TDP to hold its Mahanadu in Prakasam district

1

The opposition TDP has finally settled down to hold its annual conclave – Mahanadu – in Prakasam district. The party initially planned to hold the event in Ongole town. But as the government refused to give the mini-stadium for the event, the party had moved to Manduvavaripalem village near Ongole town.

Party chief Chandrababu Naidu had formed several committees to monitor the arrangements and organise events for two days from May 27, marking the birthday of party founder late N T Rama Rao. The party would hold deliberations on the national and regional politics and formulate its strategy to come back to power.

The TDP had been working hard with Chandrababu Naidu touring the state on one side and his son Lokesh moving around on the other. Both the father and the son or rather the president and the general secretary, are in the midst of the people round the clock.

Chandrababu Naidu in his early 70s is not resting his foot with the prime objective of wresting power from the YSR Congress. He is leaving no stone unturned to defeat Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in the next election. In fact, he is uncomfortable to sit in the opposition, though it was not the first time for him to be in the opposition.

He is also getting ready for any sort of sacrifice to forge alliances with other parties. He is in constant touch with Jana Sena, which is currently in alliance with the BJP. Though he is trying to forge an alliance with the BJP, the leaders are unwilling for alliance with the TDP anymore. They feel that Chandrababu Naidu is the most undependable politician.

The party is likely to discuss the alliances for the 2024 election at Mahanadu. The party is also likely to give a call to the non-YSR Congress parties in the state to come together to defeat Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The Mahanadu is likely to come up with statements on the state financial position, the law and order and the failure of Jagan government, besides other issues.

Narayana’s daughters, son-in-law get anticipatory bail

1

The Andhra Pradesh High Court has granted anticipatory bail to two daughters and son-in-law of former minister P. Narayana and some others in the Class 10 question paper leak case.

Narayana’s daughter P. Sharani, P. Sindhura, son-in-law K. Punith and 10 others of the Narayana group of educational institutions got anticipatory bail.

On a house motion petition filed by them, Justice K. Manmadha Rao passed the interim orders, directing the government not to take any hasty action against them. The court adjourned the hearing to May 18.

Narayana, a leader of opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and founder of Narayana Group of institutions, was last week arrested in the case.

A team of Chittoor police had taken him into custody in Hyderabad on May 10. He was produced before a magistrate in Chittoor in the wee hours of May 11. However, the magistrate granted bail to Narayana after agreeing with the contention of his counsel that he resigned from the post of the chairman of Narayana Group in 2014.

Narayana and seven others were arrested in a case registered in Chittoor town in connection with leakage of a question paper of SSC exams on April 27. The police had booked a case after the Telugu question paper was leaked from an examination centre and circulated in a WhatsApp group.

The case was registered on a complaint by the District Educational Officer (DEO) about the circulation of a Telugu language question paper on April 27.

In the wake of Narayana’s arrest, his daughters, son-in-law and others associated with the Narayana group moved the high court, seeking anticipatory bail.

The opposition TDP has condemned Narayana’s arrest and termed it as political vendetta by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government, but the latter defended its action and alleged that the group was involved in several irregularities.

Jana Sena office looks deserted while YCP, TDP offices are crowded

1

Though elections are two years away and there are no signs of AP going for early polls, the offices of the ruling YSR Congress and the opposition TDP are crowded these days. The party leaders and the folks are reaching the party offices in large numbers every day making them crowded.

Ruling party supremo and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is touring the districts and addressing public meetings. He had also activated the rank and file after the cabinet rejig. The party is holding a mass contact programme with MLAs and other elected leaders visiting every house in the state.

On its part, the opposition TDP too had started its mass contact programme, with its chief Chandrababu Naidu touring the districts. Naidu’s son and former minister Nara Lokesh too is on his tours across the state.

While these two parties are busy with one activity or the other, their offices at Mangalagiri are almost crowded with the leaders visiting them day in and day out. The YSR Congress office at Tadepalli and the TDP office at Mangalagiri project as if it is the election season. The aspirants are flocking on the party offices with an eye on the next election.

