Fans upset over re-release of ‘RRR’ uncut version in the US

1

The uncut version of blockbuster ‘RRR’ will be released in 100 theatres across the United States but fans who do not understand what an uncut version entails, seem to be upset.

Fans are wondering if there are any additions from the originally screened movie in India.

But, the truth is the uncut version refers to the original film that all the audiences have watched, and it is simply a term used by Hollywood to refer to the original film that has not been edited or cut for English audiences.

The theatrical re-release of ‘RRR’s uncut version will be a one-night event.

S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ scored big at the box office all over the world as it grossed over Rs 1,100 crore.

Not what the script said: Poor scripts lead to string of Tollywood failures after ‘Pushpa’, ‘RRR’

0

Big stars, eminent directors and big budgets can’t guarantee success of a film and this has been proved by a string of failures in Tollywood after the smashing success of ‘Pushpa’.

Big stars, eminent directors and big budgets can’t guarantee success of a film and this has been proved by a string of failures in Tollywood after the smashing success of ‘Pushpa’.

The last four months saw several eagerly awaited movies hitting the screen but barring S.S. Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ starring Junior NTR and Ram Charan, others either bombed at the box-office or registered average success.

Chiranjeevi, arguably the biggest name in Tollywood, could not guarantee a great opening for ‘Acharya’.

Starring megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead and his son Ram Charan in an extended cameo, the movie directed by Koratala Siva was released on April 29 to a lukewarm response at the box office. Negative reviews saw a huge drop in the movie’s collection in the first four days.

It disappointed even in Telugu states. In Andhra Pradesh it opened to increased ticket prices for the first week as per the policy of the state government for big-budget movies. However, so poor is the performance of ‘Acharya’ that trade analysts believe its business may end within this week.

Despite the hype around the movie due to the presence of the father-son duo and a large number of their fans thronging theatres in the first week-end, it failed to live up to the expectations.

Those who track Tollywood say that Acharya could end up as one of the biggest disasters of 2022.

A cliched story and dated narrative without effective emotions resulted in the huge disappointment for Chiranjeevi’s fans who had high expectations with this maiden collaboration between megastar and successful director Koratala Siva.

This was the second famous father-son duo to flop at the box-office. Earlier, this year ‘Bangarraju’ starring Nagarjuna and his son Naga Chaitanya came as a disappointment. While their fans were excited to see them together on the screen, this could not save the movie based on a done and dusted script of a supernatural drama. Kalyan Krishna made this as a sequel to ‘Soggade Chinni Nayana’ (2016) which starred Nagarjuna in a dual role and was commercially successful.

Another big disaster this year is ‘Radhe Shyam’ starring Baahubali fame Prabhas in the lead. The multi-lingual period romantic drama failed to live up to the high expectations.

Starring Prabhas in the role of a world-famous palmist, ‘Radhe Shyam’ in Telugu, Hindi and Tamil had hit the screens on March 11. Despite stunning visuals, grand outdoors, visual effects, romance and good music, the movie bombed due to cliched story.

‘Bheemla Nayak’ starring Pawan Kalyan and ‘Baahubali’ fame Daggubati Rana was another much-anticipated movie to hit the screens in February.

It was a Telugu remake of ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ (2020), a Malayalam language action thriller. Unlike ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’, which was about clash of egos between two men, it was Pawan Kalyan who dominated ‘Bheemla Nayak’. Rana’s role was played down to allow power star, as the brother of Chiranjeevi is popularly known in film circles, take the centre stage.

Romantic comedy ‘DJ Tillu’ starring young actor Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Neha Shetty in the lead also did average business.

Leading actor Ravi Teja starrer ‘Khiladi’ turned out to be a flop. Released theatrically along with a Hindi dubbed version on February 11 this movie, written and directed by Ramesh Varma.

Industry analysts say poor script is the main reason for many Telugu films bombing at the box office after the grand success of ‘Pushpa’. “The strength of the script makes a film successful. If somebody comes with a loose script and uninteresting script, automatically the film flops. No matter how big a star is and how good a director is, it all depends on the strength of the script. Nobody can save a film if the script is poor,” says film analyst Prabhu.

