Can YCP make inroads into TDP’s vote base?

1

The AP’s new cabinet gives an impression that it was formed with an eye on the TDP’s BC vote base. Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had given over 68 per cent of the cabinet berths to the BCs, SCs, STs and Minorities to impress these sections ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, the TDP has been strong and has strong roots into the BCs right from its inception in 1982. Even when NTR was in power and heading the party, the BCs were given priority in the cabinet and party posts. The BC voters even in the undivided Andhra Pradesh gave their lives and votes to the TDP.

Whatever the seats that the TDP had won in the 2019 general elections is mostly because of the BC vote base. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu had been reviving the BC slogan these days more only to ensure keep the vote bank intact.

Jagan Mohan Reddy who started giving importance to the BCs too, along with the SCs, STs and Minorities, had completely set his eyes on the BCs now, if one goes by the composition of the new cabinet. The BCs were given the lion’s share in the cabinet and were given prime portfolios only to erase the TDP’s vote base.

BCs are committed voters and they don’t go by the trend. In fact, the permanent vote that the TDP gets in every election comes from these BC sections. It may not be easy for Jagan Mohan Reddy to draw these strongholds of the vote bank from the TDP.

It is to be seen how tough it is going to be for Jagan Mohan Reddy to get the TDP’s vote base erased and the YSR Congress gaining it.

BC ministers meet Sajjala as YCP eyes on BC votes

0

The ruling YSR Congress is getting into the election mode if the party programmes are any indication. The party is leaving no stone unturned to woo the voters and ensure that the good will among the people is intact even for the 2024 elections.

In the process, BC ministers from the Jagan Mohan Reddy cabinet met government advisor and party general secretary Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy at Tadepalli on Thursday. Ministers Dharmana Prasada Rao, Botsa Satyanarayana, Chelluboyina Venugopala Krishna, Seedri Appala Raju and Sankara Narayana, had a long discussion with Sajjala.

Sources say that the Ministers and Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy have planned to organise district level meetings for the BCs. They have planned to organise the meeting in every district covering all the 26 districts. Later, they would have regional meetings.

Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy would be addressing the regional meetings and the state level meeting of the BCs. This state level event is likely to be held either in December this year or January in 2023.

The party leaders have decided to explain to the people the number of welfare programmes that the government implemented during the last three years despite the covid pandemic. They would also explain to the people that for the first time the government had constituted 56 corporations for all the 139 sub-castes.

The YSR Congress wants to drive home these points clearly and retain its BC vote bank. As the party will not be able to hold such conventions in the election year, 2024, the leaders are preparing the ground this year.

This MP too is unhappy in YSRCP

1

One more MP in YSRCP is said to be fretting and fuming. He is deeply unhappy with the way the party leadership is putting spokes in his businesses. He is sulking because he has no problems in his business elsewhere, but in AP, which is his own state, there are problems and problems.

Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy is said to be very upset these days. This liquor baron has businesses spread all over south India. While there is no problem for him in other South Indian states, he is finding the going very tough in AP. Not just that! His own party members are trying to create hurdles and hit his businesses. He tried to take the issue to the notice of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, but to no avail.

Magunta has another problem these days. He wants to promote his son Raghava Reddy. Raghava has already set up an NGO and is doing some social service. Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy wants Raghava to be the party candidate for the next election from Giddalur assembly constituency. However, district minister Balineni Srinivas Reddy too has plans for Giddalur. He wants to make his son Praneeth Reddy as the YSRCP candidate from Giddaluru.

Now, Balineni is a close relative of YS Jagan and has Jagan’s ears. His being in the cabinet is an additional advantage for him. So, he is able to push the case of his son unlike Magunta, who is unable to meet YS Jagan as often as Balineni does.

The differences between the two leaders came to the fore recently when a Covid centre was inaugurated. Magunta is said to have expressed his anger over the way he was being slighted in the party. The ball is now in YS Jagan’s court and one has to wait and see how Jagan handles these two titans and irons out their differences.

