

0

What did Chandrababu Naidu and his team achieve through its two-day tour of Delhi? There is a divided talk within the party of the very purpose of the visit. One section feels that the visit was pointless, but another section feels that the visit served the purpose by highlighting the issue to a larger audience.

Though Chandrababu failed to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he managed to secure an audience with the President of the country. He highlighted the issue of lawlessness in AP and the issue of ruling party-sponsored attack on the opposition. He has managed to establish the vicious role that the YSRCP leadership had played. Also, he managed to highlight the issue of drug menace.

During the two days he stayed in Delhi, Chandrababu addressed the press and also gave personal one-to-one interviews to all the media houses. He could have done the same thing while being in either Hyderabad or Vijayawada. But, he chose Delhi to get media attention. The media houses gave disproportionate coverage to Chandrababu. The ruling YSRCP did not have an immediate counter to this media blitzkrieg.

But some people within the TDP felt that the whole issue was being seen as an ego clash between two leaders. They feel that Chandrababu should also have highlighted issues like special status, Amaravati and Polavaram during his meeting with the President of the country. That would have given more credence to the party and would have given an impression that this was not a personal ego clash but a fight for state’s interest.

ABN YouTube channel damaging TDP with absurd titles!

0

In its over-enthusiasm to support TDP in Andhra Pradesh, the ABN YouTube channel is causing more damage to the TDP than benefitting it.

The channel is using misleading, irrelevant, absurd and ridiculous thumbnails for its videos which are being mocked by netizens on social media platforms thereby causing huge embarrassment to the TDP leadership.

These thumbnails are becoming a laughing stock on social media platforms putting TDP leaders and cadre in a fix.

For instance, the ABN YouTube channel’s videos on TDP chief N.Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Delhi to complain against YSRCP activists attacks on TDP offices, with such thumbnails have become viral and being trolled heavily on social media platforms.

These thumbnails have Telugu captions which say “Simham la adugu pettina Chadrababu” (Chandrababu stepped in Delhi like a lion), “Babu Delhi paryatana pai YCP lo kalavaram” (YCP tensed over Babu’s Delhi tour), “Rastrapathi aagraham, AP lo paalana maare chance” (President angry, likely change in government, indicating that President may dismiss Jagan government), “Delhi lo ugra rupam chupinchina Chandrababu, vadilede le” (Chandrabu exhibits his aggression in Delhi, will not leave this issue”.

The channel flooded such videos with absurd titles and thumbnails which gave enough material for not only netizens to mock at TDP and Chandrababu but also opposition parties.

Even common people feel and question where was the need for ABN YouTube channel to give such a ‘build up’ for Naidu’s Delhi trip.

These videos have also become weapons in the hands of those people who are supporting YSRCP under the guise of journalists.

They took screenshots of these videos and thumbnails and made them viral on social media platforms to attack Chandrababu and TDP.

Even TDP’s social media wing reportedly feels that ABN YouTube channel is indeed more benefitting YSRCP than TDP with these ridiculous videos and titles.

But the ABN management seems to have turned a blind eye to this menace. They seem to be just focused on attracting more hits and more views to earn more revenues out of these videos.

3 BJP Rajya Sabha MPs planning home’coming to TDP?

0

Are those turncoats who defected to other parties after the TDP lost the 2019 elections, now planning to return to the parent party? Soon after the crushing defeat of 2019, several prominent leaders of the TDP have joined the BJP. But now , it appears that all these leaders are trying to come back to the TDP.

Rajya Sabha MPs Sujana Chowdry, CM Ramesh and TG Venkatesh are said to thinking of joining hands with Chandrababu. They feel that they have not benefited by their association with the BJP. Also, their Rajy sabha terms are coming to an end by next year. There is no chance of their being reelected to the Rajya Sabha as the BJP does not have the required numbers in AP. Also, the BJP has no use for them as they have no influence outside AP.

Hence these leaders are now trying to join the TDP. Also they feel that they can be of some help to the TDP in case the elections are advanced. Sources say that Chandrababu too is paving way for re-entry. He is said to be of the opinion that their financial muscle would be needed if Jagan calls for early elections.

But, some party loyalists are said to be opposing the re-entry of these three MPs. They feel that by giving importance to defectors would undermine the hard work done by loyal party workers. But, Chandrababu appears determined to bring them back.

