Make YS Bharathi as AP CM: BJP strange demand!

1

The BJP’s Andhra Pradesh unit has come out with a strange demand on Sunday.

AP BJP leader and former MLA Vishnu Kumar Raju demanded that YS Bharathi, the wife of AP CM YS Jaganmohan Reddy should be made the CM of Andhra Pradesh immediately to bring some ‘change’ in administration.

Raju demanded YS Jagan to quit his CM post and make his wife Bharathi as CM.

Raju said Jagan failed on all fronts as CM and due to Jagan’s inefficiency, people in every household in AP were facing several problems.

Raju said Jagan completely mishandled Covid in AP due to which patients are struggling to get treatment, beds, ventilators, ICU beds in hospitals and also there is severe shortage of vaccines.

As Jagan failed to deliver, it’s better he quit from CM post and handover reins to his wife Bharathi to bring some reforms and change in administration.

He hoped that Bharathi might bring some change in administration and offer good governance to people.

After HC order, Andhra ambulances passing freely to Telangana

1

Ambulance vehicles making their way to Hyderabad with Covid patients from Andhra Pradesh, are being allowed to cross the border into Telangana since Friday night. The development comes in the wake of the Telangana High Court’s interim order barring the state government from stopping such vehicles at the border.

On Saturday, Telangana police personnel at the Andhra Pradesh borders, allowed patients not having the required permissions, to cross over after registering their details.

On Friday, two patients from Andhra Pradesh died in the ambulance vehicles they were traveling in, at the inter-state border near Kurnool. Telangana Police did not permit vehicles without valid online permits to cross the border.

At least 40 ambulances from Andhra Pradesh were forced to return back from the Pullur toll plaza since Thursday when they tried to cross the state border on the way to Hyderabad. A similar situation played out at the Ramapuram cross border post near Suryapet.

Telangana officials were claiming that large number of patients arriving from neighbouring states, particularly Andhra Pradesh, is putting pressure on bed availability and medical care in the state capital.

However, the Telangana High Court, on Friday, issued orders staying the state government’s guidelines on entry of Covid ambulances from other states.

The Court took up the matter for hearing after a retired IRS officer Venkata Krishna Rao filed a petition on Friday, that ambulances are being stopped or turned back, at the border, by Telangana Police.

2 covid patients die as Telangana Police turn back Andhra ambulances

1

In a tragic turn of events, two patients from Andhra Pradesh died in the ambulance vehicles they were traveling in, as Telangana Police did not permit vehicles without valid online permits to cross the interstate border at Kurnool. The development took place at the Panchalingala checkpost on National Highway 44, on Friday.

The two persons who died on Friday, were identified as natives of Nandyal and Kurnool respectively.

At least 40 ambulances from Andhra Pradesh were forced to return back from the Pullur toll plaza since Thursday when they tried to cross the state border on the way to Hyderabad. A similar situation played out at the Ramapuram cross border post near Suryapet.

While Telangana police officials said that ambulances not carrying the required online permits, were barred from entering, kin of some the patients said that even those with permits issued by the Andhra Pradesh police were forcibly turned back.

With covid cases on the rise in Andhra Pradesh, many critically ill patients are being taken to Hyderabad, which in turn is putting pressure on bed availability and medical care in the state capital.

Telangana Police have been directed to allow entry into the state, only for patients who have the requisite e-permit, and confirmation from the hospital.

Since Sunday, the interstate border crossings at Pullur near Kurnool, and Ramapuram cross at Suryapet, havr been witnessing poignant scenes of patients’ kin pleading with Telangana police to allow their vehicles entry.

The developments at the border have elicited sharp reactions from public and politicians in Andhra Pradesh.

AP to challenge Telangana orders in court: Covid

1

In the face of rising criticism, the YCP Government has decided to challenge the KCR regime’s orders not to allow AP Covid patients to come to Hyderabad. AP CM’s Advisor Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy has said that they will fight a legal battle so as to ensure justice to the AP patients.

Sajjala further said that the AP patients were going for better treatment to Chennai and Bangalore also but there were no problems from those State Governments. The problems were arising only on the border with Telangana. It was unfortunate the neighbouring State was keen to safeguard the interests of only its patients.

Raising the Reorganisation issues, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy deplored that the present problems were coming up in AP because of improper separation of the Telugu States. All those areas without any infrastructure were given to Andhra Pradesh while those with better and advanced facilities were given to Telangana.

Sajjala also blamed Chandrababu Naidu for the non-construction of super specialty hospitals in AP during the first five years of the State. If he had done that, the AP patients would have faced the present troubles.

Jagan asks universities to aim at national rankings

Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has given specific tasks to the AP universities to achieve higher standards in education in the State. He reviewed the higher education sector when he asked the Vice Chancellors to come out with a special plan to move up in the national level rankings.