Surprisingly, the Jana Sena headquarters, which is located a couple of kilometres from the TDP and YCP offices, looks deserted. There is not much activity in the Jana Sena office at Mangalagiri. Party chief Pawan Kalyan is busy with his film shootings and did not visit the party office in the recent past.

Senior leader Nadendl Manohar is also not available to the party ranks at the Mangalagiri office. With the supremo and the number two leader unavailable, the party office wore a deserted look. Quite interestingly, the party’s lone MLA Rapaka Varaparasada Rao never visited the party office after his election.

Though there are a couple of dozens of elected representatives for the party from the local bodies, not any of them visit the party headquarters at Mangalagiri. The office gets activated only when Pawan Kalyan arrives and it has been so long that he had turned up in the recent past.

AP Dy CM controversial comments on SC, STs

1

Andhra Pradesh Dy chief minister Narayana Swami made controversial comments on SC and STs. Details as follows.

Narayana Swami is one of those lucky ministers who got extension in Jagan’s cabinet after the recent reshuffle of ministries by Jagan. He told that , it is because of his honesty he got the ministry yet another time. He then made some controversial comments on SC STs. He told that the youngsters belonging to SC, ST community and affiliating to TDP party are the reason for adulterated cheap liquor in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He told that these guys are intentionally poisoning cheap liquor to defame the government.

However his comments didn’t go well with many. It is natural for political parties to defame other parties. But targeting only Dalits belonging to the other party is something that was not done by politicians earlier. We need to wait and see how Dalit unions respond on this issue.

Naidu says AP should not become another Sri Lanka

0

TDP President and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that like in Sri Lanka, the people of Andhra Pradesh were also being subjected to unprecedented oppression.

Naidu said the Sri Lanka rulers resorted to physical suppression of the people following the total collapse of their country’s economy. In AP also, endless attacks were being perpetrated on the citizens by undermining all institutions and systems.

On the third and final day of ‘Badude Badudu’ tour in Kuppam, the TDP chief addressed party youth activists meeting and road shows. He said his only wish was that the AP State should not slip into lawlessness and disorder like Sri Lanka.

Expressing concern, Naidu said, “My anguish is that Andhra Pradesh should not become another Sri Lanka. Our Government has taken state debt to Rs. 8 Lakh Crores. The people of the State would have to pay this debt for the next 30 to 40 years. This is a big concern for all of us.”

Chandrababu Naidu deplored that the financial standards of the AP people had touched a new low. The YSRCP ‘nava ratnalu’ (nine jewels promises) have turned into ‘nava randhralu’ (nine holes for YCP corruption). Jagan Reddy’s ‘badudu palana’ (unbearable taxes) was breaking the backs of all sections of society.

Naidu demanded that the government explain what happened to the job calendar that it had promised to release every year. The TDP gave Rs. 2,500 unemployment allowance, which was cancelled under the Jagan rule. The Chief Minister should clarify why he had denied this allowance to the youth.

The TDP chief called upon the youth to take the responsibility to rescue the State. Like nowhere else in the country, the petrol and diesel rates were increased in AP. The present rulers had no credibility and no respect for the people. They had changed ‘Gadapa Gadapaku YCP’ to ‘Gadapa Gadapaku Govt’ after seeing severe anti-YCP feelings among the public.

Naidu once again asserted that the farmers should strongly oppose the Government’s move to fix meters on the agricultural motors. The Government was trying to bring pressure on the farmers on the meters issue. Already agriculture was in a deep crisis. Once fitted, the meters would become the noose round the necks of farmers.

Lokesh decries ‘cover-up’ of Proddatur gang-rape

TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh asked why ‘neither gun nor Jagan’ came to rescue when a Dalit girl was gang-raped and impregnated at Proddatur in the Chief Minister’s own native Kadapa district.

Lokesh called it ‘inhuman’ on the part of the police to cover up the molestation cum impregnation case. The woman police wing brought the gang-rape to light and tried to do justice to the victim girl but it all went in vain.

Lokesh demanded the Government to explain why the police officials did not immediately register the case. Instead of making efforts to nab the culprits, they made efforts to hush up the gang-rape. They silently shifted the girl to a private home in violation of the rules.

