AP CM’s mother Y S. Vijayamma escapes unhurt in accident

1

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother Y S. Vijayamma escaped unhurt in an accident in Kurnool town on Thursday.

The former MLA was in Kurnool to call on the family of a friend of her late husband and former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy.

When she was returning from the town, one of the tyres of the car in which she was travelling burst.

The incident took place on the Gutthi road.

Vijayamma escaped unhurt to the relief of those accompanying her. She later resumed her journey in another car.

Last month, she had resigned as the honorary president of YSR Congress Party.

Vijayamma told the party plenary that she needed to stand with her daughter Y.S. Sharmila, who has floated a political party in neighbouring Telangana.

After Rajasekhara Reddy’s death in a helicopter crash in 2009, Vijayamma was elected unopposed to the Assembly of then undivided Andhra Pradesh from Pulivendula constituency in Kadapa district.

In the by-elections held in 2011 following the resignation of Jagan Reddy and Vijayamma from the Congress party, they were elected from Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, respectively, by record margins.

Vijayamma had contested unsuccessfully for Lok Sabha from Visakhapatnam in 2014.

Andhra CM moots revamp of welfare hostels in state

0

In a bid to revamp the welfare hostels system and maintain the structure on a war footing, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered for an action plan and standard operating procedure.

The chief minister on Wednesday reviewed the infrastructural facilities in SC, ST, OBC and Minority Gurukul schools’ welfare hostels under Nadu-Nedu scheme and ordered comprehensive development. He also directed the officials to focus on quality, instead of quantity while taking up the revamp works.

“Improve the existing hostels by increasing the monthly maintenance fund. Put yourself in their shoes while revisiting the numbers. Be empathetic and focus on the qualitative part,” said Reddy.

The chief minister called for moving the hostels out of rented buildings and housing them permanently in owned buildings within a year. He also said that all vacancies should be filled immediately. The state government is also introducing the family doctor concept to the hostels by connecting them with nearby PHC. “Doctors should visit the hostel on monthly basis,” the chief minister added.

Jagan tells officials not to involve millers in paddy procurement

0

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has directed the officials to stop the millers from exploiting the farmers during the paddy procurement by giving them qualitative and quantitative receipts at RBKs while the rest of the process will be done by the custodian officer of the government.

“Generate a random lottery system so millers would not know from which RBKs the grains are coming from,” Chief Minister instructed the officials. “There should be effective coordination between the various departments which helps the RBKs to function smoothly,” said the Chief Minister.

Like the family doctor concept, the Chief Minister also asked the officials to come up with a soil doctor who would give each landholding farmer or tenant a health card to monitor the soil and give them a specific diagnosis.

“Fertilizers based on lands will avoid the indiscriminate use of fertilizers by the people. Most of the farmers are not aware of the use of fertilizers and they are doing it because some other farmer has been following the model,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that RBKs should eventually become farmers’ doctors. “Soil tests should be done regularly and health cards to be given to the farmers. Along with health care, RBK should provide advice on fertilizers and crop cultivation suitable for that land,” said the Chief Minister.

The Chief Minister said that the farmers should get the minimum support prices and there should be no role for millers during the procurement process. “Famers should be educated regarding the procurements and MSP by seeing the posters at RBKs. The poster should also have phone numbers for the farmers to report any irregularities,” said the Chief Minister.

He said that RBKs have five kinds of testing including soil and the equipment should be provided along with the training to the staff. He also asked them to establish a weighing bridge at the RBK level so the dependency on the private bridge would be reduced.

An alert conductor of a state-owned APSRTC bus averted a tragedy after the driver fell off the vehicle after a collision with a car.

Passengers of the bus heaved a sigh of relief after the conductor took to the steering and controlled the vehicle after it had moved about 150 meters without a driver.

Jagan to begin interaction with party workers from Kuppam

0

Chief Minister and the YSR Congress president, Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is all set to begin his much-awaited interaction with the party workers from Kuppam Assembly constituency. The interaction is scheduled to be held from August 4 evening at his camp office in Tadepalli.

Jagan Mohan Reddy had intentionally picked up Kuppam to start his mission with an eye to defeat TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the next election too. Jagan Mohan Reddy is riding high with great expectations on Kuppam, as he could defeat the TDP in all the local body elections, right from village panchayat to the Kuppam Municipality.

