Will YSRCP wean Kuppam away from Chandrababu?

1

The ruling YSRCP is training all its guns on Kuppam in Chittoor district. Kuppam is former CM and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu’s constituency and more significantly, is the only constituency in Chittoor district that did not return a YSRCP MLA. In all other seats, the YSRCP has notched up impressive victories.

Now, the YSRCP is allocating huge amounts to Kuppam. Every scheme of the YS Jagan government is given priority in Kuppam. The reason? The YSRCP wants to showcase its works and ensure that even Kuppam falls into its kitty in 2024. Apart from welfare schemes, the YSRCP government is allocating huge amounts for the schools in Kuppam.

For instance, an amount of Rs 30.36 crore has been allocated to the Nadu Nedu scheme, which is meant to improve the infrastructural facilities in the educational institutions. As many as 117 schools in Kuppam, Ramakuppam, Santipuram and Gurupalle mandals have been selected under this scheme. For the Kuppam Boys School in Kuppam, a staggering amount of Rs 90 lakh is being spent. The school would be developed as a Demo School.

The idea is simple. Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy is hell bent on weaning Kuppam from the TDP’s grip. He is doing everything possible to erode the ground from underneath Chandrababu’s feet. But, will he be able to take Kuppam away from Chandrababu Naidu? Will all these schemes and benefits defeat Chandrababu and his well-entrenched connection with the people of Kuppam? Let’s wait and see the game unfolds in Kuppam.

Police behaved in high-handed manner against party leaders: TDP

1

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) Chief, N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday alleged that Guntur police behaved high-handedly against its party leaders for meeting the family members of 20-year-old engineering student, N. Ramya, who was murdered in Guntur district on Sunday.

“The ruling YSRCP government should take immediate action against the police officials who were responsible for the attack on TDP leaders. What was the police doing and the Disha App failed when the brutal murder of a Dalit girl took place in the vicinity of the Guntur police station?” Naidu asked.

The former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister alleged that police attacked TDP leaders Nakka Anand Babu, Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Dhulipala Narendra, calling it a violation of human rights.

“It was a blatant attack on the democratic values of the country,” Naidu said.

It was painful to see a poor girl getting murdered when everybody else was celebrating Independence Day, he added.

The TDP supremo demanded that Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy pay a compensation of Rs one crore to Ramya’s family.

Naidu challenged the YSRCP government to nab the accused Venkata Reddy, who according to him was allegedly involved in the gang rape of the girl near the Chief Minister’s house.

“It was not so great to use power and might of the government to target TDP leaders such as Nara Lokesh, Nakka Anand Babu, Alapati Rajendra Prasad and Dhulipalla Narendra. What was Disha App doing when the girl’s murder took place in close proximity of the Guntur police station?” the TDP Chief said.

He claimed that the alleged absence of CCTV cameras in the heart of Guntur town exposed the lack of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s concern for the safety of women, adding that the Andhra Pradesh government and the police must be answerable.

Naidu urges Andhra people to draw inspiration from freedom fighters

0

Telugu Desam Party President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday called upon the people of the state to get inspiration from the country’s freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices in the great struggle for independence from the British Raj.

Naidu stressed the need for continuing the relentless fight against the suppression of the weaker sections and the backward classes and unchecked exploitation of the public wealth. “When similar oppression took place under the colonial rulers, the freedom fighters rose in revolt and fought valiantly till India achieved freedom. It was a matter of great pride that the whole country was celebrating Independence Day all over in the name of ‘Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav’,” he said in a statement.

However, he noted that “while our forefathers made sacrifices for freedom and rights, all obstacles were being created now for the growth and development of people in Andhra Pradesh”.

“What would be the meaning of sacrifices made by those great souls if those fruits were not passed on to the people,” he asked, stressing the need for all sections of society in the state to introspect and come forward to oppose “the oppressive tactics of the present rulers”.

“There was an emergent need to protect the state from the ongoing destruction. The immediate task before one and all would be to rally together to boldly confront and prevent the rulers from harming the state any further,” he said.