The CM stressed the need for every university in AP to make all efforts and stand in the top 10 list in the country. The AP universities should focus on improving their facilities and achieve better rankings in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

As of now, the Andhra University in Vizag stood in the 19th place in NIFR rankings followed by the Sri Venkateswara University in the 38th place. The CM asked the officials to make such efforts that these two universities should improve their rankings significantly.

Mr. Jagan Reddy said the standards should be upgraded at the JNTU campuses at Kakinada and Anantapur, at AU, SVU, Padmavati Mahila University and also at the IIITs. Special focus should be placed on the Architecture University coming up at Kadapa.

Jagan turns to Navy for help with oxygen supply chain

1

At a virtual meeting with the district collectors on Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that although the state government may not be directly responsible for the Ruia Hospital tragedy in Tirupati, the unfortunate incident cannot be denied.

Tragedy struck the well-known Ruia Hospital in Tirupati on Monday night when 11 Covid patients lost their lives due to an interruption in oxygen supply.
The Chief Minister said that measures are being taken to prevent a repeat of such mishaps.

“We have already sought the help of the Eastern Naval Command to oversee the oxygen supply chain and to ensure its adequate supply to the hospitals. To overcome the technical problems relating to oxygen supply, four Navy teams have already been deployed at various hospitals to inspect and give relevant suggestions and recommendations,” Reddy said.

The Ruia Hospital tragedy happened due to a few minutes of disruption in oxygen supply, as the tankers transporting oxygen from neighbouring Tamil Nadu were slightly delayed.

Expressing anguish over the death of 11 persons at the hospital in Tirupati, Reddy announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the families of each of the victims.

He also said a thorough probe has been ordered into the incident.

AP asking for vaccines, oxygen but Modi ‘helpless’

1

For various reasons, the Andhra Pradesh Government has become heavily dependent on the Centre for taking up Covid relief activities. Its financial condition has deteriorated over the last two years because of collapse of the construction industry, stalling of Polavaram and Capital City works and also impact of Covid lockdowns.

The fate of other States is no different but their economy is not so into a crisis that AP is in. Amid this, AP CM Jaganmohan Reddy, his Chief Secretary and his Ministers have repeatedly urged the Centre for greater help to the State. The Centre allocated 480 metric tonnes of oxygen for AP on April 24 itself. That has proved to be largely insufficient. Now, the State Government is asking for at least 910 metric tonnes but the Centre has become helpless considering the rising demand in all other States as well.

On the other hand, the vaccination situation is also becoming alarming in AP. The State Government is mostly dependent on the free vaccine supply from the Centre. Whereas, the Modi Government has left it to the respective States themselves in April itself to buy vaccines directly from the manufacturers to meet their overall demand.

In the second wave, PM Modi has transferred the burden more on to the States considering the limitations of his regime to deal with the needs of 130 crore population in the country. If AP can’t generate its own resources, its people are sure to suffer for lack of vaccines and oxygen and also medicines.

Telangana HC questions stoppage of ambulances from Andhra

0

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday pulled up state authorities for stopping ambulances carrying Covid-19 patients from Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad.

The court took serious note of reports that Covid patients coming to Hyderabad for treatment were stopped at inter-state border and were turned away.

A division bench of Chief Justice Hima Kohli and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy questioned the authorities as to how can they stop ambulances when there are no restrictions on inter-state movement.

“Is this humanity,” the court asked. It wanted to know who gave the order to stop ambulances.

The court on Tuesday took up hearing of petitions relating to Covid situation in Telangana. Police commissioners of Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda and commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) appeared before the court.

The court voiced its unhappiness over ineffective implementation of night curfew. The bench wondered if the state government plans to take further measures for Covid control after Ramzan.

It wanted to know why the gatherings at religious places were not being controlled.

The court expressed disappointment over the drop in number of Covid tests. It observed that while the court is directing for ramping up testing, the authorities are further cutting down on the numbers. It remarked that flouting court order is unfortunate and warned that officials may have to face contempt of court proceedings.

Advocate General Prasad informed the court that the state cabinet is meeting Tuesday afternoon to take decision on Covid control measures. The bench asked him to convey its concern to the cabinet.

The court asked the government to submit a report with details of all proposed Covid control measures. It adjourned the hearing till the cabinet meeting.

The cabinet meeting to be presided over by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao will discuss that the surge in the Covid cases and take a decision on the imposition of lockdown in the State.

“There are reports that suggest that despite certain states imposing the lockdown there is no decrease in the number of cases. Against this backdrop, different opinions are emerging on the lockdown. Some sections are arguing in favour of the imposition of lockdown. Under these circumstances, the State cabinet would discuss the pros and cons and also the adverse impact the lockdown may have on the ongoing procurement of the Paddy and it will take a decision,” said Chief Minister’s Office on Monday.

