Vizag railway station shut, high alert at Guntur

0

Railway authorities on Saturday closed the Visakhapatnam railway station and beefed up security at all other major stations in Andhra Pradesh as a precautionary measure to prevent protests against the Central government’s Agnipath military recruitment scheme.

Following intelligence alerts about army aspirants planning massive protests, authorities have shut down the station and stopped the trains at 7 a.m.

Officials said the station will remain closed till noon.

Passengers were allowed into the station till 7 a.m. after thorough checking. Later, the authorities declared the station will remain closed for all.

All trains coming from Vijayawada were being stopped or diverted at the Duvvada railway station on the outskirts. Trains coming from Howrah were being stopped or diverted at Kothavalasa.

Meanwhile, a high alert was sounded at the Guntur railway station following reports that youth aspiring to join the army are planning a huge protest.

Authorities beefed up the security and were allowing passengers to enter the premises only after checking their tickets.

At least 20 youths who were heading towards the Guntur station were arrested by police at Kothapet.

The alert was sounded in view of reports messages were being circulated on WhatsApp for the planned protest at Guntur station.

Security was also beefed up at Vijayawada, Kurnool, Tirupati and other major railway stations in Andhra Pradesh as a precautionary measure in the wake of violent protests at the Secunderabad railway station on Friday.

Large scale violence rocked Secunderabad station as hundreds of youth went on a rampage, setting afire trains, goods and vandalizing the station.

One person was killed and four others were injured when the railway police opened fire to control the situation.

After the protest lasting for more than nine hours, police arrested the youth.

Train services resumed late Friday.

AP senior IPS officer takes charge

0

Senior IPS officer A B Venkateswara Rao took charge as commissioner of printing and stationery in Vijayawada on Friday. He visited the office of the commissioner at Mthyalampadu printing press and assumed charge.

Rao was under suspension for two years after Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy took over the government. The government suspended him on charges of corruption and misuse of power in purchase of digital equipment for the state intelligence wing during the TDP regime. He was the head of the State Intelligence wing during the TDP regime.

The IPS officer was close to the then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and is accused of playing a key role in the defection of 23 MLAs from the YSR Congress to the ruling TDP during 2017-18. He is also accused of threatening some of the YSR Congress legislators those days to support the TDP.

In this background, the YSR Congress government suspended him in February 2020 making corruption charges against him. He challenged the suspension in High Court, which gave him orders in his favour. Following this the state government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court which directed the state government to lift the suspension as it cannot be continued beyond two years.

The IPS officer submitted the Supreme Court order to Chief Secretary Dr Sameer Sharma and requested him to issue orders withdrawing suspension. He made two representations to the chief secretary following which the government issued fresh orders withdrawing his suspension. He was then asked to report to duty in the General Administration Department.

As Venkateswara Rao reported in the GAD, the government finally issued orders posting him as the commissioner of printing and stationary.

AP ties up with BYJU’s for Govt school students

1

Andhra Pradesh government has signed an MoU with BYJU’S, an ed-tech company to provide quality-oriented content for the government school students from 4th to 10th standard on Thursday. Further, the government provides Tabs for the 8th standard students at a cost of Rs 500 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “It will transform the lives of many poor children. The project is about hand holding the government school children so that they pass out 10th and 12th CBSE exams with flying colors. It is the dream for all of us, and the partnership would strengthen it greatly.”

He added that the visual presentation and content enhancement would come through starting from 4th to 10th class at government schools, and it would be a game changer.

“Content available to private school children and those subscribed to the quality content would cost around 20 to 25 thousand per annum. Now it will be available to government school students for free. Further, the government will also give tabs so that digital experience and digital knowledge is available to the children,” said the Chief Minister. The teachers would also be given proper orientation so that they can also do their part in a better way.

Byju Raveendran, CEO of BYJU’S said, “Our meeting happened a few days ago, and now we are signing MoU. The Andhra Pradesh government is moving faster than a start-up. It is commendable and unbelievable for a government to move at this phase. I am excited about the opportunity given to us. With this initiative the government school students get the same access to quality education, which their counterparts in private school are having.”

Yes, BJP is strong in AP, it has all 25 MPs support!