TDP national General Secretary Nara Lokesh, in a separate statement, extended his greetings to the people of the country on the occasion of 75th Independence Day celebrations.

He expressed the wish that the spirit of Independence Day would help the Andhra Pradesh people and make them free from harassment, false cases, oppression and from suicides of jobless youth.

Andhra govt jeopardizing Visakhapatnam tribals’ future: TDP

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Monday alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government is encouraging bauxite mining in Visakhapatnam forest area and thereby jeopardizing the future of tribals.

“Government is encouraging bauxite mining in Visakhapatnam forest, leading to jeopardizing the future of tribals,” alleged Naidu.

He claimed that the mining by people connected to the ruling YSRCP party has not stopped even after the tribal unions complained and the National Green Tribunal (NGT) told to stop.

Naidu alleged that none of the schemes TDP introduced are for the safety and welfare of tribals.

“There is no response from the government over the cancellation of tribal reservations GO-3,” alleged the TDP supremo.

He demanded that the government take action to revive the closed tribal schemes as well as putting an end to alleged illegal bauxite mining.

The former chief minister made these observations commemorating the International Day of World’s Indigenous People.

He went on to allege that the state government is harassing Polavaram project evacuees at every moment.

“Without giving compensation, the government forcefully made people vacate their homes, causing them to become homeless,” he added.

Why Naidu isn’t questioning Centre over fuel prices, asks YSRCP

0

Andhra Pradesh’s YSRCP government adviser Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy on Tuesday wondered why Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu is not questioning the Central government over skyrocketing fuel prices.

His query came as the TDP said it has decided to undertake protests on Saturday against rising diesel and petrol prices in the state.

Reddy also alleged that TDP leaders just organise some Zoom conferences, protests at home and take a few photographs of those activities to amplify them in their favoured media houses.

“Chandrababu Naidu and his party leaders do not have the right to question the state government on petrol and diesel prices issue. You do not have the stature to talk about (Chief Minister Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy) Jagan’s regime, even as he is managing a crisis situation without putting blame on anyone,” he said.

He cited the price hikes on fuel and road transport corporation fares during the Naidu regime between 2014-2019.

Meanwhile, he said that a lot of bad campaigns are going on against the government with respect to Amaraja battery company, adding that it is emitting dangerous pollutants and even the High Court had warned it.

‘Chandrababu calling for coalition of registered parties’

0

Navataram Party (NP) founder Ravu Subrahmanyam on Saturday said Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has called upon all the opposition parties to form a united front to take on the incumbent Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSRCP government in the future.

Subrahmanyam said Naidu made these observations when he met him on Friday night at Vijayawada for about half an hour.

He hinted that something on the lines of Andhra Pradesh Political Joint Action Committee (APPJAC) could come up for 2024 polls to face YSRCP.

“I was invited to meet Naidu on Friday. I met him at the TDP Mangalagiri office and spoke to him. Appreciating my work in the Tirupati Parliamentary by-poll, he said the time has come for all opposition parties to join hands,” said Subrahmanyam.

Though Navataram Party is a minnow compared to other established players, Subrahmanyam said Naidu promised TDP support for all the good work of the party.

Echoing with Naidu, he said TDP and other parties should join hands to achieve the goals of special category status, fulfil bifurcation promises, protect Amaravati capital, save Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and others.

He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre and the YSRCP in the state are implementing anti-people policies.

The Navataram Party founder said a coalition of opposition parties should fight together to expose the alleged misdeeds of YSRCP, even as he condemned the arrest of former irrigation minister and senior TDP leader Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao.

He also met with TDP leader Parachuri Ashok Babu.

In the recent Tirupati Parliamentary bypoll, NP contested the election under the glass tumbler symbol, which is also Janasena party’s symbol.

Despite several efforts, BJP and Janasena failed to restrain minnow Navataram Party from contesting the by-poll under that symbol as it ran the risk of confusing voters.

TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu meets family members of Devineni Uma

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president and former chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday met the family members of Devineni Uma Maheshwara Rao to extend solidarity and console them.