Lokesh recalled how crores of public money were spent on advertisements in the media to lift up Jagan Reddy image. They campaigned extensively that Jagan would come before the gun to rescue victims of atrocities. But now, neither gun nor Jagan arrived to prevent the Proddatur atrocity.

Lokesh said the offenders had molested and made a teenage girl pregnant. The YSRCP Ministers should answer why they failed to do justice to her. Was it correct on the part of Jagan rule to protect the accused? The Chief Minister had no right to talk about women safety any more.

The TDP MLC said that it had become a habit for the Government and the police to protect the culprits even in the most heinous of atrocities. Victims were being further victimised while the offenders were being protected under Jagan Reddy’s reverse rule.

Lokesh expressed concern that the Government was not taking any corrective measures to rescue women. The gangsters were taking drugs and drinking J-brands of liquor. They were committing non-stop atrocities. There was no safety at all to girls and women who were facing atrocities on a daily basis in some place or other.

The TDP MLC termed it as ironical that the woman home minister was not able to do anything to check the rate of atrocities on women. Jagan Reddy was preferring women as the home ministers but not showing any interest in woman safety.

The CM should realise that atrocities would come down only when deterrent punishment would be given to the culprits. A molestation accused took his own life fearing stringent punishment under the Chandrababu rule.

RS Polls on June 10 in AP, TS

0

The Rajya Sabha elections in the two Telugu states would be held on June 10. The Election Commission would issue notification on May 24.

The EC had announced the schedule for holding biennial elections to the 57 Rajya Sabha seats spread over 15 states. Andhra Pradesh would have an election for four seats while Telangana would have polls for 2 seats.

Suresh Prabhu, Y S Chowdary, T G Venkatesh and V Vijayasai Reddy from Andhra Pradesh, D Srinivas and Capt V Lakshmikanatha Rao from Telangana are retiring on June 21. The election is to fill these vacancies.

In Andhra Pradesh, it is almost clear that the ruling YSR Congress would send its retiring member V Vijayasai Reddy for another term. The YSR Congress would get another three seats now being vacated by the BJP.

Sources say that chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had cleared the name of Beeda Mastan Rao from Nellore for the second vacancy, followed by senior advocate and film producer Niranjan Reddy for the third seat. Sources further say that the chief minister had cleared the candidature of industrialist Gautham Adani’s wife Priti Adani for the fourth vacancy.

The chief minister had tried the candidature of film actor and former union minister K Chiranjeevi for the Rajya Sabha post. However, Chiranjeevi smoothly rejected the offer stating that he is now out of politics and doesn’t want to enter politics once again.

Ex-Minister Narayana arrested by AP police

0

The AP police have arrested former TDP minister P Narayana and his wife Ramadevi in Hyderabad on Tuesday. They are being brought to Andhra Pradesh in their personal vehicle and would be taken to Chittoor.

They were arrested in a case of Class X question paper leakage reported in Chittoor on April 29. The police have already arrested some teachers from the Narayana Group of schools besides some from the government schools. They are accused of taking photos of the question paper from the examination halls and sending them outside using their mobile phones.

After this incident, the government had declared all examination centres in the state as no mobile zones and had directed the teachers and officials not to carry their mobile phones either into the examination halls or the examination centres.

The state government alleged conspiracy by the Narayana Group of Institutions in leaking the question paper after the examination started. Narayana was a minister in the TDP government between 2014 and 2019. He was instrumental as municipal administration minister in land pooling in Amaravati villages for the capital city.

He lost the election from Nellore in 2019 and has been inactive since then. However, with his connections with the opposition TDP, he is accused of conspiring to defame the present YSR Congress government by leaking the question papers.

Win as MLA, Kodali Nani tells Pawan Kalyan

0

Former minister and the YSR Congress senior leader Kodali Nani pooh-poohed Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan’s claims of defeating the YSR Congress in the next election. He discounted the claims of the Jana Sena chief and TDP chief on forming opposition unity.

He asked both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan to form a grand alliance of all opposition parties first. He also sought to advise the Jana Sena chief to win as MLA from any constituency in the state before thinking of defeating the YSR Congress.

