NDA Presidential candidate to visit AP on July 12

0

NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Andhra Pradesh on July 12, Tuesday. She is scheduled to arrive at the Gannavaram airport by noon from New Delhi. Her visit to seek the support of the YSR Congress Party in the election.

She would be meeting the ruling YSR Congress MLAs and MPs at a private function hall in Mangalagiri in the afternoon. She would then visit Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s camp office at Tadepalli in the evening. Jagan Mohan Reddy is hosting high tea in honour of Murmu at the camp office.

The YSR Congress had already extended its support to the NDA candidate. The party had welcomed the candidature of Murmu, the first Scheduled Tribes candidate to become the President of India. He welcomed the NDA’s decision to give the country’s highest post to the STs at a time when the country is celebrating 75 years of Independence.

The YSR Congress said that the party had been promoting social justice and equal representation to the neglected sections. Jagan Mohan Reddy had made SCs, STs, BCs, Minorities and Women as deputy chief ministers in his government.

The party is also giving due representation to these sections in all nominated posts and Zilla Parishad and the urban local bodies. An SC MLC was made chairman of the Legislative Council while a Muslim woman MLC was made deputy chairperson of the Legislative Council.

The party said that the support to the NDA candidate was part of its ideological strategy.

Meanwhile, it is not known whether Murmu would meet the TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu during her visit to Andhra Pradesh. The TDP has four MPs and 23 MLAs in its account. The TDP is yet to decide on its stand in the presidential election.

YSR Congress plenary ends with a positive note

0

The two-day plenary session of the ruling YSR Congress concluded on Saturday with a positive note as party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy felt happy with the impressive crowd present at the session.

In a way, Jagan Mohan Reddy could achieve what he wanted from the plenary, which was held after a five years gap, due to Covid 19 pandemic. The last plenary was held in 2017.

Jagan Mohan Reddy got his mother Y S Vijayamma removed from the post of the party honorary president. He made his mother Vijayamma to announce her resignation on the first day of the session. But, he retained her in the plenary for the second day too to avoid media speculation.

He also got the party’s constitution amended to make him the life time president of the party. The party sources said that they took the clue from the DMK and the AIDMK which had permanent and lifetime general secretaries. However, it is said that the election commission would not allow such amendments in the parties and wants the parties to be democratic.

The third wish of Jagan Mohan Reddy was to change the name of the party. The party is now recognised as the Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party by the election commission. The election commission mentions the party in the same format. Jagan Mohan Reddy wants the party now to be named as YSR Congress Party or YSRCP and not as Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party.

It is to be seen whether the election commission would accept this amendment, which is almost equal to the change of the name of the party. Sources say that Jagan Mohan Reddy was not comfortable with the party’s name written as Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party in the ballot papers or on the ballot boxes as the name is too long for the people to read.

However, people in the opposition camp say that Jagan Mohan Reddy wanted to erase the images or any reference to Shiva Kumar, who got the name registered with the election commission and from whom Jagan Mohan Reddy took over the party.

Jagan family pays tribute to late YSR

1

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, mother Y S Vijayamma and other family members paid glorious tributes to late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy at Idupulapaya in YSR district on Friday. The family members visited the YSR Ghat at Idupulapaya in the morning and joined the family prayer service held at the memorial.

After the prayer service, Jagan Mohan Reddy and mother Vijayamma reached the party plenary venue near Acharya Nagarjuna University in Guntur district. The plenary started on the first day with the delegates reaching there from across the state.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy inaugurated the plenary after paying tributes to his father Dr Rajasekhar Reddy at the venue and hoisting the party flag.

The party leaders also organised a massive blood donation camp at the plenary venue to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr Rajasekhar Reddy. The Indian Red Cross Society delegates are collecting the blood donation at the plenary venue.

Party general secretary and Parliamentary Party leader V Vijayasai Reddy inaugurated the blood bank, while MP Dr M Gurumurthy and Minister Dr Sidiri Appala Raju are coordinating the blood donation.

The plenary would pass nine political resolutions during the two days and make amendments to the party constitution. The major amendment is to make Jagan Mohan Reddy as the party lifetime president on the lines of the DMK in Tamil Nadu. The party leadership is said to have secured clearance from the Election Commission to make this amendment, citing the permission given to the DMK in the past.

Jagan lays foundation for Nutech Biosciences

0

AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy laid a foundation for Nutech Biosciences Unit at Andhra Pradesh Centre for Advanced Research on Livestock (AP CARL) which is changed to Indo-German Global Academy for Agro-Ecology Research and Learning (IG GAARL) here on Thursday.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stressed the need for adapting natural farming to lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. He said the Centre will turn out to be of immense help to farmers, which will impart knowledge on natural farming. He stated that training in natural farming is necessary from the village level and said that natural farming methods will be integrated with Rythu Bharosa Kendras (RBKs) to create awareness among farmers.