Anandaiah eye medicine at the mercy of YCP MLAs

2

In the initial days, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu took keen interest and asked ICMR scientists to visit the Nellore district to find out the efficacy of the Anandaiah eye drops to treat Covid patients. There were hopes that the ICMR team would visit and approve his medicine so that more patients would get the much needed cure.

In the last few days however, the situation totally changed. First the officials intervened and stalled the Anandaiah medicine saying there were Government orders. Simultaneously, the local YSRCP MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy announced that the Government itself would supply the medicine to all the needy. Chandragiri MLA Chevireddy Bhasker Reddy also led a delegation of the ayurvedic doctors from Tirupati to conduct a study.

Finally, as the people were eagerly waiting for the visit of the ICMR scientists, the YSRCP MLAs gave the breaking news that there was no need for that visit any longer. It was because the AP Government had taken the Ayush experts’ report as sole and final.

The ruling party MLAs are saying that the Government is positively considering to approve the Anandaiah eye drops for administering to the patients. They say the patients need not come from far off places since the Government would send the medicine to them by post.

Pawan blames YCP leaders for oxygen shortage

12

Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan has made a scathing attack on the Jaganmohan Reddy Government on the issue of problems of the Coronavirus patients in AP. He has expressed concern that the common people were not able to access oxygen, hospital beds and ventilators.

Senanit made an outright attack, saying that the YCP leaders and their relatives were reserving oxygen, beds and everything at the hospitals for themselves. They were resorting to these heartless and ruthless activities without realising how much suffering was being caused to the needy patients coming from poorer sections.

Pawan deplored that even the Covid vaccines were being given to only those who were favourable to the YCP. This was atrocious and objectionable especially at a time when the infections were posing a lifetime danger. The Jana Sena would continue to condemn these cruel policies of the YCP regime.

Each day, the opponents of CM Jagan are raising their dissenting voices over the epidemic problems. Rebel MP Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju said that the Government has no funds to buy vaccines even as lots of funds were being wasted for the Rs. 6 Cr bullet proof car and helicopter visits of CM Jagan.

YCP-TDP blame game begins on Sangam dairy

1

The arrest of Sangam Dairy Chairman Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar has triggered mutual allegations between the YCP and the TDP on a variety of issues. Immediately after the arrest, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu termed it as a conspiracy of the Jagan regime to hand over Sangam dairy as a whole to the Amul industry. Not just this, even the other cooperative dairies in Vijayawada and Vizag were being handed over to Amul on a golden platter.

On their party, the YCP leaders launched counter allegations saying that it was the TDP leaders who were robbing dairy farmers through the cooperative dairies. YCP MLA Kilari Rosaiah said that the TDP leaders looted 75 acres of land by creating false documents in the Sangam dairy.

The YCP MLA further asserted that their Chief Minister was trying to increase incomes for AP dairy farmers with the help of Amul industry. Whereas, the TDP leaders used the farmers cooperatives for their personal interests.

On the other hand, the TDP began blaming the Jagan Reddy Government for ‘handing over’ the AP wealth to the Gujarat-based companies. This is being done only to secure the favours from the Prime Minister to protect the AP CM from the illegal assets cases in the CBI and ED.

TDP-Cong cry over fake voters but BJP-JSP cool

2

The polling day began in Tirupati with the TDP making serious allegations against the YCP on the issue of outsiders and fake voters. The Congress also started attacking the YCP on this issue. These parties say that the outsiders arrived in tourist buses from the Rayalaseema districts. They were camping in the function halls and buildings belonging to the YCP leaders in the temple town and also in other parts of the parliamentary segment.

On their part, the BJP-Jana Sena leaders have remained silent. Till yesterday, the BJP ran the campaign by targeting the TDP and the YCP equally. On the other hand, the TDP leaders are blaming the election authorities and the police for not taking any action against the outsiders illegally entering the polling booths. The Tirupati SP is not responding to the Opposition complaints and there has been no required police presence in the troublesome areas.

Congress nominee Chinta Mohan has gone a step ahead, saying that the YCP has brought outsiders from Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool and such places. These outsiders are illegally casting the votes of local people. The Chief Minister and the Ministers are involved in this illegal activity.