He is scheduled to meet at least 50 active workers of the party from every assembly constituency at every meeting. He had asked the MLAs, MPs and the constituency incharge leaders to send the list of the names to be invited for the meeting with the chief minister. Besides, the chief minister’s office had also secured some names suggested by the I-PAC, the political consulting agency which works for the YSR Congress.

Jagan Mohan Reddy is scheduled to interact with a good number of them at every meeting, and finally speak for 30 minutes on the role to be played by these workers during the elections. He is getting feedback on every MLA ahead of these meetings and would get some additional information from them during the interaction.

Meanwhile, Jagan Mohan Reddy is also planning to hold Praja Darbar at Tadepalli camp office shortly, where he intends to meet the general public and receive representations from them. However, the chief minister’s office is yet to decide the dates and the schedule to hold these Darbars.

Late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy used to hold Praja Darbar every day when he was the chief minister and received representations from the people. Dr Rajasekhar Reddy received applause from the people through this intervention. It is to be seen how far Jagan Mohan Reddy would succeed in his meetings with the people in Praja Darbar.

The state government had moved from the present system of Primary Schools, Upper Primary Schools, High Schools and Junior Colleges, besides the Anganwadi Centres. In the new education policy, Satellite Foundation Schools, Foundation Schools, Pre-High Schools, High Schools and High School Plus.

Andhra HC declines bail to 3 accused in Vivekananda murder case

0

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday dismissed the bail petitions of three accused in the murder of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s uncle and former minister Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.

Justice D. Ramesh refused to grant bail to Sunil Yadav, Uma Shankar Reddy, and Devireddy Shiva Shankar Reddy – the second, third, and fifth accused in the case respectively.

Two of the accused had sought bail on health grounds. The orders on the bail petitions were reserved on June 29.

Uma Shankar Reddy’s counsel had submitted to the court that as the accused number one, said to be the main conspirator of the crime and fourth accused, who participated in the crime and later turned approver are out on the bail, the remaining accused who allegedly played only supporting role in the crime also entitled to bail.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the case, opposed the bail pleas, saying the accused were party to the entire conspiracy. It argued that if the accused are released on bail, the ongoing investigation will get affected.

Counsel of Sunitha, daughter of Vivekananda Reddy, also opposed the bail petitions.

Last week, the CBI approached the Supreme Court for cancellation of the bail given to Yerra Gangi Reddy, the prime suspect in the case.

The investigating agency filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissing its plea to cancel the bail granted to Gangi Reddy by a lower court.

The High Court in March dismissed the CBI’s petition. The central agency wanted the bail to be cancelled on the ground that Gangi Reddy was allegedly threatening some witnesses in the case.

Vivekananda Reddy, uncle of Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy, was found murdered at his residence in Kadapa on March 15, 2019, a few days before the election.

The 68-year-old former state minister and former MP was alone at his house when unidentified persons barged in and killed him. He was killed hours before he was to launch the YSR Congress Party’s election campaign in Kadapa.

Though three Special Investigation Teams (SITs) conducted the probe, they failed to solve the mystery.

The CBI took over the investigation into the case in 2020 on the direction of the Andhra Pradesh High Court while hearing a petition of Vivekananda Reddy’s daughter Sunitha, who raised suspicion about some relatives.

The CBI filed a charge sheet in the murder case on October 26, 2021 and followed it up with a supplementary charge sheet on January 31, 2022

Eight-year-old in Andhra found with suspected Monkeypox symptoms

0

An eight-year-old boy in Andhra Pradesh’s Guntur was found with suspected symptoms of monkeypox.

Health officials said on Sunday that his samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune.

The boy has been admitted to the isolation ward at Government General Hospital (GGH), Guntur.

The boy, son of daily wage workers from Odisha, approached the hospital with fever and rashes. The doctors isolated him and collected his samples. The samples, including swab from throat, blood, urine, from lesions on skin, have been sent to Pune.

Officials said the reports are likely to be available on Monday.

The boy’s parents came to Yedlpapdu in Palnadu district in search of work 15 days ago. He developed fever and rashes a week ago and his parents initially thought it was nothing serious. As the boy’s condition didn’t get better even after a week, they rushed him to Guntur GGH on July 28.

The doctors examined the boy and noticed rashes and fever, both symptoms of Monkeypox and shifted him to an isolation ward.