He appealed to the farmers to reduce usage of chemicals in food products and opined that the research carried out at the academy will help the farmers to improve their productivity and earn better profits. He said that each RBK will be having master trainers to impart knowledge of scientific methods and support the farmers practising natural farming methods.

The Chief Minister said that about six lakh farmers are engaged in natural farming while 50 lakh farmers are doing agriculture across the State. He further stated that the RBKs will be turned into certifying agencies for natural farming products, which could gain a premium price and make other farmers join the trend. He expressed faith that the academy will develop as a world-class university and lead many more farmers toward natural farming.

The chief minister also appealed to the farmers to make best use of the RBKs which were established to assist the farmers right from registration of crops to the marketing of the produce. The government had also provided agriculture assistants in every village secretariat to assist the farmers, the chief minister said.

Ex-Andhra MLA escapes after police raid venue of cockfight near Hyderabad

A former MLA of Andhra Pradesh escaped when the Telangana Police raided a place in Patancheru near here where he had organised a cockfight.

Chintamaneni Prabhakar, a former MLA of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), had allegedly organised the cockfight at a mango grove. On a tip-off, police raided the place on Wednesday night and arrested 21 people. However, 50 others, including Prabhakar managed to escape.

A police team raided the mango grove in the Pedda Kanjarla village where a large group of men was engaged in betting on cockfights under the lights.

Patancheru Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhim Reddy said they conducted the raid after receiving information that Prabhakar was organising cockfights. The police team found about 70 people there but most of them, including Prabhakar managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

The police seized 31 roosters, Rs 13.12 lakh cash, 26 vehicles and 27 mobile phones.

The police said that Prabhakar, a former MLA Denduluru in Eluru district of Andhra Pradesh, was conducting the cockfights. The other main organisers were identified as Akkineni Satish, Krishnam Raju, Barla Raju.

Despite the ban, cockfights are common in many parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh during Sankranti celebrations. Crores of rupees change hands as cockfights are organised in towns and villages across several districts in the neighbouring state.

The organisers made specially-bred roosters fight with small knives or blades tied to their legs. The fight often ends with the death of one of the two birds.

Backed by powerful politicians and businessmen, the organisers make special seating arrangements for those participating in betting and for spectators.

Punters from not just neighbouring villages and districts but even Telangana and other states participate in the betting.

Some of the organisers also conduct the cockfights on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The latest incident shows that cockfights are not just confined to Sankranti celebrations.

It was in 2016 that the High Court had banned cockfights. The Supreme Court had upheld the ban.

Animal rights activists point out that as per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and the Andhra Pradesh Gaming Act, 1974, cockfights are illegal.

They say despite court orders, the cockfights continue unabated, reportedly under the patronage of elected public representatives while law enforcement agencies turn blind eye to this lawlessness.

Telangana complains against AP on Krishna river projects

0

The Telangana state government had reacted sharply to the proposal of the Andhra Pradesh government to build two new barrages across Krishna river in the downstream of Prakasam Barrage.

The previous TDP government also planned two barrages downstream of Prakasam Barrage to store the surplus water for the Krishna delta and the Diviseema area. However, it did not move forward as Chandrababu Naidu kept himself fully engaged in the Amaravati plan.

After the 2019 general elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy took over the reins and had stopped all the projects that his predecessor conceived. However, Jagan Mohan Reddy took up the two barrages plan and had announced it in 2020. But, it remained only on the paper for the past two years due to Covid 19.

Now with the Covid 19 situation coming to normalcy in the state and elsewhere, the government is making moves to realise the projects. The officials are now working on the paper to start the project and go for tenders.

Meanwhile, the Telangana government had written two letters to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) protesting against the two proposals. Telangana said that the two Telugu states have to get clearance from the KRMB before planning any project on the river. However, the Telangana government said that Andhra Pradesh had started the two projects without even getting clearance from the KRMB.

Telangana further said that the state was facing acute shortage of drinking water along the Krishna river. While priority is to be given for the drinking water along the river, the Telangana wanted the KRMB to stop the two barrages which are aimed at providing water for irrigation.

It is now to be seen how the AP government would react to the complaint and what the KRMB would do on the complaint.

AP IAS officer joins his children in govt school

0

A senior IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh joined his two children in the government school, giving a surprise to everyone.

IAS officer and Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) managing director N Prabhakar Reddy got his two kids to join the Zilla Parishad High School at Patamata in Vijayawada. Quite interestingly, he joined his children in the government school in Nellore when he was the joint collector there.