Drugs battle reaches Delhi power corridors, TDP

0

The YSRCP-TDP ruckus over the drug haul in AP has now shifted to Delhi. Both the parties have now taken the battle to Delhi and are fighting it out in the national capital. While the TDP delegation led by Chandrababu Naidu is already in Delhi and is trying to meet President Ram Nath Kovind. The YSRCP on the other hand, is trying to petition to the Central Election Commission to plead for the cancellation of the recognition of the TDP as a regional political party.

On October 19, TDP spokesperson made obnoxiously disparaging comments on YS Jagan in connection with the recent drug seizures. Reacting to this, the YSRCP cadres have attacked the party offices, including the state headquarters in a big way. Protesting against this Chandrababu has called for a bandh on October 21. In response, the YSRCP too has given a call for state-wide protests. Now both the parties have taken the issue to Delhi.

The TDP leaders, led by Chandrababu, have secured an appointment with President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday. In view of Covid restrictions, only five members have been allowed to meet the President. Meanwhile, the TDP is trying to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah. .

On the other hand, the YSRCP is trying to take the issue of Pattabhi’s comments to the notice of the Central Election Commission. The party will seek the cancellation of the recognition of the TDP in view of the unfair practices and lack of political decorum. Thus the whole issue has now shifted to Delhi.

TDP workers troop in to support Chandrababu’s protest

1

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and workers from different parts of Andhra Pradesh were pouring at the Mangalagiri party headquarters where party president N. Chandrababu Naidu continued his sit-in on Friday to protest Tuesday’s attacks allegedly by the workers of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

A large number of party supporters from various parts of the State descended on the party’s central office to express solidarity with their leader.

TDP leaders alleged that due to the traffic restrictions imposed by police, those coming from other parts of the state were being forced to leave their vehicles and walk long distances to reach the party office.

Naidu, who began the 36-hour protest at 8 a.m. on Thursday, spent the night at the protest site and resumed the protest on Friday morning after garlanding the statue of party founder and former chief minister N.T. Rama Rao. The protest with the title ‘fight against state terrorism’ will continue till 8 p.m. on Friday.

TDP leaders and workers coming to the party office were gathering in front of Naidu sitting on a specially arranged sofa. The TDP chief was responding with folded hands. Party leaders were addressing the gathering to condemn the attacks on party offices and leaders.

Naidu has demanded the Centre’s intervention to save the people of Andhra Pradesh from what he called the drug mafia and the undemocratic and fascist regime.

The leader of opposition has urged the Centre to invoke Article 356, saying Andhra Pradesh in its present situation was a fit case for imposition of the President’s rule.

He alleged that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy was growing impatient over the increasing public resentment against his government’s atrocities, all round corruption and attacks on all constitutional institutions. Tuesday’s attack on TDP main office was not a sporadic, isolated incident but a culmination of two-and-a-half years of lawless, anarchic and oppressive regime, he said.

Alleged workers of YSRCP attacked TDP’s central office on Tuesday in an apparent reaction to TDP spokesman Pattabhi Ram using abusive words while criticising Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

TDP offices in some other places in the state and Pattabhi Ram’s house in Vijayawada were also attacked.

Ram was arrested by the police on Wednesday and a court in Vijayawada sent him to judicial custody for 14 days.

Why is Chandrababu upset with party seniors?

1

TDP boss Chandrababu Naidu is said to be mightily upset with the senior leaders in his party. He is said to be angry with the way they stayed lukewarm during the recent attacks on the TDP offices by YSRCP workers. He found that barring Atchen Naidu and a handful of other leaders, no leader of any importance has joined the TDP protests.

He is also livid that the state-wide bandh call that he gave ended up as a damp squib. In many places, the TDP leaders did not take to streets and enforce the bandh. The reports from various districts revealed that the local satraps did not even make an attempt to make the bandh a success. He was also unhappy that the TDP leaders did not have a contingency plan ready even as they were aware that they would be house-arrested.

An angry Chandrababu reportedly spoke to several senior leaders and asked them as to why they remained unmoved at such a critical time. He said they should have shown motivational leadership and inspired the cadre.

.It may be recalled that earlier too, the TDP leaders offered only token protests and left the scene the moment the media clicked their photographs. As a result, the protest programmes called by the party fizzled out. Chandrababu did not want this to happen in case of the protests against the vandalism in the party offices. But the senior leaders were lukewarm to the calls given by the party.