Going by the serious concerns, the TDP and the Congress seemed to have lost hopes on positive polling for them. No wonder, the YCP nominee would get more votes than expected.

Tirupati bypoll: Main fight between YCP and TDP

3

The election campaign has come to an end and the battlelines are finally drawn for the Tirupati by-election. It is just one more day for the polling. The YSRCP is trying hard to retain the seat. The TDP, the BJP and the Congress are making their best efforts to defeat YCP nominee Dr. Gurumurthy. The two national parties, the BJP and the Congress, have failed to make much progress in the initial stages of campaigning itself.

As a result, the main fight now appears to be between the YCP and the TDP. The ruling party and the main opposition party are locked in a near battle royal. Over eight to nine Ministers are camping in the assembly segments assigned to them to ensure the victory of Dr. Gurumurthy. The YCP’s sole focus is on winning the seat with a good majority with a tight grip over the voters through the volunteers.

CM Jagan Reddy has cancelled his election meeting and wrote letters to the voters. The volunteers have handed over these letters to all the voters. On its part, the TDP had Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh taking part in a hectic campaign for over a week. They highlighted the Government’s failures, the unresolved Viveka murder case, the increasing State debts and the CM’s anti-people policies.

The YCP has first aimed at 3 to 5 lakh majority but now the situation has turned tough. Analysts say that the YCP may get less than one lakh majority. If it got less than 50,000 majority, then it is a vote against the Jagan regime.

YCP targets Naidu-Pawan on Special Status

2

The YCP election campaign has slowed down a bit ever since Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy cancelled his April 14 public meeting in Tirupati. The local leaders, MLAs and Ministers are campaigning locally. But their campaign is not matching with that being carried out by Chandrababu Naidu and Lokesh themselves. The Sakshi media is doing its bit to attack the Opposition with its stinging articles everyday.

The latest attack by the YCP and the Sakshi media on the TDP is regarding the so called ‘secret deals’ between the TDP and the Jana Sena. The ruling party is asserting that Chandrababu Naidu and Pawan Kalyan are not criticising each other in the present election campaign. They owed an explanation to the public.

The YCP leaders are asking why Naidu and Pawan are not questioning the BJP leaders on the issue of Special Category Status promise made to AP. It was a fact that in the 2014 election, Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan shared dais with PM Modi all across the State. At that time, Modi and BJP leaders repeatedly made promises on the Special Status.

Instead of bringing pressure on the Modi regime, the TDP and the Jana Sena are bringing pressure on the YCP regime in AP. In final analysis, it is clear that Special Status has just become an empty election issue that will remain an unfulfilled dream for the AP people.

BJP-YCP bid to split Hindu votes in Tirupati bypoll

2

The BJP has adopted a two-pronged strategy to get maximum votes in the Tirupati by election. Its first aim is to use the Pawan Kalyan following to polarise the Kapu and the youth vote banks. The second objective is to split the Hindu votes to the maximum possible extent. The present bypoll is certainly going to be a big test to the BJP’s future chances and dreams for a stronger foothold in AP.

As such, BJP Political Affairs Committee Chairman IYR Krishna Rao has taken it upon himself the task of attacking CM Jagan Reddy along religious lines. He has launched a direct attack in current election campaign, saying that Mr. Jagan Reddy is giving freedom and space only for the other religion in the State. This Chief Minister is not allowing the Hindu organisations to grow or expand in any manner.

In the face of such outright attacks, the YCP is using its power to make the TTD priests voice their support for their party candidate. TTD Chief Priest Ramana Deekshitulu has been indirectly campaigning for the YSRCP nominee. He has even compared the CM to Lord Vishnu who gets reborn to re-establish dharma in the world.

The YCP leaders are confident that they will win even without a good chunk of the Hindu votes. But if the Hindu voters also supported in a big way because of the welfare benefits, then its candidate would be sure to get historic majority.

‘Boycott politics’ dominate Tirupati poll campaign

The rival parties began to challenge each other to boycott the Tirupati byelection if they have no faith in the system. It all started with Chandrababu Naidu’s boycott call on the parishad elections. The moment he announced this, the YCP began saying that the TDP is a sinking ship and it has no political relevance.