Prabhakar Reddy got admissions for his son Krish Dharan in Class VI and daughter Alex Sruthi in Class VIII in the school. The school now has the English medium because of which the bureaucrat got his children to join the government school.

The school also has a vast playground and compound wall, besides the basic amenities provided under the Nadu-Nedu programme of the state government. The state government had introduced English medium in almost all the government schools from the last academic year.

As the schools were reopened in the state on Wednesday, Prabhakar Reddy’s wife Lakshmi visited the school and got admissions for their children. She also had a brief chat with the school headmaster and interacted with some teachers, particularly the English teacher.

She went around the classrooms and checked the other facilities in the school. The teachers welcomed the children as their admission would give a new recognition for the school.

The Zilla Parishad High School at Patamata is one of the oldest schools in Vijayawada and is currently supported by some NRIs who studied there in the past. The alumni have been extending a helping hand to the school for the past couple of years.

Black balloons released at Vijayawada airport during PM’ visit

1

Andhra Pradesh Police on Monday arrested three Congress leaders for releasing black balloons at Gannavaram airport during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit.

Some Congress leaders released the balloons as a mark of protest during Modi’s brief visit to Andhra Pradesh over the Centre not granting special status to the state.

The balloons were released near the airport when the helicopter carrying the Prime Minister had taken off for Bhimavaram.

After landing of his special aircraft at Gannavaram airport, the Prime Minister left for Bhimavaram in West Godavari district by a helicopter to launch 125th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju.

Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan and Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who were at the airport to receive Modi, also left for Bhimavaram by another helicopter.

Taking serious note of the incident, police launched an investigation. They found that Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) secretary Rajiv Ratan released the balloons.

Since the area around airport was declared a no-fly zone in view of the PM’s visit, the release of balloons which came closer to the helicopters is being treated as a serious security lapse.

A case was registered against Rajiv Ratan, who is reported to be absconding. A police team was on the lookout for him. Meanwhile, police have arrested three Congress leaders for releasing the balloons.

State Congress leader Sunkara Padmasri was also detained by the police when she reached the airport raising slogans of ‘Modi go back’.

Holding a placard and raising slogans, she tried to move towards passenger terminal but was stopped and whisked away by police.

She alleged that both Modi and Jagan Reddy betrayed Andhra Pradesh over the issue of special status.

After the incident, police further stepped up security around the airport when Modi returned from Bhimavaram.

Naidu blames govt for social media arrests

0

TDP chief and leader of opposition, N Chandrababu Naidu blamed the AP state government for arresting the TDP activists for their posts in the social media. Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to DGP K V Rajendranath Reddy on Sunday asking him to stop the arrests.

He alleged that the CID police were harassing the TDP activists for their posts in the social media. He also blamed the police for arresting the activists in the midnight and terrorising the family members.

The TDP chief said that the arrests were against the ruling of the Supreme Court. He sought to remind the DGP that the Apex Court had advised the police not to arrest people for their posts in the social media. He wondered why the AP government was not following the Supreme Court directions.

He alleged that the police have arrested the TDP activists including Garlapati Venakteswara Rao, Mokarla Sambasiva Rao, who are being subjected to physical torture by the police. The TDP chief wanted the DGP to intervene and stop the arrests by the CID sleuths.

Chandrababu Naidu said that the YSR Congress government was victimising the political opponents. The TDP activists across the state are being arrested and tortured by the police. He wanted the police to be neutral and follow the rules despite the ruling party’s pressure.

The former chief minister asked the DPG to take action against the CID sleuths who were targeting the TDP activists and subjecting them to physical torture. He also cautioned the police and the CID against severe action and punishment after the TDP formed its government in the 2024 elections.

NSUI hits varsity trail with Agnipath protest in AP

0

Even as the government has rolled out the Agnipath scheme, the National Students Union of India (NSUI) has intensified its protests in Andhra Pradesh. The student organisation led agitations in three universities over three days.

Setting out on a ‘Students Satyagrah’ from Krishna Devaraya University on Monday, the protests reached Ananthapur, Sri Venkateshwara University, Tirupati on Tuesday and Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntoor on Wednesday.

NSUI National General Secretary Nagesh Kariyappa said that the central government should do a rethink on the Agnipath recruitment scheme in the armed forces. “The government should rethink about the length of service, provision of no pension for those released early, and the 17.5 to 21 age restriction that now makes around 35 lakh aspirants ineligible for the post, We will raise this issue on the streets, in the parliament and if necessary will go to the court, we got huge response in all the 3 universities we reached in last 3 days,” he stated.