1

Is the BJP really strong in Andhra Pradesh, as claimed by former MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar!? Arun Kumar, who met Telangana chief minister KCR on Sunday, told the media persons that BJP is strong and comfortable in AP.

What he said was that all the 25 MPs elected either from the ruling YSR Congress or the opposition TDP would support BJP. No other state has this arrangement to the advantage of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The ruling YSR Congress has 21 MPs who would also be supporting the BJP in every crucial decision both in the Parliament and outside in the last three years. They would be supporting the BJP in the Presidential election too. Its rebel MP, K Raghurama Krishnam Raju, is already with the BJP and thus BJP would get 22 MP votes.

The opposition TDP has three MPs, who are also expected to back the BJP in the Presidential election, giving total 25 MPs support to the BJP, though none of them is elected from the BJP. Thus, the BJP gets all the MPs support without winning a single MP seat.

Though TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu rallied against BJP and Narendra Modi before the 2019 general elections, he is maintaining absolute silence as far as national politics are concerned. He did not make any statement in the last three years that would refer to or reflect national politics.

Andhra to link state public health care scheme payouts to DBT to patients

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the health department to bring Arogyasri public health care scheme benefits under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The move will allow the billed amount to be disbursed directly to the patient and to the hospital on auto-debit mode with their consent.

Chairing a health department review meeting on Monday, the Chief Minister said that DBT would improve accountability and further streamline the system leaving no loopholes.

He also instructed the officials to bring in parity while giving the subsidy amount for postpartum women: “Rs 5,000 per mother for both natural and c-section delivery in the state,” said the Chief Minister.

Health department officials said that the state’s ‘Arogyasri’ scheme covers 32 specialty treatments which is more than the Central government’s health insurance ‘Ayushman Bharat’ that covers 25 specialty procedures. The Chief Minister mooted increasing the procedures covered under Arogyasri, including the specialty treatments.

Apart from the Central government funded 104 and 108 services, the state government has been spending around Rs 3600 crore per year to improve the health sector, which includes Arogyasri, Arogya Asara, and EHS.

Health department officials informed the Chief Minister that five prioritised teaching medical colleges-cum-hospitals: Vizianagaram, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Machilipatnam, and Nandyal would open for admissions from the 2023 academic year subject to regulatory applications obtaining the necessary clearances.

TDP leaders under house arrest in AP

1

The state police have kept TDP leaders under house arrest across the coastal districts on Monday. The police also did not allow the TDP leaders to conduct Chalo Kantheru programme in support of the party activists who were allegedly attacked by the ruling YSR Congress party.

The TDP leaders alleged that their party activists, Karlapudi Venkayamma and her son were attacked by the YSR Congress leaders in the village the other day. Though the TDP activists are said to be safe, the party had given the Chalo Kantheru programme.

However, the police kept the senior leaders of the TDP under house arrest in Guntur, Bapatla, Krishna, NTR and Eluru districts as a precautionary measure. The party leaders in other districts across the state were also kept under house arrest, when they tried to lead the party workers from their respective districts to join the Chalo Kantjeru programme.

TDP former ministers Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, Nakka Ananda Babu, former MLAs Tenali Sravan Kumar and Tangirala Sowmya accused the government of targeting the opposition party leaders and the cadre. They said that the Government had killed hundreds of the TDP activists and arrested dozens of the party leaders in the last three years.

The former ministers criticised the government and the ruling party for the alleged attack on the TDP activists in Kantheru village of Guntur district. They also blamed the police for acting on the political agenda of the ruling YSR Congress.

The TDP leaders asked the police to arrest all those who attacked the TDP activists in Kantheru village. They also sought protection for the TDP activists across the state and stopped the political witch-hunt by the ruling party in the state.

Jagan to drop 65 sitting MLAs for 2024 elections?

Chief Minister and the YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is understood to have made up his mind to drop 65 sitting MLAs in the 2024 general elections. He is said to have prepared the list and is sending feelers to them in advance.

Jagan Mohan Reddy told the Ministers and the party district unit presidents the other day that he had the information about every MLA, particularly with reference to the door to door campaign launched by the party on May 11.

He said seven MLAs have not participated in the programme even for a single day, while 65 MLAs have participated for just 10 days. Out of the 150 MLAs, less than 10 MLAs have participated in the programme for 20 days.