The YCP leaders are now asking why Mr. Naidu is not boycotting the Tirupati bypoll as well. It is better for the TDP chief to step aside since his party is sure to meet with humiliating defeat just like in the 2019 polls, local body and municipal body polls this year. The BJP too joined chorus and suggested the TDP quit the election.

On their part, the TDP leaders mounted a stinging attack, saying that it was CM Jagan Reddy who has no moral right to contest any election for that matter. The Chief Minister insulted the voters and boycotted the Assembly for over 3 years. He remained on the roads in the name of the Padayatra. He should have been in jail if not granted bail in the illegal assets cases. Moreover, the TDP has no faith in State Election Commissioner Nilam Sawhney only and has confidence in the bypoll.

The TDP leaders are also questioning the relevance of the BJP candidate in the Tirupati fight. It was well known that the BJP got less than one percent vote share in 2019. The BJP has a hidden agenda rather than making a genuine effort to win the support of the people.

It’s YCP volunteers versus TDP booth committees

0

The battle lines are drawn for the April 17 Tirupati bypoll. There will be no big rallies, no massive public meetings and no hype on road shows. This time, the whole focus is on door to door campaigns aimed at having a personal touch with the voters at the individual level.

Both the YCP and the TDP have chosen to put spotlight on the micro level management of the voters. Already, the ruling YCP has huge support from the volunteers network. Each volunteer is assigned around 50 families which means they will be having full details about nearly 200 voters. In the local body elections, the YCP leaders used volunteers effectively to keep a close watch on the voters mood and to make sure they vote for their party.

Faced with no alternative, the TDP has been forced to develop a strong system for itself to counter the impact of the volunteers on the voters. As such, the whole TDP leadership put special focus on reviving and activating booth committees. Each committee is assigned the task of covering over 100 families. What more, the booth committees will also visit each voter’s family about 10 times to raise awareness on over ten topics.

While the YCP and the TDP are focusing on village and ward level management of election, the BJP and the Jana Sena are still banking on star campaigners like Pawan Kalyan, Bandi Sanjay, etc.

After Kuppam, YCP targets Naidu native village

2

YCP Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy and MLA Chevireddy Bhasker Reddy have used all sorts of power politics to defeat TDP in Chandrababu Naidu’s Kuppam segment panchayat elections. Now, their eyes have fallen on Naidu’s native village Naravaripalle. It falls under the Chandragiri assembly segment which is represented by Chevireddy.

The YCP leaders and the Sakshi media have launched multifarious attacks now on Naidu’s village. They have given all round publicity on how Naidu has suffered serious reverses in his own native segment. Now, their game plan is to get maximum votes in Naravaripalle in order to highlight this in social media.

Already, the Sakshi media has begun saying that Chandrababu Naidu was resorting to unfair politics to protect his party in his village. It says the TDP leaders are going to each and every household distributing inducements. Already, cookers have been distributed in every house. Once again, sarees and Rs. 5,000 cash are being distributed now.

Sakshi says that Naidu is resorting to this after facing embarrassment in Kuppam. Whether it is true or not, the YCP is giving sleepless nights to the TDP chief even in the panchayat polls.

Finally, YCP MPs to meet Amit Shah over Visakha Steel

1

All round criticism has forced Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy to finally send his party MPs to meet Union Minister Amit Shah on the issue of Visakha Steel Plant privatisation. Till now, the CM has not opened his mouth to convey his views to the public. Vijay Sai Reddy’s initial remarks have gone into the public that the YCP is not much interested in the agitation. Later, reports came out that Jagan Reddy held talks with Posco in 2019 itself.

As a result, there has been rising criticism against the YCP 28 MPs in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for not making any efforts in Delhi to save the steel plant. As such, all these ruling party MPs are going to meet Amit Shah to discuss the issue today.

On the other hand, TDP Gajuwaka Ex MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao began his indefinite hunger strike. The steel plant falls under the Gajuwaka segment. Also, Vizag North MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao is going to start his own protest camp near the steel plant from today.

