August 2023: A Lesson for Tollywood Producers

1

Tollywood delivered the biggest-ever pan-Indian hits and it was SS Rajamouli who erased the language barrier in Indian cinema. After the pandemic, the non-theatrical rights of Telugu films witnessed a huge rise. With these developments, several over-enthusiastic producers and filmmakers have offered exorbitant remunerations for the actors. The audience are not interested to watch routine and predictable content. As the original films are available on various OTT platforms, the audience are not showing interest in remakes unless they are well made matching the nativity of the respective films.

Bhola Shankar and Gaandeevadhari Arjuna released in August and the films failed to report minimum openings. This is just because of the poor content. The trailers failed to impress the audience and the makers are now staring at huge losses. The distributors are not showing interest in buying such films for huge prices and most of the buyers are ready to release them on a distribution basis thus leaving the risk to the producer.

AK Entertainments and Sree Venkateswara Cine Chitra tasted heavy losses with these films and they are a lesson for Telugu cinema. The producers must be extra cautious on the budgets and the remunerations of the actors. Every film of an actor is different and the non-theatrical, theatrical business entirely depends on the content, genre and the director, technicians involved. Directors like Meher Ramesh and Praveen Sattaru delivered duds in the past. This had a huge impact on the theatrical business of Bhola Shankar and Gaandeevadhari Arjuna.

Chiranjeevi and Varun Tej pocketed huge remunerations for the films. Even their respective remunerations weren’t recovered through the theatrical rights. August 2023 is the best lesson to say how the perspective of the audience has changed. Every producer has to be very cautious before signing a film. The final budgets, remunerations and others should be considered as the entire risk now falls on the producer himself.

Producer Anil Sunkara Clarifies Rumors Surrounding ‘Bhola Shankar’ and Chiru

0

In a recent tweet, Anil Sunkara, the producer of the movie “Bhola Shankar,” starring Chiranjeevi, addressed the swirling rumors that have been circulating regarding a supposed dispute between them. Sunkara vehemently expressed that such rumors not only bring unwarranted negativity but also harm the hard-earned reputation that has been built over time.

Sunkara emphasized that tarnishing one’s image, which has been meticulously cultivated through years of dedication, is an intolerable offense. He highlighted the adverse impact such baseless speculations can have, leading to pressure and anxiety among all those associated with the film. Setting the record straight, Sunkara clarified that the news of a disagreement between him and Chiranjeevi is entirely unfounded. He asserted that Chiranjeevi has remained a steadfast pillar of support throughout the journey of “Bhola Shankar.” The two share a strong and cordial relationship, unaffected by any alleged discord. Sunkara pleaded that the truth should not be overshadowed by animosity and unfounded claims. He acknowledged that while creating fake news might seem like casual amusement to some, its repercussions are far-reaching and impact everyone involved.

He expressed gratitude towards the industry’s well-wishers who have expressed concern over the situation. Sunkara conveyed his intentions to emerge from this episode even stronger, fueled by the blessings and support of those who believe in him. As the industry stands united against misinformation and fabricated stories, Sunkara’s tweet serves as a reminder that facts should prevail over hatred. Incidentally, this is the first tweet from his Twitter handle after the release of the Bhola Shankar movie.

Will Megastar compensate for Bhola Shankar Losses?

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent offering Bhola Shankar released on Friday and the film is heading towards the biggest flop in the actor’s career. Meher Ramesh made his comeback as a director after a decade and Megastar charged close to Rs 65 crores for Bhola Shankar. The film had no great theatrical deals and the film’s producer Anil Sunkara had to release the film on his own in most of the territories. Anil Sunkara is left in huge risk and he would be losing big through Bhola Shankar.

There are a lot of speculations about the financials and about the financial stress of Anil Sunkara. Chiranjeevi would be closely watching the box-office numbers and about the film’s recovery through the non-theatrical deals. With Anil Sunkara losing big, Chiranjeevi has to sacrifice some of his remuneration to recover the loss of the producer. We have to wait to see if Megastar steps out to save his producer of Bhola Shankar.

Jailer replaces Bhola Shankar

1

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Jailer is a smashing hit all over. The film had a grand release across the Telugu states but the film had to share the screens for Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar that released yesterday. After the poor response, Bhola Shankar opened on a disappointing note all over AP and Telangana today. The distributors are now busy increasing the screens for Jailer all over. Jailer opened on a stupendous note on its third day in Telangana and AP. The number of shows are expected to be doubled by evening today.

The film is expected to have a grand long weekend all over. Jailer is doing exceptional business in Tamil Nadu and USA. As per the trend, Jailer is expected to dominate and score big over Bhola Shankar by a huge margin across the Telugu states. Jailer is an actioner directed by Nelson. Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishna, Mohanlal, Shivarajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, Yogibabu and Tammannaah played the crucial roles.