The former minister also asked the TDP chief to get his son Lokesh and foster son Pawan Kalyan elected to the Assembly from anywhere in the 175 Assembly constituencies in the state. He said both the son and the foster son have lost the 2019 elections, while Naidu himself saw a tough fight at his Kuppam constituency.

He also advised both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan to get the other opposition parties to win at least one assembly seat each, besides winning Lokesh and Pawan before speaking about defeating the YSR Congress and Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Kodali Nani wanted Chandrababu Naidu to focus on retaining the Kuppam constituency, besides getting his son and the foster son elected. He also advised the two leaders to focus on retaining the 23 Assembly seats that the TDP had won in the 2019 elections.

The YSR Congress leaders said that chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is not looking for any electoral alliance to retain the power. He claimed that the YSR Congress would win even more seats than the 2019 elections.

He ridiculed the TDP and the Jana Sena leaders for forging alliance two years ahead of the elections. He said that statements of Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan show their weakness in the electoral battle.

Is Pawan Kalyan moving close to Naidu?

0

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan looks as if he is moving close to TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. The two leaders have expressed the same opinion on opposition unity for the 2024 elections to defeat the YSR Congress.

There appears unanimity between the two leaders on defeating the YSR Congress for which they are advocating unity among the opposition parties. The TDP chief had even made a promise for greater sacrifice.

Pawan Kalyan had said in Nandyal district on Sunday that he strongly believes that he is ready for opposition unity. He also reiterated that he would work to keep that the anti-government vote is not divided.

The TDP chief and the Jana Sena chief have thus come for a common understanding though they are not allies now. While the TDP is in alliance with the Congress, the Jana Sena is in alliance with the BJP in the state.

Going by these indications, Pawan Kalyan is likely to sever ties with the BJP and have alliance with the TDP before the elections. As the BJP is not ready for any alliance with the TDP, Pawan Kalyan may dump the BJP and go into the TDP’s fold.

Interestingly, both Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan are speaking the same language and making the same statements. The script is almost one and the same and that indicates that both Naidu and Pawan have come together strategically. Time only will tell when they come together physically.

With 4% vote share, Jagan’s YSRCP can ensure smooth run for NDA

Andhra Pradeshs ruling YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) may once again bail out the BJP-led NDA, which appears to be trailing behind the opposition by about 2 per cent votes in the Presidential elections scheduled in July.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) are the two parties which have always come to the rescue of the Narendra Modi-led government whenever it needed the support from outside the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to pass crucial Bills in the Parliament.

Though YSRCP leaders have still not revealed the stand they will take in the Presidential polls, political observers say that it is a foregone conclusion given the political compulsions of Jagan Mohan Reddy and the track record of the party in coming to the rescue of NDA in critical times.

As YSRCP’s value of votes is estimated to be 4 per cent in the electoral college for the Presidential polls, its role is likely to be crucial to ensure victory of the NDA candidate in the event of the opposition parties fielding a joint candidate.

The electoral college comprises members of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and all state assemblies.

Considering its strength of MPs in both the Houses of Parliament and its tally in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly, YSRCP’s vote value is estimated at 43,674, the highest among the parties considered as fence-sitters.

“In the present circumstances, Jagan Mohan Reddy is not compelled to take an anti-BJP stance. He also has the comfort of claiming elections to Constitutional positions must not be politicised’,” said political analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy.

Ever since YSRCP formed the government in Andhra Pradesh in 2019, the party enjoyed friendly relations with the Modi government.

Even in the 2017 elections for thre President and Vice-President, YSRCP had backed NDA candidates. It also supported the Modi government in the Parliament for passing crucial Bills like criminalisation of triple talaq and abrogation of Article 370.

The party also sailed with the NDA government on three controversial farm laws.

Political observers say that at a time when it is not having any problems with the Modi government, there is no reason why it should go against it in the Presidential polls. The cordial relations with the Centre are also helping YSRCP deflect criticism of the state government by BJP’s state leadership.

“YSRCP might not be prepared for a multi-frontal attack from all opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh,” said Raghavendra Reddy.

Since the BJP-led NDA is in a comfortable position after the saffron party’s victory in four out of five state Assemblies recently, YSRCP would not like to create problems for itself by opposing its candidates, as such a move could push the BJP closer to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in the state.