Retired civil servants like Lok Satta Jayaprakash Narayan and JD Lakshminarayana have stressed the need for strong agitation to get a better deal for AP. On its part, the TDP is saying that the privatisation should be stopped altogether since the steel plant has been a matter of strong sentiment for the Andhra people.
Jana Senani Pawan Kalyan has already the Union Ministers and expressed his views against the privatisation. The BJP AP leaders have also opposed the sale but are not able to actively join the protests. Obviously, the agitation is unstoppable.

YSRCP not putting pressure on Centre on Vizag steel plant: TDP

1

The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Thursday accused the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh of “playing a dubious role” and not putting pressure on the Centre to stall the ongoing privatisation of the Vizag steel plant.

“The steel plant should remain in government control, considering how Andhra people waged prolonged agitations and farmers gave away thousands of acres of their ancestral lands. The Jagan Moharn Reddy regime is playing a dubious role in the whole privatisation plan,” claimed TDP national General Secretary Nara Lokesh

The opposition leader claimed that the people of Visakhapatnam would chase away senior YSRCP leader and Rajya Sabha member V Vijayasai Reddy due to his attempts to undermine the agitations on the issue.

“When plant employees and the people were rising up in massive protests, Sai was bold enough to say that he cannot give an assurance to the agitators but only get an appointment with the Prime Minister,” the TDP supremo’s son said.

Branding Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders as “fake”, Lokesh alleged that they were issuing false statements to demotivate people.

According to the TDP leader, YSRCP candidates would lose their security deposits in the next Assembly elections if they failed to fight against the ongoing privatisation.

He said that the TDP would support the agitations to bring all possible pressure on the state and central governments.

Former TDP MLA from Gajuwaka, Palla Srinivasa Rao, has already begun a hunger strike against the plant’s privatisation.

Lokesh claimed that the TDP had bagged 38 per cent of the seats in the first phase of the four-phased rural local bodies’ elections, despite all-round attacks by YSRCP.

“The YSRCP tried to win the polls through threats, kidnappings, tearing of nomination papers etc due to fear of losing. The YSRCP leaders even sent WhatsApp messages to voters to threaten withdrawal of pensions and house site pattas if they did not vote for the YSRCP,” he claimed.

Referring to TDP state President Kinjarapu Atchannaidu’s arrest, Lokesh said that he was sent to jail even though he did not issue threats to rival candidate in Nimmada village. On the other hand, he alleged, Kannababu Raju who was aligned with YSRCP openly threatened an opposition candidate but was given station bail.

On Thursday, Lokesh visited Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple in Mangalagiri town and inaugurated a health camp of Lakshminarasimha goldsmiths welfare society.

He announced Rs 5 lakh financial support for the welfare of goldsmiths and promised them continuous TDP support.

YCP-TDP force Ramesh to open Call Centre

0

The post of the State Election Commissioner (SEC) has fallen into an unenviable position in Andhra Pradesh. SEC Ramesh Kumar has been fighting like a one man army against the YCP Ministers and MLAs. Now, even Chandrababu Naidu has launched attacks on Ramesh Kumar for not preventing the YCP attacks and atrocities in the first phase panchayat elections. Naidu has threatened to go to the court on countless illegalities.

Amid the threats from both the ruling and opposition parties, Ramesh Kumar has decided to monitor complaints himself personally. He has launched a Call Centre at 08662466877 at the SEC office. He specifically selected some staff to take each and every complaint in detail.

Not only that, Ramesh Kumar has decided to himself closely monitor the complaints round the clock. He has told his staff to send the complaints immediately to the respective District Collectors, SPs and Returning Officers for taking necessary action.

Ramesh started the Call Centre in the face of strong criticism from the Opposition over unchecked election offences by the ruling party leaders. There was also the threat of many aggrieved candidates to file petitions in the courts. Already, the SEC is dragged into many cases in the court by the ruling YCP.

Instant bail to YCP MLA but certain jail to rival leaders

3

It came as breaking news that the AP Police had arrested YCP MLA Kannababu Raju in the absence of any choice. The next moment, it was disclosed that the arrested YCP MLA was released on bail. The arrest and the bail grant all happened in no time. The lightning speed at which the AP Police worked in this case came as a surprise in the midst of the election process. The same police made serious charges and put TDP AP President Atchannaidu in jail.