According to doctors, his condition is stable. His parents have also been kept under observation as a precautionary measure.

This is the second suspected case of Monkeypox in Andhra Pradesh. The first suspected case was reported from Vijayawada on July 17.

A two-year-old child, who had gone to Dubai with family, was found with skin rashes on return. However, the samples sent to NIV, Pune tested negative for Monkeypox.

Last week, the first suspected case of Monkeypox in neighbouring Telangana had also tested positive.

The 40-year-old man had arrived in Kamareddy town from Kuwait on July 6. He had later developed fever and rashes on the body.

Suspecting it to be a case of Monkeypox, doctors had sent him to Hyderabad, where he was admitted in Fever Hospital. However, the samples tested negative for Monkeypox.

Is Jagan settling for 155 seats in the 2024 election?

0

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy is telling his party leaders to focus on winning all 175 Assembly seats in the 2024 general election. He has justification for the top target. The first reason is the number of cash schemes that he had been rolling out for the last three years, benefiting almost every family in the state. The schemes were continued even during the lockdown and through the Covid pandemic.

The other reason is the party’s victory in Kuppam Assembly constituency which has been the fortress of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu. The TDP chief had been winning this seat since the 1989 election. He campaigned in the constituency in the 1989 and 1994 elections.

As he became the chief minister in 1995, he never visited the constituency to file his nomination during the election or to receive the declaration form after the election. In all, Chandrababu Naidu had won this constituency in seven consecutive elections.

Besides the MLA elections, the TDP had been doing well in the constituency in all the local body elections for all these years. But, perhaps for the first time, the TDP had lost all the local body elections.

The Jagan Mohan Reddy government had upgraded the Kuppam town into a municipality and now made it a revenue division headquarters in the district’s reorganisation. The present government had also constructed a primary health care centre, opened a junior college and provided new buildings for the school under the Nadu-Nedu programme.

With all these initiatives, the YSR Congress had won all the gram panchayats, mandal parishads and the municipal elections in the last year. Having won these elections, Jagan Mohan Reddy set his eyes on winning all 175 Assembly seats. “If we are winning Kuppam, why not the rest,” is what Jagan Mohan Reddy is telling his party leaders.

However, he is giving the target of 155 seats in his inner circle. While the 151 seats are from his own party, Jagan Mohan Reddy is firm on winning the four Assembly seats which were added to his party from the TDP. It is to be seen how far he would succeed in this mission 2024.

Jagan pays Rs 508 crore under YSR Kapu Nestham

0

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy paid Rs 508.18 crore under YSR Kapu Nestham on Friday, benefitting 3,38,792 women belonging to Kapu, Balija, Ontari, Telaga castes across the state.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said that the state government had credited Rs 16,256 crore through DBT for the Kapu community through various welfare schemes in the last three years, where Rs 1492 crore was spent alone on YSR Kapu Nestam.

He said that the scheme was not mentioned in the manifesto, yet it was initiated to benefit women by providing financial assistance of Rs 15,000 per annum, similar to YSR Cheyutha to empower women with business opportunities, and stated that the government is working for the welfare of these communities.

Drawing a comparison with the previous TDP government, he said that only Rs 400 crore per annum was spent for Kapu, Balija, Telaga and Ontari castes in TDP rule, while the present government had almost spent over Rs 32,296 crore in the last three years through both DBT and non-DBT schemes.

He stated that through DBT, funds of welfare schemes are being directly deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts without any corruption or discrimination and added that DPT (Dochuko, Panchuko, Thinuko) was effectively implemented during Chandrababu’s regime.

Taking a dig at the gang of four including Chandrababu Naidu, Pawan Kalyan, and a section of the media, the Chief Minister said that they were all trying to mislead people and secure power. He said that Pawan has been trying to sell the Kapu votes to Chandrababu. He asked people whether they want DBT governance or Chandrababu’s DPT rule.

No increase of Assembly seats in AP, TS

0

The Central government had once again made its mind clear on increasing the number of Assembly seats in the Telugu States. The increase may not be possible even for the 2029 general elections to the State Assemblies.

This was made clear in Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home, Nityananda Rai, on Wednesday that increase of the Assembly seats is not possible without amending Article 170 of the constitution.