Rao is currently under arrest for allegedly perpetrating an attack on YSRCP leaders in Krishna district.

Naidu said Rao has been targeted because he exposed the alleged illegal mining by the ruling party leaders at Gaddamanugu in Krishna district.

He said the ruling party leaders are not confident of coming back to power in 2024, which is prompting them to loot as much as possible.

The former CM warned of retaliation to the YSRCP leaders in the future.

Meanwhile, TDP national general secretary Nara Lokesh said that the alleged illegal mining activities of YSRCP leaders are getting unravelled one by one.

He alleged that under the mask of mining laterite, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s relatives are mining bauxite.

Lokesh said he will not rest until he exposes the alleged YSRCP mining mafia and ensure that the culprits go behind bars.

Chandrababu’s biggest challenge: How to protect NTR Trust Bhavan

0

Does Telangana CM KCR have an eye on the NTR Trust Bhavan, which is still the headquarters of the TDP? Is is planning to take over the major property on the prime land in front of the KBR park? The political circles are pointing out that the deliberate leaks from the KCR government are indications that he has some plans for the scheme.

The lease of the Telagnana Bhavan will end in 2027. Once the lease expires, the government is planning to turn the building into NTR memorial and snatch it away from the TDP. The government is ensuring that there are periodic leaks about this. In fact, there may not be much opposition if the building is converted into an NTR memorial. If the TRS manages to come back to power in 2023, it would be in a position to cancel the lease. Sources also say that the government may also cancel the lease before the expiry of the lease and take over the building.

Sources say that Chandrababu has appointed a president for the Telangana unit of the TDP only to show that there is some political activity and that the building is firmly in the party’s control. Periodic programmes and service activities in the name are meant to protect the building. However, it is now becoming increasingly clear that TDP has little future in Telangana region.

Already there are complaints from a section of the NTR Trust Bhavan employees that some workers from AP are ruling the roost and that they are jeopardizing the interests of the employees from the Telangana region. The Telangana origin employees have already written to Chief Minister KCR on this issue. Though KCR has not initiated any action, there are leaks from his government sources that the lease of the building could be reconsidered.

Is this Chandrababu’s game plan for Telangana?

What is Chandrababu Naidu’s game-plan in appointing Bakkani Narsimhulu as the party president for Telangana? Bakkani without doubt is a loyal TDP man and has been with the party through thick

and thin. He did not even make an attempt to join any other party. But, can he be the right choice for the party, which is hoping to revive and reinvent itself in the key Telugu state of Telangana?

TDP’s long-standing Telangana state unit president L Ramana has recently resigned and joined the TRS. Since then, the party remained headless in Telangana. After much deliberation, Chandrababu Naidu appointed Bakkani Narsimhulu as the party chief. This has surprised many as there were senior hands like former MP Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy. Reddy had held senior positions for decades and can reorganise and resurrect the party. But, ignoring his credentials, Chandrababu opted for Bakkani.

Though fiercely loyal, Bakkani did not have a sparkling career. He was MLA for one term from Shadnagar. He is relatively unknown even in Shadnagar these days. A Dalit and known to be highly religious, Bakkani made a name for himself as a preacher of Bhagavad Gita in Shadnagar and surrounding areas. It was this popularity that brought him into politics.

But, will he be able to rise up to the situation and rebuild the TDP? Will he leverage his Dalit status and try to bring those sections closer to the TDP? These are the questions being asked ever since he has been appointed the party president for the Telangana state unit. Interestingly, Bakkani himself has said that it was only the TDP that has made a Dalit the party president. No other party as a Dalit as the state chief, he said.

Narasimhulu new President of TDP Telangana

0

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Monday appointed Bakkani Narasimhulu as the new President of its Telangana unit.

TDP national President and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu appointed Narasimhulu, a former MLA and Dalit leader.

Narasimhulu met Naidu at the party office in Amaravati and thanked him for giving him the new responsibility. Naidu congratulated him and hoped that under his leadership, the TDP will grow stronger in Telangana.

He also met TDP national General Secretary and MLC Nara Lokesh, who congratulated and stressed the need for standing by the side of the people and fight for solutions to their problems.