When he presented these statistics at the meeting, the party district unit presidents were shocked and had no answer, except to remain silent with their heads down.

Jagan Mohan Reddy told them that this door to door campaign would continue for next eight months and said that he would watch every MLA for six months only. He said he would replace the non-performing MLAs after six months and the new faces would take over those constituencies.

The party district unit chiefs were asked to keep an eye on the MLAs, while the regional coordinators were asked to focus on the constituencies represented by the TDP MLAs. Out of the 23 TDP MLAs, four have already defected leaving 19 constituencies to be focused.

Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy is focusing on the Kuppam constituency represented by Chandrababu Naidu. The regional coordinators were asked to focus on the remaining 18 Assembly constituencies.

But, the TDP after the success of the Mahanadu, is growing strong with every leader getting into action. It is not going to be as easy to defeat the TDP as Jagan says.

Finish TDP in 2024 elections, Jagan tells his party leaders

2

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had asked the rank and file of the party to target and win all the 175 Assembly seats in the 2024 general elections. Jagan held a crucial meeting with the ministers, party district unit presidents and the coordinators at Tadepalli on Wednesday.

He reviewed the party’s Gadapa Gadapaku programme which was held last month. He took some of the MLAs to task for not taking active part in the programme. He wondered how the MLAs wanted to win the next election without meeting the people.

Jagan Mohan Reddy told them that he would drop more than 50 MLAs in the next elections and bring new faces. He said the YSR Congress had won the Kuppam municipality and it was not difficult for the party to win the Kuppam Assembly. If the party could win Kuppam, it could win all the other 174 Assembly seats as well, Jagan told the leaders.

The chief minister wanted every leader of the party to stay with the people for the next one-and-a-half years. He asked them to keep interacting with the people, take feedback and explain the government programmes including the cash benefit programmes.

He said that every vote is important to win the election. He also emphasised that winning the 2024 election was crucial for the party and also for every leader in the party. He had asked them to finish the TDP in the 2024 elections.

Once the TDP is finished, it would be easy for the YSR Congress to retain power in the state in the subsequent elections, he told the legislators and asked them to be prepared.

Jagan firm on not developing Amaravati as capital!

2

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has not changed his plans on three capitals. He is not ready to develop Amaravati as the capital of the state even though the high court had given a direction.

It was more than three months that the high court had directed the state to develop Amaravati layouts and hand over the plots to the farmers in return to their lands given in land pooling scheme. The state government had filed an affidavit in the court seeking more time to develop the layouts as provision of infrastructure would take a lot of time.

In tune with the affidavit, the state government had once again filed a second affidavit in the court stating that it would require at least five years to provide basic infrastructure in Amaravati. The affidavit says that the basic infrastructure would mean provision of roads, drains, drinking water, electricity and greenery.

Besides this, the officials also said that some of the lands given by the farmers to the government in pooling are in legal disputes over boundaries and clear titles. The officials say that in some cases, the farmers have not yet registered their lands with the government.

Similarly, several farmers have also not come forward to register the plots offered by the government in return to their lands. Though the officials have sent letters to the farmers asking them to register their plots, they were not coming forward, the government said in the fresh affidavit.

Keeping all these factors into consideration, the state government had requested the high court to change the time limit given to the government for the development of Amaravati as capital city. It wanted the court to give at least five years to complete the process.

All this would mean that the Jagan Mohan Reddy government is unwilling to develop Amaravati as capital and is firm on its three capitals proposal. The chief minister is bent on shifting to Visakhapatnam and making it the capital of the state.

There is no national party except BJP: Nadda

0

BJP president J.P. Nadda on Monday claimed that there is no national party left in the country except BJP.

He told party workers at a meeting here that BJP’s fight is no longer with any national party in the country. “If there is a national party, it is the BJP. We are fighting against family rule,” he said listing out the parties in various states.

Addressing heads of shakti kendras and workers here, Nadda described Shiv Sena as a party of father and son. He said Jagan Mohan Reddy led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) both are dynastic parties. He also remarked that the Indian National Congress has been reduced to a brother-sister party.

Nadda claimed that Narendra Modi has changed polity and political culture of the country by eliminating family centric, caste and community based politics, appeasement and corruption.