Hyderabad still joint capital, YCP MLA reminds KCR

The stopping of AP ambulances on the Telangana border triggered a lot of concern from all sides. YCP MLA Samineni Udayabhanu has strongly objected to the KCR Government taking such a painful decision. As tens of ambulances were stopped on the AP-Telangana border, the AP Covid patients and others were facing a harrowing time.

The YCP MLA termed it as immoral on the part of Telangana. They should know that Hyderabad was still the joint capital of both the Telugu States. The AP patients had a right to come to Hyderabad for better treatment. The Telangana Government should act in a humanitarian manner.

Mr. Udayabhanu has said that they have asked the Telangana police for permission to the AP ambulances. The Covid patients can go for treatment anywhere in the country. The Central Government has also submitted an affidavit to this effect in the Supreme Court already.
Meanwhile, the Telangana police are not giving entry for the AP Covid patients even though they were saying they have been alloted beds in the Hyderabad hospitals.

No entry for AP Covid patients into Telangana

Both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have not gone for lockdown. This is despite over 26 other States having opted for this. They included Tamil Nadu. Covid patients from AP are right now going to Chennai, Hyderabad and Bangalore for better treatment at corporate hospitals.

But, all of a sudden, the KCR Government has taken a decision not to allow AP Covid patients to enter Telangana. As a result, the ambulances bringing patients from AP are being stopped and asked to return to AP. Because of lockdown in TN and Karnataka, the AP patients are already finding it difficult to reach hospitals there.

For various reasons, the Telangana Government is apprehensive about allowing AP patients to reach Hyderabad. There are already fears that the high contagious mutants are spreading all over.

Amid many uncertainties, Telangana has banned Covid patients coming from Andhra. Reports say that there might be more valid reasons for the latest decision of the TRS regime. Whatever, the AP people will face rough weather till the deadly second wave eases in the next one or two months.

Meanwhile 22,164 new covid cases were detected during the same period.

AP Police didn’t issue notices to Naidu

4

The AP Police created much hype and showed paper clippings how ex CM Chandrababu Naidu committed a crime by spreading panic over N440K. A team of the Kurnool police in fact set out to give a notice to Naidu in Hyderabad. But soon, they returned without giving any notice and there was suspense now on the Naidu case.

Not just Naidu, many people expressed concern over N440K at that particular time. YCP Fisheries Minister Seediri Appala Raju spoke live on a TV debate on how N440K originated in Kurnool and wreaked havoc all over. Based on this video, the TDP leaders in Kurnool made counter complaints and demanded criminal cases to be filed against the Minister just like how they did to Mr. Naidu. Kurnool SP Fakkeerappa, who spoke tough the other day, had to fall silent too.

Undoubtedly, the Jagan Reddy Government moved hastily and tried to embarrass Naidu by taking advantage of the N440K controversy. Without cross checking the scope for filing a criminal case, the AP Police went ahead, booked the case simply based on a stray complaint and created media hype. So much tension was created there were rumours that this time, Jagan Reddy would use this chance fully to put the TDP chief behind the bars for a few days.

But eventually, it turned out that the case against Naidu would not stand legally considering the fact that the YCP Minister himself made similar comments. The national media also published similar stories. Even the Supreme Court has told the State Governments to allow the political leaders to share their opinions on the Coronavirus.

AP e-pass for inter-state travel from Monday

3

AP DGP Gautam Sawang has announced stricter measures to deal with the Covid problem. He has asked the people to make use of the e-pass facility from Monday if they are required to do emergency travel to the neighbouring States. The e-pass facility can be accessed through the Police Seva app.

Actually, Tamil Nadu has made it mandatory for those coming from AP to take e-pass. Also, other States have restricted access to travellers from AP on their borders. As a result, the AP people going to the respective states are facing lots of problems. Moreover, the Covid second wave is only rising but not showing any signs of giving an early relief.

Amid this, the AP Police have no option but to start the e-pass facility immediately for the convenience of its citizens. This will help many Covid patients who are going to Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad for better treatment.

Mr. Gautam Sawang has also indicated that a final decision whether to continue the 18-hour curfew after May 18 or not would be taken only after reviewing the Covid situation at that time. Till then, there will be no permission for political or private meetings. For functions, they should take prior permission from the local officials.

Mr. Sawang said that section 144 would be in effect all over AP till further orders.

Andhra sets up high-level probe into limestone quarry tragedy

4

The Andhra Pradesh government has instituted a high-level enquiry into Saturday’s explosion that rocked a limestone quarry in Kadapa district, leaving 10 people dead, and several others critically injured.

The state’s Minister for Mines and Geology, Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy stated on Sunday that a committee comprising of five departments, has been set up for the purpose.

The inquiry committee, headed by the Kadapa district joint collector (revenue), will submit its report to the government within five days he added.