He believes that a film can succeed only if the script makes the audience sit in theatres without losing their attention.

The film critic, however, adds that a subject a filmmaker chooses is not the entire story. “Whatever line you take, it needs to have some interesting scenes. 10-15 interesting scenes elevate a movie. Lack of strength in the scenes is the main cause of failure. There are no other reasons because the filmmaking standards are very high, wonderful and far ahead,” he opined.

The expert says one can’t blame artists for a film’s failure as all stars are proven artists. It all depends on the script and character an artist gets.

“We can’t blame artists. Actor is like water which takes the shape of a vessel. It all depends on the capability of the director, how best he moulds the character and how best he creates interest in the character,” he said.

According to Prabhu, even ‘Pushpa’ did not have a great script but the way Allu Arjun inculcated the strength, the density of character, a rough and tough wild character and his mannerism helped. “This film has highlighted the smuggler’s character and glorified it. This shows the film does well even if the bad character is portrayed in an intensive and interesting manner,” he added.

3 months and 3 South films: Will Bollywood rechristen itself?

In the last three to four months of time, three south movies outperformed Bollywood movies and it is learnt that there’s a paradigm shift in the approach of Bollywood makers on film making. However the Big question is whether Bollywood will be able to rechristen itself and reclaim the throne i.e. top Industry of the country. Details as follows.

Three movies that have outperformed Bollywood movies in recent times are – Pushpa, RRR and KGF2. When Pushpa was released there wasn’t much buzz though. However the movie surpassed another Bollywood Big movie 83. Later when RRR released, Bollywood hero John Abraham commented that “We are not number 2 to any other industry “ and released his “Attack” movie while RRR was in theatres. Attack movie was a disaster at the box office. Now during KGF2 , Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey movie got postponed to release at a later point of time. Before just a couple of years, Telugu and Kannada movies forcing Bollywood movies change their release date couldn’t be conceived even in the dreams.

Now Bollywood makers seem to be in the thinking mode and plan movies on pan India scale. Most of the big wigs of Bollywood are asking the writers to again focus on heroic subjects rather than multiplex subjects. We need to wait and see whether Bollywood will be able to rechristen itself and if so how fast can that happen..

Pan-Indian release turns a stress for Filmmakers

0

Baahubali franchise paved path for a pan-Indian release erasing the barriers of language. Several South films headed for a pan-Indian release but the real fact is that the audience are not ready to watch every big-budget film or periodic dramas from other languages. Movies like Syeraa proved it. Vijay’s Beast that released this week ended up as a disaster. Pawan Kalyan’s Bheemla Nayak is finding tough to find the right release date in North Indian theatres. The producers are spending lavishly on the dubbing work and they are releasing the films in other languages after the lead actors are insisting.

Pan-indian release is a huge stress for filmmakers as most of them are not even recovering the digital expenses. There are several distributors who are ready to release the films of South Indian stars but they are not ready to take the risks. The producers have to bear the digital charges and this is costing a bomb. With RRR and KGF: Chapter 2 emerging as super hits, there would be more and more films heading for pan-Indian release.

Though the North Indian audience love to watch the films of several actors on the small screen, they are not really interested to watch the films of these stars on the big screen. This has been proved several times in the past but the actors are forcing the filmmakers to head for a pan-Indian release which is bringing a lot of financial stress on the makers. Salaar, Pushpa: The Rule and Liger would be the biggest pan-Indian attempts from Tollywood in the future.

‘Naatu Naatu’ scared me: Chiranjeevi

1

Megastar Chiranjeevi, in a promotional video for “Acharya”, said that he was blown away by his son Ram Charan and Tarak’s dance performance in the promo for “Naatu Naatu” from “RRR”.

The promotional video for “Acharya” was released earlier, and it captures a candid conversation between Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and director Koratala Siva that took place months ago.

Chiranjeevi predicted that he would struggle to live up to the expectations placed on him, as his son might steal the show. When Chiranjeevi had to shake his legs with Ram Charan, he was not feeling confident, because he could not believe that he could match Ram Charan’s grace.