BJP’s central leadership appears to be in no mood to revive their alliance with the TDP, though TDP President N. Chandrababu Naidu appears keen to join hands with the saffron party once again to put up a united fight by the opposition parties against the Jagan Mohan Reddy government in the state.

AP Govt suspends 19 teachers

0

The AP government had placed 19 teachers under suspension for indulging in irregularities in the Class X public examinations in Eluru district. These teachers were identified in two SSC examination centres early this week.

According to the officials of the education department, 14 teachers were suspended for allowing mass copying of the students during the examination. This mass copying was noticed by the flying squad at a centre in the district headquarters town.

In another incident, five teachers were suspended in Mandavalli of Eluru district also for allowing the students to indulge in mass copying.

The state government had already arrested 20 teachers from both private and government schools on the charges of sending question papers through the mobile phones after the examinations commenced. Though there was no scope for answers to come from the outside as the question papers are copied duly after distributing them to the students, the act is carried out intentionally to spread confusion among the students and parents, the government said.

Having noticed this act of some teachers, the government has declared all examination centres as no phone zones and is not allowing even the teachers to carry their mobile phones into the campus. They would have to deposit their mobile phone with the security and take it back only after the examination.

The officials say that despite the government taking strict action, some teachers were indulging in certain irregularities to defame the government.

Will Pawan speak on alliance with TDP on May 8?

1

Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan had given a call to all the opposition parties in AP to forge an alliance and keep the anti-government vote undivided. He made this call at the party’s formation day public meeting held in Mangalagiri last month.

As if it was a response, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu too made a similar call at his Visakhapatnam meeting, the other day. He wanted the entire opposition to fight against the government and defeat the YSR Congress in the next general election.

The TDP chief said he is ready to shoulder leading all the opposition parties with one cause of defeating Jagan. Surprisingly, the number two man in Jana Sena, Nadendla Manohar responded to the TDP chief’s statement on Friday.

Nadendla Manohar told the media persons that Pawan Kalyan would be addressing a public meeting in Kurnool district on May 8. He said that Pawan Kalyan is likely to respond to the statement of the TDP chief for the opposition parties.

While it is not known whether Pawan Kalyan would respond at this point of time or not, what makes everyone in AP is to see whether the BJP would accept the alliance with TDP once again. The BJP is already in alliance with the Jana Sena and is projecting Pawan Kalyan as its chief ministerial candidate.

It is also to be seen if Chandrababu Naidu had severed his ties with the Congress or not. He had forged an alliance with the Congress in the 2019 elections. While he contested together with the Congress in Telangana, he remained silent in Andhra Pradesh elections.

As far as the two Left parties are concerned, it is clear that they would accept an alliance with the TDP if there is no BJP in the alliance. The Left parties are ready to accept the Congress as alliance partner but not the BJP.

HC to hear case on Amaravati on July 12

0

The AP high court had posted the Amaravati case for hearing on July 12. Meanwhile, the court had directed the state government to submit a status report on Amaravati development as directed by the court earlier this year.

The court admitted the contempt petition filed by two farmers, Tati Srinivasa Rao and Done Sambasiva Rao informing the court that its direction to the government on March 3 was not implemented.

The court had on March 3 directed the state government to develop layouts and give plots to the farmers in three months and develop the entire Amaravati as capital in six months. The state government felt that it was impossible to develop 55,000 acres of land into a city in six months.

However, the government had started works in Amaravati in some areas, where 70 per cent of buildings were completed which included the residential quarters for the All India Service officers and the judicial officers.

While taking up the contempt petition by the farmers, the court bench headed by chief justice, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, justice M Satyanarayana Murthy and Justice D V S S Somayajulu wanted the government to respond and file a status report.

When the advocate general told the bench that the government had filed an affidavit seeking more time, the court wanted to know whether the court direction was followed or not. The court said that they are not worried about what people say about the judgment but want to know whether the judgment was honoured or not.

The court wanted the advocate general to submit a status report on their March 3 judgment. They wanted to know if the plots were given to the farmers after developing the layouts. The court also directed the state government to file the status report whether the process to develop Amaravati as a city has started or not.