Bhola Shankar has a poor opening Day – Day1 Worldwide Collections

1

Bhola Shankar has a very poor opening Worldwide as the film has collected a distributor share of 17.50 Cr (15.5 Cr excluding GST). The film has a very poor opening, to say the least. Starting from Noon Shows where the film has opened with low numbers it has dropped for Matinees. Evening & Second shows were driven by advances. Word of mouth is very poor for the film and will struggle to do even a 30cr share in its full run.

Hardcore Mega fans have a request for Chiranjeevi

Megastar Chiranjeevi’s latest offering Bhola Shankar is turning out to be a huge embarrassment for the actor and the whole team. Chiranjeevi is trolled and criticized like never before for the film. Even the hardcore Mega fans have opened their mouths and they are requesting Megastar not to attempt films like Bhola Shankar in the future. For the first time, a Megastar’s film was unsold in most of the regions and the producer had to release it on his own.

Mega fans who rush to watch the premieres showed no interest in Bhola Shankar. Several shows in towns and villages of AP and Telangana got canceled due to the lack of audience. Even the day numbers from Telugu states to overseas are quite low which indicates that Bhola Shankar was rejected even before the film’s release. The trolls on director Meher Ramesh are just countless and he is criticized to the core.

When actors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth are attempting films that suit their age, Chiranjeevi is focused on commercial films that are filled with romance and action. This is opposed by the hardcore fans of Chiranjeevi. Several hardcore fans of Megastar took to social media and requested him not to attempt such films in the future. They call it an insult to his achievements. They also reminded him about his domination in Indian cinema because of the films he has done over the past three decades.

Most of the Mega fans also used the word ‘Bhajana Batch’. They say that a section of people are around Megastar and are focused on elevating him and praising his work despite outright rejection. The interviews of Bhola Shankar are a pure example for it. Even the pre-release event was focused on heaping praises on Megastar instead of talking about Bhola Shankar. Some of his fans requested Chiranjeevi to change his costumer and the choreographer for his upcoming projects.

There is also a strong talk that Chiranjeevi has been demanding a fat paycheque which is turning out to be a stress for the makers, if the films at the box-office. Anil Sunkara, the producer of Bhola Shankar would be losing big as the film is heading for a huge disaster. We have to wait to see if Megastar cuts down his remuneration to save his Bhola Shankar producer and hears the requests of his fans to make his comeback in the near future.

Chiranjeevi’s Dilemma Deepens with Bhola Shankar’s Mixed Reception

1

The release of Bhola Shankar today has ushered in a wave of mixed-to-negative feedback, adding another layer of uncertainty for megastar Chiranjeevi.

https://www.telugu360.com/te/bhola-shankar-movie-review/

After making a triumphant comeback with Valtheru Veerayya, Chiranjeevi now finds himself grappling with confusion due to his recent endeavor, Bhola Shankar. Chiranjeevi’s re-entry into movies, following his departure from the political scene, was marked by the cautious selection of “Khaidi Number 150,” a safe commercial project that proved successful. However, his experimentation with Sairaa movie didn’t yield the desired results. Subsequently, Koratala Siva’s Acharya, which deviated from Chiranjeevi’s usual style of entertainment and even lacked a prominent female lead, emerged as one of the major setbacks in his career. Yet, Valtheru Veerayya, a conventional film with a predictable plotline, struck a chord with the audience and reaffirmed that they were eager for Chiranjeevi to deliver the tried-and-true masala entertainers.

However, the release of Bhola Shankar has seemingly disrupted Chiranjeevi’s calculations, throwing him into uncertainty once again. Industry analysts suggest that this movie might have compounded his dilemma regarding the scripts he should consider for future projects.

While audiences aren’t averse to formulaic films as long as they provide entertainment, it’s worth noting that movies with innovative narratives tend to leave a more lasting impact. Chiranjeevi’s choice of projects post-Bhola Shankar will undoubtedly be under scrutiny, as fans and critics await his next move.

Bhola Shankar Movie Review : Boring Shankar !

Bhola Shankar Movie Review

Bhola Shankar Movie Review

Telugu360 Rating: 2/5

With all the films of neighboring languages available on OTT platforms, there are debates about remakes. Megastar Chiranjeevi says that there is nothing wrong in remaking a film if it has impressive content. After remaking Kaththi and Lucifer, Megastar is back with the remake of Vedhalam. The film is directed by Meher Ramesh and the film released today. Here is the review of Bhola Shankar:

Story:

Bhola Shankar alias Shankar (Chiranjeevi) relocates to Kolkata from Hyderabad for the education of his sister Maha (Keerthy Suresh). Shankar works as a taxi driver when his sister attends college. Alex (Tarun Arora) is a gangster who leads a team that is into women trafficking. The cops are on a hunt for Alex and his gang. Shankar traces some of the gang members of Alex and he informs the cops. Alex and his gang target Shankar after the incident. Soon, Shankar kills some of the gang members and he reveals that he is in Kolkata to assassinate the gang of Alex. The rest of Bhola Shankar is all about the real story of Shankar and his rivalry with the gang of Alex.