He was replying to a question raised by BJP MP, G V L Narasimha Rao, who wanted to know whether there was any plan with the Central government to increase the Assembly seats as per the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

The MP said that Section 26 (1) of the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 had proposed an increase of Assembly seats in the Telugu states after bifurcation. The Act proposed to increase the Assembly seats in Telangana from 119 to 153 and in Andhra Pradesh from 175 to 225.

The Union Minister told Rajya Sabha that though the AP Reorganisation Act 2014 proposed the increase of the Assembly seats, it is not possible without amending Article 170 of the constitution. He said that Article 170 could be amended only after the national census is carried out.

This time, the Central government did not conduct the census as per the schedule in 2021 due to Covid 19 pandemic. The government had proposed to take up the census in the year 2026. Hence, the amendment to the Constitution is also not possible before the completion of the census, which might take at least two years.

Thus, the Telugu States are missing the increase of the Assembly seats for the two consecutive elections after bifurcation.

We are fighting with the Central govt, says Jagan

0

AP chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday said that the state government was fighting with the Central government on the funds to the Polavaram Project. He interacted with the Polavaram displaced families of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Eluru districts on the day as part of his tour to the flood-hit areas of the Godavari river.

The chief minister said that the previous TDP government did not focus on the rehabilitation and resettlement package for the displaced families. He felt that the rehabilitation and resettlement should have been completed by now to enable the storage of water in the Polavaram Project. He also blamed his predecessor TDP government for ignoring the payment of compensation to the project displaced families.

Stating that the Covid 19 had delayed the work at the project site, the chief minister further blamed the TDP regime for mishandling of the project. The failures and irregularities of the previous TDP government were punishing both the government and the displaced families.

He said that the flood was never seen in the last 35 years and maintained that the government acted fast and saved lives despite the heavy floods. When the residents said that they were shifted to the rehabilitation colony during the floods, but were inundated, the chief minister wondered how the rehabilitation colony marooned in the flood water.

The chief minister further said that the government was fighting with the Central government to get the funds released earlier to complete the payment of compensation and implementation of the rehabilitation and resettlement package for the displaced families.

The chief minister claimed that the village volunteers and the staff of the village secretariats have worked hard during the floods to save people from the inundation. He also congratulated the officials and the collectors of both Alluri Sitarama Raju and Eluru districts for their active participation in the flood relief works.

0

Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy gifted his pen to a child during his visit to the flood-hit villages of Ambedkar Konaseema district on Tuesday. During his visit in the Pedapudilanka village, he saw a mother carrying her eight-months-old boy and picked him up.

Jagan Mohan Reddy held the child, Nakka Vijaya Chaitanya, in his hands and was listening to the people, when the boy picked up the pen from the chief minister’s pocket. The child could not hold it and it slipped to the ground.

The child’s mother picked up the pen from the ground and returned it to Jagan Mohan Reddy. Smiling at the child, Jagan Mohan Reddy handed over his pen to the child, wishing him to study well as he grew up.

The mother was in tears as she took back her child from the chief minister along with the pen, as others in the village cheered the chief ministers’ gesture.

Later, Jagan Mohan Reddy received a representation from a woman in the same village who said that her husband fell sick and she was finding it hard to manage the family. The chief minister directed the district collector to appoint the woman as village volunteer.

Before the chief minister left the village, the district officials readied the appointment letter Jagan Mohan Reddy handed over to the woman.

The chief minister also met a mentally retarded man, Matha Sathyannarayana in the same village. The chief minister told the officials to provide better health care to him and extend some financial support to the family.

According to the statement given by the Union Finance Minister, Andhra Pradesh’s debt stood at 3.98 lakh crore, while Telangana’s debt stood at 3.12 lakh crore. Andhra Pradesh is among the top 10 states having highest debt in the country.

Telangana, according to the Union Finance Minister, is in the top 20 states list holding 12th position. Among the southern states, Telangana is having the lowest debt burden, while Tamil Nadu tops the country with Rs 6.59 lakh crore.

Karnataka has a debt burden of Rs 4.62 lakh crore, followed by Andhra Pradesh with Rs 3.98 lakh crore and Kerala with Rs 3.35 lakh crore.

Showing the various states’ debt list supplied by the Union Finance Minister, Andhra Pradesh leadership might heave a sigh of relief as there are seven states with greater debt burden.