It is to be seen how the state government would respond and what sort of status report it would submit to the court in the next two months.

AP Ticket Portal: Shock for Multiplex Chains

The government of Andhra Pradesh has been focused on the movie ticket prices and the sale of the tickets in the state. The ticket prices are revised recently after which the exhibition industry is on a recovery mode. The High Court of Andhra Pradesh granted permission to sell the movie tickets by AP Film Development Corporation (APFDC). The Multiplex Association of India filed a petition challenging the GO 142 issued by AP government last year. The GO told that the movie tickets have to be sold only through AP Film Development Corporation.

Most of the multiplex chains in the country have their own portals and platforms for ticket sales or they have been relying on Book My Show or Paytm. The AP High Court dismissed the petition and asked the government to go ahead with the ticket sale through APFDC. The further hearing in this case is pushed to July 12th. The Multiplex Association of India is in plans to approach the higher court soon.

Not PK, but IPAC to work for Jagan!

0

It is clear that the ruling YSR Congress had not signed any agreement with election strategist Prashant Kishore for the next round of elections in Andhra Pradesh. In fact, Prashant Kishore has reliably severed ties with the Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC).

PK made his political debut in Bihar through the Janata Dal and went on to become its vice-president. However, in no time, he broke the relationship and tried to join the Congress at the national level.

PK had given a draft report on the Congress prospects in the country in a bid to become its functionary. However, the Congress leadership did not offer him any position but is understood to have laid several conditions including not to work as strategist to any other party.

While PK is busy with grafting his own political career, the I-PAC team members have decided to continue their work with the parties where they had worked earlier. The teams are continuing with the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, DMK in Tamil Nadu and the YSR Congress in Andhra Pradesh.

Sources say that Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked the IPAC team to work for his party once again with the target of winning 2024 election. The team is coming to AP for an initial study on the party’s prospects. The team members are currently busy taking the feedback from the people on the three years performance of the YSR Congress regime.

YSR Congress supremo and chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy is firm on retaining power in the state and wins greater numbers than the 2019. This would mean that the party is targeting anything between 151 and 160 in the 175-member Assembly.

Though Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked his ministers and the party leaders to target 175 seats, he is credibly aiming to win 160 seats. With the opposition TDP leaving no stone unturned to wrest power in the next election, Jagan Mohan Reddy had to go for the IPAC team once again, the sources say.

It is to be seen how best the IPAC without PK would deliver!

No free power to farmers, it will be cash soon!

0

The AP government is preparing to withdraw the free power scheme to the farmers. Instead, it will pay the subsidy amount directly into the bank accounts of the farmers.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had told the officials to prepare the scheme free power amount to the farmers. The state government had completed the pilot project of fixing meters for the agriculture connections in Srikakulam district.

The scheme was part of the Central government’s programme where the free power to every sector is withdrawn and the subsidy amount is paid to the beneficiary.

The state government found that by fixing meters to all the agriculture connections, the power consumption had come down considerably. The chief minister said that accountability of both the government and the farmers will increase with the meters.

The state government wants to extend the programme to all over the state and fix meters to all the agriculture connections. With this, the farmers would get the bills as per their consumption and they would have to pay it.

The government would reimburse the amount directly into the bank accounts of the farmers. However, the scheme is not framed completely and it is not clear whether the government would pay the bill amount every month or fix some amount in every quarter.

Accused hangs self in Andhra police station

0

A man allegedly committed suicide in a police station in Andhra Pradesh’s Eluru district on Wednesday.

Appa Rao (38), who was arrested in a theft case three days ago, was found hanging in the washroom of Bhimadu police station.

Relatives of the man alleged that he was tortured by police resulting in his death. They demanded an impartial probe into the incident.

Police shifted the body to government hospital at Eluru for autopsy.

The man was picked up by police in connection with a chain snatching case.

Police said the accused resorted to the extreme step by hanging himself in the washroom.

This is the second case of custodial death in Andhra Pradesh this year.

A 42-year-old man had allegedly committed suicide in Nellimarla police station in Vizianagaram district in February.