Stating that Andhra Pradesh has a special place for BJP, he recalled that out of two MPs that BJP once had from the entire country, the state had sent one MP. He called upon party workers to strengthen the organization in the state.

He said out of 10,000 Shakti kendras in the state, appointments have been made for more than 6,000 kendrs while appointments will be made in remaining kendras soon. He pointed out 4-5 booths come under each shakti kendr and there are 10.40 lakh booths in the country.

Stating that there are 46,00 booths in Andhra Pradesh, he urged their heads to reach to all booths, hold meetings with workers and bring new workers to the party fold. He called for enrolling members from all sections of the society including Dalits, tribals and minorities.

He urged kendra heads to identify beneficiaries of central government schemes at the booth level. “Find out who are getting food grains under PM Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojna and what change it has brought in their life. Similarly identify beneficiaries of PM Awas Yojana, find out if they have received houses and what change it has brought in their life,” he said.

He claimed that Arogyasri scheme being implemented in Andhra Pradesh is not the scheme of the state government but it is the central government’s scheme.

“Ayushman Bharat has been changed as Arogyasri by Jagan Mohan Reddy. It’s not Jagan’s scheme, it is Narendra Modi’s scheme,” he said.

Nadda asked BJP workers to explain to people that if covered under Ayushman Bharat they can get medical treatment in any other state in the country to the tune of Rs 5 lakh a year.

He also asked them to arrange booth level meetings on the last Sunday of every month to listen to Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Mann ki baat’ programme. “All workers should gather and listen to Mann ki baat, discuss and eat together by exchanging food carried from their houses,” he said.

Nadda also asked party workers to hoist BJP flag on every house, go door to door for mass contact, arrange speakers to address people explaining the government schemes. He advised them to meet five new people every day and invite them to join the party.

AP opens floodgates for employees’ transfer

0

The state government had cleared orders for general transfers of the government employees in Andhra Pradesh. There has been a ban on the general transfers in the state for several years.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had signed the proposal to initiate general transfers of the government employees in every department. The officials are likely to issue orders in a day or two. The entire process of transfers has to be completed by June 17.

The employees have been asking for the relaxation of general transfers in the state. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu did not give relaxation during his tenure between 2014 and 2019. However, he had given several incentives and relaxations to the employees as the capital was shifted from Hyderabad to Vijayawada.

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is facing severe opposition from the government employees. No section of the government employees is happy with the present government and it is clear the way the employees are openly criticising the government.

According to an understanding, the employees have been openly criticising the government and they are not ready to support the YSR Congress in the next election. The secretariat employees, the staff of the heads of departments, the employees of various corporations including APSRTC and above all the teachers are not happy with the government. The teachers and the RTC employees are vociferous in criticising the government.

Given the mood of the government employees, it looks like the days are tough for chief minister Jagan Mohan Reddy and his YSR Congress. Perhaps this is what seems to have made Jagan Mohan Reddy to give relaxation on the general transfers.

Besides the employees, even the beneficiaries of various schemes are not happy, surprisingly. Several MLAs have negative feedback from the people. While Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to retain the power in the 2024 elections, the mood is not in his favour as of now, which is also said to be the reason for the government to take a call on the transfers.

BJP steps up its plans for Andhra Pradesh

0

The BJP seems to have stepped up its plans for Andhra Pradesh. The party, which is eying on making its presence in the state, has lined up a series of programmes with the top leaders including party president J P Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the state.

Nadda is addressing the party workers in Vijayawada today. He would also interact with a select group of intellectuals, professionals in a hotel. Later, he would interact with the party top leaders. He is spending the whole day in the city.

The party leadership had also lined up a series of programmes across the state with some leader or the other coming from Delhi. Even the Central ministers are invited to address the party workers at every meeting.

The party had planned the visit of Central ministers to every city in the state. They have so far covered Visakhapatnam, Rajamahendravaram, Ananthapur and Vijayawada. At every visit of every minister, the party organises internal and informal meetings with the professionals like doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers and others.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Bhimavaram in West Godavari district on July 4. The Prime Minister would participate in the Alluri Sitaramaraju birth anniversary celebrations in the town and address a public meeting.

The party has been holding one programme or the other marking the eighth anniversary of Narendra Modi as Prime Minister. Interestingly, the BJP is targeting the TDP leaders to join the party as they organise events in one district or the other.

While TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan are planning for alliance, the BJP is focusing on luring the TDP leaders to weaken Chandrababu Naidu. It is to be seen how far the BJP plans will help the party to prove its presence in the state.

Naidu urges DGP to act on Macherla murders

1

TDP supremo and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday urged the DGP of AP to take stringent action against the police for ‘snatching away’ the dead body of slain TDP activist Kancharla Jallaiah in Palnadu district.

In a letter to the DGP, Chandrababu Naidu said the police have also forcibly taken Jallaiah’s family members and relatives in buses away from their native village. Also, the TDP leaders were arrested and not allowed to pay commiserate visits to the victim’s family. Naidu marked copies of his letter to the Palnadu District Collector and SP as well.

The TDP chief stressed the need for constituting a ‘special court’ to probe all the 5 murders including that of Jallaiah in Macherla assembly constituency. All these killings took place in the past three years. Four of them were BC Yadavas. The culprits should be awarded ‘capital punishment’.

Expressing serious concern, Naidu told the DGP that the ruling YSRCP goons have brutally attacked and murdered Jallaiah, belonging to BC-Yadav community on June 3, 2022 in broad daylight. Immediately after the post-mortem, the police had snatched away the mortal remains of Jallaiah and took to Ravulapuram village in Bollapalli mandal, Palnadu district.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the police have forced the family members and relatives of Jallaiah into buses and transported them to Ravulapuram village. Meanwhile, the police across Palnadu and Guntur districts had either placed TDP leaders under house arrest or prevented them from paying commiserate visits to the family of Jallaiah.

Decrying the Government’s attitude, Naidu said all human values have been grossly violated by the police. The TDP leaders were prevented from paying their last respects to the mortal remains of Jallaiah. Had the police acted fairly without conniving with the ruling YSRCP suspects, Jalaiah murder would not have happened.

The TDP chief said that the police were hell bent upon not only supporting the ruling YSRCP goons, but they were also attempting to cover up the murder through their sinister acts. Since June 2019, 5 BC activists were murdered in Macherla assembly constituency alone. Of them, 4 victims belong to the BC-Yadav community.

Chandrababu Naidu said apparently, the ruling YSRCP in connivance with the police was trying to eliminate the supporters of TDP through terrorising people with series of murders. In this backdrop, it is important to ensure peaceful conduct of the funeral ceremony of Jallaiah in a manner befitting him by allowing his family members, relatives, TDP leaders and his supporters to attend the last rites.

Naidu demanded the special court to inquire into the ‘inhuman and barbaric’ murders of BCs in bloodshed unleashed by the ruling YSRCP goons in Macherla assembly segment. There was an immediate need to protect the constitution guaranteed fundamental rights of people in general and BCs in particular in the Macherla assembly segment.

TDP trolls Pawan Kalyan’s statements on alliance

1

Surprisingly, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan is being trolled in the social media by the TDP ranks. The TDP activists have taken the Jana Sena chief to task for his offers of alliance with the TDP in the 2024 general elections.

It was the other day that Pawan Kalyan made quite interesting comments on the next Assembly elections and the options before the Jana Sena to defeat the YSR Congress Party. While his agenda was to defeat Jagan Mohan Reddy in the next elections, the Jana Sena chief said that they have three options before them.

The first option was to go to the elections in alliance with the BJP and form the government. The second option was to rope in TDP for alliance with the BJP and Jana Sena and form the government. The third option was to form the Jana Sena government.

He also said that for an alliance, there should be some sacrifices among the political parties. He said he had sacrificed in 2014 and 2019 and indirectly wanted the TDP to sacrifice this time.

However, the TDP activists have been trolling him in the social media giving him the fourth option that he should close the party and go back to the film shootings.

Some other TDP activists are asking Pawan Kalyan whether he has won any election or whether he is sure of winning at least four MLA seats.

“What is your strength among the voters? Can you win at least one seat before asking others for sacrifice?’ the TDP leaders ask criticising the Jana Sena chief on his alliance talks.

Interestingly, it is the TDP leaders and activists who have been targeting Pawan Kalyan more than the YSR Congress leaders this time!