TDP, BJP quid pro quo in Badvel?

The TDP must now be ruing not contesting in the Badvel bypoll. It has decided not to contest as it was not confident of a victory. But it put forth the alibi that it was honouring the convention of not putting up a candidate against the kin of an MLA whose death has necessitated the bypoll..

Now in the wake of the recent attacks on the TDP offices and the arrest of party spokesperson Pattabhi on charges of using expletives for a constitutional head, the party rank and fine now feel that their anger and determination could have found an expression in the Badvel bypoll. Now, it’s almost a walkover for the YSRCP.

A section of the party feels that the TDP should now vote for the BJP candidate to show their anger against the YSRC. They say that the TDP workers should silently work for the BJP. They are also arguing that this would be useful to the TDP as this will give a reason for the TDP to approach Union Home Minister Amit Shah. This section feels that support to BJP in Badvel could be used as an effective bargaining chip for the TDP.

TDP support to the BJP in the bypoll and Amit Shah’s support to Chandrababu would be a political quid pro quo.Meanwhile, former Minister Adinaryana Reddy, who was earlier in the TDP, is said to be in touch with the TDP leaders and is said to have asked the TDP to support the BJP in the bypoll.

TDP leader sent to jail for using abusive words against Andhra CM

1

A city court on Thursday sent Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesman K. Pattabhi Ram to judicial custody for 14 days for allegedly using abusive words against Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Ram — arrested on Wednesday night, was produced in Third Additional Metropolitan Court, which remanded him to judicial custody for two weeks.

The opposition party leader was subsequently shifted to Machilipatnam Jail.

After the arrest from his house amid high drama, Ram was taken to Thotlavalluru Police Station.

The TDP leader’s lawyer moved the bail petition but the government’s counsel opposed the same citing several cases booked against him in the past. After hearing the arguments of both sides, the magistrate rejected the bail plea and sent him to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, Ram said he was not beaten up by police during the custody. He, however, denied that he used any abusive word against the chief minister or any other leader and said he was only highlighting the government’s failures.

Ram was arrested from his house by the police on Wednesday night, a day after his remarks triggered a huge backlash from alleged supporters of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) who attacked the TDP’s central office at Mangalagiri in Amaravati and party offices in other parts of the state.

Pattabhi Ram’s house was also attacked by unidentified people on Tuesday.

Ram’s wife Chandra said he was arrested by policemen after breaking open the door. She said if anything happened to him, the government will be responsible.

According to police, the TDP leader was arrested in connection with a case booked against him at Governorpet Police Station. He was booked under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 505 (2) (Statements conducing to public mischief), 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) read with 120B (criminal conspiracy).

Chandrababu Naidu begins protest, seeks Centre’s intervention

1

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday began 36-hour long sit-in at party’s central office at Mangalagiri to protest Tuesday’s attacks on party offices and demanded the Centre’s intervention to save the people of Andhra Pradesh from what he called the drug mafia and the undemocratic and fascist regime.

The leader of opposition reiterated his demand for invoking Article 356, saying Andhra Pradesh in its present situation was a fit case for imposition of President’s rule.

He claimed that the TDP never made such a demand in the past and it was not in the habit of making such demands considering the need to overlook stray mistakes by some individuals. “But, the lapses of the Jaganmohan Reddy Government crossed all limits. The future of the whole State and the country is at stake now,” he said.

The former chief minister began the sit-in to protest Tuesday’s attacks on party offices and leaders by supporters of ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The protest with the title ‘fight against state terrorism’ began 8 a.m. and will continue till 8 p.m. on Friday.

He alleged that Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy was growing impatient over the increasing public resentment against his Government’s atrocities, all round corruption and attacks on all constitutional institutions. Tuesday’s attack on TDP main office was not a sporadic, isolated incident but a culmination of two and half years of lawless, anarchic and oppressive regime, he said.

Addressing the party leaders and cadres, the TDP chief reminded the Centre that the dark activities of the Andhra Pradesh ganja mafia was not limited to the State but spread to Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other States.

Stating that the menace of drugs poses a big threat to the nation, he alleged that cases were being booked against TDP leaders for demanding action against those supplying drugs.