The minister said that a sum of Rs 10 lakh is being sanctioned as ex gratia to families of each of the deceased, while those injured will be given Rs 5 lakh each.

Pointing out that the tragedy occurred because adequate safety precautions were not observed while unloading the explosives, the minister stated that action will be initiated against the mine’s leaseholder.

The incident had occurred near Mamillapalle village in Kalasapadu mandal when the labourers were unloading gelatin stick from a vehicle for using them at a limestone mine.

Such was the impact of the explosion that the body parts of the deceased were blown apart and the vehicle was completely burnt.

The workers hailing from Kalasapadu and Pulivendula mandals were carrying gelatin sticks for blasting the rocks at the mine.

TDP urges Jagan to declare journalists Covid warriors

1

TDP Repalle MLA Anagani Satya Prasad took up the cause of protecting the rights of journalists in the Corona time. He wrote a letter to Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy, urging for declaring the journalists as the Coronavirus warriors in Andhra Pradesh. Orissa, Kerala, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other States have already done it. The AP Government should give accreditations to all the working journalists and provide them vaccines and medical facilities to survive the virus threat.

Over 7,000 journalists were working all over the State in both the print and electronic media. Now, the journalists associations were not able to fight for the rights of their members since they were removed from the accreditation committees at the State and the district levels. Since the YCP came to power in 2019, the accreditations were not being given to these journalists. Tough rules were introduced to deny accreditations in the name of circulation figures. Over 60 journalists died due to the Corona infections during the second wave alone. Hundreds of journalists and their families were admitted to hospitals and unable to pay huge amounts.

The TDP MLA demanded the Government to give vaccine and medicines to the journalists immediately. At least Rs. 2 lakh financial support should be provided to the infected journalists’ families. The Government should give Rs. 20,000 financial assistance to every journalist’s family to help deal with the epidemic threat. The mediapersons were risking their lives to continue to work in their line of duty. Oxygen supply, ventilators and hospitals beds should be specially allotted for the journalists who were on duty in every district.

MEIL to supply 600 free oxygen cylinders to hospitals in Telangana, Andhra

0

Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL) has come forward to augment supply of oxygen by 35 lakhs litres per day in Covid-hit Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The company will be offering free supply of medical oxygen B type cylinders free of cost to match the increasing number of Covid patients who are in dire need of oxygen. It has submitted its proposal to the Telangana government.

MEIL is planning to supply 500 to 600 oxygen cylinders per day with each cylinder having a capacity of 7,000 litres. The total quantum of supply of oxygen thus will be around 35,00,000 litres.

MEIL has received request to refill oxygen cylinders from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (50 cylinders), Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital (200), Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences (100) and Hyderabad Care Hi-tech hospital (50). These hospitals have augmented their Covid bed strength based on the spurt in cases.

On the other hand, MEIL, with the technical support of DRDO, is planning to construct 30-40 oxygen generation plants. Each plant can generate 150-1000 litres per minute based on the technology of on-board oxygen generation used in fighter planes.

Director DRDO Col. B.S. Rawat has appointed senior scientist Raghavendra Rao to coordinate the initiative.

MEIL is currently manufacturing a 30 metric tonnes per day Cryogenic Oxygen Liquefaction Plant and the same will be installed and commissioned at ITC Bhadrachalam by May 13. The cryogenic Oxygen will then be converted into usable liquid oxygen for medical purposes at the MEIL facilities.

Sources say that if required by the state governments, MEIL is ready to import 2 – 3 cryogenic oxygen tanks from its own unit in Spain which will help in the sourcing and movement of liquid oxygen.

Andhra Police traces missing oxygen tanker, saves 400 patients

2

The Andhra Pradesh Police tracked a missing oxygen tanker and ensured its delivery on time, thus saving the lives of nearly 400 patients on Friday.

A Vijayawada-bound tanker carrying 18 tonnes oxygen from Odisha went missing late Thursday. According to police, the oxygen supply was critical for nearly 400 patients undergoing treatment at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada. Hospital authorities were waiting for the tanker.

However, the tracking system failed and within minutes, Vijayawada Police Commissioner alerted all the Superintendents of Police who have jurisdiction on the Odisha-Vijayawada route.

All the alerted units of Andhra Pradesh Police swung into action and traced the missing tanker at a dhaba in Dharmavaram in East Godavari district.

Investigation revealed that the driver had stopped at the dhaba due to fatigue caused by the number of trips driven by him. Understanding the situation, orders were given by higher officials to the local police to ensure that an experienced home guard accompanies the driver throughout the journey and that the tanker is escorted to the destination using the ‘green channel’, as soon as possible.

Due to the proactive steps taken by the police force, the oxygen reached GGH Vijayawada on time and the patients could continue their fight against Covid-19.