Narasimhulu succeeded L. Ramana, who last week resigned from the TDP and joined the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

Ramana, a former MP and former minister, had been heading the TDP in Telangana since bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh in 2014.

Several key leaders of the TDP have defected to the TRS during the last seven years. The party’s cadres at grass root level also switched loyalties to the ruling party.

The TDP currently has no MLA or MP in Telangana.

In 2014 elections, the TDP had won 15 seats in 119-member Telangana Assembly. Barring one, all had defected to TRS. Its lone MP from Telangana had also switched loyalties to the TRS.

In 2018, the TDP could win only two seats and both of the MLAs recently joined the TRS.

KCR to create mega IT Hub in Hyd to beat Naidu’s Hitech City!

1

The TRS government in Telangana led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao never recognised, publicised, showcased or owned Hitech City in Cyberabad in Gachbowli, which was created by previous TDP government in Undivided Andhra Pradesh led by then CM N Chandrababu Naidu.

Because any talk or mention about Hitech City or Cyberabad brings memoirs of Chandrababu Naidu, who transformed Hyderabad into a global IT hub during his tenure as CM from 1995 to 2004.

For this reason, KCR only publicises or showcases the pictures of Charminar in all the advertisements issued by Telangana government in media during any official events.

The TRS government could create only “T-Hub” in Gachibowli during the past seven years and whenever any IT event takes place or any delegation from any state or country visits Hyderabad, it showcases only T-Hub and never showcases Hitech City.

To fill this void now, KCR has reportedly decided to create a mega IT Hub on Hyderabad city outskirts, which is bigger than Hitech City and Cyberabad and in this way he wants to erase the memories of Naidu on IT sector front.

KCR is planning to set up IT Hub spread over 640 acres in Kollur on city outskirts abetting Outer Ring Road with a view to creating employment for over 10 lakh IT professionals. The present Hitech City and Cyberabad created IT jobs to nearly 5 lakh people.

The government owns major chunk of this land required for IT Hub in Shankarpally mandal.

Land will be allotted to IT/ ITES companies in this IT Hub for cheaper rates to set up their operations and provide jobs to IT professionals.

Jagan raised expectations but has failed to deliver: TDP

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo and former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday slammed Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, saying that he raised a lot of expectations before coming to power but has not delivered on anything.

“The CM raised a whole lot of expectations with his countless promises before the elections but now he was leading the people to the cremation grounds,” said Naidu.

He lamented that people in the state are reeling under the rising prices of sand, liquor, cement and other items.

“People gave a massive victory to the YSRCP thinking that CM Jagan would work miracles to uplift their living standards. But now, what this Chief Minister ushered in was universal corruption and punishment to people through hikes in current (power) charges, RTC fares, diesel prices etc..,” he noted.

On Wednesday, the former chief minister visited Machilipatnam and slammed the ruling Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) for ‘destroying’ the economy and financial condition of the state for the narrow personal gains of the ruling party leaders.

“In the past two years, the personal family treasury of CM Jagan Mohan Reddy is overflowing with ill-gotten funds while the treasury of the state has become empty. The profits of Bharati Cements soared to the skies while the tiny incomes of the poorer sections and middle classes got wiped out,” Naidu claimed.

He also questioned Reddy on why he was not wearing a mask and what example he was setting for the people.

Referring to the Rs 100 fine fixed for not wearing a mask, the TDP chief asked how many penalties should be levied on the CM for allegedly repeatedly failing to wear a mask.

“A young man was beaten to death for not wearing a mask in Chirala. On the other hand, Reddy was not leading the people by example in this respect,” he added.

Jagan once again ignores Chandrababu’s security protocol

1

Once again the Jagan Government has ignored basic protocols while providing security and the convoy to former CM and TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. When Chandrababu visited Tirupati called on the family members of former chairperson of the Sports Authority of India (SAAP) PR Mohan, who passed away recently, the officials reportedly threw to winds all security protocols.