The “Indra” actor told Ram Charan and Koratala Siva a week before the shoot: “I was really impressed by the promo for ‘Naatu Naatu’ from ‘RRR’ the other day. I’m terrified of dancing with Charan.”

The song titled “Bhale Bhale Banjara” featuring Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan will be released on Monday. The duo will be seen together on screen in the Koratala Siva directorial “Acharya” which will hit the screens on April 29.”

Ram Charan clarifies on dominating NTR in RRR

0

There are debates about the roles of NTR and Ram Charan ever since RRR released. Though Rajamouli balanced the roles and heroism of Ram and Bheem, some of them felt that Charan had a better role than NTR. Some of them told that NTR carried the entire film on his shoulders dominating Charan. During the media interaction in Mumbai, a journalist said that Ram Charan walked away with all the accolades. Soon Charan responded saying that it is not true.

“I don’t believe that at all. Not even for a second. We both have excelled beautifully and Tarak was fantastic. I don’t think I have enjoyed working in any other film in my career and what I will take back from RRR is my journey with Tarak. Thank you Rajamouli garu for the opportunity” told Charan. The video is now viral on social media. Both Ram Charan and NTR wished to work together in the sequel of RRR if it happens. Pen Studios arranged a success bash last night in Mumbai and the team attended the bash.

RRR 12 days AP/TS Collections

RRR has another good day in the Telugu States as the film has collected a distributor share of 4.80 Cr. The total share of the film now stands at 238.50 Cr. Except for Ceeded which has dropped 20% from the previous day, all other areas have remained at the levels of Monday or a bit more as it was a sort of partial holiday. These areas might see a drop today and it needs to be seen how that is going to be. The film has opened the 100Cr Club in Nizam which is the share of a film generally in both Telugu States combined.

RRR holds good on second Monday – 11 days AP/TS Collections

RRR has a good hold on second Monday in the Telugu States as the film has collected a share of 5Cr. Total share of the film now stands at 233.7 Cr approx. Ticket rates are back to normal all over the Telugu States and that has helped the film to garner better footfalls when compared to friday which also had the advantage of holiday eve. Reduction in ticket rates doesn’t mean the rents will come down and that will affect the share of the film especially in B,C centres where ticket rates are much lesser now. Now the film needs to holds with normal drop day by day unlike in the first week where it had significant drops day by day.

RRR 10 days AP/TS Collections – Nears 230 Cr mark

RRR 10 days AP/TS Collections

RRR has another excellent day in the Telugu States as the film has collected a distributor share of 16.20 Cr. Total share of the film now goes past 229Cr. The film has shown just 20% drop from the Ugadi day which is quite good and better than expected. Real test for the film starts from today with ticket prices coming down in both the Telugu States and that should actually help the film to have better occupancies. The film is yet to achieve breakeven in many areas of A.P and it needs a good run of 1 week atleast.

Dil Raju to host a party for team RRR

0

Top producer Dil Raju acquired the Nizam distribution rights of RRR and he is making handsome profits in the territory. RRR is expected to end up as the first film to cross Rs 100 crore mark in Nizam. Dil Raju is quite delighted with the film’s performance and he decided to throw a lavish party for the entire team of RRR. Dil Raju will host the party today and the venue is kept under wraps. The top producer earlier hosted a party for the team of Akhanda after the super success of the film.

Dil Raju wanted to host the party before SS Rajamouli, NTR and Charan turn busy with their respective projects. Rajamouli and his family are planning a holiday for two weeks and Charan will resume the shoot of Shankar’s film this month. NTR is on a break and he will start the shoot of Koratala Siva’s film in June. On the other side, RRR had an exceptional second weekend all over.

Update on RRR Digital Release

1

There is a drastic change in the theatrical run of Indian films. Most of the theatrical revenue is recovered in its first week and the films are getting streamed on OTT platforms in less than a month from the theatrical release date. RRR which is the biggest ever Indian film in the recent times is having a dream run at the theatrical windows. There are discussions about the digital release of the film. The makers earlier clarified that there would be ample time between the theatrical and the digital release.

RRR will now stream on various digital platforms only ten weeks from the theatrical release date. Movies like Pushpa are streamed in a month and some of them had their digital streaming in 4-6 weeks. But the makers of RRR made sure that the film will have a long theatrical run. The plan for pay-per-view model is chalked out. The date would be locked and will be announced soon.