Police had claimed that the habitual property offender killed self by hanging due to family problems.

However, the deceased’s family had alleged that torture in police custody led to his death.

Human Rights Forum (HRF) had demanded judicial probe into the incident.

Authorities had ordered magisterial inquiry and suspended a sub-inspector and constable for negligence.

Will Lokesh stay away from any yatra?

0

The TDP leadership had almost made up its mind to launch a mass contact programme for party chief N Chandrababu Naidu. The programme is likely to start in August and the schedule is to be decided during Mahanadu to be held in the last week of May.

In all probability, Chandrababu Naidu would undertake a bus yatra across the state. He is planning to cover every revenue mandal in every Assembly segment in the next two years. The back of the TDP is preparing a list of the failures of the YSR Congress government in the last three years to highlight them during Naidu’s bus yatra.

The strategic team of the party, which sits in the NTR Bhavan in Hyderabad, is also busy preparing route map and the issues to be raised during the public meetings of the party chief.

While the party leadership is busy with the preparatory work for Naidu’s bus yatra, the young teams of the party are encouraging their general secretary Nara Lokesh to undertake a parallel programme to be in the midst of people.

Initially there was a proposal for Lokesh to start padayatra but it is said that majority of the party leaders are in favour of cycle yatra. According to the initial plans, Lokesh would go around the state with about 50 cycles with him.

However, there is another argument that the two simultaneous yatras would divert the attention of the media and the people as well. Lokesh yatra would take a portion of media attention and that would dilute the seriousness of Chandrababu Naidu’s bus yatra.

The senior leaders advise Lokesh to stay back as Chandrababu Naidu would go around in the bus yatra. They want the media and the peoples’ focus to remain with Chandrababu Naidu so as to counter the ruling YSR Congress campaign and strategy.

However, sources say that Lokesh is unwilling to stay away while his father goes around. Lokesh and his coterie want the young leader to play a key role in the 2024 elections to be close to the people. It is to be seen whether Lokesh would stay silent or would take up a simultaneous programme along with his father.

Naidu says there is no law and order in AP

TDP chief and leader of opposition in AP Assembly N Chandrababu Naidu said that there was no law and order in the state. He alleged that the YSR Congress government had completely failed in protecting people and maintaining law and order in the state.

The TDP chief condemned the rape attempt on a woman in Repalle railway station of Bapatla mandal during late hours on Saturday. He said that the government had not gained any control over the state police.

He alleged that the police were taking things easy and not caring for the lives of the people. He said the State has turned into ‘Narakaandhra Pradesh’ (hell state) under the unjust and oppressive rule of Jagan Reddy.

The TDP chief deplored that in April alone, over 31 attacks and atrocities on women had taken place. Over 26 farmers committed suicides last month alone. The youth were migrating to other States due to lack of industries and employment.

Naidu asserted that the atrocities and attacks happening on a daily basis were causing great agony to one and all. The victimisation of women was particularly alarming. The conditions of farmers were worsening with each passing day. Due to a debt trap, over 26 farmers ended their lives. Agriculture was caught in a severe crisis.

Chandrababu Naidu expressed doubt whether the agriculture department was in existence. Though the farmers were committing suicides, the Government was not bothering to create any confidence. The Government’s inefficiency has caused a deeper crisis in the employment sector.

The TDP chief said many youth and people were going to other States for work and job opportunities. The TDP was setting up two committees on atrocities on women and farmers suicides. Based on the recommendations of these committees, the party would plan its future programmes.

The TDP leaders, who spoke on the occasion, condemned the ruling YSRCP leaders’ attack on the house of TDP leader Kanisetti Nagulu at Dachepali in Palnadu district. They also decried the attack on TDP leader Chalapati Naidu during the milk society election nominations at Srikalahasti in Chittoor district. The people were waiting for their chance to teach a strong lesson to the YCP for its mindless attacks on rivals.

The TDP leaders also condemned the attack by the YCP leaders and the police SI on the son of a handicapped woman at Sanjeevarayapalli in Sri Satya Sai district. The victim was attacked when he raised his voice against the stoppage of pension to his mother. Stringent action should be taken against the YCP leaders and SI for attacking Venu.
