No one has pressurised us to change ‘Manikarnika’ release: Kangana Ranaut

0

Actress Kangana Ranaut, geared up for the release of her next film “Maniakarnika — The Queen of Jhansi” on the Republic Day weekend, has said no one has requested or pressurised the makers of her film to advance or delay the release of the film, which is clashing with late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray’s biographical film “Thackeray” at the box office.

Kangana was interacting with the media at the music launch of “Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi”, along with film’s music composer Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, writer-lyricist Prasoon Joshi and other cast and crew members of the film here on Wednesday.

Earlier, “Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi”, “Why Cheat India” and “Thackeray” were scheduled to release on the Republic Day weekend, but the makers of “Why Cheat India” advanced their release to January 18 when makers of “Thackeray” requested them to do so.

Asked if “Manikarnika” makers faced any pressure from the “Thackeray” team to change the release date of her film, Kangana said: “We haven’t been approached by anyone who has requested or forced us either to prepone or postpone release of our film.

“We haven’t been pressurised by anyone, so we are very happy that we have got a sort of a big window to release our film on Republic Day weekend. I think two films can easily come on the same day and so far, nobody has pressurised us. It will be completely wrong to say that we have been approached or pressurised to do something that we didn’t want to do.”

Kangana plays the central character of Rani Laxmibai in the film. She has also directed a few portions of the film.

Sharing her experience of being a part of the film, Kangana said: “I am a very small part of this very big film. Until now, I have always worked in small films but this is actually my first big film… Not because of the budget, not because of the story. It is a big film because of the kind of artistes I am getting to work with.”

Praising the film’s music composers, Kangana said: “It’s my first film with Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. What they have done for this film, I don’t think words can explain that. There are 7 to 8 songs in the film and each one is better than the other. We weren’t able to understand which song we should release first but I feel audience will have great time when they will listen to entire album.”

“Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi” will hit screens on January 25, while “Thackeray” will hit the screens on January 23, Bal Thackeray’s 93rd birth anniversary.

Sonu quits ‘Manikarnika…’; Kangana blames male chauvinism

0

Actor Sonu Sood has walked out of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ owing to his professional commitment towards ‘Simmba’. But Kangana Ranaut, the leading lady of the film, has claimed that he left the movie as he “refused to work under a woman director”.

With Krish being busy with his other film, Kangana has stepped in to direct the patchwork of “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”, which tells the story of Rani Laxmibai.

Sonu, who plays a grey character in Rohit Shetty’s “Simmba”, has grown a beard as part of his looks and is busy shooting the film. But the actor was supposed to have been clean shaven like a warrior in “Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi”, backed by Zee Studios and producer Kamal Jain.

It was reported that the makers of ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ will tweak the script of the historical biopic because of his new looks for the film “Simmba”. But the plan didn’t work.

“Inconveniencing the team of his current film, to accommodate the demands of another, are against his professional principles. Sonu has taken the higher road ahead and wishes the team of ‘Manikarnika…’ all the best,” Sonu’s spokesperson said in a statement.

Kangana has claimed that Sonu “didn’t even give us tentative dates to match combinations with other actors”.

“He refused to meet me… He refused to work under a woman director. Even though the team suggested that they have full faith in me, it seems, Sonu had neither dates nor faith,” Kangana said.

The actress also said that Sonu decided to incorporate a few ‘kushti’ scenes which were never there in the script.

“He wanted the producers to retain the kushti portions as he made the body for it for four months. How did I know that is happening behind my back? When writers saw the film, they said they don’t want it,” he said.

According to a source close to Sonu, a major reason behind Sonu’s exit from the film is Kangana’s unprofessional attitude and false claims.

“Sonu has never had any problems with anyone in his almost two decade-long career. Sonu has previously worked with the woman filmmaker, Farah Khan. Also, Kangana claims that Sonu had shot the kushti scene behind her back, but surprisingly the director has to be present on the set to shoot a film and not just the actor,” added the source.

“Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi” is slated to release on January 25 next year.

Kamal Jain said: “Our team is totally focused and dedicated to finish the patchwork shoot to complete the film on time as our release date of January 25 is set in stone. The post-production and VFX is going on in full swing.”

Kamal also expressed his wish to work with Sonu again.

“With a heavy heart, we have mutually decided to part ways due to his date unavailability. He is a thorough professional. I would love to work with him again,” he said.

Nothing objectionable in ‘Manikarnika’, say film’s makers

0

The makers of “Manikarnika”, a biopic on the valiant Rani Laxmibai, on Tuesday said the movie neither distorts historical facts nor does it portray anything objectionable.

The comment comes after Brahmin outfit Sarva Brahman Mahasabha demanded the makers to share complete details of the film’s story to rule out any tampering with facts.

Kamal Jain, the film’s producer, said in a statement: “As responsible filmmakers, we have taken utmost care while portraying Rani Laxmibai’s character and have consulted historians and scholars. Rani Laxmibai was a freedom fighter and one of the most respected leaders our country has seen. She is a symbol of valour and the film’s story depicts the same.”

“Manikarnika” features the fearless Kangana Ranaut in the lead role.

“The film doesn’t portray anything objectionable about Rani Laxmibai and nor has the film distorted the history in anyway. The film showcases Rani Laxmibai in a most respectful manner and is an inspirational story which every kid and every member of a family would love to see.

“We as country would be proud to showcase the bravery, courage and heroism of Rani Laxmibai to the world.”

The makers have said they are open to sharing the script with “authorised persons” who have any “doubts” about the movie, which is a tribute to Rani Laxmibai.

Suresh Mishra, President, Sarva Brahman Mahasabha, wrote a letter to the makers, saying the film’s shooting will “not be allowed in Rajasthan till the complete information on the historical ground of the story is made available”.

The organisation has also accused the film producer for “tampering with historical facts”, which Mishra said, will “not be tolerated and a massive protest will be staged in case their request is not paid heed too”.

Meanwhile, not satisfied the clarification from the filmmakers, representatives of the Mahasabha have decided to call on Rajasthan Governor Kalyan Singh on Wednesday and submit a memorandum requesting him to take from the producers an affidavit which declares that the film does not distort historical facts.

Speaking to IANS, Mishra said: “We want to ensure that any film which is being shot in Rajasthan does not distort historical facts and hence we want the state government to act accordingly.”

He said that a representative board of the Mahasabha would meet the Governor and request Rajasthan government to make arrangements for obtaining an affidavit from the producers, outlining the story line of the film and also confirming that it did not tamper with the historical facts.

The news about “Manikarnika” comes soon after “Padmaavat” emerged successful following a long-stretched battle with Rajput outfit Shri Rajput Karni Sena over alleged distortion of facts — a contention that the movie’s producers had been denying since its shooting began.

“Padmaavat” was not allowed to be shot in Rajasthan after its director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was assaulted in Jaipur. The film also did not release in the state.

Tough to remain ‘headstrong’ in filmdom: Kangana Ranaut Interview

0

Actress Kangana Ranaut, known to speak her mind despite the reactions her words elicit, says it is difficult to remain “headstrong” in Bollywood as there are always people who try to make one “feel insignificant”. But she continues to fight it.

“Being an outsider in the business, I have fought to carve a niche for myself. I have also been opinionated and I choose to express my views openly,” Kangana told IANS in an email interview.

“In our industry, it becomes difficult to remain headstrong as you are often judged for not following the status quo. There will always be a segment that will try to make you feel insignificant, but it is important to channel your strength and confidence and work hard to triumph. It’s important to grow a distinct voice to break the clutter,” added the National Award winner.

Kangana, a Reebok brand ambassador, is a part of the second edition of the brand’s #FitToFight campaign, which fights looming gender demons of eve-teasing and pay disparity.