Naidu deplored that the ‘state-sponsored terrorism’ was reaching new heights in the state. “A Member of Parliament became a victim of custodial torture. YSRCP’s own MP Raghu Rama Raju was taken into unlawful custody and beaten up. The Jagan regime made countless attacks on the autonomy of the courts, the Election Commission, opposition parties and general public. Dalit doctor Dr Sudhakar was put to psychological and financial torture till his death for demanding masks.”

Naidu said there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state. He termed the attacks on TDP offices an attack on democracy. He claimed that the attacks were pre-planned and aimed at eliminating the party. He reiterated that he personally called the Director General of Police but he did not respond.

He said the TDP party leader Pattabhi Ram’s house was attacked and ransacked. There were attacks at several places including party offices at Visakhapatnam, Hindupur and Kadapa. He said TDP offices and leaders were targeted.

“They are saying that the language used by Pattabhi Ram was abusive. Are you ready for a debate on the kind of language used by Jagan and his ministers,” he asked the government.

He said though TDP offices and leaders were attacked, police booked cases against them. An intruder into TDP office was caught and handed over to police but a case was booked against TDP leaders.

Stating that TDP pays tributes to policemen on every police commemoration day, Naidu said the police department was getting a bad name because of few officers.

Senior IAS officer’s re-entry unnerves TDP leaders in Kodumur

0

The sudden reappearance of former IAS officer and a diehard Chandrababu acolyte at the recent party meet has raised hackles in the party circles. The IAS officer in question, GV Ramanjaneyulu, was the former commissioner of municipal administration. He contested from Kodumur in Rayalaseema in 2019 and disappeared from the scene altogether after losing the election. His sudden presence in party meets is the talk of the town these days.

Ramanjaneyulu is said to be quite close to Chandrababu Naidu and even enjoyed an extension after his superannuation. In 2014, he tried for a party ticket for his wife. In 2019, he himself resigned from his post and entered the electoral fray from Kodumuru. However, the local leaders such as Akupogu Venkata Swamy and Vishnuvardhan Reddy opposed his entry and did not cooperate with him in the elections. As a result, Ramanjaneyulu lost the elections.

Since his loss, he simply vanished from the scene and was not seen in any party programme for almost two years. Now suddenly he has materialized once again. Now he has a state level responsibility. He has been appointed as the organizing secretary and the incharge for the Human Resources Development in the party.

Now, his sudden re-entry has left leaders iike Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Akupogu Venkata Swamy confused. They have built the party during the last two years and worked hard to rally round the activists. What is their future If Rmanjaneyulu once again wants to contest from Kodumur again? These leaders are said to be worried about their future prospects in the party. As of now, the party is seized off the Pattabhi issue and there is no one to allay their fears.

Has YSRCP walked into Chandrababu Naidu’s trap?

1

On the issue of Pattabhi’s comments, it appears that the YSRCP and the Chief Minister have unknowingly walked into TDP’s trap.  By attacking the TDP headquarters and assaulting the family members of TDP spokesperson Pattabhi, the YSRCP ended up losing sympathy. Now the party is forced to do a lot of explaining.

In fact, it was the YSRCP which started the slanging match. YSRCP motor-mouth minister Kodali Nani used very abusive words for both Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh. When the TDP tried to object, he became even more bellicose. But, clever Chandrababu Naidu kept his cool and gained sympathy. In the whole process, Nani ended up losing support and even his own party found his comments difficult to defend. So, Nani has been silent for quite some time.

Now the TDP has begun upping its ‘abuse quotient’ with Lokesh, Dhulipalla Narendra and other leaders attacking the YSRCP right left and centre. On the issue of the recent drug seizures in Gujarat and their possible link to AP, TDP spokesperson Pattabhi went ballistic. In a recent press conference, he used unprintable words only to excite and incite the YSRCP. The party reacted predictably and its cadre attacked Pattabhi’s house, TDP headquarters and offices across the state in retaliation.

Now, Chandrababu effectively played the victim card and called up Union Home Minister Amit Shah. He also made Pawan Kalyan to speak up against the attacks. Thus the TDP ended up gaining sympathy. Not just that. He and the other TDP leaders were very quick to point an accusing finger at Nani’s diatribes, which were far worse than Pattabhi’s. Thus, Chandrababu achieved the twin objectives of silencing the loud mouths of the YSRCP and gaining public sympathy. Jagan, the master strategist, ended up losing on both counts.