Several students along with army aspirants participated in Tiranga rally inside the campus of Nagarjuna University on Wednesday followed by a signature campaign. Nagesh said that they will take the agitation to every university of the state by July 5. NSUI along with the leadership of the Congress will take up the issue in parliament and state assembly too, he added.

AP govt places senior IPS ABV under suspension again

The state government on Tuesday issued orders suspending senior IPS officer A B Venkateswara Rao for the second time. Rao was posted as the commissioner of printing and stationery after the supreme court orders early this month.

The government in its orders GO MS 55 said that the senior IPS officer, after taking charge as the commissioner of printing and stationery, had tried to influence witnesses relating to the criminal trial pending against him.

The government said that he is being placed under suspension under sub-rule 3 of Rule 3 of the All Indian Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1969. The government said that since the criminal trial against him is not disposed of yet, he is kept under suspension from service as the commissioner of printing and stationary.

The government also asked him to stay in Vijayawada during the suspension period and be available for the government. However, the government said that it would pay the subsistence allowance as admissible.

Venkateswara Rao was first suspended in February 2020 after Jagan Mohan Reddy took charge as the chief minister. Later, after a prolonged legal battle, the supreme court asked the state government to withdraw his suspension as it cannot be continued beyond two years.

Accordingly, the government had given him a new posting as the commissioner of printing and stationery. He assumed charge as the commissioner on June 17

Rs 800 crore GPF money of AP employees withdrawn!?

0

The state government employees in Andhra Pradesh are in a shock from last night. Some unidentified source had withdrawn their money from the General Provident Fund (GPF) account without their permission and knowledge.

According to Suryanarayana, the president of the AP Government Employees Association, the withdrawal started on Monday night. The money was withdrawn from the GPF accounts of over 90,000 employees, he said. This amounts to Rs 800 crore, he said.

From his own GPF account, an amount of Rs 83,000 was withdrawn for which he had received a text message. “I don’t know, nor did any of the government employees know who withdrew the money,” Suryanarayana told the media.

He said that he had gone to the finance department to enquire about the withdrawal. However, as the senior officials were not available in the office, he said he could not get a proper answer on the withdrawals.

Suryanarayana wondered who and how the money was withdrawn without the knowledge of the employees. He said that the money was withdrawn earlier too and when they protested, the money was returned to the GPF accounts.

When asked what could be the possibility of withdrawing the money from the GPF accounts, Suryanarayana said that the CPU unit of the finance department has the convenience or technical feasibility to withdraw funds. However, he said that there were no senior officials to confirm the withdrawal and give the reason!

Well, who did this and why are the big questions now bothering the State government employees.

Jagan govt to lease Amaravati towers?

Having decided to sell some pieces of land in Amaravati to get some revenue to the state exchequer, the YSR Congress government is said to be planning to lease out some of the buildings in Amaravati area. Though not completed, the previous TDP government under Chandrababu Naidu tenure had started more than a dozen buildings in Amaravati.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy government had stopped all the construction work immediately after coming to power in 2019. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had got a clear report on the status of each of these buildings. He resumed the construction work on some of the buildings which were completed beyond 75 per cent.

These buildings were completed and some of them are ready to occupy while there are another dozen such buildings completed nearly 50 per cent. These were all proposed to be the residential and office complexes for the IAS officers, government officials and employees.

While finishing the work on buildings which were completed beyond 75 per cent in the TDP regime, the government is said to be planning to lease out those which are completed 50 per cent of the work.

According to sources, the government is planning to lease out such buildings to educational institutions and hospitals. This would make the area busy as people keep visiting the area. The government had already started the work on completing the seed access road and laying a second road along the flood bank along the river.

These two roads would give better access to the area once they are occupied either by the private or the government offices.

However, it is to be seen how the high court would respond to this decision of the government as the court in March had directed the state government to complete all the works to make Amaravati the capital of the state.

Lokesh slams Jagan bid to sell ‘Capital smasanam’

TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh on Sunday accused Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy of hatching non-stop conspiracies to destroy the Amaravati Capital City.

Nara Lokesh asked how Jagan Reddy could put up Amaravati lands for sale at Rs. 10 Cr per acre after his Government called the Capital City region just a ‘smasanam’ (cremation ground).

Lokesh recalled how the ruling YSRCP Ministers and MLAs carried out a nefarious campaign against AP Capital. They said that Amaravati was prone to earthquakes and that the Capital city lands were vulnerable to floods.

Lokesh said that Jagan and his party leaders spread a vicious information propaganda against the mother-like Amaravati Capital. Now, the same YCP leaders were trying to sell Amaravati lands at a very high value. There seemed to be no end to the scheming and plotting of Jagan Reddy against the State and its Capital city.