RRR First Week days AP/TS Collections – All Time Record By a margin

0

RRR has a very good first week in the Telugu States with a distributor share of 184.60 Cr. The film has created a new record with a huge 67 Cr margin. Baahubali2 had collected 117.50 cr earlier. The film will now beat Baahubali2 lifetime share (199 Cr) by the end of tomorrow. It has created first-week records in 7 out of 8 areas with East Godavari (Baahubali2) being missed. Coming to the film’s performance on Weekdays it has done well in Nizam but the occupancies of the A.P state are a bit alarming after Monday. The numbers are there due to the ticket prices but occupancies are a bit low. Also playing on many screens is one of the reasons for less share because of the rentals. Distributors will hold the screens till the end of Sunday as tomorrow and the Day after are bound to be huge.

Rajamouli to take a crucial call on RRR Digital Release

0

RRR is off to a humongous start at the box-office and the film shattered all the records in its first week. With no major releases this week, the film is expected to have a strong second week all over. There are speculations about the film’s digital release and Pen Studios revealed that the film’s digital streaming would take place after 75 days from the theatrical release date. Pen Studios bought the non-theatrical rights and sold them off to various parties in different languages.

There are ongoing discussions about a pay-per-view deal after the theatrical run of the film comes to an end. SS Rajamouli and Jayantilal Gada will meet next week to discuss about the pay-per-view model. As there are various parties involved, the sharing of revenue has to be finalized and the deals are to be inked. If the talks are not positive, Rajamouli is in plans to drop off the pay-per-view model and RRR would stream on the platforms after three months. The final decision will be taken in a week.

RRR 6 days AP/TS Collections

RRR has a decent first Wednesday as the film has collected a distributor share of 9.35 cr taking 6 days total to 177.20 Cr. The drop is 30 percent from Tuesday which is a bit more than the usual drop. Too many screens are playing the film and that is resulting in a further lesser share. It needs to bear the rentals today and may be even tomorrow as the demand will be huge for the film on Saturday (Ugadi festival) and Sunday.

Rajamouli never showed RRR for us before the release: NTR

0

NTR and Ram Charan are celebrating the super success of RRR directed by SS Rajamouli. NTR interacted with the national media and revealed several facts during the film’s shoot. He also explained the amount of hard work he kept for the film and about Rajamouli’s vision and perfection. Here are the highlights from his recent interactions:

“My career will be defined as before RRR and after RRR. Bheem is a guy with brutal strength who is innocent and is the King of the Forest. I was stunned by the reaction of the audience that were recorded and kept on Youtube about my episode with animals. I was like damn. I was like how can Rajamouli do it and how can he catch the pulses of the audience exactly. The audience are different but Rajamouli brings everyone together. We are responsible as actors and we have so much fear to deliver our best. RRR might cross Baahubali and I have no idea. It gives immense strength and courage to bring out better and bigger content” told NTR

“There are at times when I used to ask Rajamouli about how many times more do I need to do a shot and wanted it to be corrected in CG. He was like CG? He is a perfectionist. Rajamouli explained my introduction episode with the tiger in detail. Things become for an actor to imagine and deliver after the detail given by the director. He did not show the film before the release” told NTR.

Debate of pan-Indian image for NTR and Charan

0

It was Baahubali franchise that made Prabhas a Superstar in all the languages. All his recent films got a wide and massive release but the actor could not utilize the super success of Baahubali. Now two Tollywood Superstars NTR and Ram Charan played the lead roles in SS Rajamouli’s film RRR which had a wide release and is having a dream box-office run. Both NTR and Ram Charan will have the advantage of releasing their upcoming movies on a pan-Indian scale. There are debates going on about who would emerge as a successful star in North.

For now, both NTR and Ram Charan signed films and are busy with their upcoming projects. But their fans triggered debates on social media about the pan-Indian fate of their upcoming movies. For now, NTR and Ram Charan are focused on their upcoming movies and their upcoming movies will head for a pan-Indian release. But their performance in other languages will purely depend on the content, genre and the release dates.