In fact, the audio went viral three days ago showing YCP MLA threatening a ward member in panchayat polls. The victim complained to the Ramballi police. The matter also came to the notice of the State Election Commission. Left with no choice, the police filed the case.

As the election offences were being treated seriously by the SEC, the police had finally arrested the YCP MLA. Immediately, he was given station bail.
Practically speaking, all the Government departments appear to be following the SEC orders. There are doubts whether they are really serious in preventing election offences. Especially, the police are finding their own ways to please the ruling party leaders even during the election time. This is giving enormous stress to the local level Opposition cadres.

AP High Court’s another blow to YCP on panchayat polls

1

The High Court of Andhra Pradesh has given one more shock to the ruling YCP on the issue of the panchayat elections. It has summarily rejected the petition filed by a person seeking cancellation of the panchayat elections. The petitioner’s advocate argued that over 3.6 lakh young people were not able to vote since the authorities could not prepare the 2021 voters lists. As a result, the State Election Commission (SEC) went ahead with the polls based on the 2019 electoral rolls.

The petitioner also contended that SEC Ramesh Kumar would have postponed till the latest 2021 rolls were available. It was unethical on the part of the SEC to go ahead with the polls without giving voting rights to the youngsters.
However, after hearing the arguments, the High Court expressed its helplessness at this stage and it would not be able to interfere with the election process which had already begun. The court rejected the plea for stalling the panchayat elections and dismissed the petition. The court has also rejected another petition which has made a similar argument.

From day one, the YCP has been moving earth and heaven to postpone the panchayat elections till after SEC Ramesh Kumar’s retirement in March-end. Somehow, the circumstances were not favourable to the Jagan regime while Ramesh Kumar was having the last laugh all the time.

High tension at Ramatheertham amid YCP-TDP-BJP protests

1

Ramatheertham temple area turned into a battle zone due to gathering of huge crowds there. Activists of YCP, TDP, BJP and Hindu organisations thronged the temple. Hindu devotees raised slogans Jai Sriram and protested against the YCP leaders for creating disturbances at the temple.

The BJP leaders turned angry at the police for blocking them from going to the temple while allowing YCP MP Vijay Sai Reddy and his party leaders. Unexpectedly, very huge crowds gathered at the temple in view of the visit of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu. TDP activists kept raising slogans in favour of Mr. Naidu and against Vijay Sai Reddy visit.

At one time, the TDP activists turned angry and pelted chappals and stones at the Vijay Sai Reddy convoy. A windowpane was broken in the incident. The police found it difficult to manage the crowd. The arrival of Vijay Sai Reddy simultaneously with Mr. Naidu created disturbances at the temple premises.

The police also did not give permission to the BJP and Hindu leaders to go to the temple in view of Vijay Sai’s visit. They raised slogans in protest against the YCP on the occasion.

YCP MLA, her follower fear life threats from each other

0

Tadikonda YCP MLA Vundavalli Sridevi has complained to the Guntur police saying that she has a life threat from one S. Sandeep who was recently dismissed from the ruling party. She said that ever since she was facing life threat ever since the police raided the gambling dens and removed them in the constituency. The police immediately filed cases at the Tullur and the Guntur police stations.

As a result, Sandeep has to flee his native village and he has been absconding for the last ten days. In fact, till this clash surfaced, he was one of the right hand followers of the MLA. After these cases and after how Sandeep fled his home, it took the ruling party leaders and activists by surprise now.

Now, Sandeep, who is on the run from police, released a latest selfie video, saying that he was facing the life threat from MLA Sridevi. It is because of the MLA that he has to go absconding while his family members and parents are suffering for lack of his presence.

Sandeep further appealed to the Chief Minister to rescue him and his family from the life threat. He told the CM that he had helped Sridevi to get loans at the time of elections. But now, she is not willing to pay them back. Just for asking for repayments, the MLA got him implicated. He said that only CM can rescue him. Not just the Opposition activists, even the YCP followers will face the same fate if they turn against the MLAs in any manner.