The actress has been actively talking about her struggle in the industry as well as her relationships with actors like Aditya Pancholi and Hrithik Roshan. She tagged filmmaker Karan Johar as a “flagbearer of nepotism” during his chat show.

Does she consider herself “mentally tough and fit to fight”?

“Absolutely,” she said.

“My experiences in life, on the personal and professional fronts, have helped shape the individual I am today. There have been moments in my life when it was very difficult to continue working in unfavourable conditions. But I fought my way, to make a mark for myself.

“I realised the importance of being tough, both mentally and physically, which encouraged me to deliver my best regardless of the odds. In my journey, I learned that challenges may always beset you, but if one is strong-willed and determined, you can overcome them,” added Kangana, often tagged the “Queen” of Bollywood.

In her last released film “Simran”, she played an imperfectly perfect girl who wants to lead life on her own terms. Does she think such characters hardly exist in real life where girls are always following the norm?

“My career trajectory is full of characters and films where I am trying to redefine the conventional heroine tag. I think it is important to reinvent oneself continuously and diversify your craft.

“I have been fortunate that I have worked in path-breaking films such as ‘Fashion’, ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Simran’ where I play individualistic characters. I do know ‘Queen’ had a strong impact on viewers. I always choose to do roles where there is a message being delivered that makes the viewer think differently and shapes their choices,” said the actress, who will next be seen in “Manikarnika”.

She also feels “there are many women who aspire to dream bigger and better” and she is one of them. Kangana, who comes from a small town in Himachal Pradesh, says her circumstances never discouraged her from chasing her dreams.

“I encourage women to believe in their strength and value their hard work. My motto has always been to follow my own path and not succumb to norms. I believe it’s important to celebrate yourself and grow with each experience,” she said.

This is what she is trying to promote with the #FitToFight campaign.

“I hope to inspire other girls through my stories of courage, faith and conviction. I truly believe in the limitless potential that every woman possesses to be physically, mentally and socially fit. I do hope my story and journey of facing adversities, fighting obstacles and emerging stronger and fitter, will inspire other women to be Fit to Fight,” she said.

Hrithik breaks silence on row with Kangana

0

Actor Hrithik Roshan on Thursday broke his silence on the dragging row with actress Kangana Ranaut, saying he has never met her privately and asked how two “high-profile celebrities” could have had a seven-year passionate affair without any evidence.

Hrithik, son of veteran actor-filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, said that “just like a nagging health issue sometimes ignored can turn malignant, this situation for me has unfortunately turned malignant.

“The truth is, I have never met the lady in question one-on-one in my entire life. Yes, we have worked together, but there has been no meeting in private. That’s the truth,” he said. He added he was “not fighting against an allegation of an affair”.

“I’m in fact protecting myself from something far more serious, sensitive and destructive than that,” Hrithik said in a statement.

The row began last year when Kangana hinted at Hrithik being her “ex-boyfriend”.

She said in an interview that she fails to understand “why exes do silly things to get your attention”.

The actress lodged a legal complaint against Hrithik for “misusing” the confidential emails and photographs of the time when they were together.

Hrithik later filed a complaint with the cybercrime cell, claiming an imposter had been emailing Kangana from a bogus email ID, pretending to be him.

The mud-slinging has continued till date, with Kangana and her sister constantly accusing Hrithik.

The “Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai” star questioned: “An alleged seven-year long, passionate affair between two high profile celebrities with no trail left behind.

“No evidence, no paparazzi pictures, no witnesses, not even a memento in possession like a selfie taken at the alleged engagement which is claimed to have happened in Paris in January 2014. Nothing that constitutes an exchange or any sort of proof of a romantic relationship.

“Yet we want to believe the other party because the rhetoric is – why would a girl lie.”

Hrithik also refuted talk of an alleged engagement with Kangana in Paris.

“My passport details show no travel outside the country in January 2014, which is the date that this alleged engagement supposedly took place. In Paris.

“The only so-called proof presented of this alleged ‘relationship’ was a photoshopped picture in the media. This was immediately exposed, the very next day by friends including my ex-wife.”