There was little coordination among the police vehicles and Chandrababu’s convoy. At least three places heavy vehicles like lorries have come in between the police vehicles and the convoy. According to TDP sources, this was fraught with dangers and security risks. Yet, the police allowed the heavy vehicles to pass through the convoy. The No 10 vehicle in the Chandrababu convoy should be a larger vehicle. However, the authorities had provided a small car. Moreover, the car was independent of the convoy for a larger part of the time.

More worrisomely, the police van that carries the personnel of the rope party, which controls the crowds, arrived ten minutes after Chandrababu arrived at the airport. This too is a serious security lapse, say those with considerable experience in handling VIP security. As a former CM and as someone who was the target of the Naxalites in the infamous Alipiri attack, Chandrababu Naidu is entitled to Z Plus category security. The Alipiri attack happened on October 1, 2003.

Downgrading of Chandrababu’s security has been a major issue since 2019. The YSRCP had reduced his security cover, which Chandrababu got reinstated due to legal intervention. In August 2019, the security personnel had frisked Chandrababu at Gannavaram airport. He was also denied VIP access to the aircraft. He had to travel in the bus along with other passengers to reach the tarmac. Under the Z plus category, he is entitled to NSG and AP police intelligence wing security. The Z Plus category is considered second only to the SPG cover, which is provided to the Prime Minister and the President of the country.

Will Jagan’s Krishna water weapon bleed Chandrababu Naidu further?

Is AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy using the Krishna river water dispute as a stick to beat Chandrababu Naidu and the TDP? Is he trying to make use of the issue to snuff out the opposition to his rule? Sources in the know say that his plan is to emerge as a saviour of Rayalaseema and a protector of AP interests. At the same time, he wants to portray Chandrababu Naidu as a duplicitous politician.

During the Telangana agitation, the Congress had always tried to put Chandrababu in a spot. Chandrababu, who then had interests in both the regions, began talking about a two-eye policy. Due to this, he slowly lost the initiative in Telangana and today, his party’s presence is only skeletal in Telangana. Jagan is now trying to use the same strategy to corner Chandrababu.

The YSRCP is trying to portray that while he followed the two-eyed policy on Telangana, he is now following the ‘three-eyed’ policy on Krishna river water. Interestingly, Chandrababu has not said anything on the Krishna water dispute so far. There is neither a comment nor a statement from Chandrababu. He cannot oppose the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation, as this will leave the party weakened in Rayalaseema. Even otherwise, the party is in a weak position in Rayalaseema. Hence, he is silent on the issue. At the same time, he cannot openly back the RLS as it would further alienate him in Telangana.

In another development, the TDP leaders from Prakasam district such as MLAs Gottipati Ravi, Veeranjaneya Swami and Eluri Sambasiva Rao are opposing RLS claiming that it would leave their district parched. They have already written a letter to YS Jagan saying that Prakasam is already suffering acute water scarcity and any diversion of Nagarjunasagar water will severely affect the district.

Using these, Jagan wants to show that the TDP is talking in three differing and even contradictory tones on the same issue. The aim is to further weaken the TDP. So, Krishna waters are now being used to tame TDP. Let’s wait and see how Chandrababu will handle this situation.

Telangana is multi-party setup, there’s future for TDP: Chandrababu Naidu

1

Everyone has written off the Telugu Desam in Telangana. Even the president of the Telangana unit of the party, who was with the party through thick and thin, too has deserted for greener pastures in the pink party. Both the victorious MLAs of 2018 assembly elections are now firmly seated in the TRS. Yet, Chandrababu Naidu still feels that there is some role for the TDP in Telangana.

Chandrababu said that the TDP was born on Telangana soil in 1983 and will definitely have a bright future in the state. Talking to the party workers meet in Hyderabad the other day he called upon the party workers to create new history in Telagnana by rejuvenating the party. He organized a meeting of senior party workers from Telangana, including politburo members, central committee members and key leaders at his residence in Jubilee Hills on Saturday.