The TDP for different reasons had invested mostly in Amaravati, both in terms of money and votes. It thought that Amaravati would help retain the power given the extensive publicity that was accorded to the unbuilt city.

Unfortunately, the TDP was defeated badly in Amaravati Capital city area, though it gained some victory in the Capital Region area. It had won two MP seats – Vijayawada and Guntur – which is Amaravati capital region area, but lost in Mangalagiri and Tadikonda, both are Amaravati capital city area.

Since the TDP had been keeping the Amaravati issue alive and had been fighting for it from 2019, it is to be seen if the city would resurrect the party to power in the next election.

AP Theatres heading for Closure again

0

The ticket pricing portal that is being introduced by the government of Andhra Pradesh created a stir across the exhibition industry in the state. The government of AP is in plans to take a complete control over selling the movie tickets in the state. The exhibitors are not in a positive mood about the move taken by the government. The exhibitors are not ready to believe about the funds that would be transferred after a day. The exhibitors of several districts met recently and discussed about the collective decision to be taken.

They have voted to head for a closure instead of bending to the decisions taken by the government of Andhra Pradesh. Several exhibitors approached the AP High Court and the decision is pending in the court. The exhibitors of the East Godavari district decided to shut the theatres and several others are in similar plans. The entire amount coming through the ticket sales will be collected by the government and they will be given to the exhibitors a day after. The AP government wanted the exhibitors to sign the MoUs for the same but none of them are interested.

The AP government clarified that the licenses of the theatres would be canceled if the MoUs are not signed. The government is keen to implement the same from July 1st. As of now, the exhibitors of AP are keen to close the theatres instead of signing agreements with the government.

50 MLAs in Jagan’s team have no ticket!

The Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) had given its first secret report to YSR Congress president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The report suggested no ticket for at least 50 sitting MLAs.

According to the sources, the I-PAC found these 50 MLAs as most inaccessible to the people, rarely visited the constituency, have not done any work in the constituency in the last three years, not raised any question or joined any debate in the Assembly, never addressed a public meeting in the constituency, besides other issues.

Ironically, most of these 50 MLAs have hardly participated in the “Gadapa Gadapaku Mana Prabhutvam” programme of the ruling party. Though most of the MLAs are actively participating in the programme, there are some who have not even visited one village in the last one month.

Despite Jagan Mohan Reddy giving a strict warning last month at the party meeting, these MLAs have not stepped out of their homes till now. Leave alone meeting the general public, some of them are not even meeting the party key activists and key leaders who play an important role in the villages both in electioneering and on the day of polling.

With the report on hand, the chief minister had asked the I-PAC to get the second report ready by July 8, when the party plenary begins. The chief minister almost made up his mind to blast these MLAs and look for alternative names.

Jagan Mohan Reddy also advised the I-PAC team to find at least three alternative names to the existing MLAs who are to be dropped in the next election. The team is now busy visiting the villages, meeting people and collecting the data on the sitting MLA, next best candidates. This list is likely to reach Jagan Mohan Reddy in the first week of July, when he gets ready to address them at the party plenary.

A Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader was injured during police action against a party worker who had allegedly concealed drugs at his house in Chittoor town in Andhra Pradesh.

Former mayor Katari Hemalatha suffered minor injury when she was allegedly hit by a police vehicle as she was trying to resist police’s attempt to arrest her follower Purna.

There was high drama at the residence of Purna in Santhapeta area when police reached there around midnight to conduct search, saying he has concealed ganja at his house. Purna denied this and alleged that he was being implicated.

On receipt of the information of police raid, Hemalata along with her supporters reached there and staged a protest. She tried to stop police from carrying Purna. As the police vehicle tried to speed off, it ran over Hemalata’s feet resulting in minor fracture. The incident triggered strong protest by former mayor’s supporters. She was admitted to a hospital.

Hemalata alleged that the police was trying to implicate Purna in a false case. She said the police conducted the raid hours after she wrote to a senior police official about some unknown persons threatening Prasanna, who is a witness in the murder of her in-laws Katari Anuradha and Mohan.

Anuradha, then mayor, and her husband were shot dead in her office in 2015.

Within hours of the complaint, police reached the house of Purna, who is brother of Prasanna. They alleged that ganja was planted at their house to frame them.

Police, however, said ganja was recovered from Purna’s house. It denied the allegations made by the TDP leaders.

Meanwhile, TDP state president K. Atchannaidu condemned the police action against Hemalata and her supporters. He said the ruling YSRCP was targeting TDP leaders for questioning its misdeeds.
