Sankranthi 2023: Five films in Race
Sankranthi 2023 too is expected to be big like every year. Two veteran Tollywood actors Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna are all set to test their luck during the season with their respective films Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy. Vijay’s Vaarasudu is backed by top producer Dil Raju and the film too will get a good release. But before the potential of Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna, Vijay is not a big star. Everyone predicted a triangular fight between the films and all these films will have to share the screens during the holiday season.
Popular US distributor Radhakrishna Entertainments acquired the Telugu theatrical rights of Ajith’s film Thunivu and the film too will release across the Telugu states. Though the film will not get enough number of screens, Thunivu has to share some of the screens. UV Creations is backing a small film Kalyanam Kamaneeyam and Santosh Shoban played the lead role. The film directed by debutant Anil too is releasing during the Sankranthi season. UV Creations holds a good number of screens in AP and the film too will have to share the screens along with other Sankranthi releases. A more clarity on the exact release dates is expected in a week.
Rs 250 Cr bet on Sankranthi Releases
Two veteran Tollywood actors Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna are testing their luck with their respective films Waltair Veerayya and Veerasimha Reddy for Sankranthi 2023. Though the exact financials are yet to be revealed, Sankranthi season will have a bet of Rs 250 crores in total. Vijay’s Varisu is the other release and the film caught attention as it is produced by Dil Raju. Though Vijay’s Telugu theatrical market is capped at less than Rs 15 crores, Dil Raju has been quoting high prices for Varisu. The theatrical rights of Waltair Veerayya and Veerasimha Reddy are more than Rs 200 crores including all the territories.
As both these films are mass entertainers, the distributors and exhibitors would bet big on both these projects. The word of mouth will be crucial for these films. Vijay’s Varisu will take off to a great start in Tamil and the performance in Telugu depends on the result of the straight Telugu films. Varisu is a family entertainer and is the next film of Vamshi Paidipally after Maharshi and would take the advantage of the family crowds. The total bet on the Sankranthi 2023 releases would touch Rs 250 crores in total.

Yesterday, there were speculations that Varisu will release on January 12th but the makers are yet to lock the final date. The circulated poster is just a fake one. The release dates of Waltair Veerayya and Veerasimha Reddy are finalized but they are not announced. Balayya’s Veerasimha Reddy would be the first release and the film will hit the screens on January 12th. Balakrishna himself fixed the muhurtam and revealed it to the makers.
Megastar’s Waltair Veerayya will release a day after and it will have a wide release on January 13th. Both these biggies will head for release in a gap of a day and the distributors are trying hard to accommodate a maximum number of screens for these films. Dil Raju, the producer of Varisu will lock the release date of the film as per the release date of Ajith’s film Thunivu. For now, the release dates of the Telugu films are finalized and both these films will head for a record release across the Telugu states.
Sankranthi Releases: Over budget for all three Films
Three films Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya, Balakrishna’s Veerasimha Reddy and Vijay’s Varisu are releasing during the Sankranthi holiday season. All the three films are in the final stages of shoot with one month left for release. Vijay who allocates 80 days (maximum) per film has shot for more than 120 days. The patchwork of Varisu is still pending and it is expected to complete before December 10th. Vamshi Paidipally who is known to shoot his films lavishly went overboard when it comes to the final budget. There was a 20 percent increase in the planned budget of Varisu.
Veerasimha Reddy is sure a nightmare for the production house Mythri Movie Makers. Balakrishna who is quite disciplined on the sets has shot for over 140 days for this actioner. Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya too is not completed on the planned budget. The working days crossed 150 and the songs are currently shot in Greece. The budgets of all the three Sankranthi releases went over board. The non-theatrical deals fetched good amounts for all the three films. The theatrical deals (Telugu) for all the Sankranthi releases will be finalized very soon. The release dates of Waltair Veerayya, Veerasimha Reddy and Varisu will be announced soon.
Heroine troubles continue for Balakrishna
Nandamuri Balakrishna is struggling hard to get a leading lady for his films. Boyapati Srinu faced similar troubles during Akhanda and Gopichand Malineni had to sweat out for Veerasimha Reddy. Now Anil Ravipudi is facing similar troubles for NBK108 which is expected to roll this month. Bollywood beauty Sonakshi Sinha was approached and the actress was ready to come on to the board. But the actress quoted Rs 6 crores as remuneration and this did not go well with the makers. The hunt for the leading lady is going on. The team off NBK108 is left with very few options and most of them are completely occupied.
Anil and his team are in plan to lock the leading lady by December so that the actress joins the sets in January. NBK108 is said to be a powerful mass entertainer and Balakrishna’s characterization, performance are the expected highlights. Several top technicians are on board for this prestigious project. Shine Screens are the producers and Thaman scores the music. This untitled film is aimed for post summer 2023 release across the globe.
Veera Simha Reddy’s Jai Balayya: Electrifying Mass Number
Nandamuri Balakrishna is coming up with a pakka commercial entertainer Veera Simha Reddy directed by Gopichand Malineni under the banner of Mythri Movie Makers. The makers of the movie kick-started the audio promotions by releasing a lyrical video of the first song Jai Balayya.
S Thaman who is in superb form has rendered yet another electrifying mass number for Balakrishna. This indeed is one of the best mass numbers in recent times and what’s more, Thaman gives that kick to fans with his composition and mass appearance. He is seen dancing in a white and white getup with many gold chains around his neck.
Ramajogayya Sastry gives rise to Balakrishna’s character with his mass-appealing lyrics, wherein Karrimullah sang the number splendidly. Balakrishna’s get-up is just wow in an all-white costume and his dances are so elegant.