Leaders like Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy, Bakkani Narsimlu, Katragadda Prasuna, Aravind Goud, Nannuri Narsireddy and incharges of 14 parliamentary constituties. During the three-hour long meeting, the party leaders have entrusted the responsibility of choosing a successor to L Ramana, who has recently joined the TRS. Chandrababu reportedly will speak to the key leaders like the vice-presidents, general secretaries and affiliated organisations’ leaders before finalizing the name of the new party president. If all goes well, there would be at least five working presidents for Telangana.

Interestingly, Chandrababu Naidu said that unlike Andhra Pradesh, where a two-party political system has evolved, Telangana was still a multi-party system. Hence, the TDP will have future in Telangana, he averred. He also assured the party workers that he would personally get involved in the party work in Telangana. He asked the party leaders to focus on constituting party committees at every level.

This is how YSRCP is weaning Kuppam away from Chandrababu

1

Kuppam is a TDP citadel that hasn’t witnessed defeat. For decades Chandrababu himself has been the candidate. The victory was always facile and the margin was always huge. But in 2019, Chandrababu trailed for a long time before coming from behind to win the seat.

Emboldened by this, the YSRCP is making a concerted effort to wrest the seat from Chandrababu Naidu this time. The YSRCP is focusing on the voters in a focused way. For instance, the YSRCP has so far given 14653 land pattas to the beneficiaries under the Housing for All Scheme. Similarly, the party is using the village secretaries to good effect. As many as 34956 welfare pensions are being given. The fact is – as many as 30970 of these pensions were there even during the TDP regime. The YSRCP added nearly four thousand more beneficiaries.

Similarly, Arogya Sri scheme is being implemented in a targeted way. As many as 13468 persons have been benefited by the Arogya Sri, according to YSRCP activists. Amma Vodi, another scheme which is part of the Navaratnalu, is being implemented for 53197 beneficiaries. In all these, the village secretariats are emerging as crucial players. Schemes like Jagananna Vidya Deevena, Jagananna Vasati Deevena are also being implemented for targeted beneficiaries.

The YSRCP has details such as phone numbers, Aadhar Card details of every beneficiary and these details are being used to create a continuous interface with the voters. The party has deputed MP Reddeppa Reddy especially for Kuppam to ensure that the welfare schemes reach the targeted beneficiaries and their date is entered into the database of the party.

Unfortunately for the TDP, its workers are demoralised as several local TDP leaders have joined the YSRCP. Another major drawback is that the top leaders have not been visiting the constituency citing Corona and other reasons. Due to this, YSRCP is having a field day in Kuppam. It is time the TDP sets its house in order and take up remedial measures.

Naidu desperate after losing power: YSRCP MP

1

Rajya Sabha member and senior YSRCP leader V. Vijayasai Reddy on Friday slammed Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, saying that he has become desperate after losing power.

“From the time Chandrababu lost power, he has been restless like a fish out of water,” mocked Reddy.

He alleged that Naidu “is wishing for lakhs of Covid deaths in the state to undermine the good name Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy is earning across the country for effectively tackling Covid”.

“When the whole country is praising Jagan’s effective control of Coronavirus with vaccinations and foresight, Babu is bringing disrepute with fake protests,” claimed Reddy.

The Rajya Sabha MP also trained his guns on a section of media houses for allegedly being in favour of the TDP supremo and claimed that ‘they are spending sleepless nights after Jagan Mohan Reddy won a landslide victory in 2019’.

Calling those media houses as “slave media to the TDP supremo”, the YSRCP leader alleged that “Naidu is feeling happy by disseminating favourable news from caste-aligned media houses.

“He (Naidu) got used to fighting with the shadows but people don’t care what Babu is doing after the emergence of distance between him and people,” he said, terming Naidu’s recent protest as a 3-hour movie.

The Parliamentarian also attacked Naidu’s son Nara Lokesh, alleging that the latter may get a stay from the Court against the state government’s recent order of banning cigarette and gutka (chewable item) sales within 200 metres distance of schools.

“He (Lokesh) will say how can cigarette sellers live? When liquor prices are increased, the intellectual will question what will happen to liquor lovers?” Reddy mocked.