Andhra postpones declaration of SSC results

0

School education authorities in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday postponed declaration of results of class 10 due to a technical problem.

The Board of Secondary Education postponed the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination.

Students who have been eagerly waiting for the results were disappointed due to postponement at the last minute. Officials said the results would be declared at 11 a.m. on Monday.

The results were scheduled to be announced at 11 a.m. on Saturday by Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana. The officials came late to the press conference and it was later announced that the results will be declared on Monday.

Officials attributed the postponement to technical reasons but did not elaborate. Lack of coordination between the office of education minister and Board authorities has reportedly led to the postponement.

More than six lakh children and their parents across the state were waiting for the result.

A total of 6,21,799 students appeared for the exams held at 3,776 centres across the state last month.

The 10th class exams were conducted after a gap of two years. The exams could not be conducted in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 pandemic and all students were promoted to the next class.

However, some incidents of paper leak and malpractices were reported during the exams. More than two dozen people, including headmasters of government and private-run schools and other employees were arrested.

Chittoor district police had also arrested former minister and founder of Narayana group of institutions P. Narayana in connection with one of the cases of paper leak in which some teachers and employees of a school run by the group were booked. A court, however, ordered Narayana’s release as it was found that he was no longer involved in day to day management of the group.

Will Jagan back the NDA presidential candidate?

Has YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy made up his mind to support the presidential candidate of the ruling BJP-led NDA? If one goes by the previous election in 2017, the answer is yes as Jagan Mohan Reddy backed the NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind in those elections, despite his rival Chandrababu Naidu being part of the NDA in those days.

The Presidential election is scheduled to be held sometime in July this year. The ruling NDA has 5,30,690 votes against the required 5,49,452 votes. The total electoral college constitutes the members of the both Houses of Parliament and the State Assemblies.

Though the Congress-led UPA has just 2,56,756 votes and is nowhere near to victory, the NDA is running short of 18,762 votes to have a comfortable victory for its candidate. The neutral parties, which are not part of either NDA or the UPA have 2,94,395 votes and placed in a better position than the Congress-led UPA.

Interestingly, the YSR Congress has 43,674 votes with its 28 MPs and 151 MLAs put together. This accounts for 4 per cent of the total electorate of the Presidential election. The NDA is running short of 2 percent of votes, while the YSR Congress has 4 percent of votes on its hand.

The NDA, without the YSR Congress has 49 per cent votes as against 51 per cent of votes required for the election of its candidate with simple majority. The UPA has 24.02 per cent, while others have 26.98 per cent votes. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSR Congress has 4 per cent votes from this 26.98 per cent, which would give a comfortable victory to the NDA candidate.

It is in this background Jagan Mohan Reddy is holding a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi this evening. He is scheduled to meet Modi at 4.30 in the evening where the Prime Minister is expected to seek Jagan Mohan Reddy’s support.

The Chief Minister said anyone who were asked for bribe from anyone and anywhere including Collector’s office, RDO’s office, Sub-Registrar’s office, Mandal level office, Police Station, Village/Ward Secretariats, Volunteers, should download ACB 14400 app and record the conversation through audio or video and this would reach Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). He added that ACB would directly report to the Chief Minister’s Office.

A reference number would be sent to the registered mobile number once the complaint is lodged. An IOS version of the app would be released soon.

During the Spandana video conference held with district Collectors and Superintendents of Police at his camp office here on Wednesday, the Chief Minister said there should be no scope for corruption in the state. He said the government has taken many initiatives in this regard.

He said it is the responsibility of everyone to deliver corruption free governance and added that stringent action would be taken against anyone who resorts to corruption.

Jana Sena intensifies its activities in AP, to hold meet on June 4

0

The Jana Sena has intensified its activities in Andhra Pradesh ahead of the 2024 general elections. The party senior leader K Naga Babu is currently visiting north Andhra region and meeting the party workers.

His visit to Visakhapatnam has given a new lease of life to the party rank and file in north Andhra who have taken part in large numbers in Naga Babu’s visit.

Meanwhile, Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan had scheduled an extended meeting of the party top leaders on June 4. The meeting would be held at the party state headquarters at Mangalagiri on the day.