Analysis :
Vedhalam film released eight years ago and it was remade by the team of Bhola Shankar. The narration is completely outdated and Bhola Shankar sounds like a film that released two decades ago. The film is a routine and predictable commercial entertainer that goes on a regular template. The entertainment throughout the first half is irritating. The episodes of Vennela Kishore reminds us of the Jabardasth comedy.

The entire track of Tammannaah is useless and it makes no sense. Keerthy Suresh has nothing much to do in the first half of Bhola Shankar. Chiranjeevi is seen throughout the first half but there is no magic in his role. Meher Ramesh took the film to Kolkata but misses the nativity. The first half of Bhola Shankar is a complete disappointment.

The second half introduces the role of Bhola and his role is slightly better than Kolkata Shankar. Megastar tried hard to imitate Pawan Kalyan and his mannerisms. Chiranjeevi’s Kushi scene with Sreemukhi will trigger trolls and is a huge disappointment. Sreemukhi’s role is poorly designed. Bhola Shankar is the story of his sister but the core emotion looks pale and lacks seriousness. The real story gets completed by the pre-climax scenes and the climax portions are dragged.

Performances:

Chiranjeevi is a great entertainer and he proved this with his roles. There is nothing great or exciting in the role of Bhola Shankar. Chiranjeevi does it in his style but it doesn’t connect to the audience because of the poor writing. Chiranjeevi looked energetic on screen. Keerthy Suresh did a decent job in the assigned role. Sushanth has nothing much interesting. Anchor Rashmi danced with Megastar in a song. The roles of Tamannaah and Sreemukhi are completely wasted. Getup Sreenu, Lobo, Hyper Adhi, Bithiri Sathi, Venu and others have nothing much to do.

The songs composed by Mahati Swara Sagar are a huge disappointment. Except Bhola Mania, all the other songs disappoint the audience. The background score by Mahati Swara Sagar is equally subpar. The cinematography work looks good. The dialogues of Bhola Shankar are poorly written. Meher Ramesh is returning back to direction after a decade and his work remains outdated. His routine making, poor writing makes Bhola Shankar an outdated film.

Verdict:

Bhola Shankar is a cliched and outdated film. Second half is slightly better than the very bad first half. Meher Ramesh delivers even worse than the low expectations. Overall, a forgettable film for all involved.

Gharana Mogudu, Gang Leader, Bholaa Shankar: Meher

1

Team Bholaa Shankar has been promoting the movie aggressively, as the movie is set for release this week. The film starring megastar Chiranjeevi was directed by Meher Ramesh and it also features Keerthy Suresh, Tamannaah Bhatia and Sushanth.

Meher Ramesh says Bholaa Shankar will have elements for all sections of audiences. “Brother-sister sentiment is the major highlight of the movie, though it will have action and drama. Though it is a remake, we made sufficient changes to suit the image of Chiranjeevi. It used to be like a picnic, as Annayya used to be on friendly terms with everyone.”

The director says there is Chiranjeevi mark entertainment throughout the movie. “Bholaa Shankar will be in the commercial meter of Rowdy Alludu, Gharana Mogudu and Gang Leader. It will have all the elements one would expect in a Chiranjeevi starrer. Fans will enjoy Pawan Kalyan’s mannerisms imitated by Chiranjeevi.”

The movie is up for release on August 11th.

Jailer heat on Bhola Shankar

1

Superstar Rajinikanth will test his luck with Jailer and the film is hitting the screens during the Independence Day weekend. Jailer trailer caught everyone’s attention. His fans are pretty confident that Jailer would mark a perfect comeback for Superstar. The pre-release sales for Jailer are exceptional all over. The film is expected to open with a bang in Tamil Nadu, Overseas and in the Telugu states.

All the shows are fast filling or sold out. The early predictions say that Jailer would impact Megastar Chiranjeevi’s Bhola Shankar. If the word of mouth is positive for Jailer, the film will give a tough competition for Bhola Shankar across the Telugu states. The pre-release sales of Jailer across Telugu states are very impressive. Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God and Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 are the other films hitting the screens during the same weekend.

Jailer is an action-packed entertainer directed by Nelson. Tamannaah played the heroine in Jailer.