Naidu Garu! it’s time you shed this dead weights

0

Fair-weather friends are with you when everything is hunky dory. But they vanish as fast as the fleeting clouds in times of adversity. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu must be learning this lesson the hard way. All those leaders who were with him all these days, have now disappeared. Some of the seemingly loyal followers are now looking the other way.

Recently, he organised a three-hour-long Sadhana Deeksha, the first ever by Chandrababu after the Covid hit us. He wanted to breathe some energy into the TDP cadres, who are feeling low especially after the recent reversals in Tirupati, panchayat and civic body polls. The programme was aimed at holding the government to account over covid compensation payment. Chandrababu himself plunged into action and joined the protest at the party headquarters in AP. The idea was to have such protests in all the 175 assembly constituencies.

However, in reality, it was found that many of those who enjoyed power all these days, were absent at the dharna sites. In Chittoor, Chandrababu’s home turf, several leaders stayed away from the dharna. For instance In Palamner, former minister Amarnath Reddy was absent. Ditto with Bojjala Sudhir Reddy in Srikalahasti. In other places, the leaders did come. But, they scooted off once the mediapersons clicked pictures of the dharna. The response of the leaders was lukewarm in Gangadhara Nellore, Chandragiri, Punganuru and even in Kuppam.

Even in Krishna district, considered a party citadel, the response has been poor. None of the leaders were seen in action. It was left to low-level party cadres to do the honours. Those who fought and lost the 2019 elections were completely inactive. No leader worth the name was seen at the dharna sites. A section of the party feels that it is time the party chief shed these ‘dead-weights’ and focus on young blood, which is willing to fight it out.

TDP demands special package for Covid-affected families

0

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) supremo and former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday demanded the Andhra Pradesh government announce a special package for coronavirus-affected families.

He said the state government should follow Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other states in taking a step like this.

Naidu demanded the state government immediately announce financial assistance of Rs 10,000 for all white cardholders.

“This was necessary on account of the pathetic conditions of the poor families in the face of Covid losses in addition to price rise. Loss of work opportunities was a severe rude shock for them during the pandemic,” he said.

Similarly, he demanded a monthly assistance of Rs 7,500 to private teachers, auto rickshaw drivers, construction workers and unorganized sectors.

“AP became the only state not to have given a special package at a time when all other states extended some assistance or other to rescue their people,” the TDP leader claimed.

Likewise, he called on Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to set aside alleged narrow political agenda and start purchasing vaccines in order to inoculate all the people of all age groups.

“The rate of the vaccinated population should be increased from the present 23.2 per cent to at least 70 per cent in AP. People would be safe from the severe threat of Covid-19 only if they were vaccinated fully,” Naidu said.

Is this why is Chandrababu not joining anti-Modi front?

1

At a time when the regional parties across the country are looking at an anti-Modi front with or without the Congress, one name is not at all being heard. Normally, it is hard to ignore this personality in any political configuration. The leader in question is Chandrababu Naidu.

But, Chandrababu is missing In Mamta Banerjee’s national expansion plans or even in Prashant Kishore-led anti-Modi front. Chandrababu too is said to be uninterested in these configurations. But time was when he literally led the plans to form political fronts. Chandrababu played an instrumental role in making Deve Gowda and IK Gujral prime ministers. He was also key to the Vajpayee government as the convener of the NDA.

Even in case of 2019 elections, he talked of third front and held parleys with regional satraps like Mamta Banerjee, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Sharad Pawar and Mayawati. He even talked of forming a regional pressure group ahead of the 2019 elections. But, all these calculations went awry when he failed to come back to power in Andhra Pradesh. Besides losing power in the state, he now has just three Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP in his kitty. Such low numbers can never be effective bargaining chips.

But sources close to Chandrababu claim that Chandrababu does not want to antagonize Modi at this stage. Hence, he is adopting a neutral stand. More than that, his first priority is to come back to power in 2024. Chandrababu realizes that protecting his citadel in AP is more important that playing a key role at the Centre at this stage. Hence he is said to have negatived proposals from some regional leaders to join the ‘third front.’ He feels that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Clever politics indeed.