Hrithik was married to Sussanne Khan, with whom he has two sons. They separated in 2014.

The actor says the investigation regarding the emails is on.

“There are 3,000 one-sided mails which either I have sent to myself or the woman in question has sent to me. The Cyber Crime department can prove or disprove either story, in just a few days. Towards that purpose, I have surrendered all my devices including laptops/phones which are still lying with the Cyber Cell, but the other party has refused to do so.

“This is not, and I repeat, not a lovers spat. I humbly request people to stop labelling it as one and, for a second, try and see it for what it really is.

“I have been harassed by this for four years and the well meaning and probably necessary social bias toward women has deemed me helpless in defending myself.

“I’m not here to accuse or judge anyone, but it’s time I defend the truth because when truth suffers the collective consciousness of society suffers. Civilization suffers. Closer to home, families suffer. Children suffer.”

War episodes will be highlight of ‘Manikarnika’: Vijayendra Prasad

0

Writer-director Vijayendra Prasad, who has penned the story of Kangana Ranaut-starrer upcoming epic drama “Manikarnika”, says the war episodes will be the biggest highlight of the film.

Being directed by Krish, the film will be an epic biographical drama about Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi.

“I had agreed to pen the story only if the makers roped in Krish to direct. They liked his work in ‘Gautamiputra Satakarni’ and brought him on board. Since we are dealing with history and hard facts, we did a lot of research for this project,” Vijayendra Prasad told IANS.

Kangana plays Queen of Jhansi in the film, which will be high on action.

“The war episodes will be the major highlight of the film. It will be shot on a scale that has not been seen before on Indian screens,” he said.

Prasad has also penned the story of upcoming Tamil film “Mersal”, starring superstar Vijay.

He says he would like to write a sequel to Telugu blockbuster “Magadheera”, directed by his son S.S Rajamouli.

National Award Winning Filmmaker to Direct Telugu Remake of Queen

Its been three and a half years since the release of Kangana Ranaut-starrer Bollywood film ‘Queen’. Discussions for its remake in all the South languages have been going on for a long time. It seems the Telugu remake has finally landed in safe hands.

Our trusted sources have divulged that acclaimed Telugu film director Neelakanta has been finalized to direct the Telugu remake of ‘Queen’. Neelakanta has won numerous awards including a National Film Award and a couple of Nandi awards for his acclaimed films such as ‘Show’ and ‘Missamma’. The director however has been going through a barren period for past few years. ‘Queen’ remake will be a potential opportunity for him to bounce back.

There were rumors in the recent time that Kajal has been roped in to reprise the lead role enacted by Kangana in the Hindi original. They all turned out to be baseless rumors as Tamannah is playing the female lead role in the Telugu remake. An official announcement in this regard will be made in a week. Amy Jackson will play the character of heroine’s friend, the second most important role in the film.

Post ‘Baahubali’ first part, Tamannaah really hasn’t had any notable film to her credit. Hence, she hopes to make great use of the potential ‘Queen’ remake to revive her fading career.

Doing sword-fighting stunts myself in ‘Manikarnika’: Atul Kulkarni

0

Actor Atul Kulkarni has been roped in to play Ramchandra Pandurang Tope, better know as Tatya Tope in upcoming film “Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi”. He says he is doing all his sword-fighting stunts himself.

Directed by Krish, the film features actress Kangana Ranaut as Rani Laxmibai.

“After Kangana in the title role, Atul has the most powerful role in ‘Manikarnika’. He has been learning horse-riding and sword-fighting alongside Kangana and since they are both shown to be fighting from the same side in the war, the two of them spent a lot of time getting into the combined collaborative mode,” a source said.

Atul, who earlier played Ramprasad Bismil in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Rang De Basanti”, said: “This is something I’ve never done before. I am doing all my sword fighting stunts myself. My body-double hired to do the stunts just sits around on the sets doing nothing.”