Besides Pawan Kalyan, party senior leaders Nadendla Manohar, Naga Babu and others including the party district unit presidents would attend the meeting. The meeting is likely to take a call on the increasing violence in the state, the government imposing restrictions on the Jana Sena activists, police booking cases against the Jana Sena leaders, besides other issues.

Pawan Kalyan is now in two minds over his party’s alliance for the 2024 general elections. He is bent on defeating the ruling YSR Congress Party and had given a call for the unity of the oppositions to keep the anti-government vote undivided.

However, the TDP remained silent on the issue at its recent Mahanadu held in Ongole. TDP did not make even a passing reference to the alliance call given by Pawan Kalyan which worries the Jana Sena chief now.

He wanted to break the alliance with the BJP to go with the TDP. At one point, he had even said that he would convince the BJP leadership for alliance with the TDP. If the BJP refuses to restore ties with the TDP, Pawan Kalyan wants to break his alliance with the BJP and go with the TDP.

However, with the TDP remaining silent on the issue, it is to be seen how Pawan Kalyan is going to plan his future. It is likely that he would make reference to the alliance at this June 4 meeting.

Is Jagan favours contest in Athmakuru?

1

The by-election to the Athmakuru Assembly seat in Nellore district is scheduled to be held on June 23. It is clear that the by-election is all set to be one-sided with the ruling YSR Congress winning the seat without much difficulty.

The by-election was necessitated by the sudden death of sitting MLA and minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy in February this year. The ruling YSR Congress has honoured the decision of the Mekapati family which selected Goutham Reddy’s brother Vikram Reddy to contest the election.

The TDP is likely to keep away from the contest and the ruling party has nominated the family member of the deceased MLA. It was an unwritten agreement among the political parties in Andhra Pradesh not to contest the by-election if the ticket is given to the family members of the deceased legislator.

The BJP too is yet to take a call on contesting the seat. The Jana Sena is in alliance with the BJP and may not join the contest here. The Jana Sena did not support the BJP’s candidate in Badvel by-election last year. The party might follow the same strategy in Athmakuru Assembly seat too.

Though there are two candidates from the two registered parties, it is not known yet whether they would continue in the fray or withdraw the nominations once the major political parties make their stand clear.

However, sources say that chief minister and the ruling party chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is in favour of a contest here. The YSR Congress had completed three years in office by May 30 and Jagan Mohan Reddy wants to test the peoples’ pulse with this by-election. The chief minister is said to be in favour of the contest to know his party’s position among the voters after three years.

It is to be seen if there would be a contest with the TDP or the BJP fielding their candidates or leave it either a unanimous election or a simple contest with a couple of the candidates in the race.

Four of YCP RS nominees to be elected unanimous

0

Four nominees of the ruling YSR Congress from AP for the Rajya Sabha are likely to be elected unanimously. All the four members, V Vijayasai Reddy, S Niranjan Reddy, Beeda Masthan Rao and R Krishnaiah have filed their nominations.

Krishnaiah, Niranjan Reddy and Masthan Rao have filed second set of nomination papers on Tuesday, the last day of filing nominations. As there were no other nominations, the Election Commission is likely to declare the four candidates elected unopposed.

The election is required as four members, V Vijayasai Reddy of the YSR Congress, Suresh Prabhu, Y S Chowdary and T G Venkatesh from the BJP are scheduled to retire on June 21, 2022. While Suresh Prabhu was elected as BJP candidate, Y S Chowdary and T G Venkatesh were elected as TDP candidates. These two members along with C M Ramesh have defected from the TDP to the BJP after the 2019 elections.

C M Ramesh of the BJP and Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar of the TDP are scheduled to retire on April 2, 2024. These two seats too are likely to be won by the ruling YSR Congress.

With the election of the four members, the YSR Congress Party’s strength in the Rajya Sabha would go to 9 from the present 6. The YSR Congress would emerge as the fifth largest party in Rajya Sabha, after the BJP, Congress, Trinamool Congress and the DMK.

Once the YSR Congress wins the remaining two seats in March 2024, its strength would go up to 11, winning all the seats in Rajya Sabha. Perhaps this would be the first time for a regional party to win all the Rajya Sabha seats of the state. The opposition TDP, which was once the main opposition party in Lok Sabha, and had been present in Rajya Sabha since its beginning, will lose its presence in the Upper House in 2024.
